This he is Talking Cowboys, streaming live on Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the official Dallas Cowboys as Joyous Boy No. Your hosts Mickey's Fagnola, Brian brought us, Taylor Stern and Rob Phillips. Welcome everybody into another edition of Talking Cowboys, always joined by the great Brian Rob Mickey inside the SWBC Mortgage Studio, and we are going to get down
to it. We're gonna get a little bigger picture look at what's going on here in the NFL, what's going on with the Dallas Cowboys, and more importantly, what's going to go down this week against the Packers. So how are you guys doing today? Doing good? Doing great? Maybe I go back and watch them play this game last year in the playoffs. I saw you were watching him. I haven't yet. I haven't. I forgot some of the bad things that happened to this football team in that
in that game. I forgot about the three. I forgot about the Micah Hyde interception. They threw it. They were trying to throw a screen to the left. They're down
in the red zone. They're on about the I think the eighteen yard line of green BA. I mean they have knocking on the door or to get points, right, and they throw, they throw, I throw a screen to Cole Beasley, and remember Dez Bryant is the front, is the blocker, and Micah Hyde just jumps and intercepts and they get the ball like on the you know, they run it out to like the thirty yard line. Just completely jumped the route, just completely jumped the route. Okay,
there's one trying. Okay, well, how about just how about just the slow start this team? How about the okay, nineteen dropped a ball in the end zone, right, Bryce Butler dropped a ball in the far corner of the end zone, right. That was another one. I think the penalty that you got called for too many men on the field or what was it? I remember huddle, Yeah, I'm sorry, I was just I was just I think
that it was just funnel the huddle one. Yeah, if I remember, it's got a name now, it's the Bryce Butler they had they had completed a pass down to like the t oh. It was a huge game. Yeah, Terence Williams. Terence Williams right, by the way, he played really well in this game. Yeah, Terrence Williams did. And so they invented him. They invented a call that now the NFL says, well you should warn him for Yeah, the Butler rule. Yeah, and that was a scoring opportunity. Yeah,
he missed done. Oh they it was. I just I forgot about the Micah High I remember that one. I forgot the interception. Wait till you see you're gonna be like, oh man, they're driving. They got something going here, here we go here. Oh god, they just intercepted it. So what was the like the halftime score because they were behind. They dug a huge hole early. They were down twenty one. I know it was twenty eight thirteen and then they got it to tweet tweet to us. Yeah, then it's
twenty eight thirteen three or something, right. Yeah, No, no, that Rogers Rogers drew him off sides again, Taylor, I'm sorry about this. You get the show. He's fired up, he's fired up, but I'm watching, just watching the game. I forgot got out all the crazy things that were happening. But yeah, it was. I'll tell you what. Prescott was good in the game. Throwing the football. I mean he really was going the mobilian stuff like that was he was really accurate. In that game, he was really what
was it kent twenty one three in the second quarter. Yeah, they drew him off side. First possession of the game, he draws, he gets twelve minut on that. It's a third and five and he gets him to get a twelve minut on the field Penley and takes a shot and it's incomplete, so he gets a first down and then they go on and score. They threw Remember they got Sean Lee on the tight end under down the field and it was yeah, that was okay, Well you
know what, I know, I know we'll get into it. No, no, no. That sets the tone of this week because there's always kind of craziness that happens against the Packers. I mean, this is the Cowboys' third straight years seeing them in the regular season, obviously with different division things laying out right, but here they come to at and T Stadium kind of a revenge game from the playoff loss. I think there will be a lot of contentious feelings throughout the week.
It's always the Dez Bryant game. It seems like, you know, with the catch no catch, even though last night's great history, great history between these two, fat it go all I mean, now, the Packers stunk for twenty years, but while the Cowboys were good. But yeah, but yeah, there's a great history between these twos. So the other day again in the Rams game, do we still know what a catch is? I don't think we don't. We don't know what it catch. I don't know if we ever will. Nah, it's just
kind of a confusing thing. But we do know that Hitchens and Lee and maybe a Woozier are going to get some good work this week and possibly be back for this game, which is always good. A Woozier has never seen the Packers in person in a rookie, so maybe he's in for it. All hands on deck against Aaron Rodgers. All hands on deck. You liking Hitchens playing this week? Don't do that, Mickey face. I don't need to see that. I mean, that's the dead set. When
did he get hurt? It's been it's been training camp. It was it was the Cults game, right, cultur Raiders, Culturrators. I mean that's irrelevant. So how many practices has he had? Fully? No? But none. I think he gets him this week though. If he gets in a full practice Wednesday, okay, it's possible full practice Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Mickey, come on, one in pads, one in pads. I think that's what they were missing last week. This team though, has a history though,
because he didn't get the padded practice. See, it's kind of the same answer I would have given you for David Irving. Yeah, he hadn't had a padded practice since the week of the the Raiders. Yeah, the last last preseason game, right, and now he's going to get one after not being here for seven weeks or five weeks. It's not an injury though, Yeah, I understand. Do you think he's been working out hard? I would hope, so, yeah, nothing else to do. Perry Mason just gave an answer
right there. You know, if you're they're way too young for Perry Mason. Perry Mason and I don't mean to talk about age here. I'm sorry, but you know, Harry Mason, that was a lawyer on TV that never asked a question that he didn't already know the answer to. He just gave me a Perry Mason possibly with with Hitchens out of necessity, they might say Anthony Hitchens would one padded practices. It's good enough, better than what we've been
dealing with here the last week. I think it's got to come down to how he looks this week, because this team does have a history of pointing to that buy right. If they don't, they don't want to put him out too early. If they don't think he's ready. An extra week would do him really good. I mean, same with Sean Lee. I think you can see he can't hamstring. Same with that hamstring that you got to be careful with. But obviously they need those guys back age.
He can't. He's not going to repull something and the bones got to be healed right, otherwise they wouldn't even him out him out to practice. So from that aspect, you know, there's a chance. I think I agree. I agree with everything everybody said. If they'd won the Rams game, the extra week, yeah, I agree. The same thing with Sean Jones this morning. Yeah, but could we let it a good one go? Ye? Now have to make up for that? Yeah, you let And the same thing with
Sean Lee. Sure if they had won the Rams game, Oh sure, and the buys yeah and Tay. I mean, Jerry pointed out a couple of the appearents they've got down the road here and the undefeated Chiefs down the road. I'm Washington. Yeah, we can finally talk about the first place schedule this week. Yeah, because that's why they're playing the Pack. Yeah, because it matters. It does matters for two games. It does matter if they let this Rams game go and then they have to come down to
the last game to make the playoffs. Later this season, they play Philadelphia the last game, right, yeah, that could be for the division right there, Washington, Washingtons looking, Washington pretty good, lesson, I'm not given washing enough credit. And all those injuries got to hurt. That's got to hurt Josh Norman now looking, I don't know the severity of the ribs injury. Poor guy Spate. He came back into the game. Not good though. They lost Williams on their
own line. Yeah, I mean they were hurt to Nicholson was the guy at the end when he got the big hit on Kareem Hunt. Yeah yeah, no, not Kareema. It was one of their receivers, I think maybe oh um, yeah, I know you're talking. You know, do we do we like forget the year before because there seems to be a lot of really good players suffering injuries already Derek Carr in Oakland with the old role. Yeah, I mean it just seems got Romo direct, and Romo was the
one commenting on it. He goes, yeah, he goes, I know what that is. Ye, the knee on the back. That does not feel good. The Packers have a bunch, Oh they do, and they're and they're scrambling around right now. They think about docks have no running back. Yeah, yeah, they're young guys out injured reserve right Carson, Yes, yeah, and Time mcgarnbery just said on a on a podcast they ain't playing multiple broken ribs. Yeah, that would be
that's a break for the Cowboys them. He does going back and watching the game at least through the first quarter of the game so far, just going back and look at her. He had something. He had something in that game. Eighty eight number or whatever it is. Come on, Mickey, he's a wide receiver. Back when you're back when you were playing football, they were funny numbers, like seventy seven
was a ball carrier. Oh the other day the Seahawks put don't think running back, Oh Cleveland Brown or somebody in twenty and he's actually like your receiver Yeah, that's okay. It's hard works. I mean, you know, but you're talking about this. The Packers still did have a running back carousel last year when the Cowboys faced him in the regular season and Eddie Lacy still was able to get the job done. Yeah, this week, looking to see who might be playing for them at running back. You know,
they've got a lot of questions. They have a lot of questions, But I think the Cowboys have a lot of Cowboys have a lot of questions. I guess that's what we're trying to figure out here, is is you know, the both the linebackers back and then David Irving. You know, we'll see, I mean, we'll see. Where are you going to put him? I bet you, I bet you. Hold on before we get to David Irving being put anywhere. He's got to be on this roster and that doesn't
have to technically be done until Saturday. But a lot of people are now questioning is it just benet ben wickery because he didn't really play any defensive snaps, he barely delivered on special teams. He had a holding call. I think are blocking the back. If I'm not mistaken, he was a band aid or a bridge. How bad is Nolan Carroll that he's not ready to play yet? It's not putting Carroll and ir guy. He's still in concussion protocol, so, which means he practiced on a limited
basis last week. Right, Jason said he had one more hurdle and that last hurdle usually is a full practice and then how do you feel the next day? And it sounds like he didn't feel well the next sure, So that's kind of troubling at this point. So you Mickey's kind of pointing out the sense that if Nolan Carroll is not as good to go as most people are thinking, the concussion protocol not clearing that he might be a guy for I R, which automatically clears a
spot on the roster, making that room for David Erry. Yeah, you get to practice him then this week, right, I mean you would get to practice Carroll to kind of see Yeah, I mean yeah you can because you don't have to They get a one game yea exemption sure for David Irving, right, so they can or one week right, Yeah, he doesn't technically have one reactive this week. Yeah, yeah,
you could wait till Monday and not play him. If you want to play him Sunday, you gotta make spot him right, and you gotta do it by Saturday at three o'clock. Which I want to play him this Sunday. I definitely think they want to play him. The question is, like Mickey said, he hasn't been around. Is he in shape? Is he in football shape? So I think the practice will go a long way. He'll be here today, they'll get back to practice tomorrow and they'll just see. I
guess I have every intention of playing him. Go back to my original clutch question, where are you putting him? Now? I'm gonna ask Harry Mason. No, her, No, he's looking for an answer. I want an answer. I'm gonna Okay, let me ask you this. Can I can I throw the tape? Can I throw it around here? Would you consider moving would you consider moving Lawrence back to right defensive end and putting and putting David Irving as a starter at left and that that's how I win the
playoff game. Actually the playoff game on tape, David Irving started at left defensive end and Benson Mayo was started at right defensive end. Benson Mayo was a damn good football player. Has been for a long long time. I just I kind of kind of like what Lawrence has done these first four games at left end. Actually I kind of love what he's mean. Yes, but get he got like one play at right defense. He played both sides. Yeah, let's see, that's what I'm saying. I don't know if
I would put David Irving at right defensive end. I think I think I would put Lawrence over there now there. Now they've got some issues like sorry, sorry, somebody's got us start doing something at right now. That's what I'm trying to help you is just yeah, a no show. Taco is a no show. It's time to put Tapper up. I don't care who sits. Tapper needs to be six. I like that. I mean, give me a shot. Wrong there. Part is they don't play the run. Well, it's not
about putting pressure on the quarterback. Mayo is just all those those Tavon Austin runs to this. There was there more Tyrone Crawford inside in this last game. He started it right, but there was a matter of fact, I wrote about this in my notes the play when when McVeigh ran the ball inside on third down, it was it was Crawford made the tackle. I mean he took Sullivan the center and got rid of him and made the tackle to keep you at least give you a
chance to get the ball back. I like Crawford on the outside as an edge setter. But I know you guys looking for other guys to step up in the pass rush. So can Irving play the the other defensive tackle spot next? Yeah? See That's what I'm saying though, if but he could put Collins back at the one or the nose tackle David Irving. David Irving against the Packers is like a a I just want to buy the field. He was had tackle in that game, right, No, that's I'm saying. He made Player of the Week as
a defensive tackle. A lot of that came from eighteen snaps, three force fumbles. Yeah, a lot of that came from the nose in the three man rushed right right right. So to me, that's where you kind of if you if if Mickey's trying to get pressure off the right side, who gives you your best opportunity to get pressure. Did they switch it from the regular season game to the
playoff game? Did they make any adjustments on that line at all, well, they got well, no, we were thinking about because we we said this the other day that Ben Simwa got bench for a couple of games and then came in December and all of a sudden won his job back. Had four SaaS. He was their bench for the Steelers game that yeah, by the Hacker playoff game. He was their best pass rusher. Yeah, off the right side. So I don't it's it's a great question. I mean,
Crawford started there the last couple of games. But see, Crawford's not a right defensive end. No, he's been more like, okay, would you rather right? Would you rather than have him inside? You know what? We and me, I'm pointing the fingers right at me for Stephen Pie, Stephen Pia. That's what I'm saying. You know, I'm like, hey, like what I'm seeing with Stephen Pie. Like I think Stephen Pie is handicapped right now with his knee, And you think you're right.
I don't think Stephen Pie. It is a little bit more. He's gutting it up, he's playing. He's not practicing at all. Guy, he's not Yeah, he's yeah, he's tough guy in it out there, and he made the one play in the in the Arizona game that got a negative tackle for loss. What's Brian Price doing nothing? Steve snaps here and there, but as a run stuff well, I'm thinking if he could help. He's a rotational got nice. He was, came from Green Bay. Maybe all of a sudden he gets
a little life in his body. You know what I'm saying, Just a motivational thing. I didn't mean to cut you off. No no, no, no, no, give a break, but Micky, you get to play. You put Collins back at the one, and put put Crawford at the three and maybe help your run defense. Or put Colins or Crawford at the one. Y'all talking about three changes on the d line, moving Lawrence to the right side. They always talk about flexibility to this place. I mean, Lawrence is playing so well
on the left side. I hate to move them too, because you may not get the same production on the right side because obviously on the left side, you're taking a lesser talented tackle, and he's more talented than most guys playing left defensive end because those guys usually are run stuffers. So I think Crawford at the one, leave Collins where he's at But you gotta find somebody on the right side. Yeah, because you saw what happened in
the game, right, Maybe they started doubling Lawrence. Yeah, somebody goes, oh, where's Lawrence he dis peered. Yeah, well, and then they were chipping him with the running back. That's where he almost got hurt. People are people are saying, Okay, you're not going to wreck my offense. Yeah, you know, we're taking care of you now. If they if they have to double him, that takes up a tight end, or that takes up the running back from going out in
the in the past pattern. But they made a priority of it, and he still got a sack, and Crawford should have had the fumble recovery. I would consider back down right, thank you? What a great to pay. All right, he did he finally die? He did. Don't say it like that. He did he No, it was reported he was dead, and then it was reported he wasn't dead, and I was just one manager confirmed, Okay, mickey, Yes, it's passed away. Yes, such a sensitive over there, but
it did you know? I was confused. You're both water the time? How about this? No even online, by the way, way on a Twitter. Okay, let him finish. Mickey hates my numbers here? No, I like what number you got? Forty eight percent of the time opponents have rushed for four or more yards on first down against the Cowboys. That's troubling. Yeah. Yeah, they've had two one yard rushers. Yeah, it may make sense. Yeah, I mean you mean you
know that's something the Cowboys really prided themselves. Song was that ability to play the run last year? Oh? Yeah, they it was Sean Lee and Hitchens back in there, hopefully better. But that's what I'm saying. Do you consider putting somebody stronger inside if you're not? Stephen Pia is strong, But is Steven Pia healthy enough to wear lost his quickness he has? That's that is a very good observation. Can you go back and get Terrell McClaine. She did
a good last night. Yeah, he's a good player for a long time. Hey, we still have more to talk about this game and what it means for the Cowboys. Wait, we didn't settle this issue. Well that's good. Why don't you think about it for the break? Settling this issue? Think about it more over the break. When we come back, you guys can call US numbers two one, four eight seven into twenty one O two. We do that read and it'll just be over and then we'll just move on to David Irving or whatever we want to talk about anything. Did you listen to Jerry today? Yes? Did you? It went right past me when he was telling the story about the fat Pony. Yeah, No, the one about the
fair when he had he couldn't win a Qupi dial baseball. Yeah, and they had to they had to censor him because all of a sudden, buddy started laughing, right, and I'm going, well, he didn't say anything that funny. And then when I got here, they were talking about it and they said, yeah, they had to. They hit to hit the dump button, the dump button, because he kind of used a word he's not supposed to use. He was saying he was trying to win a qpie Dowal throwing. Is it a
baseball or softball at little milk? Yeah? Things the target, Yeah, you gotta knock the three things down. He said I just couldn't hit that stuff, and they and he said I just couldn't hit And then they all started yeah, and I'm going, what what happened? What was so funny? And that's the old seven second dump? But finally figured out what old dump took play. I told him you ruined the joke for me. It was great. They said it would have been a fine. I said, he'd have
paid it. Yeah, yeah, it's It's always nice when Jerry Jones gets really real and you hear, oh sure, well he gets comfortable and you forget you're not just on the phone with somebody, you're on radio. Right. I've done it before, right, yeah, Brian Ryan too done it. But hey, let's join the club. We're back here in the SWBC Mortgage studio and we actually have a caller who is in an area of this country that we are very curious about right now as Cowboys fan. So right from
New Orleans? What is your question? How you guys doing being great? How you right? Um? I don't really have a question I guess I just called just to hear Micky's voice. Oh good, it's been it's been a while. It's been a while. Did you go down to the courthouse like no other He's awesome. Did you go down to the courthouse to help us out monitoring that that hearing? You know, I was thinking about that, Mike. I don't think Zeke was going to be there, so I know
I did not go to the courthouse. You just were going for autographs. I wanted you to be our like reporter on the scene. Might catch you Pat O'Brien's. We'll see how that goes. I guess later on today we'll have an answer. Huh maybe maybe, yeah, Okay, Well, you know, it was a great weekend. We stayed at the at the the hotel. I mean, what that place is amazingas
first time I had seen the Star. I can't believe that, but the first time I've seen it, and were kind of waiting around for Brian brought us on Sunday morning, but then we had to get down to the game. I wanted to stop laying from the road to him. Yea, waiting till around thirty. I think you did a show at ten forty five, right, Brian, I did. We were out in the Lindsey Draper and I did our pregame show out there. Yeah, so we try to wait around long as we could, thank you to catch the show
and say hello. But getting back to the to the Cowboys and stuff, I don't really have any questions. I guess we can all see what's going on. There's always a fine line of or three or four plays throughout games that are defining that defined the outcome of the game, I think. But my biggest concern is is the run game. We just if you can. You can't go four and five drives in a row without scoring points in the second half and expect to win the game, especially against
a team that can score points. And that's just playing anybody. Sure. My biggest concern would be, like, I just can't put my finger on it. I don't know why we can't. We averaged five yards to carry on first down last year. We're not having that team input this year. That's the biggest difference to me, Because your best defense is your offense is not playing left guard and right tackle. That would be the biggest difference to me for that. Yeah, I just I don't know how we fixed that. I mean,
the defense is gonna be what it is. But last year we outscore some teams, like like Washington during Thanksgiving. We you know, Kirk Cousins had like full touchdown scorn or something yards. So you just have to outscore the opponent. I think we could have had we at least got a couple of points, a couple of field goals on one of those four or five drives in the second half. But the guys, I just wanted to say, hello, I don't I don't have all the answers. I mean, I'm
not gonna try to sit here and play coach. Uh, but you can see what We'll see who we can get a win this weekend would be tough. We'll see what happens. Always great talking to you guys. Guys are awesome, keep doing it. Thanks Rays. Always good to see you. Ray. This is slowly turning into the twenty sixteen recap show, and I get it, Ray, I know you're frustrated. That makes complete sense. But four or the five drives in the second half, absolutely well, they scored on the first
four drives they had in the first half. We told you yesterday Wade Phillips made great, great adjustments in that second half. Yes, I know it's frustrating, but the biggest difference for me is not the five yards per carry. It's that online And I think you know, Ray had a good question, but this question kind of goes to what really I think might be the issue, and it goes Roger says, with new pieces on the old line, is there chemistry issue? And if so, is it affecting
the whole team. I don't think it's like getting along as you know, buddy o'pal chemistry issue as far as like moving, blocking, trusting the other guy. Yeah, I think cont knew it. I mean it's more important at that spot than any spot on the roster because you got five guys that have to and if one guy misses the entire the entire operation suffers from it. And you had a new left guard in the game, by the way, so you started with one left guard and you had
another one. So that's changed for Frederick and Smith and Smith and Smith that whole left side, no question. Let me ask you the first four possessions they faced, third and eleven, third and seven, third and six, and third and eight got them all Also, yeah, and tell you spoke to this, and Ray spoke to the first down running. They punted three straight times in the second half. That happened only twice last year in any all seventeen games. Yeah,
not often. They had five first down plays. In those three drives, they got four yards out of it in complete pass. Four runs for four yards was one of them a jet sweep, one was the switzer. He got three yards out. Yet minus run, you had a run for no gain all of a sudden, they couldn't they couldn't run the football. Yeah. They also tried a bubble screen to Beasley right right off of fake sweep right,
which he should have given it to him, right. So yeah, it's I don't think the question is about chemistry issues, right, yeah, se can we feel like do we feel like though that they've and this is gonna sound pretty simplistic, that they've played very good fronts, that the fronts that they've played, when you're blocking sixty plays a game or sixty five plays a game, that they're gonna get you on one or two of those plays, I mean, they have that
that you're playing such a you're playing such talented fronts that if you do have a miss block that a Michael Brockers is going to make you pay. You know, it's not like they're getting beat by bad defensive linement. I mean, if you look at the Rams game in the second half, the pressure came down to really two guys.
It came down to Aaron Donald and it came down to Michael Brockers and on the on the on the pass, on the pass play that was thrown that was intercepted, Michael Rockers had to beat probably your second best lineman to get the pressure in Zach Martin. You know. So, I mean it's the competition I think is says a lot. Are people loading up on them? Yeah? People, But but you're also dealing with you know, you're asking an offensive line to be perfect against some of the better defensive
lineman in this league. It's a tough, tough stretch of four fronts that you've been playing. Yeah, I think that, I think that really has a lot to do with it. But they do miss block. I mean, they have occasional breakdowns. But I've always said, evaluate sixty five plays of an offensive lineman. But what happens is when they have one or two miss blocks in a running game and then it turns into a negative play, then we're like, well,
what's wrong with the running game. But then the other fifty eight times that they've done and maybe twenty other runs, guy got you know, they got their block, They handled Aaron Donald, they handled Michael Brockers. You know, they got that taken care of. I think that has a lot to do with what's going on whether they face this week. Packers aren't as good. I'll tell you what, and we'll get into Packard talk tomorrow. I mean we'll talk about but Daniels and guys like that. Yeah, they've got some
good I mean, they've got good players. But it's not their linebackers give you problem. Yeah it's not. I mean, like I said, when you look at and I watched their defense, Kenny Clark, the knows is a good player. Mike Daniels, there's questions about him. It's hip, it would be, you know, but they've they've had their struggles, they've had their struggles up front. I think this is really more
about who they've played. Because when when you miss a block on Aaron Donald and it could be your best player, he's gonna be right on top of your quarterback. He's gonna be right on your ball carrier, you know. I think it's probably a little bit of both. Tay's right, you got new pieces on this line, and yeah, they we circled it in April, like we knew this, this was gonna be a challenge for this. Jonathan Cooper is
not better than Aaron Donald. Yeah, And I don't know, I don't know if I don't know if Ronald Leary is better than mc donald. To your point, two weeks in a row they played a defensive lineman or a pass rusher the best at his particular position in the NFL. They played Von Miller out of two out of three weeks, and then they played Aaron Donald and nice pieces around them too, So no question. But I think it's a
little bit of both. I mean, I think this line's trying to adjust a little bit to some new pieces. So I think the word was chemistry. I'm not sure it's chemistry. I think it's continuity. You're trying that new guys into your five. That's not half, but it's close. I just don't think. And and the tight ends, Yeah, the tight ends, that's that's even. That's a fair point too. That's a really fair point. I don't think you're getting hurt with Lyle Collins. No, I really don't know. I
don't think you're getting hurt with Lyle Collins. Now are you getting hurt with Jonathan Cooper in that game the other day? And maybe the fact that Jonathan Cooper all of a sudden is thrown into the game with reps no reps during the week because it didn't get till Friday. Did you get to Friday and all of a sudden he's playing the game. It is the biggest thing that hurt he did right now is that you like Chad's green in there, but you just can't rely on him.
It's like all those other linemen that you have on their knock on wood. You can most mostly rely on them consistently. And that's that could be And they haven't said this, but that could be one of the reasons they said, Lyle, why don't you we're gonna put you at right tackle because they wanted that to be consistent. Yeah, absolutely, when when? When? But yeah, right, I do think when Chads is healthy, I think he's your left guard though still,
because I don't think he's been poor in these firsts. No, but but what you're looking at too though, is you're you're in a situation where you have had some guys, like I said, as Zach Martin, miss a, Travis Frederick, miss a, Tyrant Smith miss Yeah. You know when those guys, when you're all pro players, miss then you're gonna have then you're gonna have some negative plays. But a lot
of it, I think is about who they've played. I really really do and and and and and they had you know you people probably say, well, Brian, what about Pittsburgh and what about Yeah, look at the team they didn't have success running the football against last year, the Giants, right, Minnesota. Yeah, better fronts, right, one of the better, but you're playing against better fronts. You know, it wasn't always pretty for this running game last year. I think you can kind
of look back. They were big questions here in the start of that first half of the season last year. Yeah, member Zeke. First couple of games, Oh yeah, they wanted to put Alfred Morrison there. I mean, I know my timeline, Alfred Morris. What's the you know bus? This kid's a bust. You know, I just I look at I look at the opponent, and I look Okay, who's making the plays for them. That game in the second half came down to Michael Brocker's and Aaron Donald and the way they
were able to play. That's that's really what happened in that game. And he had a couple of bad does Briant you know, drop on third down? You know, you know what, Excuse me when you go back and look at that play. He didn't drop it. He didn't catch it right through his arms, right through his hands, the wickets right now, it was low. You had to rather the past. Sure, at least knee I not ankle high.
But he's made that catch before he has he has see I think that was the first series, right, it kind of got him off to kind of got him off that bad start. Yeah, because that was the third down play. Yeah s, yeah, it's it's it's a it's
a a lot of things going on here. But I I like I say, if they're best players are making plays and your best players are trying to block them and you're not having success, yeah, then then now it's like huh yeah, I never will say then, oh well, hey is this is supposed to be one of the best lines in football. But having said all that, they scored thirty points and had four hundred and forty yards total offense. Got beat Bill, didn't he got beat? So and the Ram score seven field goals and in can't
imagine that when you hand him thirteen points. It helps? Yeah, absolutely it does help. Well, what also helps and you guys get involved in our conversations. We now have Marked from Boston on the line. Mark, what's your question? How's everybody doing? We're good. I'm first time caller and I followed your show for a long time, So thank you, glad. I guess that, thank you. Yeah. My question was Um with the left cut and the right tackle. And this
is the thing that I have. People keep comparing the Sign to the last three seasons and replacing Larry, and I knew that that was gonna be a big luck because Cooper and Um and Green they're not as good. They're not going to be as good. They're not as good as Larry, and I think Collins will be as good as Free. But you know, say what you want about Free. He was a pro and he keep you know, and he knew and he had the experience, he knew
how to play the game. And I think that's what Collins is laughing right now, but I think eventually he will be up at a player. But I think that that's the problem, and now the line just has to jail. I think, you know, people are acting like the Scott's calling, you know, it's I just think they just got to give them offensive line some time to jail. And I think the Copple to get back to doing what they're doing. I think they got to win more on first down.
Excuse you, they gotta win more on first down. But I believe that with some time, by the end of the season, I believe this client will if Green stays healthy, I believe the line can jail and become, you know, as good as the pubis three seasons. But right now it's not and it's not gonna happen just like that because before this, before the Copples got mind, remember all the problems that was having them in twenty thirteen, but
Romo was running for his life. So I think that with them, you know, with the offensive line, with the way that um you know, you know, you know, I thought they did a little better this week, but I think that with time, the little jail. You know, that was really my question about the offensive. Thanks, thank you so much. I mean, it's funny about this whole thing.
And I and hey, thank you for calling sir. Really, I can't tell you that the hate for Doug Free by fans generally, and now he's gone, everybody through the day, everybody, I say, then we'd rue the day. But I think that's that's hard. I think you're right now, you're acknowledging and you're missing is sure. But he made a decision that wasn't the team's decisions. Like no, no, no, But I just find it funny. No, no, I find it.
I find it amusing, is what you know. Yeah, everybody couldn't get couldn't wait to get rid of Doug Free, couldn't wait to get rid of him. And now he's gone. He's like, oh my god, we miss Doug Free. That happens at other positions too. Yeah. If the safety doesn't make a play as well, Bury Church, we ride this, Yeah, we ride this roller coast or this personnel roller coaster. Brandon Car. Yeah, all of a sudden, we miss Brandon Car. Oh noah, yeah, we will, we will, we will, we
will care her that would come up. Yeah, we will kick Doug Free to the curb in a heartbeat. But you know, oh wait, we're not running for five yards to carry. Absence makes the heart grow fonder. Where's the hell is Doug Free? My gosh, just team, you know, come on, and you know what going into And I'm not kicking the guy, that guy that called her, I'm
just saying it's it's amusing to me. Going into this game, they had thirty six rushes on first down and they were averaging three point two eight run, yeah, which is terrible getting you in second and long, third and long absolutely yeah. And even the passing plays. They had forty four passing plays and they were averaging six point three yards. Yeah. That's not getting the ball down the field at all. Playoff teams for seven seven yards are over. Yeah, so
that the first down has been problematic. They did get better on third down, right, they were seven or fourteen, much much better first down running in this game though, first half eleven for ninety eight yards. Yeah. Well there was a seventy eight yard run in there. It still counts, no, I know, but it wasn't like consistently getting seven yards. Take out the run and then would have they do, huh take out Morris's run and then what did they do? I don't know what you're doing. Math not me. It's
whatever he's saying here at this problem is on first out. Yeah, but again, Yeah, they still scored thirty points with no help from their special teams and no help from the defense. Yeah, that's true. Will provide more help. We provide all the help here to BBC Mortgage Studio. Hey, we didn't give you. Guys. Call her. It's a hard time. We like him when you call us, and you guys can still call us the first two, one, four, eight, seven, two, twenty one

The ingredients like the veggie's never frozen and pepperoni, pork in beef, better pizza commercial Papa John. Yeah, simultaneously, who did it better? Oh? I don't know the real Papa was in that one. I think we need to give it to him, real Papa and Mickey, Yeah, it would be excellent. Now let's
get to something that's also excellent, Rob's Poles. Rob, you did an interesting pool kind of fell off of what we were talking yip about yesterday with Shaun Lee being a big absence. But yeah, I left him out of there because yeah, I just guessed he would be the pick, could be the winner. Which of the Cowboys defenders that they've been missing are you most excited to see return?
Maybe this week, maybe after the bye. You got four choices besides Sean Lee Woozier, Nolan Carroll, Anthony Hitchens or David Irving. Anybody got a preference Hitchensay you vote? Did you vote for Hitchens? I did? Thanks, Mick. Just now I voted for David Irving. I want to get that quarterback down because JJ Nelson he's good good, I mean Jordy Nelson JJ was two weeks ago. I would have voted for I would have voted for Hitchins myself. Hitchens
got thirty eight percent of the vote. David Irving got fifty WHOA, sorry, guys, yep, I'm in tune. Tay knows the fandom. Do you think people and Carroll with eleven percent? Yeah? Do you think people are going I'm sorry, WOZI yeah. Do you think people are okay with with what they've seen from Jalen Smith? Is that why the why they don't feel as feel as uh strongly about getting Hitchens back? Oh? I think you saw any I mean, look, linebacker on
some of these receivers, these Ram receivers. It doesn't matter who it is. Yeah, doesn't matter who. It's not a good matchup. You don't want Cooper Cup on a linebacker. I think that they're more alert of the big plays that opponents have been striking onto the Dallas Cowboys and seeing that. Okay, their secondary issues, but if you get the quarterback down before any of that happened. Yeah, the
pass rush has been which helped him. Yeah. Yeah, I think they've seen the how much it's improved with the pass rush. When they win big games, they're doing something right over there, and then when they don't, it's like, Okay, well, how did Jared Goff get so many yards? You know, That's kind of what I'm I'm thinking, at least, I'm not speaking for the fans. I'm just saying he had the same amount of yards is the Dak Prescott? Yeah, now,
and he scored Dak Prescott scored three touchdowns. So, David Irving, how many sacks did he finished with last year? Well, the league the team lead was six, right, Yeah, second was five, right, and that was your defensive tackle that was Collins, right, he had five. No, he had four sacks, led the team in pressures twenty six. Yeah, there you go. Well, that's that Tampa game. He lit him up Tampa. That gave it the end of the year Tampa and green Bay.
Tampa and green Bay were his big games, which defensive end spot was he rushing from against? Left side? Left side? Left side defensive end? Should just put him on the right side, because when they played Tampa, Lawrence was down. They were wresting him for the playoffs, right, I just don't want to move Lawrence back to our original You want to shoot him there? Yes, absolutely, Mickey liked to play, would like to do something to help his defensive tackles though, Yeah,
Stephen Paia and I don't. I don't disagree with him there knee the knee. I think it's slowing him down. I mean they played Crawford last year at some one technique worried about him getting beat up in their playing one. I don't know if he's who's more sturdier, who's more bulk gear to play the one of the nose, Collins or Crawford. Joe Looney totally switched Joe Joe bo Joe and there things up over to the D line. What a plot twist. I mean we saw with Keith Smith.
Just kidding, Okay, what are you more worried about then? Because Dallas is third in the league in sacks? Yeah, are you worried more about your run? Defense or getting pressure. We've got a couple of We've gone four weeks without anybody really saying I'm sorry. You probably said, hey, I'd like to get the quarterback on the ground. I'm worried about the runs they got to stop run. I wasn't
as worried about that. I know what you're saying, Mickey, but I wasn't worried about the quarterback because look at the quarterbacks that they faced. Besides Eli Manning, he placed Trevor Simmon, and you know, Palmer's in the last years of his career, and Jared Goff is such a question mark some of these times. So I wasn't as worried about that, and then it became an issue that we'd seen from nowhere, and then you know, it's hard to say the runner this past week because he plays like
a receiver, right. Yeah, they limited the big plays in the passing game last week. That girl's fifty three yarder that should have been like a twenty yard completion. They missed the tackle at the second level by the safety, and the run defense is where they struggled. They gave up eight runs of ten or more yards in the game that doubled their previous total Sean Lee. He might have not been the glixer for everything, but I think your your guys Pro Football Focus say he's the best
run defense linebacker in the league right now. See sometimes, yeah, those guys tell me that. Yeah that's that's honestly. Because so someone sitting to me some about Miles Jack had missed a tackle in two and I'm like, I was happy until I looked at the source and unt I saw what the source was Pro Football Focus. But anyway, I you know, I wow, I'm everybody hates him. I have more concern I have more concern over than playing run defense now, I really do, because I when the
look at the teams that have beaten him. Yeah, how they've won those games. It's been about the Yeah, it's been about those ten eleven, you know, twelve yard runs they had. They had seven of those allowed in the second half. Yeah, three on that final drive that basically ran out the clock, Cowboys out of timeouts two minutes left, trying to win the game with a touchdown. Yeah, it wasn't just girl, it was Tavon Austin and they knew
he was gonna run the ball. Yeah. Yeah, that's what's sad when he's in the backfield, they're gonna give him the ball. Just hey, they're gonna get it to him. And they went look over there they went and left. Yeah, cowboys right right, went left. Yeah. We needed Tony Romo to call that game. He predicts those things. He helps clear that up for these guys. But you know, we're talking about runners and we we've mentioned it briefly. Just an update on the easy Elliott rob Did you fly
back from New Orleans already here? Yes? I did. I caught the forty five minute flight. Thank you American. No, I wasn't here. See what could delay okay, just hold on explain it a little bit, because what could delay the ruling was Kessler came up. He found some legal case and it was an arbitration case with some worker with Verizon, and the worker actually won the case. And so when the NFL was arguing that you can't overrule
an arbitration, he came up with the case. And the judge said, so, mister Kessler, did did when did you come up with that case? And he goes, has that been in the evidence that you gave us beforehand? And he goes, no, it wasn't and he goes, did the NFL get that information? And he goes, H, no, I'm sorry, your honor or, I didn't give it to him. We just found it, and and he got admonished for not giving it to him. So he said, Okay, by tomorrow
the NFL can respond to this case. So that meant today, right, So I don't know how soon they get it to them, and then they have to see what the response is to this case they unearthed. I want to know who their researchers are that they find all these precedent cases. Can you clear some things up? You know you're Mickey is a very thorough reporter as always. We know that, and he listened to the full hour of it yesterday. But explain for some some people who are listening right
now who don't know who Kessler is. I'm sure a lot do, but it's he's the nflpa's lead attorney, Okay. And then the fact that they're in the Fifth Court Circuit right now, right and the arguments are they're kind of basic. To just try to simplify it. The NFL is saying that the NFLPA wrong fully filed a lawsuit before the obitration was the verdict given and the nflpa's saying,
and they used an analogy. I think they used a semi, something like when a semi is getting ready to run into your house, you don't have to stay into the house before you leave, right when you know there's going to be an accident, you get out. And they're saying, we knew we were going to lose the obitration because when they didn't allow the evidence that Kia Roberts used, uh didn't allow us to question commissioner, we knew we were going to get beat. So we filed the lawsuit
ahead of time. And the NFL's saying, well, that's wrong, you shouldn't have done that. So basically what's going on right now, it's like there's no arguments about guilt or not guilt. It's the legal ease of did you have the right to file before the hearing was delivered? And then then fell saying that we have to get a stay on the stay because we can suffer a reprotable harm if he's not immediately punished. And one of the questions of the NFL by the appellate panel was why
did you let him play Week one? It was still concerned about a reprotable harm to the NFL. Yeah, and they didn't have a good answer that. You know what their answer was, this is a different process because this is new stuff that we're mitigating with domestic violence. We didn't have this process before. But the nfl PA pointed out, well, they didn't suffer a reprotable harm with the Tom Brady
case and they didn't even question that. They allowed that to go an entire year and he still served his suspension. So our argument is regardless of when he's suspended, if he's suspended and we lose, he's still gonna suffer for a six game suspension. And the nfl PA, you know, they're they're basically talking about well, yeah, but then no, the NFL is saying, well, this undermines our suspension rules, like everybody can do the same thing and never get suspended.
Bottom line, there's a few options here, Right, they could either grant a stay of the injunction, which could have allowed Zeke to be suspended immediately, right. They could deny it to where if it goes through the normal court system, he could play all season or likely before they ever get to the lawsuit case. Or they could decide, correct me if I'm wrong to throw this out and say that the jurisdiction wasn't warranted in Texas, and then it would go to New York? Is that right? Yes? Yes?
And then it starts all over again because they're basically saying they shouldn't even be in New Orleans, they should be in New York. So then the process with what start all over again? Yeah? Oh boy? It And I was told and I said, what happens if you know what happens if they throw it all out? And I said, where does it go from there? And I was told
the Supreme Court? Yeah. And I can't imagine the Supreme Court doesn't have better things to litigate than a football matter on a suspension stud the Great Wizard White Alive. We yeah, probably, But see, the whole thing comes The whole thing just comes down to did you have a you know, the bottom line, which we may never get to, yeah, was did you have a fair arbitration hearing? Right? And the answer, obviously, when you see it all is absolutely not.
Absolutely well, thank you, Mickey, I mean, hey, I listened to all. That's a lot to remember. I think that Cowboys fans are constantly wondering every Monday morning, is it going to be playing the Sunday? Yeah? Can you playing tonight? If that's going on? I know one thing though, if they do, Look if if Zeke's, if the NFL Players Association loses this, this thing is going to be immediate. They're not waiting around. No, they're not. They've oh yeah
the suspension, suspension, get ready, it could happen. If it happens on a Thursday, a Friday, Saturday, whatever, boom, They're gonna six games. Yeah, they're gonna hit it. Can now we'll be talking about the running game in a whole new light. Yep, but we Silford More. It's a little hope there, that's true. Are they working on Saturday? Can they rule it on Saturday? They can rule whenever they want.
Those judges are probably over at Felix's eating oysters. Now, guys, we have a friend of the show who always gets in the phone lines. We appreciate you calling from such a far far away country. Philip from France on the phone lines. What is your questions? First, I want to say that I keep all the people of Las Vegas in my praises, thank you very much. I stick to
my games about Jared Goof. I wasn't that impress Briscott was better despite the loss and the mistakes managing long and clock, eating drives and keeping drives alive with his abilities. Now might be beating a dead horse here, but I was trying to figure out why the online play was so so after three weeks compared to last year, I said, my day off today. My wife will get on my
back later in the evening. But watching random two two thousand and sixteen games, it was a giant at Dallas Bengals and at Steelers, and the first three of this young season from different tangles and different speed, I want to say I'm not the kind the person throwing dirt on people who I respect for the football knowledge they have compared to mind to mind. Excuse me, but I noticed a few things. If I'm off, tell me and please correct me. Terrence Smith doesn't really look like himself
so far this year. I mean he doesn't look as smooth and light footed as before. I assume he's still bothered by his back, but I noticed something else. It was a thick lake on his assignments. I mean he tends to look lean. Wait, check longer on his right side, while Collins is still a work in progress, although he's getting better and better after each game. Is in learning the passions to play right tackle will pay him huge dividends.
Travis Fredericks, who's at his best when he can climb up to the second level is a thick lay to rich block or comball block on his right. On his left, he sometimes finds himself on left on an island. He seems worried about the backside block when the play is going on the right side. I saw him often in his first or and a third step looking on his
left thing he didn't do that often last year. Then he's late and he can climb up to the second level and cut the defense into because the linebacker road or the safety has time to fill the gap. Like Martin is often look into his left two to check where Frederick is, and then he is late and he's
assignment to as his Collins. Then the Titans, waiting for the garden tackle to push to ease their job and creating a lot of jam found themselves with their pants around their ankles trying to block bigger defensive end instead of simply chipping them or getting in the way and looking for second level blocks, a simple DOMAINO effect from where far that looks and smells like something like a count maybe a confidence crisis. Regarding the last left guard spot,
the greatest call we ever had. We appreciate that, wondering, Hey, you know what, I don't know if I could argue with somebody any of that. We can't because we are much we're out of time. No, that was great, Yeah, we are did a great job. He did agree, you've been watching game pass or what he's been watching some NFL games. Start your free trial today. Well that's how how knowledge well you could be if you two. He
went back and studied games last year too. He said, Cincinnati and Pittsburgh good games to watch, you know, when you're talking about three to four fronts or I think with the since any but at least with the Steelers. But no, I don't think that he was. I don't think he's far off. And you know, and there's a there is some some confidence in what you're having to do there, see, and it's the continuity, right. I think he pointed out about Frederick looking left because he's not
like bad, are you doing your job over there? Well, we're doing our job. We're doing our job every day at eleven thirty am Central time. I don't even know what time that is in France, but Philip yeah, and everyone five thirty six thirty at night, and everyone who joined us today. We constantly appreciate it, and we'll be back tomorrow here in the s of VC Market Studio. That all twenty two. This has been a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
