The following is a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club. This He's Talking Cowboys, screening live from the Dallas Cowboys World Hours at the Star in Friscola. Here are Mickey Spagnola, Brian Brons, Rob Phillips, and Bill Jones, and welcome to Talking Cowboys inside the SWBC Mortgage Studio on a Thursday that's more like a Wednesday in terms of schedule for your Dallas Cowboys getting set for the New York New York Giants Monday night

at the Meadowlands. Were there just a couple of weeks ago for the Jets and now it's another division matchup. Rob Phillips in for Bill Jones, Mickey Spagnola, Brian brought us for the next forty five minutes. Phone number eight eight eight five five two two ninety seven if you want to join the conversation. And it's it's kind of nice, guys to get back into what is somewhat of a normal routine and start getting set for an opponent and

talking about another football team and a football game. I hope you enjoyed the break, because it's about to happen fast and furious, for the next five weeks. Did Bill Jones not know this was a Wednesday? Yeah, technically it is for the football team, not for Bill. He's got TV duties and that's okay. Yeah, that's okay. We'll get back into a routine next week, a normal routine. You're right, Brian.

Did somebody say it in the press conference just now at Jason Garrett that what five games in like twenty six days or five days? Yeah, it's not about four

and nineteen. Yeah, that's that's some of the thing. You know, the league tried to help you out a little bit with the buy the way they put it, but yeah, this is one of those those runs where we always we kind of we say, oh, it nice to have the buy, and then next thing, you know, you start to look at the schedule a little bit you say, oh, oh, that's about to happen, and you know, so, you know, I always tell those guys upstairs though it we're gonna

wake up and it's gonna be Thanksgiving. I say that about week two, Well, you're gonna wake up. It's gonna be Christmas. You know, one of those days. But I just you know, this team has gone through that a lot. You know, they understand with the way of having to plan Thanksgiving. The new twist is the game the following Thursday. That's the that's the twist that they kind of throw on this team the last couple of years to give them those two Thursday games. But you know, yeah, you've

got to be ready for it. And the coach was talking about his team's health wise is probably the best they've been since, uh since Opening Day, and that's when they faced the Giants last time. So, uh, you know, that's we've we've learned that if this team is healthy, it's a it's a pretty damn good team. When it's not healthy, that they tend to have some struggles. So see how it goes. You know, it's almost like they make the by punitive. It's like you get a bye

and they give you a Monday night game. Sure, and now you're scrap hambling to get ready for the next Sunday, right because you got sent to New York for a night game, right right, And now it's a short week to start with. Now, if you were going to Chicago, right all right, you get back in Kansas City, you'll be back by you know, one in the morning, or you're gonna get home at four thirty in the morning. No one gets to bed to five five thirty, and then you got to play again on Sunday and then

night so yeah, and then it continued. It's a night game. But as from a preparations stamp, right, those extra four hours don't do you any good. Uh. And then you're on the road the next two games, right right, And then you got to play on a short week on Thanksgiving, but you're going to New England on Sunday, so by time you get back from that, you know, monday's a wash. Yeah. So yeah, as Brian said, you know when you hit the street, it's gonna be after Thanksgiving. Yeah, and that's

a lot of games to play for that stretch. Three out of four on the road, but four in nineteen days when it should be twenty eight days parking lot Moon. Well, that part hasn't worked out well because they'll you know, look at their record. They're one and two on the

road this year. Yeah. So I will say this, We've covered this team when they've had to buy in like week three, and if you're gonna have a buy, it needs to be right when they had it, because you know, your team generally is probably in better shape after three games or two games than it is right now healthwise. Yeah, I think you made a great point there, Rob With the health. I think that's the most important thing. If you can get halfway through the season and have your

health reasonably there, which they do. They have their health there, and so you know, if you can, you just need to be You're probably gonna need to be. Like we were talking about six or three or better, these next nine. You can't give away any games. You can't have anything bad happen, you can't have self inflicted problems. You need to go out and win the games you're supposed to win. Maybe have to steal the game down the road somewhere.

But yeah, I mean this this division is for the take and for you know, the Cowboys and the Eagles the way it is because if you win that Jets game, Mickey was talking about it. You win that Jets game, you know you're looking at a two game. You know you're looking probably at a two game lead, and that's you know, now, it's it's uh, it's pretty much it's for whoever can find a way to play the best

these next nine games. So it looks like from a health standpoint, the majority of those guys should be back in practice. Yeah. Uh, they keep mentioning Anthony Brown. I don't think he's ready for this week. Uh. Layton Vanderish was another guy he mentioned that would be more limited in the other guys at the next thing or against Philly. Yeah, it was a neck injury, and I don't know if it you know, it started as a stinger and now it's just a neck injury. Uh, So that's concerning, Uh

the other guys. I think some of those other guys might be limited, but not as limited that played through stuff. And then we talked yesterday about the Cam Fleming thing, which to me is somewhat problematic just from a number standpoint at your tackle position, and there's not like, you know, you're gonna have to start playing guards at tackles if things get even worse. It's true, and he's going to be gone for a couple of weeks. So that's that's significant.

You know, too bad that somebody didn't have an excess of offensive tackles out there. You could have made a trade for you know, a sixth or a seventh and said, okay, I need this guy or a poach somebody's but again, that's a guy that hasn't played, So it's that any better than Brandon Night right now. See. And then you get guys like Mitch Hyatt who's been on the practice squad the whole year. But Mitch Hyatt is kind of like Tristan Hill, you know, not ready to play physically,

maybe not enough, Yeah, exactly. So I think that to me, it's you know, you look at the you like Mickey was talking about a trade or a possibility of a poach, and you know, and that's that's a good opportunity to do that because you got some of these guys that have been on practice squads for six, seven, eight weeks now and they're thinking, Okay, the season's going away, I need to get on a roster. I need to get

an accrude season here. How do I do it? So you can if you can identify somebody, it's a little bit easier now to poach a guy, especially if you're a team that's kind of in the mix. If you're a team that's poaching at the end of the year, those guys kind of don't want to move. They get happy. They're like, like you trying to poach somebody from a playoff team, a New Orleans, a New England, a Kansas City that those teams, those guys are like, nah, I'm

just gonna stick this one out. Feel like I can, you know, get playoff money, feel like I can get maybe a ring, you know. So it's a little bit more difficult to poach guys when you get down to the end. You got to kind of do it in the middle, when when they're interested in trying to get that accrude season and the Cowboys just got poached yesterday Mike Jackson their Murky corner, I think fifth round draft pick. Yes,

mine in Miami Detroit Lions. Now, walk me through how that works because the poaching part, if you want to call it that, because players don't always necessarily give the team that is there with at the moment on the practice wat an opportunity. If it's an opportunity to go play on a fifty three man roster, they'll just take it. Right. Any agent that's listening to us, and there's some agents that listen to our show, and we appreciate you guys. You know, an agent worth this salt. We'll tell the

team what's going on. We'll tell you. If you have a relationship with the team, you'll tell them, hey, listen, we have an opportunity to go to Detroit Lions. Jason Garrett talked about it today. If he had a practice assume if he had a spot, then they would have. You know, they liked Jackson, they would have probably put him on the active fifty three. They don't have the spot. So what you have to do then is as an agent, you give the team warning, Hey, we're gonna go for

this fifty three? Would you have a spot for him? Can you do something for him? And the team? Will you just say no, we can't do anything, but we can make it financially worth your while. And sometimes guys say, yeah, that's good enough for me extra money, Fine, we'll do that, or he'll say, no, we need to we need to go on and try and get the secrued season and get this started. So, um, you know, they didn't have a spot for him, tried to make some financial arrangements,

didn't work out there. So he's going to be a Detroit and I'll see him here in a couple of weeks. Yeah, And the difference is making seven thousand dollars a week and then making twenty thousand dollars a week. Yeah, if you're at a minimum. Yeah, And Brian's right, and it sounded like, you know, it's like what they did with Jarwin right the two years ago and they Philadelphia came, they were trying to poach him, and they was like,

I'm sure they paid him a little bit more. Now, when you sign a guy off the practice squad, you got to keep him for three weeks. We got to

pay him for three weeks. Three weeks, which made me think, what happens when you approach a guy with two games to go in the season, you still have to pay them three weeks to pay Yeah, it doesn't roll over till yeah, next you gotta keep him, gotta keep no, I think I think you have to pay him, right, You have to pay him, yeah, even though you only get him for two games, right, So you better really want them. Some teams are really Some teams could be

pretty sneaky the way they do it. And you know, if you have an agent that doesn't work with you. But as an agent, you always want to have relationships with all thirty two teams. You don't want to be a guy that's moving guys around, and you know he he pulled a Jim Er say and moved him. Moved his moved the team in the middle of the night, you know, from Baltimore to Indianapolis. Yeah, you know, you don't want to be that guy. It's his dad, it moved to team, right, not Jim. Who's his dad's name,

Art Bill or say Jim, or say it's him. It was Junior. Yeah, there's two of them. Junior's junior, right, But yeah, yeah, And you know, and so the Cowboys, if they were probably weren't in the injury situation. They were like on the offensive line, you could have said, Okay, I'm gonna put one of these guys down. I don't want to lose this guy, right, I can't afford to do that because of the injuries. They could they could

have made a decision on Anthony Brown. You know what if Anthony Brown was not going along well enough and they said, you know what, we'll just move on from Anthony. You know. And also Anthony Brown is doesn't have a contract next year too, so it might be a situation where they look back and they say, oh, we should have maybe, but they would have to put him on injured reserve right, right, So that wouldn't for the spot, yeah, which would be for the season because well just about right, Yeah,

I mean weeks are left in the season. It's an eight thing, so yeah, for sure, And they don't feel like that's the case with him, although it doesn't sound like he's yeah, yeah, it's coaching. Coaching is good if you know, if you're a bad team and you kind of see it through the first eight weeks of the season, just start I mean, we're not gonna go anywhere. Got's to start just dumping guys and picking up guys. I mean, that's if you're a bad team, try and think about

your roster in two thou twenty. But in this case, having a having a tackle that's potentially better than Cam Fleming is inviting to me and inviting to Mickey, I'm sure. But they've gave him a two year deal now. The bye week surely helped Tyrn Smith and Lyle Collins, they did play against Philly, finished the game despite them being banged up. What are your thoughts on what you guys have seen from Brandon Knight in the event at some point in the next couple of weeks he might need

to come in for snaps. M. Look, it wasn't as bad two games, I think, not as bad as I thought it was gonna be. Yeah, it wasn't great, right, Uh, probably not ready for this, But you know what, what other recourse do you have at this point? Um? I think you have to trust Mark Colombo in those guys like him. Yeah, Mark likes him so. And I said this the other day. I mean they had an opportunity to when they were trying to get I think Cedric Wilson up week one from the practice squad because of

other injuries. That was a guy I mean, they had a surplus at lyneman, and they said no, because what you guys are talking about, if you've got a good one, it's such a premium spot. They're hard to find. They

kept him around, you know. I was told that while it wasn't perfect, maybe the biggest benefit of him playing what did he play like a quarter and a half against the Packers then he played the game that he actually gained a little confidence in himself, like he was one of these guys that knew that he was the fifty third guy on the roster and kind of acted that way, right, And then all of a sudden. He I was told he started to feel like he was a part of something and that he actually played better

than he had been playing because they were depending on him. So, you know, who knows what a guy like that, maybe the light comes on. I mean, they liked him enough to keep him in the first place, right, I never thought, you know, just watch him in training camp. He struggled, He struggled a lot. Yeah, but they saw something in him to build on it. So you know, sometimes see, yeah, sometimes you're if you you're able to make all the practices.

Remember how dinged up and banged up they got. You know, think about if they if if in fact that they would have been able, you know, the guard that they drafted at a Penn State. You know, if if he would have not been hurt, you know, that would have been you know that that would have been one less spot right there, because there there was Taco. We're going to keep him, you know, we're gonna keep him on the fifty three. And it just didn't work out that way.

That could have very well been Night's spot. Sure, you know, Night would have you know, if he wouldn't have practiced every single day, moved over to guard like the last couple of weeks of training camp to kind of help him out through a bad situation. You know, maybe he doesn't, maybe he's not here, Maybe we're not talking about him. Maybe we're talking about him on the practice squad as a guy that you could potentially bring up and we wouldn't know anything about him other than what we've seen

in training camp. And Mickey's not wrong. Mickey's not wrong. There was nothing in training camp that was spectacular. Mark Colombo was taken a taken a look at his practice that he's had, the practices he's had in his mind, but also looking at what he did at Indiana, you know, he's like, Ah, this guy's got a little toughness about him. He's got a little nastiness to him. He's got a we need to keep him around kind of guy. You know.

And if Connor McGovern would have not, you know, hurt or been hurt the whole training camp, you know, we might not be talking about Brandon Night. What impressed me was the Packer game just getting thrown in and it was cleared it was pass pro pass pro, pass pro because they were been catchup mode in that game. Right um. Speaking of McGovern, and Noah Brown and sound like they're ready to practice. Ye, start that clock wrong with Noah Brown's is need that bad? I mean it injury? Right? Yeah?

Well he had hits surgery. Remember he had it scoped. But but it was But was it a scope or was it a full blown we're out for eight to ten months kind of a thing. It's it's kind of turning into that. Well or here's the other thing. So say you start him practicing, right, you have to make a decision, and he's ready to play. Yeah, you got three weeks were cutting? Well, yeah, you gotta have to make a room for him. It's a three week window right now, it's six. Well, it's it's it's three and

then two, yeah, or two and then three. I can't it's one of those. Yeah, And so you gotta cut somebody or you're gonna leave him on IR Now you can do that too. See this is where this is where I'll start start thinking about guys like, Okay, Devin Smith, you did a great job with I'm okay keeping him around. Cedric Wilson. You drafted him obviously you like him on special teams and what he can do. He could play all three spots you'd like him for that. Now I'm

looking at it again, Tavon Austin. What is Tavon Austin doing for me? Is Tavon Austin doing enough? Is Tavon Austin? Can you supplement somebody else for Tavon Austin snaps, who is probably not going to be here again next year? Okay? So what does Noah Brown give me that you don't have right now? And don't tell me he can block, you can block? Give me something else? Could he? Could he better than Devin Smith going downfield? I'm not trying

to cut Devin Smith. I I gotta have to cut somebody. Yeah, That's why I'm trying to move on from from Tavon Austin, is what I'm trying to do. If if if Tavon Austin is just going to be this guy that we're seeing now, I mean I'm not I'm not know about you guys. There's been nothing spectacular about Taylor. Now. Maybe Tavon Austin will bring a punt back or something like that. Maybe he'll do something to make my mind change. But

I'm looking to these players that don't have contracts next year. Yeah, but you still have rights to Noah Brown. You're not going to lose him, No, but I want him to play. That's what I'm trying to figure out. Us don't know where he fits in. Yeah, I mean at least TV talking to the wrong guy here. Tavon gives you a dimension that no one else does right now. I don't know how well they've used it or how well he's utilized his dimension, but they try to do stuff with him.

He's an insurance policy for Cobb too. Who Well, he's the guy, he's the punt returner. Yeah, he's the punt returner basically, and they'll put him in there for jet sweep here or there. Cedric plays the slot and he plays punt rich or we set the the preseason. He can return punts as well. See, I'm just to me that if there's something really really wrong with him, then just keep him on IR the whole year. That's fine. Mickey's right, you got his rights work for next year.

But if there's something he could come in and help you with. Now, if you like the way that and Mickey was telling about the blocking stuff, if you like the blocking stuff, if you like special team stuff, if you maybe like an occasional play a big body guy down the field, you know, I mean to me, those are all there are things. They kind of use him as a big tight end, you know, if you have a big tight end. Yeah right, well you do, you do. But are they using the big tight ends? Well enough,

that's another thing. Well, the one that can get down the field. Yeah, he needs to have a big game this game Giants. He tends to play well against the Giants, so hopefully he'll eighty nine. Yeah, yeah he does. Yeah, hopefully, So something about that building. Okay, five two two nine seven is the number if you want to join the conversation. We're going to get into the New York Giants and this match up Monday. Finally some football next, I'm talking Cowboys.

All right, let's join the phone lines today. Jim from Pasadena start us off. You're up first on Talking Cowboys. Hey, good morning, guys. Please forgive me if I comment on something you've been talking about. I'm not watching right now. I just I'm calling from work. Yeah, I'll watch tape

of Detroit. My gosh, this is a different Giants team. They have not given up. I noticed the using Barkley out of the backfield on pass routes, and he's running great routes, wheel routes, steam routes, and he's fast enough to get up sealed from the backfield, and that scares me. This guy is you know, what kind of defensive package do you want to put in? Because it doesn't tip their hat because the kid can play in the backfield and still run great routes. It scares me that the

offensive line looks better. You know, I thought Nate Salter Solder I was an eye on him, but he had a great Detroit game except for one play. Sure, so what are your thoughts on that? What do you think This Giants team scares me right now? I think they're pretty darn good. State has really elevated them as well. So anyway, your thoughts, Thanks guys, thanks for taking my call. Thanks Jim, you let us write to where we were going.

The Giants are in the National Football League, right, Oh, they pay their players too, And was not Barkley their leading receiver last year? He was, so it's not a surprise, no, right, they saw it last year, sure did so. Yeah, But I think he makes a point. I think you mentioned Golden Tate Brian wrote you wrote about him. Yeah, I mean he's they didn't have him the first time around him, and this is a guy that's given this defense fits

on another team. Yeah, but what are you seeing from their offense now with Daniel Jones at quarterback and just some of the weapons they've got in including Barkley of course. Yeah, the ball, the ball clearly is going down the field more it's accurately going down the field. And they've got a couple of guys. You mentioned Golden Tate. You also Darius Slayton out of Auburn is another player rookie. Usually the learning curve for wide receivers, rookie wide receivers is

pretty steep. This kid's done a pretty good job of coming in. They've thrown him some fifty fifty balls. He had two touchdowns against the Lions last week. He's a six one guy plays much taller than that. You watch him go up and get the balls. A great athlete. When he was at Auburn, you could see they throw him the ball short and he's like a a good run after the catch guy. There's you know, those are the problems you have to worry about with him, the speed,

the quickness and stuff like that. He's got. Daniel Jones has found him. He's found Taid. They're gonna use Evan Ingram. He's right about the back. Jim's right about the back coming out of the backfield. The problem that the Giants have had is when they don't pick up blitzes, when they don't block well up front, the quarterback can turn the ball over instantly. He has problems with awareness in

the pocket. He has problems protecting the football in the pocket, and when teams really come after him, you can create turnovers with him down. And that's why And yeah, I think that I think that's why. I think that's why maybe DeMarcus Lawrence was saying little Manning he kind of described Daniel Jones is Little Manning because we've seen that from the past and with the Giants. If you hit Eli Manning and you can affect him in the pocket, he will turn the ball over. And that's the biggest

problem with Daniel Jones right now. And they're a better team with him playing quarterback, and they're they're outstanding a running team. When they can get that going, you know, the problem is I don't see the problems with the Giants being their offense. I see the problems their defense. They have done nothing. They get no pass rush and they don't defend the pass very well. So what happens is they're in a lot of games where they're close and then they can't finish a game because their defense

is bad. They're up there in the league in terms of twenty yard passes allowed, forty yard passes allowed, a lot of explosive plays, and the Cowboys had some in Week one. But to Jim's point, though, yeah, you have to worry about Barkley. You have to worry about those receivers. You have to worry about the tight end. This has got kind of that Jets game written all over it. Again. When you talk about a young quarterback with a good

group of receivers, no rule of household. I mean, Golden Tate is a household name, but he's not one of those guys, and he's bounced around a little bit now and as the latter part of his career. But you you have a quality group of receivers, you know they're capable of making plays. If you don't play well defensively, We always talk about, oh, how do you stop Barkley? You got to tackle. You had to tackle the way the Cowboys were able to beat the Giants in that

week one, they got ahead. You know, the Giants were just in trouble. They couldn't come back. They didn't have any ability to come back. And I think they've got a guy that can. They can bring him back if they have to. The problem is, though, he could also turn over the ball two or three times a game, whether it's an interception or a fumble in the pocket. So what does that mean? You better put pressure on him,

right pressure? You better blitz him. Yeah, you better not sit back with a four man rush and not get to him and let him get comfortable like they did. Sam Darnold, you want more blitzes that I want more pressure. However they have to do it. It might be in

the form of that number seventy nine. It might be that you might be you know, if you get if you get to bend it lined up the shoulder of you know, off that shoulder of Hernandez or one of those guys, or Zeitlery, one of those you know, the guard stuff, let him attack, you know, if he could be disruptive inside. That's what that's what affects Daniel Jones. You watch, he'll hold the ball, hold the ball, hold the ball, and then it's a sack fumble. That's how

that's how you got to get to him. You've got to knock him around a little bit. You could say about all quarterbacks, but especially this young quarterback. Jason Garrett said it on the Latin then walk off, he goes, it's hard being a rookie quarterback in this league. It is. And he and that's nice way of saying, this guy has some problems when people come after him. As Dak's first season, so impressive is that he didn't turn the ball over and now he had three picks. I had

a really good running game too. Yeah, a lot to lean on for sure. So so all this correct me if I'm wrong. But you know, everybody seems to be concerned on how ready Michael Bennett will be to play in this game. He should be ready to day. He's fresh, he's fresh, he hadn't played a lot. Got suspended what the game before the trade game? Yea by New England. If the sixth game he gets suspended and he played, he played Levin snaps he was for the trade. He

missed the Giants game. He messed the Giants gad the Thursday night game. So but he's been practicing. Yeah, well, you know what, how much is there to learn to come in and rush the quarter? But he's in shape, don't worry about that. And like Mickey says, he should be fresh. His snaps were going down and down. The reason why he didn't play it wasn't because of visibility. The reason is that the New England Patriots, when you watch them play and here a few weeks you study them,

they play with linebackers as rushers. That's their whole thing. They get. They get all these linebackers on the field and it's been a scheme that's been really it's created a lot of turnovers for them. And then they don't go with big, bulky guys. They go with fast linebacker, athletic guys that can attack the passer and they can afford to get away with it because they're aheading games and they're able to kind of play with the lead

a little bit and they attack you that way. And then all of a sudden, let's see if if they have to play a game where it's close tight, and they you know, teams can run or pass on them. Then do they have to adapt what they're doing exactly? And then that's the Patriots, And that's fine. You know that's what they did, right, That's why he only played like he averaged Brian, I think twenty two snaps a game. That's it. Yeah, so you know, put his hand on

the ground instead of standing up. Jalen Smith on the line of scrimmage. Question your fourth pass rushing and he's familiar with what they've done. It's similar to me, and I guess you have chard type defense in the past. You have to ask that question, I guess. But the concern seems to be fire beyond what it should be because he's been playing, he's rushed against the Giant. You go get him who's had concerns? Well, I keep hearing

that question. You got that on the fans, no, and and today in the press conference, and Tuesday in the press conference, and well, people act like they got him off the street. They didn't get him off the street. Yeah, it was like he was spanning a camp. He's been playing, he's ready to go. He's football. He's also a veteran he's been in the league eleven years and knows what to do. Yes, Robert Quinn said, you can already tell he goes about his craft very seriously. Daniel Jones just

watching him a little bit a couple of games. Is it. Is it weird for me to say, ask you a little Romo in him Romo's first year here in six Like, he'll throw it anywhere, He'll throw it into any window. He is not afraid. He's mobile, he can escape the pocket, but he is prone to making mistakes. Yeah, and that's how Tony was early on before he kind of mastered the position. Yeah, I think you have him right, Rob.

I don't think he has the elusiveness of Tony. I mean he's a little bit more of a kind of a more of an upright player, where Tony played bent knee and kind of was able to kind of duck dodge and move around a little bit. True. Yeah, that's where I think the escapability. Tony was always ability to do those types of things. But to your other points, absolutely, you know he makes some throws. That again, Eli Manning is a great part of giant history. That's what he

needs to be history, and he is. They're moving on, and this quarterback is gives him a chance there. He is not the problem these games. Their defense is the problem. And if they had a better defense, they had to you to middle the road defense, they would be right in this divisional hunt that we're talking about four and three, you know, and not being two and five. They would have won some more games because because of the way

he's been playing. All right, stake our final break eight five, two, two, nine and seven is the number more of your calls next on Talking Cowboys. It was he thought he checked what was going on at his hometown in Illinois, you know, and he kind of popped right in there and he knew he had to give a read, and he stuff the top of his head. You just pointed to your head. Huh, that's right, proud of your So what do you think I've been doing? Nice job, Mick. Yes, welcome back to Talking Cowboys. Got a few more minutes left in the show. Let's go back to the phone lines. Gents, what do you say

back to the West Coast? James from Stanford, You're up next? What's up? Hey? Um? Actually my name is Michael, but it's right, um. Couple of questions questions, Yeah, Stanford, that's right. Yeah, go ahead, Michael, Yeah, I got a couple of questions, and then a fun fact for you guys. Um. First question, Um, do you think there's another player similar to Jordan Lewis or Tony Pollard who needs to see more playing time? Okay? And my my second question is if you guys know

what's going on with Eric Berry? How come nobody's signing him? Yea? And the fun fact is, uh, my mom actually taught Cheetah Bay in kindergarten. So I'll hang up and listen. Thank you, thank you very much. He is from California, right he yes, I went to Colorado for college. But yeah, yeah, very cool, thanks Mike. Another player like Jordan Lewis. Who else was the other? The second that's a good question. Well, they kind of played Pollard more last week, right, they did,

but it's easier when they got a lead. You know, they've been playing from behind in that three game losing streak, and you can't start grinding with Zeke and then give Zeke a break. You know you're playing from behind. You need twenty one out there every snap. This is gonna sound bad because the guy I thought that Sean Lee played one of his best games last week. Yes, and he owes Golden Tate still, yeah, he does, Oh, Golden Tate. There's some memory right there. I'm trying to think though.

If Lee played so well, though, there's no reason to play Joe Thomas more, right, But if they liked the way Lee played, and you're worried about vander Esh's, yeah, maybe he'd takes yea or were you put him out there on the nickel if you are worried about how Jalen Smith's been playing on the nickel, because think about it. When he's been on the nickel, he's been lining up mostly as a pass rushing right right, And if you've got Michael Bennett doing that, maybe Sean Lee gets on

the field a little more of that way. So maybe maybe the guy maybe maybe one of the two linebackers, maybe more Shawn Lee, maybe more Joe Thomas. Okay, Joe Thomas play has played pretty well for this team when he's he's given the option, he's been a very valuable guy. I do the role he plays. The only other guy I can think of is um Well. I mean we've been talking about it, jar One. Yeah, I want to snap. The first person I thought of was, would anybody think

this is gonna sound terrible? Again? Did Darren Thompson do anything for you at safety that I did a nice job playing for Woods in weeks And I know it's I know it's They're not gonna take Jeff Heath off the field. I know that, but we have seen in the past. I mean, I'm asking for something. It's not gonna happen with Cavan when JJ Wilcox was here. When guys Earn snaps, they'll play a safety rotation where they're sure it's the third safety playing. Sure is he gonna

play strong safety? No? Yeah, that's but he You're right, Mickey, I mean he could play down, but it's probably not the best thing for him. Talk about they talk about left hand, right hand, that the spots are kind of interchangeable. Yeah, well, I know you gotta have a different time. See, I would I would like to argue for Donovan Wilson, but I know they won't play for They won't play Donovan Wilson over over Thompson. That's been another male bad question

for us. Why isn't Wilson playing more? Or they obviously don't trust him? Yeah, that's very well. Could. I mean, that's usually the first reason it could be after maybe sometimes can play. Yeah, yeah, I'm trying to think of any Moore. I like Ola Wally a little bit. The eye formation they use with a little bit more. It seemed like with Zeke in the last game was effective. I'm just trying to think of other names. I mean, yeah, I think Dollar's a good one. Um. Obviously Jordan Lewis

has taken advantage. He was probably going to continue. Yeah, he's gonna play more. Eric Barry they gave him a physical and I got word that that physical did not go well. So that's why Eric Barry is not signed by the Dallas Cowboys and probably by anybody anybody else. Yeah, people they're bringing him and then know the his injury history with him and stuff like that and cancer survivor

and stuff. So yeah, but he's just not he was not healthy enough when they brought him in and and that's why they they they're not going back that direction. Hopefully answers his questions. Yeah, when was that? Was it June? It was it just kind of looks yeah, it was it was you know, they were kind of taking a look at some guys, and they brought him into kind of and I don't know the exact date, but I

know it was before the season. They were trying to see where he was at and he just wasn't ready to go, And so they've they've moved on from that fair enough. Yeah, I'm trying to think of anybody else other players to play. I think we've exhausted the I like what you said about the tight end Blake Darwin. I liked what you said about that guy. You know, I don't have the snaps there. He's probably been getting about twenty five thirty snaps a game. I just wish

they'd find a way to get him the ball more though, too. Yeah, because he can make He's capable of making catches and making really good catches and getting up the field he does. I'll say this sounds cliche, but I think there is merit to it. They do have so many talented skill players on this offense. I mean, if you if you throw him a ball, you're not handing it to Zeke, or you're not throwing it to Gallop or Tony Pollard

out of the backfield. I mean, there's so many different ways they can go with this offense when they're healthy. Can I get Devin Smith on the forty six? Can Devin Smith give me more than Cedric Wilson? Well, but I know why, Yeah, Wilson's there, Yeah, why to help in the slot just in case? Yeah, Wilson if they if you ask about Wilson, they will tell you. And I'm sure you've asked Mickey about this because you talked

to a lot of folks. They will tell you he could play all three positions, Yeah, the X, the Z, and then you know, and then anything else in the slot. So that's that's why he knows all the spots, and that Devin doesn't know all the spots. Devin's a really talented player though. I mean you just remember what he did in that Washington game and just haven't really been able to kind of get to that. Maybe that was a lightning in the bottle moment for him, but he

kind of showed everybody. Yeah, he hasn't gotten the opportunity and gotten the opportunity yet anybody on that we're almost wrapped up here. Anybody on this D line and carry Hyder well, carry hiders shown up. He's playing up. I mean, he's played he'd here's an interesting thing. We got time thirty seconds. Okay, here's the list of guys, the tackle list. I've got to go all the way to number ten to find the first defensive lineman in total tackles. Yeah,

and it's DeMarcus Lawrence with fourteen. Yeah. Carry Hyder is number twelve with eleven. Yeah. To me, all your tackles are the linebackers and dbs. And then when you get to tackles for loss the leaders, it's a three. It's a four way tie with two. What does that tell you? Yeah, not getting enough. They're not getting enough. That's a great point because we've talked about this and where it's been, those big splash plays the linebackers, you know, with the

vander esh Is, the Smiths. We saw that a lot from those guys last year. This year we haven't seen it much. We'll see what happens a second half. They need some splash ones in this play. You'd better attack some gaps and get up the field against this runner. Better find a way to get to him before he gets going. You know, nine tackles for a loss after seven games. That's why Michael Bennett's a Dallas cowboy. That's right. We'll find out how he practiced on Friday, our final

show any weeks some good things. Absolutely, thanks for joining us. Thanks to Kyle for producing. We'll talk to you on Friday. I'm Talking Cowboys. This has been a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the UNAS Cowboys Football Club.
