Humorously Detoxing Religion with April Ajoy
Episode description
Joking how she is a recovering conservative navigating her own faith deconstruction journey through a comedic lens, April starts off by addressing the age old question of “why do bad things happen to good people,” with her parallel story to Kristina's journey on parental loss and how people in the church have historically responded poorly to illness alongside black and white thinking. Bring a tissue, and then be prepared to laugh as they discuss how to handle the trolling that comes with saying things against the status quo, April’s upbringing as a child of a famous Pastor, when she decided she was no longer a raving conservative, and being called names because she has red hair and doesn’t like Trump. Chatting about dating and her marriage story alongside deconstruction, they joke about why dating is still the weirdest thing ever, and how to find Kristina a fellow funny man. A full circle of a convo, it's evident the world is grateful April’s voice, as is Kristina for the new friendship.
April is a film producer turned content creator who uses humor to shine light on the harmful, toxic and sometimes just weird traits of evangelicalism. She grew up a pastor's kid, singing in churches worldwide and on several Christian TV shows and eventually worked as a producer for CBN as an adult. She now identifies as a "recovering conservative" and is navigating through her own faith deconstruction journey through a comedic lens on TikTok, Twitter and Instagram.
