Hold up, hold up, and it's not produced by me O C. T. And I'm with the homies and I am your favorite is so low. We sounded just like it. We sounded just like it. He sounded just like it. I can say that. Okay, I will judge how you guys. Um week has gone by. It's like the days are mixed together. I don't even know. Wait, do you have a new hairstyle? Yeah, you know what I'm saying. The quarantine braids had to come up. Shout out. I'm tired
of doing my hair. I am right behind you because these little dusty corn rolls right here they had a goal. I got a haircut. I actually got my first haircut a couple of days ago, trimmed up. It was cool, just a little line up, you know. Um my hair was growing crazy, crazy crazy. And he didn't have a barber shop. No, my barber comes to me. I didn't even say it like that. Wait wait, yes he came with a mask. Meanwhile, my my nail technician is like, no, bitch, no,
you either coming to us or not. Hey, yo, we got a special guest joining us today. Who we got today? Rory ms Shamiya Morton. Um I first met her. She was a She was one of the main people at the Atlanta Hawks. She was not just a cheerleader, but she was doing a lot of hosting on the ground, on the court side, and she was doing a lot of stuff like that. Then all of a sudden I saw her. I heard her doing radio at V one
O three. Then all of a sudden, I heard her doing the Warning show at Streets Now four or five. I actually did a couple of morning shows with her, so we're gonna be talking to her. Then I see her on TV on Atlanta Housewives, and um, she has had a got a baby, she's married, she got a lot going on. So we're gonna have her come in and uh co host with us today. I love it. You're listening to The Lord Show. Shama Morton is joining us right now, the Ball and lest Show. How's it going, man, Man,
it's going, it's going. I'm just happy to be COVID free in twenties one. So I'm gonna list a couple of things that I've witnessed you do. I first saw you cheerleading on the Atlanta Hawks, but you weren't just a cheerleader. You were on the sidelines doing reporting. Yeah, I actually landed into that after the fact, you know, being at the right place at the right time deal. I started out here, and um, actually weird. People don't realize. I started with the Hawks back in two thousands three.
I'm not trying to age myself, but back in two thousands there was my rookie season cheer for them. I left them and went to the Falcons, where I did like five six seasons. Then I was like, I want to do some broadcast stuff, you know, I wanna because I had studied at Morris Brown broadcast durnalism. So I was like, I'm gonna do like in game stuff. I like football, like people, you know. So I've been doing some radio stuff for d B with Ryan and Ryan
was the plug. One day the current the existing host didn't show up. She was, I guess called in l A and he was like you ready. I was like already, and they gave me the script and I killed that ship and they were like, okay, you don't let you be the feeling. Then when she's not available, you can just jump in and do it. And from there, you know, just it happened. So, I mean, it's crazy to think back now because people text me and the d M and me and like, hey, do what you do? How
do I do it? I'm like, yeah, y'all know, there's no I guess right right. I'm like started out hosting little stuff and around the city and then you know, all right, so wait, wait wait, I wasn't done. Wait here we go. So then I'm driving, I'm going. I forget where I was going. It was like, no, I was going to the club. I ain't ana lie and I hear you won't be one all through I said, damn, this girl's on the radio. I was at I was
at the Halls game. I saw her on the big screen. Yeah, and all of a sudden, I leave you went through. I go the streets now for five I had to fill in on the morning show. And look at you coming in with you a little bit belly old and you're doing the morning show. Yeah. And then all of a sudden, I think within the same week I saw you on TV. Look at that modest last. You know, when you get so many companiments you don't really know how to take it. Just last, a baby married, that's
a lot. That's a lot, Like I mean, you know what she's actually one of the few women on the Atlanta Housewives that is married because she's looking. Man, let me tell you my cup running over. I'm just like you know, everybody always says like there's light at end of the tune, Like for everything great that's happening in my life, there's a batch that's happened in my past.
And that's why I tell people to be encouraged, you know what I mean, Like, just because you don't see it or you don't feel it, God is working through you and always for you. So if it's something out there for you, if you are want to do great things, you dest and Forgret, we are all destined for greatness. We just gotta figure out what we want to do
and walk in that light. So for me, I always like, I've always been real big on people and just you know, I'm a socialite, so I feel like they all work hand in hand, radio, TV, music, UM hosting, it's all like married to each other. When he was in a sense because when you like people, you just like people. Don't it don't really matter, don't feel like work, You're
just out and about just hanging out. So yeah, you know, I it was kind of sting you though, Rory, I feel like I left b and then it was like you're going over there, come over that. Where are your originally from? Sham? I'm from here in Atlanta? Okay? Um, so right now I'm in Sandy Springs. But you know I'm a Dicata baby born at Emory Crawford Long in this city. We have joked my sister that my sisters want to great to me, be like mama to may handle money when you was born. But they had a
little okay, and I graduated from Grettie High School. Okay, dog get one, diafle north side. Then you get a bunch of grated baby. They said about the about five or six times before we refilled that car. No, you know, I'm from Atlanta, the Cator Southwestern cab High School. How did you get into the Hawks? Um? How did you get into the arena? Did you always want to be a part of it or Yeah? I got into hosting the Hawks by way of dancing and cheering, but that's
how people knew me. But I got the hosting gig from Ryan Cameron Ryan Plugmy Ryan Plugmy's radio. Ryan is my mentor. When it comes down to like radio and hosting this kind of stuff. So he really just took me on this wing and he was like, you can do it. You know, you can. Even look at this day he'll be like, now you sounded stupid when you said, dude, you gotta up. You gotta not be like okay, okay, but yeah, with shout out to Ryan too, he's recovering
still rightly. I used to actually for this his show, um for like three years before. Yeah, who hasn't you worked with Yeah, well, you know, since you mentioned cheerleading, I do want to know maybe some locker room tails. Girl, tell me, did you ever date any of the players while you were cheerleading? You know I didn't. I've never been really into athletes. I'm like the white collar guy, Like I want the accountant that you know you hired, I want your rep, your lawyer, you're that guy, you know,
the athlete. I'm a hook thing up with my home girl, like your whole girls were all over it to like girl was going to the club. Sure, And I'm I'm always like the friend of all the athletes, you know, like the sister like less party and brain dam girls and brain Branthon Jillian to the pool party and bring you know that was that was kind of my role. I want your age girl, That's that sounds familiar. You're the one that they won't try, they won't disrespect, but
they will try and disrespect your girlfriends. I feel you said, yeah, I just got to play the whole. I didn't know he was with that girl. No, why you let him do that to you? I told you you wasn't. I do have a serious question. You know that for African American women it's kind of hard to basically accomplish damn there anything? Did you? Did you find any type of hardships when you were cheering to announcing because of your
ethnicity at all? Or was everything you in my career period, they're always like setbacks, but you use those to move forward if you can figure out a way to use it to your advantage and if it works for you. Like for me, I was a token black girl and I ran with that ship. I was the chocolate girl because like back in the day, back in two thousand three, like when when I first started dancing and cheering, that was no actually started actually did my first role in
drum Line. It was a movie where uh I danced alongside when we saw Donna. Yeah right, it was for me. You know, I gotta go back. I gotta go back and watch that. Yeah, you gotta watch it. So for me like exact. And I mean, I hate to sound like this, but Hollywood is changing to where chocolate and black is now beginning to be beautiful. It's always been beautiful,
but in their eyes, they're starting to see it. So back in the day, it was the same way on the sidelines, like I candy wasn't technically like like you had to be mixed or you know, or you have to be exotic or you know. And I'm like, hey, I'm chocolate. I'm zotic as hell, Like this is what you're gonna get. And it was so crazy because I remember one time I went to a school in Atlanta, elementary school and this little girl came on to me. She was like, you're chilly. Don't know that I am.
She was like, how did you get on the team? She was like because you're so black, And like, I know, girl, and I'm working home black girl magic. I was because you don't She's like, no, I'm too dark skin. And it broke my heart because I'm like, wow, why would you say that? You know, like me growing up and we um. I have two older sisters. My older sisters like light light light, like you, I take it, and then my middle sister is like you, Sue, and then
on the chocolate one. So we're like three shades, you know what I mean. But we loved it, and my parents would be like, where's my little chocolate drop? Where is my chocolate Barbie? And I feel like it starts at home, like it can. We can use this and I'm going in to to push us forward, like sure, I will say as a woman, though there have been some hiccups, I'm a singer. I started out entertainment period.
I only started dancing because I was singing and I was singing in different groups and and with someone you probably know some of the people have had their big moments, um, but for me, it was like, you know, just I don't want to have sex with you. I want to do music with you. I want to create and make money with you. And that's why I good representation is always good in this industry because you don't have to be the one speaking like you can just go in
there and be the artists. And that is the hardest thing I feel for me being taken serious as an artist and as an entertainer and not as like, um, can I smash. I think that's a struggle for women period and entertainment, because I've come across that a lot. Don't stop almost it's worse like you're married, but you had some friends like our secret can we you know, and it's like, well, I kind of just want to
just do this and not smash you. Definitely, like I Tavia said, it happens all the time in every way. I worked in nightlife for a little over ten years, and I think the first position I had, I was the email girl. Okay, I was young. I'm the email girl, and I'm just like, oh my god, like I'm out here looking crazy? Why are all these been talking to me? Then it's like as the cashier, it didn't matter what you did, It didn't matter what you look like, what
you had on. If you were walking and you had a vagina and they wanted some, they were going for it. It's so disgusting, and it is so sad because you know, men don't I mean not ting. I'm sure I'll have y'all things guys. Hey, hey, sorry, is amazing. He right to be honest with you. They had been a lot of guys in the industry that would tell me, like,
y'all to I want to work with you. Whether it was you know, jumping on my brunch or coming up with a new event to do, or whatever the case was, there was always this underlying thing of them wanting to have sex. And come when when Rory took me under his wing, you wouldn't believe our I never told you this, but a couple of women hit me and were like, hey, you have no idea that you are working with a gem ra is the only man that ever made me
feel comfortable. Um, he's never tried me. And I was like, I think it has a lot to do me being deeply in love with my wife. Yes, probably the love for your daughters too. Yes, running across no crazy man. But wait, listen, ladies, listen, listen. We're talking about vaginas. That's cool. Let's talk about the vaginas on TV that is uh in acquaintances with now you are wait, wait
before you go to that world. I just want to mention Shamia on the spirit you know of your the spirit of a black woman, like a darker you know, the sun kissed beautiful black woman, you know, because a lot of people don't have that attitude, you know, And um, I just I come across so many people with either negative attitudes, even light skinned women with you know, attitude problems like black comes in all different shades, and I
just have to embrace each other. So I just want to we are all beautiful in our own right, you know what I mean. And that's that's that's it's sad that we just always have to remind each other. And you know, that's why it's a crazy because people are like, you know, oh you read my comment on Instagram, But it makes me feel good. You can say it million times a day. But sometimes people just don't feel pretty. Sometimes people don't feel uh just value, you know what
I mean. So for me, when I go on another person's page, I might, I mean I sometimes I even go to the extreme and I might even set a little like a lesbian because I literally give it to you. I'm gonna be like food, you look gorgeous, boobs parkeys, but but all the confidence, give all talking, you are you winning, You're working you guys, And why shouldn't I be a the component? Why can't love like why can't we do that for each other? Why we always gotta
try to pull off the negative ship. You know, my hair getting great. I know my hair just be messed up sometimes. But why don't you just say d yeah, but your waistlines that you know what that that's that PTSD in our community. Okay, a lot of us are dealing with it and don't even know it. All right, ladies, stop running from a damn question. Okay, let me get back. I'm sorry. Okay, let me segue back into it. Okay, house Wives of Atlanta. Now keep in mind that's not
necessarily my cup of tea. I'd rather watch sports, but I do need to know what's going on out here in the streets. Okay, when wife's downstairs watching that, I tend to get you a little bit of it. That's all kind of like a little date thing that we could do. Oh yeah, and I noticed that Shama Morton is never necessarily in any drama on the show. You're kind of just like, uh, you're just hanging out. Um,
initially get a little weird. Initially correct me if I'm wrong, because you know, I may be off a little bit. You were brought to the show, your porscheous friends. Did you pors you grow up together? Yeah, we both grew up indicator are paid for good friends with each come on out. We both went this out with the cab, which you were forced friends that first with our parents were good friends, and then our friendship, you know, took on its own life and we've just been like, now
this is good. From the next question, are you cool with anybody else on the show? Like, is there somebody on the show that you met that was like, oh wow, they're actually really cool or they actually might not necessarily be. I've always been very fond of Candy Kansas. Yeah. Friends with Candy? Yeah, her a new song, right, y'allinger, first
female whatever. I tell you. That's why you know, when you're a good person, you're gonna always when you're gonna stay winning, because she just she's the definition of like her magic. She's doing everything for music to acting to you know, she's just this is crazy crowd right like that money. But yeah, So I met Candy up. Actually back in the day, I was in a group called Pretty Tony with Anthony did and with Carrie is In and we had did It. We were in the studio
and Kenny never remembers. I mean, she remembers everything now, but of course I wasn't cool like that back then. She like, So I was telling her like, I met you back in the day. I was in the group. But the last she was like, you did. I was like he was trying to write something. She was like, I love like yeah, and I was like, it wasn't Maybe it wasn't this group, Maybe it was that was
another group that myself. She's literally like I think I told her other day I put on clostos, like I think you have hyper with our because she don't forget nothing. There are only a few people in this world that can remember everything from their childhood all the way up and today, and Kidie on those people. You can say something on March twenty one, two thousand and four, and she will tell you the day at the time to play home where you said it, and how you said,
what she was wearing when she was wearing But that's crazy. Yeah, she's like that. But yeah, So Katie was a cool person um parts and the show, and then of course we got a little closer with me doing the show and being around Porsche because she and Porsche were actually
really good friends. And then we just kept our friendship going. Well, it's a it's a lot of beef on the Housewives of Atlanta, of course, and uh, you know, I was a little nervous that the reunion may not be as popping as they have been in the past because everyone was at home. But it was like this, but maybe that's for you. In was hot. It was hot, yo, Para was going in on Kenya screaming crazy. That's a
great question. What is the real be? It wouldn't be no TV if everybody got along, could be it could be just see any good thing. Um. I think that naturally, when you have different women, they're all powerful and doing their own thing, and they're bosses, all of them, all the beautiful, and you bring them all together, there's gonna
be something. And then TV just magnifies it. And then when you look back at it, it's even worse because it's like you live through it at the time, then you relive through it when it airs, and then reunion you bring it back up again to all these emotions. So I could have beat but you robbery yesterday. We talked about it today, Then tomorrow I'm mad again because I'm like, I know you did this far and that
you said that. Then they' getting their confessionals and you're just talking so crazy and then you you you relive it like I got you on the reunion. Well, not only do you keep it cool when you're on the show, you seem to just be a neutral person, but it seems like you also keep your personal life. Yeah, because that belongs to me, I mean, And that's the crazy thing about it. UM, just finding that balance. A lot of people I said, even in the past, like oh,
you you'll never get a peach. I don't want one, Like I'm a true peach because I'm from Georgia and this is my stage. I will say, Um, my marriage, my family will always be my priority and come first in my life. And if it doesn't feel right for my spoff, then it doesn't feel right for me. So when my husband told me we were approached about it, um doing me being full time and on the cast um as an actual housewife. Um, I thought it was a great opportunity here. I was ready jump all over it.
I'm like, I get to hang out with my friends and get paid to do it, and you know, and it just house I believe or not. Whether people admitted it does give you the platform that you need to rest and other things in your career, whereas it might take me ten times longer to get an album now if I was on, I was, I was like full time, that would be like tomorrow you're on the Ellen Show or now you're on with the Show. You know, like it's just it's a platform that you just can't really
pay for. But my husband was like, I'm not comfortable with it. I don't I don't want to do it, and I want our lives to be good outside of that show. Um, and I'm just not really sure that doing a show like this will work for us. What do you say? And I was just like I was a little bang on. I was a little I had a little heart burned about it the first so bothered. That was like, hold on, you stopped my coins, but we're gonna we got our coins over here, don't Yeah,
could keep right? So not all right now? All points are good coins and um he brought up up He was like, you know, there's not how many successful marriages have you seen on reality TV? Period? Not house Hello as I'm not taking no dig that Housewives by any means, but just period, because he's like, because some things, you know, your mom used to tell you what happens in this house, stay in this house. That has always been our thing. What happens in this house on TV is all on
TV and the intern all fair game. It's often because they said, people feel like you signed up for it, Like that's funny because I always hear um celebrities go back and forth with with fans about like, you know
you signed up for it. Well, I didn't sign up for you to come up to me and say, well, I'm having dinner with my family, or when I'm at my going to college office, you asking me for a picture and I got our legs and there like you know, it's like there's some privacy and that's just something that
we both agree that we wanted to keep. People have not realized that they have become so concerned ooomed with looking into other people's lives that they it's just second nature to them to say that, yeah, signed up to not have any privacy. Is bs like, no, I signed up to share my art, to share my talent. I don't have to give you every single, every single minute of my life. I can be with my family and enjoy that. I don't owe you a photo every time
and autograph every time. And that's why I a friend to the show for me works for me because I can jump in and play what I want and then I can just go home to my man and my my daughter and my life and be happy with it knowing that we are good and we you know, we have a functioning family unit that works for all of us. Everybody's comfortable. I'm a TV person. He never asked to be in the spotlight. Like, let's just be clear that that was never How how did you guys think for him?
You know the club rose Bar? Yeah, yeah, yeah, you know, and we were all pay So I used to go to Rosebar often. But she called me one night and she's like, I'm I'm going to Havanna come up there. Like okay, bet so, I ran into this girl who did my makeup back in the day. Um, and you know how you always come into somebody and they're like we should hang out and you're like, okay, yeah, girl, cool call me you never. It's just something she actually
called me. She's like, I'm going through the divorce and I really need a friend in Atlanta. I just got back here and I don't. I don't really have anybody hang out. I was like, well, I'm not sure about to hang out with my girl. You can come with us if you want. She's like, we going. I was like, Havana. She she was like, okay, well my friend has a section over at Rosebar. And I was like, okay, well I'll duck in there for just a second, have a drink and she then I'll go across street to my
girl gets a rose bar. Dying chocolate ass overre sitting in the section, but he's super low key. He's that's his thing. I'm the one that's like he's like, you know, he's sitting back. You know what I'm like, So he's sitting back and so wait, so then it's like, you know how there's always one guy in the section that does the most. So he's and these are like a bunch of African guys. He's happening the guys. So they're
all like older and now I walked into section. They're like cooling on me and they like but he's like laid back, not he's not even sitting up from on top of the sofa. He just sitting low. And then he got another girl beside him. The girls like the heavy said lady, and I say lady because she seemed really mature, you know what I mean. She's sitting there and she's quiet. I'm like, oh, that must be his wife. And I'm like, hey, how y'all doing? And so he's like, oh,
like I don't know her, you know. So I'm like okay. She's like, we'll help me stops a drink and I'm like, oh, okay, So I gonna sit over here by then because this is where a stafe because they ain't check it, ain't trying to be on me like that. And I got my girl who's working the little section because she divorcing,
you know, she's I ain't sitting there right. So Infortugal, she's like coming across the street, so I get up please, and the guy a little sexy and some lesson of mine says, you're leaving, and I'm like, yeah, like you he said none to me. I'm thinking myself, he didn't even talk trying to talk to me, like you only got any try to talk to But I was like, yeah, I'm leaving, going across the street and say oh, so then I was like yeah, he's like okay. I was
like okay. So I was like bye, so go across street. Or she's like, I gotta get up in the morning for dish, so just I'm gonna I'm like, I'm still hang out. So my girl calls me and she's like, girl, Rose bars popping. Now we was here too early. Come back comes street. I crossed the street. When I get in there, he's like, oh you're back, and I'm like, okay drinking. I'm like right, I'm like okay, so then maybe you'll drink Anyway. The next day, my girls like,
you know, boy, who said you was in? I was like, who the other guy? Because you know what, I'm like, I'm thinking this the other guy who's all loud. So check we nott grabbed the check and pay for the damn check with my husband car. But at the time, Flax, you know that's in that last ship he flexed and so okay, I was like, no, I don't really and he's like, no, I'm not the one that she was sitting by the you know. The ball head guy was like, oh I thought he was on the day. He's like's
not a thing a girl. So he's like he's having a cookout Sunday. He wants you to come, like wanted to go to this man's house. I end up at the house. We never stopped talking after that, Like story the club. This is a funny. This is how I knew like I could be with this guy. So I go to his house. That's Sunday for the cook out. I'm riding with my girl. She picks me up from the mall. I leave my car here. I grab you know,
all women had this big hand bad. But then we have a little another little small thing in there with our phone, our car and all that stuff. So I'll take my that little section, my little while it out, leave my person in her car. All this has is a relative to this. I leave my big person in the car with my kids in it. My car now is still at fifth. So when it's out of his house,
we're hanging out and it's like real family oriented. But I got this little last tennis skirt on frothing like this family took out, not like uh, you know, I'm stop. So I'm like I'm gonna go. I'm gonna go. He's like, oh no, no no. So he sends all the kids upstairs and he hang out of his basement. Now at this point, he's talking my head off. We talk. We end up going to after our because all the food gets gone, and he's like, oh, that's just we're gonna
take you over here. We all get in Uber's and we go over there to this little spot um and it's called it was called Josephine over there and we eat, yeah those he likes. We eat and we hang out. My girl gets drunk. She leaves. That's a random guy. I'm panted. I'm were wrest Okay. He's like, well, we just over back to my place and I'm like, yeah, but my my person is in her car, which has my keys, which I ain't gonna calling my parents at
four in the morning. Be like, I'm locked out. You know that extra back You're come all I need it right now? Can you mean it? So look, So we get back to his house and he's like, you can just go lay on my bed. I'm good. I want. I'm like, no, I bet you are good. I ain't gonna lay on your bed. He's like, no, I'm sleep on the couch. I gonna let on his bed. He did montly on the couch. He comes and like truy
to creep up beside me. I'm like, oh, that's too much, you know, I just but he didn't try, you didn't. He tried, but he didn't like he laid off, you know, sometimes be a little too pushy. So we just drank good. I don't night y'all. I got the bubble good round six. No, let me tell you, And this was no, I don't smoke Coco. It would have been worse, girl. Let me
tell you. It was like a breaking symphony orchestra. I took the loudest ship known to mankind, and I feel like echo because I was so quiet, like you couldn't even hear the A. I was like, how the quiet? So at my tiptoe trying to go to the bathroom. I tried to go come on out in the hall so like you know, I could do my thing and he would be by the way. I seemed like up. He was like you okay, and I was like and so so, oh yeah, I'm just in the gut thirst room.
He's like, no, just use the one right here. And I was like, oh no, I'm don't know. He's like, I'll just use this when it's fine. So I'm in there and I'm holding out on the tour and I'm trying like like you were here lunch after this, but that and it was so loud. Oh my god, it was so loud. Y'all. This is what we go that's what we go through that time. I was like, it was like going the walk of shame. When I walked out of the bathroom, he was like, he was He's
so sweet. This is his personality. He's like, he don't make a joke. Al He's like, are you okay? You know what I was doing? I was like yeah.
