¶ The Evolving American Dream's Meaning
Hello, this is your host DeMarco Jones. And this is your other host Morgan. Today the question is... Do you think the American dream is still possible for this generation? So, let's get to it. What is your opinion? My opinion is I think that there are so many different American trees because every person has their own.
like, American dream idea. Back in the day, it used to be, like, the big house, the white picket face, the man, the wife, two kids, boy, girl, and a dog. I would say cats are better. But you know what, we're not getting into that argument today. Just have a boat. But, um, we could have a cat dog. But today, it's like, it could be a man and a man, a girl and a girl, a girl.
band dude i don't even know it could be so many things you could have five wives or five husbands and wives today and people don't like there's still people that judge that but a lot of people will be like dude don't judge them this is how they want to live their life and that's how they want to live
life because of all the generation of people having to hide themselves i think like these years the years where people like you know i don't want to hide i'm done i'm sick and tired of it i want to be like happy even though that's not technically possible to be happy with your life. My therapist told me that one because I told my therapist I wouldn't be happy because that's not really a goal because you can't be happy. It's like, oh wow, thanks. My depression got worse. Anyways, so yeah.
I think there's not really a definition for the American dream. What do you think? I think the question does revolve around the dream. personally it is possible in our generation we just need to be focused on it and not focused on doing the fun stuff like oh drugs and you know i think it depends like depends on the drug
No, it doesn't. It does. No, it doesn't. It does. Shush. It does. It doesn't. So, not going to lie. Not going to lie. The possibility of achieving the American dream in this generation is indeed. a high a high thing you can still achieve it you just gotta focus on it you gotta have the right edumacation you gotta have the right uh people around you because you don't want to have to be around the wrong crowd and be like Yeah, this is my dream. Your dream should be more real, you know? Yeah.
Because not everyone grows up one day and says, I want to be a stripper. I want to be a drug dealer. I think that nowadays, a lot of people, even though YouTube is going to act... absolute crap a lot of people they wanted to be youtubers and stuff even though i feel like yes that's okay and you can try that but you always have to have a backup plan and i think
Because there are a lot of people that did that, that had jobs as they were doing it, just in case it flopped. And I think that you should do that with every goal you have. Like in college, you have a goal you want to do, but just in case that flops, have a backup plan no matter what.
¶ Societal Changes and Dream's Complexity
So, the American dream is also something that's just so complex. It is a dream of America. It is the American dream.
America has changed. It's changed so much over all the years that back in the day of the American dream, we had it. We knew what it was, but now that we've changed so drastically, we have no idea. Because one day, they were like, what's your opinion you're like what the heck you're asking for our opinion okay we'll tell you and like ever since that happened ever since i feel like ever since woman has gotten their like voice out there like a lot more people have been coming out
change why are you doing this it's yeah what you said um Now think nowadays everyone everyone wants to dream everyone has their specific dreams But it cuts back in the day you had to have a specific dream You can't be like wait what if I want to get married to someone else that is like me?
That's not possible. Get over there and marry that woman. That's like how it used to be, but nowadays it's just free and open to some people. We still have a president who's dwelled heavily on separation of people. Yeah change So which by the way off topic, but did you know that the whole like system of that? Does that work like back in the day when like the segregation of like?
the state, whatever, whatever. I don't know my map. But whenever the security guards weren't there, they would come and go freely. They wouldn't stay here. the like the Mexicans and other people that come in here to America they get scared of wanting they get scared because they like leasing a home or something they can't go back so they just stay here you know
That makes sense. That is a little bit off topic. And I do believe that is all the time we have today. So, I hope you guys have enjoyed such a podcast. We'll see you in our next one. Bye!
