In the immediate three years that preceded the accident between the cargo ship and the Francis Scott Key bridge in Baltimore, over two dozen cargo ships lost propulsion in the same area. Yikes! Nationwide, the number is approximately 424 ships longer than 600 feet. About a quarter of those incidents occurred near a port, bridge, or other infrastructure.
