Episode description

Voices from the Square, Part 27 with Elia Haber for The Beirut Banyan, bringing conversations directly from Martyrs Square. Elia speaks to Soumar Sariedeen, an events planner working in Lebanon and the Gulf. Soumar helped create the 'Thawra Untha' statue currently in Martyrs Square, made out of plastic waste and tin cans. Soumar vents his frustrations at previous pleas with the Municipality to mandate recycling, and his own 'up-cyle' ideas that were deemed too costly. He shares his hopes for a technocratic government, and the central role of women in his life, the revolution and Lebanon.
