The following is a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club. This is He's Talking Cowboys, screening live from the Dallas Cowboys World hears at the Star in Frisco. Says, here are Mickey Spagnola, Bryan Brons, Rob Phillips, and Bill Jones. It is a fabulous football Friday. Mickey, who do you wave at when you wave when they announce your name? Yourself in? Somebody's watching, No one in particular, just all the Mickey fans fans. All right, it's time

to talk Cowboys. It's time to talk Cowboys, Red Skins and I am Bill Jones, Rob Phillips. The Aggies are doing what this weekend. I think we're off this week I think you are off this weekend. Brian brought us the Bayou Bengals are doing what this weekend. Mississippi stayed at home. This will be interesting. Hopefully you'll be able to be in a boy, You'll be in a position

because you're here. I am here, you stay here. I will I will sweat this game like I always Six o'clock tomorrow night on the ESPN and the Missoi Tigers are doing what Mickey, homecoming against Memphis, and you'll miss homecoming. I will probably miss the game. Fly on to Washington, DC. All right, non conference tilt against Memphis. Yes, Memphis is not bad. The one like a six and one. A lot of people picking them to win, so and I think the spreads only seven points. Can you might have

not picked the right team for homecoming? Can I ask a real quick question here, Mickey, is this quarterback played like a guy that we might need to talk about in the draft show as one of the top two or three. You will and his name again, Drew Locke, Drew lock Them. Does he remind you of anybody you've scene? I don't want to know. He's God. No, he made the right decision. He came back for his SATH year.

Gabert made the big mistake because there's a lot of times last year where they were throwing to spots and I think the best thing that's happened to him is Derek Dooley got there and they're playing more of a pro style. Author Gabert may have made the right decision because if he stayed in school, he may have been exposed and he may not have been a first round and that might have been that. Well, the scout should

have seen it. I saw it, you know when he got remember that got to the NFL and he yes, he is. Okay, that's some scene. There's some good quarterbacks in this got a first he's got a first round arm. Yeah, and here he better. I mean, he's fortunate he's coming out now because after we talked to Gil Brandt about the Oregon quarterback and then I saw him play. Oh boy, that's what I'm saying. It's like six six sixty seven

and he runs and he got an arm. Meanwhile, my five six first round draft pick quarterback Kylie plays at TCU. We see if the defense gets turned around. All right, Cowboys, red Skins Thursday Night Football last night, Denver, all over Arizona and speaking of first round draft pick quarterbacks, Josh Rosen did not have the best of days. But kind of thought that guy was Matt Ryan when he was coming out. He looks far from Matt Ryan with the way they're playing right now. I didn't expect Arizona to

be that bad. Yeah, I know they changed coaches and stuff like that. Yeah, but that's maybe replacing their offensive coordinator. Is that the that was the narrative time out of the game. You know what, that's a new coach. Well, Steve Wilkes, that's a new coach. And one and done. Mickey over there, I don't know. But when you get beat that bad at home, I don't know what he's talking. He's talking one half and done. I can't I can't get Mickey to say anything bad about this coach. He's

trying to fire Zona's guy. This team that bad in a while. When you don't have an offensive line, that's a struggle. That just brings us to Cowboys Redskins. And we've got a couple of offensive lines here, one that, as you know, with the Cowboys played much better last week and maybe hitting a stride as we hit mid season. And then of course Bill Callahan and his bunching running game. Moses over there. It's a great nickname he created for him a long time ago. I like Bill as a coach.

It has been with him a couple of places. Everywhere he goes, they seem to run the ball. Well. Now Peterson is running like a guy who's not thirty three. Every other week. It's incredible, Yeah, it is. It's been an every other week proposition for them, which makes you

wonder when they lose. It's funny. When they lose, it's he doesn't get a hundred yards, but when they win, you know, he seems to get under yards and at thirty three, maybe it isn't every other week proposition, which bodes well for the Cowboys this week because he has ninety eight last week or something like that. Yeah, running hard though, yeah, quick first. Yeah, see, that's what I worry about. I worry about you guys. We we see. I think the Redskins, I know Mickey'll probably go through

the injury report. Redskins are really beat up at receiver. There's a good chance that they're not going to have Jamison Crowder for this game again. Yeah, and there's a and there's a chance they might not have Paul Richardson either, which is like they're two primary now there. If you look at their team, their number one receiver is the running back Chris Thompson. Their number two they didn't have last right, and their number two receiver is Jordan Reid

tight end. Yeah, so this is a team that's offensively challenged when it comes How many times have we've seen the Redskins when we play and it's been over there and it's been like, geez, you gotta worry about this guy and this guy and this guy and this guy.

You know, all those receivers that they've had for all those years in the Carson back, in the jay Tana Moss, Yeah, Shan Jackson, I mean Richardson, Yeah, Paul Richardson banged up though he's got he's got some shoulder practiced all week, yeah, neither shoulder and knee, crowder hand practice all week. And Richardson's they're leading wide receiver, yeah, with sixteen catches. Sound. Richards has never done much for me, even coming out.

He just a speed guy, but he just you're just kind of were hoping that he would have one of those eighty catch seasons and it just hadn't materialized. I just he just hadn't done much more. And I didn't expect much either from this. This is going to be the challenge for the Cowboys defense if if if we can go that direction a little bit. You know, Okay, you're playing with a lot You're playing with a checkdown

back that can make some plays. You're playing with a real running back that can run despite being thirty three years old. But you're also playing with a back. If Thompson plays, you're playing with that back that they can flip the ball to. But now you've got to cover a bunch of tight ends. You know, you got to cover the Jordan reads and you got to cover the Vernon Davises and stuff. Marinelli said yesterday this is the best tight end combo that he's had to deal with. Yeah. Yeah,

see he got hurt, yeah early in that game. Yeah, it's been it's yeah, I'm trying to think though, Giants, Giants, Evan Ingram a little bit. But two different guys can beat you. You know they haven't dealt with that yet. Forget Seattle's tight ends. Um, it's not Jimmy Graham, I know that. Yeah. Detroit, Detroit. Yeah, that's that's been kind of a see Houston. I mean, Ryan Griffin had all them, Ryan Griffin. See, that's what I want to get to. Are you worried a little bit mickey about that? You

didn't really cover Ryan Griffin all that well? And now you're having to play against tight ends that are capable of catching the ball down the field. I'm trying to remember, Um, how they played that? Is it? You know, did they cover it with did it Heath? Heath was taking on see, I think they zone the tight ends against Houston. I'm trying to remember. Yeah, when did Heath get hurt because

he missed part of second second game? It was the Houston game he got he got the shoulder in the in the in that game when somebody who ran into him. He was on the goal line when they had the collision on the goal line. Yeah, yeah, it looked like a ball offensive penalty. Honestly, Yeah, Detroit, I think it was Houston came back the next I can't remember what I had for breakfast this morning, asking questions you can remember nineteen seventy four, though I can't remember nineteen sevent

four that scarred me for life. But but do you worry, okay, do you worry about though, how they're gonna play these tight ends? Are you worried that? Okay? Is it gonna be Heath and Frazier and would single high or is it gonna be Vandersch or gonna be Yeah? I think clarification on he got hurt against Detroit, carry on Johnson, I'm sure, because I'm sure played eighty snaps against Houston. Yeah, Joe and Flower Mount's losing his mind right now because

I couldn't remember the Detroit game. Okay, yeah, yeah, they all run together, all right, continue on, but no, the tight ends. Yeah, you know that seems like the best avenue for what the Redskins. How they're gonna have to move the ball if they don't get things going in the running game. Are we concerned about hey, the outside, We're not worried about the receivers so much. We worried about what Washington can they beat you just throwing the ball to the tight end Xavier Woods. That's what they

did last week against Carolina. Yeah, I mean that touchdown to Vernon Davis. They split Jordan read out. Yeah, okay, they was single high, right, Alex Smith looked off the safety and there goes and they were confused. It was just like it was time. It was a three tight end formation. There you go, and they were the Carolina was confused and Will McClay broke it down. You'll see it on the Jason Garrett Show. This yeah, watching and Luke Luke Keekley is trying to get everybody lined up

right in Carolina defense. And no one took Vernon Davis because they were they were thirteen personnel, Yeah, thirteen personnel. They let Jordan Read out wide right, and they and Alex Smith looked off the safety who was going to cover read. Vernon Davis was left wide open up the scene for a touchdowns hand a fourteen nothing lead, and Washington goes on to I think if you had to see a concern about this offense, it's not so much what's gonna happen at wide receiver, it's what's going to

happen potentially at tight end. Well, they'll get lined up this week because out there, there you go. You'll get to the injury report. Sure, why not. We'll start with Shaun Lee. There you go for practice fully, first time full. So my understanding is unless something happens today or overnight last night, that he's probably good to go and they'll get back to their three man rotation. Obviously they're not going to play him eighty snaps, but there'll be a

rotation between those three guys at the two positions. So that's good news for the Cowboys. De Marcus Lawrence got back into practice full eight, and so did Randy Gregory. So from an injury standpoint, that's the good news. The bad news is they will be without Tavon Austin and depending on what he decides, and it sounds like he's leaning against surgery. He had been to Philadelphia. I think

they were recommending surgery. The Cowboy doctors were not. And so five to six weeks probably for him that he would be out if he didn't have surgery. If he has surgeries, probably on IR we've we've talked about pairing this thing down. Do you have to go get somebody for Tavon Austin? Are we going to carry him for five weeks? And who would you go get? Well, I mean go get his off the practice. You've got to buy or go or go or Noah Brown. You start to clock on Noah Brown. You gotta buy next week.

So that helps you in terms of you're not missing a game there that's one week down. If it's five weeks, then yeah, it's four games without him, and I think you could carry him. You know you've already I r Terrence Williams, who suspended, by the way, that was announced yesterday three games, which doesn't affect anything as far as the roster. It affects his pocket book, right, he doesn't get played him. And I figured I figured he misses two hundred and five thousand dollars per game a game,

six fifteen total. Yeah. Now, the good news that there's a buy in there, so I'm assuming he gets paid for the buy Yeah right, yes, so well, okay, so this week contract this week and then they paid two other game than two other games he misses. Cheez, that's not good for that kid. I think you could carry him right now. I mean I think I think the idea would be too. You look at this injury report and you've got a lot of guys on it, but they're all practicing, so this is some of the healthiest

looks they've been so far. Knock on wood, knock on Brian's forehead right there. Yeah, I think you can carry him. Bryce Butler is signed to be part of this thing, right, I mean, at some point are we going to see him or not? I mean, I'm ready for Mickey to tell to shut up about Bryce Butler. But you don't have to put Oh no, never mind. I'm just saying Williams was already on. Yeah, William sorry, Austin becomes the inactive guy instead of Bryce Butler. Yeah, I'm just saying, yeah,

you had not still have five guys. Yeah, at some point he's gonna get more than the Harold Mary snap right or maybe not. I don't know. They signed him for the Terrence Williams insurance really and now here's Austin hurt too. All right on Tavon, if you did decide to I r him with the with the thinking that he could come back, Okay, be one of your guys you bring back eight weeks, would take you through the

Philadelphia game and he would be Williams. You could have him the last three games, three games and playoffs, Yeah, at Indianapolis, Tampa Bay and at the JOm the like I kind of like you know that kind of show. It was blink guy, right, at least one that'd be three playoff games or four that would be one bill. Okay, first round by. But if they if they if they did that first round by, that's good. Yeah, yeah, if they did that though the rams A guy. Let me ask you, if you had to fill a spot, what

would you rather have, Noah Brown or Lance Lenoris? Oh, here we go on the noise. No, it's a fair no, it's a fair question. I think that's a fair question. That's a fair question. Say it again. Okay, I'm interested Noah Brown or Lance Lenor. Yeah, it's a fair question. I know he's just he's not a fan of Nover and what but no, think about what training camp? Oh wait, are you a fan of He doesn't want to around on this football team to worry about the big Maybe

I'm maybe this is the weird me. But he does make plays in practice. I will give him credit for that. Which one Lance lenoors game? Do we always see the plays when he gets to play? That's what I'm saying, Make you kill me on He's time to find out he had a hell of a game like that. It's time to find we're not finding out about Michael gallop or exactly, thank you very much. As soon as he went across the table with me at that one, I'm like, Mickey,

you haven't found out about Michael Gallup yet either, have you? Well, I mean at least he's on the fifty three. Yeah for one week. I understand what you're saying. And here's another thing about it. They signed Bryce right and and some people's Brian said like why not Lance, Well you have a five eight Cole Beasley, you have a five eight Tavon Austin and then too. Now if if Austin's out of the picture for a few weeks, maybe it

makes a little more sense. Again, though, I ask, why is Bryce Butler on the team if you're not going to use him. Why this is a guy that has shown he can make plays with Dak Prescott as your quarterback. I just like to see him at some point. I'm starting to wonder if it's going to happen though. Was he healthy enough last week because he would have been Yeah, there's that, but I mean even something went on there and we just haven't had it figured out yet. Mickey,

something's going on. I'm screaming for the guy. I'm not the hugest fan of his, but I understand a big body guy that will go get it. They made him inactive for the game, but Jason said he could have played. It was kind of a numbers thing. They felt better about receiver. I guess the whole game. Yeah, well they kept they kept him up, but I guess that was for an emergency situation. Okay, who do you want to play the Tavon Austin role this week? That's a good question.

Well I think you Okay, can Micky, tell me what Tavon Austin's role is. No, I was gonna say, you created a role for him specifically, But if there is there a receiver on the team, does that have to have a role. Well, is there a receiver on the team who can do some of the same stuff potentially that Tavon Austin. I'm talking the jet sweep stuff and that kind of stuff where you're the stuff that you've

incorporated into the offense. Is there some other wide receiver who can take on that role where you're not just eliminating that now Cole Beasley only last week, whenever he's done it previously, it has if you wanted to do you have to have that in your offense. I'm getting it. Deonte Thompson, he's got the speed to do it. That's who I was thinking of. But how many jet sweeps

do you run per game? Like? I'm kind of yeah, I mean it's not it's not like he's not not talking just jet sweeps, But what I would question if they're using enough. I'm waiting there. See, that's the problem I have. If you're gonna tell me, Okay, who's gonna run the jet sweep stuff? Does it really matter? Okay, how many snaps was Tavon getting? Mickey help me? Not quite twenty again? Okay, so who's the Tavon snaps? Hopefully

Michael Gallop. I'm just you know what I'm saying. I just want him to play more, right, But and then Gallup played a lot last week? Sure didn't get Tart snaps. Yeah, let's start targeting him while he's out there, if we can, please? Yeah? Was that? What was that about? What you question? No, that's an agreement. Tavon Austin ten to eighteen, twenty seventeen, twenty three, eighteen last week, but he got hurt? All right?

How about Deonte Thompson? Thompson is less thirty twenty three, twenty eight, twenty nine, thirty six and last week seven seven last week for Thompson. See, this is where I'm starting to be a little because Michael Gallup had fifty nine and Hearns had fifty seven. Do you have somebody else in mind you'd rather dressed than Thompson on the forty six, I'd rather dress than Thompson. Bryce Butler, Okay, I'm yes, I would argue that. Yes, Yeah, I mean

I've been arguing that much is it is? And Butler was a will participate this week in practically ask you this. I'm for paring it down, but I kind of want to see another guy that don't. They haven't gotten down to the top three. Gallop herns in Beasley, that's my three. That's my three. That's kind of the way they've been going, right, that's my three. Swains, you're tight end. Swain's my tight end. Yeah, I'm yeah, I'm Jarwin Schultz. They've got me confused on

this receiver. Stay yeah, No, I'm with you. They're still trying to figure it out, I think. And now now you have a situation where you have to juggle a little bit. I'm with you on the extra snaps going to gallop though that was a pole. That was that guy crossed the way he was on that. I'm just piggybacking what he's saying. Now, they just need to throw target targeting, get them. Yeah, all right, we're just getting

started on talking cowboys. So much more to get to, including your phone calls at eight eight eight eight five five to two nine seven had the card in your hand that time you thought I remembered it has been helping Cowboys fans see better since nineteen seventy two. Now there you go, October thirtieth. That's the trade. Absolutely say that. Yeah, we got that. Over the course of the next two weeks, that'll be build On Tuesday, October thirtieth, the trade deadline topical topical I want to write tuesday. Is there any position you

would like to improve at the trade deadline? Ask you this, If you'd added a wide receiver, would it matter? I mean no, seriously, I mean everybody wants you to add a wide receiver. But with the way this offense is right now, does it matter? I'm kind of with you. We're still trying to figure out how we can get Michael gallupmore naps, and now we're gonna try to you know, bring in another dude. Well, I don't know about I don't know about your guys, Timeline, but everybody wants Amari Cooper.

I can understand that. I mean, and I how much I get it. I'm going to understand it's probably his base salary this year is not you're only paying for half. No, No, I'm saying, how much is it going to cost me to get him? Better? Not be a first round pick? See that's I'm saying. So, you know, if the if the Raiders, But let's be honest here with the way that they you know, and maybe we in the next ten games or so, you can develop some down the

field throws. Maybe we see that kind of work. But can I can a one make that much difference right now with the way And I'm just asking. I'm not trying to be a smart a, you know, I'm just saying, if you went out and got a guy like that, does it it's kind of help, right? It would help? It would probably if you get a guy of that caliber. I mean, you probably are drawing more attention and maybe opening things up for others. How long does it take to get a new guy incorporated in the offense in

mid season as Roy Williams. Some fans just crack me up because a week ago, it's fire everybody, let's start the draft show, Let's do all that. Next Thursday, we got one, by the way, wait and they win a game. That's that's right. Bye week. Addition, and they win a game, and it's like, well, let's you know, let's beef up for the playoff run. You know, I'm just trying to

figure out. I'm just trying to figure out if if I went in and gave if I took Mickey's second round pick and went and got a wide receiver, would he make that much of a difference, you know? Or or is there you know defensively? I don't think I would try and improve anything. How smart is the guy? I don't know? Yeah, see, because you're gonna pick it

up quick. There's no bye week unless you do. My my, my guy, Michael Lombardi, who I've worked with and was best man in my wedding and all that he told me, and he told really America in the world that he wasn't sure he's hearing that. Michael Galupua, we didn't like Michael Gaup that Amari Cooper really didn't like football, but there's been guys that played well in this league that didn't like football. Not trying to hurt him for that, but I'm trying to say, gosh, if why is Gredon

getting rid of him? You know, I texted John the other day, just told him to keep his head up. And you know, he just says, hey, I just need to keep building this team and I and I wanted to text back, John, you're tearing your team down. You know. I think John just wants his type of players. You know, if he's not Gruden's type player, then I don't want him. Okay, now Mickey out say this, please before you go that route. John. John is rough on personnel. That's all right, John, John

Will John will look at you the eyes. And he didn't say he couldn't play though, No, he didn't. And you know, but it surprises me that John. And John's usually really good with his wide receivers. He's really a good usually a very good evaluator of wide receivers. Now, I always remember him about Isaac Bruce. He told all of us in Green Bay. He goes, you guys are idiots for not wanting this guy. He's he is a legitimate player, and we're all like, yeah, right, John, right, John.

But he's had he's had his he's has moments. But I'm just saying, I don't know why he's getting rid of him, Mickey. I just think he wants his own guys and and but he can't do that. I mean, he's gonna keep losing games. I mean, that's one thing to tear things down, but there's no sense getting rid of a building block, you think. Can you know Jimmy Johnson tore things down in eighty nine, but he didn't

get with Michael Irvin did. Yeah, we had terrible teams though here, Mickey didn't We Well, they have a terrible team there now. Well, there's no bigger building block than Khalil Mack. They've already gotten rid of him. Yeah, but that was a financial thing, right, Okay, they were sat across the table for me and said just keep him and make him show up. Well I would have, but they didn't. They didn't figure he was going to show up,

so they said, okay, let's get something for him. I don't know, he had two first rounds for him, right, So if I got two first rounds, yeah, you know, it's like Seattle got two first rounds for Joey Galloway. They probably stripped over themselves. Stop in that trade. No more first round picks for wide receivers somebody else doesn't

want it. Just threw up in my mouth. And to your point about getting a wide receiver acclimated very quickly, keep in mind, the Cowboys have four games in the span of eighteen days in the month of November, starting with a Monday night game against Tennessee and stopped making a good point of to day. And if this guy doesn't want to live here for four weeks, then you're wasting your time. And next year it's fourteen million dollars. I would rather take Mickey's second round pick and try

and find a wide receiver in the draft. Yeah, I really would. And I'm usually that, well, go for it, Mickey, go for it, which you know. Yeah, that brings up another point. I heard Solomon Wilcot's on NFL serious, he pronounced his name right, very nice radio driving in getting on Jerry Jones today because of not draft, because of his comment about not having a number one wide receiver here for several weeks, and he blamed him for not having one and any well, he blamed him for the GM.

He blamed him for not taking Calvin Ridley in the draft and not taking Courtland Sutton. It was on the heels of Courtland Sutton catching a touchdown. Now, okay, we worked the draft show really hard and Courtland Sutton was a guy that we were right, and hey, we knew that they loved him. He did a workout really the day before the draft out here on our fields. Right now. We was eating in the training Tam Mickey was Mickey was elbowing him to trying to get the chowder. That's

what Solomon was saying. He with their SMU He's right in your backyard. Okay, yeah, but if you look at you sometimes, and this is where you have to be careful. You talk about trading up for guys, and people will hold you up for picks. They will hold you up, you know, the whole idea. Yeah, they could have taken in Ridley. Absolutely. Where did where did Courtland Southern for

the Broncos at forty one? What was it? Yeah? Yeah, it was Dallas was in that position where they were in the middle of the draft and they're trying to think, Okay, how much is it gonna Now they had picks, They had enough picks to maybe work that out, but we don't know what Denver was trying to, you know at forty Yeah, because the Colts had to hear a draft show.

I love this. Colts had two picks ahead of you, I mean two that they one of you thought you can maybe trade, But you don't know what calls were made. I mean, they could have very well tried to make a trade to go. So Psalma needs to be careful about that because maybe Dallas was trying to, like hell to get up there. But then again, you don't draft Connor Williams and they were or if he's talking about taking him in the first round. Have you watched Layton

Vanderesh play. That's that right there. You're all your arguments about me wanting to take the safety from Florida State and everything else. They made the right choice with Layton Vanderesh. That was the absolute right choice to make at that time. And I'm thinking, like, all right, it's Layton Vanderesh nineteen. Okay, feel okay, feel all right? Yeah, Layton Vanderesh has played.

If retracted, if they redrafted Layton vander Esh would be maybe a top twelve pick, they probably wouldn't have gotten him. He's he's had more, he's had He's been more productive than the guy the Bears took at eight who everybody loved from Georgia, that one Smith. And there were guys in the room that thought you could take Gallop in the second round. He was that good of a value. Ye there, Yeah, so you get him in the third round.

We keep going back to him and going back to talking about Nicky's gonna get him going, talking about going training for a receiver. Maybe they I know that they feel like he's a guy that could break out down the stretch potentially if you give him time and you let him keep I talked to Cole Beasley about him this week and he said, he's just gotta if he's not thinking, if he's playing aggressive, he's trying to show

that he's putting in the work. He's it's gonna come for him, and the opportunities have to come for him. But I'm just saying, maybe you just keep building this thing and hoping that he breaks out as the season goes on. That's what I've thought all along on him, and with most rookies with that kind of talent. It's so difficult the first half of your rookie season. And I was looking at the second half of this rookie season.

We're gonna see greater strides from Michael Gallup than than what we see earlier, just because of the astiration, getting getting accustomed to it. You know, he's a bright guy. He's he's gonna get it. It just has to happen. I don't disagree with you, guys. I do not, And I thought he was one of the better receivers coming out of this draft. And that's why I'm with Mickey.

I have hope, you know, I have hoped, you know, find a way if you're gonna get him to it early, get him a ball early, get to him in the middle, and get it to him late. You know, maybe that kid. Let that kid feel some confidence in making some plays. But I just think he had to temper your expectations right off the bat with him, just because Yeah, I sure read for him too much. Ridley who took him Atlanta, Atlanta. His numbers are not bad, Mickey. If you look at

the touchdown six touchdowns. Yeah, he's got twenty two receptions. Yeah, he's played well, and the quarterback, he gets him the ball, did you take twenty two receptions? Because you don't know if they would be six touchdowns somewhere else. I'm sure they're happy with his development. I would imagine they are. Yeah, Calvin Ruley is a good player. Let's not him and DJ Moore at Carolina And I mean that hold that

middle of that trap. Well yeah, it's just like you know, you've got several different needs and you gotta you have to make a decision. Okay, just like last year. I love Juju Smith Schuster, but I don't blame the Cowboys for taking Cheeta a Woozier with your second round pick. They could have taken Juju went like the next pick to Pittsburgh. But that's an important position, cornerback. And Cheeto's not a disappointment at all. No any by the way, Mickey,

you worry about Cheeto in this game a little bit? Uh? Yeah, I'm starting to wonder, like how long is this? Yeah, ankle supposed ankle getna last Yeah, I didn't mean it's derail there, Bill. I was just thinking, I've heard the name, and I'm thinking, because I'm gonna write about something day

in final thoughts about about that. I'm a little I'm a little concerned that maybe you know, he's he's kind of coming back slowly from this, but you know, they've got the buy and all that coming up, and so I don't know they take that approach where they take that approach because you know, you got Brown and Lewis played pretty well for you last week, and again here's a here's a you know, it's just as soon as it comes on my mouth, they you know, they they

that this group has a challenge, their their challenged it receiver. You know, do you do you go ahead and say, okay, we can we can live in two weeks. Yeah, we can live with Brown and Lewis and Jones and you know, and and hope like hell will cover everybody else. And he's kind of in your back pocket in case somebody's hurt. But it's such an important game that it's a huge game that it's just like their approach with Sean Lee. People say, yeah, okay, you can buy two more weeks

if he doesn't play well. Now, if you're well enough to play, you're playing against Washington, you're well enough. If you're not, if you're playing, yeah, he's good to go. Play him. Shun Lee's an NFC e's killer. Yeah, he plays, you know, I mean these games. This is a game where he tips a pass on fourth down and you know, and then they get an interception or he some instinctual play. They try and run, and they try and run a sweep, you know, a quick sweep. Been he's right there to

tackle for minus four? What's the what's the sign in baseball when they'd have a review and they they they don't change it? Safe? Safe? Yeah, everybody, nicky just did the safe sign. If you're on the treadmill right now, I'm taking the headset off. Yeah, I'm going safe. Yeah, all right, let's go to James in New York. You're up on Talking Cowboys. Hello James, Hey, guys, thanks for taking the call um. Awesome job this week, guys with the wible. We're talking you guys talking about the Redskins

all week. I've been loving like the stories of Midi too, because I was actually down there. Don't you guys remember the two thousand and four Monday Night game when they yeah thirteen nothing in Saint Anna Moss. That was Triplett's gotten the Ring of Honor that night. That was wild. Yeah. Yeah, I was at that game and that was the first time, you know that. I was like, wow, this is a rivalry. They really hate us here. I remember because my buddy were looking for beers in the store. I didn't you

know in New York you can buy him anywhere. That is true, and it's true. Yeah, this lady hits our carriage and says, you know, we hate the Cowboys. This is westkillan I got and I was one of the Roy Williams double Star jersey and I'm like, buddy, we gotta get out of here. Yeah. So it was cool. I was reminding those things about the game. As far as the thought on the game, guys, I just think

they should do what they did last week. Play of their strengths, at least on the offensive side of the ball, and what that is. The play action stuff and that readoption stuff is money marks. I feel that is such a better quarterback when he's doing play action. And when they were I think there was a stat when they were over like thirty percent or something like that is passer rating. It's very high. And I just think they do those things. I think they got a great shot

of winning this game, all right. Thank you and the Monday night game you're referring to was the one at Washington, which was a twenty one eighteen Cowboys win in two thousand and four one one five. Yeah, the O five which the thirteen nothing lead and Santana Moss Santana Moss twice in the last two minutes of the game to win fourteen thirteen for Washington. Like he took a smoke shot, like two yard passing, Yeah, eighty yards with it? Crazy, you know what? Hey, how about this one for something?

For numbers? I know, Mickey, you like numbers. The last four times that they played Washington, they've run the ball in average of thirty five times. That's because they beat them. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. You know Washington, I mean Washington. I think it's better equipped to handle the run now. But the recipe to me, yeah, find a way, I mean, find a way just to physically if you can, you know, I don't know. Let's you know, if the recipe is to run the football and play play action, I'm all

for that. Get them big Alabama boys moving laterally. It's be a hard one today. Make them go laterally. Yep, let's go to Jim and Pasadena. Next up, I'm talking cowboys. Hello Jim, good morning man. I really appreciate your show. It's the highlight of my day. Actually, thank you, thank you. You weren't need to work on that life, sir, not during the season. It's all right. There you go, well said, well said that life. Love where the conversations going. So

I'm going to think outside the box. If we really feel we're a receiver away from a running the playoffs, you got to give up something you love to get something you need. But we don't want to give up a first or a second next year. So how about a force in Sean Lee? Do it? I know it? Hey Bill? He said he was coming out of the box, right, go ahead, keep going right, keep going on the field, and we're winning, okay. And what is he a grooten guy?

And walked about a grooten guy? And then two thousand the previous caller, two thousand and four game, that's the one that exposed Roy Williams can't play the deep ball? Is that? What is that the game you guys are talking about? I think that is absolutely right. Oh gosh, I feel bad for you. And he's such a good player. Um, here's your Chris scallister tribute question. How many picks did he have in the Super Bowl his rookie season and

what team did they play? Thanks? Guys, it was the Giants, right? That had been the Giants? Christmascallister was Baltimore? That that had been Giants? Right. I don't know how many interceptions that they were? So Carrie Collins was so bad that day. Look it up, Bill that to two thousand super Bowl? Right, it was two thousand Super Bowl. I think I'm right about that. I'm gonna I'm gonna just guess he was an MVP. That was he? Who's at Chris McAllister. I

think it was somebody he lost. It might have been Jamal Lewis, Jamal Lewis, she hadn't running all over. But but yeah, but I think that was I think that was a game. I think I'm talking about the two thousand Super Bowl. I think Chris McAllister played another super Bowl because it was twelve years between super Bowls. I think I think he was still in the Ravens And no, no, no, it wasn't it. Yeah, what was that? It was Tripp

Can't was the quarterback? Yeah, yeah, but he but Yeah, but Carry Collins was the quarterback the bad quarterbacks that he was a bad quarterback that day from the Giants. He was a good quarterback against Minnesota two weeks before. Yeah, he was a bad quarterback that should have gone to the backup. Yeah. Oh I got the video instead of come on, Bill, That's what you get for a bunch of old guys working on a show. Sorry, Robin, you know, can't get the video to work, can't do anything. They're good?

Why did the video come up? Let me ask you this though, okay outside the box thought, Yeah, trade and Sean Lee? You sound insane? Yeah? I like that. Can I just say this, I am so sick. And I love our fans and everybody who follows us, but I am so sick of the mention every time I tweet about Sean Lee practicing this week? Don't need him? Suit him down. Give me a freaking break, Dude, Mickey looks

like he wants to trade Sean Mike. He's My rhetorical question would be what happens if one of those guys get hurt? Yeah, who's who's got? It's kinda Jordan Lewis, who are you going in there with? Yeah? Because there's no Joe Thomas probably for three three more weeks. I don't think they'll probably say that who's going to go in there when Sean Lee gets hurt? Well, Layton Vanders don't. I don't think some people realize they were doing a

rotation before he got hurt. They were playing all three of these guys, and all three of them will play. And I talked to Marinelli about this yesterday and he said, really, if you extrapolated, there's a big word out for sixteen games. By spreading out the snaps, you're cutting down maybe two games worth of reps in terms of keeping guys fresher, keeping Sean fresher if you've got him for the rest of the shore. So that's the mindset. Yeah, everybody should

benefit from it. Don't give me this progress stopping. But John Lee still the best player, defensive player on your team other than Table's healthy. Yeah, no, I totally it's crazy to act to think like that. It's but his argument or his point was, you're gonna have to trade something to get something. I'm really not talking about the caller. I yeah, yeah, he's thinking outside the box. That's cool. It's more about people thinking. He shouldn't play even though

he's healthy. It's just insanity to me. Are you gonna have to make a decision about Sean Lee at the end of this at the end of the season. Yeah, Oh, he's still in the trek. Still you're still still going with that? Oh yeah, all right, I like it. If that's if you guys are gonna ride with that. I'm not gonna fault you for he's one of your best defensive players. I'm not Yeah, I'm not going down that road at this point. He's still your defensive captain. But

I'm not. Look, the linebackers are playing really well. Yeah, they're playing out standing. Bill, How are you doing over there? Kind of figure out wipe right now? Carry Collins through four interceptions in that Super Bowl. I'm trying to cra cow Strap two. Maybe can you go to the box score? Bill? Well, how don't we go to pa again? You know? All right? We returned with more of talking Super Bowl? What number was that Super Bowl? The Ravens of the two and whatever?

Any trivia is your man? Yeah? Music when it's music. That man's been all over the world. Yes,

No, that's not right. It must be the Hall of Fame. How did we get Parcels the Hall of Fame? He didn't go to the Hall

of Fame, that's right. He wasn't done coaching kind of coach. So why would they have been What would they doing there? You forget two thousand and three to six, Hi didn't too, I'm like, what when is he throwing the coins? Okay, so tell me why those guys were doing it? Then? What were the names? Again? Well you could talk to Mickey, yeah or not? Marcus Allen, Otis Anderson, Tom Flores, and

Bill Parcels. Okay? Was it was a super Okay? Wait, Otis Anderson and Bill Parcels because Tupa Bay Super Bowls. There's Tampa Bay Super Bowls, that Tampa Super Bowls. Tom Floy's coached the Raiders. Marcus Allen, I believe was the MVP. Parcels. Parcels and I think the wide I think the Gary Anderson fuel Gold was in Tampa. The women they're talking

about hypothetical. Yeah, thanks, coach, because parcels were that sweater and it was about ninety degrees probably, yes, yeah, that the blue sweater and he's up you know, yeah, yeah, I think that's they all had something to do with previous Tampa Super Bowls. There you go, all right, good, that makes them a lot of sense, right, ye, not that this show makes a lot of sense. But Okay, there was a great tweet this morning from Bob Toomas. Think about what you're saying here, a great, great tweet.

It was a great tweet our statman b Statman, Dallas Cowboys Radio, Bob Thomas talking about second half drives for Cowboys opponents. Okay, now I gotta find the tweet. Why did I break it up without having the tweet? A well, maybe maybe he brought it up because the Redskins cannot score points in the second half. That's true. They only have twenty four of them. They got twenty four over six games. It's right. Okay, my math tells me that

they've been. They've been. That's right. They had them five. Sorry, so that's five points. Check Out check out what Bob tweeted out this morning about the Cowboys defense holding opponents to an average of one minute, forty seven second drive time, three and a half plays, and five yards on the opening drive of the second half of the six games so far this year, they've resulted in four punts and two fumbles. Yeah. In fact, opponents haven't scored on the

opening drive of either half. Okay, So I did my little research this morning. Remember last year, okay, Cowboys had so many problems in the second half of games. They were awful. Okay, and everyone's talking about halftime adjustments whatever, least for three games in a row. Yeah, okay, So this was my research this morning on the opening drives of the second half. All right. In eight games last season, the Cowboys yielded scoring drives on the opening possession of

the second half. Opponents averaged six minutes, sixteen seconds, eleven plays and seventy four yards, six touchdowns and two field goals on the opening drive of the second half of those eight games. Geez, does that mean opening like that

first possession for the opponent for the third quarter? The first Garrett takes the ball and they get the ball to start a second of the opponents first the opponent's first possession of the third quarter, I mean, that's why scare me out of it, right there, those numbers would scare me out of it. Worked out good for me. But but no, that's not the first drive. I mean,

that's the opponents first. But at least make them play the second position, right, It has nothing to do with deferring or anything like six touchdowns, six touchdowns and two field goals. So half of the games last year, on the opening drive of the second half, the opponents got six touchdowns and two field goals in eight games there the average drive time was six sixteen seventy four yards

in eleven places. Demoralized and then but then this year, in six games so far, the average drive time one forty seven five yards on three and a half plays. They are like three and out every sing three games that that happened to last year, Sure, Atlanta, Philadelphia the Chargers exactly three in a row right there. In fact, they had four straight games Kansas City, Atlanta, Philadelphia and

the Chargers. The opening drive of the second half resulted in a touchdown, Kansas City going sixty two yards and nine plays, Atlanta seventy five and eleven plays, Philadelphia seventy five and eight plays in the Charge of seventy seventy ten plays, which means Kansas City scored back to the back possession exact and the Cowboys won that game. Yeah,

ye luckily. Yeah. So, and you remember in training camp, okay, the Cowboys running winsprints at the end of every practice basically, well not every practice, but that was a point of emphasis about finishing, about finishing and playing better in second half of games. That's been a point of emphasis throughout this off season, in preseason, and now on end of

the season. It's pan dividends. So you're saying they already knew this, Oh yeah, that wasn't I'm thinking their analytics probably said, you know, of course we kind of knew it just watching the games last year. Yeah yeah. Or maybe they shouldn't have rested at halftime. But you know, Mickey's right about this, Washington, the second half inability to score. That's something we get to keep an eye on right there, because what you know, Dallas find a way to build

a lead. Well, I know, you carry this thing in the second half, and the way they've been playing defense. Let me take it another step further. So twenty four points in the second halfs Alex Smith's quarterback rating in the second half is seventy seven point eight as opposed to one oh three nine in the first halfs Yeah, it kind of weather the storm with that guy. Well, okay, Mike, we're gonna make it. Yeah, go for it. My key to the game is flip it around. This offense has

to start faster. They've got nine points in the first half in three road games, three road losses, no touchdowns. I think in the Houston game they had it. They actually had a lead six nothing after the first quarter. Um, but they're just not finishing drives and they've got to be able to do you know, you look at what Washington was able to do against Carolina. We talked about it. They didn't see. Yeah, they didn't run a whole lot Carolina did. Didn't get to what they wanted to do

because they were behind so much. So that's you know, if you if you want Doctor run more, you want to get Zeke involved, you want to do some more zone read stuff, then you better being more of a comfortable position on the scoreboard. And they're just they've got to find some kind of rhythm starting games better offensively.

And by the way, they had a meeting about it. Yesterday, Dak said the team, the offense met as a group to figure out, okay, specifically on third down, what can we do to improve the communications so we function better on the road. Here here, I'll tell you what I might. I like what you said, though, did you pick the game or game pick that point. I think they're they're due for a better road performance. We talked about it. I think they've they've played Washington pretty well these last

few years on the road. I think they, you know, this is their time to get a road win, something like twenty three seventeen. I like, I like what you're saying, though you gotta pick to click, um, Michael Gallup, Okay, like Michael Gallup, we're gonna get this out of We're gonna push it all the way. I like what you said. I and I think too, I like what you're talking

about a road win there as well. And I feel like though the Cowboys are one of the best teams in the league when it comes to getting people off the field, the third, the three and outs. Yeah, they're they're the top top four doing that, you know, And they're one of the better teams that playing on and the reason they they're so good is they play so well on first down? You know, they limit what you

can do. When you talk about the run, you talk about what they do, and then they get you that long yard situation and they sick that rush on you with the blitz as well. I am. I think the one thing they have to worry about are these tight ends. But I don't think Washington could beat you just throwing the ball to the tight end. And so if they could play that part of the game, get that blitz, get the get Alex Smith's eye level down to where

he's looking at the rush. I think Carolina affected him a little bit in that game, especially in the second half. I like what Dallas can do in this game. I got him winning twenty four to thirteen. I don't think Washington is going to be able to score a lot of points, but I think the Cowboys can get some of the things like you said on track and get this thing going. Twenty four thirteen Dallas and they rode win at Washington. Do you like to click Sean Lee.

I think Shawn Lee is gonna make a difference in this game. I always talk about nfc'st killers. This guy right here, he is he has got the bit right clearly between his teeth. This is when it becoming one of those twelve thirteen tackle games for Shawn Lee. So here's how they shut down the tight ends. Okay, ah, Jeff Heath, Jeff Heath, all right, and Cowboys twenty three nineteen twenty or three nineteen, because you you were real

close to it. I was like, oh no, and I'm gonna go twenty seven twenty Cowboys, and I was gonna go Sean Lee. But because I'm not going Sean Lee, believe it or not, I'm going Layton Vander. Yeah. There we go. This room for all of them to eat. Not bad at all, and not that this has anything to do with anything in this game, but the Cowboys have won the last five times at FedEx Field. Yeah, what's your favorite memory from FedEx Field? You wrote a book or not? Can rfk rfk? Probably the only win

in nineteen eighty nine? Oh? Okay? Was it thirteen to three? Yep? Like that? Three? Wow? Steve Walsh. Steve Walsh, you thought you were gonna make boy you've picked out. I did, though, all set for an oh sixteen season and they won one, and then it was just a really awful. So I wouldn't wish that, I wish that on anybody. I really wouldn't. I wanted to be the first. Yeah. Yeah, all those years everybody covered the Cowboys, and that was my first

year to cover them by myself. Okay, And so what's the story on this trip and the and the what the team is doing on going after the game on Sunday, they're going to the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History, and then on Monday, they're going to the National Museum of African American History and Culture. So they're having dinner Sunday night as a team together at the American History Museum and then the African American History and Culture taking

a tour through it on Monday. Well that's impressive. So staying an extra day basically during the bye week. And are you getting to go? We are getting to go to the Monday event. Yeah, we gotta work Sunday. She'll be right right Sunday, that's right. Yeah, And we'll have to figure out when we're doing Talking Cowboys next week. I know, we gotta show Monday, we gotta do all you guys being gone, so we'll figure it out, figure it out all right, we'll see it tuesday. Bill, We'll

see you tuesday for sure. Okay, enjoy the game. We'll talk to you next week. This has been a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
