Episode description

Since the riots broke out in America, small groups of Australian protestors have been raising the uncomfortable question: do we face similar problems here?

Today we find out how Indigenous people in Australia are reacting to what’s happening, and what we can learn from it to help solve our problems here.

Joining us is Professor Marcia Langton AM is one of Australia’s most outspoken Indigenous voices, she’s a professor who’s been writing and researching about indigenous deaths in custody for over 30 years. We’re also joined by Jack Manning Bancroft, a young indigenous man devoting his life to giving young Indigenous kids a leg up in life.

In today's headlines:

  • Police officer investigated over video kicking Indigenous teen
  • U.S wrap:

  • Protesters gather in Sydney for Black Lives Matter rally

In today's Briefing we ask: How are the scenes in the US being viewed in Australia? How should leaders respond in this situation? How should everyday people respond in this situation? How should we focus our efforts for lasting positive change? How can we best foreground Indigenous voices when tackling these issues?
