The first several chapters give the lowdown on how to proceed before the dog even arrives home; like where to adopt, how to adopt, and who to adopt. One of the best points Gagne makes is that even those adopters whose heart may be set on a specific breed or a puppy can find what they're looking for with a little patience and some research into breed specific rescue organizations.
