Mississippi State has twelve SEC games left. The Bulldogs need to win at least six of those contests to give themselves a realistic chance of making an NCAA regional. Looking at the numbers, State will have to play their best baseball this weekend to have any hope of sweeping those three games. Just winning the season will simply be the bare minimum. Ole Miss won the Governor's game for the first time since 2015 last evening. It was an important win for them. It would have been an important win for State had that been able to pull it off. Mississippi State blasted Jackson State 17-2. The Bulldogs head for Oxford this week for a big three-game series with the rival Rebs. Mississippi State simply had to get a win on Thursday and they did. It took a pair of runs in the bottom of the 9th to do it, but State came through. The Bulldogs had control of the game during the early innings, but had a tough inning that allowed the Tigers to take a 5-3 lead. State did not quit and found a way to win the end. Mississippi State had a winning weekend on the baseball diamond. The Bulldogs needed three wins and got three wins. Former Louisville assistant coach Sam Purcell accepted the Mississippi State women's basketball head coaching position.
