Episode 230 w/ Ruth Barry

Ruth Barry joined us this week and opened up about her harsh upbringing, her struggles with addiction and how it all led her to commit an assault that left her in prison.

Ruth was using her sentence to work on anger management, self improvement and recovering from her addiction before she fell pregnant while on temporary release. As an expectant mother, her treatment in prison changed dramatically, but her youngest daughter gave her the focus to continue to work on herself and to end the cycle of trauma.

Ruth knows first hand what needs to change within the Irish prison service and is now doing amazing advocacy work using her lived experience to improve conditions for the other women going through the system.
