James Waterson reports on the day’s results from the US Open. American teenager Christina McHale upset eighth-seeded Marion Bartoli 7-6 (2), 6-2, and another American, Irina Falconi, beat Wimbledon quarterfinalist Dominika Cibulkova in three sets. Another American teen, Jack Sock, won his first ever match at the US Open when he took down Marc Giquel in four sets. Andy Murray and Juan Martin del Potro won in straight sets, and Julien Benneteau upset 10th-seeded Nicolas Almagro in straight sets.
