¶ Strategies for Sustainable Growth
Welcome back to another episode of the Art of Online Business Podcast . I got my co-host , jamie , here . Thank you for being here , jamie , and listener . If you can't see , because you're not a watcher yet , casey DeMoto is back . She was on the previous episode . We just got finished recording it .
You probably listened to it a couple of days ago and , if you haven't , you absolutely must listen to it , especially if you're going through tough times in your online course business and you want to learn about resilience to get through those tough times , and something that Casey shared called vibe , and we're not talking about woo-woo vibe .
We're talking about getting vision , being intentional and balancing your time and separating your personal time from your business time , building resilience and evolving in a very concrete way that will not only get you through the tough time but set you up to be , quite frankly , more successful than you were before that tough time . Am I doing all right , casey ?
Yes , you're doing great .
All right , let's keep going then . So who is Casey ? Wow , all right , I'm going to just share a little bit about her and , by the way , if you can't see us , hop over to the YouTube channel right now , the episode link is in the show notes and then you'll be able to see Casey . Thank you for being here , casey .
Thanks for having me .
So . Casey DeMoto is an experienced business advisor , executive life coach with 20 years of experience as a high-achieving professional across multiple industries . She began her career in pharmaceutical sales and later launched an aesthetic division of a dermatology practice .
As a board-certified dermatology PA , she went through the 2008-2009 turmoil and kept on trucking to come out of there way more successful , founded a global skincare brand , then launched and expanded her online coaching and consulting business , later dividing that into two independent companies , simultaneously growing a multi-seven-figure real estate portfolio across the US , while
maintaining a happy , very intentionally focused marriage and traveling the world with her husband . If you want to know how she did this , you got to listen to the previous . Well , watch the previous episode . The link is in the show notes below Again . But Casey's on a mission to impact 1 million entrepreneurs and high achievers .
She aims to provide easy to implement mindset strategies and , if you didn't clue in on that , they are quite easy to implement . If my brain could take notes while interviewing her to write down this five framework , because for sure I'm going to use that and my wife would keep me accountable to use that . She also has unique proprietary business tools .
We will do it together , wife , to keep me accountable to use that .
She also has unique proprietary business tools we will do it together and clear roadmaps that intentionally align business to life to show you , the listener , and other folks who you might tell to listen to this podcast episode , that building their dream lives , building your dream life , is more achievable than you might think .
And this whole bio doesn't even do her justice . Casey , thank you for being back on the episode to talk about strategies for sustainable growth despite crazy tough times .
Yes , yeah , thanks for having me . I'm excited to be here .
I'm excited for you to be here . I'm just in learn mode right now . So what kind of tough times can these strategies help ? The listener weather ?
Yeah , really any strategy . So there's a growth strategy and a leadership strategy both that will help you overcome anything , whether it's in your industry , whether it's economic times , whatever's going on .
It will help you recognize the opportunity of A what's not working and B how to fix it , so that you can come out stronger both your business and yourself as a person and as a business leader .
There are some things that you can do that you can apply that most people don't realize how easy it is , and some people think about when I use the word leadership , they're like but I don't have a big team yet . So am I a real leader ? And my answer is yes , you are . If you are a business owner , you are a leader .
You are leading your industry , I hope in a way that's new and different , and you definitely need to learn how to lead yourself . Hopefully , you're building some micro teams you know if you even have a VA or somebody so and you want to be building your business acumen along the way .
So you are a leader no matter what stage you're at , and there are some very simple business growth strategies that you can apply as a business leader .
I encourage you to use that word about yourself , no matter what stage you're in in your business journey . You are a leader , absolutely , absolutely , yeah , even if you're a team of one , but the people that you are serving and that your course is helping , like you're , you're leading those people .
Anybody who leads their self , ie leads all those crazy thoughts , most of which tend to be negative , that go through our minds on a day-to-day basis and try to run us . Yeah , we're a leader , definitely a leader .
That's the first step . And that's the first step . And what I wanted to hit head on , before we get into the tactical tools , is this concept of you know writing down a sticky note .
I always have sticky notes on my desk , you know all over the place , like we are a leader , I am a leader , I am leading myself , I'm leading my team , I'm leading my industry .
Every day , say that to yourself every single day , because that gets you out of the weeds , out of the minutia and into this mindset of like I can figure this out because that's what leaders do .
And if I started my business to build my mission , you know , whatever that mission , whatever your industry might be , so if you've got a course , that you're I mean we're working with , with course creators here the sky's the limit on who you might be helping with your course and your skills you are leading those people , you are leading your community to elevate
themselves . And so , even if you don't label yourself as a coach , you're leading .
You're leading your industry and you're leading your community , and so starting to recognize that helps you overcome where you are in your stage , because , especially in the digital space , a lot of people tend to recluse into being that kind of hermit at home or working on our laptops and we're executing all the things and we're not thinking of ourselves in that
forefront of no , I am leading , I am disrupting and I am coming in with and taking this industry by storm in what I'm doing , and online business owners are just as much leaders as brick and mortar and bigger business entities . So , changing that shift and thinking of yourself as a leader I have this , you know , kind of casual debate with people every day .
All day is you are a leader . Own it , and that will start to change things even more than the tactical skills of growing a business . Even more than the tactical skills yes , the mindset , because leaders are resilient . You will find a way .
We will figure out who it is to talk to , what it is you need to implement and when you need to implement it , because that's what leaders do . Leaders are resourceful , resilient and they take action .
And so if you start to think about yourself in that way and you start to study leadership habits , more than even the specific digital skills , and you start to combine everything together , that's when the magic happens .
All right , this is a bit of a tee up , but , casey , I hear that I should work on mindset , but I don't have enough time to work on mindset . In the meantime , during these crazy tough times , I'm floating credit card bills .
I just had to fire a team member , maybe because they're not pulling their weight and I'm sure as heck not figuring out how to advance my own business forward . How am I going to focus on the mindset again ?
So first step in mindset , the very first step as a business owner is to understand business acumen .
So I'm going to give you my five steps to grow any business right now , because if you understand business , how it works , the cashflow and the machine to propel your business forward , you start to build that confidence muscle , which is the first tool in building the mindset . So let's talk through the five steps , the five growth strategy steps .
I have a free growth cheat sheet that outlines this as well .
¶ Business Growth Strategies and Execution
The first one is awareness , and when you're thinking about awareness of what you're doing , I encourage you to obviously get an online space . We're mostly talking to course creators here . But how are we getting awareness ? And you can even do some awareness in the offline , in the real world .
Like you and I met at an event in real life , like how crazy , is that right ? So we met in real life and we established this relationship . So awareness and I encourage people to have five to 10 different ways you're getting awareness . Some of them might be organic .
Some of them are hopefully paid , because if you're , if you're paying for some of the awareness , you oftentimes can measure your results . So I always encourage people out of your awareness . That's step number one a growing business . Five to 10 different activities .
More than half of them have some paid component to it and half can be organic , because if you're paying there , there should be a way to measure your results , and then you , if you're measuring , you can dial in and you can tweak . So , step one five to 10 things , ways , different ways you're getting awareness to your business , 50% of them being paid .
The second one is how are you building trust ? And trust is going to be , as you know , we're here on long form content . So this is going to be your podcast , your YouTube . You're speaking , you're writing articles . How are you becoming a thought leader ?
How are you telling people that you are the best of the best in this industry and you know what you're doing ? So that's number two is how are you building trust ? So awareness , you're going to have five to 10 trust . You might only have one or two ways that you're building trust , but it needs to be there . You don't want to skip over that trust building .
You want to become that thought leader in some capacity . You can pick any YouTube , podcast , blog , speaking , writing articles and submitting them , any of those sort of things . Build yourself as a thought leader . Then that brings us to acquisition , one of my favorite topics . Here we're talking to online entrepreneurs .
How are you getting people's contact information , their emails , their phone numbers ? Are you their DM ? You know having conversations and DMs . There's really only three ways that you are getting that . You're acquiring people's contact information , which is the emails , the phone calls or the DMs . How are you getting that ? Is it going to be an opt in form ?
Are you organically reaching out ? Are you doing a DM strategy campaign where you're getting it right , like , what are you using ? Are you using AI or using things like Manichat , things like that . What are you using to acquire Right ? That's step number three . Step number four is your conversion .
And are you monitoring your metrics of conversion out of the contacts that you have acquired , the emails or phone numbers out of those people ? Are you measuring that every single week , every week ? Do you know exactly ? I have a meeting every Monday with my team and they report how many people , how many new contact information did we acquire over the last week .
Then we study that and we see how many did we convert . Now , if we're talking to course creators that are going through big launch periods where we are kind of quiet , we're list building and we're doing things in between the launches .
We may not have the conversions every single week , but we definitely want to be watching that growth of our list , building that acquisition every single week and we want to keep dialing and dialing in that awareness and that trust to be list building , building that email list and building our community every week better than the last week , keep working on it better
, better , better , better , because that's what's going to allow us to have that big conversion event If we're only launching maybe two to four times a year . So I really encourage people to be monitoring metrics . You have a spreadsheet tracker . I'm old school , I just build stuff on Excel .
There's no fancy AI , there's no fancy dashboard , it's just a spreadsheet tool that we're looking at the awareness what different activities are we doing every week ? The trust , the acquisition , the conversion , and here are the biggies . This is the one that a lot of people overlook and neglect in the online space , especially when we're talking about course creators .
People growing from five to six figures or upper six figures is the retention . The way to build a business in any industry , and this is hands down . If you do not have a retention plan for your clients , customers , patients , depending on what your industry is , you will hit a massive roadblock of growth in your business .
You have to have a way to then take the people that you work so hard to get their awareness , get their trust , get their acquisition they finally converted . To get their awareness , get their trust , get their acquisition they finally converted . You have to carry them on to another product , another service , something else that can help them along their journey .
It could be yours , you could partner with somebody else in an affiliate relationship if you don't want to develop something your own . But there has to be a way If there is not .
There's one takeaway from this episode If you do not have a retention plan to convert more than 50% or 60% of people in your product , service program course , you have to carry those people forward into the next thing . It could be a membership or it could be a collaboration with somebody else . You have to .
And then you continue to rinse and repeat , so you're constantly looking at those metrics and building along the way . And then , lastly , you build an entire community of raving fans because they're getting amazing outcomes from working with your program .
They're getting great outcomes , they're sharing you're in , no matter what economy you're in , and you can continue to change your awareness strategies . Beta test everything . You beta test for 30 , 60 , or 90 days . Everything is a beta test , whether it's a paid or whether it's organic awareness , and you're looking 30 , 60 , 90 days .
If you're not seeing enough traction , scrap it , replace it with something else Because , as we talked about in the last episode , every 90 days , 20% of your calendar is going to change and you're going to re-optimize .
You ever heard of that phrase drinking from a fire hose ? Right , I think I just heard the secrets to any business success , and they all were in less than five minutes . Yeah , yes , yes One thing I was looking and I didn't see the link to that spreadsheet . What is that link ? So I can make sure to have that linked up in the show notes below .
Oh , definitely We'll send it . That is our growth , my business growth cheat sheet . So I will make sure to get you that link so that your listeners can download that business growth cheat sheet that has those steps and the recommendations of how I recommend to track those steps and growth .
If you're looking at those metrics every week , you will be insulated because you'll continue to fix and dial in and tweak what you're not seeing results in .
I love it . And then you were basically saying five key business growth steps awareness building , trust acquisition , focusing on how we're getting people's contact info , email , phone numbers , dms , conversion , like monitoring the conversion metrics , and I missed number five .
Retention Ah perfect , I wrote it down . I didn't miss it . I just didn't give it a number five retention , ah perfect , I wrote it down .
I didn't miss it , I just didn't give it a number five , so let me like the most important one of them all I wrote that down too , wow , okay , so I'm taking these after I've spent some time on mindset two , telling myself and really , I guess , coming into that understanding that I am a leader , even if I'm only leading myself .
I am leading myself and my team and the industry . Eventually , what's the last thing you want to leave somebody with on this episode ?
The last thing I want to leave is that you could definitely do it . You're not alone . There is a solution there . If you're struggling with something , it's a matter of looking for the who's . Who has the answer ? Is it a coach ? Is it a collaborator ?
Is it a team member that you're going to hire that's going to execute something for you and free up your time ? You 1000% have the skills to deliver to your community and crush it and kill it and blow up your business . The answer is always in the who are you surrounding yourself with ?
Who are you listening to Hopefully your podcast and learning all these tools for the online business owner , and who are you studying from ? Who are you collaborating with and who are you bringing on your team to lighten up so that you can focus on the business strategy that really counts .
I promise , if you think about things in that way strategy that really counts . I promise , if you think about things in that way , then you can 100% .
take your business to the next level . Sweet so , casey , I know you have become a who now for the person who is listening right now . Where can they listen to more of you following this episode ?

Shoot me a DM . I would love to connect . I'm writing a book , so I would love for you to be part of that process .
I'm inviting my a lot of my community into the book as it's developing . It will be coming out in 2025 , all about advancing your business and your mindset , becoming a stronger leader at any stage that you're in .
