expressed on this show are those of the host and not of iHeartMedia or its employees. Thank you for listening to NewsRadio 650 KENI. Amy Demboski. The show starts now. Our lines are open at 907-522-0650. This is The Morning Drive on NewsRadio 650 KENI. Good morning. It is Monday morning, February 3rd. See, January came and gone just like that. Poof. Just like that. Poof. I know.

What are you going to do? It's fantastic. It's a little warmer. I got to tell you, I suspect by the end of this week, it's going to be a bit warmer than it was last week. It's already eight degrees here in Palmer. You know, I've got you at nine, but not by much. And it was definitely. I'll say balmy compared to last week at this time. So, yeah, and the skies were pretty. Yeah, not bad. It's usually nice when it's cold, clear and cold.

Yeah, Kenai's checking in at 5, so it's a little nippy down there. But this week we're supposed to see temperatures in the 20s, so... That is warming up. And just so you know, some of you are going to have one of those beautiful winter wonderland mornings out there. Not everybody. but maybe you'll be lucky enough to pass through. There is some light scattered fog around the Anchorage area, and it is definitely decorating a lot of those trees. Oh, my goodness.

Well, as I'm looking at temperatures right now, like I said, it's relatively mild, but at least it's not negative. Exactly. It's not sub-zero. I'm going to be positive about the weather, too. Yeah, exactly. Oh, my goodness. All right. Well, here we go. Let's get into some of our community announcements. We have a few of them this morning, mostly in Matsuburo.

The calendar otherwise is relatively light across the state as I'm looking at local government meetings. But we do have quite a few today for the Mat-Su borough, starting with joint assembly. School Board Committee on School Issues meeting. It's going to be at noon today at the Matsu Borough School District Central Office, which is located at 501 Golcana Street in Palmer.

At 6 o'clock tonight, the Central Matsu Fire Service Area Board of Supervisors has a special meeting. This is Fire Service Area Board 130. They'll meet at Central Matsu Fire Station 6-1. And that, again, is at 6 o'clock. The Fish Hill Community Council has their board meeting tonight at 6 o'clock. They meet at St. Herman Orthodox Church.

The Planning Commission also has a meeting this evening in the Mat-Su Borough. That meeting kicks off at 6 o'clock. It will be in the Assembly Chambers over there in the Borough Building, 350 East Dahlia Avenue in Palmer. The South Lakes Community Council also has their meeting tonight at Whitefields Church. That's at 7.

And last but not least, for the Mat-Su, the Taokina Community Council has their meeting tonight. That'll be at the Taokina Public Library. And if you need a Zoom link, I think they do participate via Zoom, too. So just go to the Mat-Su Burroughs website. Just go to mat-su. Gov.us.

And you'll be able to find it there. So that does it for the Mount Sioux. I didn't see any meetings for the city of Wasilla for today. Just a reminder, if you're going to the Palmer Library, it is closed today. So the library has been closed on Monday.

So just a reminder of that. Moving on to the Municipality of Anchorage, there is a Planning and Zoning Commission meeting tonight. That's going to be at 630 in the LUSAC Library in the Assembly Chambers. That's really the only meeting I see on the calendar for the Municipality of Anchorage. today as far as public notices go for the Kenai Peninsula borough.

I don't see anything on their calendar for today. I'm just double-checking. Let's get down here. Oh, I'm feminine. I'm feminine. Community, I'm looking, I'm looking, I'm looking. Kenai Peninsula Borough, here we go.

February 3rd. We do have two meetings for them. One is there's a Kenai Peninsula Borough School Board meeting tonight, 6 to 8 p.m. at the Kenai Borough Admin Building, 144 North Binkley Street. And the other meeting I see on the Kenai Peninsula Borough's calendar is The Seward Bear Creek Flood Service Area Board has a meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at Kenai Peninsula Borough Bear Creek Fire Station, which is located at 13105 Seward Highway.

If you want more information on these two meetings that are happening in the Kenai Peninsula Borough, just go to kpb.us, and you'll be able to find it there. There are no meetings for the city of Kenai or... the City of Saldana for today, but the City of Homer does have a work session. So the City Council has a work session today. That's at 4 o'clock. If you'd like to attend in person, you can go to the Cal's Council Chambers located at Homer City Hall, 491.

East Pioneer Avenue in Homer. And then, of course, you can always attend via Zoom or by phone if you want more information. All you have to do is go to cityofhomer-ak.gov. Alright, that really does it for our public announcements today. I do want to remind people that right now you're starting to get your tax assessments from your local governments. Usually they come out in January. And over the weekend, Darrell, I had a number of people texting me about their Anchorage assessments.

Uh-oh. Yeah. So I just want to remind folks that if you want to appeal your property assessment, you can do that, but it is time sensitive. There is a certain amount of time it takes to do that. If you need more information, all you have to do is go to muni.org. My computer is really slow here. And then you click on property tax information. It's a little widget right on the front. And then when you get there, there is a page where...

You can just look for property appraisal. It says property appraisal division, and it says check your property value. exemption information and get appeals information just follow the link through and it'll tell you how to appeal your property taxes all of that kind of stuff but just to remember There is a deadline for filing your exemptions as well. The exemption deadline is March 15th. So if you feel like you should have an exemption and you haven't filed it.

That's time-specific, and so is your appeal information. So, again, if you need to appeal or file an exemption, you can't lollygag. You have to do it. Oh, good work. Yeah, that's also a reminder. Not to forget to file for your PFD. Oh, I'm glad you put that in there because I was going to put a PFD reminder into people at the first of this month also. I heard from quite a few people also this weekend that got their little cards that were like, gosh, my value's gone up, but...

but has it really type of a thing. And the other PSA, gentlemen, 11 days. You have 11 days to Valentine's.

Do plan now. Don't hit the 7-Eleven to get your roses. Okay, just that quick note there. Yeah, I was going to say, as we start looking at the deadlines, they have a good... a write-up on the Muni web page where it starts talking about you know all the deadlines that you have to do different things whether it's you know reporting your personal property taxes or you know um your deadline for you know appeals or filing filing for

You know, different exemptions. They have a whole list. So, again, if you've gotten a card or if you have questions about your property taxes, the best thing you can do is call your local government. I always find if you're not sure... who to call if you call the clerk's office. They're really, really good, usually, about getting you where you need to go. See, I never have a problem with people who always tell me where to go.

Yes, same, same, same, same, same. All right, let's go ahead and take our first break of the morning. We're going to go ahead and do that. When we come back, we will take your calls and get into the headlines of the day. If you'd like to call in, 522-0650. Amy Demboski, 6 to 8, mornings on News Radio 650, KENI. Call now, 907-522-0650.

Welcome back, current time, 6.17. I almost jumped ahead of two minutes. 6.17 on this Monday morning. We're going to go straight to the phones, and Tim is with us. Good morning, sir. Good morning, Amy and Daryl. How are you? Wonderful. It's Monday. I'm trying to get jazzed for this week. I'm not quite there yet. I've had no coffee. How are you this morning? Oh, I'm doing good. There may be a ray of hope for us yet, because you saw a must-read article on Hakeem the Hack Jeffries.

Oh, yeah. Armed insurrection. This isn't no phony January 6th riot. He's calling for armed insurrection. So... I started looking up the word treason, and according to the Constitution of the United States, there are three key elements are necessary for an offense to constitute treason. An obligation... of allegiance to the legal order and intent and action to violate that obligation treason is a breach of allegiance and the faithful support a citizen owes

to the sovereignty within which he lives, or she in this case. So, and then you've got Article 3, Section 3, Clause 1, Trees Against the United States. shall consist only in living war against them or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort. No person shall be convicted of treason unless... on the testimony of two or three witnesses to the same overt act or if they confess in court. So, up to this point, we know...

Let me get my thoughts here. So we know that Lisa has voted against the American people and the Alaskan people. you got must read alaska you got alaska watchman you got oen all these different you know media outlets and uh I'm kind of getting ahead of myself. But anyway, I think we have a case against her because she is voted against the United States and the American people all the time.

To me, that constitutes treason. She's not for the American people. You know, as I watch Lisa Murkowski's votes, you know, look, she rubber-stamped Biden's picks. But when it comes to... When it comes to Trump, you know, she's so concerned all of a sudden, you know, about who he's putting in these positions. You know, look.

I expect Lisa Murkowski is going to vote against more of his nominees. It's who she is. She's really, you know, an undocumented Democrat, let's be honest. Yep. You know, she's... She is what she is. You know, that's part of the reason I'm still bitter with Frank Murkowski. The fact that he put his daughter there is just an offense to, I think, most Alaskans.

And they played games for 20 years keeping her in office. I mean, that's really where we're at with Lisa Murkowski. But with Hakeem Jeffries, to your point, I'm just going to give people some context here. So there was a story floating around. I think I saw it in breakfast.

part this weekend but suzanne has it also up in mustard alaska and her title is did rep hakeem jeffries just call for an insurrection representative hakim jeffries leader of the democrat minority in the house said democrats will take their fight to the streets over some of the executive orders and actions by president trump jeffries told his troops

in a Democrat caucus meeting to pursue all avenues of opposition and to take that fight to the streets, according to several Democrats who participated in the meeting. This was originally reported in The Hill. So there we have it. So if he is saying that people must fight President's agenda in the streets, it sounds like he is calling for violence. That's what it sounds like. Yes, it does. And that's treason.

You know, so, you know, and that's why you can't, you can't, you can't whip up a mob and you can't, I mean, but look, this is what the left does. I mean, double standards. Remember when. Oh, who was that? Maxine Waters. Remember when she was yelling and saying, get in their faces, scream at them and get in their faces. And look, this is what the left does. They throw temper tantrums. And did you see what was happening with the...

Mexican migrants, the standoff in California on the highways there. Thousands of them. I didn't see that. Yeah, this weekend there were thousands of people that were in the streets and I would say blocking a highway in California. I have a story up here. It's the 101 they blocked, not just a highway. It's 101. So they were blocking it, and I was watching last night a story where the police were coming to move them aside, but I thought, man.

All they're doing is they're telling ICE exactly where to go because these people that are blocking the highways, they're carrying Mexican flags, they're doing all this kind of stuff. My guess is if ICE goes there, they're probably going to sweep up quite a few people that are probably not even legal. So I'm like, yeah. That is actually brilliant. I was like, yeah, go for it. Block the highway. Go for it. That's a good point. I liked it. Oh, yeah, yeah. So anyways.

Hopefully it's something to consider. I know we have some great, great minds in the Republican Party. And if they could just start digging up all these articles, all our votes, all these comments. I mean, she's worked against the American people. basically her whole time in office. And that's treason. It's treason. She doesn't, you know. So maybe if we have some constitutional scholars and somebody a heck of a lot smarter than me, maybe we could check into that, you know, somebody who knows.

a lot more about it than me. Well, thank you for the information. And we will start looking. And I think this will be a good year to follow Lisa Murkowski's votes. I think it'll be a great year to do that. Tim, thank you for the call this morning. I appreciate it. Yes, sir. Hey, I just got one more question for you. Sure. Do you support these onesies?

That was a good Bernie. That was a Bernie interpretation. So if anybody watched the Bernie Sanders debate, he had a couple where he was... questioning RFK, there was, he put up a pictures of some onesies that are being sold that says unvaccinated. And he kept pestering RFK about these onesies that are being sold. And it's just like the most ridiculous theater. That was a good Bernie impression. I appreciate it. That actually was. Maybe I have a career in comedy. You may.

You may. Alright, have a good day, sir. Alright, bye-bye. All right, so the story that I was alluding to, I wanted to cover this. Breitbart, anti-Trump deportation protesters wave Mexican flags across the U.S. Hundreds of protesters, not thousands, I guess, hundreds of protesters in streets across the U.S. On Sunday to protest Donald Trump's deportation policies, protesters in Dallas shouted, Mexico, Mexico, Mexico, while carrying Mexican flags.

But then one processor spoke to the crowd saying, we immigrants come here looking for opportunity because they took ours from us. Here, again. There's a difference between illegal aliens and legal immigrants. You know, they talk about here in this article, one vehicle can be seen burning rubber with his car creating a cloud of smoke that moved through the protesters.

But as you start looking at some of these, in Los Angeles, hundreds of protesters shut down the 101 freeway in both directions. California Highway Patrol officers briefly reopened the freeway before more protesters clogged the lanes of traffic. In San Diego, more Mexican flags are paraded in the streets as nearly 2,000 marched near the convention center there. Back in Texas, protesters carried more Mexican flags in Houston. One protester has seen...

with an FDT sign. You can guess what that means. Bad word, Donald Trump. Yeah, exactly. But they were, in New York City, protesters were heard yelling the bad word, ICE, and then the bad word, Trump. in near Times Square but I gotta be honest with you it's just like there's this video of this Chinese immigrant

on one of the college campuses that was inciting protests there. Yeah, she was deported by ICE. She was arrested and deported. This is what needs to happen. Look, as these protests happen, these people are idiots. Because I'm just telling you. Ice, start here. Start here. That's a good starting spot. Also, you know a lot of leftists and progressives like warm soda and warm drinks, right? Is that a thing? Well, yeah, they don't like ice.

That was bad at me. She was taking a drink right when I said that. You know, when you go to Europe... You know, your stuff doesn't come with ice in it. Did you know that? Not only there, you don't have to go that far. Canada. The fastest way a Canadian can identify you as a Yank or an American is when you look for ice in your water in a restaurant or when you try to get ice at like a gas station.

for your soda. They literally are looking at you like you must be a yank because they don't do warm soda. Sorry. Well, I've got to tell you, it's a thing. It's a thing. Well, you're going to see more and more of these protests. And in part, let's see who's funding the protests, too. Because I don't believe every one of these protests is just naturally occurring.

I don't believe a lot of the Antifa protests just naturally occurred, or a lot of the protests that happened on college campuses last year just naturally occurred. You have to look towards it. But when we're talking about illegal immigration, And you're starting to see lots of Mexican flags or Palestinian flags being flown. I'm just, you know, look, it's legal to protest lawfully.

It's not necessarily legal to block or impede traffic, or it's certainly not legal to destroy property. So when these protests happen, and they're happening unlawfully, I'd say start there. It's a great place. You know, it makes it easier on law enforcement because they're all kind of together. So let's see. I would be curious to see in some of these protests how many of these people are actually illegals.

I would bet you there's a number of them. I'm sure there's a huge number of them. But I would also put money that a lot of them, the illegals, would be afraid to get out there for exactly the reason you just stated. It would be...

It would be an easy place to start. Let's just start there. It would be an easy place to start. But what are you going to do? Well, I don't know. You know, it happened Friday night after, obviously, after I was off the air, but I had to chuckle because as of five people, on Friday night federal employees can no longer put their pronouns on their emails their signature lines Is that a thing now? I know there's seizure. It sounds like seizure. I can't even say it. But I kind of laugh because...

You know, they just make crap up. Like, no more ze, zur, ze hire, thon, or thon self. What the heck is that? I don't know. even know what that is. Suzanne has the article up in Mustard, Alaska. It says, federal agencies note to seizure workers, remove woke pronouns from your signature lines. Federal workers at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Department of Transportation

has been informed, they must remove any and all of dozens of woke gender signaling pronouns and other irrelevant information from their signature lines by 5 p.m. on Friday to be in compliance with Donald Trump's executive order. to reverse gender ideology obsession. by the former biden administration here's a quote from a cdc memo pronouns and other information not permitted in the policy must be removed from cdc at sdr employee signature

by 5 p.m. Eastern on Friday, end quote. So that means I've got to take the who me off of mine? You know, I just want to start. I want to create on my signature line, how do you identify as awesome? Oh, now see, I like that. I like that. One of the funniest ones that cracks me up is Kevin McCabe. I'm going to mess this up entirely, but he's called in before and said he identified.

Why is this thin with hair or something like that? If you've met Kevin, like he is stout and he's a little thin on top. You know, he's a little. than up there and so to hear him say that it just it like it threw me off it cracked me up it was so funny but it's like yeah like i want to identify as as skinny and rich. How about that, Daryl? Ooh, I could go for either of those. Heck, I'd just settle for one of those. I love it. I love it.

All right. Well, let's go ahead and take a quick break. When we come back, we will hit the headlines of the day. Stay with us. To Amy now, 907-522-0650. That's 907-522-0650. It's Amy Demboski on NewsRadio 650. KENI. Welcome back. Current time, 6.35. Well, you know, it's been way too long, I think, coming. And, you know, it's interesting with Trump because...

He will bring up a topic that has been going on for a long time that nobody talks about, and then all of a sudden it's what everybody's talking about. Everybody is an expert now on the Panama Canal. It just cracks me up. You know as I'm watching this unfold I mean the topics you know range from everything from tariffs and trade To the Panama Canal to now South Africa

And it is way overdue. So for many, many people that many, many people know the stories in South Africa, but for many, many, many years now. White farmers specifically in South Africa have been murdered. Their land has been stolen. And it appears that it's really, with the sanction and the... support and or lack thereof enforcement from the government of South Africa and Trump has called attention to it and he says you know what

Basically, they're on notice. Trump cuts off funding to South Africa over racial land confiscation. See, nobody ever reports. Then you have to go back and ask yourself, why don't you see this widely reported? Because it's a narrative. Well, because it's killing white people.

And it's stealing white people's land. So it's okay in mainstream media's mind. I mean, let's be honest about it. I mean, that's really what it comes down to. President Donald Trump announced Sunday that he's suspending all USAID to South Africa. After the latter passed a law on land expropriation, which many fear would lead to Zimbabwe-style seizures of land owned by white citizens, the president made the surprise announcement.

true social his own social media platform on Sunday evening and in that you know he he basically says you know South Africa's confiscating land and treating certain classes of people very badly It's a bad situation that the radical left media doesn't want to so much as mention. Well, again, these are massive human rights violations, and why are we sending them money?

I mean, like, and you have to step back for a second because here's the thing with South Africa. And it's one, it's because they don't talk about it if it doesn't fit their narrative. Daryl's absolutely right about that. But again, when it's against white people, it's almost like they treat it like it's deserved, and so they don't want to really talk about it. You see it with Israel. Now, Israel is not necessarily a white nation, but that's how they're viewed.

in the minds of many. And so whatever happens to Israel, They're like, you know what, they probably deserved it, right? That's kind of the mentality. And in South Africa, it's not just about the South African government sanctioning, okaying, or not protecting white farmers. is South Africa is not a friendly nation to the US. When you start looking at their actual foreign policy, what do we see? We see South Africa really supporting and

the efforts of Iran, the efforts of China, the efforts of Russia. You see them lined up with our enemies. So from a national security standpoint, somebody explain to me why we're sending South Africa nearly $450 million. Like, explain that to me. Why in the world? I mean, I've never been able to understand why we gave Iran money. I mean. That's illogical to me. But again, we fund people that fund efforts that are counter to the U.S.'s interest.

It's stupid. With South Africa in particular, one of the things that people don't realize is, so for many years, especially like my years growing up and your years growing up, South Africa was known as the apartheid nation. So it was run by white people. completely against the black people in any other race.

There was a huge shift in that with Nelson Mandela being released and the government being overthrown and all of that. Unfortunately, as things happen in this style, it's gone to the complete flip turn of that. And now it is ruled by black Africans, but they have taken to suppressing and literally getting their pound of flesh out of the white Afrikaners. And they are going because a lot of them are also Muslim. side of it.

They're supporting what's going on in the Middle East. That's their go-to. They are not friendly to us. I mean, that's the reality. There's no reason we should be sending the money. According to this Breitbart article, many white South Africans also believe that the high level...

of rural crime, including the murders of white farmers, is politically motivated. Trump spoke out against the phenomenon in 2018 and highlighted the export appropriation issue. In addition, South Africa, see here it is, South Africa also contrary to U.S. interests and alliances on the world stage, notably cozying up to rival powers such as China and Russia, and also backing Palestinian terror against Israel.

in international forum. See, there it is. I mean, the reality is why are we funding our enemies? Because here's the thing. If you're supporting and giving aid to our enemies, you are our enemy. There's no way around it. I mean, that's just it. So, you know, I think, you know, Trump, I was thinking about this this weekend, and I'm almost having an identity crisis, Daryl, because my whole life growing up, Reagan was my favorite president.

Reagan was my favorite president. I would say Lincoln was number two. Now, Lincoln, I mean, I will just say. probably the reason reagan was my favorite president is because i grew up in the era of reagan right i'm a 70s kid and so i you know i remember his second election and i know i've told this story on the air before but i remember the night of his his reelection i was at my grandmother's house

And I'm sitting there and I'm watching here. I'm a kid in elementary school and I'm watching, you know, the returns come in as they're calling state after state after state. And my grandmother tells me, you know, Amy, you got to go to bed. You got to go to bed. And I just look at her and I say, Nana, I got to watch this.

If he just doesn't win, I think I'm going to die. Like, I was so mesmerized as a child by Reagan when he spoke. I was mesmerized by him. You know, I just, it was one of those things. I don't even know why. I was a weird kid. What can I say? I don't know any other kid in elementary school that actually watched political stuff, but I did.

And so I just remember just thinking, you know, like, he's got to win. And so I was always, like, mesmerized by Reagan. I mean, the guy is the best order we've ever had. Ever. I mean, people always say Obama was so good. I got to tell you, he had nothing on Reagan.

But when I'm watching what Trump has inherited, what Trump is dealing with, and I've got to tell you, I'm watching him in his second term already. It's been only a couple weeks, and I'm like, the guy is a genius. Like, he is really skilled. Before, I didn't give him that much credit. I was just like, yeah, he's a populist, but he's doing the right things, and he's going in the right direction. But this time, he comes in. He's made in business. But when you look at him,

actually call out a lot of these international issues and things that really need to be dealt with. I mean... I think it's about time you have a business guy who actually is, I mean, and I don't think you could have got it from anybody else than a straight-talking New Yorker.

You know, I mean, this is a guy who got to where he is. He had to deal with a mob in New York in order to build real estate. Let's be honest. And, you know, somebody who can navigate that and still come out of it a billionaire and be able to. to navigate the political system and everything like that. I mean, it takes a lot of skill to be able to do it. And now when you watch Trump, I don't think he says anything.

unintentionally. And I never used to always think that. I used to think sometimes, you know, whatever comes in his head is going to come out of his mouth. But I think he actually is a very intentional person. I think what he does elicits... a response that he's already trying. I mean, it's the art of the deal, right? It looks at the tariffs with Mexico and with Canada and with China, right? They're talking about 25% tariffs, Mexico, China, and 10% China. Mexico.

In Canada, sorry, 25%, 10% for China. So as he has this, and look, we all knew what he was doing with the tariffs from the beginning. I mean, the reality is when he says... Mexico and Canada have treated us very poorly. He's right. What have they done? They've allowed illegal immigration to flow across our borders. They've allowed fentanyl to flow across our borders. That's not what good neighbors do. They could have made things different. They didn't.

So already this morning we have a new development that's just breaking. So with the tariffs relating to Mexico, think about this. We know it was documented very well in Peter Schweitzer's book, Blood Money. But we know very well that China sends the precursors for fentanyl to Mexico, and they manufacture it in Mexico, and then they smuggle it across the border.

We know there's a large Chinese presence actually in Mexico and a lot of these different factories that are in places that are creating fennel. Like if it's documented in Peter Schweitzer's book, don't tell me the Mexican government doesn't know. Of course they know.

So here we go. So Trump says I'm going to impose 25% tariffs on Mexico and Canada. That's what I'm going to do. Why? Because they're sucky neighbors to us. They're sending illegals, and they're sending drugs across our border. And you know what? That's not good neighborly. That's not being neighborly. So the Mexican president, you know, she likes to talk tough, right? She's not really a...

Trump fan. She likes to talk tough and she comes out and she says, oh, well then we're going to tear up Mexico. We're going to tear up the U.S. 25%. Okay. That's fine. Because really think about what tariffs are. The left will try to tell you that the tariff is just a tax on you. But really, what does a tariff do? A tariff will ultimately incentivize...

These foreign companies to what? Relocate to the U.S. and build. They don't have to pay the tariff. All they have to do is build their stuff in the U.S. And then you avoid the tariff, right? But think about this. Think about Ford trying to sell. It's not just Mexico and Canada and China. Think about Ford trying to sell cars in Japan.

It's virtually non-existent because a lot of these countries, I mean, they will tariff us 100%, 200% on our commodities, certain commodities in certain industries, because they don't want it to compete with their local. Their local manufacturers right that but we don't reciprocate for some reason free trade only goes one way Right, it's we're not going to tear a few but you're going to tear up the heck out of us

So really, when we start talking about tariffs, what does it do? It really repatriates American jobs. It really forces these international companies that oftentimes don't let us operate at a fair playing field in their country. It makes them relocate to our country, employ American workers, build products here. They can 100%. avoid their tariffs if they build their stuff here.

Now, obviously, there's some stuff that won't be grown here that is only grown in other places. But the reality is now the Mexican president has already buckled. It hasn't even been three days. And the Mexican president has already buckled, and this morning now it's being reported. that Trump and her had some good talks, and he's going to go ahead and pause Mexican tariffs because she's agreed to send 10,000 troops to the border. Bingo. He got what he asked for. Look at that.

See, so when we start talking about tariffs, you know, this is a negotiating tool for Trump. And the reason it's effective is because they know he means business. They know he means it. So now, again, it's being reported on Fox News. Trump has agreed to a one-month pause on Mexico tariffs, and she's agreed to send 10,000 Mexican troops to the border.

Imagine that. Winning. Keyword right there. I love winning. It feels so good. All right, we're going to go ahead and take a quick break. If you'd like to call in 522-0650. to the boss, Amy Demfoski. Call 907-522-0650 and be a part of the show on News Radio 650. KENI. All right, well, Marco Rubio is Secretary of State, and he has not let the grass grow under his feet. He's already been down to Panama.

You know, and here's the issue with Panama. The reality is it was built by the United States, right? We militarily controlled it for a very long time. And then under Jimmy Carter, he basically, for like a dollar, effectively gave it to Panama, right? But Panama was supposed to remain neutral, and the reality is, and again, this is another issue that

Nobody would have been talking about or known about it unless Trump brought it up. But the reality is there's a heavy Chinese influence and presence in Panama, and it's problematic. It's problematic for a variety of reasons. not just for commerce and trade, but for moving of military stuff, you know, in a very fast and expeditious way. And so basically what Rubio did is he went down to Panama and he met with them and he's just like, look, you're violating the neutrality.

agreement and uh you know if you keep doing it we're going to take it back i mean I wasn't a fly on the wall. But this is in Amy's mind what she believes happened. Breitbart has an article out. Marco Rubio succeeds in convincing Panama to exit belt and road initiative with China. Secretary of State Marco Rubio... succeeded in convincing Panama's president

to opt out of renewing its agreement with China regarding the Belt and Road Initiative. Milano, he's the president of China, confirmed on Sunday after meeting with Rubio during the visit to Panama that Panama would not be renewing the Belt and Road Initiative. agreement according to Baja breaking news Panama became the first Latin American country to sign on to the Belt and Road initiative in 2018 a year after Panama cut diplomatic ties with Taiwan according to the New York Times

In 2017, China scored a major victory when Panama cut diplomatic ties with Taiwan. Obviously, you know, it's like the only self-governing territory in China. And China claims them as a territory. but um

The following year, Panama became the first Latin American country to sign on to the Belt and Road Initiative. The Chinese leader is Xi Jinping's signature global infrastructure program, which is aimed at enlarging China's geopolitical heft and countering American influence. What are we really talking about? What we're really talking about is China goes into a lot of times developing countries. They build human...

huge amount of infrastructure, and then effectively China controls it, owns it, takes it over. So that's really what we're talking about. Big issue when we're talking about the Panama Canal because not only did the U.S. build it, but it's a major strategic location. Let's put it that way.

So during the meeting between Rubio and Milano, The two discussed Panama's sovereignty, security, and economic relations with the United States, while Rubio reportedly informed Milano that the President Donald Trump sees China's influence over the Panama Canal as a potential violation of the treaty concerning the permanent neutrality and operations of the Panama Canal. It was reported as having emphasized Panama's control over the canal was non-negotiable. So again, look, message sent.

Message sent. So here we go. You know, what the U.S. is doing is pushing back on Chinese influence across the world. I mean, especially when it's... They're starting with Mexico. Let's be honest. They're starting with Mexico and Panama. But they are very important places for us because they're very close and they're very of strategic importance. Well, that and like with the Mexico one, I'm sure the Chinese were also pushing into Mexican government because, as you said earlier,

All those Chinese cars being built in Mexico all of a sudden had a 25% tariff put on them. And, you know, every time you say Panama, you know what runs through my head? You know what? Panama! There you have it. Well, I will tell you, every time I hear anything, you know, I will tell you the best place to get news about what's going on with Donald Trump, follow him on True Social.

Good morning, sir.

Just had an observation. You know, we have an energy shortage. And it was known last year that we might have to have rolling brownouts. So I'm a little confused as to why Eklutna went ahead and built a casino that's going to take more energy. So maybe the historical gas use did it for the Eklutna area.

should be what they get. And if we have rolling brownouts, maybe the casino goes dark, but of course there's no power, you can't run the machines, you're not going to have any heat, and you won't have any light. But this just seems very irresponsible to me. Well, you know, I haven't driven by there in a couple of weeks, but I had to chuckle when I saw it. Basically, it's two trailers that they put together. I know, but eventually they want to build a big structure.

Right, right, right. The infrastructure is going to take gas. It is. And water. So maybe they should clear a bunch of their land and put up a bunch of solar farms, okay? That would seem like the responsible thing to do. Well, yeah, it would, but, you know, I just saw the solar panels in the neighborhood where I live in Eagle River, and they're all covered with snow, except the ones right over the garage, which they can get to clear off. It reminded me of Berkowitz's...

Up on top of the parking garage. I thought it was on the parking garage. I thought it was the pack that had them. Now I've got to look. Yeah, you've got to look. Yeah, but one of those places. Yeah, good. point scott i appreciate you bringing it up hey carol you too bye-bye uh oh that cracks me up um well you know talking about anchorage for a second

The Anchorage School District, again, is proposing cutting teacher positions, middle school sports, and more. And this is the ADN headline, Amid Flat State Funding. Okay. So when I see this, okay. I can't even with these people. I can't even, Daryl, because they think you're stupid. Now, I don't have the numbers in front of me.

But I know almost every year for the past 20 years, almost every year for the past 20 years, the legislature has given additional one-time funding to all these school districts. And we're talking. Hundreds of millions of dollars. Hundreds of millions. They don't necessarily adjust the BSA every year, but last year they did. Last year they did. I think it was, what was it, 680 per student? It was something like that. Something like that, yeah.

So when you hear the superintendent of the Anchorage School District say they're facing a structural deficit of $111 million, first of all, I think you have bad spending habits. I think this is where we should see the FICO score of every single person in elected office.

Facing a structural deficit, according to the ADN, of $111 million, the Anchorage School District released its draft budget on Friday, calling for massive cuts to programs and positions. In a letter to Anchorage parents, Superintendent Jared Bryant said the deficit is... driven by more than a decade of flat state funding and rising costs due to inflation. End quote. So Jarrett Bryan thinks you're an idiot.

And, again, it's not flat funding when they add hundreds of millions of dollars to your budget, you jack wagon. Like I can't even, like I get so irritated. Like one of my biggest pet peeves is when politicians talk to us like we're stupid. Like it is unbelievably. unbelievably irresponsible for him to lie to parents. They haven't had flat funding. Not only did they increase the BSA last year, but year after year after year they have given increases.

outside of the BSA. That is not flat funding. If you get more money than you got the year before, that's not flat funding. How is this hard to... Common core math. I know this kid is like all of like 12 years old.

And he became a superintendent, like, with training wheels. Like, let's be honest. Okay, I'm being sarcastic, obviously. He's not 12 years old. I'm not sure that he's 30 yet. But he was somebody who was not qualified for this job when they put him in this position. But he fits the right...

narrative, if you know what I mean. He's our Anchorage DEI hire. Let's be honest. That's what he is. Oh, big time bingo on that one. But I just, I'm beside myself. Like, I can't even with these people. When they said there's... Look, the issue isn't flat funding. The issue is you don't know how to balance a dang checkbook. Let's be honest. Let's prioritize teachers and classrooms and results over administrative costs. Rather than giving, oh, I can't even, I can't even.

This is unbelievable to me. It's absolutely unbelievable to me. So as you see this today, the Anchorage School District is going to be having their meeting this week. I encourage people to attend it. If you want more information, you can go to ASD K-12.

dot org and you'll be able to find their information but the governor is actually proposing a plan that will actually get something done Alaska Public media has an article out, Dunleavy outlines omnibus education bill setting stage for negotiations with lawmakers on school funding.

The governor unveiled what he is calling an education omnibus bill on Friday. The bill introduced in both chambers is called House Bill 76 and Senate Bill 82, respectively, would make several changes to the way the state funds education and make policies policy changes that Dunleavy says will improve student performance. School districts have been asking state lawmakers to boost education funding. Yeah, blah, blah, blah. We know all that. But the governor's bill...

has repeatedly called for any funding increases to be targeted and tied to reforms. Imagine that. A politician who actually wants to tie spending to accountability. Hallelujah. Praise the Lord. He goes on and says, Dunleavy proposes several targeted categories of education spending. The bill would change the way correspondence students are counted in the funding formula, effectively increasing state education spending by $43.4 million, according to S&P.

from the governor's office, increasing funding for career and tech education, increasing student transportation funding by 20%, increase per student stipends for students at residential schools like Mount Edgecombe, Provides school districts a $450 incentive for each student who performs at grade level or demonstrates a measure of increased proficiency. Imagine that. Accountability. Merit-based funding.

You do better with your kids. You get them to proficient. You actually teach them to their grade level. And guess what? U2's school district could get more money. Starting in 2026, provide teachers with an annual retention bonus of $5,000 to $15,000 for three years. The policy estimated last year to cost $59 million annually.

Again, when you start looking at that, what is he trying to do? He's trying to actually have accountability and help teachers directly. Because you funnel all this money through the NEA. Through the school districts, how much do you actually think is going to end up in teachers' pockets? Probably not all that much, to be honest.

So as we look at what the governor is talking about, altogether the bill would increase state spending on education by $117 million for school year 25-26 and $181 million the following year with the retention bonuses. Well, I will tell you it's still a whole lot less than $1.4 billion over three years, but they're proposing with no accountability.

I'm just saying. I'm on the governor's side on this one. He is absolutely right. If you're going to spend more money, you've got to have results to prove that it's worth it. And at the end of the day, what is the goal? The goal is educating children. That's the goal. It's not enriching bureaucrats. It's not filling the coffers of the NEA. It is educating children. Remember, the NEA does not exist to do what is in the best interest of your child.

right the NEA is all there all about the NEA it's not about the kids it's not about making sure their results are coming up I think this is the right approach It's called accountability. And if the Anchorage School District actually had their students performing at grade level, guess what? They could get a $450 per student bump. Imagine that.

That's pretty big, I would say. But the fact that the Anchorage school superintendent is telling you they've had flat funding, he's lying to you. Just look at the dean budget that was passed last year. It's just not true. And when they give you raises year after year outside of the BSA, here's an extra $200 million. Here's an extra $300 million for education. Somebody explain to me how that's flat funding. It's not.

All right, we're going to go ahead and take a quick break. We have one more segment left, 522-0650 if you'd like to call in. Street Alaska and she talks about this I am going to contact the DEC and I am going to see if I can get somebody from the DEC to call into the show and talk about this because it's been years since I've even delved into this topic so I don't have the most recent information

But I will tell you, this is all stemming from the Clean Air Act and federal intervention. So, yes, has the state taken this action? Yes, they have. But the question is, can we get it reversed? I think with the Trump administration's help, the answer is yes.

but it's going to take everybody weighing in to be able to do it. All right, well, great question, Marv. I will do some homework for you, and we will follow up on that topic this week. All right, that does it for Daryl and I today. We will be back with you bright-eyed and bushy-tailed tomorrow morning at 6 a.m. Until then, stay safe. God bless.
