The following. He's a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club. This this he's Talking Cowboys training live from Dallas Cowboys training camp in Hawksnard, California. Here are Mickey Spagnola, Brian Bruns, Rob Phillips, and Bill Jones, and welcome into Talking Cowboys on a Thursday, just an hour and a half maybe before the start of Cowboys practice.

A morning practice today, the final on field work before the Cowboys head up the one on one to San Francisco or fly to San Francisco to take on the forty nine or Saturday night in the preseason opener, Rob Phillips, Mickey Spagnola, Brian brought, Kaden Gates and William Boykin's over Yonder producing. Well, one more to go until we finally get some game action. You're gonna stop at the Hearst Castle on the way up, you know it always. I love history like that, Yeah, I love to you know,

the Getty Museum, all those places. This state is really is awesome for all the things that they do have that you can kind of go and see. But no, I gotta you're driving. Yeah, I mean the bone Crusher or head and head bone Crusher, you know, so we're gonna get pictures of you all the way up like every other mile. Just this is kind of a behind the scenes And again, I know people are probably tuning in to let's talk, let's talk about argue about players

and stuff. But James, you know, the bone Crusher is the team photographer, right, and so you know he's so quiet, yes, right, And I'm thinking I rode with him last year. He rode with me, and I'm thinking, boy, this is gonna be five hours of me listening to music and not saying a word, you know it just kind of trying to pull man the other nice. Yeah he can. I guess he talked. I know we we we left here at ten am and we got to got to the gate there at the Levi Stadium and he's like, Okay,

thanks for the ride. Yeah time he is. I mean, they're thinking, okay, I'm gonna have to pound like two of those red bulls, which I only Drake would I have to, you know, and have to drive and kind of keep alert. But he I'm thinking he's not gonna say a word, and he, James, he talked the whole entire time, and I you know, and I just kind of sitting there like, Wow, this is something I would have not expected for the listener. Bone Crusher is one

of the nicest people you'll ever meet. James Smith, team photographer, Yes, long time team photographer for any save stories by the way. Yeah, but he's, oh my god, she mild manner. He doesn't say a whole lot. Yeah. Usually I think every picture I have over these years from training camp and offseason workouts, they're from him because he catches these candid shots, absolutely no idea he's shooting, and he takes the time to

send him to ye. But yeah, he got a picture one of my favorite pictures, and this is this is the the brag picture. He got a picture of me and Troy Aikman talking one time in Philadelphia on the field. You know how I always to get on the field. You and I'd be standing in Kansas City looking at wind direction. We're both looking up like fools at the flags and stuff. But he got a picture of me like talking with Troy Aikman, and it's like Aitman's like telling me, I got my arms cast. I'm like really

intently listening. It's one of my favorite pictures because it's like, I'm I'm really like locked in what's going on game day, you know, and all that little intensity there. But Aitman was probably telling me about a good rib place he had been to down the road. You know what he did during the Blue White scrimmage he wasn't here for he was doing the TV. He took a picture of the TV me interviewing Jerry Steven. I can't remember which it was that he send it to me. It's funny.

Did James do Proud Brian was? No, No, somebody did the best shot ever off television that was off TV. Oh my gosh. That that's enough to make you want to go on soda diet right there, that Proud Brian moment. I need to get a skinnier pri Brian privant moment. But yeah, no, it's people are very creative out there. I admire people that are very creative. And you know, I speaking of creative, they had a creative roster here

with a lot of these guys. They absolutely do. We're gonna we're gonna take a closer look at it today as they get closer to preseason action and evaluate a lot of these guys down the ninety Man roster. Yeah, uh, let's quickly recap what we saw on Wednesday out here only a few hours ago, but you know, twelve hours ago a little more than that. Um, what stood out to you a practice first fight, if you want to

call it. Todd Archer took credit for that one. He jinks that one scared at that in the press conference. Didn't looked like the first round of a heavyweight fight too, just kind of danced around and through that air, and then everybody broke it up. I'll tell you what. It was a baseball fight. I'll tell you what. It was

funny about their fighting wings. Yeah, Joe Looney, Joe Looney was the one who started the fight because he was playing guard for Zach Martin yesterday and he got a shot like Lale Collins was on, you know, on Triston Hill, and Tristan Hill didn't see it coming, and Joe Looney kind of took a nice little rib shot on him and knocked him on the ground, and Lyle Collins was kind of over the top of Hill, and Hill pops up and he and you know, Joe Looney kind of

disappears off into the off back into the huddle, and Hill comes up swinging and and uh and in Collein's like, well, if you're gonna swing at me, I'm swinging back. So yeah, there was there was a little bit of that going on. But yeah, it's the first rule, you know, tot to toe that we've seen as far as guy's kind of

getting upset with each other. It's been building. I thought it had happened sooner in that because you could see a couple of hits so that were level that weren't supposed to be hit, and it's like, Joe Thomas is that guy? Oh he hit that was yesterday. Joe Thomas hit hit Pollard. They run that thirty seven off the edge and thirty seven to run play and and and Joe Thomas coming from inside bam like face to face and you see Pollard kind of snap a little bit. And it was right in front of us, so as

we were there on that sideline area. So yeah, Joe Thomas is kind of a sneaky hitter. Him and march Lillard. March Lord's another one of those. He'll kind of work his way through and boom, get a little shot and the kind of go off to the side. You know, that's no big deal. Let you know you're here. Yeah, Hi, you know, I'm just gonna hit you high today. Jeff Heath do that to you too, Jeff Heath run up and he'll get and he'll he'll run into a pile and he'll he'll find that angle and book hitch it

and then kind of go off to the side. Yeah. I touched up. Yeah, touched up tag two below. So that was the tenth tenth practice after ten practices, and you can see a game on the horizon. It's like Lyle said, after practice, it's gonna come out. Ye hit on each other enough times and something's gonna happen. It wasn't a big deal. Quick. Could I give some practice

credit to somebody to my left right here? Yeah. Mickey Spagnola told you yesterday that if you're not getting on the bus, if you're on the injury bus and you're not getting healthy and you're not being out there to participate, they we're going to leave you at the station. He said, Hey, two guys, get ready, and he called the two guys that were on the road. So I don't always give them a man Tom left a lot of credit, but

he called that one right there very nicely. For you right there, because I think that's where we're at right now with camp. You said ten practice is in rob if you're not. And again there's guys out there like Zach Martin and Crawford and those guys of course the starters, but if you're a guy that's a down the line type of a player, they don't have any more time for you. The days of waiting in OTAs and we're okay,

and everybody's fine. Nope, we're getting ready for games. We're getting rid for preseason games, we're getting ready for regular season games. We gotta cut this thing from ninety to fifty three. If you're not part of the mix, then I'm sorry, Lance Lenore. I know you have a banged up knee and you can't participate, but we're moving on. Rico Gathers, we're moving on. We don't have time for

you anymore. And they were light at guard anyway, and I still let him go because you know, we got practicing. I'm practicing, right, can't help him. Expendable can't be injured. That's correct, That's that's a great line. Expendables can't get hurt, and I'm sorry if you do. And it happens, right, But it either got to push through it or expect this is what's going to happen. And they end up, you know, having to bring it to see what they're worried about getting through the game. The game, and you

got to have extra guards. And they needed another tight end because Witten's not playing right, the rico wouldn't have played, and so they bring in a tight end that, Oh my gosh, he's been in the league. I think this is his fifth since twenty fourteen, so five years. This is his sixth and he's on his eleventh roster move

and a couple of teams brought him back twice. And he was a good tight end at Missouri right scouting report, it was the second leading receiver in twenty thirteen when they went to the SEC championship game against Auburn and one quarter away from the National championship game. Oh no, he had fifty eight catches, the leading receivers with Dorieo Beckham and he had fifty nine. So he was But he hasn't stuck. He's been practice squad, practice squad, practice squad,

practice squad. I mean, at some point and some you would give up at some point you don't want to stay in shape and then do what it takes to be that workout was a little tough for him yesterday. Yeah, Usmyer was kind of pushing right. Us does a drill where he grabs you like it's it's an old Tim crumb Right used to do this drill for the Cincinnati Bengals when used to go on the road with Tim defensive tackle. He might remember he broke his leg in the Super Bowl and and he uh, crumb Right used

to grab guys and wrestle with them, you know. I mean he would like make you mad, wrestle with you, you know, and he'd throw them off. And I'm like, oh no, here goes crumb Right. He's gonna piss this guy off. And and Nussmyer was doing the same thing, and you know, he was kind of jerking this guy around a little bit, and I was thinking, oh man, this is not good. You know, you need to sit down hill, little power and all that. But yeah, Mickey's right,

I mean the guy has talent. The problem is, though, no, he's just never been able to kind of get over the hump to get onto a team consistently or make a fifty three man roster, Marcus Lucas, Marcus R. Lucas, Marcus I'm not sure, is it Marcus Lucas, Marcus Lucas. I think yes. He was wearing number eighty right, he will be wearing I gotta admit it was a little weird not seeing Rico number eight a little shorter eighties this time. Yeah, yeah, a little bit, a little bit.

Who else did they sign offensive lineman? Go ahead, Mike Bushell beat that. Bushel beat yeah, Juan Juan Bushell Beatty from Michigan. And then they've also before that they did they also had uh Lucas, Lucius McNeil. So yeah, I mean, all of a sudden, these are guys you probably have liked to have seen during OTA's mini camps and stuff. But like Mickey's talking about, guys are getting banged up, the guys aren't practicing. You know. That's that's hard that

that's all you know. You can't have the expendables great word, Mickey, by the way, expendables can't be you know, be on the sidelines with us doing training camp live. They got to be in the training camp live action for us to have an opportunity for this team to evaluate him to just remember there's two thousand, eight hundred and eighty players on roster. Quick math, right there, I did it right quick, Yeah, and these guys who didn't have a job. Yeah, yeah,

but that's what you're at. But you never know George Selvey shows up. But that is one of the great all time signings by a pro department in my opinion, of getting a guy on on July thirtieth and then making him and what he did for the Dallas calbum. And he's been out here helping out too. I like George Selvey. I think he'll be a great coach one day. Now times Powell at least has played games in this league and has played for christ Rah Shard, and they're

throwing him out there. You see him. Yeah, he's getting some reps and the one on one stuff and all that and some of the team stuff. He's actually getting reps as well. Corner corner number forty five. I've been noticed. I've been watching him. He's he's a guy that you could understand why he was initially on the street, not for poor play, but for that what I was worried about with a little bit worried with with my guy h thirty two Donovan Alumba, that that is he a

guy that gets close and can't make the play? Is he one of those guys? And we've seen that he can cover, he can move, he could turn. But they're kind of taking advantage of the guys like Smith and know or taking advantage of Reggie Davis has taking advantage of them a little bit though, So you know, got to get in the flow of things here. He's got four preseason games. But boy, that is a really really deep group of cornerbacks that they just threw him into

right there. And CJ. Goodwin decided there there you go. It might be CJ. Goodwin all of sudden seeing guys make plays and all of a sudden makes the business decisions like you know what, Britt I feel, Jim, I feel pretty good. They might be eighty five percent, but you know he's gonna go out there practice because we made We talked about this yesterday. The sixth corner Donovan Alumba,

who who is that? Goodwin Alumba, you know, Jackson. These are all possibilities right there because that is a very very deep group. By the way, Mike White might have made the best throw I've seen him making Oxnard yesterday against C. J. Goodwin. Yeah, finally threw it down the field. Yeah, that was it the blue period, right, he hit he hit um John Vay Johnson. Then he came back and hit Cedric Wilson and was started for him. He threw the ball much better yesterday. I'm hoping that that that

this kind of gets him going. You know, cut it loose, Mike White. T shirts need to be made right now, and you know, hopefully because you do see the town. He made it. He threw a slant throw. I think you're talking Mickey to john v Johnson. That was a freaking rocket. I mean, I mean it was like got the snap ball out of hand, Johnson on the brake in front of the corner, snatch up the field. Thank you,

Mike White. That's what I've seen from you before. I need you to kind of play with that kind of pace. So when you're watching the Saturday preseason game, this is what you gotta pay attention to. These types of guys, actually, the backup quarterbacks. Yeah, that's that's especially I've a feeling that's with Brad Sham and I'll be focusing on quite

a bit, like what guys moving the team. Jason Garrett was nice enough to tell us, you know, hey, when you're looking at a quarterbacks, this is how you kind of evaluate them. In and out of the huddle, communication, helping the team finish. Those are all the things you need to kind of look for. If the quarterbacks are doing those things, then we're having a success at quarterback. If not, then now think about other guys that might Yeah, by the way, you got an answer from Jason Witten

about that moment he had with Vander Eshtice. I only jumped ahead of the fine reporter across from me because I knew you were going to ask that question. I had a feeling you might ask that question. Well, I didn't see that make that observation a couple of days ago. I'm glad you asked it, because, um, that's interesting. I mean, that's something that's that's things you can see at camp. M Vanderesh not everybody gets to see. Vanderesh was interested

in the route. Vanderesh was like, Okay, how do you how did you run that route? How did I felt? I felt you run the route, but how did you run it? And so and Jason went was very complimentary towards Layton Vandersh, who's not very complimentary. He's got a great bus out there by the way. That family. I need that. It's blue and orange. I'm all about that night. Oh my god, I need a bus. Yeah, I could go to all the races I want to. We're riding

that bus. But yeah, I think to me that that with he was very complimentary towards Vanderish, but he appreciates the fact that Vandersh wants to learn that Vandres, you know, it's not often you get to cover a Hall of Fame tight end down the field and and try and do your very best to keep him from the football. A matter of fact, he covered a Hall of Fame tight end on then out route yesterday to the sidelines of quick pass they tried to get to UH to

Witten and Vandersh knocked the ball down. So any time that he could get that kind of coverage where a guy's leaning on him and and and trying to separate and the routes and he could learn as he's going along, I think that's that those kinds of UH opportunities are are great. And but Witten just explained that, Yeah, I appreciate the fact that he wants to learn, he wants to be better, and those are the kinds of things he goes. I'm more than willing to help a guy

like that, especially those kinds of things. Marinelli's favorite line right when he asked him about it. The guy, especially a veteran, it's like, does he know it all? Or does the man still want to learn? Right? And that's that's a good sign for a young guy that has a rookie season that he had, but he understands there's still ways to go. All right, let's take our first break when we come back. Yes, we'll check in with periscope. We'll see what the fans absolutely cook in with us.

It's a walk through,

right correct? All right? Uh? Recapping Wednesday's practice, you guys wanted to highlights a certain guy on defense who's been showing up lately. Look at air if you can see that, look at that in capitol letters, that's at least sixteen point right, Taco Taco. You know I wrote about him as well, Mickey, but I wish we had the drops right Yeah, yeah, michiean Kit But Kaden, I love what you're doing too. Drops here, I don't think drops throw

it throw it on him. Yeah, no, you know it started on the one on one drills and and uh, you know, I understand the majority of those snaps he had that he won on was against Cameron Fleming. But when they got into team he was he was doing a good job. Absolutely. You know, maybe if he just stays away from having to go against Tyrn Smith all the time. I think there's a lot of defensive ends what they want to do that like you're out a

count in line and go okay. I asked for the for the for the pre for the pregame show on TV on Saturday. Scott Purcell wanted me ask Tristan Hill a question and it turned into you're looking forward to you know, he wanted to go You're looking forward to kind of going. He goes, yeah, I'm looking forward to going against somebody sites Tyren Smith. Yeah, you know what I mean. He's just just yeah, he wants to get

away from that big guy. But Taco in two days ago and team and absolutely he played well, Yes he did, and that's not blowing smoke. And now I want him to be excited about playing well. Yeah, like don't don't get a sack fumble and just mo mosy back to no jump up in the air, you know, enjoy yourself. Yeah, and he's been beating down Brian Bross is beating and he's starting to show and he needs to do that, especially with Okay, there's no DeMarcus Lawrence out there, there's

no Robert Quinn out there, there's no Tyron Crawford out there. Hey, you're kind of the guy. Let's go. I'm not around him as much as the coaches are, and I know I hear what you're saying, but there's part of me, as somebody who's kind of has kind of a laid back demeanor himself. You can be a little misunderstood when that's the way you carry yourself. I get it. It's football, and you want to show what passion emotions. I get it's fair but fair, but you know, to a certain degree,

maybe that's just kind of how he is. It doesn't mean he doesn't care. You know. Well, if he thinks he's a hot boys, then let's let's let's go. Let's get hot, let's go. You know. But it's kind of segue to you guys, and I appreciate me. That's a great analogy, not analogy, great analysis of what Taco did yesterday, because you're right he there was times they were running that quick game going out out the right side and Tacco was chasing from the back side like you could.

I'm sure Dak Prescott when he let it go, he was here in Taco breathed to him. That's how close he was. Well, he's the one that screwed up that flee flicker. He did, and he also kind of jet sweep when they tried to run it, and he got up the field real quick on that too. So give him credit for that one thing. He said the other day, Um, he'll play anywhere, but he doesn't. He did say he's comfortable on the left side. That's where he started his career,

right Michigan. Yeah, Yeah, and played a little behind the law. I guess his first rookie year. I think that's a better spot for him. I mean, is there what's the difference? You know what? To me, it makes sense. It makes sense to him mentally because he's used to play in the run because he's not He's not one of those guys that you would say is a blur coming off the right side, those you know when you talk about the Quinns and the guys like that that could really rush.

Taco is more of it. He has to kind of think his way through, and he when he's thinking, then he's not making moves and he does the spin and he gets himself, like Mickey says, in trouble because he goes too early on the spin. If he could find a way to win more to the edge, win more to the edge without spinning, didn't get a little confidence, he could become a better right end. He could because

he could give some people trouble with his length. The problem is, though he doesn't use his link to get to the next move because he's thinking, I gotta spin, and these guys know, like Mickey said, he's gonna spin right into someone being really patient blocking him so he's got to learn more to get work more to the corner, get to the corner, dip below, keep his balance and then go get there, you know. And that's weird because yesterday and the one on one that's from the right

success was from the right side. Yeah, right side. And I was watching in the team period because he was going against Fleming. Yeah, but that's where he and then when he went to the left side, he lost his feet. And I'm going, Okay, maybe it's just got to be on the right side. Balance is bad at times when Taco is bad. Maybe he has small feet or something. He's bow legged. He can walk over he is he can walk over fire hydrant and never know it. You know,

I just walk over fire riding, you know. But he's longer clates something. Robert Quinn had that problem too early in camp. Okay, this is kind of segues to big Daddy, Big Daddy reeves. I like that, all right, Big Daddy, Big Daddy reeves up. He wants to We talked a lot about Taco, but could Joe Jackson, oh have a better San Francisco game than Taco. I was gonna start this was a question before this was what we were always I was gonna start my game with Joe Jackson. Okay,

well maybe why is that? That's a good one? Huh, why is that? I'm gonna name the game first, get what's the name? What's the name of the game. It's called up the one on one, Mick on the one on one? Who needs to bring their game up? The one on one from Oxnard to San Francisco and really stand out. I need to bring my game. I know that. Yeah, we all do. I'm guessing Joe Jackson will get more opportunities. Yeah, I mean he's gonna play a lot, don't you think. I think he is. And now he needs to take

advantage Taco. But if he gives Taco gets a couple of series, I go on the right, maybe Joe Jackson on the left, Armstrongs are gonna play. Armstrong will play two that might need to be bad if they get those two young guys kind of going at it. San Francisco has had some problems with some injuries, but kind of like this team. But yeah, if you can, if you can kind of get those guys going for a couple of series, maybe a quarter. Yeah, we see Armstrong and and Taco get after it a little bit, and

then we'll see some of the guys getting vault. But if you had to kind of crystal ball it, maybe maybe one guy has four tackles or three tackles or a pressure. Who in your crystal ball are you're gonna say? Oh, I think this guy is gonna between Taco and Joe Jackson. I'm I'm really looking. That's that's from our periscope, by the way, and thank you to the question, Uh big Daddy Reeves. I'm thinking Joe Jackson because I think he might play well into the second half. Oh yeah, he's

gonna play a lot, maybe more than Taco. Yeah, it'll be him and Jelks maybe that whole second half. Yeah that's another guy you like too. Yeah yeah, And and what are you seeing from him? But it's like it's like these are these are the times you've got to show up. You know, you can do the stuff out in practice. And Jason was saying Jason Garrett was saying it yesterday in the press conference. But when the lights come on now, is are they too bright for you?

You're ready to shine? And these are their opportunities. That's why these games are important. I understand. You know, the stars aren't out there playing, and I know they're important, don't worry about winning and losing. But watch these young guys. Watch these young guys, Tristan Hill, I bet they wear him out. Yeah, you know he he doesn't. He doesn't get veteran you know, responsibility out there like okay, you had a series, you're out now. I'll tell you he's

gonna play. I'll tell you a guy who this is important too. To Mickey's portant, I know it might not be part of your game. Bret Maher, No, we'll keep going. Yeah, yeah, yeah, Brett Maher Yeah. I mean you talked about even though he's the incumbent and they don't have anybody waiting to challenge him right now. In my opinion, this this you know, they're very patient with him right now, probably a lot more patient than Brian brought uses. But I see this

is there's some trends going on here. And if you talk to you know, Keith o quinn, the Special Team's coach, he'll tell you, wa wait, we chart all this stuff. They've been happy, we've been happy with him. There's stuff in practice that we don't see. But when you do see it on the line. They're driving the ball. It's a chance for a win in a two minute situation, and you don't make it. That's what we see. I'm sorry,

I don't get to watch. I'm over here watching. I'm watching, h you know, Reggie Davis trying to make this football team over on field two. I'm sorry, you're over here on field one kicking field goals. Okay, maybe I should go over to field one and pay more attention to that. But but this is important. This game is important for a guy like Brett Maher because these guy guys like me talking about that this is a bad trend of him missing these field goals in these types of situations. Yeah.

The best thing he's got going for him, though, is there's nobody out there. Yeah, unless you want some of those the Chicago Bears have gone through. They've probably gone through a half dozen kickers. After what happened at the end of that playoff game. Well, I mean, there's always got to be somebody out there who's kicked in the league at some point. Right now, that's not a morning to the folks that have been watching. I know who's out there, I know, but I mean just that's my

next question. I'm gonna go up to Alex Loomis and go, you got a kicker. I mean, well, he's a great job with all the stuff they bring in, but he's like a get a kicker. Yeah. I mean there's only thirty two of these jobs, so I mean there's you know, there's a lot of guys who have whether they're good and reliable is another. A lot of teams have two though, Yeah. Yeah, and this team relies on tight, close games more than anybody. Thirt say, thirteen to the sixteen came down to a

touchdown or less. Unbelievable. Yeah, I mean this coach has been good this career, his career here, he's had a lot of wins when it's been really, really really close, a lot of wins. Yeah, it's a good point. You know what he's been. He's been okay in those close games. The only one I can remember missing was the one against Washington, and that's the three he made it. Yeah, and then they moved him back and it hit the upright. It was more down the stretch. He missed the field

goals down the stretch. It's like the middle of game that you can't miss. You can't miss an extra point. I just would hate this coaching staff to lose their job. And Rob said it the best this division can hinge on one game, and you don't want to have a chance to beat the Washington Redskins in Washington and have another situation where you miss a field goal and it costs you and then then at the end of the day or at the end of the season, it's okay.

Now you got to go on the road and play at or instead of being at home and playing a game that's I don't think it's very good. You know. That's why Jason answered that question the way he did yesterday. We got to give him more opportunities to continue to try and improve because he knows there's nothing else out there. I don't and they don't hear any confidence in there's

redfing So yeah, so they're right about that. So if and he kicked what five or six yesterday, But it has not been consistent overall in camp for the most part. So if over four preseason games, if there's a kick to be made, it's Maher kicking it. Let's hope absolutely. Maher didn't last year in the San Francisco game, Maher missed the field goal at the end. Then San Francisco took the ball and drove the length of the field for the game winning touchdown. I don't recall that. I

trust you, Yeah that happened. If I could be part of the game here do it again? They want to know, Okay, talk about bringing your a game. Jordan Lewis pushing Anthony Brown? Do either one of those guys need to bring a game or do we know enough about them? They're both on the team. They're on the team. But but as he pushing is okay? Then about this question? Then, is Jordan Lewis pushing Anthony Brown for more playing time for

that sycle side? I mean, just judging off what we see, there are times when you know they're going three corners out there Lewis as at the right cornerback spot and Brown will go inside. But they flipping it almost daily. No I'm saying. But I'm saying, is that an indication that maybe there is a little bit of a competition there for who's the third corner Byron Jones? Before Byron Jones is starting week one a woozier on the left side, your nickel is going to be Anthony Brown. That's what

I think this. I think that's why the question was asked. I would lean towards that as well, but I'm just saying, hey, hey, Jordan had a pick yesterday and seven one. He's he's been guy here competing and playing well so and against some really good receivers too. I talked to him yesterday and he just kind of went down the line of guys you're having to line up against every day. Gallop in those guys, some of the young guys, Tavon Um.

It's a it's a good depth battle there. I know you like Anthony Brown, but I think we all like Anthony Brown. Lewis is a guy that has taken advantage of his snaps when he's gotten him. They've been kind of few and far between, though. Yeah, Mickey, Mickey's staying firm. He's not gonna he's not gonna give up on Anthony Brown. Player. Okay, no argument, but either way it works out. It's a very good fourth corner in case somebody gets hurt absolutely or if Byron Jones isn't ready to go, but it

sounds like he's getting close. I was talking to the guy that they have um that Byron brought in. He works him out as a cornerback, not physically, but and he said he's really and everything that that they could expect him to do this recent from hip surgery. So

that's a good sign. You mentioned Reggie Davis, Brian, Yeah, he comes to mind as a guy like one with the lights coming on, because I just always go back to Andy Jones a few years ago as Jones that out here, oh my, all Valley Ranch, all Ranch, all Oxenard lights come on. It's a little bit of a different story. And Reggie Davis has been among the more impressive receivers we've seen in camp just in terms of catching everything. His top line speed. What do you think, Mick, Yeah, absolutely,

Reggie Davis, John Vay Johnson, Jalen Guiten, Cedric Wilson. You can put all four of those guys in that boat to take Tavon Austin out, you think, No, I'm not sure about that. But if they keep six, then there's there's four guys right there for two spots. See this is where now I see if they keep Tavon Austin as is he the fifth guy? Because you probably feel like that they're gonna keep to keep your big wide receiver there, Noah Brown. I have my doubts on that

right now? Do you really? Why? Okay? I'm just can we go? Here we go? This will be fun, and this will be fun because if Noah Brown stays because a big body guy and special teams and all that because they like him and all. Okay, I agree with you, because you're right. But did he cut you off coming out of the Star parking lot one day or something? No? No, no, no, what happened? Here we go? No? Wait, tell me what he's done? See, that's that's he's not wrong. But see

do you see them keeping two undersized receivers? If you Tavon and Reggie, do you see them do it? That's why I've been saying all camp, Reggie Davis has got to show you something on punt return, something else, to stand out in a role, because somebody's got to beat Tavon Awsome. Because I don't think Mickey, I don't disagree with you about Noah Brown, but I'll say this though, Noah Brown is like gum on their shoe. He's not coming off the shoe, and he's he's you talk to people.

He's pretty, not pretty, he's entrenched. He's entrenched in there, and and there's a lot of there's a lot of guys like you just named him all you named all those young wide receivers, and I oft, let me tell you another thing is gonna happen. And and suddenly Cedric Wilson's wis in the bear and I could play in the slide. Let me tell you this though. Get ready, you can start asking these coaches questions about these receivers and they're not gonna tell you anything about it, right,

because what's gonna happen. We're getting closer to the we'll get closer to the cuts and say they play well or they're practicing well, yes, Sanjay lyle about these receivers. They're doing okay, it's hiding time. They're doing okay, they do not It's like it's like been Bloom talking about linebackers, young guys doing well. Well, what about what about Hally Hall. He's learning, he's getting better. Yeah, yeah, I mean there's no there's no early in camp. It's like, yeah, we're

really excited. Da da da dah. Now it's like he's good, he's doing fine, he's learning. Yeah, he plays because because nobody wants to be the guy that all of a sudden, some he's in New Orleans. That guy in New Orleans watches everything, reads everything. Well there's a ten man practice squad. Yeah. Yeah, like they trust us. No, I don't think they do. No. I mean the people in New Orleans when we talk about Rachie Davis. Oh, let me tell you this, Sean

Payton knows we're smart. Sean Payton, I can't. I can't tell you how many times and again that's my relationship with him. Well, you guys do a good job down there. I love training camp. Uh that phrase, I love It is actually a really

good phrase. He said it again on NFL Network. Yeah, yeah, he's got it figured out because that's a perfect way to describe what the problem they're doing. And it's not just those three guys, it's all the other guys next year, it's the it's it's better than saying we're trying to divide up the pie. You know, that's no. He encapsulated everything that was said there. You got a question on another radio station today, what's up with Zeke? Nothing? That

was very shortest answer you ever gave. Huh, I did? I mean? What else was I gonna say? Not talking? But Steven's the way out right, We're not talk They won't call me back. You think maybe things Stephen talks about things being different we get back to Frisco. Yeah, we we we're seeing different in Frisco because we're getting closer to games. Yeah, we deadline or we just don't want to could we could we be a situation? We don't want to talk about it anymore. If you're Dakmar.

Two years ago with Zach Martin, he decided to table talks until after the season because they couldn't get a deal done in training camp and he didn't want to think about it. So now, I don't know if they'd want to do that. I mean, I think Zeke wants his contract. Oh no, I didn't. I didn't put Zeke in that conversation. Yeah. Yeah, but I mean that's something I think it is sort of an artificial deadline in

some cases, right Mick. I mean, if you want to get something done before the games, or if you want to get paid, yeah, leave a lot of money on the table. Give up two hundred and twenty four thousand dollars you could. I could. No, I'm talking much work as I'm talking for Dak and Amari too. I mean, you know, before the games start, and there is an injury risk once the games start. I mean you'd want it. You want that financial security if you can, right well,

I mean it doesn't mean it. If somebody put that signing bonus on the table for me and I'm getting it before I really have to get it, I'd have to consider I can't worry about the package. I got to consider getting that signing bonus right now. And here's what's happening with signing bonuses because of that that twenty percent rule on the base salaries, the signing bonuses aren't as high anymore, and so so they could when you pro rate it, you won't have as much dead money.

So I'm putting more of that money in the base salaries, in the future base salaries, but the base salaries for this year count. So that's why these packages when people talk package, Okay, it's a four year deal or five year deal, but it's really a five year or six year deal if you count the base salary in the season you're in, when they're still it's still on the books. You don't just tear that up, right, So you got

to be careful. But again, yeah, if that if that signing bonus, if there's a twenty million dollars signing bonus out there, what's twenty million dollars in the Goofy bank? Yeah for a year? Yeah right, yeah, twenty million because you don't need it. That's you know, that's the thing. I understand what I do get what Zeke's trying to do, because again, they're they're in a situation now where say it, whether the league or whatever it is. But I can't

believe that you would devalue the running back position. Not to me, I wouldn't devalue it because I think it's important. I've seen teams. I've seen teams have great success moving the football because of quality running backs. Yeah, you know, I just think that that's especially in the playoffs. You gotta be able to run the ball. You gotta be you gotta be able to just you gotta be able to move chains is what you gotta be able to do. You got to convert and you know it's harder to

move the ball. It's hard. But again, when you talk about devaluing the running back position, I guarantee you they're offering a more than twelve point two five million a year question. That's what girlies garing tea comes out at twelve point two five. I'm totally with you on that. I just I just feel like though that the the guys, the analytics guys and gals that do this for a living, if that's if they're trying to devalue the position, I

I don't agree with them. I'm not going to fight those guys on that because I believe in what I believe, you know, and they have their say I have my saying it. But if you if you're telling me I have to play without Ezekiel Elliott or leaveon Bell or Todd Gurley or you know that's that's that's how people say, oh, well, look what did the Rams did? The Rams did that last year because of their offensive line. They did I think because of their play caller was outstanding and they

have outstanding weapons around. And now if you feel the Cowboys can can function that way with the first time play caller, then by all means they don't, then don't pay Zeke. I don't. I don't think the Cowboys devalue that position, or they would not have drafted Zeke in the fourth overall selection question. I mean they wouldn't have done it. They would they would have taken them back in the third, fourth round. Uh. It just comes down to distribution dilemma. That's when it comes down to, how

can we keep enough money spread around? Pay these guys fairly, but keep them enough money spread around and pay And it's not really about this year's cap. It's about future caps. Two. You don't don't come in here and tell me, Okay, they got twenty four million, they can do this. That's

not about this year. It's about next year and the next year when those base salaries now kick in and they go higher, and then the salary cap hit goes higher and higher and higher, and that eliminates the distribution for the other guys. One transaction around the league, Duke Johnson got traded from Cleveland today to Houston. Yeah, Houston was looking for a back situation. What they get third round pick is what it was. Yeah, conditional forty was

wasn't he conditional fourth next year? That can move come with three? According to ESPN? Right, Yeah, absolutely, so he was a third round pick? Is that right? I want to say he was a third round pick out of Miami. Yes, somewhere in that sixty eight sixty seven range, somewhere right around there. So kind of a run at running backs at that time, I believe. Yeah, dude, Johnson, nice player, a good get for the Texans, you know, I mean Bill O'Brien and those guys that that's a team. We

saw her own eyes last year. Running game would help that guy. I mean he took a pounding, he did track, right, Yeah, dude, Well, Duke Johnson was no Duke Johnson's got years left. Yeah, he just was going to get less time of playing, you know, and him and John Dorsey really weren't seeing eye to eye, and he made that known. He came out in the OTAs and said, I really don't want to be here. I don't want to play. So, you know, the Texans, their running back situation not great. They went

out and get a galley. Duke Johnson's a pretty versatile player. And it didn't help that Baker Mayfield spoke out about him needing to get in here and the team guy quarterback can't do that. I think he learned. Yeah, you see how Dak handles it right. You have to be careful you want it because if the guy comes back. You can't have a bad relationship with teammates. No, you can't know and especially the quarterback. Yeah, when the when the bridge is burned, the bridge is burned. You got

to move on. And John Dorsey saw that, He saw what was happening to Duke Johnson and said, you know what, let's let's move on before this turns into something worse than our locker room. He's got enough problems with Odell Beckham being there. That's gonna be interesting for a first year head coach, you know, and to handle that. There's Freddy Kitchens. I like Freddy Kitchens, nice man. Funny guy.

But I'm a little bit worried about a guy a personality, and I don't mean to turn this into Brown's talk, but no, there's some strong personalities. Be honest. I'm glad Odell Beckham's out of this division. I mean, I really am. I mean I don't have to worry about him anymore, thank god. You know he could still make play. You just got to stay away from other people's money. Yep, that's true. All right, So what was the movie other people's other never mind? Go now, go ahead, try to

figure that out. Greece, Greece. I just threw like the default answer. Yeah, I just I could have thrown out Jaws, yea Godfather. I'm just kind of thrown out a lot of things, et et something. Yeah, I'm still on all these movies. I'm not even thinking now, So you guys go ahead, Okay, okay, As we look towards practice stuff fire good movie. Um, they'll do a little prep for San Francisco. But obviously there's not a huge game plan here. It's more about player evaluation. Yeah, that'll be a little

bit of today's practice. I can kind of tell you what today's practice is gonna look like, if you go ahead in it, I know we have. We're gonna see cards and see cards. You're right making, But you know what you do. You see who's running the cards, and I'll tell you who's gonna probably play, maybe a quarterback and all those I mean, who's running against the cards. He's gonna gets cards up Brian Brother's head. Wednesday schedule in his pockets. That is a fail. Who knows what

day it is? That is a fail. I had Thursdays in my pocket. I must have left at my desk. I'm sorry about that, folks. But it's gonna be short of practice. Yeah, there'll be a period of defense and a period of offense against the cards, just to give him something that San Francisco might throw at him, Garrett, and you never know. Garrett said he wanted to give his guys a chance, right because he says, we get some pass happy or blitz happy coordinators in this league.

So you guys mentioned the quarterbacks earlier. Yeah, White and Rush competing for the number two spot. I don't believe we've seen Mike White in second team much, if at all. I mean, how much is he two days ago? He got someone, he got some work he got. I mean, if you look at the at the young guys scrimmage, all the blue white, the tim plays they had in blue white right to play it out. He took the hole.

He took the whole shebang there. How do you think Rush has looked the last few days, because we'll probably see a vast majority of him on Saturday night. Man, I'll tell you what two days he had back to back days we're throwing it well. And then he had the two interception day where uh you know, he a Lumba got him on an interception down and then also then Justin Phillips got him on his own drop on

down in the red zone. So, uh, he had a couple of passes yesterday that we're across the middle that we're going to be contested that were high, and he threw one that I didn't think he even had a chance to get there. So Mike White Rush some good, some bad, more good from Cooper Rush than bad. Yeah, the Mike White finally showed yesterday that he could be Mike White of Western Kentucky, which I thought was a

really nice football player. All right, Well, well, uh, the games are where it's really counting for those guys, and we're almost there. One more practice before the Cowboys head to San Francisco to take on the forty nine Ers in the preseason opener. Appreciate you guys join us. When are we back tomorrow? Are we back tomorrow? Yeah? I think we got Yea said we're gonna go tomorrow shows. Yeah, all right, we'll keep what I wanted to know. Okay,

we'll keep talking some Cowboys now, you guys know. And that's the rest of the story. See you guys tomorrow. This has been a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
