Good morning. It is Thursday, June 5th. Current time, 6.06 a.m. How was your drive to work, Daryl? Wet. and sloppy. I must say, very wet, very sloppy. I actually even hydroplane for the first time in I don't know how long. What?

You got that much rain? We got that. It's trapping in the, or it's puddling in the troughs. Yeah, like I said, it actually surprised me. I cruised along at my normal speed, you know, which is speed limit, just so you know, speed limit. And yeah, I hit a deep spot and said, ooh. I'm just like, oh, hydroplaning. Okay, add that to the report.

There you go. Be careful driving. Well, it is pretty wet out here in Palmer, too. I got up this morning, and I was looking out the window. I mean, I got up at 1 o'clock this morning, too, and I was looking out the window, and it was... It was pretty wet. It's good. My lawn really needs it, so I'm not going to complain about it. It looks like it's going to be pretty rainy the next few days. So you know what the funniest part about all that is? With absolutely no facetiousness, no nothing.

You literally said at one o'clock in the morning, I looked out my window at my yard. Yeah. And you had, well, see, but the thing is, is we're in June. So we all know that it's, it's light out pretty much. You're going to be able to look out your window at your yard.

Most people can't say they looked out at the yard and decided something because it's too dark. Here in Alaska, it's one o'clock in the morning. I looked out at my yard and decided this needed to happen. You know. I did. I looked out. I saw the rain. I saw the streets were all...

wet i was like oh it's you know so it it definitely rained it's funny that alaskans we totally look at it as yeah it's one o'clock in the morning i'm looking outside they're just looking around you know oh you know get up for a glass of water and decide oh yeah okay it's still

It was still raining out there. And then, you know, this morning before the show starts, I go, you know, let the dog out. And it was still raining out there. Did George tuck himself away? What's that? Has George tucked himself away?

You know, George was actually up working, so I had to sit at home. So it's not raining. Okay. Not that hard anymore, no. Yeah, George was – he came up over the hill and he had his little headlights on. I could still see him out there working this morning. Just out of curiosity, are you –

helping George be fire-wise? Are you going to attach a little spigot on top of him so he can drive around the yard with a hose and spray things down just in case? No, I am not. No, I am not. I'm still thinking about putting a little... Putting a little ornament on top of him. We've got to get some kind of a gnome. I hadn't even thought about it. A garden gnome. I've been saying a lawn jockey. Forget that. Put a garden gnome on him, man.

I don't know. I was thinking about blowing up a face of Judy Elledge and taping it on there with a little popsicle stick. It looks like Judy is riding George. That would be awesome. And sending her a picture. I thought it would be hilarious. She's giving me a little bit of guff about having a lawn robot. And I thought, you know...

I had no idea auto mowers were a thing until last year. And then I thought, well, I need to get one. I need to get one. And it's been fantastic. What about a short, but, you know. properly sized gigantic epithecus, you know, like a shadow one, so that when people look out at either yard, they see Sasquatch rolling around in the distance. It's like, I saw him, I swear, he was moving. Yeah, that would be fun too. Yeah, that one just came.

There are so many options. We should have rotational George accoutrements. That's exactly what you need. That's it. Oh, man. Well, it is Thursday, and as the week comes to a close, it looks like there's not a... a ton of meetings for local governments. There are a few but not a ton.

So as I'm looking around today in the Mat-Su borough, the Library Citizens Advisory Committee that was scheduled for tonight has been canceled. Central Mat-Su Fire Service Area Board number 130 has also been canceled tonight. But the West Lakes Fire Service Area Board of Supervisors does have a meeting. It's going to be at the West Lakes Fire Station 73 tonight at 6 p.m.

There's also a Big Lake Road Service Area Board of Supervisors meeting. It's Road Service Area Board number 21. They will be meeting at 630 at the Big Lake Lions Club. Then also tonight there's Caswell Lakes Road Service Area Board of Supervisors. They will be meeting at 630 tonight as well. They'll meet at Sheep Creek Lodge. So if you need more information on any of the meetings in the MATSU borough today, just go to... matsugov.us and you'll be able to find it there.

As far as the city of Wasilla goes, there's nothing on their calendar for public meetings. Don't forget, every weekend in June, free music in the park. And that is over at the Idea Park Wonderland Park area off of Nelson Avenue. It's going to be every Saturday. from 3 to 9 p.m. They will have live music vendors, food trucks, kids activities.

And a beer garden for those that are over the age of 21. So that will be every Saturday in June. And it will be on Friday, July 4th as well. So lots going on in the city of West Silla this summer. Thank you. um we'll skip on over there's nothing on the calendar today for the city of palmer so we'll skip on over to the municipality of anchorage one of daryl's favorite boards the anchorage child care and early education

ICCE fund board meeting is happening this morning at 1015. That's a hybrid meeting. They have an online link and they also have a in-person location, which is the Mayor's Conference Room on the 8th floor of City Hall. And hopefully maybe we'll get some recording of this one so I can actually hear what goes on at some of these things.

Yeah, Daryl was annoyed because after the last meeting he tried to listen to the recording and there wasn't one posted. Yeah, just kind of miraculously amazing. Mm-hmm. The Municipal Airport Advisory Commission also has a board meeting today at noon. They meet at the Anchorage Fire Training Center off of Airport Heights, Building C, Room 9. AMAT, the Transportation Committee, has a technical advisory committee meeting today.

At 1 o'clock at the Community Development Center, that's the Elmore location, 4700 Elmore Road in the Training Center. That'll be at 1. And as far as the Anchorage Assembly goes, for today, June 5th, they have a Community and Economic Development Committee meeting at 9 a.m., followed by a work session at 1.30.

The Economic Community Development Meeting, I should tell you, is over at the Elmore location, 4700 Elmore. It's in the training room. And then the work session this afternoon is confirmation hearing for Mark Spafford, Director of the Anchorage Hydropower Utility. That's going to be at 1.30. So those are the only two meetings that are today. If you need more information on either of those two meetings, just go to muni.org and then click on the Assembly tab. You'll find it there.

We're going to skip on down to the city of Kenai because there's nothing on the borough's website today. The city of Kenai, though, there's a park and rec commission work session tour. They're going to tour the rec facilities today. The tour begins at 6 p.m. at the Kenai City Hall, located at 210 Fidalgo Avenue in Kenai, and then it will proceed to the Kenai Rec Center from 615 to 645.

and then the multi-purpose facility off of the Kenai Spur Highway from 7 to 7.30 p.m. The public, of course, is invited to attend. The tour provides an opportunity to view the city's facilities. Learn more about their operations and services. Members of the Park and Rec Commission may be in attendance. However, they will not be taking any official action.

So if you want more information on that, you can just go to Kenai.city, look at the calendar, click on links, and it will bring you to all the information. And that really does it for our... Announcements for this morning. There's really not a lot. It's getting kind of light. I think we're in the summer mode. We're towards the end of the week. Everybody's kind of winding down a little bit.

But I do encourage people to look at their local government web pages from time to time. It really gives you an idea of what your local officials are working on. It's just a great source of information. All right, we're going to go ahead and take our first break of the day. Then we will come back with your phone calls, and we will also start getting into the headlines of the day. If you'd like to call in, be part of the show, 522-0650.

Looking at your Alaska total traffic cameras on this Thursday morning. There is lots of rain all around the Anchorage Bowl and inbound to Anchorage. So get ready for it. Lots of water waiting over a year. and their weight. Sponsor a child with compassion today. Just text the word radio to 83393. Rain showers gradually come to an end today across South Central with some late day sunshine looking possible. We'll see those temperatures today warming into the...

upper 40s and lower 50s, with a warming trend taking hold into the weekend. For Alaska's weather source, I'm meteorologist Aaron Morrison. Amy Demboski. 628 Mornings on News Radio 650 KENI. Call now, 907-522-0650. Welcome back, Current Time 620. On this Thursday morning, we're going to go straight to the phones. And Randy is with us. Good morning, Randy. Good morning, Ms. Sunjana and Daryl.

Guys, a joke and then a little announcement, if possible. Oh, absolutely. All right, hit me with a joke. I love jokes. What does... pigs use to clean their feet what do pigs use to clean their feet i don't know what ham sanitizer You got the clapping because of the pun there. That was a real ham sanitizer. That's a good pun. I might steal that. That's a Daryl joke right there. Yeah, I know. I love it. All right. What's your announcement for this morning? Well, you know, you talked about.

You, your representative can't be told how good she is. Yes. My representative, George Roucher, she's very good. But today is a special day for him because it's his birthday. It's his birthday today. Happy birthday, Representative George Rauscher. I like George. I saw him on Sunday at the Captain Cook and at the Energy Roundtable, and we visited for just a couple of minutes.

couple of minutes and he is just he is just a gem he is such a good guy I really like George Rauscher he's a little radio shy but you know he's been on my show before I've got my old show I got him to come in and he's not he's really one of those out outwardly super you know extroverted guys, but he is solid. I love George Rauscher. He's such a good guy. Oh, and today's his birthday. Well, I'll have to send him a happy birthday text, too. But a special happy birthday to Representative Rauscher.

He's very good, and I think he deserves your vote this coming November. Absolutely. Well, I appreciate it. Thank you so much for the call this morning, Randy. I appreciate the announcement. Have a great day. All right. All right, bye-bye. All right, let's go to Kurt. Good morning, sir. Good morning. Can you hear me okay? Yes, sir. What's on your mind this morning? Generators. Ah.

We're going to get one put in, and I remember a few months ago you were real happy with who you used. And we're going to get a few quotes, but... I thought I remembered the name correctly, but I must not have because I couldn't find them online. Who did you get your generator from? Alaska Motorsports and Equipment.

I actually, so they're like a subsidiary, I think, of Alaska Mining and Diving. But I'm going to give you a phone number. And I get paid nothing for this. But I will tell you, when I did mine, I got a few quotes. And they beat other people.

by like... few thousand dollars and so I you know I was but I've been very happy with their service they came out they installed if they were sensational they've come out and they've helped us with a whole bunch of stuff but okay the guy that I use all the time He is fantastic. His name is Brad Helwig, and his phone number is 907-272-2412. 2412. Yeah, and just let them know that, you know, I gave a recommendation. I don't know if that will help at all, but it won't hurt.

Yeah, yeah, I know. But Alaska Motorsports and Equipment is the name of the company. They're right there off of Post Road, right next door to the Alaska mining industry, or off of commercial, rather. They're right there next door. to Alaska mining and diving. Okay, yeah, I haven't been to Anchorage in a while, but I used to pop into Alaska mining now and then. And also, I was told to ask you about George.

Ah, yeah. So I didn't even know this was a thing. So when I was buying the generator last year, when I went in to pay for it, You know, I'm looking over at their showroom floor, you know, because, you know, I like toys sometimes, you know, six-wheelers, four-wheelers, that kind of stuff. And I'm just looking over, and I see this thing over there, and it's an auto motor made by Husqvarney. And I look at this thing, I didn't know what it was at first, and I'm like, what is that?

And he's like, oh, these are fantastic. He's like, it's an auto mower. He's like, it's basically a Roomba for your lawn. It's an electric lawn mower. It's super silent. It's very quiet. And it doesn't. Socks itself, so when it starts to get low on battery. So what they come out and do is they basically lay a line around your property or wherever you want mowed.

then it has smart technology in it where it will basically, it takes a few days for it to completely map your yard. So if you have flower beds or boulders or rocks or trees, it learns where they are and it has sensors. kind of go around them. And then as it starts to get low on battery, it goes back and it docks itself and it charges and then it goes back out. And you can set the hours on it. There's an app on my phone so I can watch George. Okay, where's George at?

And then there's technology on it, too, where it geofences. So there's anti-theft technology on it, too, where if somebody picks it up, it automatically shuts down and there's a passcode where you have to turn it on, you know, turn it back on. and it has an alarm on it, so if it goes outside of the geofence area, it'll send you a text. If it gets stuck, for example, if he's in an area and something happens and he gets stuck, he'll send you a text and he'll say, you know,

you know, basically I'm stuck. But it's pretty cool. So we've had it now for about... Six weeks, and he has done a fantastic job. I mean, we haven't had to really touch the yard. My husband's gone out and weed whacked a couple little areas yesterday, but the yard looks spectacular. And it's, who would have thought, a Roomba, basically, for your lawn.

I would have never thought of it. But apparently they've had these things in Europe for like 25 years. I didn't know that. But Brad, the guy that I got my generator from, told me he's had one at his yard for about five years. He loved it. So I got it for my husband for a Christmas present.

Because he's working on the slope now, so he's two weeks on and two weeks off. And I thought, I don't know if the present's more for Ben or more for me, because I don't have to mow the lawn now. So that's really great. Technology. What are you going to do, Kurt? Technology. No kidding. All righty. Well, thank you so much for your help, Amy. You're welcome, sir. Thanks for calling this morning.

Yeah, I get paid nothing by plugging these things. But when I find a good company, they're fantastic. And they came out, and they're the ones that installed George, too. And Brad comes out, and, you know. If we had any issues, anything at all, like we even had something happen in our house, and my husband's like, hey, he called Brad real quick. He's like, hey, who's the electrician that you used?

And the guy came out, and he's just like, oh, no, I'll just swing by on my way home. Came back and fixed something else in our house. It was fantastic. I've got to tell you, the customer service at Alaska Mining and Diving and Alaska Motorsports,

Just, I mean, it's unbelievable, really. Their customer service is fantastic, and I get paid nothing by telling you that. I've just been very thrilled. And in our house, like I said, when we came for our generator, we had other companies come out and they were trying to tell us you have to do this and lay this extra you know line and do this and move this and and these guys came out and they're like no you don't and i mean they ended up saving me a few thousand extra dollars

And to me, I was just like, the customer service is on point. They were competitive in the cost, exact same generator. I have a Generac. That's the type of natural gas generator that I have. And I don't remember the specs on it. If I ask my husband, he'll know. But I got to tell you, you know, when somebody drives up to my house, I just, you know, look, I might live in a little bit of a swanky neighborhood now.

You know, I'm not one of the doctors or pilots on the street. Let's put it that way. So wait, are you saying that your street has, instead of streetlights, like chandeliers that hang over the streets? That swanky neighborhood thing?

Oh, not quite. Not quite. But my neighbors, let's just say, are pretty accomplished folks. And I laugh because I'm like, I'm a... blue collar type worker let's put it that way you're a willow billy hang in that area yeah but i i just hate it when people walk in and they just assume like oh you know like oh these people can pay and i feel like i kind of got screwed over by a couple of the quotes i got and then you know a lot

Alaska Motorsports comes in and they're like, nope, this is what it's going to cost. And look, anytime you're going to save me money and it's the exact same product, I'm going to go with you. And then now I trust you. You know, one of the reasons that motorsport and mainly Alaska mining and diving has such. Great customer service. Now, I've learned this over the past because I listen. Employee owns. Exactly.

That is exactly it. So I listen on our station. We have that little podcast that comes on. I love that podcast. And it used to be with Murph. It was great then. With Crash, it's even more fun now because Crash doesn't know all the stuff, so he really gets to explain it. Like I said, I've learned.

so much from that show that that's the Alaska mining and diving show and tied in like I said with the motorsport with Nick exactly so another reason to listen right here to Valley another reason to listen to Katie and I Well, I will tell you, you know, I listen to that. I forget the name of the show that they call it, but... See, Daryl and I are both having a blank. We're just into our first cup of coffee, so what can you say? But I listen to the Alaska Mining and Diving show with Crash.

I will tell you, like, I like four-wheeling and six-wheeling. You know, we go out. We're hunters. I'm not really a boat person. You know, I tend to get very seasick. I don't go out fishing often, but they kind of have something for everyone, and I had no idea they did generators. You would never think, like, Alaska Motorsports and Equipment. In my mind, I didn't even think that they did generators. And they do. Outdoor Living and Recreation Show.

That's it. But it's a great show. I mean, I don't know that females are their demographic, but I really enjoy listening to that show. It's not very long. I think it's like a half an hour. It's a pretty quick podcast. It's not very long. They play it on the radio, too. Obviously, that's where I listen to it.

You know, I've caught it a number of times in the car on my way home from work or whatever. And it's just, it's entertaining. I just, I don't know, it's an Alaska show. It's a very Alaskan show. So it's been entertaining to listen to. But that's where, you know, I started. listening to them and I start listening to some of the different deals and the snow machines, four wheelers, six wheelers, boats. I mean, they have all of it, but who would have thunk? Who would have thunk?

They have generators and auto mowers. I mean, the diversity of products that they have, it really just surprised me. And I'm not a big, I'm not your typical chick. I don't like to go shopping. You know, I'm very mission focused. I go to the store when I need something, and I'm like, okay, I need this. You know, but I just, I don't really like shopping, but I kind of do like toys.

Yeah, that's the difference in Trump. That's like getting the JCPenney's catalog or the Sears catalog and your choice is to look through... dress, you know, window dressings and stuff or toys and, you know, power tools. Yeah. Yeah, they love me out here at the Polaris because, you know, when I walk into Polaris, they're like, Amy's here. She's going to buy a four-wheeler.

It's not unusual. The last four-wheeler I bought, this is so bad. This is so bad. This is where you hear it. The last four-wheeler I bought, I was with my dad, and my dad was buying a four-wheeler, you know, or we were looking at it, and I walked in, and I was like, Ooh, look at that pretty ruby one. Oh, I like the color, so I bought it. And then I talked to my dad.

my dad and then my dad bought one we bought the same one he bought a green one but i bought i bought a pretty sparkly ruby one you know like a deep burgundy your dad i still have it your dad should have got the burgundy one too that way you could tap each other on the roads and it would have been you know click there's no place like home

Exactly. There's no place like home. Put the four-wheelers together, there's no place like home. I know. My husband's trying to get me to buy side-by-side now, and I'm like, dude, you have a six-wheeler. And my four-wheeler has so low miles on it because I have it. I'm so busy. I haven't been out in years.

And he's like, hey, we should just go look. And I'm like, you do not bring me in one of those stores and just say go look. And he knows it. I guarantee we're going to walk out with something. So, you know, what can I say? I don't shop often, but when I do. Boy, do I make a dent. All right, let's go ahead and take a quick break. If you'd like to call into the show, 522-0650. This is News Radio 650, KENI.

Anchorage. Two people are dead following a helicopter crash on Alaska's North Slope. The NTSB says the deadly crash appears to have happened late yesterday morning near Dead Horse. Officials say the helicopter was part of a North Slope Borough search team looking for a missing aircraft. Further details were not

Nearly two dozen dogs are in protective custody amid an animal cruelty investigation in Wasilla. Alaska state troopers say they seized 21 dogs from a Wasilla home yesterday. The dogs were transferred to Matsuburo Animal Care. Police are investigating possible animal cruelty charges.

Matt Sue Animal Care says the animals are all in good health. And a second extension of Juneau's Mendenhall River levee won't happen until after the current flood season. The Juneau Assembly voted this week to delay the extension. Assemblymember Greg Smith said we don't seem to have a way to fund...

this fairly this year. The Assembly said it's up to the city to come up with a plan to pay for a second extension before taking up the issue for next year's flood season. That's the latest. I'm John Fink. News Radio 650 KENI, your pipeline to the world. Look at your laugh. 75220650. That's 9075220650. It's Amy Demboski on NewsRadio 650. KENI. Welcome back. Current time 639 on this Thursday morning. It's a little dreary out there. It's a little rainy.

And we anticipate for South Central anyway for it to be so through the weekend. It looks like we're going to kind of have rain for the next few days. So it'll green everything up, which is great. And then I'm ready for the sunshine. Bring it on. Bring on the sunshine. You don't have the advantage with George out there. I still look at it as I'd like maybe two days of rain, then give me some sun to dry it out so I can mow it, and then more, because otherwise the rain, rain, rain, it just...

It messes with the texture of my lawn. No, I get that. I get that. And George has a feature on it where if the weather gets too bad, he has a sensor, so he'll just go back and self-doc. But if it's just like a light sprinkle, he just keeps working away. And they say the blades on them, you only have to...

change them once a season oh wow that's actually gonna be a question i had because sharpening i have to sharpen blades on my mower at least once a season yeah so they have they have these little tiny blades on them i don't know they kind of look like razors but they're bigger and um yeah So I'm guessing when we go to winterize it, when it's wintertime, you unplug him and put him in the garage. He's about, I don't know, he's about three feet.

So everybody who's out there listening, this is radio. Amy is using her hands to give a measurement, just so you know. But I said three feet. I did say three feet. He's about... Yeah, I'm trying to decide what two feet is. Yeah, he's definitely bigger than that. He's about three feet. He's not small. He's pretty big. And he has like a swivel, an axle in the middle, so he can manipulate and he can move.

pretty well that's the word I'm going for yeah so he can articulate pretty well and he's like I said he's been doing pretty well I stopped the other day because we had a windstorm out here in Palmer And we had quite a few leaves on our front yard, big leaves, not just like little tiny leaves. You know, you get branches and debris and stuff. Yeah, and they had kind of gotten wound up a little bit in his wheels.

going just fine not issue is just my OCD was kicking in and I was like okay that's irritating me because they're sticking to him and so I went out and I and I cleaned off his wheels and there's a technology on him where if you lift it he automatically shuts down like he turns off on the bottom

Yeah, he turns off and you have to actually punch in a security code to re-engage him. Like I told you, it's a very smart technology. AI these days, we were talking about this the other day, AI is in everything now. AI is in... Everything. And technology is crazy. But, no, so I had to, you know, it was the first time I had to. And there's a manual stop on him, too. So if something's happening, you don't have to use the app on your phone. You can go over to him and pop this button and hit stop.

stop and he'll stop and then you can punch in your security code and make him re-go but yeah it was like it was it was pretty user friendly yeah I didn't really have much of an issue so when you wanted to clean him out just out of curiosity did you run up to him and say leave him alone

I did not. I did not. I did not. I was sitting in on my, I was, I was on the porch. I was looking out the window and I saw leaves stuck to him. And I was like, that's annoying me. And, you know, Amy's OCD kicked in. And so I thought. So I sent him a message on my phone. You know, I just opened my app. I said, hit pause. So he stopped right in the middle of the yard where he was at. So you didn't have to chase him down? No. And so I went down and I just cleaned up the leaves.

You know, if you jiggle him, he just shuts down. And like I said, it's geofenced and everything. So if anybody tries to, like, snag him, you know, there's an alarm that goes off. And, you know. I can track him, basically. So there you go. There you go. And I think for extra double, I mean, you could put an app, you know, like an Apple iPod.

I'd tag on him if you wanted to, I guess, too. But, yeah, but it's pretty cool. I mean, technology. What do they think of next, Daryl? I feel like we're living in the era of the Jetsons. I absolutely thought that the other day. between a couple of different things that were going on. But what are they thinking of next?

It's robotic kitchens. They're literally going to be where you just walk into your kitchen or just type it on your phone, I want this for dinner, and it's going to... Bring it on. And bring it out. Bring it on. Bring it on. Well, we do have some breaking news. I want to just...

hit this right now because this is going to be all over the headlines today. The Supreme Court has come out with a new decision. This morning it is announced Supreme Court sides with a straight woman in reverse discrimination case. The court said members of the majority group

don't face an extra hurdle when alleging reverse discrimination in the workplace. It's always fascinating to me when I hear people say white people or straight people can't be discriminated against. Of course they can. Of course they can. You know, and the civil rights, the law covers all Americans.

Not just certain groups. It covers all Americans, right? Everybody falls into a group. You're either male or you're female. You're white, you're Hispanic, you're black, you're whatever you are. You know, there's multiple, obviously, categories. there you know but the Supreme Court according to USA Today has agreed

that a worker faced a higher hurdle to sue her employer as a straight woman than if she'd been gay. The unanimous decision, this is unusual, the unanimous decision landed amid a national backlash against DEI.

which could trigger a wave of reverse discrimination lawsuits. The justices rejected a lower court's ruling that Marlene Ames could not sue the Ohio Department of Youth Services because she failed to provide background circumstances, showing the department was that unusual employer who discriminates against the majority.

That's a test that created in 1981 by a federal appeals court used by some, but not most, of the federal courts when assessing claims brought under the Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The U.S. Court of Appeals for D.C. Circuit said... 1981 that while white people are covered by the Silver Rights Act, it defied common sense to suggest the promotion of black employees justifies an interference of prejudice against white co-workers in our present society.

So let's break that down. What are we really saying? What are we really saying is when we have quotas and we give somebody preferential treatment because of the color of their skin, i.e. everybody except white people, that

that in fact is discrimination and if you have a white employee or now these days a straight employee who says wait a second you know i'm more qualified than this person but they got the promotion because they're gay because they're black because they're a pick your pick your minority status That is, it's not fair. Not only is it not fair, it's discriminatory against white people, against straight people.

etc etc and the supreme court has agreed that you cannot have a separate hurdle for employees to sue you know, for equal protection simply because they're straight, simply because they're white. The civil rights law covers everybody. So again, to me, this is common sense. I think reverse discrimination absolutely happens. Why do we call it reverse discrimination? Because there's some people out there that just simply think you can't discriminate against somebody because they're straight.

You can't discriminate against somebody because they're white. And what have we seen in the last 10 years? It certainly happens. So preferential treatment is, in fact. is, in fact, discrimination when it comes to if you're picking somebody because of the color of the skin or because of their sexual orientation. You know, again, this goes back to why I believe in meritocracy. I don't care if you're white, brown, purple, pink. I don't care.

I don't care if you're gay or straight. I don't care. I want to hire the best person for the job because, you know, they deserve it, frankly. you hire the best person for the job period and if you're discriminating against them because they're straight yep that's a problem and no you can't have a separate bar

for them to be able to sue to say they've been discriminated against. That's basically in a nutshell what the Supreme Court has come down with. It says right here, the law itself which man's discrimination based on race color religion sex or national origin doesn't set different thresholds for members of minority and majority groups duh

I mean, this is just very common sense. So this court, this hearing, or this decision rather from the U.S. Supreme Court just landed this morning. And the last...

three minutes, it started hitting the headlines. So you're going to hear a lot of discussion about this. And you're going to see a lot of pundits on MSNBC lose their ever-loving minds because of it. But I think it's a very bright... When you have... katanji brown jackson and sonia sotomayor agreeing with the majority on the court i gotta tell you there's really no leg to stand on like some of this is surprising to me but i think it's common sense

All right, let's go ahead and take a quick break. If you'd like to call in, be part of the show, 522-0650. Looking at your Alaska total traffic cameras on this Thursday morning. Waits for a sponsor is another day of hopelessness. There are thousands of kids who've been waiting over a year.

Rain showers gradually come to an end today across South Central with some late day sunshine looking possible. We'll see those temperatures today warming into the upper 40s and lower 50s, with a warming trend taking hold into the weekend. For Alaska's weather source, I'm meteorologist Aaron Morrison. Now back to the boss, Amy Demboski.

Call 907-522-0650 and be a part of the show on News Radio 650, KENI. Welcome back, Current Time. 6.53. I'm just going through the Supreme Court. They've released about six cases this morning. So I'm just quickly reviewing some of these cases to see if any of them are interesting. There's another interesting one I'll talk about in just a second. Oh, Larry, hang on.

Okay, so we will talk about it now. So right now, there's also another court decision that came out this morning effectively saying that Mexico cannot... sue gun manufacturers for cartel crimes, effectively. That's what we have. Smith & Wesson Brands versus Estados Unidos Mexicanos. Here's the case. It says... Um...

The government of Mexico sued seven American gun manufacturers, alleging that the companies aided and abetted unlawful gun sales that routed firearms to Mexican drug cartels. The basic theory of the suit is that the defendants failed to exercise. reasonable care to prevent trafficking of their guns into Mexico and are so responsible for the harms arising from the weapons misuse. It was held by the court.

Because Mexico's complaint does not plausibly allege that the defendant gun manufacturers aided and abetted gun dealers on lawful sales of firearms to Mexican traffickers, PLCAA bars the lawsuit. So there's a couple different sections here. Of course, this is my first read, and I'm kind of doing it live here. But there's a couple different metrics here that the Supreme Court used. They looked at the federal aiding and abetting law.

And they say it reflects that a person may be responsible for a crime he has not personally carried out if he deliberately helps another complete its commission to aid and abet. a crime a person must take affirmative act in the furtherance of the offense and intend to facilitate its commission So, obviously, you have to show that they participated in the crime, and it was as in something that he wishes to bring about, seek by his action to make it succeed. So, clearly, they didn't fulfill that.

The court has held no, that does not. It says against the backdrop of the law, Mexico's complaint does not plausibly allege that the defendant manufacturers aided and abetted gun dealers' unlawful sales to firearms to Mexico traffic. So there's really a high bar that's set there. And it says Mexico's lead claim that the manufacturers elect to sell guns to, among others, known rogue dealers, fails to clear that bar.

For one thing, it's far from clear that such behavior without Moore could ever count as aiding and abetting under the court's precedent. So this is a decision that is coming out. Again, I'm just starting to read this particular decision. Clearly, the bottom line is the Supreme Court has held that no, Mexico cannot sue in American courts gun dealers here in the U.S. That is good.

Yeah, I think that's a good thing. But this is another one that I suspect will be talked about a lot today. If you'd like to call in, be part of the show, 522-0650. We'll be right back. Good morning, sir. Yeah, I just want to say apparently we have common sense on the Supreme Court.

The gun does not shoot the person. It takes a person to pull the trigger. Amen. I agree with that. And, you know, both of the decisions that I just talked about in the last segment. Both of them were unanimous by the court. So obviously, somebody must have fed those liberal justice some... some truth serum this morning or something. Well, I'm not going to hold out hope for Ketanji Brown-Jackson or Sotomayor. So we'll see. We'll see.

with these other decisions that come out. There's another one that we're expecting to come out soon. And we'll see. This isn't going to be the only one. There's about six decisions that were released this morning. Both of them, though, I think are good decisions thus far. As I've read them during the break, I think...

You know, the interesting thing with the Supreme Court, the decisions are always typically very narrow. They're answering a very specific legal question. But in both of these cases, I think that's good decisions. I think it's common sense decisions. I'm glad to see both of them come out, and I'm glad to see both of them are unanimous, because it really takes a lot of the argument away from some of these very liberal pundits that are going to lose their minds. I think both of these decisions...

are really going to be tough for the left to swallow, to be honest with you. Especially the radical lefties. Yeah. I think there was one where the... Supreme Court rejected a case where a guy was wearing a shirt, I think it was, there are only two genders, and I believe he was wearing a public school. Yeah, he was a junior high student. And, yeah. And some of my conservative friends, well, that's impeding on his right. I said, no, if it disrupts the ability of education, then, you know.

So, Mark, they didn't decide on that thing? And why, you know, if it disrupts the level of education, then... And that's the way I was looking at that, the guy wearing that shirt. So, Mark, just so you know, the Supreme Court decided not to decide on that case. They kicked it back on down there. And yet it was a twofold case. So first he wore a shirt that said there are only two genders.

Yeah. And it gave the male and female. And then he had a second shirt after that when they said he couldn't wear the first one. And it basically said the same thing, that there's not many genders. And so, yeah, they considered it threatening and stuff like that, which to me, I don't know. Where's his Second Amendment or his First Amendment rights? You know, doesn't he have the right to say those things? Well, he has a right to say it. It's just that...

He was in an environment where it could have been disruptive to the rest. It's in a school where you're learning things. There's only two genders. That's science. That's biology. That would be expected in a school as opposed to something like, say, maybe Black Lives Matter. Pride Month. None of these things actually, you know, they wear all those shirts. You know, it's interesting. I see your point there.

It's interesting when we talk about this case because this was a Massachusetts middle schooler. And I have an Ed Week discussion up here. But it's interesting because it says right here.

You know, obviously it's a political hot topic, but they say... they say him and his parents sued under the first amendment a federal district judge ruled for the school system analyzing the case under the supreme court's landmark 1969 decision tinker versus des moines independent community school district which up upheld the right of students to wear black armbands to protest the Vietnam War as long as school was not substantially disrupted.

That's the metric that Mark is using that, you know, it shouldn't be overly disruptive. Right. But in this particular case in the 60s, the court said, well, you can wear the black armbands as long as it's not overly disruptive. So, you know, that's what they're saying. They said the district judge cited Tinker's language allowing schools to restrict student speech that would invade the rights of others.

last June affirmed the ruling in favor of the administrators but grounded its decision in Tinker's substantial disruption test. So what about Free Free Palestine? And all these other protests, those have been substantial and nothing on it. Well, exactly. But again, so it shows a double standard where school administrators are allowing one type of speech, but not the other type of speech. I'm with Daryl on this one. I think people should be able to. I remember in school.

You know, sometimes kids would come to school and they'd have something, you know, maybe graphic or inappropriate on their shirt. And the teachers were, you know, the school administrators would make them go turn their T-shirt inside out. I had to put tape on mine. I had one that was a beautiful.

I went to California. I got this great T-shirt. It had California on it, a beach scene, and a very buxom young woman running across the beach with it. And they actually made me tape over the buxom young woman, which I never wore that shirt again because it was a lot of...

shame for that so yeah yeah yeah yeah so no we'll see what comes out of the rest of them good conversation though mark thanks for bringing up i appreciate it as always uh the supreme court has uh released a couple of opinions here this morning, the ones that we're already hearing some about. I mean, this is happening in the last 20 minutes. One is basically that, no, there can't be a separate standard for straight

people or white people who sue based on reverse discrimination. All Americans are covered by the Civil Rights Act and you can't have different standards for different people as to the bar for So that's one. That was a unanimous decision of the court. The other was no Mexico can't sue gun dealers or manufacturers here in the U.S. for cartel, you know, activities.

you have to show that they were knowingly involved in providing their product to people who are going to commit a crime. And, you know, obviously by having, you know, going to dealers, and if those dealers are engaged in something, They're saying, wait, that's not a definitive argument. So those are two that are coming out. They have a couple other decisions that are out that I haven't.

I haven't been able to get to yet. There's one that's probably going to be a little interesting. Catholic Charities Bureau, Inc. versus Wisconsin Labor and Industry Review Commission. It says the Wisconsin Supreme Court decision denying...

petitioner a tax exemption available to religious entities under Wisconsin law on the grounds that petitioners were not operated primarily for religious purposes because they neither engaged in personalization nor limited their charity services to Catholics who

violated the First Amendment. So again, it sounds like in that decision, the Supreme Court is saying if you're not really a religious entity, and that's not your primary, you know, for, you know, purpose you're probably not going to get the tax exemption so it you know these are ones that we have to just dig into to understand what the actual but these are just popping they're just popping i was just letting you know that larry was out there on the phone

Sorry, my phone's just reset, so I can't see anything. They went blank, so I can't see anything. So let's just do this. I'm going to take a quick commercial break because it's that time, and I'm going to reset my phones. If you're on hold, stay on hold. It's on my end.

Show now by calling 907-522-0650. Welcome back to Time 719. Let's go to the phones, and Larry is with us. Good morning, sir. Good morning, Amy. You triggered me with the reverse discrimination earlier before the top of the hour. Yeah. It's not reverse discrimination. It's discrimination. Thank you. 100%. I agree with you. I agree with you 100%.

I know you know that. And these people that are playing the victim card, it's very frustrating because you look, you know, it's like the DEI and the discrimination, you know, it's like, okay, what is theirs? 69, 70% of the populace describes themselves as white, and 13 or 14% describe themselves as black, and so forth. It's like...

Of course, there's more white people out there and they have more jobs. I mean, it seems like more jobs, but it's not. Anyway, that wasn't the direction I wanted to go. I wanted to say, well... First of all, your mower is going to become self-aware, and it's going to kill your family. And take over the world. No, I wouldn't get any exercise if it weren't for my two dogs. I have to walk at least twice a day, run, and mow my lawn.

So I've got to keep going the old-fashioned way, but I'm quite fascinated with your lawnmower. I wanted to say, you know, I'm 62, and there's a couple things that may be happening. I don't know if you remember my last name, but at least on DuckDuckGo and I think on Google, too, if somebody Googles my legal name that I've applied for a job, there's somebody else out there that is a...

registered sex offender. And it's not you. It's not you. And it's not me, and it caused me a problem when I was trying to be a... I did end up doing it, being a Cub Scout den leader when my son was young. Oh, yeah. And then what's happening now, at 62, you wouldn't believe I retired from real estate. And I liked it, but it was a bit stressful, a lot of hours, weekends, nights, everything. And I need to keep working until my wife decides to or can't work anymore.

And in the last, since late 2024, I have applied for dozens of jobs. Not out of my range. Not out of my range. And it's either this... sex predator thing, people mistaken identity, or I think it's age discrimination. I'm 62, but I'm very, very active. I can do more than what a lot of 40 year olds can do. But I think they see my birth date and they go, oh, you know, because a lot of 62-year-old guys aren't doing so well. And God bless them.

Yeah, no, Larry, it's funny you say because, yes, I do remember your last name. And as soon as I typed it into Google, as soon as I put your name and then I put Alaska. And the first thing that popped up is your beautiful picture right there. I can see real estate agent. My big fan. And then the second thing I see is criminal charges filed Alaska. And I get a hit. And so it's obviously.

you know i know i know who you are and i know you you know where you live and so i'm like okay so as you dig but i've had this issue with people so um when we when we i'm thinking about a particular person that came to the center and when they when they apply we we before we move them in we're doing criminal background checks now and I had somebody who's had a very common name and I had pages upon pages and you had to

and and you know the housing manager comes in and we're going through that through it and I'm like you have to look at the date of birth and the middle name was different and so we really had to do our homework to make sure we were getting the right person of course the person applying was

Totally squeaky clean. We didn't even find a parking ticket. But you've got to do your homework. And if people aren't digging past the initial top sheet, you're going to get screwed over. Yes. Exactly. And I think, you know.

Probably a lot of HR people may not be as thorough as you might have been, but it's a little frustrating because I have, I mean, dozens and probably... 40-plus jobs of a variety of things that I have experience in, things I did prior to real estate, and I've done many things, and it's a little frustrating.

So, oh, what else was I going to tell you? I don't remember. I had a joke. No, I didn't. But anyway, I appreciate the complexities of your show. I gave you a hard time about Daryl Rudd and everything, but you... You have a lot on your end to make the show flow naturally and take calls and look at the clock and reset your equipment. It's a hard thing, and you do a great job. I'm glad you're out there.

Well, thank you so much. You know, we try. I always laugh because I think about some of the pros that are out there that do radio, and it's just me and Daryl, right? And it goes the way it goes. And there's been times where the equipment goes down.

and I literally do a segment on my cell phone. I just call them, and we just make it work. See, but that's perseverance in a trooper right there. That is what it's all about. You just got to roll with it. Sometimes you got to be flexible, and things move fast in media, and sometimes you got to be flexible.

got to switch topics and that's why I try to read a lot I try to follow the news as much as I can so when somebody calls in with an interesting topic I at least know the basics of what they're talking about it is it you know I guess I never really appreciated it until I filled in a couple times on other friends' shows. And I realized, oh, my goodness, you really got to be prepared. And you got to be prepared for the technological things that happen, too. So I appreciate it.

you listening, and I appreciate the recognition that it is not always easy for everyone. It sounds easy. joke often that I'm very busy and I'm very important, but I'm not, and I listen to Clay and Buck after you, and they... screw up all the time. You're as good as any of them, if not better. You're doing a great job.

Well, thank you. You made my whole day. You made my entire day. I appreciate it. I whine a little bit, but I will not play the victim. You know, the thing about me not being able to get a job is... You know, I can whine and go, I'm a victim and all that. And people just need to drop using victimhood as a weapon and threatening people with lawsuits. and all this stuff. It just really makes me sick. Anyway, I'll let you guys go. Thank you very much for taking my call.

All right, Larry, thank you so much for the call. I appreciate that. You know, I will tell you, I've done HR for many, many years, and there's good HR people, and then there's people that just kind of check a box, and they just kind of go through the process, and I don't think. they're overly...

you know, detail-oriented, let's put it that way. I get frustrated, and I take it very personally when I miss something. And anybody who's interviewed with me knows I ask. I don't ask your standard. I don't have a spreadsheet. sheet in front of me and have the standard questions. Tell me about your greatest weakness. Because I'm pretty good at reading people. I tend to ask open-ended questions. This is just a fun side note.

In politics, whenever I'm hiring for an executive, i.e. governor, i.e. mayor, and it's a political position, when I did, for example, I was the one who did the Bronson transition. And everybody who applied with us, they had to provide us with not only their resume, but references that were absolutely checked and copies of their transcripts. Like I checked.

their colleges like they were I mean I had somebody bring in their diploma off their wall still framed and brought it into us and then I would say to them so we go through the process we'd actually check You know, you told me you went to Harvard. I want to see the transcript or diploma. I want to make sure. And so we go through this process with them. And I got to tell you, I mean, there's many conversations I've had with people.

that have had a couple DUIs or have had, you know, different issues. And one of my questions on political interviews it always gets this if you're somebody who's going to be appointed by an executive and it's going to be a public position i have always asked this question

It is because you have to be very careful the questions you ask. You can't ask somebody, are you married? Do you have kids? You can't ask those questions. My questions are always open-ended. Tell me about yourself because they will tell you far more than you ask.

But that's not the question. The question that I always love, my favorite question, this is a public appointment by the governor, by the mayor, etc., etc. this is going to be subject to confirmation by the legislature by the assembly whatever is there anything that I should know about the mayor should know about, the governor should know about, before your confirmation becomes public.

Is there anything that could be embarrassing if it comes out? I just opened up. Is there anything that you think I should know? And nine times out of ten, I always say, don't ask a question you don't already know the answer to. And, you know, if somebody's sitting down in front of me, I've already checked court view.

I've already checked your social media. I've already started to check, you know, because, again, I'm checking your references. I'm actually calling. And I found this before. People that have, the ones that always screw you are the ones that bypass your process, where the executive. does a direct hire and says, okay, I just hired this person and they didn't go through any of your screening, those are the ones that always bite you in the butt.

Always, always, always. And it's happened to me multiple times where I've been told, oh, I've hired this person. And they start. And then something tweaks me. And I'm like, this doesn't sound right. And I start looking. I have had people that have lied about. Their colleges didn't attend it. They claimed they had a degree. They didn't have a degree. I've had people, you know, I've had people.

This has happened to me. It's actually happened where it's not somebody I hired. It was somebody else. You know, again, it was an executive appointment where they claimed they were in the military and did all this stuff. didn't uh maybe they were in the military for two weeks and got washed out but you know i

This is why I say there has to be a formal, there has to be an HR process. And this is one of the biggest mistakes executives make is they bypass the process and they hire somebody just because they, oh, I met this guy. He's a good guy. Yeah, we're going to bring him on as so-and-so. And I'm like. Every single time I've seen an executive do that and skip the process, you ultimately find something out afterwards when you actually vet them, you know, just something.

pops in your brain, and you're like, this doesn't make sense. Wait a second. And I have a good BS detector, and so I tend to find that, and I'm like, mm. So, again, if you're somebody who's running for office, all I'm telling you is process. being thorough matter and so in a case like Larry's where Clearly, he has somebody who has a similar name to him. If you just do two seconds of digging, you'll realize it's not the same person. Check socials, check birthdates, check middle names.

Again, sometimes you have lazy people out there that, frankly, they don't have a vested interest in being super thorough, so they just kind of zip through it. And, of course, you could lose a really good candidate, right? All right. I digress. Let's go ahead and take a quick break. 522-0650. We do expect a special guest to be calling in in the next segment. So we're going to take a quick commercial break. We'll be right back.

And, frankly, the high-power folks that are coming in to surround you already, I mean, it sends a massive signal. How are you feeling as your team is shaping up?

You know what? The response that we have gotten from Alaskans has been so positive. It's been awesome. I mean, we knew we had support, obviously wouldn't have gotten in this race if we didn't think that we did. But the people reaching out from all levels, from industry, from the grassroots to the, you know, the emails and the social media messages and the requests for us to sit down and have meetings and conversations.

It really, and from all over the state, has really been incredible. I think Alaskans are hungry for bold leadership and they're ready to get going. They're tired of sitting dormant. And being told, you know, given a whole list of excuses as to why they can't get something done. They're ready to move forward. They're excited to move forward. And with the president in office and...

It looks like some promising energy projects coming online for Alaska. The electorate is ready to harness it. We're going to harness it, and we're going to run. And so, you know, the addition of... Brad Harreld and Ben Yoho, of course, very incredibly reputable names within the conservative circles. They've helped Governor DeSantis.

Black work for the president, been very close and tied. Those are two gentlemen that have a very strong record of electing bold conservatives in incredibly high-profile races. where Alaska would normally not be on someone's map. We were able to have conversations with them and then know and feel assured that, you know what, Bernadette's the one that's going to be able to get this job done. And so...

We are willing to help. In this instance, you know what? We're going to say yes. And so such an honor to have them on board. And we've got another announcement, Amy. We have our rally coming up on Sunday. And we have another announcement, a surprise announcement, coming on Sunday. So we are going to keep rolling these out. We are not slowing down. We're going to keep going. Alaska's got big issues in front of them. We're excited to tackle those issues.

And just keep on going. Fantastic. Well, tell me about this rally on Sunday. Sunday, 3 p.m.? Yep, doors will open at 2 p.m. So doors will open at 2 p.m. The program will start itself at 3 p.m. We will be over at Heath Montanoc's hangar over there off of Belonca Way. That information is up on our social media pages, the exact address for those who need it.

So Blanca Way, over there at the hangar, Keith Montanac has been an awesome supporter. So 2 p.m. doors will open. 3 p.m. the program will start. We will have the first... Bernadette for Governor swag will be out. The first buttons will be out. Special announcement made. And we will have some special signs that will only be handed out. this event and one other event during the course of this campaign.

Oh, fantastic. Look, I'm a sign collector. I'm a sign collector. When Dudley V. ran his first campaign and he had all those different signs, I had to collect all of them because, you know, I'm a history buff, so I can't wait to pull them out in 20 years.

start saying hey look what i have you know i'm a bit of a nerd well you know you made a comment about um you know some of these really well-known conservatives that have popped in and been very effective in some high profile conservative races and the fact that they're willing to get involved in these Alaska races, I think it really is a testament to President Trump and everybody realizing how pivotal and how central Alaska is to the

Trump agenda, not only from a national security standpoint, from an energy standpoint. And I think people realize how important the governor's race is going to be in 2026 to ensure that President Trump is successful nationally. Would you agree? Oh, absolutely. I mean, I've reminded people, you can get as excited as you want about the energy projects that the president is bringing online and areas that he's opening up for development.

But the reality is you are only guaranteed a Republican governor for another year and a half. That's it. And, Amy, none of these projects are going to get done in the next year and a half. They're just barely getting started. And so you've got a year and a half left on your time clock. That's it. And I think what, you know, people realize, what Brad and Ben realize, we've had conversations with them, is not only can we not afford a Democrat.

or a so-called independent, but we cannot afford a weak-need, move-at-the-pace-of-government type of Republican. We cannot afford a bureaucrat who says, well, this is simply the speed at which government works. You just don't understand. This is how this operates. I can't do anything about that.

What they're really looking for is someone that can come in from an outside perspective that has a business background and can say, I understand business, I know how to manage people, I know how to put together teams, and I know how to act fast. And those are the things we're going to do. So it's not just how do we make sure that the seat is in Republican hands? Because quite frankly, Amy, making sure that the seat is in Republican hands is a very, very, very small.

fraction of the pie. Making sure that you've got somebody in there that has the grit to get in and get it done and move quickly. Move quickly is very important. And a lot of times, even with well-intentioned conservative bureaucrats, it's just, well, this is the pace at which government works. They get used to this idea. And when you look at President Trump, when you look at Congressman Nick Begich, people would talk about how quickly my Uncle Wally moved.

Those are all individuals who did not come up through a bureaucratic system. They didn't work for government. They didn't serve in a lower level of government. That was it. They jumped in from the outside. And I think what people are realizing, both here at home and nationally, is that outside perspective really can drive a lot of change in a way that so many other people... have just kind of become immune to the idea that this is just how government works.

You know, I'm excited. I'm excited to see this race unfold because I think your entry into the race, there's no question it's going to force some of those, I would say, more complacent, moderate left Republicans.

to actually talk about issues and talk about what they're going to do and how they're going to do it. And I think it's going to be challenging for some because you point out, well, sometimes this is just how it's done in Juneau. And I think a lot of Alaskans are sick of how it's done in Juneau.

You know, speaking of which, we have a couple minutes here. We can sneak in a quick conversation about energy. This week, there's been a lot of conversation about the Secretary of Energy, Department of Interior Secretary, the EPA Administrator being in Alaska, the Governor's... What conversations are you hearing and what do you take away from the discussions that are happening this week? Well, I think any time that...

administrative officials, right? Anytime that someone from the president's administration is going to come to Alaska is a big deal. We should always welcome that with open arms. It's exciting to have the Secretary of the Interior here make no doubt about it. It is awesome when we can showcase our state and they can see firsthand the opportunity here. That is of great magnitude and not to be undermined. I will tell you, however.

I am tired of the talk, Amy. I'll just be completely blunt with you. We have had, this is the third or fourth year of this energy conference. We have talked about it throughout the years. We've had other people here. You know, my great uncle served as Secretary of the Interior decades ago. We've had lots of conversations. I'm tired of talking about it. I don't need to hear any more about how much oil is available and how many minerals available. We've established that. We know that.

To put on your hard hat and go up to the North Slope and take your photos, we've done that before. The press kits have long preceded us, many years, quite frankly, before I was born, okay? What I am far more interested in is, let's get them up here. Let's give a shovel in hand and say, you know what? You guys are taking out the first scoop of dirt. Because the minute that you walk away from here...

There's a crew of hundreds of people that's going to lay pipe. Here's your piece of pipe. Put it down in the ground. That's what I'm interested in. I want to know that the next time that they come back to Alaska, Amy, it's because we are cutting the red ribbon. on the road that's been built, and the pipe that's been laid. That's when we need to have them back. Quit talking about it. Let's move.

I think you're speaking many Alaskans' language. We're ready to see action. Let's talk more action. I love it. Well, Bernadette Wilson, she's running for governor of the great state of Alaska. You can find all kinds of information at Bernadette Wilson. for governor. I have the flyer up in front of me. Sunday, June 8th, doors open at 2 p.m. Program begins at 3 p.m. The address is 3720 Belanca Way in Anchorage, Alaska.

Again, that's going to be at Keith Montanark's Hangar. Again, that's 3720 Belonka Way in Anchorage. Doors open at 2. The program begins at 3 p.m. So that rally should be well attended. I can't wait to hear what the announcement is that comes out of it. Bernadette, thank you so much for your time this morning. Thank you, Amy. We'll see everyone on Sunday. All right. Sounds great. We're going to take a quick break. We'll be right back.

Looking at your Alaska Total Traffic cameras on this wet Thursday morning. Traffic is still moving well around the anchor. Kids who've been waiting over a year. and their weight sponsor a child with compassion today just text the word radio to eight three three nine three rain showers gradually come to an end today across south central with some late day sunshine looking possible we'll see those temperatures today warming into the

upper 40s and lower 50s, with a warming trend taking hold into the weekend. For Alaska's weather source, meteorologist Aaron Morrison. Welcome back to live, local, and insightful Morning Drive Radio on NewsRadio 650 KE. Welcome back. Our time is 7.54. Well, the sad news coming out of Alaska's North Slope. This one coming from the ADN, this article.

The NTSB has reported two killed in helicopter crash on Alaska's north slope. According to federal investigators, the helicopter was en route to the site of a reported helicopter crash. two facilities involving two different fatalities, sorry, rather, fatalities, not facilities. The crash occurred near Kaparek. 30 miles west of Dead Horse, according to the NTSB. The helicopter and crash involved a Wasilla-based Pollux Aviation. So that's sad news. Obviously, you know, we haven't heard...

you know, the people's names that are involved, but there were two fatalities in that crash that happened yesterday. The initial report of the crash came from the North Slope Borough Search and Rescue Department, according to NTSB officials, borough officials. Referred all media questions to Alaska State Troopers. According to his website, Pollux Aviation has been operating Robinson helicopters since 1991 and offers services from North Slope to ADAC to Ketchikan in South Carolina.

Alaska it's a developing story so obviously our hearts go out to the families of those impacted but that's a story that we are watching and we are monitoring You know, Daryl, I don't know about you, but as we talk about the gubernatorial election, as it teams up, look, the field is not set.

There are more people that are going to get in this race. There's no question. The left hasn't put up a candidate yet, but right now the three declared candidates are Bernadette Wilson, Republican, Click Bishop, Republican, and Nancy Dodd. Alistair Republican. Clint Bishop, in my view, I think he's a spoiler in the race, frankly. I don't think he has a chance.

As I start looking at the race and as it's solidifying, I'm really curious to see who the left's going to put up. There's a lot of speculation whether it'll be Peltola, but we do know there's other people that have, you know, gubernatorial aspirations. So we'll see who they put up, but it will be interesting to see who they put up. But my hope is whoever is the most successful candidate.

After the primary, the rest of the Republicans get out of the field. And we have a head-to-head Democrat versus Republican. And I think the stakes are high. I think the national stakes are high. I think this is a big deal for not only resource development in Alaska, but for national security in Alaska. And if we're going to capitalize on the Trump administration, frankly, you have to have a Republican in that seat.

the Democrats are going to do everything they can to obstruct and slow down Trump's agenda. And I think that's true of Democrats here in Alaska. I think it is. Oh, 100%. Yeah. So we'll see. I readily admit I'm a Republican, so that's the lens that I look through.

I'm excited to see this 2026 race to shape up because I think this is going to be one of the most important races in the country. And I'm not saying that to be sensational. I truly believe that to be the truth. All right. That does it for Daryl and I today. Stay tuned. Clay Travis and Buck Sexton. on deck, and Daryl and I will be back with you bright-eyed and bushy-tailed tomorrow morning at 6 a.m. Until then, stay safe. God bless.
