You're listening to The Christian Post Daily Podcast. Today is, Wednesday, July 23. Sadie Schreiner, an athlete identifying as female, is suing Princeton University and related parties after being removed from a May track meet. Seeking unspecified damages, Schreiner's lawsuit filed with attorney Susan Cirilli in New Jersey Superior Court accuses Princeton and race-timing officials of "knowingly and maliciously" discriminating against Schreiner based on gender identity. Despite signing up for the 200-meter race at the Larry Ellis Invitational, Schreiner, a former Division III athlete, was informed minutes before the event that she couldn't compete. The lawsuit claims this exclusion caused a "humiliating, dehumanizing and dignity-stripping ordeal." This case arises amid ongoing national debates on transgender athletes in sports, as highlighted by the NCAA's recent policy changes and the U.S. Supreme Court's upcoming hearings on related state laws. In a recent development in the West Bank, U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee, along with Palestinian Mayor Suleiman Khourieh, toured the historic Church of St. George in Taybeh. Reports of arson had sparked outrage, with Huckabee condemning the act as "sacrilege." However, the Israel Police clarified the church was undamaged, with the fire confined to a nearby area. Huckabee stated he hadn't attributed the fire to any group, emphasizing the need for due process. The Press Service of Israel (TPS-IL) contradicted claims that settlers started the fire, revealing evidence of Jewish settlers aiding firefighting efforts. They highlighted inconsistencies in the accusations, with some alleging settler involvement while others claimed locals set fires to hinder grazing. The ongoing investigation seeks to clarify these conflicting narratives. On the July 18 episode of the "Joe Rogan Experience," Texas State Representative James Talarico, who is also pursuing a career as a Baptist preacher, made headlines with his bold stance on Christianity and social issues. Speaking against Texas' new law mandating Ten Commandments lessons in schools, he argued such measures echoed Christian nationalism. He challenged traditional beliefs by suggesting true Christian love extends to figures like Judas, citing Dorothy Day: "You really only love God as much as you love the person you love the least." On abortion, Talarico invoked the biblical account of the Annunciation, emphasizing that Mary's consent reflects women's bodily autonomy. He contended, “Creation has to be done with consent.” Talarico also stated God’s incarnation isn’t exclusive to Jesus but extends to all, supporting broader interpretations of Christian teachings on social issues. With aspirations possibly aimed at a U.S. Senate bid, Talarico continues to push for complex conversations on faith and policy. U.S. Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll issued an apology amidst controversy over Army training materials classifying pro-life organizations as terrorists. Driscoll’s apology came as an investigation revealed this mischaracterization was not isolated. He emphasized, "This mischaracterization was not only inaccurate but also deeply inappropriate," and pledged to prevent future occurrences. The apology was in response to the American Center for Law and Justice, which exposed longstanding issues, highlighting systemic problems dating back to 2011. ACLJ Executive Director Jordan Sekulow expressed relief that these flaws are finally being addressed. In a significant policy shift, Children's National Hospital in Washington, D.C. has announced it will cease prescribing puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones to minors in its Gender Development Program, citing "escalating legal and regulatory risks." This decision aligns with the ongoing efforts of the Trump administration to halt "sex trait modifications" for minors, especially in institutions accepting Medicaid and Medicare, as reported by National Review. President Donald Trump's January executive order explicitly directed the cessation of taxpayer-funded gender transition procedures on minors, labeling them as "destructive and life-altering." The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has echoed these concerns with a detailed report citing potential long-term health risks. This position is further supported by the Cass Review, which found insufficient evidence on the long-term efficacy of such interventions. In a developing controversy, newly released documents under the Freedom of Information Act reveal communication between the Biden White House and the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) before a 2021 memo labeled outspoken parents at school board meetings as "domestic terrorists." America First Legal (AFL), a conservative group, publicized emails from DOJ lawyers linked to the National School Boards Association's (NSBA) letter requesting federal intervention against what they described as increasing threats against school officials. Former Attorney General Merrick Garland issued a directive to involve federal law enforcement, citing a spike in threats, drawing criticism for infringing on parents' rights. AFL, disputing Garland’s claim of DOJ independence from the White House, argues this involvement was politically motivated, particularly targeting the Virginia gubernatorial election. Despite concerns from DOJ attorneys about federal overreach, Sparkle Sooknanan pushed the directive forward, highlighting ongoing tensions between federal authorities and community voices. Christian artist Forrest Frank recently turned a serious skateboarding injury into an inspiring viral hit. After fracturing his L3 and L4 vertebrae, Frank shared that he wrote a faith-driven song while confined to his bed. The song expresses resilience through lyrics like, "God’s got my back/ Even when I fall or get attacked," emphasizing his reliance on divine support. His song quickly gained popularity, with fellow artists like Lecrae and Colton Dixon praising it. Despite his setback, Frank stays optimistic, attributing the song’s success to divine intervention. Known for his faith-inspired music, Frank's career has soared with hits and collaborations with prominent Christian artists. At the GMA Dove Awards, he was named New Artist of the Year, crediting his success to his commitment to glorifying Jesus, stating, "Everything I do is for the Lord."
