David discovered that Goliath was taunting the army of Israel. He chose to enter the battle for God's sake with God's power. Behind the conflicts in our lives lies a cosmic conflict. Although we can never force God to take our side, we may decide to be on his side! Message based on 1 Samuel 17:33-37, 45-47. Quotes: Dale Ralph Davis: Faith is sustained in the present and for the present as it remembers God’s provision in the past. Frances Chan: What was Jesus doing when he was 23? Jemima Kelly: W...

Israel was looking for a leader as Samuel stepped into the shadows and Saul descended deeper into his own darkness. God was working. Somewhere outside Bethlehem, keeping watch over his flocks, a young man wrote poetry and sang songs to his God. While everyone else forgot him, God saw him. The very same God sees us as we worship and work today. Message based on 1 Samuel 16:13. Quotes: John Woodhouse: A man after God’s own heart is if I can put it like this talking about the place the man has in G...

We must not presume on God’s grace. Forgiveness is not God’s job, but his gracious choice. His kindness leads us to repentance. The best time to face our sin is before we commit it. When we sin, we set in motion circumstances which we will not be able to control. Today if we seek God’s forgiveness we can find it. God can redeem us and restore us. Message based on I Samuel 15:9-31 Quotes: Duane Brooks: Charisma without character comes to cataclysm. Duane Brooks: Partial obedience is a total probl...

Our lives are cluttered with so many things we thought we wanted. When Israel asked for a king, Samuel took it personally. God reminded him that the people had not rejected Samuel but God. What if we already have everything we need in God? God knows all of our endless wants, but he provides everything we need, right on time. Message based on I Samuel 7:12-8:9, 12:20-25. Quotes: George MacDonald: Man finds it hard to get what he wants, because he does not want the best; God finds it hard to give,...

In a time when the heavens seemed silent, God found a boy who could hear his voice. When Samuel heard God and prayed, God spoke to him, so that he could speak God’s words. If we want to speak a living, lasting word for God, we must first learn to discern his voice. With all my heart, I believe God is speaking to us today. Message based on 1 Samuel 3:1-10. Quotes: Jack MacGorman: The Bible, has always been for me, a meeting place with God. Drew Humphrey: God will not put revival on sale. It will ...

When all hope seemed lost for Israel and for Hannah, she prayed and God heard. God gave her a son and gave Israel a leader. The Lord of Hosts, Yahweh Sabaoth, was working all things together for good for the ones who loved him. Samuel became a mighty man of God who led Israel well. Message based on 1 Samuel 1:9-20. Quote: Craig Brian Larson: God often fulfills his greatest purposes through our deep unfulfilled desires, when we surrender them to him in prayer. Duane Brooks: The way forward for th...

What do we Christians really have to offer the world? One man suggested that the church should just focus on charity. Our world would settle for less than the church has to offer. In Jerusalem, after Pentecost, the new followers of Jesus devoted themselves to the Apostle’s teaching, to fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to prayer. Their winsome witness won the city over. They served God and grew more like Christ for the sake of others. This is still the plan for God’s people: we give our ...

On that first Pentecost, the Spirit fell on the united disciples and filled them with power to talk about Jesus. Three thousand turned to God that day. Peter envisioned that we who are far off would also receive the promised Holy Spirit. Message based on Acts 2:1-4, 37-41. Quotes: Duane Brooks: I'm grateful that even when the church doesn't have electricity, we always have power Most Kindle Highlights: The Hunger Games: Because sometimes things happen to people and they're not equipped to deal w...

As we restore the table, we remember that the disciples stayed and prayed in Jerusalem waiting for the Spirit. Jesus’ mother was there praying with them. They did not pray to Mary but they prayed with her. They did not worship Mary but Mary worshiped her Son, Jesus with the early church. The first time we see Mary, she is praying. Now we see her praying again. Message based on Acts 1:12-26. Quotes: Alfred Lord Tennyson: More things are wrought by prayer than this world dreams of. William Law: Th...

In this sixth week of Eastertide, we return with the apostles to sit with Jesus at the table. Like our graduating seniors who are about to launch out into life, Jesus knew his time was short. As he left the table, he offered good gifts for those in our midst who are about to leave their family tables for a season. Two thousand years later, his gifts are still exactly what we all need. This message is based on Acts 1:1-11. Quotes: Shawn Shannon: Jesus ate with his disciples over and over again be...

Dr. Todd Still delivers a message on the theme of Christian hospitality. He emphasizes the importance of hospitality as a core Christian value, using biblical texts from 1 Peter 4:8-11 and Romans 12:9-12 to illustrate his points. He emphasizes that hospitality in the New Testament context often refers to the practice of befriending strangers, specifically other Christians, and providing support to traveling believers. Todd shares historical examples from the Bible, including Phoebe, Onesimus, an...

Pulpit guest Chaplain John Neesley explores what it means to truly live in the light of the Good News. He surveys the transitory nature of earthly joys, the steadfast hope offered by the gospel, and the eternal perspective that guides our journey through life's trials and triumphs. As we reflect on our own experiences—be it the fleeting euphoria of a World Series win or the everyday dings and disappointments like a scratched car—we'll contrast these with the everlasting good news of Christ’s gos...

Pastor Duane Brooks offers a stirring reminder that our worst moments don't have to define us. He speaks on the transformative power of Jesus' forgiveness, focusing on the story of Peter's denial and subsequent redemption. Drawing from John 21:15-19, Pastor Duane explores how Jesus doesn't leave us at our lowest points but instead offers a chance for a "resurrection recall," an opportunity to rise beyond our past through His grace. He emphasizes the need for accountability in our love for Jesus,...
