Episode description

Aviwe Funani is currently the Program Monitory Manager at Waves For Change (https://www.waves-for-change.org/). Waves For Change (W4C) works in communities affected by violence, poverty and conflict, where mental health services are often stigmatized and under-resourced. W4C creates partnerships with local community members. They aim to identify, train and resource mentors, who work to help open programmes that service the youth of their own home communities.

In this episode, we talk about the Aviwe's career journey, the importance of mental health during COVID-19, her personal experience with mental illness, and what Feminine Leadership means to her. Aviwe answers the ABC's of her career, and we partake in the #25Pushpsin25DaysChallenge to raise awareness for mental health.

Aviwe's work and influence extend beyond W4C as she is also the Global Shapers Community Curator for the World Economic Forum (https://www.globalshapers.org/hubs/cape-town-hub), Facebook Global Lead, a Knowledge Exchange Sessions speaker (http://www.kes.do/). Her efforts have not gone unnoticed as she has been nominated for the Most Influential People of African Descent 100 (https://mipad.org/) and the CoCreateSANL InspiringFiftySA Winner (http://cocreatesa.nl/news/inspiring-fifty-2019-winners-announced/ and https://southafrica.inspiringfifty.org/aviwe-funani).
