Episode description

Welcome to our Friday episode, where we take a deep dive into recent stats from major matches in the shooting competition world. We compare participation numbers from 2023 and early 2024 across several categories, including CO, LO, Open, PCC, Limited Production, Single Stack, Revolver, and Limited 10.

Intriguingly, we found a significant drop in CO participation by about 12%. However, Limited Optics has soared from just over 7% to nearly 22%—a whopping 287% increase. These two combined now make up more than half of all major match competitors. We also note a rise in PCC, albeit a modest one, from 11.3% to 14.6%. Meanwhile, participation in more traditional divisions like Open and Limited show a drop of 31% and 39% respectively.

We observe small changes in Participation in Production and Limited Optics divisions whilst Regretfully, Single Stack saw a significant drop from 272 to 163, a 40% decrease and the Revolver division dipped by 26%. A significant find was that participation in Limited 10 dropped by 29%, making us pose a strong suggestion of its dissolution.

As a disclaimer, remember that our analysis is based on only five major matches, so take these preliminary figures with a grain of salt. While the trends here give us an interesting glimpse at the shifting landscape, we'll continue to monitor participation figures throughout the year. Stay tuned for more episodes every three days for the following weeks, where we'll continue sharing insights from the shooting competition world. Have a great weekend and we look forward to catching up next week.

Analysis of Participation Numbers in Various Shooting Divisions

Welcome to Friday, everybody. So I went back and I looked at the final numbers of 2023 for participation in CO, LO, Open, PCC, Limited Production, Single Stack, Revolver, and Limited 10. Now, there's only been five major matches this year, 2024, including the South Carolina sectional. It's going on as we speak, or as I speak. So I wanted to take the little bit of numbers that we have so far and compare them to the end of year numbers from 2023.

And this is what I have found. CO has dropped about 12%. So it's gone from 39 and a half to about 35%. Limited optics has jumped significantly. And maybe it's the off season where people have taken the time to get limited optics guns and work on them and do some things.

Significant Increase in Limited Optics Division

It went from 7.62%. Isn't that a great number? 762, kind of like 308, which we just passed. We just had 308 day a couple of weeks ago. And it is now 21.87. So basically 22%. That's a 287% increase. So if you take carry optics and limited optics together, we're talking 56, 57% of all major match competitors. Again, the caveat here is the simple fact that there's only five major matches that we're using here.

The Florida State, the Gulf Coast, Shooting International Open, Miami Open, and now the South Carolina section. So take that with a grain of salt. Some of these numbers will change.

Shifts in Participation Rates Across Different Divisions

Range what to me is just as surprising as how much limited optics has jumped is how much open dropped it went from 20.52 to 14.16 so about a 31 percent drop i didn't see that much of a drop coming we'll have to see as i follow this trend see where it actually goes pcc has actually gone on up a little bit and went from 11.3 to 14.6, which is about 129% increase. So I think here. PCC has been right around 12%, so I wouldn't be surprised if this trended back

a little bit, maybe down to 13%, but we'll see. Maybe it holds steady. Limited has dropped from nearly 11% down to almost 7%, a little bit less. It's a 39% decrease. decrease and that might be people just slapping an optic on their limited gun i don't know, production went from 5.88 to 5.08 not a whole lot in terms of numbers about a 14 decrease i mean there isn't much room for it to move because the number is so small to begin with single stack went from 272 to 163. That is a 40% decrease.

Revolver, 0.99 to 0.73, about a 26% decrease. Limited optics went from 0.51 to 0.36. That's another 29% decrease. But look, I've said it, and I'll keep saying it. Limited 10 needs to go away. There's literally no need for that division.

Vision create limited optics whatever you're going to do with that however you're going to separate limited optics and carry optics and just dissolve limited 10 let it go away there's literally no reason for it so that's what we have more episodes coming out again every three days for a few more weeks and i hope everyone has a great weekend we'll see you next week so.
