Imagine you could control digital devices using just the power of thought. Although it’s a little more complex than that, an implantable brain-computer interface is essentially trying to do just that. 

There have been some promising trials in New York where, in a world-first, a person who is severely paralysed was implanted with this new brain-computer technology. Now 20 patients in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Gold Coast are getting onboard.

Professor Nicholas Opie is a biomedical engineer and he’s also the co-founder of this new technology the Stentrode implant
