Alright, the Audible podcast, he's on the air, Kimbo, Cambrag, John con Jemmy and the Forgotten Man. He's gone again. He'd become the forgotten Man. I'm gonna leave Joe Rose off until I'll see him on Sundays. I hear him, but I don't get to see him. I used to see him wandering around the field before the games every now and then, Yeah Joe. I saw him do a cup of Joe, but then after that, I haven't seen him since. Yeah he is, Yeah, he's He's like, I don't know what it is. I don't know what it is.
Show Joe wouldn't. He's always been a no show Joe. But but usually when there's a paycheck somewhere, he's a show Joe. You can guarantee one thing about Joe. You know, I tell you that I tell a story all the time. I said, you know, Joe, Joe is one of those guys that is notorious for not returning phone calls, not returning forward. You will want to text me, text me, So he texted me, don't return to tech nothing. So it's a couple of years ago and I'm trying to
get ahold him you know what, I'm good. Just so I said that. I called him. I said, Joe, you know, Joey, give me a call back. Doesn't call him. I call back. Five minutes, I said, Joe, give me a call back. I said, I got I got someone. I got someone who wants to pay five thousand dollars. I'm back thirty seconds later. But hey, what's up? I said, I ain't got shipped for you. I just needed to talk to you. That's perfect, that's it. That's what the hook. That's the hook. Yeah.
So you know, but anyway, we'll see carry on because because I know one thing, I know, I talked. I did talk to him last week. He said, thank god for tuning in radio, I Tunes, Miami Dolphins app, Dolphins dot com, because I have plenty of ways to get to listen to it. I said, Joe, we don't want you to listen to it. I want you to bring your fat ass in here, sit your butt down, and be on it a little bit, you know, take a little bit of the line. He's still taking money, he's
still taking in the piece. Yeah, there you go. So all right, let's get down. But I've probably been trying to avoid John trying to avoid trying to avoid the tasking and one, Oh my god, what a you know, I trying to sing about the game last night, thinking about the game today, trying to kind of put put it into some kind of framework, and all I can just say is it was just a disappointing day from start to finish. I don't know about you, John, I
went into that game with pretty high expectant. I figured Detroit. I knew they were a good football team because they've beat in Green Bay, they beat in the New England Patriots. But you also saw him on opening week look horrendous in that and so you know they're a good football team. But I felt that the Dolphins were a better football team. I thought the Dolphins could go out, uh and play
their game. And and it's funny because I was asked earlier last week I was doing a radio show for something. They said, how would you how would you, uh, how would you categorize? What would you how would you categorize what the Dolphins are as a team in your mind? And I said, well, you know what they're. They're They're a team that's gonna be built in their defense. Their defense is gonna carry him as far as they can go. Offense is gonna have to contribute and put some points on.
But I think when you look at the strength of this team, it's on that defensive side of the football. You look at the secondary. You know, when that secondaries playing well, and they may be one of the best secondaries exactly. Uh, the young linebacker has been made, Keiko's been making play the defensive front. So I was expecting those guys to really do some damage to to that
Detroit Lion football team. But oh my goodness, what we two rushing yards to forty eight whatever was There was many I know that, and and it was just John. There was never a point in that football game where I felt like the Dolphins had it under control, not not It never got to the I got close, got close when they got you know, within eight towards there late in the game, but but that wasn't even They
still weren't in control. Then they still needed things to happen, They needed help, they needed something to happen, and and it didn't happen. So that's so so when I look out of John, I just I just disappointing. It just keeps coming coming to my head about that football game. You know, it's funny bo because I'm sure that coach Adam Gates and some of the coaching staff would disagree with me. But during pregame, during warm ups, I had a feeling, I'm like, you know what, this is another
team coming off of a by looks fresh. It's not as human in the hard rock stadium. They look like to jump around. We look like we're trying to manufacture some emotion were we look like we're trying to We're gonna go out and go through the motions. The heat's gonna take over. We're gonna make a player too, and we're gonna find a way to win. That just my feeling from the sideline, just watching us warm up. And then the game started, and our defense hasn't given up
an opening drive touchdown all season. We give up the opening drive touchdowns. So now we're you know, playing from behind, and in that drive, the Dolphins having first, Okay, they're backed up, and this is that just our chance to get off the field, get back into the rhythm of a game. You know, we punt, they punt, Okay, everything's okay. Now we're gonna feel each other out. We'll get going
from here. But it never got to the point, as you said, never got to the point where you felt like we're over the hump and now we're gonna start the role, because as soon as we started making plays, it seemed like a guy would go down, or something wouldn't break in our way, or we'd miss a tackle. You know, the the explosive plays that Detroit was able to create, not only on the ground, but you know, through the air and throughout that game, we didn't affect
Stafford at all. He had time and those big plays on the ground by Johnson, we're just backbreakers for this defense. Look even the time when you there was a couple of times when you kind of had him moving in the pocket, but he was found, he found a route to escape, picked up yardage you had one way, he picked up the first down and stuff. So yeah, it
just it just nothing went there. And and you know, John I I've I've told the story before about how getting ready, doing everything the same way, and you get in the field and you just don't feel that's your day, that one on my day. But you but but you go, well, there's ten other guys in that huddle. They'll they'll lift
me up. And then you stick your head and huddle and you look at and I you know, I can't say for sure because I didn't stick my head, not at all, but but I kind of felt like that was one of those days for the defensive side of the football there where it just you know, nobody, nobody raised your hands say hey, I'm gonna take I'm gonna take charge. Just take a look at the play. I mean you could take a look. Bobby McCain coming back from injury, was not himself. He was on the ground
a lot. You know, he's grabbing a lot. There's a lot of things. Kiko Alonso was bouncing off of running backs. He was bouncing off of wide receivers and tight ends. How many times do we have to see a guy going the flat where three guys cover him and the tight end goes about ten yards behind and no one's there. I mean, just simple identification things that go on in weeks seven or a week eight of a football season that should never happen to a professional. I saw guys.
I saw guys in the run game taken inside charge is when they're when they're when they're running outside, when they're running a perimeter, a perimeter play, and you got a defensive end that that that takes an inside charge and there's nobody outside to get up field and turn that thing inside and boom, there they go down for another tan fifteen whatever yards. It seemed like every time I turned around, there was just a big run coming and started the first play of the game, carry on
Johnson goes twenty four yards. His next carry, he goes seventy one. Two carries and he's at a hundred and he's at yards after two carries in the game, and that hasn't happened to a Detroit running back and went one years. I don't think Barry Sanders every did ninety five yards, and he made a ninety yards in one place, but I don't think every the first two plays. But it just it just looked like we were out of Every time he looked at they looked like the fresher team.
They look like the aggressor, they look like the bully and the and the Miami Dolphins were relying on a couple of plays to keep him close, keep him close, but they never had that knockout punch where they could say, you know, we're gonna take control of this football game. You know, John, when it got to four fourteen fourteen, I just kept going, you know, we're gonna pick something off.
We're gonna something's gonna something's gonna happen. We're gonna get a turnover and it's gonna lead to a score, and we're right back in this game. And it's just one of those It just never, never, never happened. There was a one play where he coughed up the ball and it yeah up in the air. One of those NFL films were the bottle balls. He's kind of hanging in the air. Nothing then but a bounce right back in the ball carrier's hands. And you know, I missed opportunity there.
But uh and and and again. I talked about it after the game on the postgame show. To me that that was a game that was an opportunity missed in that football You know, I'm not sure we missed more opportunities. I think we missed more opportunities. And we did tackles in that football game. You know, that was a lot. But I just felt like this was you know, I
keep looking back. You go in. You need a Detroit team that's a beatable football team and quite frankly, for a team like Detroit, really all you do is gotta get under their skin, you gotta you just gotta give them a reason to that. They never had a reason to doubt in that football game. And I was reading some of the quotes from some of their players this morning, and then that's what they said. They said, Hey, we came out there, we were fresh, We felt good. You know,
we never felt like they challenged us. We never felt like they were in the game. And we just we just rolled on. And you can see now now, had the Dolphins come out and stuffed it down their throat, you know, and and and then now they know they got they got a long day's work, that then it could have been a different story. But it never really threatened them. And you look at you look at Detroit. Detroit scored on every single drive but one but the
second one they punted. And and and you talk about the Dolphin, you know, the Dolphins to me or a team that they better get out of there. They need they need to play from the front. You know, we we've played enough from behind. They need to be a front running team. But they three and out punt punt after a first down punt again. You finally get the touchdown from he steals your ten seven You okay, that's fine here we are. Let's just kind of keep it rolling.
You get a sack that gives you a punt, uh, your punt again. Meanwhile, all they're doing scoring every single time they went down the field except for the one and and you just never got never got into the mode. We never had enough to to pull even. And when you pull even, kind of look looked at opponent in the eye and say, you know, this is our game at home. We're gonna find a way to win it. You know. In the end, with six minutes left, you know, Miami cuts the devist at the eight and they have
a chance to get off the field. And I think it was kind of a questionable call on his Xavian Howard with the past interference. You know, he started with that right or the left hand on on the left hip, but pulled off right away and then made a play on the football without being on the receiver's body, and he gets a late flag from from that sideline. So that that was a type of point of a game where you got under six left, you feel like you can get off the field. There and have a chance
to go down and and tie the football game. Uh you know, so the Dolphins had a chance late. Yeah, speaking of I'm I'm about I've had enough of these passenger Ferris calls. I I just you know, it's it's it's two penal of a call for those guys to be making it on that little bit of contact because I look, technically, yeah, you could call that, you could play. You gotta let these guys play the game. And I just don't think they're letting them play the game anymore.
And And to me, if if they're gonna if they're gonna call pass interference the way they're calling pass interference, it can't be a spot foul. You gotta it's gotta be a ten It's gotta be ten or fifteen yards or whatever. You can have some guy running down the field and and their arm fight, their hand fighting going down the field and the balls balls overflown, you can't catch the ball, but they call a passe interference on the defensive back and you get the ball forty five
yards down the field on the five yard line. That to me is you know, if you're gonna call them that way, then then cut down, the cut down, the uh, the you know, the penal, it's the pen it is when you get called from that one the one play where Bobby gets past interference. You know, it's twenty to fourteen.
You know, the Dolphins are only trailing by six, and I think that play just on the penalty alone went from the thirty four yard line or the forty eight yard line all the way down to the twenty three yard line. You know, it's almost like a forty yard penalty yard penalty. And Bobby's was a kind of an armed drug arm laying down there just kind of you know, hits him in the leg. You know, look, there was you know, to me, that call and I saw a call last night. They didn't get called. That's that's an
incidental contact to me. They both go down, right, and they didn't get called last night. Yeah, it's right, So it's you know, it's it's and look, yeah, I understand that, you know, I understand that they're not calling them against teams. They're they're not anti Dolphin, they're not anti Jets. They're not they what they call them, what they call them, the way they think they see them. But man, they've got to do something about it, because it's just it's
it's ship. They're scoring forty five points a game, but the average, I mean, look at and and really the Dolphins haven't benefited for a couple of those calls down the field when you when you throw it, the under the under thrown ball is the one where teams are getting that past interference because the defensive back is running into the wide receiver or holding onto the wide receiver
because they're initiating contact. It seems like when the Dolphins are trying to take that shot, the ball has been either overthrown or when it is underthrown, like it was Sunday against Detroit, you get a guy hurt. You know, Kenny still doesn't come down with the ball, but he hurts his growing and now he's you know, he's out
probably on Thursday night on the road against Houston. You know, I'm just against I'm against a penalty in this game where you know, you know, you know, you win or lose, and it's a man, it's it's a big it's a big difference, you know, it's a it's a major I mean, looking it's just the way people feel the way people go about their week from fans, to players and everyone,
it ruins their whole week exactly. But but when when there's a play on the field where you can say, hey, we're down by seven, you know we haven't been doing let's just let's just throw the ball down the field and we get we hope for hope for a catch or a penalty. And when you gotta play, when you can throw when you can when you gotta play in a game like this where you can say, let me just throw the ball down because there a good chance
we're gonna get a penalty. To me, that's that's that's not that's fine if it's if you call it penalty, but don't don't put it down the five yard line. Bring it back, give them fifteen yards, you know, do like a face mask. It's either a five or it's either five or fifteen yards or whatever. You wanna get something that eventually, and you hope that that Competition committee kind of looks at down the road because that is a very penal penalty in terms of yards with one
play that's not a successful play. And sometimes you know, if you if you take away that spot foul, it makes the offense earn it a little bit more, especially with all the rules that are favoring the offensive side of the football when it comes to the passing game and in the contact rules and the holding rules and the hands to the face and not being able to target you know, hit hit guys coming across the middle, like you know, to intimidate a wide receiver at warrant
offensive day, you only want to want you in there. If you come in there, you're gonna get a headache that day. Those days are pretty much over. So but you got it. All goes back to the Dolphins made some mistakes, They didn't play consistent enough football, and Detroit handed it to him, came down. They came down to South Florida on a week off and played more consistent and executed better. Now there, look, there's no doubt walking
up that field who the better team was. That There wasn't one question about who was a better team walking off the field after that game. Now, going in canna make a pretty good argument either way on that, but but not not afterwards. And John I just was just shocked, shocked at how they ran the ball. You know, it's one thing if you run the ball fifty times and you're getting two and three yards and you grind out
a hundred fifty yards. But but when carries, yeah, I mean, come on now, you know, averaging eight point three yards per carrying, that's what Johnson did. Nuts, just nuts, And you know they had six drives that were over sixty three yards. They were time on the clock, you know, controlling the ball. Yeah, I'm looking with their explosive play.
Three first downs in their first touchdown, their their second touchdown, they had five or six, They had five in their their four Everyone was it was an accumulation, not like they were not like they were throwing bombs. It was two. They weren't to play drives, no, no, they they had to work their way down the field and they added those explosive plays and then they finished drives, and that
was the key. They just stayed one step ahead of the Dolphins, and every time the Dolphins crept up and thought they had a chance, they'd either score or play keep away. You know, like you said, they only punted there. I think it was their second possession in the afternoon. The only time. The other thing is offensively, John and I talked about getting out to getting jumping out and putting some points on the board. Earlier. It really has been an issue really since Adam Gays has been here.
It's been an issue of them not being able to get ahead early in games. And this is one of those games. We're really bitch in the butt and and and they kept clamping kept clamping down on it while while they had you had your bit there. But uh, but having said that, with this offense, you know, you you look at you look at Brox numbers. You know, big quarterback rating, you know, no no turnovers, two touchdowns, what's thirty nine? Two touchdown? You say that before the game.
You walk in make it you me and you were walking that stay and you know, hey, Brock, you're gonna throw it for two forty. He's gonna have two touchdowns, no turnovers, Dolphins winning this game, win this game, not not a problem. And especially when you add into dany Am a. Dole is gonna get six, he's gonna get his first touchdown of the season. Gasick, he's gonna have
three catches. Um, you know, the discipline anything. The big difference between last week against the Chicago Bears and this week against the Detroit Lions, where it was the first down running for the Miami Dolphins. I think they lost both sides of the line of scrimmage bow and when you do that, you can't you can't mask your inability to make plays either on third down or make explosive plays when Albert Wilson leaves the game due to injury.
So I just thought that when you saw Frank Gore go four or five and six last week and then you see him go one, no game, two yards, it doesn't you felt it. I felt it watching that they were gonna struggle staying on the field. We talked about them having success when they you know they can get if they can get four or five yards on first down, and then then they're in good shape because then you've got two downs to to kind of pick and choose.
But you're right, you know second and eleven, you know second and nine, second and eight, you know that those don't those they're not easy to overcome in those situations. They had a couple of holding calls and knocked him back. Even if I think their first drive they got a penalty that are a sack that that cost him, uh cost him a first down? Yeah, franc one of those two right off the bat. Yeah. Um, but yeah, he's just just how I feel about it. You know what,
you never could feel comfortable. I didn't feel comfortable Sunday watching it. You just felt like you're gonna have to depend on the Detroit Lions making a mistake because I didn't think the way the game was playing out that the Miami Dolphins we're gonna be able to stop Stafford in the lines and the running game of Johnson, and we weren't gonna be able to score in the thirties to overtake them. And and to tell you, yeah, you know,
literally you had insult to injury. Are the injury man about the injury guys on the injury Albert Wilson an awkward, an awkward step, an awkward hit, you know, and he has a hip injury and he's out. Kenny Stills runs over the security girl, he hurts his shoulder, comes back in and plays, and then he going, you know, late in the game, and it doesn't look like he's gonna be able to go. Um. Yeah, there there's just a lot of guys that are you have questions on what
they're gonna be able to give you. Charles was probably still out. Ryan Tannehill is still gonna be out. T J McDonald, you know, had an ankle and a knee injury, so he's questionable, uh to be able to play. There's a lot of guys on the report, uh in terms of you know, Vincent Taylor, you talked about Bobby McCain with the knee, even though he's gonna be expected to play again. But they're they're banged up. They're not a
hundred percent, no one is. But when you have this amount of injuries to keep players explosive players on the offensive side, it really dampens you. And look, I felt pretty good going into that game from the standpoint that moving forward, you have a guy started coming back. Andre branch is coming back. I think Jonathan Wood is probably gonna be back next week. You know. So you got Cam back, you got Cam back, you got the or A. J. Derby.
He'll probably be back next week. I thought he had a chance to play this last weekar So going into game on, hey, gee, you know we can get through this game. You got some you got you know, you got the Calvaries coming back in to help you out.
But now you you've kind of the bottom bottom open up and you dropped four or five other guys that probably not gonna nothing to help you this one, and then you've got four or five they're gonna play that, aren't you know that you're kind of out there crossing your fingers, going, you know, hopefully he can get get by this week, and then you get the weekend to heal up and and probably four or five days to
get up. I just I was listening to some listen to the radio show and they're talking about talking about the game, and they go, oh, yeah, I forgot I'm thinking about I'm thinking about Deshaun Watson. I'm thinking about offense and those guys, and I go, shoot, I forgot
about j J. Watt and Gadavian Clowney. On the other side, you know, you've got a bunch of guys in the Texans that you know, they're feeling pretty good about themselves four straight right now, and then in their in their home for a for a Thursday night game, and uh you know that that's look and with our history against the Texans hasn't been very good as a franchise, but you know that's I think that Texans came in here their their their inaugural year and and beat our assid
the uh at the then. I don't know what it was land Shark or some life or whatever your stadium at at that point, but uh yeah, we haven't had a very good uh haven't had very good history with against his football team. Like playing the tit it's like
playing Baltimore for the Miami Dolphins. To two teams the teams struggled with, and you've got to be able to You've got a different type and a different style of quarterback for this defense to prepare for with the Deshaun Watson, because the guy can move off of his spot, he can create on his own. He still can beat you from the pocket. You got you know who's the DeVante? They got the the their the receiver. Who who's the receiver? Yeah Hopkins? John Hopkins, Well that guy may be as
good as anybody in the league. His kid, well, he he can beat you man to man, he can sit down in zones. He's good run after catch. Um. You know, so Hopkins is one of those guys that can really you know, you've got Lamar Miller, who's an explosive running back game. I don't know, I don't know what he ended up with, but I know at some point I looked at scoreboard and so he had eight rs rushing
in that game. So yeah, there's a lot of things that you have to be able to to do well to win on the road, number one against any opponent. But when you've got you've got corners that are good, you've got edge rushers that are really good. You've got a quarterback that can be explosive, either tucking it or throwing it on the run or hanging in the pocket. And you've got Miller that can you know, really put that fifty sixty seventy yard run at any time with
his speed. There's a lot of issues the Miami Dolphins have to worry about, but most importantly, they've got to worry about how they play and and in correcting the mistakes that beat him at hard Rock Stadium on Sunday.
They can't. They have to eliminate, you know, the easy runs, this explosive plays, the mistakes that they they can control defensive and it's not it's not hard to do, John, I mean, you know, it's it's it's about you know, it's about defensive linemen and lineman you know, not getting big separation forward and back, if you know what I mean.
You know, it seemed like times you had you know, maybe your defensive end was way up the field and you and one of your defensive tackles kind of pushed back and it created create a big crease in or such a big hole for these guys run through. And it was all day long. It was on both sides, was inside, it was outside. I think they had success running and every It wasn't like you stopped him from running under perimeter, and they did it all inside or
vice versa, and they wherever they wanted to go. They were able to run. You seem like the running backs, especially Johnson. It wasn't so much uh uh blunt, but Johnson was able to hit his stride two or three steps and never you know, Denver deviated. He got faster attacking the line of scrimmage. It wasn't that he had a stop and then start again. When he got the ball, he was downhill and he was he was at top speed in three steps and he went right by the
second Dolphins. This thing. The other thing was disappointing, uh they're tight end was that Roberts comes in with one, He comes in with a catch for a touchdown and ends up with three catches for two touchdowns in the game, and he was wide open, wide open, and look, I watched someone the one John Uh. I hate to say it, but he looked he looked so slow. I thought I could have covered him, you know what I mean. But maybe maybe it's just the way I looked at him.
He just he looked like he was just kind of very fast because he didn't want to run to be covered. He was exactly so he's like, let me just idle this thing down. Just sit here because no one's around me. Hopefully Matthew can see me. Yeah. So well, look we are we are what we are now, four and three, And as I said, missed opportunity would have been great to be sitting here at five and two rounds now.
Now you're in a dog fight because the short week and anything and look, anything had happened to short Dolphins could go there and play a great game and you know, get the job done and come back and say, hey, look at it, all right, we're five and three. Let's move on, or you can sit here next to you know, you're five hundred at the halfway in no In South Florida, fans Bloom and Doom sets in at that point, at
the halfway mark. I mean, you're sitting there the way you start four and two, four and two, people were gonna think of the sky's falling four to Yeah, that's all we're gonna win. That's all we're gonna do. We're
all gonna win four games. What are we doing? No, But you're right both if you if you come back after playing the Texans and you're at five hundred, you're gonna feel like the first half of the season was a loss for the Dolphins because you start three and oh, you feel like you know you've got a chance that you know you start with, you start winning, and you you never got that extra game. You know, you go to New England, you feel like, hey, we're gonna show
the Patriots. Now we're gonna get this extra game. We're gonna get ahead of them. You lose, you know, you come back, you look at your wounds, you learn from your mistakes. You're getting on another role again. You figure, well, we're gonna win. We're gonna win this Detroit game, and it's gonna be one that we can put in the pocket. After not even talking about the Cincinnati game that you
like you've thrown away. But if you win at home against Detroit, you stay undefeated at home, you feel like you're dominating, and you know teams when they come down to South Florida, but you lose that game, and now you're trying to go, all right, where are we gonna find some other ones? And and on a short week with a with a roster that's that's beat up, this is gonna be one of the tougher games. The Miami Dolphins have to scratch and claw to win, no doubt,
and they're trying to find out they're going early. You know, they early travel to UH to Houston just to kind of get acclaman. I think coaches, I think every coach trying to figure out what's the best way to what's the best way to get your team ready, especially if you gotta go on the road and play on a Thursday night, because you know, you you miss a dan travel UH and and everyone's beat up, and it's just man,
I those Thursday games. We used to play Thursday games every now and then late in the year we play one, but but they never seemed as as brutal as these are. You know, every week Thursday games, um Man, you look at these guys because they just played two three days ago. Man, that's so I think that's a rough ask. I thought I saw a stat today that talked about home teams on Thursday night. It's it's you know more than half that that they're they're coming out, they're coming out on top,
and you know they're arrested. They get that extra day, don't have to travel. You know, if they're beat up, they can go home and sleep in their own bed and they can get their treatment earlier. You know, in their own facility. They have a ritual. You know, they're on their program. More to say, even though there you lose a couple of days that it's much to be said about being the home team on a Thursday night. Yeah, but somehow, some way, uh, we gotta find Look, you
look like it's you. You may call it coach speak, you may call it what you want. But no matter what the circumstances are, no matter if you've got to pull up the fifty three guy in the roster and have him line up and play for you, you gotta find some way, somehow to come out of Houston with a win. And that that means all those guys in that defensive front. They've got to play twice. They gotta play twice as good as they did last week. Line
actors have to be better. Second, everybody on that football team has to be better than they were on Sunday. They've got to be better at what they do and they've got to be more disciplined with what their assignments. So well, this team wins as a team. They have to play as a team on Thursday, because it's not gonna be one guy that's gonna turn the tide for the Miami Dolphins are turning that switch from off to on. It's gonna be that group on defense running to the football,
creating those opportunities with turnovers. It's gonna be on offense, eliminating the sacks, being better on first down, being better on finishing drives with touchdowns, and and doing all the little things that seem like fell through the cracks against the Detroit Lions. Yeah, and then look, it's tough on the coaching staff, certainly tough on players that they'll get no this week, they'll get no physical work at all.
You know, this will all be about just you know, walking through things, sending meetings, talking about things, getting getting your your mental game plan put together and and going through all that, and then and then going out and just laying it out on the line. The good thing is when you've got ten days off when you come back, so you might as well go and lay it all
on the line. Well, you know, the good thing about a short week is you don't have time to worry about how the Detroit Lions beat you anymore because you've got a really good football team that's on a roll
square ahead of you. And maybe it's deleting a little bit of the game plan on both sides of the football and focusing on in on what we really do well and try to and try to win that way by repetition on a smaller scale of what you have to do offensively in the game plan, maybe taking a few things out defensively, tweaking it to a certain guys, you know, with Hopkins, and how you want to defense Watson in the pocket and being able to, you know,
not rush past the quarterback. All the little things that you have to focus on when you're when you're changing your your focus to a different team. This may be that kind of game where you say, let's just look, let's let's look at the five things we do best in the running game, five things best things we do in the passing game, and let's just run the hell out of defense. Look, let's do what we're stout at.
Let's let's do that. Let's go man to man. Let's not beat ourselves, make ourselves, let's not let's not outthink ourselves. Let's just play. Let's go out there and throw the best we got at him and let the chip fall. Don't try to out scheme um out, you know, trick play him this, and now I just go out do what you do best and then let the chips fall. And hopefully the guys that are that have to step up and play for the injuries, they just do their job,
you know, because we've seen him at practice. They're out there on scout team. They're doing all the things that they're they're working hard, and now they get that chance, they get that call up to say it's my turn. I gotta be good for one week, and this is this is the week. I gotta play at a level that, uh, my expectation level is why the Dolphins kept me around for this opportunity. Vincent, Hey, I think we're gonna Getcent a little bit. Well, let's give him a couple of minutes.
He's got a couple of things to do. Let's so we're gonna just kind of hang out here for little bit and wait for Vincent to come back here. All right, As we said, here's Vincent Taylor join us. Vince. Uh. Uh, tough day yesterday, And I know it's one of those games that, uh, it seems like whatever could go wrong and kind of went wrong with you, certainly on the defensive side. You guys had a chance to watch and watch tapes and that, um, the things that you saw
out there all correctable things. Yeah, for sure. You know, we got a quick turn around going into Thursday. We gotta put the Detroit film behind us. You know, we got a big one coming up another road, a road game for us in a hostile environment. So it's gonna be on Thursday night, so a lot of people would be tuning in. So I gotta go up there and
execute and let last week be last week. Short turnaround, and then you gotta do how do you go about getting yourself I know you're kind of young guy in sleep, but how do you go about getting yourself ready? Uh? In such a short turnover so that you can be at your best come Thursday night. Like Yawait told me after the game. You know today it's really Monday, but for us, since it's a quick turn around as a Wednesday, so we gotta look at it as a Wednesday, you know,
approach it like that. Uh, you know, get out of my side, is getting the cold, you know, start hydrating and get a lot of sleep. Is that? Is that the biggest thing for you right now is to your body because you look at the injury report, they're seventeen guys on the injury report. Everybody's nicked and everybody's bruised at a certain point. But rest and taking care of what you can control with your time off the field, is that? Is that a priority for you guys right now?
For sure? Like you mentioned, it's something that you get control, so you gotta make sure you stay on it. Like I mentioned, a lot of sleep and a lot of hydration, so you know, you gotta drink up, drink a lot of fluids because Thursday I'll be here before you know.
Have you had you know, wins and losses aside, if you had a lot of fun with the group that you're with because it seems like through training camp and through you know OT going back to O T. A S and going to the preseason, do you guys have a good camaraderie. You guys kind of genuinely like each other and get along and and when things are going well on the field, it seems like you guys are there to pick each other up. Man, Am I getting
the right vibe from that room? Oh? Yes, for sure, you know, not just from my room, but as a defense as a whole. You know, when things going down, you know, we go to the sideline dnon go talk to the DBS. We talked to the linebacker. So we all just try to stay close. But in the D line room, like you mentioned, you know, we were pretty close as a unit. And I think that's the way it should be. I keep your people, keep telling me. You're an instigator in there. You you create, you create
issues in there. Man. You talking up a little bit with your fellows, just kind not nothing bad, just kind of keep things like, keep things fun in there. You gotta have fun. You know, we see we'd be around each other every day, so you know, you gotta make it fun. It was one of the things I told coach Chris. You know, uh, every time I'm here, I try to have fun with it, you know, and uh, you don't make it fun, it's gonna be a long day.
You know. It's funny the fun you know, you can you can break down all the groups on the football team. You got the quarterbacks, the wide receivers, the grossest guys or the offensive linement and the defensive line. When it comes to in meeting room, in meeting room entertainment, if you will, for sure you know that all the flatulence going on, all that kind of stuff, for sure you got You got your dbs, they kind of I guess you would stay pretty boys into all the fashion, you know,
all dressed up well and looking good, dressed up. And then you got d lineman who do all the dirty work. So that's how you got it. Who's the big instigator? Some somebody told me, got y'all likes to like to get the poking with the stick a little bit. Got your man a cool dude. You know, he's like a brother to me. You know, me and him pretty close. But he him, Yeah, you gotta you gotta watch out for him. You know, he tried to be slick. He tried to get him there where nobody could hear. But
you know, me and him got that connection. And I know it like people don't know what we'll be talking about, but you know we got that connection. See that good of a cook. He's always bragging about he's a big, big time cook. Yeah, I mean he gotta uh you know, he had barbecues at his house for the d Lineman. He got really like hamburger helper and stuff like that. Now you do hamburgers? Did he do? Me? So? Heven just down? Do you know what he's doing on a
grill like that? I just want to make sure because there's been a lot of rumors floating around that he's been taking some sending somebody to public and getting stuff and saying that he cooked it. Yeah. Yeah, I've seen it from from you know, close up. He cooked it himself. Vouch for him if it's how do you feel about? And look? I know I know that the first thing you're gonna say that everyone says is that I still got to get better. But but but you really made
a big jump from last year to this year. You played well last year. This year you just kind of playing out of control out there. You feel like you're you're moving in the right direction as far as your individual play is concerned. Oh yes, you know, but like you mentioned, I got a lot more stuff I can improve on, you know, to take my game to the next level. But this year I think the different from
this year than last year. You know, I'm playing more free now, you know what I'm saying, things better than different formation. Watching film and uh, I kind of got an idea what's coming. When you woke up day after Detroit did how piste off were you in terms of God? That was a good opportunity for this football team to win at home? And how do you how do you
put that aside now? To focus because as a pro that's gotta be the toughest thing to do, you know, to put a loss aside and strictly focus on the team at hand. How do you do that? How do you handle that? You got to you know that it's a lead where you're gonna win something, you're gonna lose something. You know, it's the NFL. You know, it's hard to win the game at this level where there's a division game, a home game or away game. But like you mentioned,
we got a fast turnaround. We gotta put it behind us and our main focus right now. You gotta you you got a good football team on on Thursday. They won four straight games the Houston Texas, and I don't know if you're the Dolphins have always struggled against this football team, So it'd be nice to kind of change that that that tone right now. But uh, but you guys gotta be prepared for a very good football team.
That's they're gonna try to run the football and young Lamar Miller had over a hundred yards rushing in in their game. Got a good quarterback that can move around. So you guys definitely gonna have your hands fall out there on on Thursday evening for sure. You know, I'm pretty sure they're gonna look at the last game and try to take some of the stuff that Detroit did. Like you mentioned that on the Full Game Winning Street. They're going back home on a Thursday night hospital environment,
so they're gonna bring a game. We gotta expect to do the same. And you get a different style quarterback you're going up against as well. You know, Matthew Stafford, he's a little bit of a mobile guy, but Lex is hanging the pocket when you look at Deshaun Watson. What do you guys see I know you you've got to peek at him on tape a little bit. What what type of player? You know him from college obviously, but what type of player do you see now for
the Houston Texans calling signals? Well, it ain't no sequel. You know, everybody in the lead, you know what, Uh, DeShawn is a capable of doing. He's a mobile quarterback, you know. Uh. Once we get with Burke and get with the defense, we're gonna have a game plan ready for him, and it's up to us to go out there and execute it. This this is a game about. This is a mental game for you guys. You're not gonna practice much all week, so it's about getting yourself
mentally prepared to play the football game. Uh and and and and and I guess thinking about it, going in and look at You're gonna be tired, You're gonna be sore, But you might as well go in and and and and bust the ass right off the bat, because you're gonna be out there and play anyway, you might as well might as well make it work. Right. You took the worries out of my Mom, like you mentioned, you gotta go out there and play. Anyways, you know, we
had a game on Sunday. They had a game on Sunday, So it's gonna come down which team could execute the game playing, uh the best. All right there, say, appreciate you stopping by. Wish you the best of luck, Try to get your try to get your your your body ready. And you know, I always always keep saying, hey, you know what, ten days off afterwards or ten days until the next game is a it's a nice little break
after that, you know. So, so if you can get that win and get past that, feel pretty good about it. Thanks for man, Thanks for stopping in.
