This is the Talking Cowboys break streaming live on Dallas Cowboys dot Com, and the officials Dallas Cowboys out. Well, you don't have the Talking Cowboys break all that stuff, but you got two for the road. We'll take that. Oh yeah, they don't matter about a music man, It don't matter about the music of the opening. Just getting Nate and Douglas and I together and we'll have a good old times for real, Talking Dallas Cowboys. Yeah, good

morning everybody out there. Happy Victory Monday to you wherever you may be. If you're listening to us live, thank you so much. If you're gonna listen to us later, we thank you for that too. You're joined once again by Nate Newton, super Bowl champ in his own right. Yeah, one of my favorite guys to watch football games with on a nightly basis and sometimes on a Sunday afternoon.

Brian brought us Douglas producing today. We're gonna try and break this thing down for you because the big fellow across from me is still trying to figure it out. He's still trying to figure out how this team somehow managed to win that football game last night. And he asked me he goes. Be specific, Brian, when you have a question today, be specific. I think a lot of Cowboy fans are like that Nate right now. They're they're trying to figure out how in fact do you you

win a game? And you know, going in, Nate, we thought it was going to be a difficult game. I mean, I know I picked the score on gut feeling like twenty six to sixteen or twenty sixteen something like that, but I didn't feel like that, you know, and going and going in and then a half I'm like, hey, make the Raiders quit. The Cowboys never could make him quit. And at times I thought, holy smokes, the Cowboys are about to quit with Bruce Irving. Yeah uh Khalil Mack. Yeah,

they didn't quit. No, they didn't. They did not went to play. And it's just as I was praising um my man like college, like yo, college is out of this business, all of a sudden it's started collapsing on our tackles. Yeah. That, and that was just one of many things that as the game went on. It's like the momentum they took it from us right before the right at the end of the first half, and then

he just gained it like it just kept steamroller. We couldn't get our run game together back with Marris and Smith and we're doing puns. I felt like it was a tricker you know what. It was a tricker treat Thanksgiving, Christmas. It was just an all holiday affair, boy, and didn't be getting look look cute cards like you got there? You know. Oh yeah, I'm muddled. Have you ever have you ever seen that happen in the game. You know what I want to say, that happened to me in

high school. Man, I want to think, Wow, I'm looking like, man, it's so muddled. Man. You look at this third down Dale, how do we ten? Yeah? You know downs? I'm like, yeah, how Oh yeah, the game is muddled. Man. Yeah. I always like to say this, and people give me a lot of They like my saying they're ready for the T shirt. The NFL is a strange lady. Yeah, and she was a strange lady for the Cowboys last night.

They do get the victory twenty to seventeen. Talk about that offensive line a little bit, you know, that's that's something I mean, you know, you being an old old offensive lineman, you know, going into that game You're thinking, how how can the Raiders hurt us? How can they they? Can they hurt you with the you know, can they hurt you with the past? Can they hurt you with the rung? We thought they were saying, but I think

going in we really thought. I know Friday, when I was on your show, we talked about, like you said, say, Bruce serving Mac, what they can do. Do you feel like though, that they really hurt you or did guys like Byron Bell and Lyle Collins and those guys step up today? What bothered me is we and I hate to kind of criticize, we want yeah, but oh no, you have to you have to cast an eye on that. Though we did not continue to run mars Uh was was having great success in the first half. You were

screaming for him to stay in that game. Where it because yes, because okay, if you define that Smith is our third down back. Yeah, okay, let let's let's continue. You you you like consistency, let's continue with what we were how it was successful. Yeah, we we made and I feel partly on the coaches and players we we we put Mac and Bruce Irving in the game man, and part of the game yeah, but by not taking care first and second down. Yeah, and so all of

a sudden, now third down becomes an issue. Right, Like I said, they snatched the momentum. Uh, Dad's uh, you know, Dad's on a quick slat, and like last night, you know, we laugh about it. But I remember when nor Al Turner used to tell us on Wednesdays, we're getting ready for the you know, getting ready for the for the weekend preparation. And he would say, Mike, we're gonna ask you to go to go up big for the team. Sure, And I would like, go up big? What you mean? Yeah?

So he I'm like, coach, go up big? You know. I mean, I'm like if I don't know, I'm like, what do you mean, go up You're trying to learn? Yeah, he said, Well, mikeel has to run a couple of slants. Yeah, maybe a safety or linebacker sitting in there, right, so Troy gonna put the ball on him or he gonna, you know, do what he can and get make sure Mike getting the ball. Because there was we was running

certain plays off of that slant. Yeah, and uh, just little plays like that where you have to go up big sometime or you make sure that the other guy don't get the ball and that was the interception. Hey, we kind of seen that a little bit too much from Dez. I'm not talking about playing short on the route, you know, or or where Press got through the ball.

And you know, Navarro Bowman was right there, and Bowman, to his credit veteran player backed up, thinking, Okay, if I take a run at Dez, Y're probably gonna flag me here. But the ball wasn't in a grade spot. Dez hesitated on the route. But we've seen this from and okay, let me do this. Not so much Dez, but how about all the cowboy receivers? And again here

I am. They get a victory and I'm nippicking about receiver play, but we all have to kind of wonder how all of a sudden does five receivers have seven catches in a game, you know, and that in the weak point. Everybody out talks with the secondary secondary to yeah, how you not getting open against this Raiders. Now, they showed during the game, and I'm quite sure you've looked at it. Yeah, they've shown doing a game that they was semi double cover, right. Yeah, So that took pressure

off Beasley Williams. Yeah. And and I gotta give our coaches credit because that why don't we throw it deep? Well? Yeah, we threw Beasley deep. We th down the field, Illiams deep. Yeah. On the handback, he threw Williams deep and he dropped the ball. And so my my issue is always gonna be when and you said it read at half when we did our show for the dot com Right, Hey, make make plays when they come to you, right, make an interception, right and and and like I woke up

this morning and I'm like, did we win? Yeah? Did we? Oh? No? You know, And that's the thing you talked about, the line and the receipt the thing that I was I thought the line played really well. I think the tape showed that. I think they got some help. I think some guys did some good jobs in the backfield with Blitz pickup stuff, you know that putting in Mac and Irving on the same side of the field. I knew it was going to be a problem because that's the

one way they get pressure. But I, you know, the focus I think is what is wrong with the receivers? You know, what is wrong with why? You know, why can't other other teams. You watch tape against the Raiders and other teams are winning on the outside and the Cowboys just didn't win nearly enough in that game, you know, and we wonder, oh, well, what's Prescott doing? And I'm

not I'm not saying Prescott's perfect by any means. I'm not saying that at all, but he's made some throws where you know, you know, you're thinking, you and I are watching the gaming, like, throw it, throw it, you know, because you're starting your clock and your head is going, Okay, they're not gonna be it. You know, Jason Witten is not gonna hold Khalil Mack for four seconds here today.

You know, the ball has got to be out. And so I'm kind of sitting here thinking, and as I'm watching the tape, I'm like, why are they not winning? Why are the routes not you know why? But again, that that's something that you know, we we focus in on on what's what offensively are some of the issues. Yeah, you know, and you're gonna get Ezekiel Elliott back, which helps you tremendously. Where and you always like to say this, where is the safety playing men? Where is the safety playing?

And is Are they gonna be able to double days? Are they gonna be able to double be I thought Beasley was gonna have a huge game. I thought Beasley was going to be the guy that have seven catches. But five guys had seven balls caught last night. See that That to me is that's an issue. That's an issue with me ever since Zeke left out. Yeah, because the first thing I think I was talking to you about, I say, okay, the question of them days, the question okay, well,

now we have to throw to you, right. We need to keep to feel spread right. We kept it spread with with with with Zeke, but now we need to keep it spread with with you. You have a big play, right, And you know I don't buy into the coaches in them. I don't buy into well, this is the offense we run. I don't buy into that. Because you were Dad's first round pick. You are Dad's the guy we elected to pay.

Make a difference whether you have to go to the coaching staff position coach, you're head coach, your offensive coording and demand that you they find a way. Well, they brought they brought back a play on third down. I wrote about this morning on Dallas Cowboys dot Com and my game notes that they brought a play back where they ran trips formation and ran Williams behind up the field, Beasley and up the field. Witten as moving picks to

get Williams under. They know that the Raiders are playing man coverage third down to get the protection, they dump at the Williams it's a first down. See, there's the creativity that you know that. That's something that you want to say, Okay, how do you get Dez going? How do you get You saw when Dez got the ball that come back he ran with some violence there. He

came back, snatched that ball and took off. It kind of reminded me that Jacksonville game in London where he caught the crossing route and just exploded up the field. But they have to do more of that, you know, And that that's where I kind of look at the coaching staff and say, Okay, it's on the players, yes, is it on Prescott, yes? But is it on the coaches to come up with more creative ways like that?

You have to as a coach, But I mean, you can't get in games where you just get stagnant on off and you especially the next two weeks and you can't settle for it as a player. Yeah, you know, you look around in the league, and I'm not trying to compare Dazz to other other receivers. I'm just saying he's odd number better. Yeah, the highlight receivers. He's odd number one receivers. So you know, you you have to demand it a get me the ball. I don't care

how you do it. Well, how about be more consistent kind of catching football though, too, But you know what they do a craft tree? How many times last seventeen? Okay? And he called seven? Okay? But this as the offense, but the offense spreads, it's better. But come up with some of those ways. I mean again, I love the fact that he drug Williams underneath and got the first That was an easy pitch and catch. Yeah. See that Those are the kinds of things that you kind of want.

And again, here the Cowboys win a football game and I'm complaining about But I think that's an issue for this team right now. I think that's what's the issues keeping them from being that. It's not just Zeke being out of the lineup, it's being it's being you know, it's hey, do you get the protection, and do you and then do you get the do you get the plays the creativity of the play. And I think that's

where everybody takes takes ownership of this. Again, I'm not just totally pointing my finger at the receivers, but somebody's got to find a way to get open against a secondary that has been given up huge plays all year, all year long. The corners. Everybody that I talked to the corners was was was the was not up to par? Yeah? In the last oh no, in the last, Like, wow, man,

we need to make something happen here. We need a big play, because what you said going in halftime, you know, was hey, we gotta make a We gotta make a play that will make these guys packing up. Yeah, yeah, trying to make them. Never did ever made that play. Never didn't make that play, you know, never did, never did. And so that's that's that's worsome. Yeah, I'll tell you what. We're gonna take some calls here to Nate today. The

number is I think it's on the screen. It usually is two one four eight seven two twenty one O two two. Yeah. We got Joe in San Antonio. Joe, welcome to the program. Thanks for having me. Great win. Don't want to knit ticket, but I think they could have done a lot better. Sure. When I say that, I mean Ryan and Terence Williams. Yeah, Dez is a huge part of our salary cap. He's our number one guy. He's the base of the franchise. He has got to

stop pulling up short. He has got to step up in the middle of that field and make those catches. That's why he is there. Yeah, Terrence Williams, great guy, but man, we can do bad with a lot cheaper receiver. He is not catching these balls, and you know, it's like one out of ten that this guy makes a play. They have got to step up and catch the ball. It's fundamentals and they are not practicing them. Thank you, sir. Hey Joe, real quick, Why I got you on the

phone real quick. If you didn't know how much money does made and Terence Williams made, would you still have a problem without they're playing, Yes, sir, because he is a mean So you're not basing this. You're not basing this on the fact that Dez makes twelve fifteen minute howevery much money he makes and Terrence Williams just got resigned, right, it's human nature to do that. But sure didn't know his salary. He is a DeFi number one. We all know regardless of a salary. We all know. And they

have got to step up. We will not go any further than a first round if them two men do not step up. They have to help Dak. Prescott, he is a junior, junior quarterback, help the man. Well, let me ask you this, Prescott, you put any blame it on him? Yes? He is? Okay, And this and this is where it goes goes back to my point, Dad, Brian has to step up and help his quarterback. He is the man on the field. If you're gonna be the man, play like the man. Yeah, okay, Well okay, Well,

now I ask you about Dak. Is Dak do you pointing the finger at Dak a little bit on? What's the receiver's problems have been? Yes, some of it is. And that's and that's where I go back to Dad. Okay, make up for that, Okay, because he's the man. He got to make up for that, all right. Uh you know, brother, And I'm glad you consistent because I'm consistent in that. Yeah. Thanks Joe for Paul. We appreciate you. Man, Joe, I'm loving it because you know what, we're sounding like we

are nippicking, aren't we? But you're trying to figure out you're trying to figure out why you you why we should have blew that game, blowing that game out? It ain't Nick picking, Yeah, it's reality. Uh. When you're a young quarterback, it's nothing more soothing than to have an elite receiver, yeah you know, uh, to help you get to get to get going. Yeah you know, and uh it's nothing like having to the elite receiver to get

everybody else going. Yeah, Da Das has the ability. He had the ability because I don't know to to to raise everybody's else level to play. And when it spread the field because now, uh, like I said, you know, hey, they threw cold Beast the one, yeah, right off his fingertips. They how about how about you throw the ball down the field they threw they threw with and uh and they hit him more than fingertips. Yeah, and don't you know what that would have did for that sure if

you would have caught those balls. Absolutely, you know, the best, the most the best deep there we have nows Hannah. Yeah, how about that. Yeah, Calvin in Atlanta where they just got the power back at Hartsfield Airport. Calvin, what do you got for us? Good morning, Good morning, Hey. I wanted to ask you first h Once. Once the left tackle for the Raiders went out, did the Cowboys defensively ever tried to Yes, yes, yes, yes they tried. They

took that DeMarcus Lawrence. They shoved him over on that right side. Yeah, they knew, they knew, they knew that Marshall Newhouse wasn't capable. We talked about that in the pregame. We talked about that leading up to the game. Marshall Newhouse was the weak link. And I'll tell you what. On the scramble play that he knocked car out of bounce, let Go and Lawrence both were right there and could

not get him to the ground. Because they that he clearly beat Marshall Newhouse around the corner, but just couldn't make it happen. It's called it's called closing the deal. We could not wide received. We couldn't close the deal. Sure we third in short, we could deal. Uh several times we right there on the quarterback. We couldn't close the deal. Yeah, what do you got Calvin? Oh yeah, I heard you guys talking about um, the you know, the creativity, the creativity, you know why we can't win

out that? Sure? Like that? Sure? And I've just noticed I've never I've never been an fan. Now wait a minute, wait a minute. They won thirteen games with Lenahan last year. I'm sure you were a fan. Then don't go there. No, no, no, no, no no, I wasn't a fan. I wasn't. Oh sir, don't lie. No, listen, don't let me tell you. Without Romo he is lost. Oh whoa, whoa, whoa whoa. Now with Romo playing on the sideline, we'll just come out and say you're a Romo fan. Just come out and

say your Romo. Just come out and say you're a Romo fan. I'm a Romo fan, but I'm not a okay, good enough? And where has he won it? You know he doesn't outside of Dallas? Where has he won? All right? All right, cowboy, get off the phone quick. I was about to curl him on that one. Don't you picked him? You picked him clean? But you know what we have to uh, we have to do a better job from

top to bottom. Oh sure, I mean even us is as announces, is you know Covid like we picked him like a rookie quarterback and last year we're picking over the carcass of a win. Yeah, that's wrong with that? All right, Hey, we're gonna take our first break. Calvin. We love you, Joe, we love you. Thank you for the call. We'll take some more calls if you feel free again. Numbers two one, four, eight seven, two, twenty one O two. We will be back with two for

I'm just a Cowboys fan and yesterday I was screaming at TV. We all were. I can't help it. I just every time I see that, I'm like screaming, why didn't you do that? Why didn't you make that play? So what's stood out for you this Yeah, let it stood out? Give us something to

get something to hang our hats on here. M I kind of thought this season would go the way it's going, you know, with the secondary being changed around, in the quarterback being new. I just I figured it'd be a long shot for us to make the playoffs. But I just think, do y'all think that the coaching staff could have done a better job this year? Okay? Yes, sir, all right, appreciate that, Robbie, thank you. You know, when you when you go through this type of year here,

you you always can look at games. And that's one thing with me and brought us that you always make a game. Man. They could have did this, uh, they could have fixed this, su But our coaching staff is set. We know who they are defensively, and they're gonna do uh not a lot of scheming. They're gonna be They're gonna run their scheme and ask that you hustle and played within this game as hard as you can. I see a lot of adjustments are made on the field

with Sean Lee. I saw that yesterday for the first time. I saw what he was making. Some adjustments to the run game and to the passing game. But other than that, sir, the little little movements that he has them do. I on the field, our defense is set offensively. I just think that we can't give a little bit more. As coaches, I would tell you what to do. I've been very critical of Jason Garrett over the years, very critical of him. I've said that he probably should be fired several times.

But you know what, this is a chance. This is a chance where this is a chance where he won the football game. Yes he did. He put the he put the players in the situation to win that game. And to his credit. You know, again, I've been very very critical of him and the staff's inability to make those adjustments that we've talked about. But yeah, he his decision making won that football game yesterday. For him to go for it on fourth I'm surprised he didn't go

for it on fourth and one on the goal line. Myself, I thought he was gonna try and end that game or at least make the Raiders have to go ninety nine yards on him right there. So with all that being said, though, give them a little credit for pulling it out yesterday. Yeah, because it could have very well. It could have very well gone. It could have gone the other way. They could have let things some bad things could have happened there, you know, with the way

it went. I mean, it was a close game and he made some decisions that helped his football team win. The one thing that we get on him a lot, as fans get on him a lot about I think this is what took us down to the wire and he kept us is his calmness. Yeah, that no emotion, even when the big. You know, he was dying inside, you know, even with the big you know what the punt, Yeah, the fake pun and goes his own third and eleven on his twenty four. Yeah, I mean that's a decision

that wins the game. Now he gets killed for that if that doesn't work. Yeah, but you got good blocks, you got a good decision by Chris Jones. I'm gonna give him credit because I'm the one usually kicking him in. You know what. Yeah, because that yeah, that that was that was he went and won that football game for them yesterday. If he would have as the game started caving in, because I like your columnists, I like your

colmnist start when when when it started caving in? And and everybody's coming back out to every bad play, every every bad third, Now every bad third, he continued to, you know, if people, people can get all they came about, get about clapping, keep your head up, next play? Yeah, uh, even all the way into the Jeff Heath last ditch effort, an effort by Wow, it got David and Oklahoma Day, Oklahoma, Dave, what's up? You're on with two for the road. What's up?

I'm so glad to finally get in. Let me take you go, Cowboy. Yeah, there you go. What do you got, hey, Nate, Nate, Yeah, tigg you guys. Man, Oh my god, I'm I'm fifty eight years old. I was born in fifty nine. I started watching the Cowboys when I was ten. Yeah, and uh, other than doing the Marine Corps six years the Marine Corps, I missed about five games only. Yeah, thanks for your service. What do you got man? Uh? What that game yesterday? Oh wow, you know I don't call it a victory.

I just called her a wigan, you know. Yeah, and some of them play callings. Come on, man, you know, uh, well just said the head coach won the game for you yesterday. Yeah, some of them. Oh no, no, give him some credit. You gotta give him to give the credit. But but you know, you can see how much we do seek. Sure you do. We've seen that for six weeks. Oh my lord, yeah, you know, and that and in that third down and gold on that third down and gold man, come on, man, you know, uh wow, we

just we got it. Put the second of our teeth that game, that guys. Yeah, well, thank you, thank you very much for the call. Man, appreciate that. Yeah, man, I'm gonna tell you something, man. Yeah, but you know what it is. So like I said, I woke up this morning and normal I can wake up. I've been gonna wrap my head around. Then I work out and I'm watching the game and I'm I'm and I'm saying to myself, we won this game, and they be excited

because wins are so hard in his league. Sure, in my mind, I kept saying, but brought us, said he's gonna look at the wire receivers. Brought us. Yeah, because I expected this game to be tight until about the middle of the third and I thought we were blow it over. The we was doing the datas uh Cowboys dot Com. I'm like, we got this will but we never never did. We never blew it open. No, And that's but you know again, that's the some of the inconsistencies.

You know, if you want, hey, David, try inconsistency on play call, if you wanted to say that, inconsistency on personnel groups, inconsistent of guys making plays. We talked a bunch some big opportunities. You talked about Williams on the handback after the fake punt they had that play. There's a good call, right there. You gotta come up with you gotta come up with plays. It's as fans. We

have to be better than just the coaching aspect. There's some teams that have bad coaches that overcome bad coaching, yes, and still make plays. You know that, Hey, that coaches are only as good as the players they have. That guy Alabama wins every week because he's got good players. The guy in New England wins every week because his players. He puts his players in situations on the goal line and when it's a fake spike, everybody's covering. He just said.

But that guy in New England puts his players. He does. He does, You don't do. You don't agree on that he does. But how about how about the defense they had on the spike play? They had it covered? Yeah, they had the spike play covered. I mean there was something. How about on the Super Bowl that they when they when they tried to throw the ball to Russell Wilson. Guy, isn't that what the guy said? That the players just had the guys to be a little more creative and

put them in play. You gotta make play, Okay, I'll reach I'm this nitpicking. No, No, we're all nitpicking. Right now, there's a victory victory. Cowboys do win twenty to seventeen. Bobby in California. Did you go to the game last night, Bobby, No, sir, but I watched every second of it in total nervousness, as I usually do. I'm a Cowboy fan since nineteen seventy one. Thank you, h And what I wanted to talk about, particularly for I guess Brian brought us, is that, Uh,

you talked last night. I believe it was after the game on the OTA that you were going to look at the film and see if the receivers were not open or Dak wasn't getting the ball two of the receivers, and you probably didn't have time to see. I saw it. I left here at two o'clock last night, got back here at seven, So yeah, I saw it. They weren't getting open. You got from it and hang up listen to it. Yeah they didn't. I mean when they when they were open, they didn't make enough places that I

know for a fact. But they Nate was talking about it. You got some double coverage to death side. I don't they think that they were really expecting that if they're double covering desks. Other guys got to make it happen. I've talked about the underneath route to Terence Williams. That was a good play. I don't think they got Cole Beasley open enough in this stuff. So yeah, I mean, the Raiders are not a good secondary, and they played like a good secondary last night the way they covered

the Cowboys. You know, and that's a problem. You know, It's kind of been the theme all year long, Nate, when they've played against teams that have been able to cover them. You know, that's something we have to work on, man, work on it. I mean, wow, it's just so nerve wracking that this team has been fortunate enough in these last three games where they could have really build some momentum, especially going into the Raiders game. Yeah, we could have

built more momentum. Now I know that, I know, we know what Zeke brings to the team. Yeah, he helps the play caller because I because I you know, he's been my MVP since the day he walked in this building. Sure, and and and I hate to say this, because they won three three games without him, He's still my MVP. You're surprised that, did you You surprised that they went three and three, or are you happy they went three

and three? Now I'm I'm over with joy that they went three and three because sometimes you know, a lot of people joked that mister Jones when he said that Dak is better for this situation, you weren't buying that. Yeah, I think I think he's right home. I think he's

right on. When when a quarterback gets to experience this these lows and get all of these reps, you know, it's good to get it when you when you when you're the high man and the man, when you get to see the ugly side of it, it drives you even even more to be able. You're buying into the Jerry quarterback. I mean, I remember when we went one and fifteen thirteen and Jimmy used to tell us, do not ever forget that feeling. Yeah, because we don't need

that feeling coming back again. Let that feeling drive you to be a better human being only on the field, but off the sure. So when you had that adverse stuff and you come through it and you still physically and mentally intact hey day, you'll be a better person for it. We got Jordan, he called in on two one, four, eight seven two twenty one h two. Jordan, what do you got? Hey? How's it going? Guys? Good? Hey, it's

got two quick questions. Um, I want you to get your y'all take on the defensive backs from the safety's played last night, and on that third and goal on our offensives last possession, why get it we try to run it in with Rod Smith? I agree with you on that that part. I do agree with you on Yeah, absolutely, they'd run it in earlier in the game with Rod Smith. Why not just let him go right behind? You know? Sometimes again, there's where your personnel groups get me kind

of confused. If you're gonna take a big back, use a big back, especially down there, especially if you've proven to them that you could take a big back and score with a big back. I love Alfred Morris, I really do. But you know what happened Alfred Morris last night? They pulled him out of the game and he lost cold. He went real cold, went cold. And see because he tried to make some moves, man as just not him

and just fall to the ground. Alan's problem and George's question was also about the young defensive backs last night. You know what Brodess. My issue at the beginning of the year, and I have no problems with the way they played. My issue is, when you're young, the first neat two things. I care about technique and no one wa the lineup, right, This league gonna teach you the rest, right and they and they are learning. They are learning the rest as we speak. How about a Woozier stepping up.

Everybody thought that that beast Mode kind of you know, kind of punked in there on that play. Watched the table, now you watched the tape. Yeah, he took right shoulder into beast Mode and he went knocked him sideway. Yeah. Yeah, but you know what I was saying when I saw it, I was like, don't duck your head. No, But he caught him shoulder clay, he went for him, he went form tackle. Next play he comes back, yeah, and stops the third down. There you go that, Yeah, that's yes.

After you have a big bang bang playlist. Yes, I mean he took on a physical back at the point and and and yeah it looked bad like he was a tennis ball bouncing off a tank r But he but when he hit him, beast Mode went sideways and went out of balance, he didn't continue momentum up the field. I get the kid credit for stepping up and like you said, making the play. And the next game and the next it was what was about third and eleven or third and ten, and he stopped what was third

and seven, third and eight, and he stopped him. Oh joys shot, Yeah, I'm talk about the receiver. So the next play he came up and got a team off the field. That's what you gotta do. Okay, We're gonna take our final break here for Douglas so he can kind of gets our sponsors some love. When we come back, we'll take more of your calls at two and four, eight seven, two twenty one two be smoked, and Nate will give you some more fire. We'll be right back.

Yes, and uh yeah, you've got Nate Newton and I Douglas producing for a stud a great job of grabbing all those calls. Speaking of calls, let's go to Mark in Keen, Texas. Mark, what do you got hello, guys? You demand me on? Uh? Well, I had a comment about the ball to DEAs that

was really high. He's got a dacks thrown a lot that we're in a safe spot and they weren't caught down low. So sure, everybody all ye're saying he needs to get it up, But the question is, y, I'll talk about about being in twelve person down thirteen, but it seems to me like when they're in the twenty one personnel, you know, with the fullback in the game, that the ball comes out on time to the routes better,

especially when Zeke is there. You know, it's not everybody talks about the safety, but the how the linebackers react even though they're in the box. You know, they're not playing the run without Zeke there. So my question is do you think when z gets back to he'll be hitting the routes on time better like last year? Because last year Dak just looks to me, you know, really good when when the play action and then hitting the route on time you know, the Beast or whatever. Yeah, yeah,

thank you, Barne. Yeah, I think you're I think you're on something there. It's just it's just cleaner. It's just cleaner because you know what the linebackers, if they bring an eighth this extra safety up, it's just cleaner because you have to make that one or two steps before you drop back. You know, on play action pass, you're gonna make that one or two steps because if Zeke act like he got the ball, people are gonna respond to. You're gonna get a great example of that this weekend

next weekend against Seattle. Because of what happened to Seattle in that game with Gurley in the way he just slammed the ball at him, they have got to figure out, okay, we have got to stop somebody in the running game and Seattle. I mean, I haven't watched the tape, but I'm watching Gurley hit some massive holes and so all of a sudden, I'm starting to think, Okay, you get you get Zeke back. What does that do for your play action game? What does that do for Scott Linehan

calling the game? What does that do for your waggle, your boot game? All those things? Yeah, if you want to if you want to take away the wagon boot and play ends wide, run the ball up inside on these guys. Oh day, all day long, all day long. So I mean to me, I think that. I think that when you when you talk about what Zeke brings, you'll see it. You'll see different adjustments as far as

linebackers stepping out and that's all you need. Let these NFL receivers tight ends, give them a step and they can make some good things happen. Let's go to Peyton in Mississippi. Peyton, what's going on in the great state of Mississippi. Oh, yeah, I appreciate you taking my call, no problem. I'm a Missipi side along, so of course I'm a Jack fan. Go Bulldogs. Yeah, I know Jack. It's got all the intangibles and that kind of thing. I wonder, are you guys concerned or do you think

the coaches are concerned about his accuracy? No, that's just that's just a mechanics thing that maybe gets away from him. That he will work on it. He continues to work on it. Uh, he just I'm with broad. As they started the game well and the way he was doing things, but as the game went on and he got tighter. All of a sudden he begins to feel pressure. He may not look like it, but I tell you you may not look like you feel pressure. But all of

a sudden, the windows get tighter. The raiders got more and more confidence in the side of the game omentum. They was taking more chances. Irvin and Matt coming off the end. So things getting little hectic, and I just think through mechanics and Zeke getting back, and we're looking for answers. Yeah, we are looking for answers, Peyton, And I'll tell you an answer that I you know, you saw him play his career at Mississippi State, and he didn't probably didn't see a bunch of tight window throws.

And now all of a sudden he's having to make tight window throws with receivers that are having trouble making contested catches. How many times he's he throwing the ball. If you know, you think of catch radius, So Terrence Williams, anything behind him is gonna get knocked in the air. So all of a sudden, you're trying to throw balls perfectly to guys because you're worried about the catch radius. Other than Dez Bryant and Cole Cole Beasley being a

small guy. But what happened when the ball went down the field? Maybe Bryce Butler runs that ball down. Maybe Bryce Butler extends to make the play. So all of a sudden, now you're throwing balls into areas and you're worried about if it's going to be a contested play. Perfect example is Cook on the push off against Sean Lee. Yeah yeah, big as radius as well. There you go. Yeah, it's just if if you are gonna make plays, you gotta you got those plays that that helps quarterbacks not

it'll take that chance, right. See. The one guy that can make a contested play is Dez Bryant, but you have to throw him the slant and you have to throw him the end so he can use his body to make the play. But when you're when you don't have a whole hell of a lot of confidence that you're gonna make a tight window throw and it's not gonna get knocked up in the air, then and I

think that's where your problems are. It's not all on Dak, but let's you know, let's look at, okay, the routes that are run the receivers contested plays, but you're asking him to maybe do something he's not capable of doing. He's now, I don't think he's ever gonna be Tom Brady or Drew Brees or any of those guys throwing people open. But what he's gonna do is he's gonna beat you with his feet. He's gonna beat you with

his toughness. He's gonna beat you with his mobility. And when he has to make a good throw, you gotta reward him with a catch. Terrence Williams down the field, throw a deep ball down the field. You gotta make that play. Can't drop that ball. So yeah, I think that's a lot to it. Peyton myself, thank you for your call. I went a long way on that one. I'm not I'm not saying that Dak is just totally that we should just wash our hands of, you know.

But if I'm him and I'm throwing the ball and it's a little bit behind a guy, and I see it getting knocked up in the air all year long, I am I confident throwing it in there on that guy. Yeah, you know, and hold all the other results as a sack, and let's and let's be yeah and when you hold the ball. You're right, you know there's there's some scheme issue too. I mean, you're asking nothing against Jason Witton because on the play to James Hannah, the thirty one

yard play to Hannah, Witton stays in and blocks. Yeah, and he gives them a chance to get the ball down the field. But to ask him to hold Khalil Mack for four seconds because you're waiting for a receiver to get open because you're afraid if you throw him a contested ball it's gonna go up in the air. Yeah, that's that to me? Is that? Yeah, that's not good business. That's not good business at all. Andre Hey in Baltimore. How you doing, man? Good? I'm glad. How y'are doing today? Excellent?

Thank you. I got a quick question, um, especially to me, what do you think about teams getting up for the Dallas Cowboys. Have a crappy year, but for some reason when it comes to the Dallas Cowboys, they want to show up. Yeah, you gotta understand, man, We've had how many Nationals have last game? We've been a Game of the Week twice. I know, we've had a couple of Monday Monday Night a sun. I mean, you know, not only what the cow who the Cowboys are supposed to be,

but the nationally televised games. People people's you know, they stand up watch that the Raiders had something to play for the last night, even though their situation was Yeah, very dim that. Yeah, I mean the Raiders and the Cowboys don't meet that often. Two iconic franchises meeting that last night in that game, and both are kind of tread and water right now. But still, yeah, I think you're always going to get the Cowboys special. Your Cowboys

are always gonna get someone's best shot. One more thing the caller earlier was mentioned about debt performance. Yeah, when you have a rookie receiver in a veteran quarterback, that veteran quarterback, if you want, trust me, he won't go to them. Right. So, at what point does the veteran receiver comes comes to the quarterback assistance? I mean they have to step up. They do have to make them please, they do. They have to get their self opened. They

do not. I have seen uh quality receivers that's being doubled. Yeah, but they get open, they do. Thank you for the call, Andrew. I appreciate that man, he's right, He's it's to your point, Nate, here where we're winning football by the way, Cowboys one twenty to seventeen. Trying to figure out the man, trying to figure out things here and see one thing about it, Man, I got selective memory. I just remember he's hitting him in the back and he and he fumbling it into

an end zone. Were winning. I just can't really remember the rest of that game. Yeah, that game that that you're very close to losing. That football took, it took, it took some unusual I can I give the head coach credit, and I know a lot of people don't want to give the head coach sneak. Yeah, yeah, go for it on your own end of the field. See. See, that's what you gotta do. You gotta be able to

come up with stuff like that. If you know the can do of your team, you got to find a way to make your team, you know, respond, And I think he did. Tony in Atlanta respond to us, what do you got brought us a Nate? What's up? Brothers? We're rolling? What's going on with you? Sir? As well? Hey, look, you know watching that game last night and I've been trying to call. Call you for a couple of weeks brought us sure, because I've been wanting to ask the

question about these receivers typically Cole Beasley. Sure, and if he's a one trick pony or are they only using him like a one trick pony? And then last night I saw him go up the right sideline sure and get a forty yard path or on too him right. I was like, wow, maybe they maybe they knew I was gonna ask this question and decided to go ahead and do it. So is he a one trick pony or they just using him like a one trick pony?

And do you think Switzer is going to be used the same way or as he a one trick pony? I hang up and listen, guys. Appreciate y'all. Thanks Tony, appreciate the call. One trick ponies? Huh? He asked you the question brought us I'll tell you what. You know what though, I I do. I do think that I think Switcher has better downfield capabilities than what Cole Beasley does. And that's not a slap at Cole Beasley, but throwing him a forty yard ball, you saw what can potentially happen.

He doesn't have the extension if the ball is thrown just a little too far. Hell of an effort. But I'll tell you what teams have figured out how to play Cole Beasley. Don't let him escape, you know, don't let him run pivot routes. Don't if you single Okay, And this is where I thought the Raiders and watching their tape, there was plenty of time where Travis Carey was singled up on a slot player. I'm thinking, oh, Beasley's gonna wear this cat out. But no teams have

figured out you gotta walk a safety over there. Look at what happened on the big play the other day against the Giants where where a Smith caught the ball for you know, the big touchdown. What they do. They doubled Bryant and they doubled Beasley and they don't give him a scape. They play the slant and they and they don't allow him to run the pivot. And I think that I think that's more about not being a

one trick pump. But I think that's teams that figure out take away what he's really really good at, and they've tried, they've tried to put him in the backfield. They've tried to move him around. You know, this haven't had a whole lot of success doing it. Let's go to Ross and Houston Ross. What is up? How's it going, guys? It's going well? Thank you. Uh So, here was my question after watching the game last night. Are we better off without Zeke? Well? Do we have a better chance?

Games about Hyron Smith? Yeah? Lee? Oh there you go, all right now you qualified it. I thought there you'd taken your crazy pills with the cup of the cup of Gatorade. Well, no, I just don't. I just don't. I don't see as winnings, we gotta have Sean Lee and we can't win without Hiring. I think you can. No, No, I think you can win without Turns Smith as long as you have Ezekiel Eliot. I do, I mean, because I know you can. I think, I mean, I do.

I mean I feel like that. And it sounds like talking to some people this morning, I mean listening to Brad Sham. I know those guys were Kay got home at four forty this morning. Brad kind of felt like that maybe Tyron would miss this game, which you know, and you know the grand scheme of things. I mean you need all hands on deck for Seattle. I mean

they're really banged up as well. But yeah, but I think Ezekiel Elliott makes up for a lot of ills that you might have with your offensive line if things are not blocked perfectly. He is not going to take a negative play where last time the playoff, Oh you no way, you said Tyren Smith, I didn't. Smith and saw Lee. I think they're more valuable than Absolutely they are not. I don't know if they're more valuable than You're three and three with your three and three with

Zeke and and Shawn Lee and Tyron Smith. You know you know what I'm saying, Well, you're right, and and and and the thing about it is that also what I told contradict what I said, don't do that. That's that's quarterback rating his forty three points higher with z. Yeah, there you go. So he helps, he helps the coordinator, he helps the defense. There's a reason why Rod Marnelli signed off on him two years ago. Rod Marinelli knew

what was going on. He's like, well, you're gonna control the ball, you're gonna get you know, you're gonna run from first down? Yeah sure, Oh yeah, Jalen rams about him. Let me ask you this question for Lee? Who is your MVP his team? That's the question. Yeah, I'm asking you. No no, no, no, no, no, don't hang up, don't hang up? Is you who ask you a question? Is Shaun Lee you MVP? Is uh Smith you MVP? Who is your MVP? That that's the question. Is of those three?

I think it's Shaun Lee because our defense is thirteen points the game higher without him. I think we have a better chance winning in the playoffs with Shaun Lee without z with Zeke, without Lee, I would take I would take my chances without Tyron Smith. Because I asked you. I asked these guys the other day if I thought they thought that that Lyle Collins is the third best offensive lineman playing right now? How do use a second? Oh second? Bath? This is fun, in't nate you know what?

Thank you for the call, ROSS appreciate it. Thank you. Yeah, But I don't seek your VP any I don't challenge people a lot. But see that that that's where quit looking to listen to these people on the quick listening to just listen to me because Zeke is hit. Yeah, that's where it begins. And that's where it ends. Okay, you know if you know you you you you think Sean Lee or Tyron Smith, you can be missing both of them and Zeke will fix it. Was ailing you? Yeah,

all we need is a half of block. Yeah, you know, and we go. And I didn't think that any burn belt. I didn't think he played terrible. I'd say something, thirty two minutes with Zeke controlling the ball, you get seven points? Yeah versus no, Zeke? You got the other two guys you get you you you you handled thirty two minutes, all you scoring is three. You still lose the game. With Zeke. You get there. There was no question, there was no question. Get seven, you get seven points everything. Yeah,

don't don't don't don't you know, I don't. Don't get out in fantasy land. Football is real, bro. And what Zeke does, he's a one He's a one in a million type player. Yeah, you know, he makes it. You survived it. Now, both both coordinators a better A better coordinator, absolutely, you know, absolutely, Just think if we would have had Zeke and we was and was willing to take all them chances that we took last night. Sure, there's a no brain that that thing. They're not sticking a card

in between the poll. That's the first I'm going now, yeah, come on now exactly. I'm with you, Nate, I'm with you on that. All right. Well, hey, that's all the time we have for two for the road today. I want to thank everybody that called in. We do a pre question. That last callum, that's old Ross. Oh Ross, wellyo, Ross, I'm out to make sure you come on last show. Educate you.
