The opinions expressed on this show are those of the host and not of iHeartMedia or its employees. Thank you for listening to NewsRadio 650. Amy Demboski. The show starts now. Outlines are open at 907-522-0650. This is The Morning Drive on NewsRadio 650 KENI. Good morning. It is Tuesday. March 18th. Daryl, you know, it's kind of my fault, I think, because I have been saying spring is here. I don't care what Mother Nature says. Well, Mother Nature just took a shot back at you.

Not at my house. My house is fine. Actually, you know what's really funny when you said that is? What's that? So when I got up this morning. of course i discover about four four and a half inches of snow in my yard and on my vehicle and i'm laughing to myself going really okay fine so i brush it all off and i come back inside and i have this brilliant thought let's go pull up a couple of traffic cameras and see just how

how much snow Amy got out at her house because there's an area around you where I can pull up a camera and get a general view of what your area is. No snow. I'm literally looking at the road going, that looks just like it did last night. That is not fair. The snow does start right about Peters Creek, Mirror Lake area is where the snow starts.

then, yeah, expect roads that are just, like, no lanes and, you know, blowing snow. But for those of you coming in from the valley thinking, oh, it's just a, yeah, get ready for it. Yeah, I was surprised a little when I saw your pictures that you sent me this morning. I will tell you, as I look at the weather around town, especially Palmer, Big Lake, Kenai, says we're supposed to get snow this morning.

but the daily high is over 30. So, like, I'm looking at Kenai right now. Currently, they're sitting at 23 degrees. They're calling for some snow down there, but the high is 33. Tomorrow, the high is 38, and it gets warmer and warmer into the weekend.

so it's not going to stick. I mean, it'll stick for a few, a little bit, but it's going to be gone tomorrow. I refuse to, like, look, when I looked at my lawn, like, I still have a little snow on my lawn, like a dust covering of snow on my lawn, but I didn't have to shovel my driveway.

You know, it's pretty much melted off my driveway and the roads. So the roads are fine. They're fine out here. Yeah, until I said, until you hit Peters Creek. Then, yeah, it becomes slippery, packed snow. And what's really funny is, is so we had the last... snow three days ago over the weekend. I didn't snow below my yard because I said exactly what you're saying. Temperatures are going up. Not going to do it.

Then we get, and it did, it dropped it down probably to about half of it. Then we get this on top of it. I think you need a shovel, Daryl. And now I'm looking at it today going. I'm probably going to need to get out here and do this. Even though the temperatures are going up, it's going to make it just sloppy as all get out if I don't do it.

Yeah, you got a little going on. Well, I'm looking at the temperature of my house right now, 23.3 on my weather station. So it's 23 degrees here in Palmer, Kenai 23, Big Lake 23. Fairbanks, negative two. So it's a little warmer, actually, up in Fairbanks. I'm doing 22 in here in Anchorage and, you know, scattered snow showers. I don't mean to laugh, but it's funny.

You know what's even funnier, though, is if you look at the daily forecast, the hourly, because I pull up an hourly forecast. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It says we're going to have snow showers through 8 a.m. to just about 9, in other words, through your whole show. Yeah, yeah. Then the temperatures are going to rise up, and then about, oh, 3 o'clock in the afternoon, oh.

Time of Mike show, snow showers again. And then 7 o'clock this evening starts rain-snow mix. Yeah. I'm not snowblowing now that I saw the rain-snow mix. I am not doing it. No, no. I've just got to say, you know, resistance is futile. Spring is coming. Spring is here. It's happening. It's going to be a wet and sloppy one for me.

I'm going to wait a few days before I have to drive into Anchorage or anything. I'm just throwing it out there that I'll just let all the snow melt. It'll be fine. Well, you know, the one thing that could be good with some of the snow is, you know, we'll see what happens. calling for Mount Spur to erupt again. And anywhere in the next two weeks to two months, I don't know. We covered this a little bit.

oh gosh it was probably back in december time frame they were saying it was going to happen too and i went out back then and i got extra filters for my car because we talked about this and you have to explain this because i was having a conversation with one of my friends at work And we're talking about the whole nylon thing. Can you explain to us again?

How do you do that? What is that? Okay, so the nylon, you take the nylon, and wherever your air filter is, you know, somewhere inside the little box, some people have the big round one on the top, you pop your air filter, you wrap the nylon around it so it seals the air filter in the nylon. And you can do double, triple layers if you want. In fact, the more layers you do, the better. And that basically what it does is it's an extra barrier for that ash to get to your filter.

Okay. Because when your filter plugs. You change the nylons instead of the filter. Well, you just bang them off. You don't even have to change them. You just bang it off because it'll fall right off those nylons. The key thing is you're trying to stop how much ash actually gets into the filter itself. Once that filter's plugged.

You got to throw it away and start over. Yeah. At least with the nylon on it, it gives you an extra, I can't even give you a time, but it gives you good protection. Trust me, when you pull it out and you bang it and you watch how much ash falls off, you're literally just like, oh, my God. Yeah, we had this whole discussion about it yesterday.

get daryl to explain it tomorrow but i did back in december went for our vehicles and got extra you know filters um just so we had them and you know it's there's probably going to be you're going to start seeing a lot more discussion and a lot more conversation about Mount Spur and what to do, my guess is there will be a run on people getting filters, you know. But now is the time because they're saying it could be in the next two weeks. It could be the next two months.

They're saying the activity over there is getting more and more. A lot of different places. You know, I got an email yesterday from the Anchorage Health Department saying, hey, what's your emergency operations plan in case this goes off? So you'll see that with a lot because you will see. potentially impacted, especially transportation services, because it's not good for your vehicles, right?

sucking in all that volcanic ash. It's bad. Well, that's the other thing, is get a backup oil for your vehicle. When I say oil, I mean enough oil and a filter for a full oil change, because if it does get into your engine, it's going to... into your oil and it will start what they call scarring of your cylinders and stuff so just a couple of little and when you put the pantyhose on don't don't stretch them don't don't stretch them out because you want

the pantyhose as small holes in it as possible to actually filter. So a little wrap on it. The more you stretch it, the wider you make the hole. So just kind of wrap it, not loosely, but enough that it covers it, and it will fit in that box again. Okay, see, there you go. You know, fashion tips by Daryl for your car.

Well, the other thing to remember is if there's a lot of volcanic ash falling, don't use your windshield wipers because you could scratch your windshield. You'll definitely scar it up there also. Yeah. So that's a reminder. One other quick thing. When I say pantyhose or nylons, not fishnet, people.

All right. Well, I'm sure one of these days, and we'll probably get into more. I'm sure the Office of Emergency Management has tips on their website, so that's always a good place to go. Ready.Alaska.gov is a good place. place to go for emergency tips I know the Anchorage Health Department and the Emergency Operations Center for Anchorage has been working on this so if those are both

Also good places to go for more information. If you're somebody who has breathing issues, you're definitely going to want to talk about, you know, staying indoors, keeping your windows shut. If you have commercial operations, you might consider shutting off your air intakes coming into the building because, of course, that ash is going to get everywhere. It's a bit of a mess. Gosh, last time spur erupted, was it what?

92? 92. That's what it was, yeah. Yeah, so I remember it, and I think, I mean, I remember it, like, lining all our cars, and it was quite the novelty, because we were pretty new to Alaska. I think we moved. to Alaska in 89. I remember going out and getting a little vial, like keeping it as a souvenir. I'm like, oh, look at this. It was a novelty. That is full Alaskan right there. The new guys get the little tiny vial of it.

Most Alaskans get like a mason jar of it, and then they put it on the shelf labeled with which ashfall it was. There you go. So they are anticipating that, so it's something to remember. All right, let me hit the...

announcements really quick if you're out here in the matoo borough there is a regular assembly meeting tonight this one's getting a bit of a buzz because there are some things on the assembly agenda that have gotten some people's attention and I would say the thing that's probably been most circulated

is the assembly resolution relating to SB 92. The sponsor of it has said he's going to change it to where it doesn't support SB 92. But I still recommend that people contact their assembly members or show up at the assembly meeting to let them know what your opinion is on it because I think it's helpful for people to get feedback

So that assembly meeting tonight in the Matsu borough will be at 6 p.m. Again, that's located at 350 East Dahlia Avenue in Palmer. If you need more information, just go to matsugov.us. As far as the city of Wasilla and Palmer, I didn't see anything on their calendar for today. In Anchorage, the Geotechnical Advisory Commission has an Amendment Review Committee meeting today for the International Building Codes. That will be at noon, and the location will be... Let's see

1400 West Benson Boulevard Suite 420 in the Pingo Conference Room. They also have a Microsoft Teams link, so if you need that, go to muni.org, click on the Mayor's tab, and then click on the Events tab, and you'll be able to... Let's find it there.

The Birch Tree Elmore Limited Road Service area has a meeting tonight at 530. They will be meeting at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, and that does it for boards and commissions today. The Anchorage Assembly does have a meeting tonight. It starts at 530. All those items for public testimony start at 6 p.m. Of course, they meet in the Lusack Library.

right there off of Denali Street, 3600 Denali Street in Anchorage. The assembly chambers are just in as you walk in to the left. Then as we move down to the Kenai, Let me just double-check here. The Kenai Peninsula Borough, yep, got to double-check, make sure on the right webpage, has a meeting tonight. It starts at 6 o'clock. It's publicly noticed from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Kenai Peninsula Borough Administration Building.

144 North Binkley Street in Saldana. Of course, it'll be in the council chambers. If you need more information, including their agenda, just go to kpb.us, and you'll be able to find it there. I'm going to skip the city of Kenai because I didn't see anything on their calendar today. City of Soldotna tonight has a Planning and Zoning Commission meeting at 530 in the City Council Chambers. If you need more information, just go to soldotna.org. And last but not least...

And we have a city of Homer. They have a library advisory board regular meeting tonight at 530. There's multiple ways that you can participate, I think, with this one. But let me just look at their agenda. I'm getting there, Daryl. I need the music. Here we go. It's at the City Hall Council Chambers in person, 530, which is, of course, located at 491 East Pioneer Avenue in Homer.

They also have a Zoom webinar link, so if you want to attend via Zoom, you can do that. If you need more information, just go to cityofhomer-ak.gov. All right, that does it for our public announcements for this morning. If you have an announcement... or something fun that you know that's coming up that you'd like to plug, we're always happy to do that. All you have to do is give us a call, 522-0650. We'll be right back.

Looking at your Alaska total traffic cameras on this Tuesday morning. Currently light traffic inbound on the Glen Highway. Snow starts showers through Wednesday with warming temperatures by Thursday. For Alaska's weather source, I'm meteorologist Air Morse. Amy Demboski, 628. Mornings on News Radio 650 KENI. Call now, 907-522-0650. welcome back current time 623 well the news is out in palmer

Finally, some stability and sanity. I'm very excited about this hire. It has been announced, this coming out of the ADN, Palmer to hire former Anchorage official as city manager. That's right, the Palmer City Council will hire former Anchorage deputy manager Colby Hickle Circle. So I will tell you, I worked with Colby. I was a big, yeah.

Colby Hickel is what I still call her, but she got married, so now it's Zirkle. It's really Zirkle. I just like the Zirkle at the last of it. I'm literally going, K-H-Z, that sounds like something electrical. It's cool, yeah. I was going to say, Colby is a gem. I've got to tell you, she is a rock star. manager she was the deputy city manager and the

The lady is sharp as a whip, no nonsense, very reasonable. And, you know, I'm seeing, you know, I'm just, I'm very excited. She had to go through the interview process, Daryl, three times. Three times. You know, it was interesting. I know because I was one of her references, and I had to write her references multiple times.

But it was like the council was very split in the beginning. I mean, there was a contingent on the council that really wanted to hire her from the get-go. And there was a little political stuff. And then they hired the jelly guy, you know, from out of state.

And that didn't work out very well, did it? There's more about him that I found out later that's quite interesting. Oh, my gosh. Me too. I know. I know. All it takes is a quick two-second Google search, and you're like, who in the world? Why would you hire him? I know.

I know, I know. I have friends that were on the council that said they were given advice they're not allowed to Google the candidates. Nonsense. I'm just telling you. If you're hiring anybody, always Google. It doesn't mean you have to believe it, but I don't... Frankly, lawyers' advice is just that. It's advice. But anyways, I digress. But Colby stuck with it, and she has agreed that she will be starting, it looks like, let's just see.

Zirgle will start the job in late April, Council's member said during the March 11th meeting. She has agreed to a salary of $170,000 plus relocation expenses to cover costs of moving. Anytime you're a city manager, generally they require you to live in the city. It's like the one position in government.

where you are required to live in the city, which I don't have a problem with. I think it makes a lot of sense. And moving to Palmer, you definitely are going to be moving. No doubt about it. So she will be joining the team over there at the city of... palmer um it says right here uh let me just get down to it because it's a lot a lot a lot

Zirkle said she has been watching city council meetings to keep up with current issues and hopes to create a quality workplace for city employees so Palmer can run smoothly. Here's a quote. Quote, I'm looking forward to working with everyone on the city council and serving with integrity, transparency, and collaboration.

with business leaders, residents, and everyone in the community. This is just going to be an open and transparent work environment, and we are going to move forward, end quote. This is exactly what Palmer needs. I've got to tell you, great hire by the city of Palmer. very excited to see her move out here. You know, Colby is the granddaughter of Governor Wally Hickel.

But I will tell you, she is impressive. They don't have all her resume here in there, but I know it because I'm the one who hired her in Anchorage. But she has an accounting degree. I think she has her MBA. I think she was vice president of TechPro, if memory serves. And, of course, you know, she actually has quite a tragic story. You know, she was married before, and her husband died in an avalanche.

And so after that, she ended up going to work back at the Captain Cook Hotel, and she ran all their marketing and stuff because, of course, that's her family's hotel. And it's really her skill set. She's super good in business development. She really is a hickle. She's a real Hickel. She's the daughter of Wally Hickel Jr. She's a real deal Hickel. I call them Hickel Hickels because they're an actual Hickel.

Yeah, but she's, like I said, she's interesting because, like I said, she's always wanted to be one of those people that made it on her own. you know she doesn't go around telling people i'm a hickle she doesn't do that no no and so it doesn't surprise me you know like she got yeah she doesn't she doesn't do that so she is impressive like i said i got to work with her i'm i'm

I'm friends with her. I know her very well. And she is going to do great things in Palmer. She's just a very reasonable person. So I'm excited to see the city of Palmer finally be able to, you know, things finally aligned, the stars aligned. They finally hired, and I like the fact that they hired somebody from in-state. That's really important. So does that make her a sweet hickle?

She's a Zirkle now. You're right. Zirkle. There we go. There we go. She's a Zirkle. Yeah, yeah. So congratulations to Colby. I'm very excited to see what she has. up her sleeve to be able to uh kind of you know get past the tumult that was steven jelly i think we've actually started to turn that corner so i think she'll be a great addition to the city of palmer so congratulations to her other news yesterday for a lot

Alaska News, did you see DHS Secretary Noem visited Kodiak? I was literally going, why didn't she come to Anchorage? She probably wanted crap, but I mean, I understand that. But yes, I thought that was cool. Yeah, so there's an article up in West Street, Alaska. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem visits Kodiak. The Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem co-piloted a C-130 surveillance aircraft during her visit to U.S. Coast Guard service members stationed at...

Kodiak, the visit was focused on supporting personnel stationed over 1,300 miles from the continental U.S. It said it gave her a chance to learn about security challenges in the 49th state. On Twitter, she wrote, got a chance to fly a C-130 out. of our u.s coast guard base in kodiak alaska air station kodiak is essential to our mission success for reconnaissance and search and rescue in alaska and the arctic end quote so she was it's good to see she's the first cabinet member so far

for this term for Trump that has come to Alaska that I'm aware of. I'm sure there's going to be a lot of them rolling up here so they can see exactly... what they're quote not protecting but what they're allowing to happen up here because yeah that was i guess the big thing i had a problem with when biden's people came up all they saw was oh the animals we need to protect them and and these beautiful areas

As opposed to, these areas are economically depressed. We need to get jobs into these areas. These areas need roads. These areas need everything else. Help us. Yeah, I think as we start seeing them, I wouldn't be surprised. You're going to see transportation, energy.

Bureau of Land Management, you're going to see all those ones. Anything that has to do with resource development, I think they'll be very in tuned to Alaska. And this is one of the standard questions Senator Sullivan asks everybody before he...

We'll even consider voting for him, it seems. He always asks them if they will commit to coming to Alaska because he's always trying to make sure that they understand, number one, how big our state is, number two, how important strategically our state is, and understanding the nuance. and challenges of the state. So Senator Sullivan has always been very aggressive about getting cabinet members to Alaska, which I think is very helpful because when you see it with your eyes, I mean,

A map just does not do Alaska justice. Not at all. And like you said, you really got to see, once you're in the middle of nowhere... Yeah. That it really is the middle of nowhere. Exactly. I mean, so when we talk about oil and gas development and you bring them up to the slope and they actually see how vast Alaska is and how difficult and how remote it is where they're.

they're developing i think it gives them a different perspective and i think it's helpful to have that um kind of first-hand experience also really important in that when you bring that up is when you're up on the north slope

in the summer or the winter, but particularly in the summer, the amount of animals that you see. The caribou coming through, the bears rolling through, the ducks, the geese. Everybody always makes it sound like wherever the oil fields are, they're desolated. The animals won't be there. That is so...

far from the truth. And they get to see that when they actually get up there physically and they're like, oh my gosh, look, I'm not a carer who didn't like oil. Well, and I will tell you, if you're going to develop oil and gas anywhere, Alaska's the place to do it. Anybody who works on the slope will tell you what happens if they drop, if they drop you know a little Dixie cup of oil on the ground I mean it is like

It's a big deal. So they're very, very conscientious when it comes to safety and it comes to environmental type stuff once they get out there. So it is a great place to develop. To your point, Daryl, it is a great place for a lot of these animals, you know, to live because, frankly, there's nobody hunting right next to the pipeline, first of all. But number two, you know, you do have, it is a very...

conscientious environmental program once they get out there developing. So it's not going to negatively impact the animals. I mean, come on. I have a caribou stick his head in my window every morning. And when I say head, he had a big old rack on him and he rattled that rack through the window, get it in there, stick it in, look it around the room, and pull it back out again. I never could figure out why. He's just like checking on me.

Nice, nice. All right, well, let's go ahead and take a quick break. We're hitting the bottom of the hour. The number to call at 522-0650 if you'd like to call in and be part of the show. We'll be right back. This is News Radio 650, KE&I, Anchorage. Some residents are uncomfortable with a new law in Anchorage. The measure requires bars, restaurants, and breweries to check IDs of anyone purchasing alcohol, no matter the age of the patron. Previously, only liquor stores.

stores were required to check IDs for every sale. Alaska's state ombudsman is stepping down. Kate Burkhardt has announced she plans to resign next month after eight years in the role. Burkhardt says she's moving to Maine to be closer to family. The state ombudsman is a nonpartisan role that serves as checks and balances for the government.

Welcome back. Current Time 638 on this Tuesday morning. Well, you know, I didn't hear about this story on Sunday, but yesterday I was reading the ADN. Yes. I do it for you because I love you guys. Somebody's got to do it. Somebody's got to. Somebody's got to do it. And sometimes, like I said, you just have to filter out some of the political stuff. But this is a story that I saw in their crime scene.

I hadn't heard of it. Wasilla police officer kills a man who fired on him, according to troopers. This happened on Sunday out near Settlers Bay, apparently. 34-year-old Wasilla man was shot and killed by a police officer late Sunday. after the man fired on the officer's cruiser with a rifle, according to troopers. Troopers said the incident followed a 911 report of domestic disturbance near Settlers Bay around 10 p.m. As troopers and police responded, the people involved in the disturbance

got out of the home and left the area, was still a resident, Brett George, put on, this is a quote, put on body armor, armed himself with an assault rifle, and then left the residence in a vehicle, end quote. Okay, that's somebody who's prepared for something. Yeah.

The Wasilla officer initiated a traffic stop on George's vehicle near the residence. He briefly stopped, but then fled, and law enforcement initiated a pursuit. George got out of his vehicle at the intersection of KGB and Settlers Bay Drive. and fired the rifle.

Add a fully marked Wasilla police car. And then it goes on to say, quote, the Wasilla police officer returned to fire striking George, end quote. He was declared dead at the scene. His body was taken by the state medical examiner's office. No law enforcement. were injured, according to this article.

It is sad all the way around. And to your point, it sounds like that's what it was. I take one exception of that when they say that no one was injured because the police officer that shot them is injured. Their mental state. I mean, that's got to tear you up to take a person's life. So, I mean, I don't know. Yeah, I will tell you, it's a sad situation all the way around, but, you know, I've got to be honest with you. I look at them, I'm glad the officer wasn't hurt.

And maybe I'm just too cold, but I've got to be honest. I've said it before. Like, if you shoot at a police officer, I have no sympathy for you. Zero. When they return fire, you expect what you get. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. My sympathy comes to the family who's literally left going, why? Oh, yeah. You know? Well.

You know, look, I mean, the family of this guy that got shot, I feel terrible for them, too, right? Because I'm sure they didn't want this to happen, and I'm sure they didn't want him to shoot at a police officer. I'm sure, you know, I'm sure it's sad. all the way around but as far as the the guy that got shot by the police officer like what do you expect is going to happen if you're going to shoot at a police officer you have no you have no regard for human life what is

the rest of us wouldn't have a chance, right? Yep. So I just, all the way around, these are always sad stories to cover, but I'm just, I'm very thankful that, you know, nobody else was shot in this instance. It was just the perpetrators, so. I don't think they've released the name of the whistle officer at this point involved, but typically they wait two days before they do, but it should be coming out here pretty soon.

Switching gears a little. So have you been watching Slick Willie? And by Slick Willie, I mean Gavin Newsom. Actually, I thought you were talking about the original Slick Willie. And I'm like, no. What do you do? No. What's Gavin up to? Pretty boy Gavin. Pretty boy Gavin. So he started this podcast, right? Well, look, let's start the conversation with we all know he's running for president in 2028.

right this is what this is all about what he realizes is number one at first he was a terrible mayor of san francisco he was a terrible governor of california his record is just abysmal Right. So he's got to spend the time in rehab and he's got to moderate. And it was interesting because on his new podcast, he had Charlie Kirk on. And he's been courting conservatives to come onto his little podcast because, you know, obviously, look.

Liberal podcasters aren't nearly as popular as conservative podcasters. It's the same with radio, right? The conservatives always do better on radio than the liberals do. I just want to say in the battle of ideas, I think our ideas win. So I think it's just common sense. And we don't cancel people.

Yeah, that's right. That's exactly right. If somebody disagrees with us, we're like, hey, we'll put you on. See, in my view, I look at it like maybe I'm missing something. But also, let me just let a liberal talk because typically they sink their own ship. I'm just saying, the more they talk, the more people listening usually are like blowing up my phone going, this guy is an idiot. I'm like, I know, right? But you got to let him talk. So I have no problem with that.

But Gavin is bringing on these, he's really courting conservatives to come on a show, and he's trying to moderate. He's trying to be like, oh, yeah, I'm like, he's so slick. And, you know, I just kind of laugh because. It's like the DeSantis Newsome debate that Sean Hannity hosted. I mean, Slick Willie was on display. And I will tell you, DeSantis wiped the floor. DeSantis knew the facts, knew the data, and was able to call him on every glass, but he can lie with a smile and that.

You know, that California plastique that you see all over. You could see it, and it's just like you would not, unless you know the facts. I mean, he seems believable. He seems lit. But DeSantis just destroyed him, right? And because DeSantis. knew the facts so he's interviewing charlie kirk and he basically he basically now is taking the position that boys shouldn't be in girls locker rooms

But here's the thing. Did he not sign the law enforcing it? And actually, if you don't affirm people's genders, like you can lose your kids in California. Yep. Yep. Like, so you can't, your actions speak much louder than your words. So Gavin Newsom, though, is trying to rewrite history right now. That's exactly what he's doing. But I kind of chuckled a little bit.

Because Breitbart has an article up now, and now they're calling him Podcaster instead of Governor Gavin Newsom. Podcaster Gavin Newsom needs another $2.8 billion loan. for Medi-Cal to cover illegal aliens. Remember when he came out and he was going to, we are going to give them health care and they deserve it. It's a human right. Well, Last week he came out, basically, they were $6 to $8 billion in the hole with this program. So last week he came out.

asking for $3.44 billion to cover the program that expanded health care to illegal aliens in California. This week, he's come back out and asking for another $2.8 billion. to keep Medi-Cal going. That's the state's Medicaid plan. And again, they expanded it to cover illegals. Right. But they can't give good service to American citizens themselves because we're so overextended. I know. I'm just saying. I know California is the biggest state.

you know population wise and whatnot but when we're talking about this level i mean of of you went into the hole for a program that you just expanded what was it last year it was like not that long ago I'm just saying, I don't trust you with the nation's checkbook. Don't trust you. Not to mention, when you looked at him on the podcast, were you able to see any pictures of his studio or anything?

Well, I saw where they were sitting. I mean, I watched... I'm just curious if he has any busts of himself in the area. A bronze bus. No, that's in City Hall in San Francisco, apparently. Yeah, but why only have one? Come on. This is Gavin. Oh, man. Just keep watching, though, because the whole point of this whole thing is Gavin Newsom is going to pull an Ethan Berkowitz. Because this is what Ethan did, right? Ethan went on the air in Anchorage for a year with Bernadette.

And he had a show, and we all knew it was him to get his name out there so he could run for mayor. And, you know, it was very successful. I mean, he did a good job of trying to convince people he was kind of a moderate. Daryl, I can't do that. Daryl's reminding me of the butt pictures. Sorry, I was just saying, I can't reach over my shoulder far enough, so I was just remembering it.

But that's the game, frankly, that Gavin Newsom is playing, right? He's trying to go into the Joe Rogan world of podcasts, and he's trying to moderate, and he's trying to pull all these conservatives on and say, look, I can work. with these people look I'm just like you don't be fooled Gavin Newsom will say anything

anything to get elected president of the United States. He will say anything. And the most important thing is what is his record? Because he has a very lengthy record. So what does his record say? His records say he was a crappy mayor. He was a terrible governor. So that means I think he would be a cataclysmic, awful.

President of the United States. But that's just me. That's just me. But you are going to start seeing Gavin Newsom now more and more and more because he is trying to work his way into the moderate type circles. But I will say...

We'll see what happens, but his record says something else. But definitely make no mistake about it. People are already jockeying for position for the 2028 presidential election. All right, we're going to go ahead and take a quick break. If you'd like to call in 522-0650.

Looking at your Alaska total traffic cameras on this Tuesday morning. Steady traffic now inbound on the Glen Highway. Roads are slippery out there starting at the lower 30s. We'll keep with those light snow showers through Wednesday with warming temperatures by Thursday. For Alaska's weather source, sign me. Now back to the boss, Amy Demposki. Call 907-522-0650 and be a part of the show on NewsRadio 650. KENI.

Well, today will be a big day for NASA and for SpaceX because the stranded NASA astronauts are supposed to touch down just before 6 p.m. Eastern Time today. They had a weather window, which looked favorable, so they moved it up by a day. So according to Breitbart, NASA astronauts Sonny Williams and Butch Wilmore were on their way home Tuesday after being stranded on the International Space Station for 286 days. Their return is thanks to, in no small part,

to the combined drive and ambition of President Trump and Elon Musk to get them home. The pair decided to accelerate the astronauts' return. and laid the blame for their troubles on the, it said, the Biden administration. Blah, blah, blah. Well, it's true. I mean, the Biden administration, what effort did they have?

It didn't seem like there was a fire lit under them to get them home at all. It was supposed to be a very short trip, and it ends up being like nine months long. Well, to start with, multiple flights have gone up to the space station to resupply it and do other things. Any one of those, they could have...

put on passengers, but they chose not to. Not to mention when they sent them up, it was on an experimental flight. So that was kind of risky to start with. But it is nice that Marianne and Gilligan are back on the planet. Yeah, well, I was going to say almost on the planet. They'll be here tonight. That's right, it's an afternoon. Eastern time. Yeah, yeah, Eastern time. So that will be a big thing to watch for. You know, it's interesting. The mainstream media is not really highly covering.

This... Like, I got to be honest with you. This is Joe Biden. It would be all that's this is all they'd be talking about. I mean, we've seen you've probably seen it. I've seen it. But I've been watching some videos and stuff of them as they greeted people and as they were starting to. takeoff and it's been on fox news and i've seen it in different places but i think this would be 24 7 everywhere if this was the biden administration absolutely you know but it's elon musk so you know

Lord help us if we compliment Elon Musk. And so they just can't bring themselves to do it. Can't do it. They've got the Elon Musk derangement. Derangement syndrome, remember we talked yesterday about the Trump derangement syndrome, the one lawmakers want to make it a legal thing. Yeah, in Minnesota. I think it's derangement syndrome.

with whatever letter on the front of it, because it's become a real thing. I mean, it really has. Well, I've got to tell you, it's just so ironic to me when you think about the left. And think about, you know, one way to get them away from the electric cars is just make Elon Musk a conservative. Think about it. Think about it. You know, it's really funny. And I watched this last night on one of the Fox shows, and they were talking about Marquette.

who actually is a real-world astronaut, right? Mark Kelly, he's also a Democrat. And so, you know, he had this video where he's, like, getting rid of his Tesla. And it was on Gutfeld last night. That's where I saw it.

so mark kelly's getting rid of his tesla and you know he's getting rid of it and he says has these you know like jabs at elon musk and he's trading it in for you know a chevy and all this kind of stuff and i laugh because i'm like the left now has put themselves like literally in the worst positions ever we've talked about this a little bit But, you know, now they're arguing to keep boys' and girls' locker rooms.

which the majority of Americans are like, that's insane. Number two, now they're arguing to keep illegal gang members and terrorists in the U.S. Now they're saying, get rid of your election. Well, thank you. I mean, you know, I kind of laugh because they're abject disgust and, you know, moral.

leanings is based on what policy Donald Trump has because whatever Trump has they have to do the opposite I mean that's what it seems like everything they're doing you just look at it and you're like this makes no sense but Here they are, Mark Kelly, rather than saying the one guy in Congress who could say, as a former astronaut, thank you to Elon Musk. This is something we can all get along and agree that this is a good thing.

Oh, no. Oh, no. Elon Musk is the devil. He's terrible. He's horrible. Well, I think this is a great national thing that is happening, that he's using his company. They're going up. They're saving these astronauts. I think everybody should be able to celebrate that, whether you're a Democrat or Republican. This isn't really a political issue. This is a human issue. And I think it's a good thing. But, you know, again.

Democrats will not, no matter what Trump does, I think he's right. I think he could find the cure for cancer and they'd still criticize it. All right, we're going to take a quick break. We're hitting the top of the hour. If you'd like to call in, 5-2-2-0-7. Thanks, Bethy. Have you ever wondered if your pet is lying to you? Why is my cat not here? And I go in and... Thank you for listening to News Radio 650 KNR.

I love it. So we appreciate it. Daryl does his magic right after the show every day. He uploads the podcast, you know, into the iHeart universe. And then it trickles down. And then when it's available. then you'll know. Yeah, some days it's right up there, other days...

I'll come back in the afternoon and it's still not there after I've gotten a thousand messages from people. So, you know, I try to get up there. Like I said, I always get it up in the morning. It's just whether or not it filters back out through the system. I still can't figure out what slows it down. Oh, you know, it just is. If it was consistent...

It would be too easy, Daryl. So what can I say? You know, today will be a big day, a very big day. You know, Trump has said he's going to declassify the JFK files. He's going to declassify Robert Kennedy. you know, his assassination, the MLK Jr. assassination, he's going to declassify all those. We're expecting an 80,000 page dump today. And Trump said he believes that it's not going to be, there's not going to be be any reductions on it or at least very few

Yeah, so we'll see what they actually come up. But he says, no, I said I would do it. He's like, we're going to declassify it. It's going to be out. Interesting enough, you know, I was listening to Tucker Carlson the other day. And did you see this when he was talking about the JFK files? I'm not sure. I've seen a couple of little clips on him. Yeah, and so it was fascinating. I should have pulled the audio clip, but, you know, sometimes I get busy. I had things to do.

But I was listening to it, and he was talking about the, basically, I don't want to say the deep state, because he didn't use that term, but he was talking about D.C. Let's put it that way. And he was talking about the declassification of the JFK files. And he's like, you know, some people were concerned about who Trump was going to put in for his intelligence because they said, no, no, you know, Kash Patel or Chelsea Gabbard. Like, you know, these are people that.

like potentially could, you know, completely declassify this and, you know, basically indicating it's a bad thing. And he was, Tucker wasn't saying this. He was saying that there was a politician that was saying this. And so press a little further. See, this is why I say, once you get to D.C., you've got to be careful. It's both sides. You know who the senator was who was pushing not to declassify the JFK files? I'll bite who.

Tom Cotton. Really? That surprises me. Republican. Yep. Yep. Now I want to read these files because I want to know why. What does he know that we didn't know? I got to tell you. I have been one for a long time that has believed the government knows a whole lot more and was probably involved somehow in the JFK assassination. Like, I've got to be honest with you. Just like when we have the conversations about Bigfoot. Got to be honest with you. I don't trust one iota.

Yeah, Daryl's getting his tinfoil helmet. I don't trust one iota that the government did not have some sort of involvement at all in the JFK assassination. I'm absolutely right here with you now. A little bit of equity from my helmet, but I'm right here with you. Yeah, so I can't wait to see, you know, what comes out of it. Breitbart has the article up.

President Donald Trump revealed that roughly 80,000 pages of federal government files regarding the assassination of former President John F. Kennedy would be released to the public on Tuesday afternoon. Here's a quote from Trump. We are tomorrow announcing and giving all of the Kennedy files, so people have been waiting for decades for this, and I've instructed my people that are responsible. Lots of different people put it together by Tulsa Gabbard.

He says, we have a tremendous amount of paper. You've got a lot of reading. The President stated, I don't believe we're going to redact anything. I said, just don't redact. You can't redact. But we're going to be releasing the JFK files, end quote. So he goes on to say that he promised in his campaign that he would do it, and he's a man of his word, so he's doing it. So today we're going to see that data drop of the JFK assassination files, and we'll see what the government has.

We'll see. I don't know. We'll see. You know, it's kind of like it was surprising to me as we had these conversations where they're like, oh, surprise, we have more documents than we thought we had. I don't believe for one second they don't know what they have. I believe... I believe...

We'll see. We'll see if there's games in the swamp. Because the games in the swamp would be, did they disclose everything to the people on Trump's team? That's the first question. You know, P.M. Bondi's dealing with this right now with the Epstein files. So we'll see what happens. But the reality is, you know, this assassination happened in 1968. I think it's time. I think it's time. There's no reason not to.

You know, there might be an argument on national security issues, but I think there has been a massive abuse of the classified process for a long time. And I think that abuse has hidden the bad behavior. of a lot of different politicos, whether it was assets within the government, whether it was employees of the government or programs of the government. I think the government has used the classified process.

for decades to hide their bad behavior or bad behavior of others. And I think it's time that that whole process gets reviewed, frankly. I think it's time. Because I think... I think what we're probably going to see, if this is anything like what we've seen with USAID or expending or whatnot, I will tell you, I think there's been massive abuses in the classified process. That's my opinion. Do I know that for a fact? No. But common sense tells you one plus one is two. Exactly.

You know, so we will see. I mean, I hope Trump is aggressive at declassifying a lot of stuff, not just the assassination files. I think, you know, some people don't like it when you say, oh, we're going to be transparent, but that's exactly what we need. a little transparency in the process and you know interesting enough segueing to another topic

You know, this judge that potentially, yeah, that was trying to bring Trendea Uruguay back, you know, it's fascinating. As I'm watching different reporters and stuff post, It's very fascinating. Clearly, he's exceeded his authority. No single judge has the authority to overrule the president of the United States executive orders or military operations or his authority.

to basically expel or uh you know stop an invasion no single district court judge has that authority if if any court is going to weigh in on limitations on president presidential power the only body that could do that in my opinion is the supreme court

Oh, I agree fully on that. Did you hear the latest on that? At least the latest I heard. The judge, you know, because he made the order, but supposedly the planes were already in the air and heading for El Salvador. Yeah. You know what his answer was? that, why didn't they turn the planes around and bring them back? Because you're not the President of the United States, you lunatic.

Well, you also don't just turn a plane around in the air. By the way, come back to home base. Well, here's the thing. No judge. No single judge has the authority to order military operations, period, end of discussion. And now it gets even better because now the DOJ is basically making the argument, you know what, before I get into the argument,

We're break time. Let's go ahead before we get deep into this. There's a lot more coming out about this judge. It reminds me a lot about the New York judge. I'm just saying there's some similarities that I'm seeing creep up. And there may be some familial relationships that maybe could be interesting. So we're going to go ahead and take a quick break. When we come back, we'll get into this a little bit. If you'd like to call in, 522-0650.

Looking at your Alaska total traffic cameras on this Tuesday morning. It's a snowy one out there here in the Anchorage Bowl area. Snow showers through Wednesday with warming temperatures by Thursday. For Alaska's weather source, I'm meteorologist Aaron Morse. You're listening to live. Get on the show now by calling 907-522-0650.

You are going to see lots of throwdowns in court relating to the Trump administration, because this is what the left does. They employ lawfare to try to slow him down, because if they can slow him down, and look, ultimately they're... going to lose, especially when it comes on these deportations and stuff. The reality is the president has broad authority.

No single judge can overrule a president's authority, whether it is to, you know, to deport an illegal when it comes to, you know, again, in this particular case, he's using a law that effectively has been on the books for a long time that says if there's basically a foreign invasion, he can repel those foreign invaders, right? I mean, I'm breaking it down for you as simple as I can. The DOJ was in court yesterday arguing that the court lacks jurisdiction.

after the judge tried to block the President's use of the Alien Enemies Act. Now tell me in the Constitution, where it gives any single judge the authority to block the president from using his legal authority. It isn't there. And that's what the Department of Justice is effectively arguing. So according to Breitbart, the DOJ responded to U.S. District Court Judge James Bosberg's blocking President Donald Trump's usage of the Alien Enemies Act to deport suspected members of the veterans.

Miss Willingang, Trenjay-Oragua, saying the court lacks jurisdiction to interfere. In the legal filing, Attorney General Pam Bondi called for the court to vacate the hearing and de-escalate the grave incursions on executive branch authority that have already arisen.

Fox reports the judge denied the Trump administration's motion to vacate, cancel the hearing. Plaintiffs cannot use these proceedings to interfere with the president's national security and foreign affairs authority, and the court lacks jurisdiction to do so, according to the DOJ.

It goes on to say, in response to plaintiff's filing and this court's order setting a hearing for this afternoon, the government submits the below response because it provides the necessary information to confirm the government's compliance. Then it goes on and on and on.

Well, what is this really coming down to? What is really coming down to is the DOJ is arguing just what I told you. They're arguing no district court judge has the authority to block the president from using his constitutional and legal authority as president of the united states trump in his in his trump-esque way went to social media

And on Truth Social, he posted, the radical left lunatic of a judge, a troublemaker and agitator, who is sadly appointed by Barack Hussein Obama, was not elected president. He didn't win the popular vote. By a lot. and he goes on to talk about i mean in typical trump fashion he goes on to say

He didn't win all seven swing states. He didn't win 2,750 to 525 counties. He didn't win anything. I won for many reasons in an overwhelming mandate, but fighting illegal immigration may have been the number one reason for this historic victory. i'm just doing what the voters wanted me to do this judge like many of the crooked judges i'm forced to appear before should be impeached

We don't want vicious, violent, and demented criminals, many of them deranged murderers in our country, make America great again. So that's what Trump posted on social media. Now here's the interesting part. What this judge is basically he gave the DOJ a list of questions to answer. How many planes left at any time Saturday based solely on the proclamation? How many people were in each plane? In what country did the planes land?

time did they take off and land when were they in airspace what time were individuals on the plane transferred to custody so the interesting thing about this Effectively, you have to remember, many of these operations are being held and done by law enforcement agencies, and many of these operations are frankly going to have classified information in them. Right.

Meaning, you know, specifically what time did they take off? Specifically what time were they in airspace? Some of these things are operational security issues. I want to know where the judge's security clearance is. I don't know that he has the authority to see this information. I know judges can mandate certain things. I take this one to the Supreme Court. I'm telling you. The judge is asking specifically for...

For operational information, that could be very damaging to the U.S. if you end up giving some of it out. And that's exactly what is being, I think, going to be argued. I think you're going to see the argument. that some of this stuff is going to have to remain classified for operational security reasons. There's going to be reasons that you don't release this.

I had to laugh, though, because I saw a post from somebody, and the left wing liked to call her a right wing activist. Have you ever heard of Laura Loomer? Oh, of course. Yeah, so Laura Loomer posted on social media yesterday. And this is, again, somebody that the left classifies as a conspiracy theorist and a...

and a right-wing activist. But Laura Loomer posted, breaking, less than 12 hours after I exposed Judge Jane Bosenberg's conflict of interest with his daughter, Catherine Bosenberg, who works for a 501c3 called Partners for Justice that gives criminal illegal aliens and gang members legal advice, Katherine Bosenberg has deleted her LinkedIn page and her Instagram account. So, okay, if this is true,

Now, I went to LinkedIn and her page is gone. It says the page is no longer available. I did go to LinkedIn to check out Catherine Bosenberg. And now it says the page does not exist. And it used to have a LinkedIn link. And so when I clicked on it, it's gone now. And I do have the Partners for Justice page in front of me. And it says that Catherine Bosenberg does work there. It says she spent her last two years at the Center for Justice Innovation.

where she worked as a case manager so i will tell you if if this checks out and this is in fact his daughter I would say the judge absolutely has a severe conflict of interest in this case. And boy, does that do sound like Alvin Bragg there. I got to tell you. So Laura Loomer may be on to something with this one, but it will be interesting because, like I said, if you can have any district judge across the country, and they've tried to do this, right? They've tried to say the president.

the United States doesn't have the executive authority to to dictate what staff he can hire and fire. He does. You know, we've seen courts now step in and try to say, oh, no. You remember when they tried to put limitations on what the Treasury Secretary could access? Yep. That's not the role. of the court you don't get to go into the executive branch and assign which staff can do what tasks

That's not your job. That is not your role. They've also tried to say, go into the executive branch and tell them what things they have to spend money on and what things they can't cut. That's not the court's role either. So we're talking about expenditures relating to dead people. You can't force the government to keep paying for fraud. That's not the court's role.

You can't do that. And so as we start to look at these different things, what the courts are stepping in, and now they're stepping in, and they're telling the President of the United States, basically, you can't conduct military operations. You can't conduct national security operations. And any individual judge at any time can direct the flight of a plane? I don't think so.

So this is why I say the Supreme Court at some point is going to step in, but this is the left's game. They know these things aren't going to hold up, so they will try and try and try to slow him down as much as possible. In a year or so, when the Supreme Court finally hears the case, Trump wins, but guess what? You're at midterms. So they basically neutralized him for his term. That's what they're trying to do. This isn't about winning the war for them.

For them, the war is the election, the next election. We just had a caller, Bill, called in, literally saying what you're saying. They know that these district court judges aren't going to win, but you know what they allow you to do? They allow the newspapers – well, no, they allow the newspapers to say he's obstructing things or that he's going against the courts. It's all about that soundbite. It's all about the ability to say –

Donald Trump is disregarding the judiciary. I mean, right now I've been hearing it multiple times on him that he's gone crazy. He doesn't listen to the judges. We're in a dictatorship now. Well, and this is my thing. These judges, look, you're going to have to get, if they're going to be impeached, you're going to have to get the votes in the Senate. You probably don't have them. You probably can't overcome a filibuster. I mean, that's the reality.

There needs to come a point where these judges are really scrutinized, and I think they need to be far more aggressive about holding them to the letter of the law. They are absolutely lawless. I mean, when you see how the Trump derangement syndrome is real with these people.

And when you have judges that potentially have conflicts of interest that haven't recused themselves, I mean, frankly, that's a reason to take them off the bench in itself. That is a reason to take them off the bench. So I will. eagerly be watching to see if there is more to come with this whole potential conflict with this judge is it true don't know yet i think there needs to be more digging into it just because they have the same last name is it really his daughter that's my question

But if it is, it's a real issue. But in my view, just even without any of that, this judge has exceeded his authority. He's not the President of the United States, nor does he have the opportunity to direct military operations. That's not his job. And so again, I think this is a game of the left.

you know they judge shop and frankly i think dc the dc circuit should be absolved i think it should be dissolved dissolved i mean that's the word i was going for it should be dissolved i think it should be it should be dispersed into other because it is a swamp cesspool and at this point The decisions, how, explain to me, Daryl, how the same judges keep over and over again, keep getting Trump things, right? The same judges over and over and over again keep.

Keep being the ones to issue the same decisions against Trump, whether it was in his personal criminal trials or whether it was these other ones. That's my point. It's supposed to be random. And clearly it is not. So there needs to be a real look at how these cases are getting assigned, number one. But number two, you know, judge shopping is real.

Clearly, it's evident in my mind that's what's happening. And I think this is highlighting for us another opportunity to make some reform. And I think it's gotten the attention of some in the Senate Judiciary. I think you're going to start seeing problems. probably hearings in both the house and the senate judiciary relating to some of these judges and how they're operating because again if you have a way look if you have a wayward judge like this

There's been many. And they're able to absolutely stop and handcuff the President of the United States from doing his job. exercising authority that's granted to him by law in the Constitution, then you don't really have a presidency. You don't really have that. You're run by the judiciary, and that was never the intent of the framers. All right, we're going to take a quick break. If you'd like to call in, 522-0650. We'll be right back. Waking up on the right side.

This is the Sean Hannity Morning Minute. Maybe they could stand for a young man that beat his battle with cancer that has a dream of being in law enforcement or... A woman that lost her hero husband in law enforcement or a young man that lost his father that was told he got into West Point. But if you look at these polls, it's an unmitigated disaster.

You know, the NBC poll, for example, just 25% of registered voters say they have a positive view of their party. These are Democrats saying this about their own party. And that is a record low. If you want to go back historically, it's the lowest number that they've had since 1990. Believe it or not, the lowest positive approval rating since 1990. From coast to coast, from sea to shining sea, it's the Sean Hannity Show.

Are you taking steps to help protect your money from the potential impact of World War, Russia and Ukraine? Israel, Gaza, we've seen threats from Iran, and now Syria has been taken over by extremists, putting the entire region at risk. The question is, how much more international conflict can we handle? And what impacts will these conflicts have on the global economy and your world?

retirement savings. Right now, thousands of hardworking Americans are turning to precious metals like gold and silver to help them protect their hard-earned savings. You may not be able to control these global conflicts around the world, but you can control how you diversify your money.

Anchorage. New details are coming to light regarding the police killing of a man in Wasilla. Alaska State Troopers say 34-year-old Brett George fired an assault rifle at a police car before officers opened fire, killing him Sunday night. Police were in the area searching for him after someone called 911 to We'll be right back.

the National Volcano Early Warning and Monitoring Systems Act, which expired in 2013. The move comes as officials continue to monitor Alaska's Mount Spur, which is expected to erupt within the coming weeks. And the Palmer City Council is welcoming a new city manager. Council members are hiring former Anchorage deputy manager Colby Hickle Zirkle for the job. She will replace longtime city manager John Moosey, who announced that he's retiring. That's the latest. I'm John Fink.

News Radio 650 KENI, your pipeline to the world. Looking at your Alaska Total Traffic cameras on this Tuesday morning. It's a snowy one out there here in the Anchorage Bowl area. So if you're coming into Anchorage, be ready for 522-0650. Welcome back. Current time, 741. We're going to go straight to the phone. So we'll start with Denise. Good morning, ma'am. Hi. Good morning. Yeah, we got you. You sound great.

Great. Thank you for that report on the presence thing. By the way, I have two things. One is the Alaska attorneys, the Alaska Bar Association, carefully screens all the candidates for judges, and they screen it with their filter of liberalism and progressivism. So we have a very liberal bar, too. And Judge Zeman is up for being the Alaska Federal District Court, and people were trying to remove him. So I don't know what's going to happen, but just heads up, folks, it's here too.

Hey, the reason I called in was I looked at my ballot, and it's missing Proposition 10, which is an additional tax levy, an annual $3.5 million tax levy. And I called the... the city elections department to ask him about i said i think it's a defective ballot and the lady i talked to said um oh no it's just because you're not in this service area and i said well yeah but

That's true because I'm only in South Anchorage, but the municipality's full faith and credit needs to go with that, just like it does with Proposition 11 and 8. And eight deals with Girdwood, and I had that on my ballot. So I don't live in Girdwood. Anyway, I think everybody should take a close look at their ballots because I think there's something to be affected here. She passed the call on to somebody in her office, the mail.

who has not called me back or anything. And I just think there's a problem here. This is a tax, a separate tax besides the property tax. 10 and 11 are each creating new taxes. in addition to property tax. And it's important that people have a chance to vote on that.

Well, it's very typical. For example, when you see propositions in Chuyack, Eagle River, or Girdwood, oftentimes on the ballot language, everybody votes on it, and it will say, only the property owners in this district will pay for it. But because, to your point, it's backed by the full faith and credit of the municipality as a whole, typically everybody votes on it. Right. Yes. It wasn't on my ballot.

That's a problem. Well, I'd love to know what the clerk's office says about that because Proposition 10 is a 3.5 million ARTSA. It's the Anchorage Road and Drainage Service Area snow response and fleet. special levy tax. So anybody who lives in ARTSA, which is the Anchorage Road Service Area area, anybody who lives in that area, they're the ones that are going to be initially paying for it. But if they default, it becomes everybody.

Nobody's responsibility to pay for it. So it's not an insignificant one. It's $3.5 million. So I'd love to know what the clerk's office says to you because typically... what we would see is everybody votes on bonds like that, but the people that are actually levied are the ones that live inside of the service area. Right. And it should be on the ballot anyway. I mean, I'd...

I do not want another tax. And it's an annual tax. It's every single year. Yeah. No, good point. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Thank you for your hard work and your good work. Oh, thank you so much, Denise. All right. Bye-bye. All right. Let's go to Michelle. Good morning, Michelle. Good morning, Amy. I just wanted to, you saw that the $1,000 BSA increase passed in the Senate.

And I see that Julie Cologne, who's supposed to be a Republican, voted for it. And this is not the first time that she's voted with the Democrats. And I would like her to come on your show and explain why. I will make that invitation. I will send her a note today and ask her to come on. I was surprised and disappointed to see she made that vote as well. So I will make the invite. I will do that.

And sorry, let me just say, because if she's listening, you know, she needs to come on and explain herself because she knows the importance of these days that we're in right now. And she has basically shown herself just like young.

to be a traitor and she needs to come on and explain herself to all of the people that voted for her because I will tell you very much I am peeved and I'm going to do everything in my power to highlight rhino republicans really democrats that do this kind of stuff and betray the people that vote for them

You know, Michelle, I will tell you, your district has a lot of talent in your district because I've already had a couple conversations from people that live in that district that are very upset with Julie Colom over this vote. And there is an effort afoot. to already find a candidate, another candidate to run. You know who else lives in that district? I'm just saying, Bob Griffin lives in that district. Yeah, I've been to his house at some meetings, so I know.

Yep, yep. So that's what I'm saying. There's great people in that district, Michelle. Maybe we could talk you into running. I'm just saying, we need people who actually do what they say they're going to do. I don't think people can handle me, but trust me, I'm not about it. Well, we should talk offline because I have a feeling we need good people to stand up, and it's not always easy, and I know it's a sacrifice to serve, but at the end of the day, people just want you to follow through.

what you promised and i think i think that yep absolutely all right well i will make the invite thanks michelle thank you so much bye All right, we're going to take a quick break. We'll be back with more of your calls right after this. Looking at your Alaska total traffic cameras on this Tuesday morning. It's a snowy one out there here in the Anchorage Bowl area. So if you're coming into Anchorage, be ready for some snow. If you're in Anchorage, make sure you brush your vehicle off.

Leave a little bit early. The roads are slippery out there, so do be careful at the intersections. I'm seeing them big yellow school buses on the road, so let's keep an eye out for the kids also. From the Swicker and Chevrolet Anchorage Traffic Studios, I'm Daryl Dean. This report is sponsored by Mothers Against Drunk Driving. For victims of drunk

And drug driving. Showers remain with us this morning. Take it easy on the roadways. We'll see some additional accumulation with temperatures today in the upper 20s and the lower 30s. We'll keep with those light snow showers through Wednesday with warming temperatures by Thursday. For Alaska's Weather Source, Simon. Welcome back to live, local, and insightful Morning Drive Radio on NewsRadio 650 KENI.

Welcome back. Current time is 7.51. I'm going to go straight to the phones, and Amanda is with us. Good morning, Amanda. Good morning, Amy. You know, there's things that you have to do with the mom that you really don't look forward to. Oh, yes. Oh, yes. Like, yeah, I can imagine paying for your teen son's insurance, you know, those kind of things. And just being a real good parent and going to the school board meeting tonight.

does not feel good, but we are going to do it. We are just really needing support right now, and we're rallying people to call for a re-vote for what happened last month. You know, I think it's really important that you guys stay involved because you've got to keep the pressure on. That's how you're going to make change, right? What do they say? The squeaky wheel gets the grease. You have to keep highlighting how important it is and, frankly, how successful.

Ricochula is. Ricochula is one of the best schools around, and it is one that should be not only supported, but it should be duplicated. And I think you guys just got to keep the pressure on. Okay, yes. Well, any of your listeners who are able to join us at the meeting tonight, so it's 6 o'clock at the...

school headquarters, you can sign up to testify on their written list if you do it before 6 p.m. But yeah, I'm just really thinking what you were saying before about elected officials keeping their promises. Really, we feel there are five school board members who did not follow their promise to be impartial and to be, you know, make database decisions for all of the students in ASD. Yeah. Yeah. I think you're exactly right. I think, you know, at the end of the day...

I used to laugh because the number one question, when I first got into politics, people would say to me, what are you? And I didn't know what they meant at first. I'm like, what do you mean, what am I? And what they wanted to know is, what do you believe? Are you a Republican? Are you a Democrat? a republican are you you know what are your values that's what they wanted to know because what they're trying to decide is

Does this person, can I trust them? Are they going to do what I expect them to do when I give them my vote? And I think that's a very fair question. And it's the same with these school board members. I think you're exactly right. So tonight the meeting is at 6 p.m. at the school district.

Yeah, and you know, they're really part of why I'm not looking forward to it. I'm a morning bird. I am not, and I guess you are too with this radio show. They wait you out, man. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Bring your coffee. You're going to be there until midnight. Yes, but, you know, we're a cool group. You can come and chat with us. It goes on for a while. They have the student testimony first, and then parents of students who are there.

And then they'll, you know, take a recess, you know, talk about what. So it could be 8, 9 o'clock that more testimony is going on. But, you know, just know that it is jewels in your crown if you come out. It's worth it. It's worth it. It's totally worth it. Thank you for calling and letting us know about it, Amanda. I appreciate it. Good luck tonight. Don't forget your coffee. All right. Bye. Bye-bye.

Well, you know, talking about education, Daryl, I have to touch on this story. Amanda's right. Tonight, the school board meeting in Anchorage, 6 p.m., be there, be prepared, and any support you can offer some of these charter schools is greatly appreciated. If you see the article in Must Read Alaska, Alaska Senate Education Chairwoman carries her message to the Senate floor. Oh, did I ever. What is it?

Yeah, Loki Tobin, she has on her coffee mug that she has sitting on her desk on the Senate floor, it says the future is queer. It's really weird. If I said something like that, everybody would come after me. Here's the thing. If you carried a cop to the floor and it said the future is heterosexual. I think people would lose their... It's not appropriate.

Like, on the Senate floor, you have basically propaganda. I mean, it's not appropriate. So, you know what? I mean, do you think they would lose their mind if somebody walked in with a MAGA cup and set it on their floor? Oh, big time. Oh, my gosh. This is how you decide whether there's a double standard, right? So I want some senator to walk in with a Make America Great Again big old coffee mug and set it on your desk and see if the Senate president says anything to you. That's a good one.

Let's see. Or how about just these only two sexes? Right, exactly. They would lose their mind. Again, Senator Loki Tobin, chair of the Education Committee. in the Senate has an unusual politically charged mug on her desk in the Alaska Senate chambers. It says on it in big letters, the future is queer. While the term queer has historically been considered derogatory label, it's been embraced.

by many in the LGBTQ plus community as a positive and inclusive term, according to Bus Street Alaska. Again. She has also been photographed wearing a hat that says protect trans kids. This coming from a woman who chairs education who, I don't believe she has any kids. And I don't believe she was a teacher.

So I'd love to know why she's actually the expert on education personally. But again, these people are nuts, man. I don't know what to say. It's just, they're deranged. There's like a screw loose. I don't get it. I don't get it. But that's our Alaska Senate. You're welcome. We'll end on that note today. All right, that does it for Daryl and I today. On deck, Clay Travis and Buck Sexton, followed by Sean Hannity at 11, and, of course, Mike Porcaro from 4 to 6.

Daryl and I will be back with you bright-eyed and bushy-tailed tomorrow morning at 6 a.m. Until then, stay safe. God bless.
