Never take impeachment off the table. Day's News. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz. It is finally Friday. Thank goodness. Current time, 6.06 a.m. Oh, Daryl. It rained last night. I woke up, lawn was wet. It looks a little greener outside. That rain will knock the dust down. Hopefully it'll be a little kinder to your allergies. A little bit.
And, you know, Ben's coming home from the slope a little bit early. You know, a shout out. One of his dear friends, Kenny Perkins, is retiring from the Anchorage Fire Department. You know, a big congratulations to Kenny. And 33 years, man, that's a long time. Very excited. Yep, yep. So congratulations to Perk. But I know he's having his retirement party tonight, so.
uh ben will be uh he's coming home early so he can he can congratulate his friends so i'm i'm glad to see that so i'll have to go make the rounds and pick him up with the airport so well i'm gonna say like party on dude Totally. Exactly. Totally. It's Garcin, man. He got it. Got it. No, so I was going to say, our schedule's a little off. You know, it's not usually Ben's come home day, but it's all right. So he'll do that, and that'll be fun. But it'll be a nice weekend.
I've got to tell you, you know, I'm counting down the days to get my flower baskets. I don't get out much, clearly. Clearly, I don't get out much. So that's my big May. I'm excited for this to happen in May. You know, the other thing I told you about, and we haven't done it yet. Over there, Alaska Motorsports.
down off of commercial. They're sensational. And I don't know how Brad talked me into it, but it wasn't hard. He saw me walk out the door. He's like, Amy, you know what Ben really needs for Christmas? He really needs one of these robots that mows your lawn. He talked me right into it. I'm not even kidding. It wasn't even hard. A room for your lawn. I was like, what? That's what I said. I'm like, you're kidding me.
And he's like, yeah, he's had it for a few years at his house. He loves it. So the gents from Alaska Motorsports are going to be coming out to the house to install. I'm not exactly sure when, but I'm sure it'll be in May sometime. They're going to come out, and it's not literally I'm going to have a robot. You know, look, Ben works on the slope, so there's really only two options, right? For Amy, there's only two options. Number one, I either hire somebody to mow the lawn while he's gone.
You know, which is totally fine. I mean, I've done that before. I don't know. It's fine. I went with the robot. So we'll see how this works out. I will report back how this works out. Okay, can I ask one thing, one thing from you? Yes, yes. Will you get either a mannequin to put on top of it so it looks like a guy is walking around your yard or at least a lawn jockey on it?
so that when people look over, there's a lawn jockey going across your yard doing your stuff. I mean, I'm literally, I can see your neighbors right now going, oh my God, the Joneses got this. I didn't even know these things. It's made by Husqvarney, I think is the one we're getting. Yeah, I think that's the one we're getting. I could be wrong. I don't even remember, but...
You know, but I was like, you're kidding me. And then I started Google and all these things. You know, they have little robots now that plow, too, snow. Because I'm like, wait a minute. If I can get one to mow my lawn, can I get one in a plow cell? I think, you know, we'll see how it turns out. I'm a little skeptical, but Brad is, he, like. Look, they're fantastic. I love the guys down there at Alaska Motorsports. That's where we got our automatic generator for our house, too.
And they came out here, they installed it. I mean, fantastic. I'm not getting paid anything to tell you this. Like, this is just Amy's legit. experience they have been so fantastic to work with and the cost of the generator was significantly less than other places because we got multiple beds significantly less and
And the service was like top notch. Instead of somebody coming out and seeing my house and being like, oh, they can afford it and racking up their price, which happened, I will tell you, it happened. I was not impressed. And I'm like, what do you think? I was born yesterday. I'm like, no. But these guys were great when we got the generator. And so the experience was so great. Then, of course, I started looking around the store. And I'm like, what is that? It's a robot that mows your lawn.
Amazing. So when you go to the snow, the robot that mows my lawn, I can deal with because you can look out, you can see his pattern, you can set a set pattern. One that plows my driveway. I could see myself having to go get dressed up in my snow gear 10, 15 times to dig the stupid thing out. No, to dig it out. Wash it would be fun, but you'd have to wash it constantly. And like, oh, no, we got stuck. Go help him get out. Go help him get out.
It'd be like having a 10-year-old plow your driveway for you. You know, it's like, it's cool, but not quite, but the lawnmower one? In theory. Well, we'll see what happens. My mother-in-law is very excited. I think they've already named the robot. I don't know what they've named it. But she used to have a room, but downstairs that she named Carl. And Carl was constantly getting stuck under the bed. And Carl was constantly getting stuck everywhere. And so Carl is no more.
So, you know, I'm like, I'm very optimistic because, you know, like. I'm very optimistic this is going to work out. We'll see. One other thing you need to do is make sure you spend plenty of time introducing Bruce to the lawnmower or he is going to have a major issue with that thing. Yeah, we'll see. We'll see how that goes. He's pretty chill dog. He doesn't get too excited about anything.
He likes to bark when somebody comes in the driveway or somebody goes past the house, you know, because he gets treats if he alerts. So he gets very excited about that. But other than that, I can see him doing it with the rumor. Like, oh, there it is. Oh, there it is. Well, my mother-in-law, for those that don't know, when we built this house, we built it with an apartment downstairs. So my mother-in-law lives downstairs.
And Bob, you know, my mother-in-law and Bob both live downstairs. And I laugh because my mother-in-law says she can't wait until it comes out because she has her bottle of Stella ready, you know, wine. She has her... She's like, I'm going to sit there with my wine watching the robot. And I just got to chuckle. She's not really a wine drinker. I'm telling you, get her a mannequin or a lawn jockey or one of those bobbleies. Oh, a bobblehead.
Get a bobblehead for it. Yeah, right, something. Well, I told you, you know, Steve, our neighbor, he has, like, the most amazing lawn. It looks like a greenway. I mean, it really looks like a golf course. And it's beautiful. And he doesn't know he's in a dad war with my husband, but he's in a dad war with my husband. My husband's always like, how is his lawn so nice? And I'm like, well, he's been at it for a few more years.
He has an amazing lawn. I mean, it's just amazing. Here we feel, you know, I laugh because I'm like, I don't know. I'm like, but, you know, at least I'll keep the grass short. So that's the best I can do. You know, they say the grass is always greener over the septic tank. That's what they say for sure. All right. Well, let's do a couple of community announcements. There's not very many for today. Today, let's see, Friday, May 2nd, there's nothing in the Mat-Su borough that's noticed for today.
But I will tell you, tomorrow, Saturday, May 3rd, the Fishfoot Community Council has noticed their cleanup day. It starts at, it says right here, Fish Hook Fire Hall, which is Station 358200 Turner Road in Palmer at 8 a.m. So they have noticed a community cleanup. I've already started to see people around town.
out there cleaning up stuff. Have you noticed them out there, Daryl, with their little vests and their bags? Not only have I noticed them, I've honked, waved, and shouted encouragement because, yes, I have seen many of them, and it tickles me pink because that's probably one of the grossest things about Alaska. Yeah, I was going to say spring cleanup is one that you look at and you say, okay. Yeah, I was going to say.
How did that get there? I mean, it is interesting. Some of the stuff you find, but this year, and I just now realized this as I said that, Spring cleanup is going to be a little bit lacking, in my opinion, because we're cleaning up the highways. We're cleaning up the loose trash along there. But as you drive along those highways, you see these giant, literal trash pits, trash piles. The nastiest stuff ever.
Giant piles of them on the sides of the roads in the trees. I literally, yesterday I was embarrassed. I was thinking about tourists coming through. Oh, man. And I was embarrassed by the Alaska scenery they're going to be getting. I will tell you, Marie called in yesterday, and she was talking about Davis Park. And I took a little jaunt yesterday as I drove into Anchorage.
I mean, you can see it from the highway, too. When you drive into Anchorage, you know, just as you're getting to, what is it, Bergau right there? Yep. If you look over to the right, I mean, it is. I mean, it's right off the highway. You could see it. It's terrible. And then I took a little job. She was not wrong. Like I said, I have a friend that lives over there that we've been talking for the last couple of weeks about what's going on at Davis Park. And I will tell you, I mean.
In the summertime when all the leaves are there and it's a little bit hidden from view and you can't see it, it's one thing. But it was Anchorage. I mean, Anchorage kind of looks like a toilet, to be honest. It's not pretty. Not pretty. Like I said, there's several. Every day when I go home from work, there's one that I come down onto the Minnesota from Diamond, the ramp there. And you look over next to the beautiful creek.
Gorgeous. And then there is a giant, literally, I'd say 60 by 60 square area that's probably on the edges of it, three feet deep. Trash, garbage. Wow. And when I say garbage, I mean like looking over and going, wow. It's horrible. And that's just one of, let me tell you. at least eight on my drive home. Wow, that's just unacceptable. Well, it is spring cleanup time now around the Mat-Su, well, around Alaska, really.
You know, do be careful when you see people on the side of the road. You know, watch out. Most of them are wearing safety vets. A lot of them are. I've seen a couple of neighbors out just cleaning up. So please do be careful as you see that. If you have a group and you want to get out there and clean, just make sure everybody's safe when they do it. We don't want anybody getting hit by a car. But we do appreciate everybody in the community who pitches in to help.
It is a team effort, and it's more than one person doing it. So thank you for all those that do that. So as I look at the MATSU, that was the only announcement that I saw for this weekend. Again, if you want to track the MATSU boroughs calendar, just go to matugov.us and you'll be able to do that. As far as the Anchorage Assembly goes, we're going to skip over to them because there's nothing in Palmer or Wasilla that's publicly noticed.
There's no boards and commissions in Anchorage that are publicly noticed. So we're going to skip down to the Anchorage Assembly. There's a work session today at 1 p.m. on its ethics training. City Hall Conference Room 155. This is likely going to be for the new people. That's my guess. But I could be wrong. It could be all of them. I don't know.
But ethics training, I mean, I don't know about disclosures and conflicts of interest because I feel like it's been laughable in Anchorage, but, you know, there you have it. But that meeting is going to be today, 1 o'clock at 210. They have a work session regarding the housing action plan and assembly work plan. So we were just talking about homelessness. So, yeah, we'll see. That's going to be at 210 today. These are both in City Hall, Conference Room 155.
If you need more information on either of these meetings, just go to muni.org and click on the Assembly tab, and you'll be able to find it there. And that really does it for our announcements. I didn't see anything on the calendar for the borough of Kenai, the city of Kenai, or... Homer doesn't have anything on their calendar either. So again, Friday is typically a pretty light day.
It will be just a nice weekend where everybody can kind of start getting their summer stuff out and get ready for it. The season that is in front of us, and it's going to be a great summer. All right, we're going to go ahead and take a quick break, our first break in the morning. This is Freeform Friday, so if you'd like to weigh in on...
Maybe topics we talked about earlier in the week or if there's something else you want to talk about. Today's the day. We're always happy to kind of divert from our plan today to talk about whatever you want to talk about. All you have to do is give us a call, 522-0650. We'll be right back. Look at it at your lap. Those temperatures warming into the low to mid-50s. For Alaska's weather source, I'm meteorologist, Airman.
Welcome back for Time 624. We are going to go straight to the phones. And my friend Ken is on the phone. Good morning, sir. Hey, good morning. I do have a joke for you this Friday, you know. Oh, I love it. Hit me with it. This one cracked me up. It's going to hit you daily, all the ladies out there. I told my wife that she painted her eyebrows on a little high. She looked surprised. I like it. I had a joke just off my head that it's inappropriate. I'd like Daryl to cover.
the best preparation methods for Sandhill Crane, because those rascals, if you have a shiny trailer or a shiny pickup truck, During mating season, the male freaks out and attacks your vehicle, and they dent it. It cracks the heck out of it. No. They tore it up. So I want to know how to cook one of those things. The problem I have is they mate for life. If you kill one of them, you may as well kill both of them.
You can't do that. Look, your trailer's just things. If they dented a little, it adds character. Yeah, a $16,000 trailer, yeah, I got you. You just got to let it happen. You know, Ken, I mean, you just got to let it happen. I mean, they're so cute, and they, you know. It's like swans. If you kill one swan, you know, like, I mean, the whole mating for life, I didn't know that about Stan Hale Kane. So now that you're telling me that, I'm advocating for you just to let it happen.
I agree. I didn't kill him. I walked around the corner and I could have just snatched him up by his long skinny neck and had it done its way. But I'm with you. I agree. You had a day this week. Oh, I've had a couple of days this week. I've had a couple of days this week. Lord, help me. I know. Well, it won't quit. It's not a day this week. permanent actually. It's a permanent influence. We are in the most interesting of times.
And I listen as much as I can while I'm working. You can't do it all the time, but you can turn on AK Leg and put the live feed on, the live now, and listen while you're working, if you can. And if you're listening to finance committees, all you want to do is go outside and scream because they have $60 barrel oil right now. What they should be doing is emergency hearings across the board with every single...
ahead of any department in the state coming in and presenting a 20% cut across the board budget, but they're not doing any of that. No, what they have is like tomorrow they have SB 32 on the books, for instance. basically go past any decision-making thing is saying we're going to allow this whole renewable thing and one of the things you said
I'm not picking on you. I'm commiserating with you, Amy. Oh, no, go for it. No, I'm not taking as big. I'm feeling your pain. I'm just irritated in general. Yeah, especially after listening to everybody just make excuses. You're going to get me worked up today. You see, it's already happening. Daryl's already worked up. We started the show and Daryl's been mad all night. Yeah, and I know why, because they're...
Instead of making a foundation that they can depend on with reason, logic, morals, and ethics in our legislature, they're always in defense mode because they put themselves there. We didn't do that to them, and you make it out like we're the mean guys for pointing out they're Maltheasians.
You know, Ken, you watch a lot. Let me ask you. I want to interject for a second because I want to ask you a question. I think I said it yesterday. The silence in the House was deafening. If this was such a great HB 57, the increase... And when they tell you it's a $700 per student increase, it's actually a whole lot more than that if they actually get it funded, right, because they want to pass a new tax. a new digital online tax in order to fund part of it
So if they actually do that, the price is actually significantly higher. And so, but again, they're trying to tell us that this spending bill, because that's what it is. It's really a big spending bill. It's really not. It's really not an education bill that's going to improve educational outcomes, in my humble opinion. But if it was such a great bill, and now they're all so proud of it, why didn't any of them? The only person in the House that got up to speak was Zach Field.
There was no debate. There was no discussion. None of the Republicans got up and said, this is so great. I want to explain to my constituents why I'm voting for it. Not one of them. None of them got up and spoke against it. You know why? Because they were given the order, don't you dare get up and speak against it because you're going to make us that vote for it look bad. That's what we said. It's almost a zip. It reminds me of a dog. Yeah.
Yeah, it reminds me of a dog that has a perimeter fencing electric e-fits, and you've seen them. They sit over there quietly, and you're thinking, man, that dog's well-behaved. No, it's not that they're well-behaved. Somebody built an electric fence that if they walk near it, they get shocked into submission. That's exactly the way they're at.
Yep, and so now, right now, what do we have? You know, look, and I've said this before, there is not one politician I've ever met that I agree with 100% of the time. I'm going to use my platform to cover up for your bad policies. I know exactly what this was. This was you making a conscientious choice to take more of my permanent fund to be able to squelch or you think you're squelching the NEA so you can have an easier time in the 2026 election. I know what this is.
And the fact of the matter is, this is what they're saying behind the scenes. They just won't say it out loud in public. So, again, I'm just like... I don't know what you're saying, but it's kind of like. It's kind of like the guy that leaves his phone on the counter. and his wife is cooking dinner, and his girlfriend texts the phone, and his wife picks it up and looks at it, and she starts calling him out for having a girlfriend. How dare you invade my privacy and talk about it.
No, let's actually talk about your behavior, right? That's gaslighting. I know. And this is what's happening right now. You're seeing it from even people that I like and I respect. I disagree on their vote, but you're seeing it from them now saying, we can't call out Republicans. We can't do this. You guys are so divided. No, you know what? If you take your vote in public I'm allowed to talk about your vote in public.
Period. I'm not going to not talk about it. And the fact of the matter is, I'm not going to treat every single person who listens to this show like they're an idiot. Because you know what? They can see very clearly the politics behind the scenes. They know what's happening. And for them to treat us like we're idiots, somehow we just don't understand the political games. We just don't understand. The reality is this is a massive spending bill. with no accountability. Really. That's what it is.
And I know you're coming to the bottom of the hour. SB 32 is public testimony on Monday evening at 3.30, which is a lot of time. I've got to look that one up. Yeah, that's for them to tell you we're going to bill you and be able to bill these battery storage things. Hey, if these wind farms and solar plants want to come into play, make them pay to build the battery storage. Of course. Yeah, don't make us pay for these things. I have to look that one up.
Make them pay for it, not you. I think that's fair. I haven't read this one, so I'm going to have to look that one up. SB 32. I will put it on my reading list. Thank you, Ken. I appreciate it, as always. Thanks, Amy. All right. Talk to you later. All right, we're going to take a quick break, but Roland's up next. If you'd like to call in, be part of the show. Today is Free Forum Friday. The number to call, 522-0650.
A man is behind bars in connection to the death of a teenage girl whose body was found on a power line trail in Wasilla late last year. Alaska state troopers say they've arrested 45-year-old Sean Mobley for the death of 16-year-old Elena Tennis in November. He's charged with second-degree murder, manslaughter, and misconduct involved.
Some Alaska rivers are experiencing flooding as the ice begins to melt and break up. A flood advisory is in effect from lower Kalskag to Antioch due to an ice jam along the Kuskokwim River. The National Weather Service says minor flooding was reported on the roadways at Akiak yesterday. A flood watch is also in effect. for the Yukon River from Eagle to Circle, where the water has risen over the bank.
and a songbird scavenger hunt is getting underway in Alaska's interior. The Alaska Songbird Institute's Fairbanks Birding Challenge began yesterday and will last through the month of May. Community members can compete by birdwatching and crossing birds off a checklist once they've spotted them. The top five scorers will win a prize. That's the latest. I'm John Fink.
Welcome back. Current time, 638. It's Freeform Friday. If you'd like to call in, be part of the show, 522-0650. All right, we're going to go to Roland. Good morning, sir. Yes, it has to be a stuffed bear that you put on top of your lawnmower. He is so right. I will give up the lawn jockey to have a bear rolling around your yard. Well, I'll keep you posted how this turns out.
I didn't even know lawn robots were a thing. But apparently they're a thing. And they come in two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive. And I have a little bit of a hill. So Brad's told me I need a four-wheel drive version. So that's what we're going with. So we'll see how this turns out, but I'm very excited about this prospect. Well, to get on something more not fun, Last night, two politicians called in to the afternoon show and excoriated how great they did on this.
Bill, and they wouldn't dare call into you because you'd call them out. Well, I read the bill. You know, and here's the thing. Okay, look, let's be honest. You know, I like Mike Schauer, and I like Rob Yount. I supported them both. When they ran for office, I agreed with a lot of things they do. I don't agree with everything. And here's the problem with these guys. They know I know what's happening behind the scenes.
They know it. And here's the reality. I've read the entire bill. So much of this bill is a spending bill. That's what it is. And part of that spending is predicated on a new online digital tax. which is going to be what? Pass through to the consumer. Do you think a company is just going to spend an extra $65 million on a new tax and not pass it through to their consumers? Of course they are.
So now you have two reported fiscal conservatives that are now telling you, oh, just take this crap sandwich and pretend you're eating lobster and steak. Well, the thing is they're always saying that we need to tax the businesses more. And I've always said if you tax them more, it just goes straight to the thing. It's just like, you know, yes, you want to increase the wages.
people, but then that $5 hamburger is now an $8 hamburger because you've done that. It's a pass-through to the consumer. That's what it is. And, you know, you're exactly right, Roland. You're exactly right. And so that increases inflation so that poor person that you just raised their wages actually loses more because... Not only do the poor people have to get a raise, I mean, the lower wages, everybody else has to get a raise because everything went up.
So, you know, this raising people's wages doesn't really do anything except make them think that they got a raise. Yeah, you know, I think you're right. And, you know, to your point, you know, it just spreads out the pain. I mean, it means that the people buying the hamburger are going to spend more for the hamburger.
So then the people who get the raise, guess what? They can't afford the $5 hamburger anymore. And it's like this cycle, this perpetual cycle. I mean, I think you've hit the nail on the head. And, you know, this is the challenge we have right now is, you know, and I had this very frank discussion with a legislator that called me. Nothing irritates me more. When these morons act like they're smarter than you, And I'm just going to say it. You know, when you call me up.
And you just tell me, oh, you just don't understand the politics. Are you kidding me? I helped write the book. I mean, I get the politics. I know the politics. You're a insider. I know. And I'm just like, I know the game they're playing. And you know what? Here's what's so funny about it all. These people have been absolutely played by the Democrats.
And the Democrats have clearly read the art of the deal. And the Republicans are running around taking a victory lap when they just got there. They just got.
over the floor. Oh, Amy, you just said the key word for me all night long. I have literally been thinking after hearing this, the Democrats have read the art of the deal. Exactly. We started at $1,800, came down to $1,400, down to $1,000. Exactly. 700 they got an increase to the massive increase to the base student allocation and some of them
We'll say, well, we gave them 680 last year. You know, this is only $20 more. But last year wasn't inside. It wasn't inside of the foundation formula, right? It wasn't inside of the BSA. It was outside. And to Representative Allard's point, when we started this
Oil was at $75 per barrel. Last she looked, it was $66 per barrel. So they're underwater, but what they've done... is they've now moved this $700 BSA increase permanently into the base student allocation, and they're underwater with their funding. So, I mean, when the ship is sinking, you probably should stop barreling holes into it. I mean, it's probably not a good idea.
So, Roland, I've got to be honest with you. I laugh because Daryl's been triggered all night, and I got done work yesterday pretty late. And so he had sent me a couple audio clips from Yunt and Schauer on Porcaro's show last night, and I didn't get a chance to listen to him. So during the breaks, he's been playing them for me. He has been triggered all night long. All night long. Oh, yeah. And I hope they call in.
I hope they call in. I want them to call in. Young was going to call in earlier this week. And when I told him that I was going to ask him two questions, how are you going to pay for it? And what is our ROI? What are we actually going to get as far as policy changes that are going to improve educational outcomes? What are we going to get for it? I said, you need to know. I am skeptical. I am not supportive of HB 57. I told him this via text.
And the response I got back after a little while was, leadership doesn't want me to call in. They're going to have Bob Griffin call in instead. And Shower will call in on Thursday. Shower was too busy to call in yesterday morning. I got a last minute. It was like 11 o'clock at night. Oh, I can't make it. And I'm like, that's cool. I mean, if you look, but the difference between me and others, I've read the bill.
I understand the game. I know the policy. I know the conversations that are being told behind the scenes because they've told me them. Some of these people have actually called me and said, we did this, we did that. This is where the conversation, and the conversation is all around 2026. This is the conversation behind the scenes.
You have people that are in these districts, they keep calling them purple districts, that, well, you know, the NEA is going to come after them, and, you know, we have to be able to flip the house and get conservative majorities back, and, you know, here's the reality. the nea is coming for the republic conservative fiscal or conservative republicans anyway They're coming for you. They're always gonna put up a candidate against you. They're always gonna put in money against you.
But what you've done is you are selling out your base. You are making a strategic choice to take every single one of your constituents' permanent fund dividend, to take more of that money, and put it into education funding without measurable... improvements or policy changes that are going to improve educational outcomes and you're trying to convince us
That somehow you did a great thing when we know for a fact that behind the scenes what you're actually saying is we need to insulate ourselves for 2026 and take this away from Wolakowski. Take this away from the NEA so they can't attack us on it. So what you're doing is taking my money to cover your butt in the next election. Okay, just be truthful with us about it.
I mean, I think you're a big boy, Roland. You could take that conversation if your legislator told you that, right? You may not like it, but you could take it, right? Yep. It's all I'm saying. Here's the other thing. took so much money away from us because they couldn't afford giving us a dividend. And they're raising this up. But did they take away more from the dividend? And the dividend goes to everyone.
You know, it's just unreal what they're doing. And they just keep thinking they're going to get away with it, you know. Yeah, I'm telling you. We have groups like the Valley Republican Women. I read their Facebook post yesterday. And for those that are interested, I recommend, whether you're a man or a woman, they have great meetings. The next meeting will be out in Big Lake, May 17th. It's a Saturday morning.
And, you know, it's in Representative McCabe's district. He did vote no on HB 57, just to put that on the record. But, you know, the reality is... I've never met a politician I agree with 100% of the time. Just because I disagree with you doesn't mean I don't like you. Now, there are some, when you become a snake and you become a liar, when you lose your integrity and you lie to my face, I lose all respect for you and I'm done. I am done.
I will look forward to you getting an actual fiscal conservative challenger, and I will give them money. So that's just where I am at with these legislators. But to your point, Like, just tell me the truth. Like, tell me the truth. And the impact they're making, Roland, I'll take it one step further. You said about them taking everybody, everybody in their district, whether they're poor or whether they're rich, whatever.
Everybody, they've taken the money away to fund this education. But on top of it, this bill predicates a new online tax, too. So not only are they taking your PFD, which I would argue is also a tax of sorts, they're taking money directly out of your pocket, but now they're going to tax you as well. Now, they'll say it's not a sales tax online, but if you're taxing Amazon,
And Amazon is going to pass that through to your customers, as we already highlighted for people. So now they're taking money out of your left pocket and your right pocket, and they're trying to convince you somehow this is a win for you. Yeah, the thing with it is he was saying how much, you know, that they're taking money away from us and it's going to other states and everything else. And I'm just laughing at him thinking that he really thinks that we're...
that were that stupid. But I hope these two politicians call in because, you know, you've got their number. I hope they do. I've invited them both. I like them both. I just disagree with them on this policy. So, you know, and that's where we are. I hope they call in. They're both always invited. Always, always, always. So, Roland, I've got to take a quick break. Thank you for your call this morning. Remember a bear.
I got it. The bear on the robot lawnmower. I love it. All right, we're going to take a quick break. We'll be right back. Looking at your Alaska total traffic cameras for a Friday morning, currently light traffic inbound on... ...changed throughout the day as some cloudy conditions pave the way for some partly cloudy skies and some sunshine to return with those temperatures warming into the low to mid-50s. For Alaska's weather source, I'm meteorologist...
Let's go to the phones, and Randy is with us. Good morning, sir. Good morning, Ms. Sunshine and Daryl. It's a really good show today. I'd like to just talk, first a quick joke, and then talk about SB 113. Yes. The joke is, what matters to both of us? Settle an argument. How did two buffaloes settle an argument? I don't know how. I'll just be, bye-bye, bye-bye. The play on bison. Bison.
Nice, nice, nice. You know, I had a couple jokes in my head and I totally lost them. I'm going to have to find them. You know, I usually write them down because otherwise I forget. It's like a stage right. I just forget. So I'll have to come up with one. Because the only one that's popping in my head is not really appropriate. So I can't tell it on the air. You know, we'll get there. Okay, what about 1.13? What did you want to say? We have about a minute and a half. What about 1.13?
Okay, 113. As I read it, the lip is kind of like a camel's nose underneath the tent. If they're taxing an Amazon order, which is an electronic order, why would it stop them to tax an order to your local admirers? Walmart would order food. Let me add a little to this because they all had a point during the break on this one. So the reality is what they're saying is.
You know, Amazon, this huge, you know, big company from out of state is competing with local businesses. But what is Amazon really? Amazon really is a pass-through, right? It is a marketplace, and it's made up of a bunch of independent retailers and independent companies. business owners that sell their product on Alaska, on the Internet.
The reality is there's a lot of Alaska businesses that sell their products on Amazon, too. So when they try to put this as an us versus them, let me just break it down for you. Every single expense that a business incurs will be directly related to the cost of the product they're selling.
Any new tax that they put out there is going to be passed through to you as the consumer. So when they say they're taxing Amazon, they're really taxing you. That's the fact of it. And there's no getting around it. It's a pass-through tax.
So you make a really good point, but I agree with you. I think it is the camel's nose under the tent. And I'll be honest with you, I think the Democrats see a bunch of Republicans down there this year as a bunch of useful idiots. And they're saying, oh, we can use these.
and they're laughing their butts off because they got a whole bunch of what they wanted and the Republicans are trying to take a victory lap and try to convince you this massive spending bill that's going to cost more of your money is somehow a win for you. Oh, I don't know if that's the case. All right, Randy, gotta take a break. I'll be back.
We can come the day you call us. We're 1-800-GOT-JUNK. We make junk disappear. All you have to do is point. Brian, I've been meaning to ask you something. Okay, ask away. Sometimes when we're talking, I hear a little... point there it is did you hear that Like, we can come the day you call us? Wow. Cross and Long. Victim of a slip and fall accident? Welcome back to Hour 2 of the Amy Domboski Show, broadcasting live and local every weekday morning from 6 to 8 a.m.
If you'd like to call in and be part of the show, the number is 522-0650. We're going to go straight to the phones. And Joe is with us. Good morning, sir. Thank you, Amy. I want to dedicate this call to the descendants of World War. to military, and it's going to be a brief summary of the history, and there's so much that... I'm going to have to cut out a lot. And by the way, Amy, if I start talking over you, put the hammer down. It's very rude. And I'm still on meds.
Oh, I hope you're healing quickly. I know you recently had some major surgeries, so I think about you often, and I'm sending my prayers your way, my friend. Very kind of you. The turning point actually in World War II... And this is after the Americans went into Germany, and then there was the Normandy invasion, the Battle of the Bulge. And so much went on. But what really got my attention was, and by the way, the Allied...
Powers were United States, Great Britain, France, Soviet Union, and a little later on, China. The Axis powers were Germany, Italy. And Japan. And in the end here, you'll know, and your listeners will know, they never had a chance. Now, Ken, Bruce, the two Garys, Carl, they already know this. but the younger ones are the ones that I'm targeting. In North Africa, the Battle of El Alamein, led by Lieutenant General Barnard Montgomery, British.
The second battle of El Alamein was so important because already the Axis powers were being starved of petrol. And North Africa led into Egypt and Iran, and we could not allow them to get a hold of that oil because we've got them almost in checkmate. But, you know, it's the Battle of El Alamein that marked the turning point of the war. It was led by the British Eighth Army, and they won, with the help of the U.S., of course,
And I got a quote from British Prime Minister Amy. Winston Churchill, in 1950, he wrote, quote, It may almost be said... Before El Alamein, we never had a victory. After El Alamein, We never had a defeat, unquote. And by the way, Amy, I love that name, El Alamein. It just has a nice little ring to it, especially when we won. There was Corregidor in the Philippines.
There was Midway. You know, the Japanese lost four carriers. We lost one. 362 men died on our side and much more on the other. We lost one destroyer. Italy surrenders. Mussolini heads to Switzerland to avoid arrest. They catch him. Him and his wife are executed. The allies, Amy, had no sympathy. Hitler commits suicide. Japan was the tough one. And FDR passes away. Harry Truman becomes president. Manhattan Project is initiated.
Thousands of people helped. Albert Einstein was in the United States by then with his E equals MC square formula. Atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima, and Truman demands unconditional surrender. by Japan, but they wouldn't do it. Hirohito was pushed aside by Tojo, the military leader. Amy, an atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, which wasn't even a target. Because of bad weather, they couldn't get to the chosen target, so they were not going to fly that B-29 back.
with that heavy bomb. It wasn't designed to land with that bomb on it, so they had to drop it somewhere. When they dropped it on Nagasaki, The ground temperature reached 4000 degrees Fahrenheit. 224,000 Japanese people were vaporized. The infrastructure and military infrastructure in Hiroshima and Nagasaki They couldn't believe what had happened, and still they would not surrender. So Harry Truman says, we are going to drop rain from the skies.
bombs on every Japanese city until you surrender. And finally, Hirohito's taken to... The USS Missouri where MacArthur reads the terms of the surrender. He signs UNCLE. I mean, Hirohito signs UNCLE. Military person higher up in Japan were forced to commit suicide. And the way they did it is they kneeled in front of their religious shrine. with a 15 inch dagger and just under the rib cage they would drive that dagger up and try to get the tip of it into the heart with both hands.
At full strength. The cowards had a pistol laying nearby because they couldn't necessarily do it. I know I couldn't do that. But the Japanese people were very, very proud. Now, 30 seconds here. Fast forward to Ronald Reagan, who was the first president I voted for. I learned all this from Dan Seavey. He was one of the founders of the Iditarod.
And he was my high school teacher in Seward, Amy. Oh, fantastic. Joe, we're running short on time, so you've got to kind of wrap it up for me. Ronald Reagan goes to Berlin. and tells the Soviet premier, Mr. Gorbachev, Tear down this wall. It was because the Soviets were getting too cozy in East Germany. So I dedicate this to the descendants of World War II military and all that helped.
And I love your show, Amy. Thank you, Joe. I appreciate the history lesson. I don't know if you know this, but I'm a little bit of a history buff. One of my useless degrees that I've never used is a history degree because I love it so much. So I appreciate the history lesson. Thank you so much for calling in today. I think that's a great message. Okay, we're going to take a quick break. When we come back, we will continue with your calls. 522-0650. You're listening to Live.
All right, I got to tell you, I can't wait for these next two phone calls. I will just tell you, I'm just very excited about this. First up, Bruce is with us. Oh, Bruce. Good morning, my friend. Morning, Amy. Morning, Daryl. Well, I got a joke real quick before I get up. Oh, go for it. Hit me with it. I love it. I love it. Do you know what you call a honeybee in America? honeybee in america know what
Nice. Solid. Solid. Okay, okay, okay, okay. All right, all right. Now let's go to your rehab. What's on your mind this Freeform Friday? So I'm upset with House Bill 57, but I wanted to listen to all sides. And then I started reflecting what we've seen this session. In this session, we've seen a new tax, again, on Alaskans by stealing the PFD.
We've seen a freshman senator propose two new taxes, one on Hillcorp and one on Internet sales, that, yes, they're going to recoup that money, so it's going to affect us all. Okay. And, whoa, what happened there? That was weird. me giving you a correct day. A big ol' day here. And we've seen the PFD get taken because our minority leader in the Republican House, Mia Costello, Didn't tell our representatives what was going on. It's been the art of the deal all this session on our Republicans.
Yeah, the Democrats have read the book, clearly. The Republicans clearly have not. Yeah, and this House Bill 57, I was reading it again. I've read it a few times now. You know the part where they give extra money for the Reads Act, which the Reads Act is great. I love it. Do you know part of the bonus they get is if a kid reads at grade level? Yes. How? You know, Amy, I'm going to give you a bonus for doing your job. You know what I mean? And then they're going to create a task force.
to oversee education. What's the Department of Education do for the state? And then, oh, I really love this, we're going to expand government by watching your kids for the next 20 years. Even though the Department of Labor does it, we have your kids for the first 12 years, and they're already failing in everything.
But we're going to watch them for the next 20 years because, thank God, their parents are watching to make sure they're successful. I have no idea how we've won because it feels like the ones that are running the state are the Democrats. And one more thing. We have no political leadership in Juneau. I hate to say it. There's some good people that I really like.
But I listened to her interview this last week with Jamie Allard, and I've kind of watched her with House Joint Resolution 11, that they've bent the knee to Canada's feelings rather than backing Trump. Jamie Allard, Representative Allard, I'm willing to guess they don't really care for what she says. but she has her pulse on what conservatives want. And I'm looking to her to be the leader. And if she needs some inspiration or motivation, Representative Allard...
Go, girl. You get a high five from me. You're doing and you're saying what we want. And I could continue ran, but I know you got something to say. Well, no, I do not want you to go yet because I have an audio clip. I want to play for you because this is your senator. And this is him last night on Pekaro's show talking about people who are criticizing or not agreeing with this bill, HB 57. Go ahead, Gerald.
Yeah, this bill is unbelievable. Anybody that thinks any different has not read the bill or doesn't know how to read. That's your senator. So what's your response to that? You know, I listened to that last night with Senator Mike Schauer and Senator Rob Young. And personally, Amy, I like them both. I really do, and I think they're smart guys.
But for them to say those things, he's calling me an idiot. He's calling you an idiot. He's calling everybody else an idiot. You know, I didn't even want to bring up the comments that he said about Suzanne Downing. which I'm sure he regrets now when she wrote her earlier article about, I think it was Senate Bill 92 for that tax on Hillcorp.
So I guess we're just all dumb because we're not in Juneau. And I'm supposed to still support you and give you money because I bet you when the elections come around, they're going to want money and support. And I'm finding it very hard. To be on a team that keeps telling me I just don't understand and I'm an idiot.
And I don't get any town halls. I don't get the only way I can interact is on social media. And then I get contacted personally. Hey, don't don't make us look bad on social media. Well, what am I supposed to do? I don't understand. Like, I want to support you. I want you to win. But the way I see it, the Democrats already run in the state. And in 2026, if they get the governor, then they really got it. Yeah, look, I've got to be honest with you right now.
I have had so many people reach out to me after Shower and Yant appeared last night on Mike Piccaro's show. They did themselves a disservice. They came across as arrogant and condescending. And when you outwardly say, look, I've got to tell you, I have had some incredible conversations with my car mechanic. who understands fiscal policy, who understands return on investment, who understands basic common sense, right?
And so I do not believe, I am not a person who says you have to go to college to be a smart person because I know some incredibly smart people that frankly are in their trades that are doing the job. You do not need a college degree. But what I will say. When I have somebody like Rob Young tells me I don't know how to read and I'm working on my third master's right now,
it really kind of pisses me off, to be honest with you. Because what it says, it's very condescending. I think you got hit a little too many times, you know, when you were wrestling on the mat. I'm just saying. If you're going to insult me, like, I can throw him back, my friend. Because what you, I'm just, okay, I'm just going to say it. Rob Yunt is being used like a useful idiot by Zach Fields this year.
That's what's happening. I've seen the picture of them late at night walking down the sidewalk of Juno together, coming out of the bar. Like, I'm just saying, like, I like Robbie Hunt. I really do. I really do. And we can disagree on policy. But don't call me an idiot because I know the game you're playing and you guys are the ones that look like fools. You have been used and abused by the Democrats this year and you're taking a victory lap like you won.
Yeah, there's two pieces of advice I'd give. Sometimes a political win means a loss among your constituents. And the other thing that I'll say, our group in Juneau, and this goes with any group, a team or whatever, don't get drunk off your own righteousness.
And by that, I mean, don't think you're so right that you don't listen to anybody else. Everybody's susceptible to it. I understand that. But I feel right now people are getting drunk on their own righteousness, and they're not listening to the other people that support them. Yeah, no, I think you're absolutely right, Bruce.
I appreciate you calling in. I couldn't wait to hear your perspective on what happened. Because like you, I tend to be a pragmatic person. And I want to listen to both sides. And I leave room for it to be wrong, frankly. But when I read this bill, here's the thing. I am very good at sniffing out Bravo Sierra. And so when they're telling me this is a win, this is a win, there's so much policy in here.
The reality is this is a massive spending bill, and as you pointed out rightly with the Reeds Act, If people are reading on grade level, they're basically going to get a $400 bonus per student. So now we're not talking about a $700 BSA increase. We're talking about an $1,100 BSA increase, because unlike some of these legislators, I can do basic math. And then you talk about the section where it talks the escalators.
We haven't even talked about the escalators in there for special needs, for then the escalators, you know, for intensive needs, which is a 13-time escalator. And then we haven't even talked about CTE. And then the funding that they're championing, whether it is the READS Act or the CTE, it's dependent on a brand-new tax.
that's going to tax your internet sales. Now, it's being called a corporate tax because it's going to tax Amazon, but Amazon's going to pass that tax on to you. And so you're going to pay for it. So then they tell us, oh, well, the cell phone bill, you know, it's going to ban cell phones in school. But they're not telling you, well, it leaves room for the Anchorage School District and every other school district to make their own policy. So then it's not really a mandate, is it?
So, again, there's a lot of things in here where on its surface it looks like it could do it, but it's not really mandatory. And I'll tell you, when it comes to charter schools, There's nothing in here that's actually going to expand the number of charter schools. So, again, as I read the bill, because I, like you, it's a 14-page bill. It's not that long. I've read the whole bill. And guess what? I do know how to read.
And guess what else? I do know how to understand the political games, and you all can't keep your mouth shut. So you've all told us a game that's playing, and we know behind the scenes that Shower and Hughes went over to the house and they were like you guys got to vote for this we gave you cover this will give you if everybody sticks together you'll have cover for the 2026 election but the fact of the matter is
You don't have the courage to say that to your constituents. So you know what? Guess what? I'm doing my job, and I'm reporting the truth. I love fired up, Amy, and I hope that new robot lawnmower gives you a chance to sit down and get some zen and get you to calm down. I love getting you fired up. I love it.
All right. You guys have a great weekend, and everybody get out and enjoy Alaska. It's warming up, so have fun. Hey, my brother. All right. Thanks for the call. All right. Okay. All right. I have to warm up for this one. Hang on. It's my friend Larry. He's on hold. Okay, I've done my stretches. All right, Larry, I'm ready for you. Hey, I just wanted to relate a recent meeting between a psychiatrist and his patient. No names will be used to protect the innocent.
What's this? The psychiatrist asked the disturbed young man, showing him a triangle. A keyhole. And boy, oh boy, what's going on behind there? And this, continued the doctor, showing the man a rectangle. That's a motel window. And boy, oh boy, what's going on behind there? And this, he concluded, showing him a circle. A porthole. And boy, oh boy, what's going on behind there.
Well, said the psychiatrist, you certainly are sexually disturbed. I'm sexually disturbed. What about you showing me all those dirty pictures? Bingo. you Larry, I was warmed up for it. I was ready for it. I don't know that I was really ready for it. I appreciate the call. Oh, he just mic-dropped me. Oh, totally did. He totally did. That's awesome. That's fantastic. I love Larry. You've got to love the people from Eagle River. I've got to tell you, solid, solid.
All right, we're going to go ahead and take a quick break. When we come back, we will continue with your calls, 522-0650. Welcome back from Time 737. We're going to go straight to the phones and Michelle is with us. Good morning, Michelle. Good morning, Amy. I don't have much to add because Bruce pretty much said it all, but I, too, was listening to the Mike Procaro show yesterday when Showers was on there, and it felt literally like I was listening to something in the Twilight Zone.
When are these people going to realize that we did not vote them in so that they can... caucus, cohort, you know, plan, work with, be quote-unquote bipartisan with the Democrats. If these Republicans, supposed Republicans, would stick together and do what Jamie Allard did, They may not win this time, but it would keep growing because the people that would vote for them would know that they're doing what they say. And this literally makes me sick. How come Jamie Allard can stand strong?
How come Jamie Allard and a couple of the others stand strong, but the supposed other Republicans can't? And they bend a knee, everything, and to listen to Young. on the floor, basically almost crying, thanking the Democrats. I mean, it literally made me sick to my stomach watching that guy basically crying. how much she just was so happy to work with them and get this done. It literally turned my stomach.
I feel like as a woman, like I could go in there and I don't even have any experience. But I feel like if I was there, I could stand strong. I could stand strong to the pressure. And showers would come back and say, no, you don't understand what goes on. in Juneau because we're down there and we've got all these people coming and doing this and doing that. I don't care.
there is a principle here he should be disregarding everything else except for what his constituents voted him in for i don't care what your reasoning is You're ruining the state. If we don't have you guys, we have no one. And then Alaska gets turned over to the Democrats and the basic communists. You guys are the last thing standing between us and this state going down. Do you not understand that?
It literally makes me sick. I want them to come on and talk to real people, real true conservatives, instead of going on basically the favorable. I like Mike Piccaro, but he's pretty favorable. to them and going on there and spewing what they spew. No, you need to talk to some of the true conservatives that are getting sick of this. And we're going to rally around the people that are true conservatives like Jamie Allard.
You know, I will tell you, Michelle, you have hit the nail on the head. And look. And I have never been somebody who tries to sandbag somebody when they come on my show, but they know they're going to get real questions. I will let them, I want them to say their side, but I'm going to ask them real questions. And I told them all ahead of time.
I'm going to ask you how you're going to pay for it because we all know the answer to that, right? And then I'm going to ask you what we're going to get for it. And the reality is they're trying to convince you this bill is full of policy. This is a spending bill. It is a massive spending bill that is shifting.
One-time appropriations year to year that they can actually consider their revenue and say, this is how much we can afford this year. We'll add this as one-time finding this year. What they're doing is they're shifting that to permanent. And then they're adding in all these massive escalators that are dependent on new taxes. That's what they're doing. There is no substantial changes. Look, here's the thing. I'm a huge proponent of CTE. Absolutely.
I think it's a good thing. But at the end of the day, what is that going to do to increase reading scores at fourth grade? What is that going to do? It's not. So, again. You know, I look at this and I'm like, you guys, and again, that's also dependent on a new tax. That's what they're not telling you.
So what they do when they give you these platitudes, look, I think two things are happening now. I've already outlined what the political game is and what's really happening. We all know this is all about 2026. But the reality is we have some alpha males down there. that are too proud, they will not tell you. And honestly, I think they've been used as a bunch of patsies this year by the Democrats.
The Democrats have manhandled them to the point they're out there taking a victory lap, and they don't even realize they've been used, and I think they're too proud to ever admit it. But at the end of the day... I got to tell they're not helping their own case.
They're not helping their own kids because when you call into a radio show and you tell your voters, if they don't agree with you, they haven't either read the bill, and if they've read it and they still don't agree with you, they're too dumb to understand it. That's not a winning position. Can I jump in real quick? Just one quick thing here, Amy. Go ahead, Joe. I would just like to say what you're talking about.
I would like to play Mike Showers' comment. This is just one comment on the win, if I could, for you. Go for it. Let's hear it. Let's hear it. We'll get Michelle. This is a win for us. It really is. And in some ways, it's a loss for the Democrats, these coalitions, because they have these big numbers and they don't want the policy. Now they have a much smaller number and a lot of policy that they didn't want. How is that a loss for us? And we did that as minorities.
Let me just say then, does that include all of the new DEI, million-dollar DEI policies? Does that include all of the administration policies? On and on and on. They just want to keep throwing more money at it instead of scaling back, seeing what's necessary to try to save the taxpayers money while also educating the children.
A normal person would, if they have a budget and they have a tight budget, sometimes you have to get some of the fat out. They don't ever address that issue. They just keep wanting to put more and more and more money. And I think it really says a lot when the... when the president of the Alaska NEA's kids go to charter school. Yet they're trying to cut all charter school funding, make it so hard for people to go to charter school.
And I will also say, you know, the enrollment in the ASC has gone way down. How come the price keeps just going up and up and up? And people are just pulling their kids out by droves. How come that? They never address the problem. What they're doing is they're growing this industrial complex. that can never be satisfied on the back of a very limited tax base.
and they're going to be driving people out. I've been here 54 years, born and raised in Anchorage, and my husband and I are already exploring in the next couple years where we can go to get out of Alaska. We don't want to leave Alaska, but we see the writing on the wall. Republicans better stand up or that's going to be happening with a lot of people. You know Michelle, I couldn't have said it any better.
I appreciate your voice of reason, and I appreciate your candor when you're willing to call in and talk about these issues, because everyday Alaskans like you and me, when we get together and we actually have these candid conversations, there's people that maybe, you know, they're busy with their lives. They hadn't heard the conversations, but they get to hear it, and they say, you know what?
They make sense, and they appreciate their candor. Thank you so much for calling in this morning. You're welcome. Bye, Amy. Bye-bye. All right, I want to do something really quick because I think it's important. Look, I have read this bill. It's called House Bill 57. You can go to akleg.gov and you can just look under bills.
and then click on it, and then just look for HB57, and when you click on it, then it will say full text. And you look down to the latest version of it, you click on the PDF, it'll pop up, right? Super easy to find it. I'm going to run through it really quickly. and just tell you what's in this bill because they keep telling you there's all this There's all this policy in there. But again, if policy isn't mandated, if it's in there as optional, or if it's dependent on funding that isn't there,
It's ineffectual. It doesn't matter. It's not going to happen. But here's what they keep talking about. Okay, so the first policy is they say it's going to cap class sizes. But really it doesn't cap class sizes because I had one of them admit to me off air that technically it's not mandated. All it's going to do is require school districts to set a target.
Set a target, right? Maximum classroom size. Each school district shall establish and make available to the public a target average class size policy for each grade level. It doesn't say they actually have to achieve it. So that's the first one. So again, there's one policy that they're touting, right?
And then they start talking about charter schools, right? And this new section says the application procedure must allow an application to be submitted at any time during the school year for the following school year. A local school board shall announce the deadline to submit an application for an establishment of a charter school for the following school year. So now you can apply for a charter school any time through the year. But guess what? There's no new authorizers.
So that doesn't mean, so the game hasn't changed. It's just when you can turn in your application has. The school board still says no. I know, I know. This is the kind of crap they're trying to convince you is going to be a cataclysmic change in educational outcomes. And then here's the other one that was pitched to me about it.
decision you know to the State Board of Education of a charter school if you appeal like the decline of it Now instead of 90 days to give you a decision, the state board has to make their decision in 45 days. Oh, that's a great change. Okay. Again, what is that going to do to improve fourth grade reading? Nothing.
And then they say right here, they have on here, they added a clause that outlines the procedures to establish or terminate a charter school. So that's added. But then when we get into the per student and funding. For transportation, in addition to the $700 BSA, the base student allocation formula increase, remember,
Now they're saying if kid reads on grade level or if they make an improvement, we'll give you, school district, an extra $400 per student. So now our BSA can potentially be up to $1,100. Oh, but this funding portion. to pay you to do your job, this funding portion is contingent on a new online tax. Okay. But when you look at the per student amount, and this is what's interesting.
It's not really 400. The average is about, the average, I mean, for reading, it's 400. But when we, then we talk about the transportation, they're saying, well, we're going to give an extra 10% for transportation. I mean, that money does not go to the charter schools. Let's be honest. The Anchorage School District, they keep the transportation money, so it's not going to go directly to benefit you. But when you start looking at the transportation bump, it's by district they've broken it down.
It is, in Alaska Gateway, $2,529 per student. Wow. In Bristol Bay, it's $3,247 per student. In Delta, $2,013 per student. $2,197 per student. I mean, when you get to Anchorage, it will equate to about $529 per student. And this is for the transportation piece. As I talked about, the other one they're saying is such a huge thing. It's the banning cell phones in schools.
But they're even admitting that they're not technically banning it. What they're doing is they're saying every school district has to create their own policy. So their biggest argument. which is we're going to take the distraction away from students. and we're going to make it so they're not distracted during school. This is what this will mandate. Oh, by the way, it doesn't really mandate it.
It just says that the school district has to set up a policy about it. We've got that in our own voice. I've got Yunt in his own voice on that one. All right, all right, all right. Should we take a break first? Yeah. All right, we're going to take a quick break. We'll be right back. Welcome back. Well, I want to play this quick audio clip because the biggest part of the bill...
is they're saying, this is a win for us because we're banning cell phones in school. And this is their big thing, right? Zach Fieldsville. This is actually what Robbie said on the floor about it. Cell phones are out. With that being said, I would never take away a district's ability to create their own policy. You know, I'm not a tyrant. So, you know, they can adopt their own policy if they want.
Okay, so cell phones aren't really out then because the school district can develop. I mean, that was on Picardo's show last night, right? It's not a mandate. Yeah, exactly. All right, well, I apologize to everybody because I've been a little slow on the draw this morning. I want to go to Mary real quick because she's been holding the longest. Mary, good morning. Good morning. Wow. Michelle and Bruce and you have said...
what I've been feeling for a long time and a lot, you've said that a lot better than I could. I just want you, I want to mention something pleasant after this. Anyway, what I want you to do is remind everybody. Come election time. And I know how frustrating this is. I am so frustrated. But this is the only way that we can fight. is to go and do our job, which means go vote these people out.
It's hard. It's hard. I know. It is hard, especially when you like the people. Like, I'm friends with a lot of these guys. I just disagree with them on this. But when they start insulting their own voters, I can't save them anymore. I know. I can't. Okay, let's hear your positive. I want to hear your positive. We have about 30 seconds. Okay. I just want everybody to know that the person at Microsoft...
Oh, we lost Mary. I don't know where we lost her to. I know. Mary, you cut out on us. I heard her say, though. She told Daryl on the break that there's a person, a high-ranking person at Microsoft that's actually from the Kenai Peninsula. So what Mary's telling us is we grow great people here in Alaska. I love it.
