Episode description

Recorded on 02/15/22

In this episode, we discuss interoperability in healthcare, or how data can be more easily shared among stakeholders in healthcare. This has been a unique problem in healthcare, but over the last decade efforts have been underway to resolve that problem first through the HITECH Act and then through the 21st Century Cures Act. Most recently, as part of the Cures Act, we’ve seen the introduction of TEFCA, the Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement, which sets out a number of guiding principles for the establishment of a nationwide health information network. To discuss this topic and more, we are joined by Micky Tripathi, the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, where he leads the formulation of the federal health IT strategy and coordinates federal health IT policies, standards, programs, and investments. In addition, Eric Assaraf from Cowen’s Washington Research Group joins us as well to help host this episode.
