The following is a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club. This He's Talking Cowboys, screening live from the Dallas Cowboys World Hours at the Star in Frisco. Here are Mickey Spagnola, Brian Bruns, Rob Phillips, and Bill Jones. It's a Wednesday at the Star, and it's a day off for the players at the Star. But it's nary a day off for ducking Cowboys right makes no days off in the middle of the week.

At least one cowboy has been busy this morning. Damien Wilson has tweeted that he already has walked his dog, gotten in a workout, and mold the lawn today. So our productive day for Cowboys linebacker Damie and Wilson. He scored a touchdown, he walked the dog, and walked the dog. Brad Shammish, good, very good. We had We've had Michael irvinish and now we've had Brad Shammish from Mickey Spagnola, Brian has had been as productive a day for you

today so far as it has been for Damian Wilson. Yeah, I got through some practice tape and then also was able to write that that's up on Dallas cowboys dot Com right now, and then we filmed a couple of different things. We got a roundtable we did already, and I had one of the best sandwiches in a while across the street here at the Star. So it's been a very to check that. I've been a very productive day. Yep, been a productive day for the Aggies over there, Rob,

thank you, Bill, appreciate that. I got that on the way downstairs, and I get it pre show and on

the show, Aggie's in trouble. Oh well, trouble as the Buckeyes though, now pairs of that right there, you go, Yeah, we'll be okay, all right, So we stick to the NFL instead and talking Cowboys, and we are here for the next hour, and we've got a couple of practices in shells and shorts and helmets, yeah, that we can talk about here in preview the next two days of open practices as well, and Cowboys of course play a Sunday night game. The NFL regular season opens two weeks

from tomorrow. It's that close. We need a drum roll. You think they're gonna stand shells the rest of the week. I think that way I don't look in that way. Yeah. Yeah, and then I'm kind of worried about what practices are gonna look like on Monday. Well there won't be Tuesday. Yeah again, goes again. Yeah, So I think the days of I think the the the heavy lifting, as they say, was all probably done in Oxnard. So we'll figure this out from there on. He's he's gonna trying to give

his team a chance. I mean, I mean, I shouldn't say his team. He's gonna give his young players a chance here. He knows it's down the stretch. He knows he's got some kids are gonna have to play a lot of this Arizona game, and it's probably the second half, and then they're gonna have to go the whole Houston games. So I don't think he really wanted to beat up on his team too much going into these games and let these kids have a chance to see if they can,

if they can in fact change some minds. That and they've got they've got a lot of injuries across the roster, so maybe he's trying to peel it back a little bit. Although I can't remember did they go in pads during this Frisco portion last year. Yes, they did, they did. I do a little bit because I remember one on watching one on one pass rush drills yesterday, it was three steps and stop. Yeah it was right, Yeah, that was that was fun to watch. You get to see

who has a really quick get off there. But other than that, it was really who could set quick and who could get off quick there? But yeah, yeah, I think he just is trying to help his team. You know he's getting he's got a pretty good pulse of it's guy, Rob, You're right, I think he's got to beat up football team from practice. But you know they've got a couple of quick games too, that that Sunday night is going to turn around quickly and it's gonna

be Thursday before you know it. And then now you're now you're kind of in a little bit of a struggle there with that, and then you're taken some days off until you probably pick up on labor game. Yeah yeah, and then you're down to one padded practice a week every Wednesday. We will see him take that team outside, right, I think, so that's what that's his kind of his emo. But do you think they've got this team cut yet? I bet within the most part fifty maybe within a handful. Yeah,

can you can you identify the spots? Help me out that the guys that Yeah, well some of the players just tell me the spots. Well, we talked about the offensive line, you know, and and maybe and maybe they know the maybe they know the eight or nine they want to keep right now, but again it can change over that Labor Day weekend. Right. I think they waivers. I think they know the six. There's no way they could keep seven wide receivers, is it? Why not? If Tavon like I just nic, what do you do with

Noah Brown? See to me, that would be eight? Then I've lost me. I've lost Noah Brown. I've lost He's got him at eight? You got Noah Brown? Is your eighth best? Yeah? Okay? Is that factor in? Don't you think Lenora is ahead of him? Oh? No, I do. But I'm just saying, but here's here's a seventh round draft pick who they like as potential but hasn't been able to do anything. Thompson's the same way. So does he an I R guy or do you release him wavy me injured? Well you do that anyway to get him?

I mean, they haven't they haven't released him for a full practice yet. Yes, here's the thing though about you think he's ahead Lenora's ahead of him, don't you think? Well, I'm trying to think about what a guy can do to get dressed on game days, and we know what Noah Brown can do to get dressed on game days. He's gonna play, that's a good question. No Brown's gonna play special teams. And we've talked about who's blocking in the running? Are you sure? Are you sure he is?

He can? He's shown he can, okay, and we've seen his role on offense as a blocker in the run. What Laura gonna do on game day? I'm just asking. I'm with you. He's had a hell of a camp. I wanted receivers that can get open and catch the ball. I don't want receivers. That just the best thing you can say about him, Well, he's a good blocker. Who big spot? Is he taking? Mickey waiting a rotation at riders trying to help you? Here? Is he forty six?

Is he on your forty six game day? If he if he's returning punts, there's a reason why they return. You try to argue special teams. Well, that's a good point, but there's a reason the number first, also a reason why they traded for Tavon no. I know he's kind of another wide receiver that's kind of a big ta going to return kickoffs too, judging by what I saw in Oxnard, Well that's true too, So so Noah Brown.

What's Noah Brown doing that? And that's why I brought up Noah Brown that Chris Covington or Kioe Thomas by the way, damp passes over a guy who's in prison right now? Okay, but okay, is that is that? Is that going to be their most difficult cut? Now? And I hate then they say because these guys I think they they cut themselves. I think that they don't play well enough or something happens. But is that going to be the one area where they're going to have the

biggest problem? Well, I think that's one. But you've talked about this defensive line. There might Randy Gregory has got a spot on this fifty three. I think we're all comfortable saying that, Yeah, he did, he did. I was trying to get him to earn it and but then he came out and played. Is just doing things I want him to see him do. There may not be room at the end for an end that yeah, maybe somebody, right, there's the position flex of some of those defensive linemen

to help keep an extra defensive end. Yes, yeah, maybe which one you keeping the extra one? Yeah? Well, let's say I had him. You want to add him up? Just add him up? Okay? Are you? Are you on up Tyron Crawford? An end or attack doesn't matter. He's He's one of the whoever they keep here. You're first offs. Determine how you not keeping You're not You're not adding up defensive ends, you're adding up. Just gimme lineman. So Crawford's on the team, right, yes, Lawrence, yes, Collins, yes,

all right, probably Woods? Would would that be your four? Okay? Now let's go back at Gregory Yes? Five? Yep? Kay, Taco six? All right? John Ward, Brian Price, Brian Price, I think coach him praising him yesterday? Yeah, Daytone Jones. I don't think so he's going to I are you think so? It's not that he can't work out for two weeks the coach Dayton. Yeah, Mickey said that was so much confidence. When Nicky says stuff like that with confidence.

Then he guy's going to ir guys. He really believes it. Yeah, he did not hesitate, he said. Okay, so Jones is on. He's on the injured just not on air, but on the injured you're injured list. He's in no land right now? A Ward and Ward is on. You got bubble on Ward or Yeah? I think I'll put him a hair on the bubble. Okay, so we've got six locks Tapper, bubble Tapper's bubble bubble whom I forget? Oh? Armstrong? Armstrong's he's on seven there, right, he didn't do much that

last game. Yea, yeah, he's on. That's seven seven locks. Do I have enough defensive tackles I've got? Are we missing a defensive jil? You got Woods? Maybe Crawford Woods Ross to be playing Ross? Daniel Ross he started last game. Yeah, he's over here. He's a bubble the bubble boys. You got Prices a bubble boy? No, I got Price? You got him underline eight times? There's I think Price is a bubble guy. Yeah, yeah, okay, so you got five bubbles one? Okay, who's the four? All right, let's do this.

I've got seven locks locks seven locks, five bubbles and an injured bubble, so we need two more. We're gonna probably have nine, right, Okay, who who are the best of the bubble guys? Well, if if we're judging by who's playing, okay, wait wait, wait, hold on, how many tackles do we have? Yeah, that's important. That's four we need to count. And Crawford, well he's a halfer, he's a half Yeah, so I've got Colins, Woods and probably Price. So I got three and a half tackle Okay, so

you just took Price off the bubble. No, who are your locks right now? Your locks three? Two tackles, two and a half tackles, two and a half tackles. Okay, run down your bubble guys again, Ward Tapper, Elie Ross, Price, So three of those are tackles three and a half or tackles. Yeah, and then you got Eally that halfers the one yeah one, you got one and a half ends in three and a half tackles, and so your number of ends that you have as locks Lawrence four

and a half, Gregory Taco and Armstrong. Yeah, you're okay at You're you're okay at end. So there's four there? Do you think Brian Price is on there, I really do. I think he and he played himself. We're going to move towards the roster spot, right, I'll move him over here. You want Nicky didn't want to move? Do you want five total and including the half and halfs? Do you want five ends and four? You want to total up

five ends? I mean nine? I think I need about four and four and Crawford either either, So you want four and a half and four and a half. So that would mean probably Cony Eally and Crawford would be the Yeah, because think Cony Eale could play both spots and he's been working. Does he make up the other half? Does Cony Ely makeup the other half? Well, you've got okay, if let's say, okay, this is you've got two and a half right now on the tackles. Let's put Price

on the team. Okay, So I got Price, that gets you three and a half and Woods and Collins and then and then a half Crawford Crawford and a half. It's three and a half. If you keep Elie that gets you to four tackles. That's yeah, that's what I was thinking about. And that way you're keeping five ends, So you have what ends do you have? I've got Lawrence Gregory, Taco Armstrong. That's four. Okay, So let's I'm trying to get my ou guys. Oh yeah, you are

all right to get put Tapper in there. That's another end. Okay. So who got cut Ward and Ross? Warden Ross? Did you count Malie Collins? Yeah? Okay, just making sure. So it's a question of do you want to keep jad Well, what you're doing is you're keeping all the tackles and cutting the two defensive tackles. You're keeping all the ends. Excuse me, all right, forget about the position flex of a coney Eli is Cony Eally deserved to make the team over Jehad Ward. That's a tough cut. That's a tie.

That's who has been the best the last couple of weeks. How who's been the best in the game. Concerned are you about MALIEK Collins injury going forward? Going forward? I think they think he'll be ready for week one. But this is where this is where they're thinking that Coney Eally, if the argument will be Coney Eally will make the team because if something happens to one of the ends,

he could play as an end. If something happens to one of the tackles, he could probably go play tackle where a Ward can't play as one of the ends. That makes sense. Yeah, and gosh, it's is the potential vested veteran in or into any of this equation. Cony Ely, Yeah, you have to pay him a full Starward too, right? Yeh, Ward's a guy they were really talking up a month or two ago. How do how do you think he's

been overall? I think that once camp started, I think Jones has been better than him of the two guys that came out of when we went to Oxnard, Jones and Ward with the two starters, right, and I think Ward has been Okay, I don't and trust me. I had him in my top ten coming out of OTA's and it just hasn't materialized like I thought it was for him. Although people will tell you all the pads came on, do they consider the fact that they gave something up for him? No? Does that make you want

to keep him? Bryan's point though about position flex it might be the tiebreaker. Yeah, this one. Even though coney Elie looks like me Russian, sometimes you know, it's just not getting off the ball quick enough. He gets he gets like he's playing in sand. So I agree. And then some guys as they get older, they turn they from ends into tackles. Yeah, but see, okay, who's the guy? Okay? If this is so tough, like when metabolism sets in week five, Week five, you have to have a guy

play defensive tackle. Who are you going to trust? Coney Elie or Jihad Ward week five? Whoever you're playing David Rby. Oh, that's true, David Irby, I forgot about that. But what I'm joking because I ain't counting on nothing from him? Okay? Was that enough double negatives there? What? Okay? Completely not counting on him at all, planning not the season. I can see a lands and if I get him, great Okay.

And while those lines, well, do you need to keep an extra in because you don't know for sure about Randy Gregory throughout the entire season. That's Coney Eely again? I think do you have enough ins though? Or is it Tapper Boomer Sooner built like it's it's tough for me to let go of Charles Tapper because you see the potential. No, you like Charles Tapper as a person. No, and I like I like his first step. I've always liked his first step. Can I have we seen that

enough at times? Just closing speed, running down the guy on the sideline the other day? Can I grind my teeth and keep ten? Okay, if you're gonna keep ten, Mickey can't keep nine wide receivers? Then sounds for three quarterbacks ends yeah, yeah, and old boy, what are you doing at safety? By the way, which, by the way, safety they're gonna keep. They're gonna We're not gonna have a safety. We're gonna rush from the front. Uh, They're gonna give Rico some more snaps, I think with the

first team. Why do you say that with such surprise? Why do you have a smirk on you? I'm just saying there, it looks like that's what they're gonna do. Is this kind of a Daniel Ross thing where hey, let's well, are we down playing now you look at the coaches film? Yeah, okay, are we down playing jahad Ward this week? Because Daniel Ross was starting, well, they keep rotating guys in to try to find somebody over there. They used Chris Covington, went with the ones just straight

outside linebacker, played the Sam linebacker. Yeah, that's because Wilson went to the bathroom. Is that what it was? Yeah? And he came running back. Okay, I was wondering why that was all the cat I wrote about it. It's like Wilson walk the dog. That's really what happened. I thought that. Really I put him in there because he came running back. Yeah, I wrote him. I saw it him like going like you've been Covington some more. That's a good note by you. Eyes saw my eyes. Yeah.

But I well, okay, what's the position you're gonna have to go light at? Then? I've always said quarterback. Oh, you're gonna go with two quarterback? Well, I mean I'm not trying to cut anybody here. Yes, you are going ahead, because there's still two games. You cut people who you want.

I think one of the quarterbacks will be a practice squatter. Well, I'm with Brian and that you shouldn't go with me on any If you cut a drafted quarterback, there's probably a team out there that's like, oh, we had this grade on him and he's picked up. So you're putting Cooper Russian on the practice squad. No, Cooper Rush is my backup quarterback. Okay, I'm just saying a third quarterback it is somewhat of a luxury because we've seen them

recent years. Just go with two, right Mac now, Now the second quarterback is usually has been a guy in the past, has been a vet, you know, a John Kitten or somebody like that. You know, it's made me laugh. We did the same thing this time last year, and I had it all figured out and then I miss added and I had like fifty five. Yeah, yeah, I just cut them. I don't worry about it. Carolina, Hey, Goodell, were getting too except we're keeping you were keeping fifty

five here today? Where else can you go? Like, what is the fine if if there was if you had more, the league, what is the fine if, Mickey is the league will not let you do that. They had them up for you. They cut themselves. Yeah, they they have heard that before. You've got too many. You're losing number twelve. I'll tell you what though. It was a time during the salary cap era when it first started, if you could not get under the salary cap, the league would

cut players for you. That was that was part of the plan that you know, if you can't do it, the alarms would go out, Yeah, we do it for you. So what would they tell the bottom of the roster. They just start cutting guys until it's fine. Yeah, if you're gonna take the fine, then let the league tell

me who I'm cutting, right. I remember, I remember when they were really close to one of those and it looked like there was no way their teams going with fifty two guys fifty one guys and there is a minimum. But we did that. And I remember writing that the bells were ready to go off on the cowboys gonna be over the cap, right, And of course they got under. And the next day Stephen Jones saw me and he goes, I didn't hear any bells yesterday. What's the position to

go light at? If they're gonna go light? Do you think it's quarterback? No, I'm saying it's a possible they could, right, you don't have to have three q tight end instead of four. You're going three right keeping a fullback? So um, that's possible. About what about could you go right at safety? M h? Could you just go three? No? One? What you know? Okay, what are they gonna do with Scarborough? Scarborough makes the team see that's that's Darius Jackson. But

but you think both Scarborough would make this team. D Jackson is lurking. He's lurking. But you could initially if you did when us, if you're depending on what their decision is there, you could go lighter there at running back and then because oh, Wally could play as a single back if you had to run the football. I've seen him do this at Oakland before, and you know, we don't know what they're gonna do with Tavon Austin

back there, but it's a possibility. And seeing him a couple of times play back a little bit, yeah, but not enough to say, oh, he's a running back, right, Okay, so let's do this. We expect you to do anything special, teams, Let's tease three, let's tease this. Why don't we add all these up after this? Okay, that's what we're gonna do, and we're gonna take your phone calls at eight eight eight eight five two nine seven when Tucking Cowboys continues. In a moment, it can be hard to find the

I hear they're gonna have yoga on the plaza all night in movie night as well. Yeah, that's what I heard. What movie we're showing, I'm not sure, not know yet. I don't know. Somebody let us know what movie it is. Yeah, I don't ever go to the movies. I'm still trying to have it all the time. Yeah, they do. I can't remember why.

One night I left and the place was packed with people watching a movie Launchers. What's really cool? It was hot when you come over here on a Saturday and they got the college football games up. That's kind of cool. You kind of walk around and go to the shops and then if you want to watch. I mean I watched the A and M Alabama game one time. I was kind of head that game. That was a Yeah, that was I hear. It's pretty cool. A lot of games. We got one one, that's right. We're talking about the

twenty twelve games. Yeah, they replayed the Johnny Football Game, the classic. Yes, I hear. It's a pretty good fun day on Sunday too. You can bring your football and throw it around. Yeah. Yeah, that's when. That's when the that's when the Lindsay and I are on the set out there and the dads with throwing nine routes to

their five year old. Lindsay's eight months pregnant. We're like talking about the inactors and the balls bouncing all around our feet and stuff is that happening again this year. I think so out there on the play did you see it all? But it almost happened Saturday to the pregame show we were we're on the ball. Well, no, we're on the set and there's people standing all over and here comes some guy and he's ready to walk right in front of the camera. Was that Jason Garrett

when he came on the beginning of the shot? No, it was probably when Jerry was on. All right, and here comes this guy and he's not paying attention, and I finally did, and I was on camera and I went the stairs, stop stop. I looked foolish, But he didn't black out this set. We have people, we have people walk up and that's the beauty of live telling. They walk up right in front of the camera. What

are you guys doing? Yeah, we're doing a show. How about the time I think we were in San Diego and the balls came rolling through the set right and all of a sudden, I see this wide receiver comes flying through. He ducks for the camera, gets it and instead of exiting to the left, us back, Duck's back unders. It's part of being on the field live TV. Baby

one neat moment. Yesterday at Cowboys practice, they had the Santa Fe High School UM representatives that were in attendance and got to meet with Dak Prescott and Jason Garrett, Sean Lee and others. Um. We did a story on it last night on CBS eleven. Uh. And the dad, Chris Stone is a huge fan of Talking Cowboys Cowboys break all the program here on Dallas Cowboys dot com. I know he asked for your autograph, probably Mickey did

mine as well. It was on his sons like a bituary, you know when you go to your funeral and you sign the book. And he asked me to sign it. And it was like, Okay, I don't know if I can do this, you know. Yeah. Well, and then it was it was And it was actually Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick who set it up. He went to the funeral for Christopher Stone and Uh he was buried in a

Dallas Cowboys decorated casket. Uh, in an Emmett Smith Jersey. Uh. It's just one of eight students, ten people who have died in that tragic event in May Santa Fe High School down in the Houston area. And UM, I get his sisters were here and his dad and mom and dad and his best friend who has a tattoo of Chris and Santa Fe on his arm. I mean it um, it was and as his dad put it, you know, it was this was just a great way to honor

the memory of his son. And uh, you know, I asked him how long he'd been a Cowboys fan, and he said since before he was born. He was a Cowboys fan. But it also it shows us something. You know, we're here and real life is gone on out there a lot, and what we I feel honored to be able to just give a little bit of respite to people out there who are going through everyday life. And that's that kind of puts in perspective. Well, you know me,

I was overwhelmed. I just yeah, well, you know the great thing about being too at the start, we're walking down, I know, Rob and I were walking down on the field and you guys, super job doing what you did there. But the fans that yell at you and say yeah Brian, Rob, and you turn around your way and you know, and you just acknowledge them, and we trust me, we appreciate. We have a lot of back and forth with fans

and stuff, and that's part of our job. But we do appreciate the the everyday life out there, the struggles and of people. And you know, like you said, Bill, if you can kind of bring a little a little joy to people just because this football team does, that's what we do. That's exactly what we do. That beat video we did, the documentary and kind of following us around, That's what I said, Like, that's brings us joy to

be able to. I mean, people are so invested in what we do for a living, right, it's pretty cool. It makes it easy to come to work. Yeah, that's true. Yeah, that's one of the neat things about sports is how it brings families together, you know, and it there's so such special memories, whether it's your college team, whether it's your an NFL team or whatever. Anyway, I just wanted to mention that, Uh yeah, great story. So how about before we paired down the roster. There we have Josh

in Maryland here on talking Cowboys. Hello Josh, Hey, how's it going great? Guys? Thinking my call? Quick plush that Cole Beasley is there's something underlying going on with him as to why besides this injury thing that they're talking about and Rico rick On Davis and Dalton Shaw. There's Rico found him making a gap between Dalton Shaw even though he was a draft pit. Thanks all right, Josh, I'm glad you brought up Cole Beasley because that was

one of the lead items yesterday. He returned to practice and he looked good out there. Had that explosion. I think Josh is asking if there was something other than the injury, and that maybe there was some rumor about him not very happy with his contract and trying to you know, people were talking about potentially, well he's now a number one receiver and we'll see how that all plays out. But no, I think the bottom line is Cole Beasley is healthy. You look good, as Bill said,

out there practicing. So I think that's the main thing that you need to worry about right now. To have him back in fill. They need to get him going. Yeah, they need to find you talk about making things Dak friendly, get Cole Beasley going again, and that that would help this offense a ton. And he told us the other day he wants to get in this game. He wants some reps in this game to get ready for Week one and we'll see if that happens. It's he's been

out for two weeks. So also there was a sinister plot brewing. Yeah, that there was some thought when we were an Oxnard that that maybe that Cole Beasley was sitting out because he was just he was disappointed with his contract and there was hopeful that they can get

something done. But it was something that was again it's you know, you're walking around, You're hearing whispers and stuff like that, and you know, I just think that Cole Beasley, you know, he's he's a football player, and he you know, he wasn't healthy and now he's healthy and ready to go. So we'll see how that all plays out. He asked about Rico Gathers and Schultz. I will be the first to admit I am very disappointed at what's happened with

Dalton Schultz. I thought he would be a better blocker. I thought he would be a guy that could potentially try and push himself to be a starter here. He's not played as well as he has at Stanford, you know, and some guys come in and it takes him a little bit of time. And maybe that's the case with Dalton Schultz. But he is a hard nosed kid. It played at a very fine program that is a hard nosed program, and they drafted him to be a guy that could play as an in line why block do

what he has to do. But it's been a little bit of a learning curve and a little uphill struggle. I don't think Rico Gathers is. Where Rico Gathers is shined has been the physical plays that he played, the athletic plays. But he is no better blocker than Dalton Schultz is right now. So with that being said, I don't know if there's really a gap there. Okay, how how would you rate the two? Okay, you've got Swaying,

you got Jarwin, all right, that's what I'm saying. I personally, I think that in long term and this is where I you know, with Rico, I just wish it he understood. And I've made a mention of us yesterday. He ran a hot route the other day that I didn't think you'd ever you know, he But so maybe you're making progress there. I know people are comparing him to like, oh, you're gonna get rid of him. It's been Martelli's been

in all over and all that and you know. No, I mean I think that there's some legitimate concern about him not knowing his assignment. So if he can pull that through, he could be a better player than Dalton Schultz. There's no question about that. But Dalton Schultz knows what he's gonna do. They drafted him, they feel like, you know, the reason why they drafted him is because they probably feel like he's better than than Rico Gathers. Is your as we pair down the roster, is your gut feeling

that they will keep four tight ends? No, I do not. Now. Rico's got to find a way to make them feel differently. And I'm sure that we're back in home, so I could say Joe and Flower Mound is he's still listening, he's still trying to get on the air. But I'm just I just feel like though that they drafted Schultz to be the next guy to be that, to be a guy. And but it's you cannot discount what Rico Gathers has done catching the football. You cannot discount that.

And look, we saw him in twelve personnel. He's a couple first team reps here and there. I mean, are they trying to maybe give him an extra long look to see. Okay, all right, show us, show us you can be the fourth tight end on this Roger some

I don't think. Probably his past catching ability is given him the opportunity to get some attempts there with the first team and to get more explica because I do feel like your fourth round draft pick Daltons, they he's making this team, and I think long term they think he can be a productive player. I mean it just don't don't finish the play with the tight ends coach standing out there with his arms stretched out in his

palms up in the air like Nikki's not wrong. Okay, this is the question I have for you for the fifty three Rico Gathers, Charles Tapper, both Scarborough, Mike White. Yeah, think about that. Who's your fifty third player out of that group? It might be one of those safeties if you keep the if you keep Tyree Robinson or one of those guys you know, yeah, you might have to go heavy at safety just for a week or two. I did the numb till Xanders without counting as I went,

this'd be interesting, is it? Should we? Church? Fifty three? I got? Did you reveal the numbers? I got to fifty four. So you're all right, I'm interested to hear who's fifty four? Player is? That's what? Yeah, not the player, but the number, the number like each position. All right, you got three quarterbacks okay, three special teamers okay, four running backs including the full back. Okay, so it's three and one one got it. Eight offensive linemen. That sounds reasonable.

Three tight ends sounds reasonable. Seven wide receivers. And there's an asterisk there that that's why. That's what I'm stroke. That's heavy. That's that's heavy. That's heavy. That's heavy. So uh defense, ten defensive linemen, seven linebackers. That's not that's a position. It's not gonna be hard to cut, I don't think and nine uh bbs. And you got it broken down on the defensive linemen. Tackled it in Who's I didn't I just say who's got more quality at

their position? The defensive line or the defensive backs overall? Just I don't name the positions more quality players, because what you're doing is you're keeping an extra defensive lineman and you're going short because traditionally teams will go ten defensive backs and nine. But you've flipped it. Yeah, so you obviously feel like that might be your fifty fourth player. Would that be the tenth? I mean, I think I'm strong on four to five corners right now, yeah, and

only four safeties. The problem, the problem I have is I don't feel good enough about White, Ward, A Lumba, you know, Duke Thomas, maybe even did you keep Duke Thomas in your mind? Im? I'm trying to think if I did her in your mind? In my mind, would I keep Duke Thomas over the course of camp? He's been the best of that young guy. So what corner better than Marquez White? That's what I'm saying. They're starting

to play. They're starting to play Ward a little bit more than that than that group of guys I just named, like he's separated Ward to separate himself from a Lumba, Thomas and White. Yes, I agree, he had a couple really good days in Oxnard. You kept him, that would be the fifth corner. Yeah, yeah, and then if you kept for sake to bring everybody up to speed, the four corners ahead of him are A Woozier, Jones, Brown, and Lewis true right, true? True? Now count count the

safety and then the safeties. And I got to count Woods right, and you've honestly got two, right, Nathan Woods and Cavan. Well, yeah, there's three two that could play right now. Our fan pulse is on. Yeah. Now all right, we got polls going. I'll try to change them up as we go. Are you concerned about the safety position? The fans said eighty one percent said just a little bit right now. See, they want they want to trade for Earl Thomas right now. The fans don't want to

go into the season. I get a lot of fans saying, you know, why would they not make the commitment? You know, shame on them for believing. Here goes. How can the Vikings go out and get a looka you know, and they have one of the best defenses in the league. Yeah, that's a playoff team. Do you need another strong safety? Though? Well no, they're I guess they're pointing out there, pointing did the Vikings need another Yeah? Did the Vikings need

another se obviously? Yeah? Well, well Harrison Smith, and Andrews and Djoe whoever else? Yeah. See, I'm so locked into what's going on with this football team. I can't yet with the Vikings. I don't know if they've got an injury issue. You there. They may. By the way, I'm watching the Saints over your over your head a little bit, rob They don't look like they any extra offensive lineman giving up sacks and stuff. You know, the Providinals who

will be at a and get ready for that, folks. Yeah, maybe brings up another suff Okay, you're seeing the Cardinals sack the Saints a lot, who who apparently having reportedly have an abundant exactly what I'm saying, Bill, You played Dak Prescott absolutely not, absolutely not. No, I don't I think he's done. I think he has too. Yeah, it didn't sound like Jerry was playing on it, or if it were, you know, but his vote would be the

city right to make. And by the way he does the signing of Geron Johnson figure into they're trying to get through the bodies, but you could have signed a body that wasn't Mickey, Did you talk twenty eight years old? Did you talk to the guy said he didn't think who was talked to? Oh, Brad Sham talked to him. He was coaching football. Oh yeah, he was ready, he was out out of football, he was done. He was guamash high school. Yeah, in in outside of Seattle. Yeah,

he's got the parity for Shard. That's the main reason why he's he's trying to get them through this game. But somebody told me, like I don't be surprised he makes this team, and I'm like going, how you know, how do you do that? How do you? I mean, I guess keep him instead of Tyree Robinson. I mean, right now, Robinson's the fourth Robinson had a nice interception, Yes, yes, he did, yes, And he showed up in the game

the other day. They brought him down the box, he had a tackle right there at the point of attack. He had another tackle on the outside. It might be a little too late for him, but my gosh, he looks the party, look the part. On Jeron Johnson. Last year he played football. He signed August sixth with Jackson Jacksonville. Right. He was placed on injured reserve September first and released September eighth. Okay, so he's out of foot injury set.

He was there, but he was basically not even in the off season program, right Jackson because the year he was there for three weeks during training camp. Much like what the Cowboys are asking him right now. Hey, the year before he was with Kansas City twenty sixteen. He was signed by Kansas City on August fifth, after the Redskins had released him on March seventh, so he was not in an offseason program. Signed with Kansas City August fifth, and was cut on September second, and was out of

football all year. So he's been out of football for two years. I hadn't played any in basically three two and taking care of his kids. Yeah. So see this is this is just get me out of the seat, get me out of the preseason bit right now. Okay, so say say he's not in the conversation and either Huff or Tyree Robinson or the fourth savors. See that's the thing. First of fifth, if you were going to keep a fifth, yeah, we'll see that. I think they're

only to keep four. Well that's how I got to nine. Yeah, that's because you've left a spot for Earl Thomas. We continue with talking. Well, I don't know nine gost a moment. Cowboys fans know that the second best of anything simply won't cut it, and You're care should be no different. A long time locker room favorite of the players and

Here, I've got it. I've got a cigarette burning here in the corner of my mouth, and I'm telling you about the interview headphones to read like the great Gordon McClinton. Yeah, that's right. Are you creating a baseball? And there was the crack

of the bat. Rad Sham did it last last month and training camp he started doing one and somebody's going, what are you reading? He goes, I'm not reading. I'm just see the lines. You know that they looking at the tall one ball too. Yeah, and the Modern Day Ticker, which is the Major League Baseball app. And so he was recreating a baseball that was perfect. You know. It's funny though, Brad will do this too. I don't know if you do it on TV. Have you ever come

back from break and they've already run a play? Yeah, and you have to fake like yeah right right now. Brad is really good at doing I'm like, they'll they'll kick off the ball, We'll miss it and and he'll know and it's actually down on the on the field what he's looking at. But he's got to recreate first and second exactly. You know that happened the other day. Now it has second half of the second half. The TV copy was TV late. They don't recall because I

think they were commercial. We lost the signal. Oh that's what. We had a power out it. Oh cheez because of the weather. The weather. I had no idea that it was storming outside. Yeah, we lost the six no awareness that flooded at the ballpark and we were we were calling a football game. That happened to the Rangers last night. The radio broadcast. They did their pregame show listening and listening and then that kind of thirty at night game.

So they came back and all of a sudden, Eric was onto the second bat hurt and I said, you mean they missed the first pitch. But so we had we had power outage. Yes, it was. I looked at my replay off second was a long pass play, four yard pass play as well. Did you recreate that? Uh? We TV can't recreate. We got pictures. You have to go back into replay. Yeah, the whole truck was down. They didn't have the replay because everything was down, we

couldn't record anything. That's the great thing about radio. Right we were It's right, we were talking. How about we head to God's Country? Brian and Oklahoma? Next up, I'm talking Cowboys? Where are you in Oklahoma? Ardmore right? Up by thirty five Jermaine Gresham. Okay. They were speaking to the Arizona Cardinals who are coming to eighteen Stadium on Sunday. Sir, I had a question for y'all about I know everyone's

freaking out about the safety position. Do you think that the Cowboys haven't really been in a hurry to address this because of how good and how deep our linebacker chorps is. Because we've got linebackers that can carry slot receivers. You know, we have, I mean linebackers who can go all throughout the field. And the only safety you really need is that ball hawking center fielder. And I've also noticed that we've been playing Jeffees is kind of a

hybrid linebacker safety. There you go, good eye. So do you think that our strength and how deep we are at the linebacker position, with like Covington and Layton vanderish um. Is this a reason that we're not really in a hurry to go out and overspend for an average safety? And I'll get often I would like to know y'all's opinions about that. Thinking outside nothing wrong with that. The only problem is without Woods, Yeah, you don't have another

really true free safety. They can play single safety hide that you would trust, you don't. Chris Roschard the other day was talking about how versatile Jeff is ability to do that's what they're doing now, They're gonna move him back and have this is this is where this is where I wish they wouldn't do that. This is why you wrote about this to I think that I think

you're taking away a stream. Remember how JJ Wilcox used to play like in Richardson, you know, I mean like during the games, he would play so deep that they would just drive on everything in front and kind of keep things in front of him. I think he could probably do the same things with Cavon Fraser. Jeff Heath is such a valuable as that he's talking about that hybrid linebacker, his ability to cover down low, to come up and fill ball spills the outside. It's it's Smith

it's Lee, it's Heath running to the ball. One of those three guys is going to make a tackle if that edge holds up, you know, and if you, if you, I don't know how many times Jeff Heath will be deep run up, deep run up, deep run up. I'm putting him in position he may play. He's that Heath seeking missile at safe. Wow. Wow, Dave Helmet in the house, late gentleman. I proved his story today. That I proved his story today. He wrote something that I had to

reread like three times. You said that Jeff Heath's instincts around that box area is like a Sean Lee type. Yes, that's a big statement. He's got think about the plays he's made. Two plays he made this last game. It wasn't because he's so fast. He read it. He just reads it. He when you watch, when you watch him and you watch Lee and you watch Smith all run to the ball at the same time, it's like they're reading it together. Yeah, And I think that's Jeff Jeff

Scott speak. Jeff could play as a free safety. Jeff Scott ranged it. But I think he's so because how many plays will he make playing that single high guy how many so as Jeff Heath the Cowboys Andrew Sendejoe. I think he's a faster, faster version of the guy finishes. He's a tackler. We've seen him saved the he saved the Raider game for you last year making a play out the middle of the field. So which which which is? But I hope that it doesn't take him out of

that ability to make plays down low. That's why, that's why I worry out. But here's the thing. If this works out, like maybe they think it's going to you go one week like this, oh, and then their hope is they get Xavier back. The problem is it's a hamstring and you just don't see that. You don't know. No one's got a gun to your head that you have to probably sorry, how much no one? No one is making you play single safety high there you go?

How much that is a fair point, all right? If you're looking at Xavier Woods and you feel like he's gonna be back one hundred percent or close to it by the Giants game, but maybe not the Carolina game. How much is the first opponent factor into any roster decisions that that you're making the type offense that Carolina running. Yeah, that's a great question. And it's a great question because I'm trying to think. I haven't even looked at Carolina yet. I couldn't tell you. And I need I need to

Anderson back to replace. And they got McCaffrey. You throw him a screen. It's a nightmare. You know all that stuff. You need tacklers right play Carolina, you better be able to tak You would want Heath in that position to be able? Yes, I want I want him next to because if if Smith's not gonna make the play, if Lee's not gonna make the play, I think Heath will make the play. And then you got the running threat

with a quarterback too. And again Cincinnati, they played a lot of four four three formation too, with Heath up as a fourth alignement. I just don't you talk coaches talk about putting players in position to make plays. Please do that with Jeff Heath. Please do that with Jeff Heath. I beg you, please, I do. I beg because I don't want to see a player's talent be wasted. And not that he can't play, but how many times does the free safety making a play and that single high

look it's how about Xavier Woods. It's the first time we saw Xavier Woods make a play on the ball, actually, and he got hurt twice in the same game. Yeah, but but what's he do? He plays deep, he runs, he plays deep, he runs, he plays deep, he runs. He missed a tackle, you know, Yeah, I mean that that happens. But I just please don't let thirty eight just die out there just running up the piles all day. Yeah, that's good point. He's the poor man's Day on Buchanan,

who you'll see Sunday night as well, forever. Very talented guy. Yeah, where like a second round pick? No he was, Yeah, he was, he was. But he's at Washington State and he was terrible, a terrible safety, and they played his like a hybrid linebacker. It's really good. Where did he go to high school? Can't give you that one, all right?

Other things that you saw out of practice looking at the coaches film yesterday that Terence Dallas, right, Terrence Williams, Terence Williams with a nice I tell you what he bullied. He bullied Byron Jones a little bit to get inside on that slant. You know, that's something we always talk about Terrence, And what Terrence had to do was ball was a little high because the snap was a little off. Dad grabbed the snap and then fired the ball, but

the ball was high. Terrence had to adjust hands overhead. How many times have we seen him run a slant, it's on the body and it's intercepted. Mickey loves to go that, ah, the ball's clanging off him. You know, Michael Gallop doesn't do that though. You know what signed Jay Law was working with him on catching his hands. I am telling you what. He extended his hands over his head. I saw that that was a good thing. We talked about Robinson's Night's interception. How about a Woozier's

play down the sidelines. He cut speaking to that, Mickey probably got that in your notes. He cuts Gallop off. I mean he stay, Dak tries to look him off. Dak is looking everything to his left and then fires back to the right. And a Woozier keeps running with Gallop down that sideline and puts himself in position. Gallops stumbles a little bit and boom, Ball's intercepted right there. So those are really good things I wrote, go ahead, go ahead. I wrote about the thing I thought with

Covington was on the first team. But Micky says, we got restroom breaks, So that's okay with that. How about some of the heat that the d line brought yesterday. I think we had sacks from to Marcus Lawrence taking Charlton. I think it's two days in a row. He's seeing Jalen Smith gets sent on a blitz and he gets home. I mean they were guys that are quick, gets quick to the ball. Yeah. I think with the linebacker blitz

like Zeke will not block them. Zeke will just kind of get over to him and then but the linebackers have gotten pretty good about just stopping they He picked up one good one yesterday on that deep ball, made the over the headcake and they ran, Hey, how about this guy. It's a little creative. You know, everybody's kind of complaining about they're not creative with the routes they run. They run a McKay inside, bigger body guy. They run

him inside to pick Anthony Brown. They get the pick and they get the ball up the sidelines to Lance Lenore. You know that right there? Okay that people always say, you know, Joe and Flower Mountains a big oh they're no creative. If they don't run picks, why don't they do well? They ran one yesterday and Prescott hit it with Lenora down the sideline. So you know we're starting to see that name. I'm with you once. Okay, six guys, sixth guy or seventh guy. I'm not keeping seven receivers.

I don't care what you guys say. But one of them, not Lock. I'm not doing that man, all right, a Brown, I'm not keeping him. So Lex, we're gonna and Tavon Austin hasn't returned to practice yet. No, no, so Thompson neither. We're going to assumes the fight. That's where the fight's gonna be. Right. We'll see if Sanjia Low have a bit of a stick he's got because if you remember, Thompson showed up in the early part of practice and then he got hurt. I mean he was working with

the first team. He surely was. He might be their fastest receiver. I would give it to Tavon, but he's right there. This is where this team. Sorry, Bill, you keep one to take a breath, and I'm gonna just keep talking. But the thing about what they are going to throw the ball down the field to keep teams honest from stack in the box. That's what they're gonna do. They're gonna try and hit those passes down the field and loosen these teams up. I think you gotta do

is hit one. Hit one's hit one. And the other thing to remember as we cut down the roster is if indeed you got to say, an injured player like Deonte Thompson who's going to be back, let's say in a month, but you're and you're thinking, okay, could he be an injured reserve to return guy, he's got to be on that fifty three man roster right first? Initially, all right, let me ask you this because of and

Nikki doesn't think about David Irban and I don't. Mickey's not wrong there, But do you have to keep the extra defensive lineman? Is that why he's keeping ten because he knows he's gonna it's the tenth lineman gonna get cut when David Irban comes back, I think, or they're going to be injuries. There's quality there, That's what I

was asking. More quality, more quality a wide receiver, or more quality at defensive back, or more quality at defensive line like you said, defensive line, defensive back or wide receiver. What because those are the positions. It's not like here you go heavy in? Am I right wrong? I think you got to think about quality more on the D line because Rod's gonna play all those guys wide receiver. I mean, we talk about Lance Lenor, but is he gonna ddress on game day? Think you might return punts,

kicks something like that. I'm with Bill, I'm trading. I traded for table on Austin for that. Okay, I'm not I understand where you're going there. Who's who's your fifty fourth player? Then what positions your fifty fourth guy? Is it defensive back? So whoever the fifty fourth? If you if if the NFL said no, Mickey, you cannot go with fifty four. You have to Can I go with fifty? Where can I keep it an extra one? Yeah? Where you know you can't keep an next one? Give me

who what position is the fifty fourth guy? See, it's either gonna be wide receiver. Let's say, if they're gonna be defensive line or wide receiver. Yeah, because I've only kept three three tight ends, okay, or two this is or quarterback you're not gonna You're not gonna play leave that's gonna happen. You're not gonna play with all those wide receivers. You're gonna play with those defensive line. That's where Rob's right. All right, guys, gameboy call? Would you

keep two quarterbacks or three? Forget what they would do? What would you do? I would keep three? Okay, all right, so that's out of the equals hard, but I would keep three. Did you keep two running backs? Just too? Just too? The only way I'm keeping two running running is hurt two running backs one fullback. You could we answered a mailback question on this the other day. If you get here and Tammy Scarbough can make it under the practice squad, Yeah, really White who has a better chance?

Oh wait, Scarborough makes it to the practice squad in my opinion, or Mike White, who doesn't make it the practice squad? Um, Scarborough does not make it to the practice squad. Realistically round he Mike White would get picked up eventually? What round? What round did Scarborough get selected? Sorry? Seventh round? Realistic? Gilly, And I'm just looking at injuries around the league at the running back position. How many carries? How many Carries is the third running back and a

get this season. See that's the point I'm trying to make. So like it comes down to me though, who who's gonna help you out? Okay, what happens if your first running back gets hurt, Well that's an issue, but maybe you just gotta go out. That's my guy. Do you rather you got you got, you gotta get Jackson? Or when I have Jackson with those guys in your practice squad?

Yeah right, You know what, we don't get paid enough to make these decisions, but it's sure fun making the decision for them because we don't have to pay the pen over there. Try all right? That doesn't for talking Cowboys. We will shout at you later in the week, like tomorrow, we'll see. This has been a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
