Our lines are open at 907-522-0650. This is The Morning Drive on NewsRadio 650 KENI. Good morning. It is Thursday, January 23rd. It is a great day to be alive. It's a great day to be an American. Great things are happening. Weather is crazy.
My dad told me, I was talking to him yesterday, he said, do you realize they've had more snow in Pensacola, Florida this year? than in Anchorage. Apparently, Pensacola got hit with like eight inches of snow. They got eight inches down there. Louisiana got a pile of snow. Houston, Texas. Got a pile of, so I've got family members down there, and so I tend, wherever my family members are, I tend to have their weather and traffic cameras up so I can look at their areas. Yeah, yesterday.
It was all snow. Everywhere you looked on the traffic cams, there was snow. Today? Most of the snow is gone, but you can still see it. So that's telling you the temperatures are hovering real low. It's like, and then you look up here. I know. Up here is weird. This is like the weirdest winter I remember. I mean.
It's very strange. It's very strange. I'm ready for two feet of snow. You know what I worry about when we have a winter like this? I worry about the wildfire season when summer comes. Yeah, there's no snow to tamp it down. Yeah, it's like, I mean, if your swamps are dry and, you know, we'll see. We'll see what the summer brings. Hopefully we get enough moisture in order to keep the fire danger down. But welcome to Alaska, right? I mean, we have...
We have a lot of wooded areas and it tends to be. It tends to be ripe when we don't have enough moisture. What I think needs to be looked at, though, first is, I mean, so we haven't had snowfall, okay? But we've had a lot of rain. Which that, I mean, if you were to calculate it out, take that rain and say, well, that calculates out to this much snow. That would help us know how much snowpack, because that rain is going all into the systems. I mean, I can verify my yard is a layer of ice.
I think about, okay, so like I'll give you an example. So for my friends out in Willow, y'all know what I'm talking about. So, you know, whenever we go out, like spring bear hunting, for example, whenever we have big years of snowfall, the swamps, I mean, where we go, I mean, it takes a bit to get out there. And sometimes it's like you're trudging through a ton. of water. This year, I mean,
you're just not going to have that. Because usually, I mean, out in Willow, I mean, they have three, four feet of snow, right? I mean, they have a ton of snow. And so it takes a while for all that snow to melt. And then the swamps usually are very, are very wet. you know in you know but years where we have low snowfall i mean it just i mean it's like dispersing pretty i mean i drive across the palmer hay flats every day and it's just
It's just brown and there's no snow. And I just worry that there's just not enough. I mean, I know we get some snow, but we haven't got like two feet that's sitting out there. You know what I mean? Of precipitation. And the slow melt. I see what you're saying with the slow melt because this will melt rapidly. And as you said, it will.
won't fill up the swamps the same um as soon as you said that about the level of the swamps i pictured myself walking through and i'm going over my muck boots and literally feeling my it's like that normally isn't that deep on this path. And so I literally was chuckling to myself. You know what I'm talking about. I can't tell you how many times it's like you go to go down stress. You're like, yeah, I can't do that. I got to break trail somewhere else. And you got to, you know, so it's, uh,
Especially spring bear hunting. You really can get a good idea of... what it's going to be like when you get out there because, you know, some places just become impassable. Well, you know, according to Fish and Game, you might be able to do your spring bear hunting a little early. Well, not officially because, you know, the time limits are the time limit set for the season. But I hear the bears.
actually might be starting to wake up some of them. Really? Yeah, that was one of the warnings by Fish and Game was, is with the weather we've got going on, do be careful. And I can imagine that, like I said, with this, if I were to bear asleep and I'd be looking around going, hey. Snack time. Oh, you know, I should have pulled this clip. I should have pulled this clip because talking about bears.
Senator Kennedy, you just never know what's going to come out of his mouth. He has the best analogies there is. They were asking him a question about DEI and about gender and race discrimination. And he makes this comment about, you know,
I mean, effectively, a soul has no color. Like, everybody should be treating this shame. We shouldn't be discriminating. Like, basically, he made the comment, like, DEI, and I'm paraphrasing a little bit, DEI basically is discriminating based on race and gender. And he's like, why are we doing that? He's like, I thought we tried to get past this back in the 60s. He's like, at what point are we going to get past that? And then he goes on to make the comment, look.
A bear doesn't know the difference between race and gender. To a bear, we all taste like chicken. You know, that is actually really a good quote. I had a thought along the lines of that is... Now I just lost my thought.
My butt mopped out on my microphone over here, and as soon as it popped out, it's like... You haven't had your coffee yet this morning, Daryl, where I already have my can, my cup of Tactus Squatch right in my hand. Yeah, I'm not going to get any coffee this morning, unfortunately. not in the works. I spent too much time perusing the interwebs out there, and it kind of stopped me up, so.
I got ridiculously up early this morning. And, you know, I'm sitting there. I watched about three episodes of Big Bang Theory. Or I listened to it. You know, I'll turn it on on my phone and I'll just sit there and... listen to it and then i just said okay you know what it's like 4 30 i'm like i gotta get up like i'm just awake there's no point in even like i gotta get up so so then i go out in the living room and i you know i'm sitting next to the dog who's snoring
and i'm like sitting there and i get on instagram and i just start scrolling and mind you it's like 4 30 and i'm scrolling and scrolling And then, you know, 5 o'clock comes, and I'm like, you know, I should really start my show routine. And the next thing I know, it's like 5.30. I'm like, I really got to get my butt moving now. But, you know, I don't have the commute you do. I just have to walk into this, you know, across the living room.
So it's not that bad. And when I got up and ran out the door to go start my car, pouring rain. I always run out the door and start my car without a jacket on. That's just, you know, it's real quick outside. It's not ever that cold. It'll wake you up. Exactly. It was raining. My back was still wet from when I ran out there. Now, that might be also sweat. But it is raining here in Anchorage. I mean, like. What's your temp?
So 36 degrees here at the studios. It was 39 over in Spenard with pouring rain and extremely slippery side roads. Again, my side roads, my streets. have not been sanded. Now, the heads of them right at the intersections, I'll give them that. They sanded those right there.
But the main street itself, I went sideways down my road for about half my road today because it just tires rotate. Oh, and it's not like speed. My tires are just rotating. And it just, yeah, just drag me on down. I'm just like going, okay. It's 34 degrees out here in Palmer. Kenai is checking in at 38 right now. So it is relatively warm all over south-central Alaska right now. And you will definitely want to be careful. I noticed yesterday a couple parking lots were...
very, very icy. This is the time of year where orthopedic surgeons are very busy. So do be very careful. If you have ice cleats and you're going in and out, it's probably a good idea to wear them, especially if you don't want to fall. But, yeah, definitely an icy time of year. And also just sidewalks. That was the other thing yesterday. Today I didn't see them because there was nobody on the streets when I came through, even though normally there are a few homeless people out there.
Sidewalks were so slippery yesterday. I actually watched people going backwards down the road. Well, I mean, on the sidewalks. They're trying to walk up the hill. And as soon as they stopped a little step, step, step.
They'd slide back the way they came. I watched one guy. He was so frustrated. I mean, he looked like he was going to pull his hair out because he could not get up past this part of the hill. And I'm just like going, dude. Yeah, it's so icy. You just have to be very careful. All right.
We don't have a lot of community announcements this morning. We do have a few. So I'll hit the highlights. If you live out here in the Mat-Su borough today for Thursday, January 23rd. I almost said June. Good heavens. January 23rd, 6.30 p.m., the Glacier View Community Council. has a community council meeting at the Glacier View School.
Also, tonight's at 7 p.m., the Fish Hook Community Council has their meeting. They meet at the Chalet at Government Peak, which is located at 10690 North Mountain Trails Drive in Palmer. The North Lakes Community Council has a board meeting tonight starting at 7 p.m., and they meet at the Boys and Girls Club over off of Bogard Road. If you want more information on these meetings in the Matzu Borough, just go to matzugov.us.
There are no meetings for the city of Wasilla or Palmer today. For the municipality of Anchorage, the only thing we have is a couple of board and commission meetings. So the budget advisory commission is meeting at noon today. They have a new meeting location, 3000 C Street, number 110. They usually meet at City Hall in the Mayor's Conference Room. So this is just a highlight. If you usually go to the BAC meeting, again, new location, 3000 C Street.
room 110 it's a conference center and they also have a team's link so if you need that link just go to muni.org click on the mayor's tab and then click on the events tab The Heritage Land Bank Advisory Commission also has a meeting. Their meeting is going to be a virtual meeting only at 1.30 today. Again, same location if you want to find the link. Muni.org, click on the Mayor's tab, then click on the Events tab.
The Animal Care and Control Advisory Board has a meeting tonight, Thursday, January 23rd, 6 p.m. They will be meeting at the Anchorage Animal Care and Control Building, located at 4711 Elmore Road. I love you. And that really does it for boards and commissions for the municipality of Anchorage for today. There are no meetings in the Kenai Peninsula Borough, the city of Kenai, or Soldotna. And there is no meeting in Homer for today either. Just a note from...
my friends in Homer. They do have a special city council meeting that is noticed for Monday, January 27th. They haven't had a chance to look at their full agenda yet, but they do have a tentative agenda.
listed and it looks like they they have some some issues they are asking for a potential executive session and I think it may have to do with personnel matter just FYI that's that's what I'm gleaning from that notice all right but if you want any information just go to cityofhomer-ak.gov if you want more information on
the special meeting on Monday, just click on the link. You'll see it all the way to the right, and just click through. You'll find the agenda, and there's more information there. All right, that does it for our public announcements for this morning. We're going to go ahead and take our first break of the morning when we come back. We will get into the headlines of the day. Stay with us. Aaron Morrison. Amy Demboski. 6 to 8 mornings on NewsRadio 650 KENI. Call now. 907-522-0650.
Welcome back, Kurt. I am 621. On this Thursday morning, I gotta be honest with you. Like, Donald Trump is the greatest troll that may have ever lived. Like, he, it is hilarious. Like, okay, so I... I had to see. I was laughing. You know, I've been watching it for a few years, quite a few years, and I used to always tell people, if you go to Antifa.com, when Joe Biden was running for president in 2020,
If you go to Antifa, if you went back then to Antifa.com, it automatically rerouted to his campaign page. Yep. And then when he became governor, I mean governor, president, when he became president. When you went to antifa.com, it immediately went to whitehouse.gov. Right. So redirected to, so it was clear, like, they were clearly courted in this radical segment of the population, right? I mean, obviously. And then I laughed because at like 12.05 on Inauguration Day, I hit.
antifa.gov and it rerouted to a wikipedia page for the 2020 election between joe biden and donald trump basically saying you know joe biden won and da da da and uh you know i think it's down now because yesterday I tried it, and I got an error message, so I think it's down now. But I laugh. I mean, it goes to show, I mean, these people, man. But I had to laugh because I went to WhiteHouse.gov on Inauguration Day, too.
I don't know if you've gone to WhiteHouse.gov since President Trump is there. Not yet. And typically, oh, Daryl, you've got to do it. You've got to do it. I did, actually. It is so funny. Usually when you go to whitehouse.gov, there's this sketch of the White House, and this is the White House. And then under it, it'll say, President so-and-so. Well, it has the graphic there, and it's really, really small.
And now there's a picture of Donald Trump, and he's pointing, and it says, America is back. I'm like, this is so beautiful. So just now I logged into it. And it starts to put up the page of it. And then it turns to this giant full screen, six helicopters, military helicopters riding over. Then the jets coming over. And then Donald Trump.
I've never seen the pictures so big and so bright on my screen. I've got to tell you, the video is awesome. See, the video doesn't pop up for me anymore because, you know, I've gone to the website so many times and I've just clicked out of it. But when you click out of the video, you'll see the picture I'm talking about. So click out of the video. Do you see it yet? You mean Trump pointing at me? Yeah, and now when you scroll down a little bit, it says America is back.
Oh, no, that is awesome. And then pointing at us, that's actually, again, this is like some of the highest graphics I've seen on this screen before. I had to tell you, I'd like to see you at me. The video you referenced, when you first go there, you'll get a pop-up. And this is a very patriotic video that pops up. And it's awesome. I'm sorry. That was awesome. I literally was engrossed.
watching him go over. I was like, oh, yeah, yeah. And then, like I said, Donald there. And yeah, this one where he's looking and pointing. It's almost the Uncle Sam, I want you. But instead of him looking directly at you, he's looking at the guy behind me, which.
Donald, why don't you want me? It is great. And then he has a little narrative under there, and it says, every single day I will be fighting for you with every breath in my body. I will not rest until we have delivered the strong, safe, and prosperous. America that our children deserve and that you deserve. This will truly be the golden age of America. Okay.
I got to tell you, he is the greatest. He is the greatest. I mean, he is truly the greatest troll of all time. And I got to give him this. Also, you go a little bit further down on it and it's got the administration. And it's got Donald J. Trump, which, again, that's one of those classic pictures of him when he goes on whatever currency he's going to go on. I'm pretty sure that's the picture they're going to use. J.D. Vance and then Melania Trump.
right next to him, right next to JD, and then the cabinet. So in other words, you got to go in and look at the cabinet. But I don't think I've ever seen the White House put the first lady as prominently. on the page with the White House as they did right here. It looks great. It looks awesome.
Yeah, it looks really great. I mean, this is some stellar graphics on WhiteHouse.gov. It's really nice. And then they have these great things about the White House. You can click on a link now that talks about Camp David, about Air Force. I mean, it's kind of very educational. It's interesting. You know, another thing that is interesting is his executive order. So when you go to that page, whitehouse.gov, and I check this every day.
now because there's so much that's going on the first thing as you start to scroll down there's a box that says executive actions you just click on that box And then it will start from the most recent. It will list each of these executive orders that he has. And like I said the other day, I mean, there was five pages the other day. Now there's six pages. So it goes through. from most recent as you click through the page as you go back to the earliest. But now, as far as the last 24 hours,
President Donald Trump has re-designated the Houthis as a foreign terrorist organization. Biden should have never taken him off. It's ridiculous. He's granted an executive grant of clemency for A gentleman named Terrence Sutton. I don't have the details. I read that the other day. Yesterday, I read it, but I don't remember it. And then he's also designated Ansar Allah as a foreign terrorist organization.
What else do we have here? Here we go. They put up a couple fact sheets regarding protecting the United States from closing the borders to illegals via proclamation. They have a fact sheet up over that. national emergency at southern border um he has right here this is the one i popped up earlier lending ending illegal discrimination and restoring merit-based opportunity The purpose, it says, longstanding federal civil rights laws protect individual Americans from discrimination.
based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. These civil right protections serve as the bedrock, supporting equality of opportunity for all Americans.
As president, I have a solemn duty to ensure that these laws are enforced for your benefit of all Americans. Yet today, roughly 60 years after the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, critical and influential institutions of American society including the federal government major corporations financial institutions the medical industry large commercial airlines law enforcement agencies and institutions of higher education have adopted the
and actively use dangerous, demeaning, and immoral race and sex-based preferences under the guise of so-called diversity, equity, and inclusion, or DEI.
violate the civil rights laws of the nation, illegal DEI policies not only violate the text and spirit of our longstanding federal civil rights laws, They also undermine our national unity as they deny discredit and undermine the traditional American values of hard work, excellence, and individual achievement in favor of unlawful, corrosive, and pernicious identity-based spoils system.
Hardworking Americans who deserve a shot at the American dream should not be stigmatized, demeaned, or shut out of opportunities because of their race or sex. And so this goes on, and it says, basically that the federal government will enforce civil rights laws
ending illegal preferences and discrimination. So he is actively going after DEI programs saying it's discriminatory. That's what they're doing. They are. And that reminded me, I finally remembered my thought that I lost earlier. I remembered what it was. is gonna compare DEI basically to say you were failing in a class or group of kids, right? And you're failing at doing what everybody else is doing.
And they feel bad for you. And we have the participation trophies for everybody and stuff. It's kind of like them taking a couple of kids into the back kitchen and saying, here, have a cupcake. I know you didn't do it. Nobody else is going to get a cupcake. We're going to advance you and give you extra special stuff. Well, because you got treated badly. Or because you're a certain color. When I say treated badly, I try to take it out of race and color. They're doing it with gender.
Yeah, but that's what DEI is. Yeah, and, you know, he makes the point in here, and, you know, it's what I've been saying all along. The problem with DEI is it's trying to create. equality of outcome right and he says right in here when he starts talking about he about it he said the whole point here is equality of opportunity for all Americans
I mean, that's the distinct difference. Like, we all have the opportunity to get off our butts, work hard, and be successful. If you choose to stay home and play your Sega... Look at me jump back to the past. If you choose to sit home and sit on the couch eating popcorn and smoking a bong, you're probably not going to be as successful as a person who gets up at 5 o'clock in the morning and busts their butt every day. I'm just throwing it.
out there or just you know the automatic um what do they call it promotion in the schools so you get your 100 on all your tests because you've done it right you've learned the stuff and the kid over there who like you said plays sagan doesn't do anything oh he gets passed through anyways and i found the answer to the two pardons you didn't know.
Yeah, well, one of them I did. I read it yesterday. I just don't remember because I didn't care that much. Both pardons are the same thing. They were the two pardoned two D.C. police officers who were convicted for their roles in the death of a black man during a pursuit during the... It's a tense period of unrest from George Floyd. Okay, yep, yep. All right, well, there you go. There you go. Well, he's, look.
Trump is wasting no time. He is going to make the most of every single day of this presidency. Thank God he is. But here's the thing, and this is what we have to remember. Everything he does by executive order can be undone by executive order. So Congress has to take action. We're going to see the same type of thing when it comes down to illegal immigration, when it comes down to...
birthright citizenship, like all of these things, a lot of these things are going to be challenged in the courts. But beyond that, a lot of these things are actually going to take congressional action. I'm not the biggest fan of everything being done by executive order because I think there's a role for Congress to play. But when Trump goes after things like DEI and federal hiring preferences,
That's within the purview of the federal government, right? Because he is the executive. He's in charge of the administrative branch. So he absolutely has this. But this is where we lead into, look, I've seen it. On the state level, I've seen it on the city level, and he is going to see it on the federal level, and we already have examples of this, where the deep state will push back. There's little administrative tricks that they can play to try to embed their people.
to try to insulate themselves from the executive. There's all these games. Look, these people have had years to learn the system, to know how all the little mechanisms work, to know how to hide things. They know how this crap works, and he is already dealing with it, especially when it comes to DEI, right? You think Trump's ending all the DEI positions, right? He's ending them.
But are the people going away? I mean, again, there's all these personnel-like little tricks that can be played, and I'll share some of those that happen here at state level and local level. I'll share with you a little bit of what he's going to deal with and the things that we do. deal with here let's take a quick break we'll be right back Reach out to Amy now. 907-522-0650. That's 907-522-0650. It's Amy Demboski on NewsRadio 650 KENI.
All right, so Trump has put out an executive order ending illegal discrimination and restoring merit-based opportunity. What does that mean? DEI programs are in his crosshairs. DEI programs done, gone. in the federal government, we're going to hire people based on merit and based on ability and based on qualifications. That's really what that means. But here's what he is up against. He's up against the bureaucracy.
what we love to call the deep state and you have to know there are so many ways from sunday that these people can hide they re-allocate all these things and i'm going to start with what's happening on the federal level and then i will tell you my own experience of what i've seen working multiple transitions now what happens Deep State, this coming from Must Read Alaska, ATF worked around Trump's DEI orders by changing job titles for chief diversity officer. It wasn't...
professional journalists who uncovered that ATF was defying President Donald Trump's orders to end diversity preference hiring. It was a citizen journalist. What these citizens discovered was that after Trump ordered agencies to eliminate all positions dedicated to diversity, equity, and inclusion, the ATF simply changed the job title of its chief diversity officer, Lisa Boinkin. Must read Alaska investigated the claim and confirmed its validity. Indeed, Boykin...
is now listed as Senior Executive Office of the Director. However, on January 20th, before Trump's directive, her title was Chief Diversity Officer. With this new title, it will likely be more difficult to terminate her position and refocus the agency to its essential mission. Now, here's the interesting part. Usually when there is a change that's made relating to personnel,
It can be undone. Oftentimes, just changing a title, I don't believe that that's going to protect this lady. Because especially if she's been in a DEI position for a year, two years, whatever it's been, and all of a sudden this comes out and they just change the title. If her job duties are the same, it's clearly just a title change. You can change the title back, right? You can change the title back, and then that's it.
They're going to do this. The other thing they're going to do is transfers. They're going to take people who are in these positions and they're going to transfer them to other positions and they're going to try to embed them. It happens in every single transition. I don't care what level of government you're in, this happens all the time. It happened at the state level when I worked for the governor. It happened at local level when I worked for the mayor.
i don't often talk about the transitions i've participated in but you know today's the day it's happening So when I dealt with the transition from the Berkowitz administration to the Bronson administration, it was my job to transition the government. So that's what I did. I volunteered. I did it. It was no big deal. I mean, it was a lot of work. And I had like three or four people to help me do it. They were amazing, by the way.
But the very first thing I ask for, as soon as there's a transition, a new elected head honcho is put in place, then you start the negotiations with the existing administration. So what do I do? I pick up the phone. I call the director of human resources. I call the municipal attorney, and I say this is what I want. This is who I am. I'm representing the transition. I want a list.
of all of your executive positions right because every executive position is subject to appointment by by the new governor or the new mayor the second thing i ask for and not very many people are honestly smart enough to ask for this, but the second thing I always ask for, anybody who's been transferred positions or has transferred positions in the past 90 days. That's smart.
The first, I always ask for that my very first phone call. I want to know who the executives are. I want to know what their salary is, right? So I ask a lot of questions relating to each position because I want to know how much the current administration is paying for each. these positions I want to know who's in those positions
I want to know anybody who's been transferred in the past 90 days. And the reason you do 90 days is because specifically with the municipality of Anchorage, anybody who's been put in any new position in the last 90 days, they can't. on a probationary period and they can be let go for any reason and this is where political appointments always get embedded within the new organization because people don't think far enough ahead
realistically, they always think their guy's going to win, so they want to keep their highfalutin position so they don't transfer early enough to be safe, frankly. And everybody, look, it's not just about... what political affiliation you are. It's not about that actually at all. What it is, is you have somebody who is hostile to the new administration's directives, mission, and are they qualified for the position?
they've been put into. And most often, they're political hacks that have been moved around and shoved into a PCN position. They've been shoved into a position, and they're not qualified for it. I mean, they are political embed, you know, people who work for, you know, we won't name organizations in Anchorage, but we see this a lot. And look, anybody who's worked for me or with me will tell you.
I don't fire people because they're Democrats. I've actually made recommendations for people. I look for the best qualified person. But the best qualified person also cannot be hostile to the administration. So if you have two people that are equally qualified, if one of them is hostile to the administration and they are going to sabotage you from within, no executive in their right mind is going to keep them.
So you have to watch for transfers. You have to watch for all of this stuff. And it is so there's a lot of things that you look for. And you just go through each executive appointment because the governor or the mayor, or in this case the president, has every single right to form their own team. And you give everybody an equal shot.
And you go through, and for all of these executive positions, you re-interview everybody to make sure that they're qualified. Number one is most important. But number two, that they will... be a good team player and they are going to execute their position to the expectations of the new elected official. And if they can't do that, you need to find somebody else.
Like I said, this is nothing new when you see this article about, oh, they're changing titles and, oh, they're moving people around. They're going to do that. They're absolutely going to do that. It's going to continue. And it's going to continue past this administration. Like every single administration does it. Everybody does it. Can you answer a question for me? What is a senior executive?
Office of the Director, because that's what they changed their title to. It's a meetup title. It's a meetup. So when I look it up, what they tell me is this person provides policy, guidance, and advisory services. So in other words, hey, what do you think? Here's the gate.
Here's again, it depends on the classification, right? The other thing you will see, which is a trick, is if they take somebody who's in a non-rep position, that means you're not part of a union, and they put them in a rep position, which means you're represented, then those... can become harder to fire. However,
However, you can't just call somebody represented. They have to fit the classification, and there's always a classification, right? And it describes the type of work that is done. And you can't just all of a sudden be like, oh, we're just going to change your title. I'm telling you right now. This chick ain't safe. No way. From anything I've ever done, just changing her title. Look, if she's a senior executive, it's likely a non-rep position.
which means it's subject to the will of the president. He gets to build his own team. So that's the key, is how have they moved here? I don't know the federal classifications. Other than the military, I've never worked for the federal government, so I can't speak to their unions and their representation. But my guess is if she's a senior executive providing policy guidance, this is...
more than likely somebody who is subject to presidential whims, whether he wants to keep her or not. I'm not going to hire somebody who's a DEI proponent to be my policy advisor. Are you kidding me? It's like telling me I'm going to have AOC be my policy advisor on the environment. Never going to happen. She's an idiot, number one. And she pushed the Green New Deal, which is completely a scam. You know what I'm saying?
Somebody's going to be a policy advisor. You're probably going to pick somebody who, number one, has a significant expertise on the issue that is at hand. But number two, somebody who believes in the same kind of ideology or the same kind of thought process when it comes to the topic. And, like, again.
Let's see. We should put the countdown clock on how long Lisa Boykin works for the ATF, because my guess is it's not going to be that long. All right, we're going to go ahead and take a quick break. When we come back, we will go straight to the phone. Stay with us. Now, back to the boss. Amy Demboski. Call 907-522-0650 and be a part of the show on News Radio 650. KENI.
Welcome back. Current time is 6.53. We're going to go straight to the phones. And Bill is with us. Can you pick him up for me, Daryl? I have to reset my phones. Good morning, Bill. Good morning. How's everyone there? Wonderful. What's on your mind, sir? Well, I think another tactic to get rid of the DEI hires is, you kind of alluded to it, but Elon Musk could do this. Let's look at the budget for the DAEI department for the last couple years and then go to Congress and cut that budget amount.
in the next budget proposal. Exactly. You know, Bill, I've actually used this strategy where you had a problem person, and I've eliminated the position in the budget. Absolutely. I mean, but the problem that you have is it's not just, like, one. Like, they don't have, like, a department of necessarily DEI if they do. But what they do is they embed these positions in every department. And so you have to go department.
by department. I mean, there's real work to get it done, but it can be done. You have to go department by department and you have to say, is this a mission critical position? If it's not a mission critical position, why are we keeping it? And I think that's what Elon musk will do largely but i think he's gonna he's gonna look at a large scale like is this department even needed should we cut it but i think you are right on target i mean you have to actually
You kind of have to outfox the fox in these positions because a lot of these people that work for government, they've been there a long time. They know the personnel rules. They know how all the air works. And they know how to survive. They know how to stay. within the system because they've been in it so long oftentimes. And again, I have no problem with government workers. I've worked with people that I have absolutely adored. They were sensational at their job.
But when you're actually trying to cut the government and say, what is mission critical? And you have programs like DEI, again, renaming somebody's title. Keeping the same person basically in the same position and just changing the title, I just don't think it passes the red face test at all. Right. I mean, every public employee, federal or state, their salaries are public information. So you just go.
find out last year who was under the DAI department, their salaries, and you cut the budget by that salary amount and just choke them that way. I also prefer to call the DOGE program federal liposuction. We're going to get rid of all the useless fat in the government. I love that. That's the first time I've heard somebody say that. I love that. I'm in here laughing. That's fantastic. Bill, thank you so much. Great comments this morning.
All right. Have a good day. You too, sir. All right. Let's go to Randy. Oh, I can't pick him up. Can you pick him up? Good morning, Randy. Good morning, Ms. Sunshine and Daryl. Apologies, apologies up front. The joke is, why did astrologists cross the road? Why did the astrologist cross the road? I don't know why. To get to the other sign. To get to the other sign? That's cute. I will tell you, Randy.
I told a lot of people your French fry joke yesterday, and everybody laughed. They loved it. I had a board meeting yesterday in a room of about 40 or 50 people, and they had a little few minutes to kill. Wow. One of them asked me for a dad joke and your joke was the one I told and everybody loved it.
I got to tell you, it was awesome. Hey, I'm running up against my break real quick. I got to put you back on hold. I'm going to take a quick commercial. Then when we come back, I'll come back to you. You can take us with you wherever you go. All right, well, some of the conversations that are happening right now, I have to tell you, man, Trump is on. He's all over it. You know, it came out.
Just a couple days ago, too. Trump paused U.S. foreign development aid for 90 days pending review. This is coming from Reuters. U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday ordered a 90-day pause in foreign development assistance pending assessments. of efficiencies and consistency with his foreign policy. Here's a quote.
all departments and agency heads with responsibility for united states foreign development assistance programs shall immediately pause new obligations and disbursements of development assistance funds So basically what he's saying is, look, he meant business when he said America first. If we're not taking care of people at home, why are we sending our money out to foreigners? You know, and again, is our...
support of foreign governments and foreign development, is that in the best interest of the United States? If the answer is no, we're not going to be doing it. It's really that simple. It's not that complicated. And I think Trump has... has made it very clear to everybody he means business. All right, let's go back to the phones. And Randy was with us before the break. We're going to go back to him so he has a chance to finish his thought. Randy, what's on your mind this morning?
First, I apologize for blowing up your program yesterday. But this PSA needs to be, I didn't get up early enough to see this PSA. Tonight at 6 p.m. Uh, at the Valley Republican Women's, uh, of Alaska at, uh, Matthew Family Restaurant. Mm-hmm. It's going to be discussed right, repeal the right choice voting. And Kim McCarthy's going to be there. Great. So anybody want to really get involved and try to get this done, we've got two years. Let's get it done.
Yeah, amen. That's a great PSA. Randy, thank you for calling this morning. Do you have anything else that's on your mind? No. I really appreciate your podcast, though, because all Monday I was watching. all day Mondays watching the inauguration. Yes. And when it got low, I went to your podcast.
Oh, good, good. Well, we appreciate you listening, Randy. I'm sure I'll probably see you tonight, okay? Okay, great. All right, my friend. All right, see you soon. Bye-bye. All right, let's go to Dr. Farr. Good morning, ma'am. Hey, good morning. So, yeah, there's some things that have come up, like George Soros having majority interest in 200 radio shows or stations across the United States.
I mean, I think that needs to be addressed. How did he, a foreigner, going to be influencing so many people they say they estimate that reaches 165 million U.S. citizens? And so that's something that Trump needs to investigate if he's already not on top of that. You know, the Fauci, people were talking about that this morning, and they gave him a federal pardon, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the states can't come against him. And I've heard information that maybe Russia wants him extra.
for crimes against humanity. So this is going to be a very interesting time because Joe Biden issued 8,064 pardons. OK, and they're talking about his family, but they've not been charged with the crime. So is that even legal? Because you have to have been charged with offenses against the nation according to the Constitution, according to this attorney that I was listening to. And so it's going to be very interesting to see if those can actually hold up.
Doing all the drug dealers are people that were in possession of marijuana, and a lot of times they're drug dealers that pled down. And so releasing all those people back onto the street is not going to be... positive for america now especially when we're trying to get rid of drugs because of the fentanyl crisis because of china bringing all the drugs across the border So anyway, it's going to be interesting to see. He's the person that's issued the most pardons.
in the history of the united states now there were some rebellions early on the whiskey tax rebellion and stuff where the presidents did issue pardons to people that were basically protesting against taxes So there have been larger numbers in the past, but not to the extent that is going on now. So I fully expect a lot of Supreme Court challenges against these.
And then with Stargate that they were talking about, the other thing that concerned me about that, besides the HIPAA violations by having medical records integrated all across the United States, You know, once you have physicians, that many people that have access to records, there is no privacy anymore. But the other thing that concerned me was this mRNA technology.
Now, there is some RNA technology injectable that is being used like for people now that have produced too many, say, triglycerides. And the mRNA technology is being used to actually hit those liver cells, kill them. reduce the triglycerides in these people and dramatically reduce the risk of premature cardiovascular death. So it is being used for that, but this mRNA technology where the guy claims that within...
48 hours you can actually have a vaccine to cure your cancer. I think that's really far-fetched, and it's also...
very dangerous because we know that this mRNA goes all over the body, affects organs all over the body, and I just don't think the technology is there yet. And I'm really concerned that because they can produce these vaccines so much faster, with this mRNA technology, they're pushing it, and a lot of the new vaccines, and I just don't think that the safety data is there, especially when you have...
well over 36,000 deaths on the VAERS system. And we know that's only about one-tenth of the people that actually died from the COVID vaccine. So, you know, and then you've got, you know, 1.1 million reported. side effects, the people that had side effects. And again, that's only one-tenth of the number of people. So we injured far more people with the vaccine than we did any benefit because we know it doesn't prevent disease and it doesn't prevent transmission of disease.
The other thing that concerns me is this data that they're going to be collecting on vaccines through this new state initiative vaccine program. Because I was just talking to someone I know, and apparently during COVID, Any people that were associated with the health care profession, what they did was they took and looked at their vaccine records and then linked them to their businesses and were calling these businesses up.
and saying, hey, you're unvaccinated, we can come and give you vaccines. That is a pure, pure HIPAA violation and is a way to try and force people. And so if they were doing that kind of... data collection through the governor here during covid what in the heck are they going to do with this new data collection program um
through the state of Alaska. So I have real concerns about this, and most people are so frustrated because they've had loved ones that either had side effects or died from these vaccines, the COVID vaccine. that they are very vaccine resistant at this point in time. Sure. And so understandably so. And so I think this is actually going to rebound and have a very negative side effect.
And that's why we need to get someone in there that's going to provide clarity because Kennedy is not anti-vaccine. All of his kids have been vaccinated. He's been vaccinated. You know, but he says some of these vaccines were released with minimal trials. like one of the polio vaccines that was introduced in 91. They had only like 30 people that were vaccinated. There was no control group, and then it was just released on the general public.
And so we need to have clarity because some of these vaccines are very good. Some of them are very bad. And why did our autism rate go from 1 in 10,000 to 1 in 20 kids now? There's something that's going on. Is it food contamination? Is it the Roundup? Is it the vaccines? I mean, I want Kennedy and some of these other people to get in there and look at our food supply, look at the GMOs, look at Roundup, look at the vaccines. I mean, what is causing this dramatic change in our youth? Yeah.
Anyway, we really need to write because asthma is apparently writing against Kennedy. A lot of their members are in favor of Kennedy. And just like they wrote against my license during COVID, there were a couple people that were... upset at what we were doing telling the truth and actually trying to treat people early
They wrote against my license, and they're doing the same thing, trying to say, oh, this is all our membership is against Kennedy, which is baloney. And so people really need to get involved and get Murkowski and Sullivan to vote in favor. of Kennedy so we can shed some light on all the contamination of our food supply and possibly get the vaccine schedule either changed.
or some of these vaccines that may be toxic actually removed that they've not told us the truth about. Yeah, I think that's exactly what needs to happen. And, you know, I think with somebody like Kennedy, who clearly has that inquisitive spirit and is willing to...
to investigate and call things out that are effectively poison, whether it's in our food supply or otherwise. I think it'll be good to have that critical eye. And I think it needs to happen and have a robust fashion, especially with the data metrics that
you point out something is going on and we should want a government who wants to get to the bottom of it to keep people healthy you know I mean it just makes a lot of sense Dr. Farr I'm hitting my commercial break but thank you for calling in this morning we appreciate the conversation Thank you. Bye. All right. Have a good day. All right. We're going to take a quick break, and we will be right back.
You're listening to live, local, and always insightful Morning Drive Radio with Amy Demboski on NewsRadio 650 KENI. Get on the show now by calling 907-522-7000. So to talk about, you know, Trump being over target, Dr. Farr brought up George Soros buying the audacity.
I think it's Odyssey. It's Odyssey, yes. The other one is a different one. I almost said Audacity, I know, and I stopped myself. It was the Odyssey radio stations. There was like 200 of them. And we talked about it during the election because it was happening. and being reported around September-October time frame.
You know, this is what he was trying. And it had to go through FCC approval to get it done. And there was an FCC commissioner. His name was Brendan Carr. And he's an attorney. And he comes out. He's like, wait a second. Why are they creating this new fast track? opportunity for George Soros to buy 200 radio stations during a presidential election like what is going he's like this isn't right and he called it out and that's how it really we got we kind of got a glimpse that this was happening
And lawmakers have now said, hey, what is going on? So this has been kind of looked into and started to be evaluated since, I would say, September, October of last year. But now the FCC commissioner that was the one raising the red flag, he's now in charge of the FCC.
Interesting, huh? That's the way to do it. Yeah. That's why I say Donald Trump's paying attention because clearly now this guy's, you know, the one that was like, hang, hang on a second. Why are we giving special treatment to George? I'll tell you why. It's because, you know, a few months ago, Democrats were in charge of the FCC. That's why.
i mean it's it's really not more complicated than that that is why can i make one comment here because so you you've got george soros right buying that the democrats had no problem with it that was absolutely awesome but starting last week oligarchs are taking over the government oh my god look at all these tech titans at the trump inauguration event you know the reason they're freaking out is because the tech Titans have...
switch sides for this term okay let's be honest let's be honest they go wherever the benefit is to them do i believe that mark zuckerberg has all of a sudden had a change of heart and all of a sudden now he's a conservative and believes in Absolutely, positively not. I don't trust that guy for one second. Not one second. But here's the thing.
They love it when all the billionaires are behind them. Do you hear them talking about oligarchs when Zuckerberg last time put like $400 million into the Democrats' presidential campaign? Bill Gates. A big one right there. Bill Gates. Not a word. Everything in there. Not a word. They don't say nothing. Are they calling out Michael Bloomberg? No, not a word. Again, it's hypocrisy. I mean, that's what it is. They only whine.
when they're not on their side. When it doesn't win for them. The other thing about this whole Soros thing is that there's rules in the United States that say foreign-born individuals may not own broadcast... may not own controlling interest in broadcast organizations. I had a deal with this back in the 90s when a radio station I worked for. The owner was American. His wife was a British national. He passed away.
She had to sell all of her shares in the radio station. She was a wonderful person because she was a British national. So Soros, who is a foreign entity. was being allowed to buy these by trickery in my opinion because he used a non-profit that is funded by him to buy the radio stations. Kind of like using a non-profit to buy a hotel.
Right. Yeah, exactly. It doesn't pass the red face test. And that's why I say, but when the issue comes up, I guarantee that the Trump team knows about this. It's pretty obvious. Like I said, it's been reported. just two days ago that Brendan Carr, he was the FCC commissioner that raised the red flag on this. He's now been tapped to...
to be in charge of the FCC. So there you go. I'm very excited about that. So that's just one more example of... uh the trump team understanding the lay of the land that they're up against all right let's go to the next one okay i just reset my phones again so let's see if i can pick it up i think this is ken good morning
Hey, we've got an earthquake happening politically here, and you're touching on some of it. And I don't know if Trump does these things. And what I'm talking about right now is all his actions against all the Green New Deal stuff. And you go to the EV pages right now on Facebook, they're having a meltdown. I know. It's getting cracked up. Where's my free stuff? Oh, my God, it's out there. You're not going to build all these charging stations for me. What's wrong? And here's another person.
We went to the carbon capture presentation last night, and across the bureaucracy of almost every state, they said Biden, Biden, Biden, Biden on all the spending. It was actually Republicans, like Dunleavy and all this, doing the Green New Deal expenditure to the carbon capture.
The carbon credits and the hydrogen plan and the renewables, that'd be them. That's why during the State of the Union address, Biden looked out there and said, you guys like that money. I know you do, right? He was allowed to be smart with them because he was 100% correct. putting stained teeth and now this state is particularly at a juncture holding its breath to see what trump's actually going to do and sometimes he does these things maybe he doesn't mean to gut
all that was set up because there's so much money expended right now that I worry that he's not going to undo it. But maybe he's just saying a thing, saying, I could have shut it down, so you kind of owe me on this deal. You don't owe that old guy, Biden. So I don't know if he plays this, but there's a lot here. We'll see. The one thing, let's be realistic here. Trump is not a small government guy. I mean, and now...
Maybe in his first term he was not. Let's see what he does in his second term. Because the thought that he's bringing in Elon Musk, who I believe is a small government guy, and he's talking about Doge and cutting the government and all that kind of stuff. But if you look at Trump in his very... first term, Trump was not a small spender. He's very much a populist and he...
He just wasn't a small spender. I mean, you can't look at the budgets that he, or you can't look at the expenditures under Trump's first term and say he's a small government guy. Do I think he's had a change? I think something has changed, because with his discussion about bringing in DOGE to reduce the federal workforce, that is a small government perspective, so we'll see.
But again, right now, I can't see what they're saying. I can't hear what they're saying. But right now, Trump is addressing the World Economic Forum. He is live taking questions from business leaders from the W.E. or WEF, I mean. And we'll see where he gets. But look, world leaders are taking notice of Trump because they know he means business. And, you know, he has talked about...
America first, America first, America first. What that's going to look like, we know it's going to be secure borders. We know it's going to be, we're going to deal with America. We're not going to be sending endless amounts of foreign aid overseas. I think there's a lot of... a lot of America First agenda that Trump will push.
I'm not entirely convinced it's not going to cost money, but we'll see. He knows he has to get inflation under control. The number one thing you have to do to get inflation under control is you have to ratchet back government spending. You have to do that. All the programs and the thing that we have that we're dealing with, I would have felt better if all he would have said to the World Economic Forum, see that fan over there? Go pee in that thing for a while and I'll come back to you.
this incredible carbon control industrial complex that's been built up with thousands and thousands of legions on this Green New Deal thing. I don't know how he's going to stop that train because it is a monster. Well, you know, we'll see. You know, I think time will tell. I think Trump is headed in the right direction. I think he has a much different America than he had his first term. I think his first term he had, you know, he was getting used to it.
He trusted people he shouldn't have trusted. And he was kind of like, okay, you know, he was put into a system. He's told this is how it works. Now he understands the system, and he says,
I'm going to change the system, and I understand that's how you do it. We're going to do it differently. And I think that's the major difference you're seeing already in this second term. We're not even a week in yet, and you're seeing the difference. So I think there's a possibility, but the America he has today is... in America that has dealt with high inflation, has dealt with high crime, has dealt with national security issues and heat.
and has dealt with energy issues. We're talking about bad energy policy that ultimately is going to underpin the economic issues. So if he doesn't get energy rolls, If he doesn't get development rolling, then he's not going to be able to bring down the prices. So that's why I say I think this is a much...
I think this is a much different situation than he had in his first term. So I think I'm hoping to see a smaller government Trump. I'm hoping to see a smaller spending Trump. I'm hoping to see a smaller spending Congress. I'm hoping to see those. things only time will tell you know only time will tell so Kenton I appreciate the call this morning I'm gonna hit my bottom the hour so I'm gonna take a quick break we will be back
Amy Demboski, 6 to 8, mornings on News Radio 650, KENI. Call now, 907-522-0650. Welcome back, current time, 739. All right. So I have to address something because it just says it's kind of it's one of those things. I can't let certain comments go without addressing them because I don't want there to seem like there's tacit agreement. I try to be respectful of other people's positions and I am a big fan of Southern Ken. I adore him. I think he's great. I do not agree with him.
when he says the governor is a fan of the Green New Deal. I've worked for Governor Dunleavy. I've heard the governor talk about resource development. I have never, ever, ever Heard the governor say he supports the Green New Deal. In fact, he supports oil, gas, coal, hydro. wind, solar, whatever fits the situation, he is an above the board, all the above, I support resource development.
If you have somebody who has that position, it is exactly the contrary of somebody who supports the Green New Deal. The reason Ken and others... aren't the hugest Dunleavy fans, is because he supported, you know, creating an incentivizing companies to come in Alaska for carbon sequestration or to offset their carbon. And what this comes down to is, look,
I think these whole carbon things are nonsensical. At the end of the day, do I think we're going to get billions of dollars from people investing in carbon sequestration in Alaska? No, I don't buy it. I don't believe it's actually going to come.
your fruition but what has you have to fundamentally understand what has happened on a national level which is, especially under the Biden administration, many of these producers, and we're talking oil and gas producers, who went to the governor asking him to set this position. set this up in Alaska because what they realized is their equity flow, their money to be able to invest, the lenders that they go to were requiring them to have carbon offset programs in order to
to unleash money so they could invest in due development. So for example, Delta Airlines. How is Delta Airlines going to do carbon offset? They're an airline company. What do they do? They fly.
right obviously they're going to have emissions so part of their portfolio is to invest in places that you know to preserve forests or whatever so they can claim that they have a carbon program even though they're not like in development necessarily, but it unlocks capital for them because many of these corporate agencies were trying to force this carbon crap down our throat through equity.
through lending, through money. So the governor sets up a program and says, look, it's totally voluntary. If a company wants to pay the state of Alaska to effectively... You know, effectively lease 100 acres of forest and call those trees your carbon offset. We'll take your money. That's effectively with that program.
really was you know about right like i'm trying to like bring it down to a third grade level so everybody kind of gets the nuts and bolts of it because i will tell you For the vast majority of my listeners, and I've had many people stop me and actually tell me this, every time we start talking about carbon credit, like, they fall asleep.
Like, it is not a topic that the vast majority of people care about, to be honest with you. I'll just be candid with you. And so I know this is some people's most important issue, but by calling the governor a Green New Deal supporter, because he and he he helped create he created that program through the legislature and to me i think it's i think it's misleading i think it's wrong and i'm just like i feel like i have an obligation to to say that out loud because we've had ad nauseum daryl
In the past, we've had conversations about carbon. Oh, yes. Carbon credits, carbon capture. Carbon score. Carbon sequestration. I've got to be honest with you. I don't really care. It's not really my issue. Now, do I understand the issue? Yes, I understand the issue. Look, and at the base heart of it, we are never globally ever going to get to a zero emissions.
Like, it's never going to happen. We're never going to hit net zero. It's not going to happen. And at the end of the day, carbon's not bad for the environment. We need carbon to live. You are 100% right. Not only do we need it to live, but also my favorite carbon, and this is going to be a little bit off track here, but it is waffles. I love carbon waffles. And if any of you eat waffles in restaurants, you are most likely eating.
carbon waffles just so you know you know i have to say this i am not going to say which legislator this is but i have a legislator that just texted me and i i'm going to share the text message i just got And this legislature, I'm not going to tell you if it was male or female, because, you know, like, unless they give me permission, like, I'm just not going to say it. I had a producer in my office yesterday thanking me because it was helping them land capital.
This is exactly my point. The governor has a constitutional duty to develop and to advocate for all Alaska resources. And whether you want to accept it or not accept it, carbon capture, leasing out our seaweed. is a resource that is on the table that some people are going to pay us money for. Believe it or not, the ocean can capture lots of carbon. Right? So when you start talking about forests and seaweed and all this kind of nonsense, like, again, we may not buy it.
But there are capital investors that are forced in this nonsense, like they bought into it. And many of our oil and gas producers are flat out telling us, look. I can't unlock capital unless I have this in my portfolio. So when it comes down to it, it's not because Dunleavy is taking the green pill. It's because he's doing his constitutional duty.
to advocate and to develop Alaska's resources. This is just a different way of looking at it. And do I think at the end of the day, do I think all this carbon stuff is nonsense? I do. I really do. I think it puts us at a different... I look at Alaska and America on a global level, and I ask you, do you honestly think in China they're worried about carbon capture?
when they're developing their energy policies? No, they're not. They're building coal plants weekly. They're drilling over there. They're mining over there. They realize these types of
things that are being forced down our throats by investors and whatnot, China doesn't have to play the same game. But the reality is that is the playing field. And if we want to drill baby drill on the North Slope, If we want to mine, if we want to do those things in order for our companies that one do business in alaska to do business in alaska to have the capital to invest and to drill they have to be able to have access to capital and if
Look, if this carbon program is what's going to unleash Alaska's potential and drill baby drill, bring it on. I mean, that's kind of my position on it. I know I went on a tangent, didn't mean to go on a tangent, but I feel like... Sometimes silence is a tacit agreement. And look, everybody can have a different opinion, and I respect it. And I understand where it's coming from. And fundamentally, I agree these carbon things are just ridiculous.
But I also agree why it was put forward, and it was put forward because oil and gas producers were asking our government to give them another mechanism. to get capital investment so they can drill, baby, drill. So bring it on. Bring it on. All right, we're going to take...
One more commercial. Then when we come back, we are going to talk about a little bit of Alaska natural gas issues and some headlines that are popping because I think it's really important, especially if we're talking about brownouts in Alaska in February. I think we should all pay attention.
You know, Daryl, I know sometimes I get super wonky. And I think sometimes that's the difference between me and other radio hosts. Because you can read a headline and read an article. And I do. Many of them. But if you actually want to understand... What's happening? You've got to know the players in the game and the conversations that are happening behind the scenes. And you've got to understand that you've got to drill down into the motivations and what is actually creating the policy.
Whether it's the policy problem or whether it's the solution, right? You've got to be able to get beyond. You've got to use a little, as Carrie, my friend, would always tell us, it's important to have critical thinking skills. You've got to go beyond just like what's in front of you and you've got to drill down a little bit. And I guess that's why this whole carbon conversation just irritates me. You've got to see what's not in the headlines and out there.
you complain about your wonkiness. I think that's one of those things that makes it awesome is because you go the wonk route, but you bring it down to, and you said third grade level. No, you bring it down to more of a sixth grade level, which is, is. reasonable for most adults. We can understand what you're saying. We don't feel like we're being patronized when you say it. You explain it to us in a way that's like, I get it now.
And here's the thing, because knowledge is power. I love that. So when I try to explain something, I try to explain it, how somebody give me a complicated topic and explain it to me at that level. Because I want to truly understand. Understand what the crux of the issue is and why you're doing what you're doing. So I explain it to people the way I want it explained to me. Like, just cut out all the fluff and just give it to me. And, you know, we're going to deal with these.
issues look the alaska legislature one of the biggest issues they're going to deal with this year is are they going to take advantage of this golden opportunity the trump administration is giving us Are they going to, look, I do not want to see this opportunity fizzle away and miss it. I don't want to miss the boat. I want to get on the boat. Like, let's get together.
ADN has an article up today that everybody should be paying attention to because this is what you need to really get your legislators focused on. Rolling blackouts could loom for urban Alaska as natural gas crunch intensifies. Two urban Alaskan utilities at the state's consumer protection attorneys are warning about the risk of rolling blackouts amid an intensifying shortage of natural gas, the fuel used to generate the majority of the region's electricity.
Blackouts aren't imminent, according to officials, and would likely develop only in cold snap or other scenarios that test the urban Alaska grid. So what are they saying? Look, here's the reality. If we came so close, to losing our electric generation last year during a really big cold snap, it's not out of the realm of possibility. And the fact that we're talking about gas shortages even here in Cook Inlet.
is remarkable because the amount of resources we have just off our shores is unbelievable. It is absolutely ridiculous. that we have to deal with this. And we're not dealing with it because inability to produce. We're not dealing with it because we don't have the resources here in Alaska. It's strictly due to policy.
That's why we're dealing with it. Strictly due to policy. When the federal government comes in and they throw up every single roadblock possible to development, when you have these politicians that are like, oh, I don't know if we should develop it because it may not be good for the air and water. Are you kidding me? That just shows your ignorance. We do it better here than any other place on Earth. Of course we should do it.
And this is what the ADN's article is talking about. Diminishing supplies of natural gas in Alaska. Again, let's go back to the real reason. It's not because we don't have the supply. It's because we have regulators and politicians that are getting in the way of our development. That's it. It's that simple. So, again, every single person. Whether, I mean, look, who is largely, largely identified in this, Homer Electric, right?
You're 25,000 members. You should probably be paying attention to this conversation. MEA, Chugach Electric, Fairbanks. All of our friends that are listening to the show, nobody's going to get out of this unscathed if our politicians don't take action. So I'm telling you right now, there's a lot of conversations that are going to happen in Juneau this year.
They better get this one hammered out and they better get on board with the Trump agenda because otherwise it could get very dark and very cold in Alaska, especially in February. So, again, this is the topic I'm going to be paying a lot of attention to this year. All right, well, that does it for Daryl and I for today. Everybody, stay tuned. Why? Clay Travis and Buck Sexton are up next, followed by Sean Hannity at 11, and, of course, the great Mike Piccaro and Crash.
are live and local from 4 to 6. We will be back with you at 6 a.m. tomorrow morning. Until then, stay safe. God bless.
