Episode description

Episode 76 features a conversation with Jonathan Grisham. He starts by giving us some background on himself and his spiritual journey. We spend some time discussing cults and identifying some of their defining characteristics. Jonathan gives details about growing up in the Independent Fundamental Baptist Church and outlines some of his experiences within that organization that align with cult behavior. We address the idea of faith deconstruction and he offers some advice that he has gained from his journey of leaving the IFB. We also talk about religious trauma and share some strategies for advocating and supporting survivors of religious abuse. Towards the end, he gives some information about the book he has written, "Growing Up Independent Baptist" and tells where you can find it and how to support him. If you are interested in reading his book, it will be available for free on Kindle from 8/20 through 8/23!
