For this week's weekly challenge .
If you're in the United States , I am encouraging you to get all of your work done by tomorrow night , because we have Thanksgiving this week and so we have a busy bar night Wednesday , followed by family and friends time on Thursday , and so I would strongly encourage you to get all your admin work done today and tomorrow All your admin work done today and
tomorrow . And for those of you outside the United States and inside the United States , I encourage you to take time this week to meet with each and every one of your employees individually and to tell them what you're thankful for about them . Show gratitude for what they do .
Hello and welcome to the Bar Business Podcast , where we help bar owners increase profits , attract loyal guests and simplify operations so you can avoid burnout and finally enjoy your life outside of your bar . I'm your host , chris Schneider , the Bar Business Coach .
Every Monday , we do a short episode to give bar owners a challenge for the week one simple project that shouldn't take more than an hour that can improve your bar and your profitability . That shouldn't take more than an hour that can improve your bar and your profitability . So , as I mentioned , the challenge for this week is to finish all your admin tasks .
If you're in the United States by tomorrow night , fram those hours in . It's going to be difficult to get all that work that normally gets spread out over a week done in two days , but it's important to do that so that you can enjoy Thanksgiving , you know , with your family , with your staff , whomever you're spending Thursday with .
Also , it's important because tomorrow , wednesday , in the United States is one of our bigger bar nights of the year , so try to get that admin work done the next two days . But , more importantly than that , the challenge for this week is to show appreciation for everyone on your staff . And this is true for everyone here , right ?
Because whether you're in the United States and we have Thanksgiving this week , or you're outside the United States , everyone is moving towards the holiday season . And when we get around Christmas and that time of year , it's very important that we build up our staff a little bit .
And it's important because , as we move through the next month or so , we're going to have a lot of holiday parties , especially in your neighborhood style bars . You're going to have a lot of holiday parties that don't call ahead , so you're going to have a lot of times when your staff is stressed and maybe a little bit overextended .
Also , you want to develop your culture .
So when we tell our staff how grateful we are for them , how much we appreciate them , that lays that emotional and cultural groundwork to make sure we execute really well over the course of the next month , when we tend to go through periods of very slow , followed by crazy days of multiple parties , people dropping and we don't know about .
There's a lot of variables around the holidays that kind of get thrown off , and so it's really important to recognize your staff is stressed . They also have family stuff they have to fit in . Over the next month they have , you know , more shopping to do . They have to spend money on gifts and things for their family .
So , because your staff is stressed , we want to calm them down and we want to make sure they feel appreciated . So there are two goals related to this week's weekly challenge .
One is to allow yourself time if you're in the United States , for a busy night on Wednesday and family and friends on Thursday , and you do that by getting everything done today and tomorrow . The other goal is to build morale by telling your team how grateful you are for them , and so to accomplish this . We just have three pretty simple action steps .
Finish all your admin tasks today and tomorrow . Everything you would normally do in the week , write it all down . Get it all done the next few days . Yes , you might be working hard today and tomorrow . Everything you would normally do in the week , write it all down . Get it all done the next few days .
Yes , you might be working hard today and tomorrow , but you'll make up for it by having additional time at the end of the week , and especially for Thanksgiving , to spend with your family and not have to worry about Spend Wednesday , if you're in the US , prepping for Wednesday evening Because , like I said , we all know Wednesday evening before Thanksgiving tends to
be a pretty busy bar night . So make sure you're ready to go and everything is set up for that , that your staff is set up for success . And because all your admin work is done Tuesday , you can spend time Wednesday actually making sure they're prepped , making sure you're over prepped .
Now , when I say over prepped , try to avoid cutting way too many limes and lemons . You don't want spoilage in case you're not quite as busy as you anticipate , but make sure the bottles are there , make sure cases are there , make sure everything is set up for your folks to be successful .
And then our final action step is to show your staff how grateful you are for their hard work and dedication , and what I mean by that is I want you to individually pull aside every member of your team in the next week , shake their hand and thank them for their hard work .
Now , we all know some of your employees are really good , some of them probably aren't , and so , even those employees that aren't good , I don't want you to coach them . I don't want you to tell them hey , we have things to work on . Still , don't do anything like that .
Follow the old rule from Bambi If you don't have anything nice to say , don't say anything at all , which normally I'm all about . Let's confront people , let's talk honestly and deal with things in a straightforward manner . However , this week don't focus on the negative , don't talk about the negative .
Go up , shake their hand , tell them you're grateful for them being on your team , tell them how much you appreciate them , how much you trust them , how much you support them , because that is laying that cultural , emotional , psychological groundwork that your team needs to push through the holidays .
Deal with all the parties , deal with all the stress both at the job and outside of the job , and really make sure you have the foundation to have a killer December . That's going to wrap us up for today . To get even more out of our weekly challenge , make sure you join the Bar Business Nation Facebook group . There's a link in the show notes .
I make a thread there every week so we can share our challenges and successes and improve our bars together . Until next time , have a great day and we will talk again later .
