The following. He's a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club. This is He's talking Cowboys, screaming live from the Dallas Cowboys World Hours at the Star in Frisco. Here are Mickey Spagnola, Bryan Bronis, Rob Phillips, and Bill Jones. Does anybody here know the words to the song Happy Days Are Here Again? I'm willing to say you got a second. Days are here again, Poway. That's pretty good. I'm awake now, Happy Days are here
again for one more week, for another week. That's right. It's a week to week. It is game, isn't it? A strange lady? It is? And the strange lady theory prevails. I like that. Yeah, and how about those cowboys last night? It wasn't bad. Rob Phillips, you got in at one time, Mickey Spagnola, you got in at what time? Walked in the door of my house at five? Here. Did y'all need wings to fly on that airplane? Or did you? Jerry didn't. Jerry sprouted his own wings, right, he did.
Everybody else was sleeping, we were working. Brian brought us. You had a good night last night? Yeah, I got out things. Yeah, I got out of here too, and then got the film done this morning, got back in here at six thirty, so all good to go. Here we are here, we are talking football. Needs more than two and a half three hours sleep. Yeah, I'm raising my hand. We got, we got. I'm not gonna lie to you. We got plenty to talk about here on
Talking Cowboys. We invite your participation as well. And I walked in here or in the studio is dark, and didn't all of a sudden, Rob Phillips a berge from the dark studio. I did not sleep in here. I was trying to get the light on. And that we discussed it though, just just yeah, straight here and yeah. On the flight home, he was bragging about how he used to do that. He used to have a blow up mattress in the old the old ranch in the cave down there in Brad's office. Well, and Kent Garrison
is here. Hello, Kent Garrison. He'll be taking your aid calls. And uh, it's a great morning here at the Star. It is a cold, miserable morning weatherwise, but the sun is shining on your Dallas Cowboys. Let's go around the around the horn here who wants to go first? Go ahead, Mickey, first impression, First impression, yep um capsuleize it. The ability to run the ball efficiently helped out greatly and defensively making key plays at key times. It's not like they
shut down the Eagles offense. They ended up with four hundred and twenty one yards golf. Golf. I had golf on my mind because I just read the thing about the the audible halle Berry halle Berry yea, and I thought that was pretty good. Not back to where I was going. The need of the pin of the Santa Maria right right, we're looking for land. And even though went through for three hundred and sixty yards, they made key plays on third down and fourth down to hold
the Eagles to only twenty points. And the moribund Cowboys put it on the hometown team to the point where the folks were booing. Imagine that they were booing in Philly. Were they were booing, they were fighting. They were getting thrown out of the stadium and fight right in front of us, and the press box happens. That's taking the press box. Yeah, I mean there could that was last time. Yeah. I mean, if you're gonna wear maryon barber jersey to
the game in Philly. You know you're asking for you're asking for it. Man. It's the only place I think I've ever seen fights in the stands where people actually land punches, you know. It's none of that pushing and shoving and ground. Oh no, there's some good fighters and Philly I've seen that. They'll pull that that hockey sweater over your head and start pounding on you. Guys. Let me tell you. Oh my gosh, yeah, absolutely, the elevator trick. They oh no, they will, They'll drop the gloves in
an instant. Yeah, we were going, we were going down after the game, and and and they was Mickey with thirty seconds slept in the game, going, oh I waited till the last second tip ticked away. It was almost over time. You guys talking, Were you cheering in the press box? That's what I want to know. There was none. They behaved themselves been anyway, We're getting on the elevator. The guy goes, I gotta go up before I go down, and he goes, okay, use guys, I take you down,
all right, Rob Phillips, what was your take? Mickey's right, The defense did its thing that was out of character for them last week against Tennessee, particularly on third down. Philly I think was four of ten on third down, saw a lot of dbs. The young DB's making plays. Cheeta Woozier has been in position to make those kind of plays, but made a few in the game. Byron Jones Xavier Woods that was impressive. Gregory getting back into it,
the linebackers. They have so many young players on this defense that were playing well, and that's that's good for the present and the future, especially without Sean Lee. Offensively, whatever they did at the end of the first half, if they could bottle that up for the rest of the season, that would be that would be nice. Raise your hand if you thought they were going seventy three yards to the house after Dak Prescott took a thirteen minus thirteen yards sack on that last drive before the
first half. I thought that was great strategy on his part though by taking that sack then he knew that the Eagles would start calling time out. That would that's what happened, could serve the clock and he wrote a dope that's exactly right, brilliant by number four. He and he had moments in the game where he was I mean that drive a couple chunk plays gallup Beasley, hearns.
I mean, that was his best drive of the season for him, and it got the offense, got the offense going in addition to what Zeke was doing with the hurdle and all that. But um, the offense showed flashes of what it could be. And I think a lot of it started up front with the way they played up front, did a really nice job up front. Brian brought us that games should have been an ass kicking for the Dallas Cowboys. That should have been they left some plays on the field, you know, yeah, and you know,
and we talked about it. Mickey brought it up in the Tennessee game, the opportunity, and I was kind of like scoffing at Mickey first, saying, now, they should have had seventeen points, but they had Philadelphia little I thought they had Philadelphia on the ropes kicking those two field goals and stuff like that. Missing a field goal that's
just like a turnover right there. As well. You can't have that think about that though, that that that game should not have been by the way that game at the very end and I'm not going to get an official talk, but how do you miss a facemasking penalty on that last play in the last drive and they're trying to kill the clock. John Perry and his crew should be a shame for missing that one. That one
could have ended the game right there. We could have not even had to deal with that final flurry of plays. But that game should have been an ass kicking for the Cowboys. I'm glad they won. I'm happy that they won, you know, I'm happy for the players and the coaches in the front office that they won. But that that that that the way that Dallas played, I thought on both sides ball, Yeah, you can give up all the
yards you want, but they didn't give up points. They had two first down stops, they faked punts, They did whatever they had to do to win that game. But you know they also left some plays out there. Man, Dak Prescott, if he could just have hit Cooper Amari Cooper down that sideline, man, that's a that's they got. They got Rusul Douglas beat clear release boomed down the field. You know, they were throws he missed, especially earlier, and he played well. He played well. He played well, he
fought his butt off and that's what he is. He's gonna miss some throws, He's gonna make some throws the inside three. I counted fourteen times that Sue Filo had uh Fletcher Cox on his nose in that game. He didn't give up anything. I mean, there were a couple of little pressure where he had to push Fletcher Cox
passed the pass the quarterback. But if you're talking about him just lining up and playing and passed past situations and being good at him Martin coming back in the game, you know, I mean the line I thought did a great job in that game. But I've just they could have They could have they could have hammered Philadelphia. You know, it's a shame that they let him get back into singing.
It was a close game at the end, But that doesn't because I said, it would have been even more impressive to go up there and get to win the way they did. But at the same time it was it's it maybe bode well for them going down the road by on the road, having you know, facing adversity in the second half of the game and still figuring
out those plays. Bill, go make those plays. You know, those are those are those are you know this this OC has taken a lot of crap, you know, for his play calling, you know, and they're talking about his job and all that. You know, and I'm one of the guys talking about his job and all that. But you know, when he does do something right, figure out a way to help him out a little bit, you know. And and and hey, those guys still aren't out of the woods. But this game should not have been as
close as it was. Dallas clearly outplayed Philadelphia on both sides of the ball and on special teams other than the miss the missfield goal. But having said that, the Eagles did drive in the second half to score touchdowns and shouldn't have been close and get back in the game. You mean to stay in the game. Yeah, you know, so I don't. I'm I'm I'm the point that that Dallas. I think that if Dallas gets those early points, I
think this is a different Yeah. I mean, if you get up, you're not gonna you know, I expected Philadelphia to play well offensively, I did. I mean, I'm not consider it. I mean, Carson wins, you know, he's gonna throw the football. Let's not be stupid here. I mean, he's gonna throw the ball and make plays. Well, we talked about Dak missed some opportunities early and it was kind of a here we go again thing early in the game for the offense because they had a penalty
on the special teams right before their first drive. They had some some penalties that backed them up. Sacks Zeke. I think his first seven carries, he got twenty five yards and it's like, oh, it's gonna be another one of these tough sledding games on the road, and then he busted through with that hurdle play and then here we go. So that was a four point play too, by the way, Yeah, that could have That was another missed opportunity. But they had to kick a field goal there,
you know. And and earlier on that drive they had to do the fake pun just to keep the driving going. Yeah. Good and good, you know. Good for Garrett if it if it takes, if it takes adversity this way to maybe think about the way to operate game, good for him. If if that's the way he's going to coach the rest of the way. By all means, I'm all for it. How surprised were you that they were going forward on first on fourth down at their own forty yard line early in the game, had a shot, had had some
good plays called too. Jess Swam doesn't move. They're gonna get that that fourth down conversion. But how surprised were you that they went ahead and went for it? And the press box we said we were a little surprised because that was a full yard at least, you know, it wasn't like a fourth and two. They faked that punt with fourth and two. That really wasn't a close I mean, yea deeper and they were back at their own thirty Yeah, exactly exactly. I applaud the way that
the coach was. It was um it was preparation because they had to play called and Heath had to read it right. I mean, if it's there, it's out there, then they go ahead and punch. He did a smart thing too by running behind. He ran behind olda wally, which is a guy who's normally used to block an inside. He did a great job and knocking his guy and march Luller turned his guy, so it game a nice little crease inside. He also put his head down and
rammed him by. I asked him about it. He goes, they better not have called that after all the times I've been rammed by the running back putting his head down and running me over right, And I'll give some credit to Keith O'Quinn on that too. That special team scored. Yeah, it was good preparation. They saw something. They said, Okay, if this happens and we get in this situation, then let's go. So the preparation was almost as important as
the execution. You know that the drive that Rob you were talking about at the end of the first half. You know, we'll see where they go from here, if they can went on the road at Atlanta, if they can get on a roll. You remember the Prescott's rookie season at Green Bay, right before the half, they had like a ninety ninety five yard drive, ran a jet sweep and Lucky Whitehead caught a pass and then they finished it off with Bryce Butler. Yeah, I mean those
type Uh. It just when you were talking about that, it reminded me of that drive and that was critical too in the in the middle of that season, getting on that eleven game win streak, is it gave him a belief that they could win on the road. They can play, you know, and I can't. Kind of it jump started this team as far as it's kind of thinking that Jacksonville was going to be that moment. Yeah,
I did too, thought jackson That's why I say. And the more I think about it, Mickey, you're right, congratulations, Jeff fraud. They're a fraud. They got beat again. He's right. Yeah, it's right. They're frauds very much. And you know what. The other fraud was the Philadelphia run defense. I told
you no one ran against them. They faced the least amount of runs of the league against themselves, and they couldn't they you know, it looked like it was gonna be tough sledding early and then they found some runs that started to work and got Zeke in the open field. Couldn't cover anybody too. Yeah, well, they ran out very evident. They had an undrafted rookie on Cooper by the end of the game, didn't they. Yeah. It was bad. That was bad for them. That's what you got to do, though,
when somebody's down like that. Yeah, just punish them, you know. I mean they were going three four a couple of times they went four wide. Yeah, okay, the tight end go sit on the back if you're not going to have good enough players as backups, take advantage of that, and I think they did that last night. One more thing about that drive though, before the half. Dak perfect on that drive for seventy seven yards. I think he had one, two, three, five completions, no timeouts, no timeouts,
had the up the middle sneak for the touchdown. I mean, that's that's Dak that we've seen in the past, you know, last year probably. I mean, they haven't had a drive like that anywhere close to that on the road except maybe latent games when they're already down. That was really impressed. It was kind of where did this come from? Moment? You know, And they were able to game ten weeks in th about that, right, Yeah. I mean now I'm looking at it, I'm like, how can they Yeah, yeah,
because that's that's what they need. Land is bad in the secondary, maybe Marii Cooper. That's that's a huge get right there. He's gonna win on routes, isn't he. He's gonna win on routes, and he's also pulling coverage tone well, he's he's he's winning on routes and you know, what he's doing. He's those other guys around him are starting to realize that they can go make some plays. Yeah, that freaking screen that they threw out to gallop and a short field like that, you know, into the boundary.
That shouldn't have worked, but it did because that kids got great balance. And third and fifteen explodes and they get the they get the lineman out quick enough. You know, that's just a that's just a good play, right hey. And it's not only third and fifteen. They don't get the first down. That play happened with fifty eight seconds left. They get stopped there and the Eagles have a chance to go down. It's like it was at the end of the game. That's why they were calling time out.
In fact, in fact that drive started. I said to whoever I was with watching watch in the game, I said, okay, a minute thirty three left, Okay, when it got down to think and the Cowboys finally we're gonna score, I mean, or they were gonna at least kick a field goal, I said, okay, So at the beginning of this drive, with one thirty three left, did you think it was a better chance that the Cowboys were gonna score or the Eagles were gonna score a touchdown before they have it.
It looked like after the sack and facing third and fifteen that the Eagles were probably were going to score a touchdown. I mean, I figured it was it's gonna be six to three at halftime and first team to twelve wins. You know, another one of those just grind it out game. It turned out to be kind of a back and forth contest. Yeah, how about Alan Hearns making a couple of big plays, So it's two weeks
in a row now that you know. He had the big double move for the touchdown and then he gets that thing down on the goal line, note gets open, great protection up front, they handled the twist stunt. You know. It's just that's what you gotta have. And that's that's what he is, Alan Hearns. Yeah, Yeah, he's a reliable. He's not a number one guy. He's a reliable, steady guy.
He could have packed it in once they got once they got Amari Cooper, he could have said, Okay, that's it, but there's a role for him here and right absolutely he does. And that heck of a catch by Cole Beasley on that drive too. I mean, how many times, but it's eighteen yards down the sides. You know, you're throwing a ball to a guy on the outside. That's five to eight to go. Get that like that in tight space? Okay, yeah, yeah, well done. Hearn's only had
fifteen plays, but he made the use up. Yeah. Well, that's what I'm saying. He's he's incredible when it comes to making plays like that. You know. I mean, you're right, Bill, He's probably not a number one wide receiver, but you know what's he's a better Terrence Williams is what he is. If you're gonna make two or three plays a game, go make two or three big plays a game and
the quarterback can depend on him. Yeah, he's trustworthy as far as being run of the right routes and you know Ben and where he the quarterback thinks he's gonna be. You know, you know what I didn't realize about Cooper. He's a little bigger than I thought he was was. And he runs the ball hard. Well. We talked about that though, didn't we. I mean, I know, I mean how he breaks tacklesby you know, he bounced off of him. It was a couple of times they It almost reminded
me of Dez. It's like they didn't want to He had that catch in the red zone before their second touchdown against Tennessee where you're gonna have to gang tackle the guy to get him down, and that they haven't had a guy like that since Dez. They really haven't. And Pete des a guy that's going top speed over the middle of the field and you gotta find a way to bring him down. Now they can figure out how to hit those deep balls, be really good. He was open. You know what you got, You know what
you gotta. And the thing about him is is if he if he's even with the dB, he's open because he pulls away. He pulls away like the mid stream whatever it was, the stream, and he went fast. I was going with you until you said stream fishing reference. You know, Okay, sleep, did you get sleep? Did you get two and a half hours? All right? Did you
notice that he's gotten two a half hour? Sleeper's at the same, old mickey, he's actually doing better than I. Wh we get to the reds Oh, they are fast approaching. In football, often the quickest plays mixed with some good old fashioned ingenuity are the key to winning. Kind of like Tommy John's horizontal QuickDraw fly Bryan. It's the most intuitive, simple and speedy feature that other underwear brands just don't have. The shop exclusive Cowboys Underwear at Tommy John dot com Ford slash Cowboys, all right, was very good and we found the card. We got him. Yep, so there's no excuses. MI twenty minutes had to quick draw at link yesterday?
What what say? The quick draw flight? Yeah, you had it. You had to use them in Okay, jeez, you guys, keep up. Come on one that didn't have any sleep, Mickey, I'm over here with you, Brian. Brian understood. I totally understood where he was going with that. I was standing in the bathroom with the link and he was reading the wall. There's some pictures or something up one. Yeah, that's the weirdest bathroom in you know. Okay, I've ever seen really enough potty talk. Yeah, where are we going?
Where are we going? Is how they all the photos had around the stadium or against the Cowboys too. I noticed that. I did not notice that. Yeah, pay attention to that. But you know what, same thing in Washington when you first walked in the press. That's true. It's all those covers with them beating the Cowboys, kind of like Texas A and M and ut M. Right, Robin, can't you know what a fight song that I remember? Don't get me started on that they needed. They need
to change a lot of things. They need to change that too. All this started because of a quick fly talk. I'm sorry, I tried. I tried, didn't You didn't get it out of the Yeah, you want to go to the phone lines. Yeah, let's see what Cowboys Nation is saying about last night's victory in Philadelphia to want to fire the code Spencer in Maryland, Hello Spencer, Hey guys, good morning. How are you doing. Good morning? Hey guys, real quick um. Watching the game last night, I guess
I'm playing late last night. I get to kind of see everybody playing them, watching other teams play, other offenses play, And this kind of question for Brian because he brought it up before. Dad, you have said that some quarterbacks have to see it before they get rid of it. We watched the broadcast last night and just talking about how that kind of tends to see it whole a
little bit too long. Is there something that they can do for him to where eats a faster he gets rid of it, or is this difin his DNA, Like, what do you guys think is the best way to help him in this case, because it's you know, if he gets rid of the quicker we got, let's hold new calls you, less negative plays, less sacks, et cetera, et cetera. I guess they need more tact to run.
So it's one of we just thoughts on you know what that is and what they can do to help him out, Thanks guys, Or do you think I think I think they have. I think they have helped him. I think they have it by getting receivers like we were talking about that can get open and he's going to be able to evaluate that on tape and see that. He's going to trust those guys a lot more throwing that football. You know, he's not going to have to worry about some tight window throws and stuff like that.
You know, the wall he did like and Chris Collinsworth that they met made a good point because then I said, I wonder if he's right about this, because I went back and watched the end zone copy of the play that he tried to throw to Gallop on the side side lines early in the game, and he did. He hitched, he hitched, he hitched, and then he threw it. You know,
when I'm sitting there thinking, Okay, Collinsworth was right. I don't always agree with Collinsworth, but in that case, right there, because if you watch the break the Gallop, Haad, if the ball was to the sidelines, he's got a shot. I noticed that. You got you gotta get rid of that, just yeah, and then you know, and that was like he was holding. He was holding, he was holding. He was just waiting for Gallop to get opening. But if he throws the ball there, you know, and give him
a chance. You know, the guy made an incredible play to go get it. But I think that the way that they help him, the best way they help him, is you have receivers that are able to separate. And I think that's where he will develop more confidence that, Okay, I could throw the ball there and that guy is gonna be there, whereas before I didn't think he had that confidence. Yeah, I mean he threw a kind of threw to a spot and that pick in the end zone last week against Tennessee. I mean that was an
overly aggressive throw with pressure to his new receiver. You know, he took a he took four sacks in the game, and a couple of them. I think we're on him for holding the ball a little too long. No, absolutely, to be able to let it fly a little bit. But again he battled back. And you know, one or two point eight quarterback rating, it's hard to argue with that. Yeah, well, what what should be the completion percentage? A good completion
percentage for your quarterback. He's at sixty three percent in a game? What was he coming into the game, That's what I want to know. Yeah, it was round sixty three. To be that's not good enough, you have to be okay, but what was it? What was it last night? He was twenty six? At thirty six? You do the man, you know what that is. But I don't know. Seventy two percent. Can you live with your quarterback completing seventy two percent of your passes if he does it every week? Yeah?
I can, okay, But the criticism just now was last night I'm just pointing out that it wasn't perfect. No, he's not perfect, but quarterback is perfect. He completed seventy two percent of his pass What do you do about his anticipation in his ability to read it? He still completed seventy two percent of his passes. We're in week ten and he completed seven two percent of his passes. Okay, so he should have been eighty. I just went on for five minutes about that drive before the half. I
know what, what did the what? The narrative just become. Now the narrative he doesn't anticipate. Okay, I get it. But seventy two percent of his passes were completed. He played a terrific game. He did. He is, but he wasn't perfect. And in his career he's sixty five percent. He sixty four percent this year. He was sixty seven point eight percent his first year. So there are the numbers on Dak Prescott. All right, let's go to Ernesto
in Virginia. You're next up on Talking Cowboys. Ernesto, good morning, gentlemen. Thanks for taking my call. First off, um, I know a lot of people were upset about the Amori trade because of first round tick is a big price. But if you look at what this for receiving corps has done in a short time he's been there, they got some juice to them. If you look at last week, Alan Hearns has shown up on the in the game.
Even Deonte Tonson when he was playing last week, actually made a catch, didn't bobble it and have it be intercepted. Last night, Alan Hearns again shows up, Michael Gallop showing up. So Amari Cooper is doing more for the team than just being a number one receiver. He's bringing some juice. The other thing I liked the Connor Williams pick. The thing about Connor Williams and his development needs to occur in the off season through strength and conditioning. Xavers Suafilo
didn't kill you last night. They actually looked pretty good in my opinion, considering if Davis Suafilo continues to hold up pretty good against good defensive fronts, do you think they ride with him the rest of the year and let Connor will Hims get the off season to get that strength felt up and then plug him in next year. Thanks Ernesto, That's a good question without a lot of that On Twitter, last night. Yeah, Brian, did uh you
have a chance to look at Xavier Sue? She was good? Yeah, he's good, And to use Mickey's line, he's not perfect. But you know, but what what you needed in that game and the decision that they made in that game is they went power over athletic ability. Is what they did because they could. Redmond wasn't bad either when the few plays that he actually played, they missed a couple of twist stunts that they probably needed to pick up,
which caused Dak a little problem. But other than that, though, I mean, I sue, Philo, the one thing he's gonna give you, he's gonna give you strength. He's going to give you a lot of effort, you know, and he's going to try and finish plays. And you know, this is where they're at though right now, is that you know, you see him have a good game. But to me, I don't see them. I see as soon as Connor Williams is healthy that they put him back in there.
I don't. I don't see them is saying okay, that we're just gonna leave the rookie on the sidelines, you know, and not allow him. You know, you've made this journey this far. Now, maybe people argue with me out there and say, yeah, but the offense functioned better better with him in there. At least, the blocking was better. Run game was dominant up front. But it might be go to Mickey's point that that the Eagles defensive line or
run game was not very good. You know, maybe I feel I thought he did a good job of getting on the second level. He was getting to the linebackers. He had a couple of times where he popped and fell off, but at least he was getting Now when they they combo block some stuff and he got some really nice push and you know, but I just I just don't see them. Maybe it's a situation like what happened with Dak two years ago, three years ago, that
all of a sudden, guys playing pretty well. Let's see, he's gonna probably have to play this week against Atlanta. I would think, so, yeah, and maybe later and then yeah, and then you turn around. I mean, Connor Williams's least played. But you know, I think it's a fair question. But I just don't see them. I just don't see them going back. Yeah, I mean this, this guy's going to be part of your line for a long time. That's
their plan. So he hurt his confidence by keeping him down on the bench when he's healthy, Once he's healthy, I don't I don't know, but I do know that this is as dominant as they were up front, especially for Zeke's It wasn't Zeke's career high or season high. I think Detroit he had a little closer to two hundred yards all purpose, but yards per carry were incredible. Yeah, they controlled the line of scrimmage for the most part, and Dak had a lot of time to throw in
this game, especially in the second half. Now about some props for Will McClay and his staff for finding a Xavier Sue Uppilo out there. Yeah, and yeah, and Adam Redmond for that matter, when they had issues when Travis Frederick went down. Two different type of bodies right there. You know, with Redmond, he's more looks more like what Connor Williams. And of course we saw what Sue Filo.
I mean, that's but you know, Sue Hey, Suephila got to practice a little bit last week the on really on well Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and he and and Tyren Smith looked really comfortable playing next to each other and that and that's let me, let's be honest, Sue. Philo does not get a lot of work during the week.
He's been been an active every single game. So for him to come in there and plug right, and that just shows you though a veteran guy forty one starts, Yeah, a veteran guy comes in there and does his job. You know, that's what you need. And Garrett I wasn't in for Jason the press conference, but I wonder it was the matchup a factor too, you know, the power question,
no question. He said that when we typed his h pregame radio show that one part of the decision was he's a little bit bigger and we were going up against a big front. Yeah, and he goes also the fact that he had the experience, he's played in big games, he's been in city situations like going into Philadelphia forty
some odd starts in his career. And then and then the other part was if you started him, then you left Redman in his situation right that way, if there was if you started Redman and there was an injury to Looney, then he's got to move over, and then somebody else had got to move in there. So, as it turned out, the fact that they gave both guys some reps in practice last week help when Redman had to come in and play thirteen plays when Zach Martin
went out, at least he had practiced a little. That's what it was, thirteen plays, I believe. Yeah, yeah, so so yeah, it almost ended up badly for them. Oh it's Zach Martin when that when that? When I saw that, I was like that, that that's it. Same knee that he's been dealing with too. But you know, he's kind of he's kind of taking the Jason Witten mantle of a captain that's just gonna fight his ass off and stay out there no matter what, you know, tough guy.
And then and then you know, the same thing happened with Collins. It was the same knee, and you know, when he went down, it looked like, oh, this is it. And when I was talked to him, I said, I said, did you think you're gonna be able to come back? He goes, well, I had to. I go, what do you mean you had to if you couldn't come back? He goes, you got to be a dog man. Yeah, And he goes, I couldn't sit in there. Well, they moved and they moved Crawford inside and he got a sack. Yeah,
you know that was something that was good. I mean, that just shows you once again, Crawford, he's got the sea patch on his jersey, and that's for a reason. You look at all the guys that had to play in that game, the captains, and what they had to do, and the place, well, the place that they had to make in that game. He has a lunch pail in his hand. He basically, you know, he kind of transitioned back to end and then here he goes back inside. And I think he was asked about it after the game.
He said, look, y'all know what I do. Yeah, it's whatever is asked to me. I'll just move around whatever you guys need me to do. It was truly Veterans Day. Yeah. Oh, Mickey said, all right, at the end of the season, when you look back at that game, what is the signature. I'm not gonna say moment, but signature. Uh and I'm not gonna say highlight either. What will you remember from that game the most at the end of the season.
Zeke's hurtle, Zeke's hurtle there's one other thing. I think the I think the play that Heath made, because that might have saved your seat, that might have saved your season right there, the tackle on Yeah, And I know people talk about I know people talk about the the play that that that vander Esh made. And by the way, his interception was a great read on his part too. He did a nice job of dropping the zone and being there and never saw him, never saw him, never
saw him. And but you know, Jeff Heath, the thing that you could have worried about there is because they were trying to trade out matching up Woods with Ernest, you know, and you're just you have trouble covering that guy. He's just that's the way he is. But you you, you're, you're I think you're very fortunate you had a bigger, taller,
stronger guy. And not that Woods didn't play well, but did you had Jeff Heath in that situation right there to make the play because his ability to be long enough and strong enough and have a little core strength about him kept zach Ertz from getting that ball, catching it cleanly and then driving him away from the sticks. Maybe if you have Xavier Woods in that situation, he doesn't make that playton He might make the tackle, but
it's probably gonna be for a first down. I thought Heath was on him most of the most of the game, and man, yeah they had, but their problem was when they went and zoned. Yeah, that's what I'm saying there. They tried to kind of switch some things around with him though a little bit, and that Oh he had a big night though. Well it was like, do you realize who he throws the ball to, you know, like
on the touchdown? Yeah, Damien Wilson's probably supposed to hit him off the line of scrimmage and he whiffs and then he's like, oh I should chase him. Yeah, no one else covered him. Yeah, it's pretty easy pitch and catch on when that happens. I mean, it's like he led the team in receptions and running wide. I mean for the season two Yeah, fourteen catches out of sixteen targets one forty five. Wow? Did that? Didn't he do that in the last game of the year last season?
I mean, didn't they play the game in Philadelphia? He wouldn't have played in that one played? Or was it? Was it the meaningless game? The meaningless game for Dallas. Then the year before I thought he had fourteen fifteen catches. You know, there's a reason why he is. He's a great player, he really is. Plus he catches the ball
no matter where it's thrown. Yeah, I got a big catch radius, as they say, But vander Ish and I'm not selling specifically that play, just the overall game that vander Ish had is to answer my own question at the end of the season, I think I'll look back at that Philadelphia game and just the way Vandersch was flying all over the place and the interception and so forth. Year tell you what vander he played like that? Yeah,
Jalen Smith played well too. Now yeah, I mean you know on that play that Vandersch and when you guys go back and watch it, watch MALIEK. Collins and Jalen Smith both get take angles to where Okay, it's a loss of five, but it's a good chance that if if he doesn't make the tackle, Jalen Smith's gonna make the tackle or MALIEK. Collins is gonna make the tackle right there. I mean, they're an angle in the pursuit
to make the play. So give all those guys a lot of credit for running into the ball the way they do a fourth down stop. Jalen had first half too, well, that was that was that was all about the DeMarcus Lawrence. He just destroyed. He destroyed that Vitai, that right tackle, you know, and we talk about this Colin assume Lawrence doesn't get enough credit the way he plays the run right and he he abused. And then all of a sudden you got Smith and Lewis. They beat their blocks,
Aguilar and Ernst. We're talking about Ernst. Ernst can't block a lick, you know, he can't, but he's gonna make every single catch. But good job on those two guys. Of of Lewis, and then also Smith getting inside and beating the beating the blocks to get there, by the way arts. In that game two years ago, the meaningless game of the Cowboys, he had thirteen catches, one hundred and thirty nine yards in two touch there you go stats. Yeah, so he went fourteen one forty one or something like that.
One day they're gonna have an honor for him, you know, and they're gonna talk about games he played against the Cowboys, and it's gonna be the all time. Like Jason wit Witt, versus the Giants. Snacker it go. Yeah, he's gonna be the Cowboy killer, that's what he is. His picture he'll be up at the link. Yeah, it will against the Cowboys. That's right. Is Witten's picture without his helmet running down the field in Philadelphia? Is that at the link too?
I don't think so. Okay, that's not there. No number one? Was it number one? It was number one? All right? Oh yeah, I tried at fifth. Yeah, y'all were way different, so it was hard to like play off of what y'all voted, you know, But a lot of good moments. I had a couple more writed moments, and the guys ignored the Michael Michael Irving moment. That that was that when that happened, I hate to regress back to some but it was a good thing you did. But that
was the end of the Dallas Cowboys as we knew it. Yeah, when that happened in nineteen ninety nine, that was that was the end of it. Day. Yeah, three and one at the time. And when he was laying on that rail three and oh, that's right, three and oz and when he was laying on that field, that was the end of the Dallas Cowboys. For that Cowboys might have laid right down with That's when we went on the

the way, I barely even watched that game, did you really? Yes? Well you are probably better off too, nervous. You know, I'm a family. I'm out. I'm out on them, Are you out? Yeah? What good thing? They change defensive coordinators too. By now, because I can't watch this defense anymore. It's it used to be a time you guys played defense. Yes, exactly when we when we were winning national championship, played defense. We had great defenses. Yeah, and so I'm not going
to invest in this. You know, I care about him all that stuff, but I'm not going to invest my valuable time in watching this trash. I feel so bad for you. You're the one team that can beat Alabama, and yet there is absolutely no way that can happen with that defense. I wish I have no they they can outscore them, though, they can out they can outstand. If the quarterback throws a good pass, they get beat. Yeah. That that that Cornelius. That was I hate the call spa.
It was a horrible pass. I hate sprint ride option. It bribed me so much of Atlanta against Philadelphia last year. Why do you run the short side of the field and why do you go for two? That's my question, you know what. I applaud him for doing that, though his team is not better than your team. I agree, I agree, but me but I've seen our defense and I'm not gonna why why do it on one play where your quarterback might make a bad pass? He saw if you got four chances, Yeah, he saw the first time.
You're you don't wish I could be out on a nine and one football team. What do you think they were at the double last week? Yeah? We did. They went in five and four. They had nothing to lose. Yeah, yeah, right. Uh. And by the way, I saw something this morning. You know they call that bedlam when Oklahoma plays Oklahoma State, they now call her are They now call it bellum because there's no d jez I like that though. It's like no whiskey. When you first started, they called him Irk,
no d D and Dirk. Yeah that's a dad joke. When Osharan took over at LSU and they called him oh oh, for no points. Oh, but now doing a pretty good job and doing a decent job. Sugar Bowl here we come, all right, what else? What other takes do you have? Where do you want to go there? In this last segment about Sunday night in the victory over the Eagles, which direction you want to go here? So? Was this a flash in the pan? Or can they
continue doing this? Okay? Looking forward? Looking forward to seeing Atlanta, because I'm hearing that they've had they're having a lot of problems with their past defense like this, like six straight games that they've allowed three touchdown passes. Would they give up to Cleveland yesterday twenty eight points? Right? Was it? Was it final twenty sixteen or something like that. I'm sorry if I didn't get that right. Baker Mayfield is
feeling dangerous. They they've they've had some problems defensively now again, has I don't think they're I don't think their guy has caught a touchdown yet this season? No, No, he did last week? Did you last week? Broke? So it's one touchdown the street? Yeah, one touchdown? Julio Jones. Julio Jones, Yeah, no, he got Yeah he did last week. He got it. But yeah, you're right, he hasn't. I don't know. I just I just think the Cowboys have to continue to
be playing with aggressiveness. I think they spiration aggressives. Whatever you want to say, whatever, how were you practiced last week? Bring that to the practice field again this week. That's why that I keep going back to that drive before the half that was aggressive, just urgency up the field, pace, tempo. They you know, they bottled it up for one drive and it kind of carried over to the second half.
You go, so I'm carrying it over. I'm figuring when they got down they're gonna spike it, right, And Dak said when he was running down there and saw how close it was, yeah, it was like okay. It was kind of a romo ischem, It's like, okay, let's go for it, right because they were out of timeouts. Yeah that was that was oh no, oh yes, yeah, that's me. Yeah, spike it. Yeah, that all of a sudden when I
saw him line up and Philadelphia wasn't quite set. They did a great job too, because the only person they had they had they had Michael Bennett playing is really in the gap and that's where they blew that thing open to that side. Bennett's just not strong enough to go in there and play toe to toe. And they knocked Bennet back, they knocked Malcolm Jenkins back, and they got Fletcher Cox to turn. And so, yeah, give those
guys a lot of credit. I mean, those three guys inside guys came off the ball and really the Dak reached the ball, but he really didn't have to. If he'd just falling forward, he was going to score. The way that they blew that thing open, good view right there by Ken Garrison showing you how they were able to.
If you're watching along with this, So do you think do you think when you're running down field like that that you can actually hear, like if anybody's telling you spike it or go for it, can can you hear? Or is it just drilled into you the part of the situation. Yeah, they drill it during the week because he didn't really answer that part of the question, but it sounded like he made the decision when he got
to the line of scrimmage. But let's go, how is the question post like, was anybody telling you what to do? Because he's running full speed down the field trying to get lined up right, Yeah, And I don't know if they're screaming at I think. I think the thing I think the decision that he made was he didn't allow Philadelphia to get there their goal line person change. They
couldn't change. It was a seventeen yard pass, so they couldn't get their personnel on the field, you know, to to stop right, because the Cowboys were in at that point, they were in three They were in three tight ends, I believe. So you think, okay, with that matchup, we go ahead and just roll it. Yeah, just roll with it and go yeah, absolutely smart, heads up and if you get stopped, they okay it was came. The touchdown came with nineteen seconds left. Yeah, so he hadn't time.
If he got stopped, they could have spiked. Because everyone's on the line of scrimmage. It's not like a play where you're receivers downfield and so you can easily get set back up or your offensive lineman got a run for twenty yards, right, Yeah. What did you thinks think about the end of the game though, the past that went down the middle of the field to earth though, I mean, I was like, I was nervous that they
were knocking tackle him there. I was jobbed by the defense and then he laterals and I'm like going, oh God to Golden Tate yea of all people. Yeah, and I'm thinking, thinking they just give this away. Yeah, you know, I mean it was scary moments. Those our scary moment. I hate that picket fence defense, yeah, because you allow him to get a running start and he only and only rushed three guys, so that means he's got all
day to decide what he's gonna do with it. Just couldn't get anybody home though at the end, and they had it. They mean he stepped up a couple of different times, but I don't know how he held down to the ball. At one time Lawrence hit him, Yeah he had it one handed. Yeah, he gotta be a fumble r Oh. We've seen this guy do that. Remember his rookie year. Jeff Heath hit him on the back side one time and he just almost like Aaron Rodgers,
you know, I mean, held on and pulled it. I mean, I'm like, go on, how did that ball not or it might have been it might have been might have been Orlando Scandrick hit him on a blitz on the back side and he he just kept it and he tucked it, and I'm like, how do you just go along that? Yeah? This strong handed guy, no question or no first baseman's mits for hands and not to get back to you what you're what you posed there making
about carrying this forward, sustaining it. Okay, not to get too far ahead of ourselves, but you got Atlanta and you got Washington. I mean you're sitting there. You got to be five and five and to get into that Washington game, yeah, I think you can come out if you can win the next two. You're sitting there six and five. Who's Washington got this week? They got? I just looked it up. My they've already had their bye weeks. They play Houston, Houston, they play Houston, and I mean
it's coming off of bye. I think they want sixth straight Washington. Boy, they were gifted some things against Tampa Bay. Tampa five hundred yards of offense, did I hear? And three points? That's the first time and how long that's happed through for four hundred yards at any any and every time we got critical Fitzpatrick just either fumbled the ball through an interception. I didn't see the game. So, but I know Atlanta, I know Atlanta's coming up. They
have a great talent on offense. But Washington has had trouble manufacturing points. It didn't happen again yesterday. They're dealing with injuries on the offensive line. This division is still it's still there. I mean, you're sitting there, you're sitting skating by, you're sitting here looking at it. Okay, if the Cowboys can win at Atlanta, such different talk than we had last week. If the Cowboys can win at Atlanta. Yeah, and let's say Houston wins over Washington, set it up.
That's the Cowboys. The Cowboys, if they beat the Redskins, would be tied for the division lead at six and five with Eagles are playing New Orleans coming in. Yeah, with New Orleans coming in and the Eagles are playing at New Orleans, I mean, they could conceivably be four and six right there. It's it's there. It's not pretty at all. But putting in a call to the to
the to the NFL officials or replay guy. Even if Philadelphia goes into New Orleans and wins, and then they got the Giants the next week at the end of Thanksgiving, weekend, it could be a three way tie for first place at six and five. Sure. I thought the best stat they gave out in the broadcast last night was that Philadelphia, out of their last seven opponents, five of them are in first place. Yeah. Wow, yes, Washington, Houston. See, they've had some bad losses, Caroline. No, uh, they got to
play Houston, yeah, um, got the Rams in there, Rams. Yeah, and there's one more they've got to play that's in the first place. So yeah, it's tough being the guy everybody's going after, right, a little different than last year. But you know that that banner up there doesn't give you seven points to start the game. Yep. No, but the banners there, it's there. There, it's there. No, you know, I just we all in agreeance that, uh that they're going to have to win the division to get in
the playoffs. Yeah. Yeah, there's no way. There's no way. I mean, so yeah, you just you know, now, it's it's pretty simple to me what they have to do, because it's not okay, go watch other people and do this and do that. You know, you just got to take care of your game. I mean, between Minnesota and Carolina, you're not gonna overtake the playoffs with Seattle's four and five now as well, so that maybe the second wild card will not come out of the come out of
the West. So your second wild card could come. It's probably gonna be one out of the North and one out of the South South. Right, Yeah, you got right now, Okay, let's talk playoffs. Ye, playoffs. The Panthers are six and three in second places and they beat you, and the Vikings are five three and one in second place in the North. Chicago leads the North and they travel the
Soldier Field this weekend to play a game. Yeah, there's there's a lot of good teams in the NFC, I mean, so and and a team like Carolina has a win over you, um and there, you don't need Atlanta to have a win over you, right, I mean, that's the easiest way, is just climb out of this hole in the division, and the division win it with nine wins or whatever. It's gonna take eight wins, who knows saying. The other thing is is the Redskins and the Eagles
haven't played yet. They still got to play twice, so there's two losses there for somebody somewhere along the lines. They gotta have two losses, so they just gotta take care of yourself, right right. It's hard to believe we're talking about this this Mory. We are. We are condressed because last week we were burying them right season on the brink. Well it was, it was it was it's still on the brink. Yeah, and that's one thing that
they got. He's got to the coaches have to make sure that the players realized that they didn't do anything. You know, they just survived another week, you know, and now they got to keep doing it. And that was some of the guys in the locker room. We're like, okay,
but we got to move forward. Yeah, okay, this is over with And that's kind of you know, everybody gets mad at Garrett for being unemotional and you know, and but you got you gotta stay out and even keel Yeah after the game, absolutely, But but you can't sit there and act like you just won the world. Oh they were the better team last night. Dallas was the better team. They sure were they were, and the Eagles were sure doing a lot of selfies in the end
zone after scoring touchdowns and stuff. You know, I'm sitting there going I thought Doug Peterson was the coach that always likes to go for two and win the game right now. And I'm sitting there going, well, why aren't they going for two when they pulled it within one point with seven minutes left in the game. Well, the whole offense is in the end zone taking a selfie, so they can't go for two. I guess they missed.
Isn't that what the analytics They all the analytics, they all say that you're supposed to go for two now because Doug Peterson is so smart that he goes for two. You know, I'm sure. I'm sure Doug Peterson's getting ripped for not going for two. Oh that's what. Yeah, I mean, I'm sure the analytics people are saying, yeah, why didn't
he go for two? I mean, yeah, That's what I was told, is that the analytics now say that you have a better chance of winning the game going for two in regulation, doesn't matter whether it's the last play of the game or seven minutes left in the game, rather than going to overtime with that much time left. Really, that's what that's what they've told me on Twitter. That's your first mistake. So that's why I was trolling him on Twitter yesterday. Two minutes left to the third quarter.
I'm going, Okay, how come Peterson's not going for two years? Listening to the analytics, sometimes you gotta just use comments sense, Okay, you know, I should just work the same whether it's the last play of the game or two minutes to go in the third quarter. Right, that's what the analytics tell me. You go, all right. That does it for Talking Cowboys for this Monday. There's so much to talk about this week on Talking Cowboys, and we'll talk at
you again tomorrow. This has been a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
