Episode description

Training advice from vets can often be a controversial topic of heated discussions within the training community. Some vets have been known to give great advice where others have made outrageous claims. Sounds like any other industry really, However, this is the industry that we're all in as trainers. We rely on our vets to help us through health issues of all variations throughout the life of our pets. Our trusted vets are incredible people that are highly skilled and talented in their field. That field however, often does not include training. Where some vets have gone on to do behaviour and training as an additional skill and can validate their advice, most can not and they shouldn't. We should have a close and symbiotic relationship with each other and refer to the appropriate profession based on the requirements. While writing this, it is important to note that the veterinarian profession has some of the highest suicide rates out there. Their jobs are highly stressful with some of the highest rates of abuse in any profession. If you have a great vet, promote them and also let them know you appreciate them. it's nice to know you're loved and appreciated.
