On this episode, we have David de Rosiers with us. He is the publisher of Real Clear Politics, a great man. Going to talk to us a bit about censorship in politics and also the samas Dot Prize gala at the Breakers in Palm Beach, So I'm actually gonna go to. A bunch of my friends will be there.
We'll talk about this big event why it is so important in the era we live in. David, first, tell us about samas dot and welcome.
Thanks for having me Buck. Samas Dot is Russian for underground publishing. You know, sadly, we're going to do this on the eve of the State of the Union. This is going to be our own State of the Union where we really think that, you know, we're moving in a direction that's bad with regards to one of our founding cornerstones of the way we should conduct our lives
in our politics, the First Amendment. And you know, we really think that, you know, the First Amendment is not trending well and we want to praise those uh, you know, intrepid souls that stand up for the rest of us so we can remain free.
What is samas don.
As I said, it's it's Russian for underground publishing. You know, it was the give me.
The history, Give me the history a little bit, tell me a little bit about it.
Yeah, it was, uh, you know the reason you know, the Gulag Archipelago souls and Eatson, the lie killer that was that book had to be smuggled into their own countries. So the greatest dissident thinkers that we have come to know that really challenged the lie that was Soviet communism. And you know, and even in any type of regime that is suffering from material of the mind.
I mean, you can see Vakloff hovel.
You know it's you had to get under you know, you went underground to get above ground. And what we see is happening in our own country sadly something you know, a country that's been committed to the First Amendment for as long as I've known in my lifetime, has made a dangerous turn away from it. And you know, we want to call attention to that turn. Show people the trajectory of where we're going. If we don't stand up to it now, it's not going to get better, it's
going to get worse. And what we want to do on Thursday, March seventh is to highlight, you know, three intrepid people that we think kind of show what a real clear presentation of you know, First Amendment courages.
Why do you think it is that in this era of increasing censorship, And I think it's obvious when you look at the social media companies the different policies that they have, that the censorship is highly part is in and very active. Journalists aren't speaking out in general. I
know there are exceptions. You're honoring some of the exceptions at your gallo, but journalists aren't speaking out and saying, yeah, the First Amendment, irrespective of politics, is really hortant for us, and we need to defend free speech, even if it's the free speech that a lot of people don't want to hear.
Yeah, there was an Atlantic study that came out a while ago that just really kind of captured our, I think our modern problem. That's the higher level of education that you have, the less tolerant you are of other views, and then when you take that and you put it into a university system that just by itself self selects. We've raised the generation of people that really, their policy
towards the First Amendment is anti American. It seems uncharacteristically out of the American mainstream where I think it's forty percent of millennials, you know, against free speech. And if you want to just go give a contrast to the people who actually fought communists, who fought fascism, you know, you know, they came back and you know, and their attitudes going to their dying grave.
Is thirteen percent.
So there's been a movement in the American mind and American culture and the American establishment where to your point, it's like the fourth estate really is is you know, does not have a commitment to First Amendment liberty, maybe for them, but not for the I would describe it as and it's a dangerous it's a dangerous trend. And you know, it's it's awful when you know, the oldest newspaper in America, the New York Post, can actually be
shut down on Twitter. And it's too it's not to it's a it was a combination of silence and applause and silence is a problem, but the applause if it was problematic as well.
Yeah, as we know, not only is their censorship, but their censorship based on the premise that something is disinformation because it is false, and the people pushing that as the basis for the censorship don't seem the least bit self aware, don't seem to care at all when it comes out that what they said is false is actually true one hundred Biden laptop the New York Post being one of the best examples of this or clearest examples of this.
The three folks that we've kind of singled out to get these awards, I think capture that. So we have doctor j. Boticharia. You know, so he was the guy who stood up to Fauci and said, hey, the scientific method, can we stand a crisis? And everything that his ex experiences, you know, in terms of even you know, in terms of the science, was that you know, where we were going was the wrong way. He was treated very poorly.
He was treated very poorly, not just by the press, not just by the politicians, but by his own profession. And lo and behold, what do we see history of vindicated him? Like he was the one that was on the right side. You know, he was put up as like a Monkish superstition, and then all of a sudden it turns out that Fauci was the pope, and you know, doctor j he was Galileo.
As we know how that turned out turned out.
And the same go yeah, and the same goes for the other two that we picked. We you know, getting to the example that I brought up both the New York Post and Miranda Divine. You know, Miranda is our other recipient. And you know, in my response there is if someone gave you that laptom, you know, if you didn't accept that and jump into it with the responsibility that comes with being a representative of the Fourth Amendment, you'd be a hack. And the same for Matt to
hebe the other gentleman who was receiving it. It's that, you know, if you get invited into Elon's uh you know twitter x. Now, if you get an invitation there and you get to look behind the veil, you see this alphabet soup of really you know, you know, violations of the First Amendment.
You know, the government's not supposed to.
Do it, regardless of whether a private company wants them to do it.
They're not allowed to do that.
And you know, I think you see in the journalists that we picked, the differences between them are of degree and not kind, which is what a healthy difference within journalism should be. You know, Matt and Miranda to share, you know, share profession and ethics and a sense of fearless reporting. And sadly, you know that type of reporting is being attacked at scale.
We'll get back into where this all goes, especially in the era of AI here in just a second. But first off, you know, I hear that some people are still on the fence about owning gold and silver, and that just doesn't make sense to me. Have we already forgotten about regional bank closures, inflation, global instability, and the potential for major catastrophe on the world stage that will affect the value of the US dollar. what should they do? What should we do about the fact that now censorship is Yes, it's top down, it's government and private sector colluding. That there's all. But it's also increasingly mechanized. Right, it's not even necessarily a person. It's a system that an algorithm that decides you're not allowed to talk about something like what's the way forward.
I think that conservatives have to wake up to the to really how this is being exercised against them. I mean, the real surprise for us is that you know, for your listeners who know Real Clear Politics. I mean, if you know us, you know that we show both sides, and you know, so we try to do our best to give an accounting of the news, right and it's always you know, we do our best to make it comparative.
You know.
So you have two folks from you know, from prestigious institutions saying the completely opposite thing about the same reality. Let the reader decide. We found out in February of last year, through some good report from Gabe Kaminski, that what happened was that there was the state, our own State Department was part of a you know, an international funding group that gave money to companies whose purpose was to kind of really censor American uh you know, viewpoint diversity.
And the way that they did it was by coming up with a standard, you know, in ranking that these these groups, News Guard being an American example of it, uh GI, you know being another from a Bridge company. Global Disinformation Index is what it stands for. And Real Clear Politics found itself on a top ten list of disinformation and the purpose of this was to really have censorship through advertise advertising starvation. So if you know, if
you have a media mind. You know, if you have a flavor of the media, if you like real clear, if you like your show, you like any of the things that you take for granted, out there is existing. They are behind the scenes being browned out through advertising starvation. So I think that this is you know, first of all, it's illegal for the you know, for own government to do this. I think these cut out these companies that are going out and doing this, like NewsGuard and GDI
are bad. Uh. You know, Soros has an effort called check my Ads that if you don't follow this advice, if you don't you know, you know, feed on the diet that they want for media advertising. They go after the companies that are you know, in fall in it.
There is uh.
I mean, there is probably sixty public universities and private universities that are engaged in this. It's being funded by philanthropy. It's trickling down to everybody's schools. I mean, if you if you really want a cartographer of this kind of you know, censorship industrial complex. Uh, there's a gentleman, Mike Ben's out there. You put in bends, you'll let you'll get you'll get a quick education to what's happening. But you know, let me just first state it's that real clear.
Was the only kind of centrist media independent outlet on a list, But the nine other people that we were keeping company with, they were all conservatives.
Well I want I want to get to that actually and how And by the way, move a little to your left, David, because you keep on believing get there you go. You keep on disappearing from our video feed entirely because you're so passionate about the First Amendment and freedom of speech that you're you're out of the frame anyway. One thing I think is very important for everyone to recognize the the media used to play this game like
CNN was supposed to be center. It wasn't actually center, but the game was we could have a place that has this pretense of oh we hear from both sides. Really was I mean I used to work there, so I know conservatives get punched in the face and ridiculed,
but we have them on a little bit. And now what we see is if you actually try to be the center, that's not allowed, right because they got used to a rigged game where oh yeah, we're just journalists, we're neutral, we just provide people with no, that's unacceptable
to them. And if someone actually tries to do that, and you're telling me that at real clear, part of your mission is take the right, take the left, both points of view, they will attack that too because they don't want that to be out there, and they also don't want to be held against that standard. They want the rigged game, they want the silencing.
Oh it's you know, it really is clear that this viewpoint diversity, which is exactly what people get on our page, that is a problem. So there's a new form of speech out there. I mean, you could call it safe speech, you could call it worll speech, but it uses filters like disinformation, misinformation, and malinformation to give something out there that is quite frankly less and ideologically lopsided and partisan. I mean, so we're on the blacklist. It's you know,
real clear, and nine conservative entities. You look at the white list, it's nine liberal entities. In the Wall Street Journal. You know, if you go back twenty years, you know, the Wall Street Journal was the only game in town.
Now that's no longer the case. And the Wall Street Journal's behind a paywall, so unless you pay, you don't see, right, But they want to get to a world where it's nine to one liberal progressive to conservative, and the only conservative voice that's allowed to get any type of money is the Wall Street Journal that's behind a paywall. You know, that's the time of I mean mono media that I
think is going out there. And I think that the folks out there, the conservatives who who like coming to our site because they get to see both sides, you're going to realize they're coming after us in order to really fracture and break up what we curate every day. I've mean, I would like to think at our best that we present you know, the winning, you know, winning ascendant face of an ascendant democratic, Republican, liberal, progressive, conservative viewpoints.
So we're just.
Capturing what we see to be out there. But it's very clear that people don't like to see two sides to anything. That there is an approved, approved subject matter, there are approved outlets. And you know, my company is being undermined because I you know, in my editors and the folks that work with us, they believe in you viewpoint diversity, and that's under attack.
And that's what we're going to be celebrating on March seventh. Well, we'll heke it's still available.

We live in a society where we actually get more of what we praise, and I think we have to praise the First Amendment, that people have the courage for it.

I think what we want to do is start something this week, stand it up, and hopefully over time, not only will we reward and praise the people who keep us free, we might actually not actually have to go underground and live in a Samostat world.
