The following is a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club. This he is Talking Cowboys Screaming live from the Dallas Cowboys World headquarters at the Star in Frisco. Here are Mickey Spagnola, Brian Bruns, Rob Phillips, and Bill Jones. It just dawned on me.

This is our final preseason edition of Talking Cowboys. Hey like that Tuesday morning here at the Star in PRIs goe as we get you set for the final preseason practice of twenty eighteen, which is free and open to the public at Ford Center at the Star at eleven am this morning, eleven fifteen is when they on the on the schedule anyway that they say the practice will start, but the doors will be open much prior to that.

If you're in the area, come out and watch the Cowboys practice this morning, and uh, we get you ready for Cowboys Texans and cut down day three o'clock on Saturday. In the NFL. The next time Talking Cowboys proper is together, they'll have a fifty three man roster. Have We don't set that schedule yet. Re I think Rob just unofficially did that, did you officially not do a show on Friday. It's what you're saying, Well, we may be doing joint show. Yeah,

there was so Yeah, it's all combine. There some members of Talking Cowboys, some members of the Break, and I don't want to cut the roster down today. We kind of started yesterday. You know. It's funny. I was on with Nate and Shannon yesterday. You know, I kind of filled in, helped out, you know, with the with their show, and we got into some roster talk again, some of the things that we were talking about. You and I thought Nate was gonna hit me. I went, I went,

Nate three tight ends or four tight ends. He looked at me like, why are you bringing that, you know, and I'm like, whoa, it's roster dog and Nate, Nate wants nothing to do with roster He really really didn't wan anything. Do you want nothing to do with Nate hitting you either? No? Hell no, Nate hit me once, did he? This was in nineteen ninety three in London. The Cowboys played the Lions over in London and the

game was played and then we had to wait. I was on the media, was on the charter coming back and we had to wait for hours after the game and had to go back to the hotel, but we had all checked out of our rooms, and so there's lobby hanging in the liars. We're all in the lobby and waiting for the bus to take us to the

airport to fly out of there. And so we were in the lobby, bar area or whatever, and uh, Nate sees me at one point and about two hours into this weight and just in a playful gesture, sure, he takes his fist and puts it into my chest. And I'm still smarting from that twenty five years later. I mean, but it almost knocked the breath out of them. Yeah, he'll slap you on the back, and it's like a worker's comp type situation, you know. It's yeah, he doesn't

know his own Nate. Yeah, Nate had no idea that now what effect he had. I saw give me a little indication of what those hits might be like it, you know, Yeah, he's got a little punch to him. But yeah, no, it's uh, it's it's always fascinating this time of year when you're trying to figure out how you're going to get this thing down. I mean, that's the that's the you know, they have their ideas. You have your ideas, and sometimes those ideas don't even mesh.

But you know, it's it's what I think it's fun to talk about too. So it's like Nate, Nate doesn't want to talk about the backup quarterback. No quarterback now. And that cause telling Nate when we were watching the game the other day, I always, when we watched games together, always call out at the down and distance to him and you know how much they gain and who gains and all that. It got the second half of the game the other night, and Nate looked at me and guess,

just stop stop. I don't care who. I don't care who's carrying the ball. I don't care. You know. He just said, just stop. So that's okay. I think everybody's looking at their watch at that point. It was funny. I was looking at my watch wondering where the fourth member of our team was at the outset of the show today, and here is Mickey is here. He was right next door. He was You couldn't hear me through the wall. That's why there needs to be a window

in that wall and you can see what's going. But other broadcasting commitment yes, absolutely, follow up the owner on that one. I had to follow up the owner. Yes, absolutely, Yeah. I didn't hear the first part of the owner talking about Randy Gregory, but I assume he continued to say, it's day to day, day to day, right, I don't think anybody other than day to day. I don't know

what you can say. Well, I think it was very irresponsible of Jason locke Offour, you know, if I hate when people throw stuff out like that, especially a national writer who's not around here every day and you kind of don't know the situation, but maybe somebody whispered to you is something that you know that's not factual. Yeah, and that I think that's irresponsible on his part. Well, but he got what he wanted because that bet that's the first time his name has ever been mentioned on

Talking Cowboys. Well, he's usually wrong, and that's I'll mention that as well. But you know, it's it's it's unfortunate. You know, Randy Gregory has a lot of things he's having to deal with and he doesn't need people putting stuff out there that's not I don't believe it's factual.

Excuse me, Rob, if the owner and a general manager does not know the situation, or he doesn't or is not aware of anything else about Randy Gregory, then Jason Lockeforney to shut his damn mouth, you know, because Jerry Jones is going to know what is going on every step of the way with Randy Gregory, you know. And the fact that Jerry Jones has come out and said, I'm not aware of anything you know that I have

you know, well, there are aspects to the program. They're they're confidential that not even the Joneses are necessarily yeah, or a reporter, Yeah, you know, right, but to that point, you're right, they're not aware of anything. But yeah, what Jerry and Stephen even said yesterday and the fan was this is day to day and he's got to he's he's that's his process, that's his situation. It's going to be a fight for him every single day to stay on the straight and narrow. Right now, as far as

they know, he's in good standing. I mean, it's it's day to day. If you're all day to day because of where he is in the program exactly, you've been suspended a couple of times. As I said on the year last night, he's got two and a half strikes against him. He's fighting for his NFL life, right, there's no slip ups. So here's the problem with the NFL's drug policy. Rob used this one. It's supposed to be confidential.

It's not, and it's not. And the reason it's not is because it leaks out of the NFL office and and they're the worst offenders of the whole bit. Right. Um. Number two, you know, there is the possibility that maybe something came up and it's on appeal and no one knows how it's going to turn out, so it's day to day. Uh. And then number three, if if you got something, don't throw mash potatoes at the wall and

hope it sticks. Write the story, put your name on it, right, Don't act like, oh I can throw it out on Twitter and it doesn't matter, right, because it does matter. It does this case, it doesn't matter absolutely mat Right, he's got a website to write on, Yeah, so write the story, right? Uh So yeah, okay, that's I'm off my I mean, Twitter is a is an official forum. It's an extension of a writer's column or whatever. His website is going to be the death of our society.

But it is it is when when you puts it it's as if you printed it in the newspaper. Twitter. It's from a journalistic standpoint exactly. That's the way it's evolved, absolutely. I mean, you have to have substance behind things that you tweet, if you're a credential member of the media, or you don't, well you're supposed to do. Yeah, I just I find it unfortunate. I think you guys, everybody's right. If you've got something, say it, rite it, put it

in black and white, don't don't don't. Just Hey, I'm you know, kind of hearing, you know, kind of hear you know. I mean, there's there's things, there's things that we can talk about, and there's things we can't talk about. We hear things we can't talk about every day every day. But the things that we know, more than half the time, those things aren't true. Yeah, exactly though, So that's why we don't talk about it. We're going to eliminate the

word journalism and it's going to be a communications major. Now. Well that's and it's sad, yeah, but that's But other than that, how you guys doing You got your donuts? Yeah? How about that? Duncan Donuts. Oh wow, I didn't even know. Yes, Duncan Donuts. Yeah you want someone got some donuts. Yeah, Duncan Donuts of DFW came through to day. Personal looks like a g personalized donuts by the way, donuts. I actually had a couple all the way. Yeah, there we go.

That's why I'm yes. But Duncan Donut's a big sponsor with the team, and but they were nice enough to break. Yeah, they would give us some donuts. They personalized, they personalized the donuts. Yeah, have you seen that, Bill, Look, I got a Brian brought us donut in there and ate ate the LSU Tiger donut by the way, just to see what it was like. There is one. Yeah, Brian brought show it at put my hands on it. It's your donut now, Bill, watch out for the orange stuff

though it's yes. But yes, thank you, thank you Duncan Donuts DFW for doing that for us today. We appreciate it. I think I got cowboys that was supposed to be a Missouri Tiger ended up being a green Tiger. I don't know if I've ever seen a green I tell you look pretty good, but was looking look good though it was good at Stags fifty two. Yeah, all right, Um, anything else that you heard from the owner this morning that it's newsworthy. No, if you didn't hear, you said

you didn't hear the Gregory Park. We discussed that. Yeah, it's all this esoteric stuff. Evidently somebody's writing a boat a boat a book and asked Jerry what would he trade in his Hall of Fame for a Super Bowl trophy? And I don't know that's started to wildfire. However, he answered it. And to me, he wouldn't be in the Hall of Fame if he didn't have a desire to win super Bowls? Right, So why the question. It's not like he's going cheap here and not trying. Let's move

on to the regular season. Yeah, how about it? So anyway, that was the other topic here, the safety situation. We kind of know this, but Xavier Woods he thinks he's more likely for week two than week one, indicated that's Cavon Frasier's probably gonna be okay for week one. We'll see. Um, that's the way Frasier put it. As Mickey says, players are always going to tell you they're fine. Um, anytime your shoulder pops out of place, that's going to get

my attention. But we'll see that's that's encouraging at least that they've got a couple of veterans that should be ready to go for a week one at that position, which we documented very clearly yesterday is an issue. Does that keep? Does that keep a Huff on the fifty three? You think? I don't think so, you don't think. Do you think they'll go with the younger guys? I don't know. I don't know what direction they will go in. I mean,

I'm we're going to figure that out today. We're doing something for for the website with the fifty three man roster and kind of go through it. I don't know how you could put Huff on this team after the way he played the other day. Really don't. And I now, does that mean that Robinson and those guys are better? I think that maybe you start off initially you think about Huff, but I sure wouldn't all know what what?

What year is? He four fourth year? So that would mean salary is guaranteed if you have him on and he turns yeah, I just I would be real. I think there's gonna be a couple of spots here on this roster that they're gonna have to be a little creative with. I think Frederick Spot's going to be creative because they have to keep him on for one day if they want to keep him, if they want to put him on IR And I think I think Daytone

Jones is the same way for them. I think Dayton Jones is a guy that they want to keep on the active roster for one day. And so now now you can't now all those things that we were talking about. And I do believe they're leaning towards keeping just six receivers. I mean the seventh receiver. I know I lost my mind yesterday on a couple of different shows, but I think it's more like six receivers. And it's gonna come down to again, like we've talked about a bunch and

it's Thompson or Lenore. But if it's the six guy, I'm getting the feeling that that Thompson's the sixth guy over Lenore. It's kind of what I'm getting that feeling right now. So, uh, you know, we'll see. I haven't got a good feeling on the tight ends yet though that's another position. Here's a question about Frederick and I haven't gotten this answer yet. Could you NFI him? No, No, you can't put him on football injury. He's at once.

He was asking to start once you pass like, yeah, yeah, yeah, the same thing they have, just trying to avoid that deal where you gotta oh he's well, I know he's gonna be on for one day. Okay, your roster is gonna have him and likely Daytone Jones. I'm just thinking if you if you could go ahead and reserve him. I know you can't do it for i R right now, but that would keep you from having to cut a

guy that you'd maybe like to keep. This about Daytone Jones, Yeah, he being an injured player, yes, okay, can you how does it work as far as releasing an injured player, Well, you could waive him injured. It's sign him a six. You can't sign him back once you waive him injured. Okay, then you have then there's have to put him on i R if he clears waivers. Right, but if you want to sign him, you have to cannot release an injured player. You have to waive injury. You have to

wave injured. That's the designation it tells everybody in the league that this guy's hurt. Right, you can't just try and you know that they have rules about waiving injured players. Okay, but the important thing is you can't then resign him. You can't like, if he clears, you cannot resign him, put him on injured reserve recall like you do with Frederick. Right,

you can't jump for ten weeks because it's unlikely. I think it would be unlikely that a team would claim Dayton Jones because he qualifies for the injured for the veteran status, he's not a player. Yeah, See, being on a roster the first week, you could gamble you can claim him thinking that the injury is not more than maybe maybe they're trying to put him through. I mean, someone could have claimed Rico Gathers. But that's why they have the rule that you cannot make him active after

you've waved injured him. Right. That's why you can't use that as a way to stash a player, right, right, Right, I said Rico Gathers. But yeah, they had to keep It's the same thing that they did with Kellen Moore and Rico last year. You had to keep Rico gathers on for one day and then you turn around and

put him on injured reserve and then resigned killing Moore. Well, that's a reason why it's good that they have now two players that you can recall, right because in the old days meeting two years ago, Dayton Jones would be placed on I R and a season would be over. Yeah. And and to me, this is a thing too with Dayton Jones as an eight week possibility is if you do get Randy, if you excuse me, if you get David Irving back, or if you don't get David Irving back,

at least you have somebody like that. It's a long season. It's a long season there. And so are you are you saying you'd rather keep Daytone Jones than jehad Ward? Because I think it's one or the other, don't you? I do, I do and I And it could very well come down to that. But if you if you put if you put uh, if you put Daytone Jones on your active roster, you waive jahad Ward, he clears waivers, you could resign him back. Right. So that's my gamble

right there. I'm gonna gamble that no one's gonna sign Jihad Ward back if that's the case, unless there's another Dallas cowboy team out there that saw him when he was coming out and said, oh we had a high grade Adam, let's claim him and take a chance. So there, but there's gonna be what is jahad Ward's best fit? What defensive scheme is his best fit? Well? I think I think the best that he's played so far is they. I don't think he's a defensive end. I like what

they've done it at defensive tackle with him. I think people will see him as a defensive tackle. I don't think he has three yeah in a four. Three don't see him as a five technique in a three. Bad. That was a bad It's a bad. So the reason I asked that three four teams because Oakland gave up on him. They wouldn't be unlikely, right, I don't think it's I don't think it's a gamble that that that part of it I don't think is a gamble. You know. But well, we'll see this roster could very well have

three guys again. Okay, now you have two injured guys you're gonna have to carry for a day. You're gonna have probably three draft picks. You know that that you know, if you look at you talk about Covington, you talk about you talk about Covington, you talk about Schultz, and then you talk about Scarbarbro. So those are three. So that's five players out of your fifty three that you might say, well, in normal circumstances, might be on the bubble.

Three of those draft picks might be on the bubble if you had if you had position, if you had guys on the on the team that were you know, very that were good, they were better. You feel good about Scarborough? I don't no, I mean making the team. Oh, I do in them, Yeah, because he's a draft pick. See, this is where general managers that don't are not the owners. This is where general managers that aren't the owners protect their draft yeah, because they say, well, I can't keep

cutting guys that I drafted. It's a bad look, you know. Yeah, the owners can be seen, Oh we had seven picks, I cut three of my guys. Yeah, that's a bad look coming to miss time illness. But I think he can help you on special teams. It's gonna come down to him or March Lillard. Well, then they're gonna keep Lillard. Don't you think they keep March Lillard over him? Can't they keep seven veteran guy? It very well could keep seven. That's this some seven wide receivers. No, that's not gonna happen.

I'm only keeping six offensive lineman. Remember Nicky, Nicky always keeps fifty. I just you know, they they and visit with some folks. They know the situation at offensive line. They know they have to go get some guys. They know that. But the problem is, I just mentioned it. You gotta keep You're gonna have to keep some guy. This roster is gonna look really funny on Sunday, and then they're gonna turn around on Monday and Tuesday and hopefully get it right right, that's what you you know

with the claims. And I mean, so you think the roster at three o'clock on Saturday, how many offensive linemen will be on the fifty three man roster? I think eight? You think eight? So you think but they better not go buy a house, right? Yeah? Yeah? Kadeem Edwards and then Cam Fleming. I talked to a team last night about Cam Fleming, talked to the alb Minute, I talked to the New England Patriots. Talk to the Patriots about Fleming,

I'm like, they have some history with him. They do, and they said, you know what we had to do. We had to help him, We had to, we had to. We protected him. We put a tight end over there. Yeah, put a tight end over there. You slide a guard his way, protecting the forty year old quarterback. He's the best quarterback in the history of the game, no doubt, no doubt. That's interesting because I mean, look, his resume is starter right tackle, Super Bowl? Yeah, New England Patriots.

Oh no, you could say that. You're thinking when you when you initially went and got him, you're thinking, man, this guy started in an AFC championship game, he started a Super Bowl. Starry gets Philadelphiagles, wasn't terrible. But you talk to the Patriots guys and they're like, you know, how's how's Cam Fleming doing for you? And I described him as the fifty fifty player, which I always have, and they go, well, you know, we helped him a lot.

We had to help him. He's he's like you said, he's sometimes he looks really good and other times, you know, the technique seems to go away. And I said, well, you had to get around that. They go, you help him, you put a tight end over there, you slide a guard over his way, but you help. Everybody in the league felt the same way about him, and that's why as a free agent he only got one million dollars guaranteed.

And and you knew what New England thought because they didn't try to bring him at right after losing and they lost eight soldier too. But that just shows you how precarious depth is at that position. It's almost like you could have drafted a guy just to play develop. Oh wait, that's Chaz Green three years ago. Right, Is he better than Chad's Green? Maybe? See, that's all you're that's all you're trying to do as a personnel department now, and you're trying to try Yeah had last year? Yeah,

is he better than Byron Bell? Start for the Packers? Byron Bell? After that? Sakie gave up the other day. And I don't know, I don't know, but that's what I'm saying. You're you're what your your your goal is to try and get a better you know, it's a goal this year too. You got to get a better Kideem Edwards if he's the eighth guy. You gotta get a you're looking at all these positions. Give me whoever my last guy is at every position, Give me a

better guy, Find me a guy. Now, they've had some I've had some fortune where they've they've hit the right guys. They've also had some terrible missus. You know, with the pro personnel stuff. It looks like, you know, Joe Thomas looks like a hit. Yeah, but they've had some. They've had some. How about all the Nolan Carroll, all those guys that you know, Paia, Yeah, those are all missus, bad missus. Yeah. Well he got hurt now still he was banged up. He had a condition when he signed here.

Yeah yeah, I mean he was on the last legs of his career, literally last leg. Yeah. But that's that's where when this roster is gonna look really strange. We're gonna dissect it on Saturday and then we're gonna go. But but but be aware, that's not going to be the roster, and that is not going to be the roster. Beautiful thing. When it comes to looking at that waiver wire there, it will definitely be some roster flexibility on the bottom. Well, That's why you can keep six offensive linemen.

I'm telling you, though, they need to be aggressive with some trades if they can't as well, I mean to me, I I'm trying to help this thing right now. Let's get into that as continue here on talking Cowboys, give us a call at eight eight eight eight five five two two nine seven. Anyway, as much as I need a guard here, I might not trade my Tommy john for that. Always the Jimmy Johnson trade with David Shula, remember Cincinnati, Yeah, since it like a six pack twelve Yeah, it was like that. I can't remember who was involved in that trade. He wanted to him he wanted a twelve pack for some some Heinekens player or something or

a Hanne Country. Yeah, he was, I'm just gonna happen. You can have him. Yeah, I can't remember the players. He said, we can't do that. Cincinnati's a tough team to trade with. By the way, she thought that Jimmy had something up his sleeve that yeah, like he's trying to put Of course he did. Jimmy and his Heinekens. I always state since the day that yes, yes, Switzer, it was a week of the Big Girls game in

Switzer naughty. I guess he's at ninety four. And he said, well, you know, playing Cincinnati, it's kind of like playing I always state. Don't get those kind of comments. And this filtered. There was a very tense exchange after that game, a very firm handshake from you. Ben's into Switzer and said unkind things to Switzer about I always state after that game then I was stayput Oklahoma last year? Oh no, yeah, yeah, I do it again this year. This was twenty four

years ago. Yeah, yeah, but yeah, that was where I always state, was I always that's when I was stay was I was? I know what you're talking about. All right. You posed a question just before the break that I can't remember what was my trades? Maybe no, I was. I was just the Tommy John thing threw me off of three off. I'm sorry, No, you know you were. No, I say there could be trade. No, No, I think they no. I think they have to. I think they

have to entertain that possibility. I don't know. I'm as much as I love to play the waiver wire and and do things with the roster, I think that you're you're better off identifying players two or three players and say that and then saying, let's see if we can go get this guy. Let's see if we can go get you can give people conditional picks for these for these players, yeah, you know one of your players exactly.

It's it's just not like going to you know, Earl Thomas is a little bit more of a little bit more involved. But if you're trained for other players, people will take conditional picks. However, you do have a surplus of wide receivers, right, Yes, we think we think you can trade from that surplus for maybe a backup offensive lineman. I'm thinking, I'm thinking if anybody has one, I'm thinking, Bill and guys, we have to go a little bit. We have to go a little bit stronger with our

trade proposal to get an offensive lineman. To me, I rack up wide receiver. It's less of a premium spot. You know, you can go find a backup receiver more than an offensive lineman. I mean, I wonder how I'll ask you this. I'll just throw this out here. I like, Alan hearns myself. Yes, and then we're gonna get in trouble doing this. But go ahead now, I mean trading one. I mean that'd be like trading in a seventh round draft choice. I talked because they know you're gonna cut them, right,

I talked to Yeah, I'm not telling anything. You already don't know. Jacksonville is hunting wide receivers right now. A matter of fact, why I had Mickey said yesterday that Gil Brandt says of Jacksonville has a surplus of offense. I had a team, had a team called me and asked me about Dez Bryant. You know what I thought about Dez Bryant? And I said, well, who else you? Who else? You guys bad? And they say, oh, Jacksonville. Jacksonville is hunting receivers right now. I imagine. So they

lost Marquis, Yeah, they're looking at your cuts. So whoever you put out there? And they lost Alan Robinson and Alan Hearns agency. Yeah, And so be prepared if you're a team that's gonna put a wide receiver out there, and we think the Cowboys are. We think they're gonna put a wide receiver out there that potentially that's not potentially had a really good had a good summer if it's Lance Lenoor, So don't don't expect to get Lance

Lenore back. If they're a value weight and tape and Jacksonville was here, I went and looked at the when I was at the stadium, since now agame, I looked and watched the teams that were that were in attendance, scouting the game. Jacksonville was one of those teams. So just I keep you know, if you're gonna put a guy out there that had some productivity this summer, you're probably not going to get him back. But that's football, you know. But hopefully you could take what you need

and maybe you can move. Maybe you can move lancellanor maybe somebody doesn't want to fight for Lancelnor. Maybe Jacksonville doesn't want to fight. Maybe they've a value. Yeah maybe maybe, like Mickey said, you could take one of their you know, it means enough to them to get a quality wide receiver. For okay, we'll take one of your quality offensive linemen.

Maybe that's he doesn't turn into Jimmy Smith in Jacksonville one of my favorite players, one of my favorite players I've ever been around, Jimmy Smith as a Jacksonville ninety eight. That guy was. I know we had a lot of issues with the with the cocaine and stuff like that, but my gosh, what a great player. So going back to the Dez thing, you think teams are thinking, well, let's sign him after the first game. We don't have to get his base salary, and maybe you could give

him a better base salary. Than you would have the first week. I think Des is holding for the Saints. I really do. I'm just I'm throwing it out there. I think he's holding. I think he's got one team in mind. He talks about getting himself right and all that's great, you know. I'm glad for him that he's trying to physically feel better, work out, do what he needs to. But I think he's holding for Sean Payton.

I think it's been smart once he got to training camp in the preseason game, sure, I think it's been smart on his part to wait it out and wait for injuries to occur. We just saw Jacksonville now in the market. Now, he may not be a fit there because of Kauflin, he might not be a Coughlin type player. Sure, whatever, But any I think he's smart going through the first week of the regular season now because teams would be leary,

you know, because of the reputation. Teams are asking about him because that a team called me last night just want to know who gets hurt, yeah, and see who has needs and then um and just be ready to go. And Cleveland's notice and Cleveland was doing their due deal and since they called people here too to ask about him. Yeah. Absolutely, So there's you know, there's plenty. But you know, if you're gonna be be aggressive with your trades, target two

or three guys that you might like. He's saying, Okay, if those guys get to the waiver wire, we're not going to be able to get to them. And they have done this in recent years. They did it with Bryce Butler after I think Daz got hurt Week one, fifth round pick Tiger, Yeah, target Bryce Butler, Matt Castle a quarterback when Romo got hurt? Was that right? Yeah, Brian Price a year ago? I think right? Didn't they

flip a pick Green Bay? So you're right. I mean you can kind of control the situation more as opposed to, like you said, either or fighting a vest and veteran who can go wherever you want. I would spend a fifth round pick on an offensive lineman absolutely, who could play whoever. Yeah, I mean, let's remember what was the what was the monterrack going into the draft. We can't have Atlanta happen again. Yeah, well you're setting yourself up to have it happen again. No, I don't disagree with you.

They're Micky a fifth round pick is and someone if you're going to move along from a guy at a fifth round pick, is you're excited about that, you know you're you're excited about getting The problem is not giving up the fifth round pick. The problem is finding the player player that's worth that team is willing to give up. Yeah, but that's what you have to do. You have to

you have to identify. Okay, if you look at a team and you say, this team has got three they got two extra guards and an extra tackle, or they got one extra guard and an extra tackle. Now you got to pry that guy away. But you gotta make it worth their while. You know, you can't just say, hey, listen, we'll give you a conditional seven in two thousand and

twenty that that that's not gonna get it done. Like Micky said, You're gonna have to You're gonna have to part with a premium pick or part with a premium player. Or maybe it's a veteran guy that used to be a starter that a young guy's taken his spot. Sure they might be cutting him and you don't want to have to to battle wire that never want to battle the waiver wire for really good players. They used to use the waiver wire for like depth, to get depth position.

If you're gonna trade for a guy, you're trying to get a potential starter, is what you're trying to do. Because even even an offensive line, because we've seen, we've seen what's happened, you know, they we've had injury at the offensive line, especially the left tackle. Yeah, and ironically he's probably been arguably the healthiest of the bunch other

than Connor Williams. Yeah, elk Lyle has been okay, but Zach usually is in Travis, they haven't missed the game their entire career and now you know it's yeah, so uh now Tyrant does have the hamstring though, like you gotta, you gotta show it up or at least try to. And the safety. You can't ignore a safety, No, I mean you You've got two guys that you trust out there, I think, and one of them is got the shoulder that you don't know and whatever happens if he goes down,

you have um, Tyree Robinson out there. Cam Kelly, Yeah, Huff see that, And you asked me about Huff. Yeah, they might that, Mickey, They might very well keep Huff on the team just because he's been around the block, and I wouldn't because again I look at his I look at his four years and you have to give up, you know, and not that he's making huge amounts of money. Seven h five. Yeah, but still it's money, you know.

I supposed to four eighty for the yeah, rookie free agent, but I feel I would feel better playing Robinson then I would huff. Just from what I've seen from huff our fan pulse on the app right now, I just asked the fandom, what's the bigger issue right now? Depth offensive line? Safety? Seventy two say safety, but to me, it's fifty fifty right now. Joe and Flower Mound wants that guy so bad in Seattle, Joe and Flower Mound that Joe and our amount will go from go from

this is a terrible team too. It's a it's a super Bowl run if you get that guy in. And I think people need to understand when we say depth at safety, we're not talking about making that joke. That's not what the question is. Trying to get bodies and just need some bodies that kind of know their way, like where the fifty yard line is. Let's get better than bodies Yeah, let's get guys play play. Yeah, give me be be a guy that can play. You know, I would take I'd love to have a JJ Wilcox right now.

What I know about JJ Wilcox. I'd love to have a JJ Wilcox. And this team you need somebody like that, you need anybody. Pick him up after words, J Wilcox, Now I thought he had gotten to release him up? Where is he in? Got somebody's in Pittsburgh right at one time, at one point, at one point Pittsburgh And now I lost track of him after that. But I mean, he's not out of the league. He's with a team, and you know, maybe he or Jets he's your yet, Okay, thank you. To get a lot of safeties up there

at the Jets too. Then they dropped back to back safety LSU Guy Adams and someone else. Can't you get their depth chart by any chance? The Jets? Yes, please, I'll pull it up. Yeah, they've got all they drafted back to back safeties. Yeah, in a draft just recently, I say, Adams from lashues up there, I should first round pick six pick in the draft last year. Yeah, he run high school absolutely, but oh line, the argument is you've got more positions across that unit to look

at depth more than as opposed to safety. You need a backup center to Joe Looney. Right now they have Wilcox as their third string free safety. Yeah, okay, you need to make sure that your swing tackle is in order. Backup guard. I mean what we talk about, they got five six offensive line. Who's the backup center that's said that? Yeah, that's see, that's the bigger That to me is a huge question because you had the luxury before of having a swing backup center guard that saved you a position

on the forty six. Right now you don't have have that. Yeah, and you would have to use two, and then you'd have to have a So now you're gonna have to keep eight offensive lineman if you don't find a guy that can do both. See, that's some same Andre Gerard. The Marcus Martin thing kills him too. Defense, right, Marcus Marcus Martin was your he could have done both. He was the backup to Joe Looney. I mean he was the guy that played both. Yeah, but it's just Dave.

That's that's a tough spot. Would you give up one of these defensive ends? Would you give up would you give up one of these? Would you give up a Dorn's Armstrong? I know you just got him. Would you give it if it meant getting somebody? No? Too early for that one. No, because for a backup center. This is where Mickey and I agree, because I feel like when you do finally feel like you have a wealth

in a position. Yeah, I'm not gonna trade you Charles Tapper because I don't think any babill to take Charles tappin. But that was my next thing was, Okay, who else has any trade value that you would be willing to part with? And I just, I just there's no reason for a team to trade for Tapper because they're going to expect your best debt, your bets. Trading pieces are likely in the secondary at corner. Those are your best trading pieces. Am I wrong? You mentioned you mentioned Brown

and Lewis? Yes, Okay, let me ask you that I mentioned Brown and Lewis yesterday. Are Brown and Lewis better than any of the wide receivers as far as trading pieces? From what you know about watching this football team depends on which wide receivers? Well, I think I do think a team could look at Jordan Lewis and say, this guy could have been a second round pick last year. He's playing maybe out of scheme here, Sure he's maybe he's just not a good fit for them, but he

might be for us. Nicky doesn't want to give him up, but I but yeah, I love him as a player. So him or Brown pick one. No, I'm not giving up either one of them. I can't do it because the minute I do it, I'm gonna get it injury. And then I don't know what you're doing. What are you doing if I playing Nickel, who's your backup center? Well, I understand that I can't staying if you if you told me right now, I'm from a cornerback pool, see then that and then we're probably host. We're probably host

because we're getting yah. See that's I don't like that attitude. And and I'm not I'm not busting on you, No, I'm just not. I'm just not taking from the cornerback inventory because what if a Woozier or Byron Jones gets hurt, Well, that's I'm giving you. You're gonna give me one. You're gonna have to give me one. You have to give me Lewis or Brown No, No, I'm That's what I'm saying. I'm not giving up either one of them because I

need them both. Yep. I need them more right now than I need a or down the road than the center guy gets hurt, Brown or or Lewis have to unless you get unless you have another option on the roster. Who's my who's my Nickel? One of these? Because I haven't seen anything unless you like Thomas Ward. No, you're gonna You're gonna probably keep one of those guys. You're probably gonna keep a Ward. I guess, yeah, I guess the fall off from Lewis to Ward. Yeah, what's the

fall off from Lewis to Brown? What's the fall from Brown? But one of them has to start, is what I'm saying. Right, And you need three. You gotta have three starters essentially, and you and the other one play back up for three positions. Did they play Xavier Woods at Nickel last year? Nickel Corner? They did in the slot went and when he's healthy week two? Right there, let's see you. It's I'm just reporting what the owner said. I didn't say.

Well back sounded very dooming gloom right now about the Xavier Woods playing well here on the back on the cornerback, all right. The reason that that fourth cornerback has more value than the backup center, and my opinion is because he's backing up three positions. Okay, you got three chances for injury, right, sure, you got one chance for injury

at center or whatever. Play the odds. Now you can come back at me and say you got three chances for injury and that offensive line, because there are two guards you're starting, you gotta find the guy that could do both. You're starting a center that has never played sixteen games. A bird in hand right here. Then, I'm not gonna give up because I don't know what I'm

getting over. To answer your question, the backup to the center right now is probably Zach Martin, who's coming off his own injury, and you'd like to keep him at right guard. So, yes, Brian, there's an issue. There's a depth issue there, there's an emergency backup. There's an emergency break about to happen. We need to take a break, right okay, And whatever Brian has on his mind right now, tue it here in a moment. Give us a call at eight eight, eight eighty five, five to two nine seven.

Yeah, let me ask you this real real quick. Bill. You you wear makeup when you do TV. I have to put some bass on what they call base so when you go home. Oh, I got it right here, let me find it. No, it's not other guesses max Factor, No, not max Factor, kender Scott, I don't know better than that. The girl, Yeah, right,

that's it. It's cuzy, breezy, beautiful bit right here. I just bought a new one, did you there it is? Yeah? You got a the season right, put it on like that shine right that you? Fortunately, I have usual, especially in the summer time. I've got a good tan going. Yeah, so I don't outside. Yeah, I found this stuff that was It was called anti shine and that's all it was. And it kind of kept your your forehead that's your personal greasy. Yeah, anti shine. How about we go to

Peyton and Minnesota. Come on help us out Peyton, Peyton, Hi, guys, don't kill me too much over this question. Um, so I actually went to the University of Saint Helens where

John Snider went and Minneapolis questions. Yea, Minneapolis. Yeah. So my question is, um, would you trade, like I know you guys are sick, Earl Thomas Chocolate, would you trade Taco Charlton and a third round take for old Thomas which would allow Xavier Woods to be your fourth corner and backup safety, and then trade Anthony Brown for a backup center. Thanks. I'll tell you what, imagining that would be pretty impressive if you could pull that off. But you know what, Hey, I'm I'm I'm a big fan

of out of the box thinking. I really am. It would be tough. I think the wow it's I mean, these guys were just arguing, not arguing. These guys were discussing not giving up on rookie guy. I mean like the Jordan Lewis is. Yeah, yeah, you don't want to see you don't want to give up on Taco yet. But but if it got you Earl Thomas, he said, a third round, I'm not giving up, okay with the third two? Yeah, you just you just would like to give up the third right, I would just give him

keep the third, keep the third. Now, let's talk about the Minnesota part of the trade, right or did he he's from Minnesota. What you're giving up with Taco, you're giving up who's playing first round, your first round pick from last year, who has four years of eligibility left under your se That's why I mean again, it's out of the box. He qualified that. I appreciate that. It was thinking though it was going into his fourth year

or going into his third year. Yeah, if Taco was, if Tacco was Charles Tapper is am I right about it? Where he is in the league, where in the league. But what they have to do is protect themselves because then you got to play. What if what if rand David Irving? What if there's no Randy he felt great about Randy Gregory, I would be okay, Yeah, yeah, Taco. If Taco was a second round pick and you only had control of three more ye more years instead of

four more years, right then that's something to think. See. But he's but he's trying to do it with a player I understand. But no, no, no, I'm not no, I'm not explained to you. I'm just yeah, he's trying to get he's trying to get a big time player for a player that you feel like is developing. I'll use that word developing for you to have great value

to Seattle. And then you turn around and get Anthony Brown for the center, right, But then that takes you, guys out of those right back to my problem with doing that in the first place. You guys do not want to give up the corner. Well he's banking, he would say, Xavier Woods back to where he was nickel corner. And then who's your fourth corner? And then Mickey's depth is hurting again at the corner, so well, no, he's got Xavier Woods playing the corner. Well behind that, though,

then then what do you have you're back to? And see, that's the thing is you gotta gotta give up a little depth somewhere to add where you're really hurting somewhere else. The argument, what position leaves you most vulnerable? Of all the things they need? What position leaves you most vulnerable?

Because it's not free safety. I think it's the offensive line right now, I really, I really do, because as I said again, it's three different spots you could look at and say, something happens here, what do you do well? The thing. Whoa whoa wait, whoa whoa? What just happened? You sit offensive line and I'm trying to trade a guy to get an offensive lineman. But you don't want to do But I don't want to give up where I have some but security. But here's what we need.

We need to know what player would trade. Can I trade the third for the offensive lineman? Yeah? Because very safety doesn't make me vulnerable. Yeah, you better be able to identify who that offensive lineman is. He's got to be almost starting quality center to the center and Joe Looney can go back to his his whole job. Well if he could be, if he could be, he could joey out. Yes, if it's a situation where you've got a wrong Leary type talent as your backup, I'm good

with that. I'd flip them. What's what's he doing these days? Ron lo He is pretty entrenched there, he's starting. Yeah, you know what hear what you're saying, Brian, I know what you're saying. Gosh, you guys, I mean you gotta give up something. See, But yeah, I was I was with you guys on what was going on here about the corners? You guys made really good points about the corners. We'll get trade a draft he drade a player. Would you rather trade a draft toys for Earl Thomas or

for an offensive lineman? Oh god, it sounds like you would rather trade it for an offensive mine. Yes, I think you're desperate for depth at offensive line, but that's a different you're talking. You're talking about a dynamic All Pro player, talking about a starting offensive lineman. Because all right, how about somebody's sixth guy? Although do they have a better feel for where Frederick is than the rest of us do? I am playing this right now as we speak.

If he's not kind on a Tuesday morning as he's not going to play this year, okay, And I'm trying to protect myself in case something goes awry with Joe Looney. If you do I r Travis at the start of the season after cuts, then that's eight weeks minimum, right, right, so that's at least half then even in that regard, Yeah, offensive line, you're more worried. I'll let me ask you this, well, you gotta you more worried about backup to Travis to

Tyron Smith or the backup to Travis Frederick both Okay? Now, giving up my fifth. No, No, which one do you worry about the most? Tyrn Smith or Travis Frederick? At least backup right now? For body I could put there, I have no nobody can play center right, Yeah, there's no center at least like you said, Cam Fleming. Put him out there, give him some help. You can at least do that or something. Jack Rabbit, Yeah, Jack Rabbit. Bill's gonna be announce him as a starter, and so

Brad on Thursday night he will be. Yeah, there's no question you will. There's no question playing Joe right Thursday. Oh can't. Good luck Cooper. He's not only he's not only the starter. I'm handing the ball off every snap. I don't care starter and the finish we're gonna run the ball fifty five times a skame. Can they come up with a reason just they can't make it there? You can't play the game. They got to sign No, no, don't go there. Don't They have to sign a center

right now to get through the game. Thursday. Probably his Stanton went down. Yeah, we ever get an up? They no one even asked about poor Stanton. He looked bad. It looked awfully bad. He can't play Thursday, and so we're gonna find out that Jason Garrett's press conference coming up in a matter of moments, and you're gonna ask that question. Signing a center, Yes, some center off from Copelle High School. Yeah, Joe Looney banged his hand trying to make a tackle at the end of the first half.

He kind of need his hands, Nate said. Nate said yesterday, it's like, Joe, don't be tackling people. It's his first tackle since high school. Yeah, he said his forms a little off. So yeah, I wouldn't play him on Thursday. All right, So we're more worried about this. We're worried about We're not worried about the backup to Tyrants. Oh yes we are. But but I have to have a body, just a body, body exactly. We're gonna trade fine then

and then we'll help out Cam Fleming. I'm telling you, you you could trade a player for that lineman, and we could trade a pick for the safety. Okay, I think, okay, but you guys don't want to go with me on these players I'm trying to I was okay with one of the wide receivers, good with trading one of those corners. If you're talking about a starting interior lineman, you're not giving him a starting corner, are you? No? Possibly? Well, if you can see, yeah, I guess you. I mean

it's your Nickels starter. Yeah, I want to the two. If you guys call me up, I am gonna hold you up. I am call you up for what for a player? You want my starting guard or my starting center or my my my, you want my sixth guy? Yeah, I'm gonna hold you up from one of those players I need. I'm not gonna let you just gonna go. Well, here have have Charles Tapper. I don't disagree with you because I said at the start of the show, I don't think you can necessarily flip a backup receiver on

this roster for a starting caliber offensive lineman. You're talking about a premium position versus one that's not draft choice. How many how many compensed story picks you think they'll get next year? Who do they lose? Who do they lose? Who is everybody? Hitchens is gonna get you the best pick? Hitchens could probably get you a fourth. And I'm still not buying that Bryce Butler starting for the Cardinal. You might you might get two next year you might get

a four and a seven. Yeah, maybe not like you did last this past Yeah, you lose as much this pass, ain't losing. Who else? You lost some guys to the Raiders Keith Smith, but then he signed Old Wally. Yeah that's why that's a washwah. I think the best you're going to get out of this thing is a fourth round pick, maybe a fifth. It might be a fifth. I'm just trying to think, how much ammunition do you have next spring? If I knew I was gonna have a fifth round pick, I'll give you a fifth round

pick for an offensive lineman. We all, we all agree to that, Yes with you there? Yes? All right, yeah, cut the deal. Here's the deal. Next time we reconvene, it will be the regular season. As a group, right, as a group, we think now we think we're gonna have a combined show on Friday of something and possibly tomorrow too. Oh and possibly Wednesday. We got tomorrow. We have a luncheon tomorrow, the lunch. The most significant days of the preseason are straight ahead Labor Day, three o'clock

Central time on Saturday. Enjoy the rest of you. Hey, thanks Duncan. This has been a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club
