Cowboys, Rob Phillips, Brian Broadus, Mickey Spagnola inside the SWBC Morgane Studio. Cowboys lose to the Green Bay Packers twenty four at AT and T Stadium. Still tied, now tied for the NFC East lead after five games at three and two, but the second straight loss for this team, first at New Orleans, now Green Bay. We're gonna try to make most of this or sense of this over the next forty five minutes, guys, with a full breakdown. What do you what's your initial takeaways? I guess from
this loss, and there's obviously a lot to unpack. One of the wilder games we've seen. I think in the last couple of years. The enemy is within. They keep beating themselves with mistakes, turnovers. That's five and two games. I know a couple of them had some complications to them.
They weren't just straight turnovers. But when you do turn the ball over, when you can't stop the run and when you can't make field goals on a consistent basis, you're gonna have yourself in trouble against very good teams. And then let me throw in when you can't protect the quarterback, and I thought they did a lousy job of compensating for the loss of Tyrn Smith. And I don't want to hear ever again that Cam Fleming started in a Super Bowl. They got to have better than that.
And if they can't have better, then they got to have better help that they didn't give him because they fell behind and felt like all hands on deck in the receiving game. So all in all, you get your second consecutive loss, and you see a trend brewing with the five turnovers in two games, and maybe worse than that. Go back and look at the five their last one, two, three, four losses, and there's a running theme in most of them that they can't stop the run, going back to
last year. Brian, Yeah, good points, Mickey all the way around. And I'll retract my statements about Super Bowl tackles for you next time. I think that to me that you were the only ones saying, oh, I'm guilty of that. Um, I think that to me, the biggest thing that came out of that game was the lack of physicality which the defense played with yesterday. You know, and the and the Packers are not a team that has had much success running the football. Teams have been able to shut
them down. You know, Aaron Jones is a nice back, but the way that he ran the football yesterday, you know, was exactly what the Green Bay Packers needed. They didn't have to have their quarterback play great, even though I felt like that he made the right throws, his ability to move and to buy time, and then to also put you in pressure throwing passes left hand and throwing passes to the sidelines over the top of safety men over there. You know, all these things that kind of
come into the game. But I thought the biggest takeaway from me, and you know, and not to not to piggyback Mickey stuff, because he's absolutely right, but I just thought the physicality that the Cowboys defense lacked yesterday. Now, the best defensive effort I felt like they gave was on the goal line to keep the one time when they kept the Packers from scoring and made him kick a field goal down there, that twenty yard field goal.
You know, that's the best they played defensively as far as and stopping the run, Guys being square, guys playing in gaps, guys beating blocks, guys getting to the ball. But overall though, you know that Packer offensive line with a backup center was able to do things to you that, like Mickey said, when they have problems, they don't play well up front, and they don't play well enough that linebacker,
they tackle poorly, and people take advantage of that. And that's exactly what the Packers were able to do yesterday with their physicality. Now you look at Aaron Rodgers' final stat line two hundred and thirty eight yards eighty five passer rating. It would have been higher except you didn't have to throw any touchdown passes. It was all Aaron Jones. I don't think the Cowboys have ever given up four rushing touchdowns to a player in a single game before.
You don't have to think, you know it had never happened. And you know rod Packers record too. Dorsey Levins, I think I remember seeing one of these the name of Jim Jim Taylor lo shoe man. But yeah, no, I think overall, Yeah, you know, Rogers did his thing. You talked about some of his improvisational plays, especially on their second touchdown drive. Sure, last second shovel pass. You said, those over the top to the tight end and kind of reminiscent of that. Jared could play in the playoffs
a couple of years ago. Yeah, but Jalen Smith talked about angles too. How many times did Aaron Jones get to turn the corner just out running guys to the edge. No, No, that's that's a problem. You have forced players that aren't forcing and then guys who are not finishing the plays. You know, Byron Jones was guilty that vander esh was
guilty of that. You know, even a Woozier one time, even though he came up and made a nice stick you know, on that play that where they tried to reverse the field on the team, you know, but he had one where he got caught inside. I mean there was a couple of different times where that ball spilled at the edge and instead of being a minus one or minus two or no game, turns into an eighteen
fourteen yard I mean fourteen eighteen yard run. So yeah, I mean that that was you talk about, uh, playing your playing your technique, playing the gaps, playing where you need to play, playing the angles. All those things you want to say about defending the run and tackling or finishing, We're all on bad display yesterday on the Cowboy Defense.
You know, you you mentioned Rogers numbers right right. If I'd have told you they would have held them to the eighty five quarterback rating in two hundred and thirty eight yards passing and only four completions to his wide receivers, you'd have taken it, right. Yeah, sure, off right off the bat. But this is another game. This is this is the second game though, Mickey, we've seen where if you said Alvin Kamara did this, you'd have taken it, right,
If Aaron Rodgers would have done this, you'd have taken it. Yeah, they're just I think the point you made earlier about the turnover, I think that's just killers, you know. And to me, and this is going to sound terrible to say, but you saw and you know, you saw thirty five million dollar quarterback out there playing yesterday. You know you saw.
Now the numbers don't say, but the plays that he makes, protecting the football, what he has to do, you know, getting his team in good situations, working the clock, you know, all those things, A sixth sense for the rush. Yeah, wha yeah see, And that's where to me, if you want to talk about the great quarterbacks that you know, the guys that if you want to get into the whole money situation. You know, that's where you're at, and that, to me is why that guy is worth what he is.
They're down to receivers. Mickey's right. They don't throw the ball to the receiver. I was worried about in the game them throwing the jump balls. But they run the football. He finds guys that are open, he makes plays. He throws the shovel, they throw the screen. They do all kinds of things well. And he got help in this game because going into the game Green Bay, I think near last in the league eighty six yard rushing a game, no question. You know it's at some point with this
run defense. We keep saying they're good at it. They're good at it, and they have been. They did a pretty good job against Camaro a week ago, Yeah, and the previous couple games. But I think you do have to look back to last year with a couple of games and wonder what's the issue here. I know they're missing a couple guys up front. Tyrone came back, played twenty three snaps in the middle of the line. Woods Antoine's still out, But what's what's holding this defense back?
Up front? With a point of attack all I know is I got a list here of some guy named Marlon Mack one hundred and thirty nine yards in a loss to Indianapolis, C J. Anderson one twenty three, Todd Gurley one fifteen in the loss to the Rams. I know they held Camaro to less than one hundred yards, but New Orleans still ran for one seventeen and then Aaron Jones for the second time in his three year career, rushes for a hundred yards against the Cowboys the Pack
one hundred and twenty. Those are their last losses right there, and to me, that is significant, and I think that is something now that we have to address and be worried about on how are they going to fix that, Because if your defensive front is not holding down the fort, then your linebacker is going to have trouble because they're getting their offensive linemen on your linebackers and some of those runs that they gashed them on, and then you
got to have your safeties coming up and making tackles in your cornerbacks. You know, the best tackle, as Brian pointed out, was a Woozier coming up and making that stop. And that ain't the way it should be. The first on my list tier of tackles by defensive linemen is Dorence Armstrong with three and Covington with three. After that, you didn't have hardly anything from anybody else. They and basically what they made their bet on is they were not going to let MALIEK. Collins mess this thing up.
They double teamed him a heck of a lot. And then you really didn't get anything from your from your defensive ends. And here's what's happening, And we talked about it last year, how teams were using the Cowboys aggressiveness against him. You get the defensive ends coming up the field, right and and so they're saying, okay, fine, and we're running the ball. We're gonna let you come up because
we're going in the middle. We'll double team in the middle, and you're gonna have a gap if your linebackers aren't going to stop to play. Yeah, and another thing about you mentioned all the things Rogers did, and his experience told him when he fumbled the ball to flick his hand out like this, to act like he threw it. He didn't throw that ball, but they bought it. They bought it. That crew. Don't don't get me we'll get there. We'll get there. There's plenty to unpack on that side.
But but how smart of him. He knows he's losing the ball and he goes like this to act like he threw it, not to get us off the road, because I've been grounding even if it's ruled it in completion. Yeah, I mean, I thought that crew had a rough go for both teams. And they did they watch the game? What were they doing? Yeah, it was it was bad all the way eating popcorn. The thing I think that to me that bothers me is how this defense wants
to get up the field. They want to attack. The problem is when they don't get up, when they don't get up the field and they're on the move, and then they get caught on blocks and then now all of a sudden, you're washed. And when you're washed, and then here's a backside cut, here's a you know, when they wanted to when they wanted to run the ball inside,
they were able to do that. They were able to get guys, like Mickey said, up onto the linebackers vander esh And there was a couple of times, let me tell you what, Jalen Smith, there were a couple of times there where he just flat looked like he was guessing, he was guessing where the ball was going to be, and took himself out of some plays. You know. Now again they'll probably go back and watch that and say, Okay, that hurt us there, That hurt us there, that hurt
us there. There was too many that hurt us their plays where like you say, if you're going to attack gaps and play the run, you know, play the quarterback or play the run on the way to the quarterback, you better make sure you beat your blocks. You don't get caught in a situation where they wash you, right, Because they wash you, then that's leaving that's leaving linebackers exposed. And these linebackers have had their own share of problems
having to do with that. Sean Lee wasn't very good yesterday, you know, lat and Vanders didn't do very well in space yesterday. Caught in the open field, caught a couple of times in the open field. And then Jalen Smith, you know, like I said, I think there were two or three plays. If you have a chance to watch the All twenty two, you'll see him on some end zone stuff. Guests and where the ball was going to be. Any guest wrong, you know. And I got a suggestion
for miss their next gen's stats. They need to add one for a quarterback extending the play. I'll guarantee you if he threw thirty two passes at least twenty five times he extended the play. They didn't. They didn't get to him right. They covered and they kind of forced him out of the pocket. But he got out of the pocket and made plays and and and he did the thing that daksh would have done. On the one interception that was his fault. He had Zeke underneath all
by himself. He could have dumped the ball there. Yet he threw in the triple coverage all he had to do. And he knew it. He said it after the game. I should have dumped it to the back, Yes, And that's what Rogers did. He dumped it, dumped it, dumped it. See that's the thing about two. Like last week, he was seeing cover two in that game and they were playing man underneath with their Cover two, and he likely thought that they were still playing with two. They were
probably matching with man. But where like Mickey said, though you had you had a corner to that side that was dropping. You had a corner to the far side that was coming. You know, there was just too much clutter there to get the ball inside. But Micky's right, you know, Elliott was wide open in the flat, you know, and unfortunately though he you know, in the comeback he took a sack, you know, trying to move to his right. They didn't do a very good enough job blocking, said
Darius Smith. Smith trips. He's got Jason went and wide open in the end zone. I mean he's standing there, wide open, and it's one of those throws that if he could have just had just to tick longer, he's gonna load it up and throw the ball. And now the Cowboys instead of taking the sack and then taking an incomplete and then having to you know, you know, kick a field goal or you know, then they that's
it's it was. You know, they lost points there because of just some you know, like Mickey said, protection breaks down, they make a play, you have a guy open, quarterback can't get him the ball. You know, there's a lot of those things that happened in this football game. Yeah, they lost they lost points on that other one when they got knocked out of field goal Ranch with the sack. The sack, yeah, you know, I know they were only at the thirty four, but okay, fifty two yard field
goal least you're gonna try and kick it. Yeah, but he hits his back foot and then all of a sudden as Zadarius Thomas is all in his face. Kurt Smith, excuse me, it's got to be better, and they can't go into the next game. Letting Cam Fleming play that many games one on one with the defensive end. Brian hinted at it that, oh, Mickey, Mickey was on it. I mean him an opportunity, and yeah, a lot of times you had to quote Mickey, you had Witten kind of in his back pocket, but then he'd he'd go
out in the in the patterns. What they started to do was Zeke was starting to chip Zeke. There was a couple of times where Zeke threw a shoulder in there to try and help him a little bit. And then there was one time where they just completely set the formation to that side and put the two tight ends over there and let the two tight ends handle him, and then he was able to slide down inside, which allowed them to double the other side. You know, I'll
give Brandon Knights some credit. Brandon Knight only practiced on Thursday. That's the only work he got all week. He doesn't get much work playing, you know, he doesn't get much first team reps, you know, even as you know and helping out there. Yeah, it's practice squads, practice squad stuff that he gets. So I mean for him to go into the game and hold up as the best that he could, I got to give that guy a lot of credit for playing on some guts when he could
have been really really like I thought. I mean when it first happened, when when Lyle Collins went out with them cl spraying and MRI to day by the way, on that when he went out, I'm thinking they're gonna kick, They're gonna kick Connor Williams outside and bring in. We were debating that in the Presscott what do they do? Yeah, and I guess they didn't want to swap two positions out and that Brandon Knight's the guy that was hurt in training camp for a spell and also started camp
at guard. I'm sorry. Moving the guard right, so you know, moving back outside did pretty well, but overall, yeah, Dak sack three times. Um, what do you guys make of his just overall game? I mean career wise, passing, yardage wise, it's it's a career day. Uh. This is this is where I fight with the analytics guys. To me, Dak Prescott throwing the ball forty forty five times? How many times? Yeah? You know who? And I know what you're gonna say. This is where I have my my argument with them.
You know, I don't think that Dak Prescott's built to throw the ball forty five times a game. I really don't. I think Dak Prescott needs a supplement of a running game, which I think they would have had yesterday had they not been run out of it. You know, they had no choice. Prescott had no choice to throw the football. But I just feel like, though making him throw the ball forty five times in the game, you start to
see some of the things that happened. You know, you see the absolute some brilliant throws, but you see those ones where you go, oh my gosh, he didn't see it. Oh my gosh, she didn't see that. Oh he didn't see that, you know, and then all of a sudden, now you're dealing with turnovers which could have had another one if they didn't get the penalties on the throwing. Absolutely, that was a terrible throw. There's another drop by green
Bay one. But here's Nie had one. Whose record did he break for passing yards in a single game, Tony Romo's And guess what that was in a loss against Denver? That was That was the duel with Peyton Manning nine. Very similar because Romo had to just sling it around all day and there were some critical mistakes made, yeah, by Tony in that game as well. I'll guarantee you go look at quarterbacks that throw for that many yards and a lot of times. I mean I remember Troy
Aikman's games. It was because they were behind and they're thrown and thrown and thrown and you end up losing. See, you gotta be you gotta be somewhat balanced. These people about all just put it on his back and let him slinging around. Don't even worry about running the ball. If they could have not fallen behind like that, Zeke might have ran for two hundred yards. That's the thing is,
I think he would have been Aaron Jones. On the other end of it, I think he would have been the Cowboys would have been the one controlling the game the way they did with their offensive line and then controlling it with the running game. And you know that way thinks you know that that that the fact that they got to stop on the first possession and then drove the ball the way they did as quickly as they did down the field, and they get say you get seven there, you know, great job of of you know,
of a route becoming open. You know, Dak, I mean Amari Mitz. He has to catch that football, puts the ball out in front. Though it's a walk in six. Maybe the game is a little bit different when you're doing all of a sudden, it's seven nothing, and now the Packers are going to have to, you know, have to do a little bit more, no question about it. Zeke and Pollard only sixteen carries, but they were getting about five yards up early in the game. And I
looked it up. After four drives, they piled up one hundred and sixty eight yards first four drives. But they get the ball for their fifth possession and it's seventeen to nothing. Tell me, tell me it's changes the whole course of the game. I tried to bring this up on the postgame show, tell me where the drives stopped.
The first five drives stopped for the Dallas Cowboys. Tell me first drive green Bay thirty eight okay, green Bay forty four, So interception, sack okay, green Bay thirty five interception great, Dallas forty seven hunt yeah, green Bay thirty six, missus field goal? They that right, can't finished drive? That That right there, That right there, to me, told the whole story of the game, because that first one should have been points. Yeah, third one should have been it
could have been. The second one could have been points if you don't take the sack on third down, right, the next one interception you're at the thirty five right, next one, okay, you punted at the forty Evan, I'll deal with that. Then you get a miss field goal. Yeah, those were those were points each time you're leaving them on the See. That's what I felt like. That's how
you had to beat Aaron Rodgers. It was gonna be a to me, I said thirty one, twenty eight game, and it felt like it was gonna Okay, Now you just have to find a way to out score the Packers defense was right for the take and yesterday Amari was running free before the Alexander had no answer for him, and I thought, Alexander, I'm Likeking. Oh he's one of the top coin Mary Cooper just turned him around. The whole day before the game, I was told that they
hoped Kevin King would play. Yeah, and I said, well, okay, fine, And then does Alexander you know, shadow Cooper And they said, we hope he does because he will light him up. Yeah, and sure enough. And then check this out. Second half. You punted field goal, touchdown, touchdown, terrible call on the interception, touchdown,
miss field goal. So almost they had thirteen possessions and one two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight nine were potential scores and a bad interception because the Edwards got it, got the red you know what with Garrett and he forgot how to call the game. Let's take a break there and maybe get back to that some Yeah, some issues with the calls, both sides of the game. Just a just a weird game. Cowboys dot Com Slash Cowboys Hour, Welcome back. I think the Woozier played poorly yesterday, I think so. I don't think he did. I don't think he did. You know, I was worried about the ball coming over the top of him. There were a couple of times where they challenged him and he was able to to keep his guy wide stay with him, you know, good job, good job of being physical, and a couple of plays tackling
on the edge, you know, that's what. You know, he got caught that one time inside with the ball bounce. But you know, overall, I was worried about him in this game. But he held up pretty well for catches by wide receivers. Yeah, so Byron is right, that's all. That's it. That's it, that's it. The run eleven catches by the running backs. Yeah, yeah, tight end and then
the rest were tight end tight ends. Yeah. And they got him on the and they got him on the one blitz with Graham going across the field and Heath didn't and they lost. He just had open space because they blitzed the linebackers and he had a clear Heath that didn't stay keep up with him. You know, Mickey said this to me on the in the parking lot on the way out last night, that there just hasn't been a complete game no lately from these from this team.
And you know, the defense went two games without giving up a touchdown, and we talked at length in the first segment about their struggles in this game. But the Cowboys offense, mostly due to these turnovers, have not gotten off to a good start. I looked it up. They've been outscored in the last four games since the opener against the Giants, seventeen to thirteen in the first quarter. They just have not gotten traction. And it's different when
you're playing against Aaron Rodgers. You just can't afford it. And you know, we got a mail back question this morning, Brian about trying to get more takeaways. How do you get more takeaways? You can't bank on that when you're playing a rod because he's not going to give you the ball. He's he's only turned the ball over three times I think in three games against eight starts overall
against this team over the years. Yeah, I think the thing they would have had a turnover on the goal line if the ball does not hit Robert Quinn's head because Byron Jones was driving hard on the play and he was going to win to the spot. So Rogers might have might have put one right in his gut, you know when I'll see if Byron Jones would have come up with it, but at least they would have that opportunity. And then also two on the Wu hit I was talking about that ball moved a little bit
too there, you know. I mean it was a good hit and Jones could have you know, it could have very easily dropped that football. But you know they haven't. And you know, I'm it's it's you know, they they've they they missed them some opportunities earlier in the year, they dropped some interceptions. You know, people are talking about all this defense, can't do this, can't do that. Well, I think the biggest thing you need to worry about isn't playing the run, you know, And I think that
to me. You know that turnovers they tend to come when you know, when you're able to put yourself in position. And I think they've just had some bad luck on some of those turnovers as well, or at least creating turnover because they should have had the Rogers fumble. Yeah. Yeah, so on that note, I was expecting you to wear your white. Officials looked at it, and you're not wearing ky I'm not going to do it. But he thought about it. Oh I wanted to, and I just said, no,
I'm not gonna do it. I mean, the biggest storyline coming out of this game, you could argue, was what Jason Garrett did with the red challenge flag in the second half. That might have been the biggest talking point coming out of this game, and it was, you know, symptomatic of you know, some calls that you're you're shaking your head at in the second half when they're trying to rally. Yeah, I think I think what two things
hacked him off on that challenge. Number One, it happened right in front of them, right on the sideline, So they saw what happened, and mister bully came running in and called it out of bounds. I don't know if the other bully, the other official on the side, I think it was Sarah Thomas. I think she saw it and he bullied her away from it and called it
emphatically out of bounds. When everybody in the Cowboys sideline saw what happened, so if they saw it, he should have seen it right and then doubling down, he knew he had to challenge that, but he also knew, this is my last challenge. And I got a lot of game to play, and we're scrambling get off our ass to catch up, and now I've got to burn one that I shouldn't have had to burn. And so after the guy smarted off to him the first time and said, well,
if you didn't like to call, throw your flag. Yeah, so he threw it. So now he's got to throw it. And it's like he knew, Okay, I'm doing this, but I'm not going to have a challenge the rest of the game. And he needed it. On the interference on gallup, we got gallup, guy, how do you miss that? Yeah? The man almost had his helmet yackt off. Yeah, and his head went down. He almost got thrown to the ground. It wasn't like he lost his balance. Yeah. Did anybody
go back? And this is the first time since Switzer in ninety four ninety five that the Cowboys coach has been called for for unsportsmanlike conduct. It might have been for a head that was a that was a that was I think an assisting got called in again, Um, I thought it was. Initially I thought it was Chris Rochard that got drew the flag. Well, no, no, the way that the bench reacted on from the television side of things, for Chard went running up and I thought, oh, no,
Richard got this penley for saying something. You know, but yeah, you know what and it might have yeah, because they never identified who said what. Yeah, when Jason was asked in the postgame press conference, he said, I don't remember, Like they asked him, did you say something offensive? He said, I don't remember. Well, then when Tolbert answered it the pool report, yes, he said it was for abusive language
towards an official. Now, they said, why did you penalize Jason Garrett, But they didn't say when they announced it who was on. They just said the Cowboys bench. Right. I thought it was hard and he might have said something right, Yeah, I think he jumped up there like but you know, that's that's just unfortunate though, that that's Scott Edwards, the official, because I've seen a photograph this morning of the play and down the line and it's actually you could see both feet and bounce with him
staring right at the play right. I mean literally he is, He's looking right at the feet for a mark and I and I'm sitting there thinking, okay, he put Jason Garrett in a terrible situation. They're, like Mickey explained, you know, the fact that you that's a big play all of a sudden, here we're fighting for yards and trying to
get momentum. And now you you know, you don't give me that call when it's your job, that's your sole job is to make sure that these these these you know, receivers get their feet and bounced to catch the football. And the fact that he was unable to do his job and then force the Cowboys to have to burn a challenge because he was incompetent at doing his job. See, that's what the that's what the league needs to look
at these guys. And my suggestion has always been, hey, uh, there's been a there's a notice this week, Scott Edwards will not referee for a week because he's had several games where he is misscalls. You know, if they make these guys accountable for what they're doing instead of like coddling them like they do, you know that they won't change pass interference calls. They won't do anything. You know, everything is protected, you know by these officials. Well, Scott
Edwards doesn't need to referee a game this week. You know, he needs to sit out because he's not good enough at his job. No. I mean, hey, the Cowboys lost the game. I'm just saying though, and they fell down early and and they got but but yeah, it did it.
But you know the game that that you play sixty minutes and the game and then you know, the Cowboys had the opportunity or rally and for a coach to have to use a challenge on something that should have been ruled a catch to begin with is acidine and and that and that, and now it affected the way he had to call the rest of the game. It affected his you know, he had an interception a turnover and he could have challenged the turnover because his receiver
got mugged. You know, he could have challenged that, and that would have likely been that would have been like overturned. That call would have been overturned and they would have still had the football with an opportunity and they got the ball back eventually I think, and scored. But that's precious time off the clock. Yeah, and at the end of the game, they basically just didn't have time. No, Maher missed that field goal at the end, and we can get into that as well, But they ran out
of time. Well, they put themselves in a terrible hole. And they're not blaming the officials because I thought the officials were awful for both teams. You know that that I mean, you do hit the quarterback in the head with a hand or whatever that is. I've seen quarterbacks get hit held a lot worse, you know, and then all of a sudden, you know, no call. You know that to me? Is that to me is not a
good way to go. But I just feel like, though, let me ask you guys something real, just strategy wise, sure, would you have considered Mickey kicking the field goal early and then saving the time out, say with two minutes and twenty somethings? Considered kicking the field goal first and then trying to go with the on side kick to
say the time four they tried to field goal? Yeah, I mean stop, I mean no, no, no, like instead of you know, when they went all the way to a fourth down, right, but to save the clock, just go ahead and kick it. Just go ahead and kick it there while you had the opportunity, and then take the chances on the onside kick there with it with with time and a timeout, how far would that field
goal have been? I know it was a lot of closes of fifty yard field goal, right, No, I think they were they were in position to just if you could pull up the because I was going through it in my head last night of thinking do you leave yourself enough time? Now? People argued like, hey, Broadest, nobody's
recovering on site kicks anymore. So when you say, you're saying before the two minute warning, before the two minute warning, they were first and ten at the twenty five, there you go, second and ten at the twenty five they got the first down. Now your first intent at the fifteen?
What was it they started the clock at war It was an incomplete pass and you didn't get to the two minute warning until second There was an incomplete and it was right at two minutes, and it was second and ten at the fifteen, So it would have been about a thirty two yard field goal. Yeah. See, I was minute thirty three. I mean, I you know, I just trying to think the strategy what's the best strategy. I'm just thinking, when you're when you're in the fifteen
yard you gotta go score. You're so close to score and a touchdown, go ahead score because that's the hard part because if you recover the the the on side kick, then you only have to move to fifteen yard yards. Yeah, I got a field goal. There you go. Not that he's gonna make it. I know, there was some thought in my head. Initially I said, okay, do you kick the field goal? Leave yourself time with the time out. But you know, I mean that that makes sense. I
was just going through my head. And next time Dak decides to run out of bounds, go left, don't go right, Yeah, because then the ball's on the right hash and he's gonna miss it. Okay, we gotta come. You know what. The worst thing about that miss too, was the false start. Yeah, because he made it. Yeah, he made it the first time. You're right, he made it in the twenty seven. Yeah he did. And and I thought it was off sides.
But I guess that's why it looked like off sides because he just to move, he jump, Oh where's he going? Not going anywhere? You're just gonna stand up in block. He's now Maher's missed, you know, two last five fifty something yarders. And we've talked about those short kicks in camp. And let me tell you another thing too. You might keep an eye on this punter. Hunter might be dealing with that back injury. Well he is, yeah, because I mean it's Jones. They won that side of the battle.
They were They were punting you into a hole and you were punting at thirty four yards. His net was thirty three point three. Yeah. Yeah, but they had a didn't have a good return on one of them. Um, if I remember correctly, I just know they needed him to punt a little bit better than he did and they didn't get it done. Now they didn't, did they? Yeah? Yeah, Okay, let's take our final break. We come back. We'll put a rap on trying to break down this thirty four
twenty four loss to the Packers. Next on talking Cowboys. It can be hard to find the right resource for learning about important financial matters. I think Tyrant can get back this week? And what's statue on the field
before the game? Yeah? Um, he looked like he was moving him okay, but again it was on the chords. I didn't see him kind of running freely. Um gosh, she looked so good doing it. I was gonna say, just let him go out there and stand, just make a guy run around, make the guy run around him. Yeah, because he got going to run through him. Yeah. Yeah,
regardless of how it feels. They sounded optimistic about the report they got last week that maybe he missed one game and then you try to get him back out there for the Jets. But now now Lyles got an mcl sprain. As you said, yeah, Brian, it could be a little I mean, for sure, you'd like to have him available for the Philadelphia Eagles. That's really where I think the focus needs to be. If if he's working on the chords now, then maybe we'll see chords on Wednesday,
Thursday and see what Friday brings kind of thing. I think the one thing you are going to get back if we keep talking about the running game though, or the run defense, is Xavier Woods excuse uh, Antoine Woods, Yeah, is going to be back. So you know, we'll see if he can make a difference in there. They've they had, they've had their problems. Do you think they've missed him that much? I think I think they've missed that. I think they've missed that big body. Yeah, I think they've
missed the big body. I mean, now, they played without him at the Saints and they you know, to me it was it was solid against the Saints, said they rushed for whatever. But but I mean, to me, that's where I don't know. I mean, I just kind of feel like though that having him in there would be a be a good thing, better than you know, Tristan Hill just doesn't give me much right now. He's just not strong enough. You know, that's a problem. You talk about guys that get washed and play high and all
that when he plays down. Always talk about he's got a good shot. But he had his problems yesterday. You know, in that game, I thought the tackle that played the best was actually Crawford. Crawford to me was a guy that was the most active. And I know the stat sheet doesn't say that, and he played minimal snaps because he's got that hip issue. Yeah, but he was. He was. He was a lot. He was he was inside, he was causing some problems. He was he was being able
to penetrate on some stuff. You know. Covington hath he had three tackles. Mickey said he had three tackles. Yeah, yeah, but but two for losses. But to me, you know, Crawford, and I'm not defending Crawford, trust me, but it playing a defensive tackle. He gave you a little something in there, you know, as far as getting up the field and being disruptive when they could when they needed him. He got twenty three snaps out of Tyrone Crawford and he hadn't played in three weeks. I was the first time
in three weeks. Yeah, um, yeah, they can use woods in their hill. Only played eleven snaps. Yeah, and he wasn't good the eleven he wasn't. He got washed out of there a couple of times. So but you just got to hope tyrans ready because now you're compromised on the other side. If Lell can't play, Now what do you do? Do you say? Well, Night was kind of encouraging.
Do I give him the shot? But now I can't protect both guys, right, I can't give I'm being too tight end each time, and you know, extend the line one on one side, one on the other Jason Garrett on the fan this morning said, Lyle's a tough guy, like Brian said, he's got to get checked out. See what it. Maybe he can do this week. But with an MCL, usually what is a couple of weeks before usually depend on two's usually the short end of it,
you know, And that's what Woods has had. And now he's missed tubes, so this will be three weeks to the next game. So yeah, those are you know, Fortunately for him, he doesn't have to do a lot of cutting, but you still have to push off. Yeah, and you know when you when that MCL is sprained, boy, it just doesn't give you much lateral movement. Yeah. Well, Cowboys dealing with some injuries. They're dealing with a second straight loss. We did our best to break it down for you.
We'll be back on two day with Bill to continue looking at this and the Jets coming up in week. What week are we in? Six week? Six weeks? Flying by? Already flying by? All right? Why you can't squander opportunities to win games, because you should go back and look at you know, at some point, just the way I kept saying in twenty seventeen when you lost to the Rams.
It was what game four maybe whatever it was. But when you got to nine and seven and you missed by one game, it's like, oh, how about that game we gave away? We lost by two. Oh, but wait, the next week we turned the ball over all these times and you know, lost by ten and after we're down thirty one three, which was, by the way, the largest comeback in NFL history was twenty eight points. Yeah, was not to be right at times that history. They ran out of time, and so did we. The Break
is Next. This has been a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
