This he is Talking Cowboys Screaming live on Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the official Dallas Cowboys as does play No. Your hosts Mickey Spagnola, Brian brought us, Taylor Stern and Rob Phillips. Hello everyone, and welcome to another edition of Talking Cowboys here in the s of your BC Mortgage studio. Of course, it's Friday, and we are finally getting back to Dallas Cowboys football this weekend as they head to San Francisco to take on the o N six forty

nine ers. So it's a big weekend ahead. It's Friday. It's Friday. Did you hear the song they were playing for practice. It's It's Friday by Sir Charles Jones. It's right there we go. This is Brian like usually when you go walk in just a painting a picture for everyone. He's like, okay, Ken, that was good. He was right on top of it. Yeah. I thought it was like a like a new song. Like I went to Jacob and said, hey, what, who's who's singing this? And he goes,

that sounds like an old song. Is anybody dancing? Uh No, I didn't see any dance. Oh, no, Friday dancing I didn't see the Friday McClane took that with him to the way. Oh, Joe Looney had been picking it up. Joe Looney was doing it with a front roll too at the end. Yeah, it's Friday. Do you know the song rob Fun Fun Fun, Yeah, I do. See. The funny thing is is you know when you guys walk in, you guys tweet a lot at Brian that you'd love to watch film with him or do something. Oh, you wouldn't.

And when you when you walk in in the morning, he's usually got his headphones on and he's typing in weirdly, this is the song that every Friday on Loop, just over and over that in thinking of you know, no Navar a bowman, which is a good thing for Sam actually benefiting the Raiders last a nice job. Yeah, he played sixty snaps by the way out of like sixty two. Why not? Why not? Well, he played the first five games of the season. Romo made a great observation new Defense.

Romo made a great observation though about the broadcast. Yes, he made a great observation about him. We're in the heads of the communications green dot, Green Dot, so that that you know, you can you know, talk to that guy. So so let that be a lesson to you when you see guys change teams and they don't play well and you go, oh it's a new system. Yeah that's bowl. Yeah, he's you can play football at a three four four three, he can play a six two, just name it. He

can play football. That's true. Coming from a former middle line that's right, South, doesn't matter. You know. If we need a mic this year, which at times we have, just just be thrown in when you interpret that stuff, especially for a quarterback. That's just coacheek for a guy's not real good. You are the your locker of this show. That's right from Chicago, Chicago. Yeah, and we have an old long snapper over here in Brian broad Us. There

we go. You play football. You play football and play football. That's all you do. And I could be a kicker maybe, I don't know. Yeah, absolutely can see that. But yeah, let's get back to Dallas Cowboys football because they are headed out on the road for a two game road series they have ahead of course, this week against San Francisco and the next week Washington, which is that like coast to coast. Well, that's what I was looking at

is a little the timing differences. It's wrong with the computer. What do you mean that spit out the games? Yeah, you gotta go left coast right coast. That's a lot of traveling. They make him play Thursday night games too. That's you've been home for a month and they make you play in London, right, And nothing wrong with London. We love that trip. They have been home for a month. I play every week in London. It's still hey, parking lot moon control what you can control? Right? Control? Would

you need to read that computer? Not having people have to go left and right for the entire two weeks. They need to do it where they gets in within one week, right, it's eight days. Yeah, they need to do it where the Cowboys aren't playing two teams that come off a Thursday night game with ten days of rest. Yeah, but they do get Washington in the second half on a Monday night game. Washington's coming off a Monday night game.

Now granted it's in Philadelphia, which is not a huge travel thing for them, but that they do actually catch a break off. That's this Monday night's right, right, Monday there? Why I thought that was the Thursday game it's the Monday game. Monday game, they'll beat yourself up. I'll go ahead do it. No, No, the Thursday night game if you want, if you want to hit yourself in the Thursday night was the game with no end, Break a jew if you want. It was pretty awesome though it

wasn't going to end. Just keep watching it. One more play, I know, one more play a lot officials, don't you, mickey. Yes, we hear a lot of coach speak around here, obviously from coach Garrett, even the coordinators sometimes. But I actually enjoyed Jack del Rio's last night. Obviously. This is a team that I was already. He dealt with an injury from Derek Carr missing a game. He's coming back. They didn't have a hot you know game Lasterek. Who did

they play again? They lost? Right? Oh? They lost three in a row, didn't they. Yeah, they've struggled. Was that a Baltimore loss? Maybe it was. It was a bad loss, yeah, Baltimore across the country loss. And so you know when he's saying pre game, oh, I take it back, it was La Chargers, that's right, Chargers. Yeah. Yeah, And so you know he's talking in pregame to Tracy Wolfson. He's saying, you know, this week, I just told him find their why, find their why they want to play football, why they

do this, why they do that? And obviously from Mars Shawn Lynch, we saw a lot of passion from the Raiders over there. Guys crazy in a good way or a bad way. Sometimes it's good. Do you think he processed that when he did that he was going to get thrown out of the game. No, No, he just reacted. He just said, I'm going out to help my guy. That's how he's lived, that's how he lives life. I believe. Yeah, he just I just does it. And I respect that. I mean, you can't do what he did, but I

respect the don't care kind of factor. Okay, J Cutler, thank yeah, well yeah, but this is don't care in a different man. It's a different kind of don't care. It's like, I'm going to take care of what I need to take care of and I don't care what the ramifications. He just kind of is who he is. Bryan. You get kicked out of a football game, ejected, actually,

and you know you're gonna get fined. Do you stay and watch the game with a little ski mask on your face, hoodie up in the stands, then ride the train home. Yeah, why not? Why not? Why not? No? I went time getting who's gonna mess with him? Yeah? Nick out of the game. But I was in the locker room when George Tague ran uh Terrell Owens and got thrown out for hitting him off the star. And then later in the game it might have been earlier

in the game, dar Derek Woodson got kicked out too. Yes, so I was in the locker room watching the game with Actually Woodson got kicked out first, and then and then George Tue got kicked out. And I'll never forget when when Derrey Woodson was come back from the shower, you know, he saw George come. He goes, what'd you get tossed for? He goes, I ran Owens and he goes, it's a bad damn time somebody got pissed off here. Yeah, that was That was Woody all you needed to know

about Dare. He goes, it's about damn time that somebody got pissed. What did he did? Was his for? Was it a hint? Like an out of bounced hit? I can't somebody out when the Great Cowboy fans will remember, but tweeted, Yeah, I was in the locker room. I was in the locker room watching the game. I went downstairs and I just remember sitting there with Woody watching the game. And then Tea came in and that was it. Fans wanted Teague in the Ring of Honor for that hit. Yeah,

level and t o enough was a enough. I ask you this real quick. The Cowboys have a player like Lynch, Yes they do. And I actually always a question. No, I'm sorry, No, this plays perfectly into it. I had pulled this clip. I listened to Marcus Lawrence yesterday in the locker room, and he gotta loved law because you know, he's new to this big star fame that he's getting on this team right now. Obviously, Mickey told you yesterday he's still leading the league in sacks, so he's he's

got a lot of eyes on him. And he was speaking to the media yesterday and can't would you play the clip please? I got a hell of a d line. They double tammy, you know, Melite Diane tif you know, Taco Band, somebody gonna get him. And then you know they got to look over there and and now they ask is mine. He's becoming quickly the best quote in the locker room without a doubt, because he speaks like just that's him. I love it. That's what I want.

But he's not goofy like Lynch. Is there a goofy? Guys, we're talking a lot about this fight is a Friday. We we've talked a lot about now. I think I think sometimes Demontre Moore is kind of on the edge. Last practice I agree with you on that, Okay, but last practice day of the week during the bye week, they're all heading out for the for the week and DeMarcus Lawrence has on SpongeBob square pants slippers. Yes he did, which that's awesome And if you have Mickey, it was

a gift from Mickey. Yeah, let's buy a bunch for everybody or something. I don't know. He's talking about slippers. I guys need to wear him on the plane to Moro of your travel suits. You got nine sacks, you wear whatever the hell you want. Yeah, pion nine. You gave him a point five. Well that was the half that he got taken away. That's fair. Yeah, the guy's not even on the team anymore, right, Yeah, that wasn't back Pia, give it back, Hiah, What are you doing

today about Pia? How about tay walked into day Guess what do you think Stephen Pie is doing today? That was our first question of the day to me said eight oh five, not a beat somewhere. Yeah, what do you think Stephen Pie is doing to day sleep? You know how you did when you left high school and you'd bequeath something to somebody to bequeath that was the word. Okay, it's the word. Gave him the half sack back. I leave half a sack from my teammate to Marcus lords. Oh,

Kent actually did find the Woodson story. Can't can't, can't, Garry, can you tell about that? Yeah, Darren Woodson was ejected from the game because the refs. He was upset that the ref didn't call penalty because the forty nine are center Jeremy Newberry super yeah, yeah, Stephane, they didn't call penalty. So he kicked the ball through his helmet and got ejected. It was not he didn't have to do game. No, he kicked the ball where through what and through his helmet?

Let me tell you what. For wood he had to deal with our mess. Oh my gosh, what a great player to have to deal with my clownery. I'll stop it. No serious, don't beat yourself up. No, I'm gonna beat myself up and let Mickey beat me up is what I'm gonna do. But no, it's just a great player like that, you know, he's just so the former basketball coach at Michigan, Bill Frieder, no before or Johnny or how far are you when you go back? Fritz Kreider, and he went to he went to Iowa State after Michigan.

That's true. That's true. So how do I know about college? But I'm at I'm at Hilton Coliseum covering Missouri game, right, and he's the story is this gonna be? He feels like he's getting jobbed and they're down at the other end of the court and there was a file that didn't get called, and Missouri's coming down on a fast break and he ran onto the court at defending fast he just stopped. He's got his Hagar suit on the game.

I'm going, oh my god, that'll get your run. And then every time his introduction at Diowa State was they'd play the opening to the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Yeah, there's Johnny there. He was stuff at the free throw. Li'd stop with the fast break, taking a charge, got the tweet, jacking on with the patches. Maybe Sean Lynch saw that one, you know, Marshawn forty years ago. Okay, let me real quick. I know you got a show to do. No, no, I mean we have a lot

to do. I know, but I'm luckily this team is fairly healthy, and we we're letting Shannon show get ahead of us now. I mean it's just kind of is a hanging with the boys kind of a segment, but a good Let me ask you this. You need one every now. Yeah, if you're if you're like a guy in the crowd, you know your guy or down in the crowd, you're sitting there and you have an open seat. Next year, you see, like Marshawn Lynch comes walking, does he like ask you for the seat or slop down?

Slop down there and sit by it. It's Oakland. The picture I saw on Twitter got fans making look, I know, a snap of a guy who like Marshawn Lynch is behind me. He's got like he's just like, yeah, he's got his he's got his like his jackets and files. He's just a random like like but he just do you think he just do you think he just searched out an open seat and just plopped down like he was black hole, you know, and he going to the black hole. That would have been even that would have

been cool. Could you find the picture and tweeted out on Talking Cowboys? They would they would have given him to keep us online. Can't you know you're at it? You've beat Cover Four's done for the week, because that would have been a perfect over four edition. Well, actually we have a We had a Marshawn Lynch, so a Manuacho plays piano and a lot of times we rag on him for it because it's very it seems like a trap for women. But I would say something else.

That's what I'll just say. Hey, kids all over the world or not. Man so many many played like a song and we put it to the Marshawn Lynch dance like attending that that was that. So Manny texted me earlier than night it was like, hey, if Marshawn starts going off like doing great post that post that video, I was like, okay for sure, like let me know and then all of a sudden, I see Marshawn Lynch injective. I was like, no, I didn't want to do it. You want, I mean we can later, yeah, but not piano.

Huh yeah yeah, come something in and tell me that fifty years ago. Yeah, no, you get married, Mickey, Yeah, I wasn't married fifty years ago. Well you can't really work a great lady, right, yeah. Single. It took a while, but for somebody to find me. Oh how lucky they could be. Yeah, you know, you never circus any man. You know, let's do get to a little piece of Cowboys. Yeah, before but we have. I mean Tyron Smith did practice, by the way, That's that's what I want to know.

And that was really the only change in the practice report for the Dallas Cowboys yesterday. Of course, Cheetos still out. It was there, though, do you think you'll travel? I'm just saying he was. He was doing the warm up stuff. He's not going to play. Brian's got the old heav ho Yeah he's not. Ye. Yeah, no, Mickey knew that. I was just making sure he saw it. Since get some baseball and Sean Lee was there and Lele Collins was there, so it was a party. Those were the

guys they were worried about the beginning of the week. Yeah. See that's the thing about it though, And I heard Mickey, did you hear it, Robay? Maybe that Smith was fine getting through practice yesterday. Yeah, no problems. Yeah, I mean it made no no substitutions or anything like. I expect him to be limited and just get some work. And yeah,

it was full. So that's always a great sign on a third Unfortunately, I think that's just kind of something they might have to continue to do throughout the season, is give him those and you know what did San Francisco do that that veteran guy and Joe Staley was one of their deal is it's either got to be treated or he's got to get rest. Uh. And I did find out you can rule out all the people worried about his disc or whatever. It's not that I

knew more structural that's good anything else. So something he made for a back with yeah maybe, and maybe it could be something like DeMarcus Lawrence. You know, I don't know the extent of DeMarcus Marcus Lawrence was a disc. Yeah, and surgery doesn't need surgery, it's just what he's got and he's three hundred and whatever twenty pounds, right, and he's pushing around a guy that's three hundred pounds and it pauses his basket quite well sometimes, Yeah, I know,

and you think about it. Okay, So when you get done playing football, you better hope you're on the Mark Colombo type diet where you're almost more fit than you wore when you were a player. Yeah, a different fit, a different fit. But Mark looks like you keep playing right now if you need it to. Some people would like that you have to put on some weight. Yeah. Yeah, Mark's done a nice job coaching those guys up, Jonathan Cooper being one of them. Yeah, why yeah, well let's

take our first break. When we come back, we will get into news. No, I was just looking at Jonathan Cooper of like, is that the guy you know? But we'll get into inactives and so much more right after this first break. We the entertainment loving people want a smartphone built for us. Everyone's got their ideas, but I just say to myself, it's what's up top that matters. Sure, you need men with the muscle and heart to get her done. But if your scouts and coaches are listening out there a word

of advice. Pick the man with the most well worn stetson. That's the one most cut out to be a cowboy. Stetson hats are handmade right here in Texas and have been on cowboys heads for over one hundred fifty years. The rest of you can visit Stetson dot com slash Cowboy to find a retailer nearest you. This is talking cowboys in football, Mickey, often the quickest plays mixed with some good old fashioned ingenuity or the key to winning. Would you agree with that? Absolutely? Kind of like Tommy

John's horizontal quick draw fly. It's got speed to it. Yeah, it's intuitive, simple and speedy. To your point, feature that under other underwear branches don't have shop exclusive Cowboys underwear at Tommy john dot com Ford slash Cowboys. If it's intuitive, why do we have to wait till twenty seventeen to find Tommy John's intuitive and engineering? A lot of big

words being used today. Yeah, I feel very uncomfortable. Que yeah, oh man back here in the SWBC Mortgage studio and we have to get to a suggestion of who we think will be the inactives for this week. And you know, of course we were talking about knock on Wood the practice report being fairly light with injuries. But you know, you think about it and Nolan Carroll is no longer here and Steven Pia has since retired, so that makes a little bit of a difference, and then you know

you're you are where you are. Let's look at it this and go ahead, Brian, real quick take you're playing you're playing light right now? Yeah, you got fifty two bodies. That's just yeah, I realized that because the roster spot. No, I wasn't telling you. I was just telling people out there that when we're thinking about we're counting down five and act, yeah, we're counting what happens when they add somebody tomorrow? Well, no, we have to think about though

if they don't. Oh, that's ok saying That's what I'm saying. Thet a mess up here, because yeah, with no pie you get a roster spot. And then obviously Nolan Carroll that was that one filled with March Liller. Yes, yeah, March the new linebacker. So so should we assume that whoever gets added it's going to be inactive? I would. Okay, So if you're assuming that it might be around fine, six,

then yeah, yeah, well let's look at it. Okay, let's say these six, and you guys will play the game like we normally do, where you guys just kind of tell me what you think and then we can go look for the So if we're if we're looking for six right now, I said five, right, sorry, yeah, Aggy, Matt six, six, I'm gonna say seven twenty thirty three, fifty two justin Durant ooh and fifty three being the March Lillard the new there you go or Lillard March

I apologize arch Lillard. So what do you guys think of that? Just as going light right now? Of course, yes, they can bring up somebody. People are really thinking it's probably gonna be Louis Neil or Richard Ashe or somebody like that. So well, yeah, I mean, did you say Durant and or she said Durant that one? That one got me? And who I said Durant? My logic between for the Durant one was really because this is now the first game you're gonna get Okay, I'm with you

on that. But you said Lillard too, Yeah, I did say Lillards. So she's got two linebackers sitting, five healthy linebackers. They've been going with eight offensive linemen recently. Yeah, I would imagine that would continue with um, you know, Tyrant's back still being sort of an issue or something at least keep an eye on Noel Brown active huh. Well, and that's what you know. If they're staying saying that, maybe it's the martial Allard guy. You know that could

be the switch there eighty five or fifty three. But those are just kind of the first ones that I was right now. And then you know, other names in the mix. They might, you know, say, okay, Byron Bell, you sit this week, or you know, maybe even Chads if they're very comfortable with Jonathan Cooper. I don't know. I don't think they're comfortable with him. With Chaz Green, I think, oh with Cooper, I think you'd like to have Chaz as a backup for both spots. Yeah, just

keep him out there. Yeah, he could be a swing guy too at tackle, if something would happen to Tyrn. I mean, if they went through all this trouble to bring in Lillard, if he's supposed to be a special teams guy, Yeah, that's what you need from a linebacker, right, Yeah, I don't know. I mean, I can see Durant going inactive again. I mean it might be it might be your this is how about this though, Mickey? What if? What if? And I see what she's trying to do here,

because she's kept she's kept Noah Brown active. Does Noah Brown be your special teams player? You're you know, you know what I'm saying because March Lillar is not going to play defensive snaps likely, right, That's what I That's kind of what I was saying. So you're thinking, okay, who can cover punts? Who can block for punt return? But let's remember if if Jalen Smith's not starting, yes, you're not getting any special team snaps. See could they

not make him active? But but Coach Garrett said he's played. Coach Garrett said he was going to play. He had a role. It was not going to be special teams. I wonder when snap count will be and Lee's not going to be splaying special teams and Hitchens will be limited on special teams. So if you have linebackers, that's only two guys. What about like, okay, then the Green Bay game, we got Cabon Frasier that was inactive. Does he come back? I think he does. Yeah, That's what

I'm saying. Does all right, So now you've got you've got eight thirty five and eighty five as your special teams guys instead of instead of fifty three. I was just trying to find a way to do not have if you didn't want to play with March blill so my philosophy and all that has been I want guys on special teams that their job is to tackle. Right wide receivers jobs not to tackle. That's a bonus. Yeah right, But is he going to play more special teams plays

than he does offensive snaps? Oh, Noah Brown? Yeah, I think, I think. I think Lillwood would play more special teams than Brown's combination of offensive snaps and special teams. There you go, I'm not a bad thought. I kind of like the idea of having an extra linebacker too, just in case you got two guys coming off injuries. Yeah, sehn, Anne Hitchins, I would like that depth just for defense in addition to special teams. That's the only change I

would say. Keep March little active over Noah Brown like the rest of it. What did they bring him in for? Well, well, it's been in the League's like a guy he's played like twenty eight games in his career. Yeah, he's not a He's not a guy that you just got off the practice squad that hadn't played at all. But at the same time, they've also wanted I mean, Noel Brown hasn't been active for every game, but they've wanted him involved. What about it? Benson Mayowa? Oh, that's a oh mickey

like that one. It's gonna be somebody over there. Well, do do you feel good about one? If it comes down to Mayo or Charlton? Who you think sitting? Oh, oh, it's gonna be it's gonna Benson Mayowa, Yeah, over the first round pick? Yeah, yeah, absolutely, yeah. Man, that's a good thought. Though. Did you have anybody in active on the D line? Well, that's what that's the other one.

You know what, I just jotted down a few numbers that I thought could be if and or, but I kind of had I kind of had it coming down to I kind of had it coming down to. I had seven twenty thirty three. You know, the fifty two one makes me think now because ye, no, that's good. And then but sixty six, that's that's Lewis Neil. I mean, they might play light this week. That might be a possibility instead of just making him an act. Did they said,

you know, we're just gonna play light this week. We're not gonna When was the last time they did that? Do you know a time? Off the top of your head? And I know that's really unfair. Was that fifty two players. Didn't they do it earlier? They did it last year. Happened before? Yeah, but no, no, she's asking recently. Oh yeah, I was just well not this year. There was one time last season, I believe, because it was so the whole thing with Romo when they were trying to get it.

They didn't activate Romo yet or something. Yeah, somebody out there remember has hands? Yeah, maybe it was they didn't activate Darren McFadden. Actually remember when he was on the IR designated return So yeah, and he will be on the inactives list this weekend, I believe, you know, and playing ride into Mickey's theory right there of him staying healthy because maybe he wouldn't have been if twenty one would have been out this week. That's weird for him.

I want to know what happens if they find It'll be interesting to see what happens if Zeke finds out he can play for the rest of the year, what happens to if it comes to backup running back. Yeah, well then then your theories tested. Yeah yeah, well it's gonna get tested probably anyway. But I still think he's got a he he's got a puncher's chance to play

the rest of the year. Well, and then you're realizing how much the Zeke stuff really did affect the entire team because Okay, so say if this he knew that he was going to play the whole season, Ezekie Elliott, then maybe McFadden would have been the backup from the start, you know, And then would that have helped you in other games where you know, you've had running game issues, you know, And so I mean, I'm just totally hindsight twenty twenty here, right, one of those running backs wouldn't

be here. That's where it would affect you. Yeah, and guys that they let go for that spot maybe would have been here, as we mentioned yesterday. So yeah, it's definitely something they've had to deal with, man, And it doesn't sound like there's gonna be this settlement that reports were suggesting. The NFL spokesman came out today, Joe Lockhart,

and said there will be no settling. Yeah, I saw that, but you know, and it's funny because I saw Dave tweeting last night about Terrence Mitchell, a cornerback who was on the Dallas Cowboys in the twenty fifteen season, and he's no longer here, but it's really lit it up for the Chiefs, so it's really not an exact science. Well, he left and then they brought him back. I did, yeah, because he went up to um Buffalo Bear. Oh no, no, I was saying. I was trying to think of the

secondary coach that's in Atlanta now, Jo Henderson. Yeah. So we're in training camp. Jerome tells me the story that they were doing something he hadn't hadn't been there but like a week, and Jerome went up to him and said, Okay, this is the technique we play on that particular formation or whatever. And Terrence Mitchell looked at him. He goes, well, coach, this is what I like to do. Yeah. And when he told me that story, I go and you know, he ain't going to be here very long. This is

what I like. It's not a collaboration. Yeah, he did get to pick that season, but he was what was he a seventh round pick? Yeah he was. He's got three picks, a forced fumble and seventy one tackles. Seventy one tackles. He's played on the Cowboys, Bears, Cowboys, Texans, and Chiefs. Now that career career. Yeah, oh I was like, this season he got seventy one pro bowled. Yeah, dang, but he's starting, he's playing. Yeah yeah, still getting beat

but yeah. Yeah. All I'm saying is that, you know, of course, Darren McFadden, I do believe that he will be the running back. There have been times coach I mean not coach Garrett, but Jerry Jones said earlier this season there would be maybe week to week decisions, and you know, you guys know that doing the pregame stuff, we've thought maybe this is the week. Yeah, this is the week. But more and more that we see it,

I think it's going to maintain him. I honestly think you're going to see more rod Smith this week, like short yardage stuff. I just feel like that when you when the first guy out, if they if they go, they say, okay, who were gonna put in? I wouldn't be surprised you see more rod Smith and not just short yardage. I think that, you know, as part of a rotational Zeke will be short yardage. Yeah, Zeke is

short yardage. There's no doubt about that. Yeah. Well, and I liked what you were saying earlier in the blueprint. You know you're talking about Keith Smith. And we talked a little bit about Keith Smith yesterday. Now I wonder, you know, Keith Smith had a bigger role last season, of course, and I wonder, and you correct me if I'm wrong, You're wrong, I'm wrong. I think he would say that anyway. James Hannah, James Hannah being back in his run blocking ability so much better than Gavin Escobars

who was here last year. Yeah, did that impact Keith Smith's role and where they kind of found him in the packages they would want to do. Mickey's already shaking his head. No, So I just wanted to throw it out there, you know how much. But they did find some traction running the football on the fourth quarter once they put him in the game. I think they're going to try and carry some of that over. It's working, Yeah,

it's working. And it's been something new for Zeke to his last couple of years because he didn't really play with a fullback in college, so it was a little bit of adjustment for him when he first got here. But Smith is good at that. He's that low center of gravity, uses his linebacker experience to kind of, like Brian says, dig guys, out of the hole. It's old school. It's it's what Jason Garrett was involved in in the nineties.

Lead fullback, power running game. They like to use that, and you know, if the two tight end things not working, go to it, use forty one. I don't know, I was just what do you think, Mick, Well, it's two different it's two different things though. I know, I'm just talking about their run game. But are you gonna tell me I'm putting the fullback in because I'm running. You don't put a sign up run? Yeah, at least with

two ten ends. Yeah, you know, you don't know if one's blocking, both blocking, one's going out, both going out. They've thrown the ball to Smith though before. Yeah, that's the thing. That's the thing about him is he can do that. He's a linebacker. He's pretty versatile. Yeah, converted linebacker. You know, if you're not having success in twelve personnel or you're struggling a little bit in twelve personnel, you know, it seems like it's it's better than trying to beat

your head against the wall. Yeah, if you want to say, oh, let's put a fullback in and see if we can do I'm saying they're gonna do it every single play, but maybe maybe it does get you going. They had a twenty five yard yard run on a crack toss and all of a sudden things kind of opened up a little bit for him running the football. So maybe maybe it's a way of Scott Lenahan getting into a personnel group that can Yeah, Okay, we're gonna run the

footall I thin. Everybody knows you're gonna run the football anyway, that's why they play eight and nine man box against you. Yeah. Yeah, No, what my point was you made reference to last year? Yeah, yeah, yeah, And I mean his role, it's just not hasn't changed that much. Maybe seem a little more ran, a lot of too tight end maybe yeah. And we're good at it even with Escobar for yeah, god knows why. Maybe

not role. Maybe role was a bad phrasing there, But I more so meant, you know, I just would Keith Smith felt more in his rhythm last year in And I think what you were saying is they found that in the fourth quarter. Yeah, bring that here. And you know, guys, we are very lucky to be around this facility. And this week it seems like there's been just so many just walk throughs and different things. And really, because what's

the big word that you've been hearing from players? And maybe this is just me, but execute, Yeah, execute has been the big word. Yeah, that's it. There's no doubt about that. I think though with like I thought you were talking about more tours, there's been a lot of stuff going around out here. I have a funny story to tell you about tour as a break right, No, I you know that fit for the air, not for

the public consumption. Maybe you know. The thing. The thing with Smith though is that you know, with Zeke you have to be a little bit careful about him because I think he's such a good one back runner, right, you know, right, And so all of a sudden, We've said this before, if Keith Smith goes in there with any hesitation that makes Zeke hesitate, you don't want Zeke to have to hesitate, especially, like Mickey says, if they're

having trouble with some blocking. If you if you get if Zeke has to make somebody miss and he's having to hesitate, that's not that's not what you want. So if you got a fullback in there, yeah, basically saying there's no zone read. Yeah, yeah, we're just going to hand the ball and then see. You know, but he's got to be if he's gonna go out there and dig linebackers out like we think he can, and he has shown in the past, don't hesitate. Go if you're

gonna make a mistake, make it full steam. Don't don't sit there and hesitate and make zecap to wait for you to make a decision. That zone read and it works, and they're really good at it. It's more of a red zone type weapon, though, isn't it. From what we've seen. They use it occasionally. It's more of a little wrinkle in their offense. But I notice it the most when it's down around the goal line. And it's been effective. Yeah, it has been. Oh it is because you know who

they're keying on. Yeah. See, And I think all the guys that ran it in college and know how to run it. I think a lot of this discussion we're having depends on how they're playing their defense and where you're having trouble. Are you having trouble blocking up the middle, are you having trouble on the edge, on the edge, a little bit of everything down Yeah, they have a little bit of everything there. Yeah, good points. Everyone having some good points. Now let's get to the callers. Mike

from Arizona on the line, y'all, what's going on. Happy Friday guys. Thank you, Michael hey Man, Hey Kage. Condolences to your dots, your old friend. You know, I play for your heart. Man. You guys took them like the wind out of myself. Talking about Keith Smith, I really liked the utilization of the fullback, you know, pulling the values and counter trades. When we did that crack toss, it opens opens things up for Zeke like kind of like what we did with the Seahawks was when Ron

literally changed the game. Where with the Michael Mary years ago, Um, what do you like when there is a third down that Keith Smith picked up? You think we could utilize them more like what you did with Moose Johnston. Thank you very much. Um Man. It's mess though that the Niners are where they're at, because this Fry, aside from anything in the East, is one of the billiest I

could go back to where my big Apex jacket. Yeah yeah, dude, like unity in the ninety all the way, you know, even the timeline with the network, you know, put in this ray. It's just kind of do you think it's last? It's last? Or are you guys all ing on it? Guys? Thank you, guys, thank you, thank you, thank you. Shop Nike though a new era. So now we've Cowboy Pro Shop, We've converted, we've converted the nineties to old school. You're old. There,

there's breaking news. I'm the same way, very old. I'm experienced, better end of the league. Unique player that Daryl Johnston, Oh yeah, fullback, no doubt. Are you doing the game this weekend? I don't know who's doing the game. Moves you get the whose game argue? I got it right, you got it right there, there you go. But yeah, I think a unique player. You know, when you start talking about Daryl Johnson's ability of the path, you know

what he meant to Emmitt Smith paving the way? Uh yeah, you know, similar guy, when you talk about catching the football, security, all that stuff. Reliability, I think Keith Smith's a long way from Moose Johnson's reliability there. But you know, the idea of using a battering a ram downhill as a runner I think is the right idea. But it is interesting how he got into this role, you know, Keith. Yeah, I mean he was cut a million times. He's been

on and off the roster. Finished this fight video was fantastic of his, and he got on the practice squad one of the times. And we all know you've got to have different roles, you got to play different positions, simulate different spots. And they just noticed how good he was catching the ball, you know, being an offensive fake player, and wow, maybe we could find a role for this. This is a homecoming for him this weekend. He went

to Santaz State College. Yeah, very nice. But if you go back to the nineties, and even though they had DJ, they did run a lot of too tight end offense, right, and they were always looking for that second tight end because you remember when they brought in Novocheck, right, he

was not the hand. He wasn't. But they also made a move and I can't remember if it was free agency or a trade they traded or they acquired rob a Wall, and they thought they were going to have two tight ends on each end, one on each end and go down the field. And a Wall had back problems and never uh and never worked out Roberts and then uh uh, Alfred Alfredo Roberts. Yeah, it was the next one. Yeah. And then there was another guy. I could see him, but I forgot his name drafted catching

It was a free agent. They picked him up. He ended up catching a touchdown pass. It's about tight ends in the in the Yeah, right, it was in the It was in those it was in one of those first two Super Bowls. He know about tight ends or fullback tight end. Jornson was farther down. Yeahlly Jackie would have dropped it right, as Starbuck tells you. He threw

the ball behind him as his fault. You know, it's going back to the the I could go back to you talk about the rivalry, go all back to the seventies, you know with this when when they used to play like it old keys are stage stadium and stuff like that. I mean they and that they had some games in early seventies, playoff games that were legendar you talk about comebacks. That's kind of where Roger Staubach got his name. Really if you look at some of the games that they

played against the forty nine, seventy and seventy one. Yeah, and I had to beat him. Yeah, And I I'm sitting there thinking Tony Fritz with an on site kick. He kicks it behind, you know, he kind of pops it behind his foot and your boom ball. They get it. And so yeah, it's been a it's a historic rivalry.

And you know, I know it's Dwight Clark day. I would have met Dwight Clark you know, because in nineteen eighty one when he caught that pass, I was a big, big time Cowboy fan, and I went up told him. I said, hey, you know I cried that day you caught that football. And he goes, oh, you know, Dwight, I mean Joe was trying to throw it away, and you know, he kind of was telling me the story about it, and I said, oh, you know, hey, you know,

great play. And he so every time he would see me at a meeting or league meeting in comment, he goes, hey, Brian, I caught that ball. You know, he would find me about it, and I'm like, yeah, thanks. And then I remember being real quick if I could take we were playing the I was working working with the Packers and I got invited to sit at the NFC Championship game and Alvin Harper play and I had to sit there and listen to all the San Francisco fans. I told

nobody was from Dallas. Harper caught, Harper caught the ball, and the whole game. I'm listening to piece people to tell me how bad it people from Dallas are the whole game. And when he caught that ball, I'm screaming at the top of my lungs in this box. Run Run, run, run, and then John Dorsey, who was with he goes, I guess it's time for us to leave. I mean everyone those San Francisco fans turned to me and like John's like,

we gotta get out of here. And I'm like these sobs all game long, we're telling me what it was, you know, people from Dallas what they were all pretty haughty. Yeah, they're very haughty. That's a very nice word. I have another word. I have another word to use for him, but anyway, I won't. I'm sorry. I don't mean to. I love them. Mickey's minute. That is that a compound

word compounds? Yeah, Well, we'll have more for you guys, Rob's poll being one of them, and so much more after our final break here in the SWBC Mortage studio. No you didn't know? No, don't do you not? Do you not? Stay on Twitter?

Washington State? Are we are we in the silent mode? Hurt microphone is? I think? Yeah, it's not you? You lost me? Yeah, there you go. I'm so confused by what we're doing. It's a Friday here, Yeah, it is a Friday. But union see what he did. Yeah, but he's trying to get his money back tech right, Yeah, I won at Texas Tech in two thousand and nine. Mike Leach, we're talking about Yeah, Mike weas I'm sorry we left that part out yes, yes, I won at Texas Tech in two thousand and nine and they didn't

pay me. And he's got a sign draped over his neck on a string and it says hashtag pay me. He's gone on a one man campaign to try and get well. He was on the radio here last last week with the guys on the Fan. Yeah, and and half the interview was about pay See if you guys can get over there to lubb it and get them to pay me. They owe me money. He's on a campaign for this. He got fired in two and a half million dollars. He's suing them and then you know

it hasn't gone anywhere yet. He's taken a public Yeah, it's a campaign. You know yesterday were everybody's got a hashtech rights hashtag. That girl Now that was an off a conversations. That means sorry, I forgot our conversation. No yesterday. And I don't want to get into this really because

I do want to get into Rob's pool. But you know, we're talking about all the NFL has become such a judicial system, and it is my job, and social media has a lot of benefits, but part of it, I do believe is because now these companies and organizations, and it's really not just the NFL. We're seeing it happen in Hollywood right now with different things. A lot of people are being held more accountable to things with social media,

you know, Mike Leach is a perfect example. You know, you get out there and you start getting people to rally behind you. Suddenly you have a cause. Well look what the look no further than JJ Watt, Absolutely great point. Yeah, that was a that was a initial just say, hey, I'm trying to I'm trying to help something, and then that thing, through his social media, turned into a major, major humanitarian effort on his part. You say, I'm trying

to buffle myself. It's called crowdsourcing, Mick. Crowdsourcing. Yes, that's the power of social media. I'll get you a little muzzle, I know, because I've got to comment and I'm an refraining. That's nice to you. You're maturing, No I'm not. You're a gun and becoming more sensible, sensible, whatever it is. I appreciate it. But Rob, let's get to your poll and I yes, let's get to them. Rob. Hey, let's get to it, all right, vote Mickey, because I did,

I looked for it and couldn't find it. You go to the food What the heck, let's say, what the hell? I went to his site and it wasn't on there. Yes, I made vote to help. Just outed yourself that you've never voted for a single poll. No, every every freaking time it's on at Talking Cow Rob is about to lose it, doesn't lose it. I'm looking for it in my in my little mentions and in yours. Is. Oh,

you need to send it. You've been outed, but anyway I have at Okay, we'll get your right in vote ready, which all pro is most valuable to the Cowboys offense or defense? Sean Lee or Tyron Smith? Simple? There's only two choices which all said all pro. Yeah, two choices because these are two guys that have dealt with the two all pros. Wow, isn't that right? That's a great question, though, I thought, Well, I guess Zeke made it. Last year. You got Zeke over Dak. Dak didn't make all pact, didn't,

but Zeke made it. You got three all pros on the old line. I'm speaking specifically two guys that have been dealing with injuries lately. Yeah, how much do they do? They mean more to their respective group. I'm Lee, that's the one I voted for. And I say that because you had two games without Tyron last year, even one that was against the forty nine one. Thank you. Look at this run dance and since this that is the basis of my column. That's it's generating right now? That

a Friday column. Yeh, half tighline. It's Sean Lee. Right. What's the title? I haven't got there yet, but I finished it is the Yeah, we're goading your headline? No, I'll just put John Lee wins pole. And here's why. What do you think that's not bad? People? Click on that? Brian who you got? I hate playing without a left tackle, I know, right, But I'm also sick of them running the ball for one hundred and sixty four yards down my throat. Carlos Hide could do that in this game. Yeah.

They did win a couple of games without tiring last year. Yeah, I know they went, they went, what are you trying to influence me? Here? I went and delving four without Shawn Lee in twenty fourteen, but they had Rolando McClean. That's a true boy. I wish I could go row Row was there. I'm gonna go fish with him him one time. Rolando are all as McClean, always something, always very good. Who was that training campus? Is it? When he was changing shirts in front of everybody, putting on

the forward shirt, taking off the Miller light? When what a great football player that I ever us? That? That's a good that is a that's a fair point. Okay, you've asked me, you asked me a question. We get to this point. I'm I'm four quarter offense right now. Yeah, you're fine. I'll take I'll play without, I'll play with without my left tackle. Go ahead, who do you got? I'll say, because of the youth on this defense, Sean

Lee is is like a stabilizing influence. At least there's some veteran guys on the O line that could try to pick up the slack without tiring. Not discounting what he means, but I'd say Shaun Lee as well. Yeah, but sixty six percent San Lee. Yeah, I'm gonna add that. That's a paragraph. Okay, six Yeah. Pretty fun doing these poles? Yeah, I can right, okay, especially when I can find them. But see, yeah, you need to work a little harder. That Talking Cowboys. Do you not put him on your

your little deal? Do you not follow talking cogollow show? I follow you all? That's bad all the show too? Oh okay, yeah, help, you're a host, retweeted every once in a while, he might he did the tweeted this morning, we might beat Channon them show. I let everybody know we were here. I've got other things to do than tweet every half hour about the show. Oh you're on the show? Does no? Yeah? He just tweets out the cowboy account. Hey, I love this show. It's getting better. Guys,

you know we're really mid season form now. Basically they were two and three any of this week. You guys had me kind of down in the dumps because we didn't know what was gonna go on. Zeke and guys were like, and it's not going to be an easy game. I still don't. I don't think it's to be an

easy game. I don't. I still don't think it is. No, I really think this is A quarterback change might be what they needed to give him some yes, something different, some kind of juice, give a chance to win, especially at at an important position. We see what a young quarterback did for this team last year. I don't know. I think if the Cowboys you said, execute, if they do what they know they can do, they ought to

win this game, no question. But hey, again, you can't play around with the team that's lost five games in a row by thirteen total points. This is going to be the turning point of the season. Whoa man might go ahead and figure out which way. Oh that's true. I mean you're coming off a bye week right now. You could either go to five hundred or be two games down. It's a big it's a big weekend for them. Yeah. I mean you look at where they are right now

and just trying to think ahead. If you want to win ten games, eight of your next eleven, you ought to win. You can't have another loss to a winless football team with the teams they have coming up next. Yeah, that's absolutely true. Yeah, and they are good on the road, and you know, I know, I think it was either week one or week two. There was a Twitter image that was circulating of the forty nine ers stadium just being pretty much blank. It will not be that this weekend.

I think the Cowboys be a lot of Cowboys. Yeah, I think, yeah, that's almost going to fill a little home. Yeah, they can boo to White Clark. What was it last year's second game of this season? Yeah, fourth, fourth, Yeah, it was early. It was after the Bears game, before the Band and they were already kind of bad. I don't know if they were bad yet. There was a lot of bad injuries. There was a lot of Cowboy

fans there. Yeah, I just think there'll be a lot of Cowboy fans there again, you know, but you got a second Bay Area game too, you got the Raiders later in the year, So good opportunity. If you're a Cowboy fan, you're listening, go out there. And I'm sure the tickets are outrageous for forty nine games, you know, I'm sure. Yeah, that's never easy to they are tony

up and do that. But if you want to see your team are tweeted about that this week, you know what, there might be a lot of people selling their tickets that would have come from north north of San Francisco with all the fires and stuff. And that's the going that's their fans. Terrible deal going on, and that's what their training camp is and now right and na oh no, that's I'm sorry, that's the Raiders my Raiders are not San Francisco, but still it's the you know, part of

their fan base for them. Yes, I thought that was really he's helping a lot of people who were impacted by this, and you know, we talked a lot of speak about different things. Let's say one player on this team who's doing good, Cavon Frasier. He's currently hand you know, doing something with his foundation that's going to give a breast cancer survivor or somebody's battling breast cancer. I'm sorry if they get this wrong. A full spat day, a

few of them. Maybe. Yeah, he's a great, great guy in the community, and so you know it's nice to highlight those things. Chris Long, what he's doing right, JPP, what he did work dance last week. You know, you do see more good sometimes than bad. Smith. He Smith's out in the community getting stuff done too. He Smith is great. Yeah, that's what's worse. Fire damage or water damage. Both. Fire. Maybe you're not getting it back on fire, no saving.

Yeah you're not getting back. But at least if you have fire damage, you know you got to start over water. You sit there and struggle with right to try to Yeah, we're seeing the furbish and that's really hard. That's just because you see your stuff. Yeah, all the worst not to see it. Yeah, that's just all. I don't know. I just keep reading that stuff and it's like it's it's it's like just drained you. It does, Yeah, it does,

it does. That's why you know, when Brian was talking yesterday about sports being the escape, you know, sometimes we forget how lucky we are. Then what we get to talk about all day and you know, debate, discuss whatever we want to call it is really just entertainment and it should be fun for everyone. When you guys are listening to us, we want you to laugh along with us. Well, if you didn't laugh today, yeah, I'm sorry. I'm sorry. We try vote for you, bequeathing you guys, right right,

I'm bequeathing this show to everybody. But sweet, but are we wrong thinking it's going to be a close game. I'm just just coming. I know we're talking a lot of negatives. Could do a rank I'm rub yeah real quick. And we're not wrong, Brian, because sometimes this team, you know, Dave was talking about it earlier, They can play a smart football game. I think they have been better than certain teams they've already played in loss too. Yeah, but

they just do dumb things. It's a six point spread. Yeah, I think this again. I think the forty nine ers ask some juice with a new quarterback. That's it's something different to get him out of the rut they're in. But again I go back, if Cowboys can run the ball, and if Sean Lee stabilizes things defensively, they ought to win this football game. Atta should Okay, So you're going with delaw Mack. Yeah, yeah, I'm not changing. It's got a good matchup too. That's a good matchup, you know

what I mean. He should be able to You know, Trent Brown, I told you about him. He's somebody wants to buy him away from me. No Zeke Gilliot got Zeke Bran. Yeah, you know what, give me, give me. I said this on the blueprint. Jordan Lewis given the Jordan Lewis for some you know, some some big play that Rob's asking for, some turnovers. Go get you in, Jordan Lewis, Go find it, Go get you on and find a way to get this team in some good field position. I'd like to see. Hey, you know the Cowboys.

Another little stat, little nugget stat. One of the best teams in the league on the road when it on the road, when it comes to fuel position. So keep an eye on that. The average starting field position like thirty three yards a spot. Now, I've only known them, but they played what one game on the road. That was the Arizona game? Am I right about that? So yeah, keep keeping a keep an eye on that that maybe

they can, you know, get some field position. Rob was talking about too, that the forty nine or punter inside the twenty. But maybe you can get some Maybe you get some stuff going a little bit with your little switzer there and see if you can change this game a little bit in your way. He doesn't have a touchback this year. He's done a nice job. So yeah, we'll see about two of the best in the league. Yeah, Chris Jones hadn't been bad either. I'll go with David Irving.

Take I like it, do you know? Yep? You'd better not take plays away from my guy. Yeah, okay, what are you gonna do? Attack him in the press and I have to go speak to him. I'm gonna have a very firmly worded conversation with him, what's your duke's up, Rob? Yeah? All right, guys, Well, thank you so much for tuning in to everything this week. Now, stay tuned for a message from AT and T and we'll be back on Monday to discuss a win. That's what I'm calling from

the Cowboys on Sunday. Hi, I'm Taylor Stern Inside the AT and Media Center. Dak Prescott had the bye weekend, but he stayed around Dallas, Texas supporting another team. He watched on as the Stars beat the Avalanche in a personalized jersey, and he even took to his Instagram to share a picture of his time there. So it was very special, very neat to see him supporting other guys out there in the professional sports world. Stay tuned to

everything inside the AT and Media Center. This has been a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
