we have some fabulous news to share with you the next few episodes will be a special series our podcast has joined up with Florence Art Center in West Cumbria to be part of an exhibition half of glass takes you on a journey to microscopic Center of nuclear glass scientists at the University of Manchester the University of Ottawa in Canada and the Museum of Natural History in Berlin have captured some incredibly detailed micrographs of stimulants of vitrified nuclear waste there are glossy
regions there are crystals in there and the team have mapped the different chemical elements with impressive accuracy the images and videos are on display at the art center for a few months from the end of March and we're providing some insight into our upcoming three-part series which features some special guests the first episode will focus on science an expert from the UK's National nuclear laboratory will talk about making glass nuclear waste and what fascinates them about their work a
geologist from the University of Otto will also talk about how glass is made from volcanic activity and why that's so interesting to them the second episode is all about creativity which is important for both Art and Science an artist will join a scientist from Imperial College London to discuss their creative processes and talk about how research is useful in both disciplines and then the final episode takes a deep dive into our nuclear wasting glass means for society anthropologists from
the University of Manchester will tell us about the process to involve communities and finding a location for an underground disposal facility and also about society's long-standing relationship with glass is a useful material and as art the episodes go live around the time that British silent week is celebrated the theme this year is connections and we found a lot of them we've connected with universities museums the Arts Center and we've also connected science with art and the
