不道章第三十以道佐人主者，不以兵強天下。其事好還。師之所處，荊棘生焉。大軍之後，必有凶年。善者果而已，不敢以取強。果而勿矜，果而勿伐，果而勿驕。果而不得已，果而勿強。物壯則老，是謂不道，不道早已。
第 三 十 章
以 道 佐 人 主 者 ， 不 以 兵 强 天 下 。
其 事 好 远 。
师 之 所 处 ， 荆 棘 生 焉 。
大 军 之 后 ， 必 有 凶 年 。
善 有 果 而 已 ， 不 以 取 强 。
果 而 勿 矜 ， 果 而 勿 伐 ， 果 而 勿 骄 。
果 而 不 得 已 ， 果 而 勿 强 。
物 壮 则 老 ， 是 谓 不 道 ， 不 道 早 已 。
Dì sānshí zhāng
yǐ dào zuǒ rén zhǔ zhě, bù yǐ bīng qiáng tiānxià. Qí shì hǎo yuǎn. Shī zhī suǒ chù, jīngjí shēng yān. Dàjūn zhīhòu, bì yǒu xiōng nián. Shàn yǒu guǒ éryǐ, bù yǐ qǔ qiáng. Guǒ ér wù jīn, guǒ ér wù fá, guǒ ér wù jiāo. Guǒ ér bùdéyǐ, guǒ ér wù qiáng. Wù zhuàng zé lǎo, shì wèi bù dào, bù dào zǎoyǐ.

30. Violence
Powerful men are well advised not to use violence,
For violence has a habit of returning;
Thorns and weeds grow wherever an army goes,
And lean years follow a great war.
A general is well advised
To achieve nothing more than his orders:
Not to take advantage of his victory.
Nor to glory, boast or pride himself;
To do what is dictated by necessity,
But not by choice.
For even the strongest force will weaken with time,
And then its violence will return, and kill it.
用道来行使主权的人，不靠武力而称强天下。用武力总是有报应的。军队进驻之地，荆棘便长出来；每逢大战之后，凶年接着来到。
良善自会结果，无须强夺硬取。成了而不矜持，成了而不炫耀，成了而不骄傲，成了像是不得已，成了而不逞强。
任何事物一逞强示壮就会老朽，这不是出于道。不是出于道的，是早已注定要死亡了。
用道來行使主權的人，不靠武力而稱強天下。用武力總是有報應的。軍隊進駐之地，荊棘便長出來；每逢大戰之後，凶年接著來到。
良善自會結果，無須強奪硬取。成了而不矜持，成了而不炫耀，成了而不驕傲，成了像是不得已，成了而不逞強。
