The Lord used Leonard Ravenhill in a unique way during the 20th century. He was a man of prayer and revival. If you are not familiar with him, or simply want to know more about this modern day prophet, I can't recommend this book enough.
This August we are taking the podcast on the road.
As a guy who has ate BBQ all across America and preached in numerous churches, I have concluded that they have a lot in common. Join us as we learn what make great BBQ and a great church a whole like alike.
I begin the episode with an update on books I've written and our new website before discussing the lack of evangelism among our churches. https://www.backwoodsbaptist.com/

Lonnie Edwards serves as the pastor of Portland Missionary Baptist Church in Plumerville, AR
The president has announced his plan to "unleash the American workforce" with new manufacturing jobs. This got me wondering if Americans want to work again. Christians also seem to have a distaste for work and avoid it at all cost. How many jokes have we heard about pastors only working two days a week? It is time to think biblically about work.
My long time friend and fellow Arkansasan Wesley Cooper has written a book. "The Fruit Of Godly Suffering: 30 Truths Every Christian Ought to Lay Hold of When Trials Come" should be released in late April. We sat down to talk about his motivation for writing about Godly suffering as well as the benefits of a better understanding of this often neglected topic.
Pastor Brandon White sits down with Harold Smith to discuss ministry friends, worship, special meetings, his call to pastor in California.
Ronnie serves as the pastor of Bowlegs Baptist Church in Bowlegs, OK We sat down a few weeks ago unscripted. Join us as for an honest conversation about who knows what.
Stuart Estes serves as the pastor of Round Mountain Missionary Baptist Church near Fayetteville, AR. He also leads the Baptist Student Association on the campus of the University of Arkansas.
Russell Threet serves as pastor of West Park Baptist Church in Ozark, AR. He and I discuss some listener question geared toward new and young pastors.
Our generation is constantly bombarded with information. With a multitude of sources comes a multitude of dangers. In this episode pastor Harold Smith outlines these dangers and gives some practical advice to avoid these pitfalls.
Michael Sanchez serves as pastor of Bloomer Baptist Church in Bloomer, AR. Join us as talk about life in the backwoods.
I have known Jesse Anderson for over 35 years. He was my boss back in the early 90's and we are still close friends today. Join us as we swap stories and discuss a mutual friend who had a big influence on both of us.
Everybody holds to some form of systemic theology. The problem comes when we let the system drive the Scripture. Every system is a manmade formula that could contain flaws. Join me as I lay out some cautions about holding these systems too closely.
Change is a part of everyone's life. Understanding why we hate it so much and learning to cope with it will help us demonstrate our faith to others and trust the Lord more.
Where did the wise men from the East get their information about the King of the Jews having a star? How does God distribute information today? Is it only through the Bible? Join pastor Harold Smith as he shares some practical thoughts on this popular Christmas theme.
In this episode Pastor Harold talks about the busy seasons in our lives and how these times are really a part of the natural cycle of life. He also gives some advice for staying active during the slower seasons in our lives. God designed the Earth to have four seasons and our lives can experience these same changes. Learn why we have them and how to thrive in each one.
Join Ronnie and I as we have a conversation without an agenda. From time to time I plan to post these long format videos of conversations with preachers I find interesting.
Ronnie Qualls serves as the pastor of Bowlegs Baptist Church in Bowlegs, OK. In this episode Ronnie and I discuss the challenges of confronting conflicts in the church.
Josh Staggs serves as pastor of Hon Baptist Church near Waldron, AR. He and I discuss several lessons that we learned in our first pastorate.
The Backwoods Book Co is located at 522 Main St in Van Buren, AR. We are open to the public every Saturday 9-5 and weekdays whenever I'm in the office. All the books on these shelves are free but we limit them to one per person, per week. We limit the tracts, pamphlets, and brochures to five per person. From this building we give away gospel literature, record our podcasts, host pastors and wives fellowships, conduct missions planning, offer ministerial counseling, and hold Bible studies.
My good friend and fellow pastor Gary Fitzpatrick joins me to today to discuss why he is leaving FaceBook for good. We all have several good reasons to be on social media. But what are we giving up? Join Gary and I as we look at the negative side of social media.
Wes Brown serves as the pastor of the First Baptist Church of Plumerville, AR. Wes also enjoys a rich heritage as a third generation Baptist pastor. Join us as we discuss pastoring in the Backwoods.
Brandon Harrell and I discuss what it means to walk with the Lord and be filled with the Spirit. Old timers used to say that these people "have the touch of God on them." The touch of God is not tossed around like it used to be for two basic reasons. #1 the old timers are gone. #2 there aren't as many preachers with evidence of being in the presence of God these days. Join us as we seek to shed some light on this much needed topic.
Brandon Harrell serves as the assistant director of Global Baptist Mission and he Russian Bible Society. In this episode we discuss the history of these organizations and a few of their current projects. Join us as we talk missions.
