Episode description

Five Looking at Ten is an upcoming month-long series on ICD10monitor and Talk Ten Tuesdays, through which we will examine what lessons have been learned since the nation’s healthcare system adopted ICD-10, which became effective Oct. 1, 2014. Each week, we will report on lessons learned as we approach year five – while at the same time, looking ahead to the implementation of ICD-11.

Joining us during this broadcast is our special guest is Denise Buenning, who, during the run-up to ICD-10, was the deputy director for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Office of E-health Standards & Services.

The broadcast will also feature these other segments:

  • Five Looking at Ten - Coding Report: Laurie Johnson, senior healthcare consultant at Revenue Cycle Solutions, LLC, reports on lessons learned as the nation prepares for the transition from ICD-10 to ICD-11, as well as the prerequisite training.
  • Five Looking at Ten - The CDI Report: Donna Rugg, American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) director of HIM Practice Excellence, Terminology Mapping, Coding, and Data Standards, reports on lessons learned with clinical documentation integrity under ICD-10.
  • News Desk: Timothy Powell, compliance expert and ICD10monitor national correspondent, anchors the Talk Ten Tuesdays News Desk.

  • TalkBack: Erica Remer, MD, FACEP, CCDS, founder and president of Erica Remer, MD, Inc. and Talk Ten Tuesdays co-host, will discuss the need for healthcare professionals to tear down silos and work in a spirit of collaboration.
