The following is a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club. This he is Talking Cowboys, screaming live from the Dallas Cowboys World headquarters at the Star in Frisco. Stay here are Mickey Spagnola, Rob Phillips, and Bill Jones, and welcome into Talking Cowboys inside the SWBC Mortgage Studio. Rob Phillips hosting for Bill Jones on this Thursday, as the Cowboys get back to practice, getting

set for those new England Patriots. Mickey Spagnola to my right, the Great Everson Walls joining us once again this week in studio and back by popular demand once again Lindsay Podcast Live. But what uh, I'm so glad to be with you guys. Frightens my day. I've brought my coat. If you're not watching, h I am wearing a big furry camo coat so you can't technically see it. She's the only one that dressed appropriately for the studio. Nice box in here. I'm not gonna lie. I don't think

that thermostat works over it doesn't. It doesn't. We'll take it in working on it and it's you know, I turned it up again? Yes, Okay, now you know why we started eleven the thermostatu. He's always got something ever so or a walk off and it takes too long. Yeah, you learn anything in that walk off? I did, Garrett? Would you learn? I learned that Connor Williams did surprisingly well in practice after having his knee scoped only a

week and a half ago. It's wild and that if he has another good day to day and tomorrow, he's your starting left guard. So as long as he's healthy, get his job. He's healthy enough to function in the game and play well. If he has another good day or two, he's your starting left guard. What you think about this, bags, I have to say, you know, I love this offensive line and I think Connor is still

learning his craft. I agree with that. I think that this NFL game is tough, and especially down in the pits, and this guy's really learning a lesson. Hopefully his peers, you know, the Fredericks and the Martins and the and the Smiths would have shown him. You know, this is how the professional way to handle this, because right now, if you're going to attack that offensive line, then they seem to always try to attack the young kid, right and he's been learning a big lesson this year. Yeah. No,

I think he learned even bigger lesson last year. But I thought when he came back after his injury last year, he played much better than he did prior to that. And now he's a little stronger, a little bigger, and he's no longer twenty one years old. Yeah. Yeah, imagine being twenty one years old and going into that pit with grown men, you know, well, when you could have been playing another year of college. Yeah, that's true, and

he was young coming out. But Lenz, I mean, I think part of it's the expectation too on the offensive line, because how many guys have they had step in right away right away, but make the Pro Bowl, make all pros, Zack Martin, those guys they were all first round picks too. It's hard to live up to that. And when they signed him, I'm sure he felt that pressure. I mean, you know, he wasn't just crying because he was happy, you know, we're doing the draft. I'm sure he was crying, like, man,

these guys are they're the best. At that time, they were the best unit overall in the league. I don't know if that's the best unit now, but at that time, they were the best unit. Who would you call the best unit right now? Offensive line? I just think maybe this offensive line is changed. I mean sometimes I get so hung up on Zeke's numbers and penning that on them.

But then when it comes to pass blocking and the way Dak is hanging out back there, maybe they've I don't know how much evolving that means they've done ever since. Like no, most offensive linemen, they love to go forward. That's their thing that they're already down there, they're already

leaning forward. I mean, it's so difficult to go from, you know, being in that position and then all of a sudden, now you've got to lift all of that weight, all that torso up and get back and you've got this guy leaning forward, will coming that you coming around the end, and he's getting the sack and two point eight seconds like d Law. You know, that's tough for

a big man to do. But they seem to be better at pass blocking than they are well I'm blocking, yeah, And you know, I don't know how that comes about. I know that it's it was tough going up against those Vikings. That was a raw, mean group of deepness in line. Right that would have been the first time I've seen, and they played it pretty straight. It's not like they overst it's anything, and they gave the Cowboys trouble.

I think there's two games that have been like that this year, the Minnesota game and the New Orleans game that Saints front right was really active against him. Lenz made a great point because Travis Frederick said yesterday, you gotta look at the whole body of work the game last week. They're not where they want to be, necessarily in the run game, even though I think teams are

trying to do some extra stuff to stop them. Well Detroit did, but when you look at five hundred and nine total yards, you got to look at the whole thing and say, it's a pretty good day for us blocking. And he's still only been sacked twelve times as opposed to honestly everything that says everything. There were so many times last year six DAC was on the ground, and so many I don't want to say so many, but few of his fumbles just came from getting absolutely lasted,

pummeled and blasts. Let's not forget the Jets game where he just got I really thought they should have thrown at least two flags on the d lineman for just pummeling him into the ground after he's thrown the ball. So we're talking about the sacks not you can't even calculate the hits, right. I mean when I say hits, I mean slams, crashes, Yeah, collisions, you know it. I know officials are trying to get the call right, but it kind of reminds me of Lebron or Shack, Like

I'm not calling anything. He's an unusual quarterback, I feel saw and that's why where he is right and it's say, yeah, Dak's taking a ton of huge hits. Yeah, I got to say. And has he missed the game? He is not. Has he missed the play? He's missed maybe a couple. He went into the tent he was heated, Yes he did. He did not want to go in. That's the first

one I've seen him. Like, we look at this world now, so many things going on with politics, not just so much stuff going on, And to me, uh, I guess I'm just the old dude. But well, when you think of where the city has come, where the Dallas Cowboys have come as an organization, you have a young black man who is the face of the Dallas Cowboys. I played here, Okay, that is something that I never really thought i'd see to where, of course, you see a

guy playing quarterback. We had Reggie Caller who came in and one of the best athletes you ever wanted to see on a basketball court, football field. He was just amazing. But he was not built the way Dak is builds. And now don't mean physically, I mean inside. You know, his soul, his his his his character, all of that. You know, to have this kid as the face of the Dallas Cowboys, that's something that you never would have

thought of even ten years ago. And the way he's handling it is very unique because Jerry hadn't paid him. Everybody's gotten paid, not just Jerry, the entire league ones paid. Wentz has his money. Dak's back get kicking buck off. Yeah, everybody's got the money. They're playing like Colap. He hadn't gotten his money and he's playing amazing. And so now you have, you know, Jerry, it seems like the only person that doesn't realize that Dak is the face of

this organization. He's getting more money and endorsements than his salary. I'm pretty sure of that number one new one basis, what two million this year or something like that. Yeah, ments, yeah, a new one. I didn't know he was doing that sleep number Mattress. Yeah, you cannot watch a game without at leasting two dark commercials. During the commercials, at least two. He's everywhere. So so so then okay, let's say this

year goes on. Let's say we have this year and all of a sudden, we we make the first round playoffs, lose whatever, or you know, don't even make it. God for bit uh and Dak continues to play well, so you know it was the money. Yeahually everybody knows. Everybody's paying him, right, endorsements, everybody's paying him. But Jerry, maybe that's why he's not in a hurry to sign. He's just gonna keep holding up for more. That's crazy. He's

making all this other stuff on the side. It'sn't the narrative. I got to hear that narrative. I mean, why why don't you just go ahead and pay the guy? He is get being paid by everyone he and when he's on the commercials. It's not like they've got some dummy uniform. You know, this is the Dallas Cowboys this is our gear, he's our guy, So you would think that the it's it's a foregone conclusion that you're going to pay him.

Just go ahead and name said it's been the small I mean, I was one of those who put my name out there and said it's gonna get done before the season starts. I thought I was gonna get done during training camp. I was wrong. And but they've said over and over it's the littlest things. And I would just love to be a fly on the wall to find out what is it the smallest thing that you guys can't get this done. I mean, they keep saying it's the smallest thing. I keep hearing that he turned

down thirty. Is that true? That's what I mean. There's been so many different things. He's asking for forty and they want to give him thirty, and they want to give him thirty or you know, and maybe that's where the new commercial came from. And you know how it is. It's about the guaranteed money too. So you can make forty million a year, but if only twenty seven and a half is guaranteed like these other guys got, then

you know that's that's where it's at. So, and there's been other deals that have gotten done with other other quarterbacks that have probably shifted the market and all that. But yeah, I mean I think he's betting on himself to some degree, Mick, I don't know if he's betting on himself. I think they look for the pot at the end of the rainbow. Well, he could have he could have probably settled for another deal, right while his guys could have yeah, the same thing. Yeah, right, yeah,

but yeah, it's it's hard, You're right everything. I think at some point it's coneclusion. He's the guy. I know there's talk he might get franchise. I don't know. I think they could definitely come to an agreement before it comes down. And then I heard he's thinking, Okay, pay Coop first, let's make sure we show up some of the guys that I'm gonna be throwing too. Yeah. I heard that as well. So hopefully that that that's a very noble way to go. Hopefully that's the way he's

going right now. Yeah, anything on the subject we started with with Connor Williams, what else stands out to you about the injury report for Dallas Well Collins will not practice again today? Oh, boy, and you know, they're still optimistic. But again, I think he has to do something more than what he's been doing to be able to say, Okay, he can play on Sunday. I think they were pretty

hopeful that he could. He basically resprained the MCL in his right knee that he hurt before, so there was some thought after the game that well, maybe it's not as serious as it was, or maybe, you know, because of who he is, he can play through it. But I would imagine he's got to do a little something before they put him out there. So yeah, you keep an eye on that one. Joe Thomas is still ill,

so he's not practicing in today either. The good news is a Zamari was out there and he hasn't been out there on Wednesdays in the last couple of weeks. Same thing for Zach Martin was out there at limited but out there, so that's an improvement too. So coop coop coop was full. Yeah, so that's encouraging because he's been fighting through stuff the last couple of games. They managed him a little bit this game, Yeah, exactly, And so that's why, ever since I'm wondering, this is my

own thoughts. Tell me if I'm right or wrong on this. But the Cowboys now are twofold. I mean, if you take away the past, you have Zeke, but most teams have been focused. I mean, it's been four years, three years of Ezekiel Elliott, so we're not seeing much of him in year four. Obviously, my question is which way or the Patriots gonna go. They're gonna try to take away the downfield attack because in that case, you need a Marie out there a lot more than just three catches.

I promise you Belichick is going to go against the run first. He's going to He's gonna play the run first. Look for the Cowboys to come out of heavy run. And don't don't don't mistake yourself. Guy, It's not just about the system with Belichick. It's going to be about the matchups here in this game. You know you're talking about Cooper. Good to hear the Cooper is doing well, because these dbs are gonna be in his face now all night long. It's gonna be just like you know,

THEVA Giants in ninety. You're gonna have a bunch of athletic guys out there, and it's gonna be a matchup problem for the Cowboys, and that's why Belichick is so insistent in his press conferences that his players need to be ready because you know, you can jam Cooper all you want. If this guy's one hundred percent, he can embarrass you. You know. And everyone knows the history of Cobb and how well he's done throughout the entire his entire career. So this is going to be an amazing

matchup games. The systems are going to collide, the game plans are going to collide, but when it comes to the matchups one on one, that's going to be the key to winning this game. That's up and down the line, offensive lineman, defensive lineman, DB's wide receivers. This is going to be a straight up old school game to it.

The best athlete is going to win this game. You know, the more I keep looking at this, the more I agree with you that they they work to take away the run because he has so much confidence in his corners and safeties to cover that they think, Okay, I don't need to play cover too, I'm in man with

single safety high. Let's go play Sometimes no safety in the middle, and they're blitzing, and they're coming at Gero coverage and they're gonna just say, Okay, if we need to overload to stop the run, that's what we're gonna do. But I trust those guys on the back end. That's that's kind of the way they've been playing it. That's interesting, and you're right they I mean, they have Pro Bowl

caliber players over the secondary. But Lindsay brought up a good point because it's at some point you've seen these last two games, all right, you want to stack the box, or you want to commit a lot of guys to the line of scrimmage with run blitzing whatever, we can dice you up doing that. If they go that route, that show that they can they can capitalize. But you have to you have to in those cases. You have

to be able to self evaluate. I gotta know what my guys that's right, right, that's right, And a job of self evaluating right now, Mike Zimmer did. He said, Okay, my guy's in the back end can hold up right, and we're going to cause you trouble upfront. But again, you have to self I learned that from Jimmy Johnson that self evaluable. Never her to use that way. But that's was the most important thing. I can't fool myself and say, yeah, my guy can do that when you

know deep down and you can't do that. I've always said, you know when you when your guy, you know you're six two and you run a four seven forty at your college. Yeah, I realize that it's all about knowing your limitations. And I always say this, if you know your limitations, then you're a stronger player because you won't try something that you know you cannot do. You will play within yourself, regardless of the emotional situations or what's going on in the field. You will play within yourself.

And as a coach, you have to know how good your players are and what they can handle on the back end. That's why Bill's gonna He is so adamant with his defense about how good this team is, how potentially good this cowboy team is. And that's why you know, in that NFC title game in ninety three, when he supposedly made this bold prediction that they were going to beat the forty nine ers, right, well, he knew his team. It wasn't like he was trying to brag or give

him a false sense of confidence. He knew that was not That confidence was not false. No, those guys he knew they were confident. Yeah, he knew they were cocky. He knew they were going to go in and win. I think that was incentive for him, wasn't it. No, that one was here? Okay, the next one they lost was in the first two. So the first one was in San Francisco, and then the second one, when he was confident, was here, and then the third one was out there. Yeah, both of them out there in a

mud bath. You gotta be confident, but you gotta be honest about what your strengths and weaknesses are as coaches and players. Let's take our first break. What's popping off on periscope? Yes, a question here that I've wanted to talk about. Actually, I can't wait for you guys to hear it. Patriots pride themselves on special teams. How big of an impact is this going to be

this week? When you think about their special teams unit and the Cowboys who have had two touchdowns? I'm sorry, that might that might be the most lopsided. I'm sorry, I'm laughing. Go in, go in, vic Fellas. I mean, this could be the deciding teams have not been good. Can somebody tell me the special team coaches name, We're not going to do that. He's gotta be accountable, He's

gotta be held accountable. I must say the special teams has been the most consistent element of this team for I'd say at least the last five years, especially with the uh the field goal kickers we've had, and that's not including the last couple of years. But I'm talking about when we had, uh, we've still got one of the best punners in the league, most consistent pumbers in league. We had one of the more consistent kickers in the league a couple of years ago, and uh, we could

depend on that every game. We could depend on that. Now it's different. Yeah, And you know, he started falling off that last part of the year before they let him go, and he struggled last year with the Vikings Bailey. Now he's back. Now he's back on his normal pace. So he's been pretty good. You're right. And Maha has been more consistent better lately lately, but not you know, there's some key ones that he misses that you sit there and go that could change the complexion of the

game and the season itself start. But it's not only the kicking, it's the you know, yeah, covering punts and kickoffs. When we when we signed Tavon Austin, I thought, this is it, this is the excitement that we need, and I just haven't seen it. Yeah, I haven't seen any of it, whether it's communication problems or it just seems like every time he runs the ball, no matter how much room is in front of him, when he catches it,

we get a negative return. I don't understand how we can do that, especially in some of the biggest games and key moments. And this team, we talked about it, how little healthy defense gives team gives the Cowboys. Special teams just really not helping much at all either, you know. And they brag about how much depth they have, and normally the depth should show up on special teams, right, and it really hasn't. You got a bunch of young

guys out there. You don't have very many salty veterans that have been around the league for four or five years playing on special teams. We always had that that guy on special teams right right. It was always see Bill before that you Anthony Dickerson from SMU, just the late Anthony linebacker. Linebacker from SMU. Ron Fellows came in. He has a specialist to where University of Curry stop him from getting down the field. He was gonna make that play, make that one on one tackle, you know

as the guy is retreating. Yeah, you know, we always had that excitement and it would ignite the defense because oh, now we've got them backed up even ten fifteen more yards and you know that ignites everything. So we just haven't had that from a specialist team standpoint to where Tayvon or some return guys gotten the ball, you know, taking it from you know, being at the thirty yard line to all of a sudden now with the fifty yard line. We just haven't helped your offense, had helps

your office help the entire team. Yeah, absolutely, and the coverage to Mickey mentioned that there's been some some leakage on some returns um and the Patriots feast off of that. They're they're a field position team, even with Tom Brady, who's okay, his numbers aren't what they are. But when you give Tom Brady short fields, you're in trouble. Baby has some block punts too, haven't they. Yeah, block punts, defensive touchdowns. They score in a lot of different ways.

In Yeah, yes, yes, I was trying to think that boys have a punt blocked. It's like, well, let's let's hope that I can't remember one, and let's hope we never remember one. Yes, this week, another question for you, ever, Sin do you think that Cheetah would be suited better at a different position or different role. You know, I realized I said it a couple of weeks ago, just how athletic our cornerbacks are. Extremely athletic. Jones is one

of the most athletic players in the league period. He was the darling of the camp back when he was a senior. Uh A. Woozier is always shown that he can run and make some plays. It's the mental aspect. To me, it's always the mental approach to it. If you can't make plays at cornerback, I can't see moving you to another position changing that what you have to have And we ho up on this all the time,

and you know, here we go again. When you start to talking about trying to make a difference as a defensive back, one thing you have to have is route recognition. You have to have route recognition. You can't just be out there running with a guy and just staring in the back of his head not really having any idea what his preferred outcome is. You know where he wants to be as a receiver on the field. You need to know that. You need to know when he's running

then out route where they're gonna throw it. When he runs the slant, where's it gonna be, what they're gonna throw it? When he runs a post? What's the moves? When is it too When is it time to turn around and look for the ball? Where is that clock go off in your head? These are things that these dbs don't have, and that's something that I thought you could teach, but obviously it's very difficult to teach. Moving

a Woozier would not make a difference. I don't think I'd be extremely surprised if it did, because I really haven't seen him show any great ball skills. And if you if he could show me that, then yes, I would say moving him and made a difference. But his what he lives is in his athleticism alone. It has nothing to do with ball skills. I haven't seen that yet, you know, And I know everybody harps on him because

they see completions on that side of the field. But from a past defense, you know, there's one play that stands out right this whole season so far, the Jets ninety two yard completion for a touchdown. If you look at their numbers, their seventh in the league. In past defense, teams are averaging on offense like two hundred and thirty some yards a game. The Cowboys are giving up like two twenty six. So the past defense hasn't hurt them. What's hurt them is the run defense. That's the consistent

thing in losses that you can look at. So again, you know the Packers game, you know, okay, they gave up yards, but a lot of that had to do with the turnovers given the Packers short fields, and the

Vikings game it was mistackles. Right. Yeah, So I know everybody wants to harp on one thing, you know, but as Jason said today, you know that they're gonna complete passes and you know this, The thing is, okay, I got to come back and make a play, right because they're gonna come There's a reason why these quarterbacks are throwing.

All these guys get paid just like we do. Yeah, so you're not going to pitch a shutout, but you just want to make a play here or there to say, okay, I'm here by the way if you're coming my way. So I think the things the two things we've talked about the most defensively are the tackling and the takeaways. If they improve those two areas, and they've got a shot to be really elite defense. This is the biggest

test for the defense. And those two areas alone, and those are two areas where they've had the less consistency. They're gonna screen you, they're gonna use Edelman, they're gonna use Michelle White, Burkhead, all those guys. And we saw what the Vikings were able to do in the screen. And you gotta be as clean as you can be tackling assignment, gap wise, all those things. And by the way, on that injury port for the for the Patriots, the two guys that did not practice were two of their

top three wide receivers. Philip door Set missed with a concussion, so you never know how soon those things clear up. And Mohammed Sanu was out with an ankle. They're saying it might be a high ankle too. We'll see what that. Maybe he's gonna Yeah, so that really that really would limit you know, they're already seemingly limited and throwing the ball down the field. They just don't do it very much, but that would severy a little them. Then then they

got um, I can't pronounce. The guy's name is Knell, Harry Neil, Kneil Harry good young player. He's the other young player that he used, but he had been out and you know, I don't know how much he's done. So they've got some problems at wide receiver other than Edelman, who was a big problem. By the way, all they're gonna do, it's gonna they're gonna be very strategic in what they do. If I were the Cowboys, I would come out so aggressively against the Patriots. Defensively, I'd come

out extremely aggressive, make Brady uncomfortable. And what happens is when you start doing all of that, they're gonna try and get people free fast. They're gonna set picks for Element all day long. So when it comes, don't be surprised. You don't start. It's gonna happen. You might as well look forward to it. That is part of a Belichick's game plan. And that's when Element is really that's when he's a beast. When he is able to get some space and when he catches it is he's hard to

bring down. So as a cornerback, when you can see you're getting picked, what's the what are you're supposed to do? Go under? You're got to communicate whatever you do. You got to communicate. We have to be on the same page. We used to practice that all the time. Once you lock on, you're on. You can't keep waiting all the way down to field for them to uncover. Now, once

you lock on, then you lock on. And if once you do lock on, if you're if you're covering the got man to man, and if you lock on and he's inside of you and he's got a chance to go across the field, when you do lock on, you better make sure that you lock onto where you have the leverage on that receiver. He might go across the field and get seven eight yards. That's great, but you don't want him breaking down the field and you're chasing him for thirty four the years. That's not what you want.

Sometimes you just have to pick your battles. I was decent at that when I played. You're gonna give up something, and as in the flex, that's what the way we were taught to play it by the Cowboys. You have to give up something as a defensive back, but don't give up the big play. And to me that that works well for almost any defensive strategy. So if a guys getting ready to pick you do you want to run into them and hope they throw a flag or you try to get through it. If I run through him,

then I'm running through him in order to get through it. Okay, I'm not trying to get to show something because I'm If you flop and it doesn't work, he's going your arms. Yeah, that quap. You can't depend on that. You've got to stay alive and at the same time show that you're fighting through exactly exactly before we go to break lens. You were a baller back in the day. I'm making it. I'm making an MJ comparison here because it were you at all. That Tom Brady who looks for any slight

ever as motivation, just like Michael Jordan did. That's who I think of that everybody's trying to kind of bury him a little bit. That happened last year? Was it last year? Yeah? Actually he was like you know what, everybody said, we suck. Here we are again with another another drophe I mean, I feel like last year they got it worse than this year. Maybe so, maybe so. I just there's just all this talk that he's forty two and his numbers are down, just like, oh, he's

not too happy with it either. Too many interviews about it, Yeah, too many questions about it. He did say, I grew up hating the Cowboys, so I don't know that. Yes, oh that's right, that's right. So we I mean, still, he's got he's got to show me. He's still to go. We've got to bring it to him. You can't play scared against this guy. You can't play scared against this entire team. I think you're right. This is how and

this is how sharp he is. I saw his interview yesterday after practice and somebody asked him about the two wide receivers being out, and he looked at him and he goes, they're out, they didn't practice. And the guy goes, he goes, was that already officially announced? And the guy goes, yeah, it's already out. Here goes oh okay, And then he

answered the question. He goes, I thought you were trying to get me right, Yeah, we beltre could play games with the reporters, so then they will turn around and try to see get the plays. Yeah right, he is the best at that. Absolutely. All right, let's take our final break. We come back. We got Mickey's read, we got Yeah, there always look forward to that plus more

Is that where you went? Where I went? Sir? Yeah, I'm playing the West guy. My son's playing a West nice. I think he played against Burckhead. He probably did. Um, that'll have to be a Google question. I'm pretty sure he has at least two super Bowls. I know he's got last birthhead. How many super Bowl

rings do you see? Yeah? And I was just saying, when you think of all the guys from Dallas, the play ball, Harvey Martin, myself, Michael Downs, you know all these players, uh, Calvin Lockhart's by Lockhart, all these guys. I think he has more rings than anybody else, and anybody else from the Dallas area. I keep to leave has his his one burkhead actually only has one ring. Just went from last year. Yeah, it was from last season. Was that his first year in New England? Last year?

I think it might have been, Well now I think it was his second because I remember talking to his dad. He was a free agent at some point and he decided to go back to New England and he said, you know, his thinking was, you know, these people know me. I'm comfortable there, I've been there. Don't want to ring, don't want to go something. I was surprised to see him back, I know. And it turned out okay, right, Yeah, And he was one of those jack of all trade

guys that you just love to have. I remember from playing though he was he was crazy. He was Bill Jones would be all over this ring when people don't get the respect when they're the local guys. And he loved X from they were using them against Philadelphia. I mean they were handing them the ball. I started to ask him about it yesterday, I really did. I started to ask Bill about it yesterday because this guy, that's his guy. He's a guy that I just never even

as good as he was in high school. When Nebraska, right, yeah, goes to Nebraska, you think he's just a good college player. He'll never make it, you know, And I was pleasant le surprise. Yeah he made it doing so well. I mean, when you can say when when Belichick can depend on you in special situations, I don't care if you get an All Pro Hall of Fame whatever, you can always say Belichick depended on me. I was one of his guys, and I think I think he is one of Belichick's favorites.

He helped salt that Super Bowl away for them in the fourth quarter, and he's fit right in with that. They always use a stable of backs, Michelle White, he's part of it. To last week, he big player. I think about thirty plus yards on the pass play that really helped him seal the game. Did you guys catch the I used it in my mix shots, But Jerry's interview on Monday, when they asked him about Belichick and then they asked him, did you have any you know,

relationship with him before or whatever? And Jerry tells the story. He didn't give the year, but it had to be after the ninety five season, okay, and the Cowboys had won the Super Bowl. He said he was at a ski resort and he was in line trying to rent skis for his grandkids, and he goes some guy behind me kept bumping into me and bumping into me. He said, I turned around and looked, and he said, he's got his goggles on, you know, got a hat on. He

doesn't recognize him, right, and he goes in. Finally the guy raised his goggles up and it was Belichick. Belichick was in the ski line behind him and and he said, we made small talk, and he said Belichick told me. He goes, hey, you know, if if you ever need a good coach, come call me right. Wow. And this was after he got fired at Cleveland and he was looking for a job. Wow. So who do we have

at that time? Wow? Switzer had just won a Super Bowl. Okay, okay, So we missed that opportunity and he ended up going to the Jets with ourselves one blowing opportunity right there, big time. But he was like forty four and sixty or something. See Belichick doing anything but coaching. They had they had an episode of him on his boat. It was six Wings. Is that the name of the boat is? Yeah, it sounds like some boat. Yeah whatever. I just you know, it looks so out of place. He was kicked back

with a beard, you know, him, Him and Sabing, same thing. Yeah, I can't seem like you're pretending to be comfortable on this boat, but you're cringing inside because you want to be. He's out there in sunshine, but really in his mind, he's he's at uh at the stadium, you know, and in blizzard driven snow. Watch out for those boats. That's why.

When when when? Yeah, right, yeah, regardless of the time. Yeah, when Jimmy, when Jimmy and Jerry had their little party after the Super Bowl and twenty eight, Jimmy took him vacation, right he was gone from the ranch and I saw him come back and it's like, the heck have you been? He goes took two weeks off? I got you took a vacation? He goes first one I took since I was coaching at Oklahoma State, right and then, right then and there, I said, oh he had that boat. He

was in Miami. He might have find out there's more to life than just coaching football. Right and sure enough, you know he was looking for a little out after that season about Jimmy. But man, he's got a great hair to hair, he does, got the best hair to hear still he does. Golly, dude, I can imagine with that tan, he's probably looking like, who's some batman? What's that guy? Who's the joker? Was a sit Sesar or somebody? Yeah, with the just silver, yes, but all of it. Yes, Yes,

can't beat that. Football lifers belichicks. That's yeah, he's one. They're nine and one guys on the show with hair and me. He got great hair, man, you got great hair. We're back to Marl Lynn. Thanks for joining us today. I have great hair, he does. Bill Jones has a great hair too. He'll be back wrap up the week Friday. Thanks. Thanks, yes missing.
