Onto GV. This is Sydney now.
With Clinton, Monday, June sixteen, one three one eight seven three. It is Clinton Maynard. Here is the bloody reality of Sydney's gang war is being played out on streets right now, right now in Sydney, in broad daylight. A shooting in Auburn this afternoon outside a kebab shop, outside a tobacconist, Yes, a tobacconist in South Parade. Three men have been shot. Went across to our reporter in just a moment, Josh Bryant,
who's on the scene. But this is what police have been warning us about, brazen daylight assassination attempts that can affect innocent people. Now, we don't have a lot of detail about the victims yet, those who've been shot, other than I've seen some vision from the Channel nine helicopter of a man on a stretcher is covered in blood being taken away by paramedics. The Premieer has reacted, the Police Minister's reacted. Later this afternoon, the acting Police Commissioner
will hold a press conference. The fact that those at the very top and our reacting to this is an indication of how serious it is. South parade middle of the date. It's a quarter past one and shots ring out in the middle of that busy part of Auburn while people are buying a kebab. This is the sort of advance we can't accept in Sydney or Cross for our reporter Josh Bright in just a moment. We'll also keep you up to date with all developments from the
Middle East. One liberal MP is now saying that the world should be thankful for what Israel is doing. We'll discuss that on straight shooters. We're going to look at being left out of pocket when you need surgery in hospital. Many of us pay a small fortune for private health insurance, but increasingly the gap fee is growing. Are we being ripped off by specialists? We'll find out. Mark Gira is on with me after five point thirty. He did beat me in the footy tips this weekend, and I'll spin
two GB's Winter Wheel. This is your chance to win hundreds of dollars, actually maybe thousands, some great prices as well. Don't call yet, we're going to play later in the program two GB's Winter Wheel. You are my eyes and ears when it's happening in Sydney now, so text me zero fourth zero eight seven three eight seven three have you say one three one eight seven three. Well in Sydney now the hunt is underway the gunman following this
brazen daylight shooting in Auburn South Parade. I'll bring our reporter in, Josh Bryant, who's on the scene. Josh, whereabouts you right now?
Good afternoon, Clinton.
Yes, that's right.
I'm on South Parade here and where police have locked off the remainder of this street. It's right near the exit to the train station. So there's a large crowd of people. I guess those who are just coming out are heating into the train station seeing police taper wondering what's going on. Plus a crowd that have gathered when they see this is gathering police blocking the street further up from cars coming down obviously people wondering why there is a gathered media pack as well. You can see
one police ban from where we are. Police still obviously at the seed where they're shooting occurred. What we know so far two men and a woman injured. As you mentioned that, there was that footage of a man with blood on his head or face. As far as we understand it, all three have been taken to hospital, but their exact condition and their exact injuries unclear. Aside from that they are being treated for gunshot boothes.
So just to confirm, two men and a woman. Do we know if they were actually inside that the Brothers Kuldbab shop at the time or was just outside that strip of shops.
Still working on that detail. Not Able to confirm exactly whether they were, as you say, inside the premise or just outside when it occurred. Also, exactly what has sparked it or what may be involved still unclear at this early stage of the investigation. As you said, we are expecting to hear from senior police later this hour and I'll keep you informed obviously if any further development that here.
I've spoken to some people here at the scene who've described their shock, and one man were saying he was just coming to go to the bank in the afternoon and he saw a couple of emergency services fly past him on the way, and then when he got here the streets blocked off. So obviously he's now just left wondering when everything will return to normal.
Josh, can you just describe to me the other shops that are in that strip near the kebab shop.
I can't see it's around the corner. But this is a pretty busy strip. There's you know, I'm standing outside a bakery, there's a butcher, there's grocery stores, rest you know, fast food restaurants, cafe. So just a busy strip, as I said, sad right next to the train station. So a lot of foot traffic key to these businesses are now their afternoon disrupted because their street has become a serious crime scene.
Okay, Josh will keep checking in with you throughout the afternoon. So that is South Parade in Auburn. Josh is there at the scene where two men and the women have been shot. They have now been taken to hospital. We don't have details of their condition yet, other than I can tell you from the vision that I've seen of one man he was covered in blood. But given the premiere, the police Minister and the Acting Commissioner all now speaking
about this, this is obviously very serious. Mister Minns has said, this is shockingly brazen. The New South Wales Police Force investigators are already hunting down those responsible. We don't stand for it. New South Wales Police don't stand for it. The New South Wales police forces level charges in relation to twenty the twenty five organized crime murdis since twenty twenty one, and they're not done yet. People committing this kind of violence can expect to be arrested, charged and
spend years inside small jail cells. It's good to hear the Premier speak so strongly about that, but this has also now been going on for some time. But when it gets to the stage that the shots are being fired in these busy areas in the middle of the day, that's when we've got to get really serious about confronting this.
You want to know what's happening in Sydney, stay tuned to Sidney out with Glenton lan ont GB.
Okay, we have major problems on the transport network this afternoon, specifically the train lines. No trains are running at all between Hurstville and Sutherland on the T four. There's been a power problem that is affecting the entire T four line of power problem between Walleye Creek and Sutherland. Replacement buses have been requested. Passengers are advised to make alternative
travel arrangements or allow plenty of extra time to get home. Look, reality is and kids are finishing school right now, and I use the T for almost every day. Plenty of kids use those trains at this time of the day. It's all well and good for transport from yourself. Well, to say find alternative means of transport, it's often impossible. So the reality is if you're on the T four
this afternoon, you're going to be facing long delays. There are no trains currently operating between Sutherland and Hearstville in both directions. I'll bring you news if those trains get back up and running.
Well.
The Prime Minister has now held his first talks as part of the G seven trip that he's on in Calgary. He's met with the Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and this is the head of the critical meeting with the US President Donald Trump. He's been asked whether they discussed the Israeli Iran conflict during the discussion with the leader of Canada, and here's what he's had to say about that situation.
The discussion with President Trump, I expect will be very much about Australia and the United States and our relations. That will be very much so focus. We've got a few things to talk about and that is will be the focus. For our discussions.
We did discuss Israel.
And Iran, and both of US, I think share a view wanting to see a de escalation of conflict, wanting to prioritize dialogue and diplomacy.
The likelihood of declaration the issue being resolved because of dialogue is probably not strong at the moment. Mister Trump says the US could become involved in the conflict, which is intensifying. He says, we're not involved in it at the moment. It's possible we could get involved, but at the moment we're not involved. The fightings entered a fourth day. Iran's launched waves of drones and missiles. In the past
twenty four hours. Israel has hit the Iranian capital. Fires have now been observed in the last hour or so at a power plant in the vicinity of northern Israel's Hayfa Port. More ballistic missile attacks have been launched. So this is not going to simply be sold through diplomacy as much as mister Alberinizy, mister Karney and other world leaders might like.
Until six, This is Sydney now with Clinton Maynard on two GB call now one three one.
We have a pack program coming up for you this afternoon. Coming up next more on social media driving dangerous hijinks on the train network. I want to hear from you. You can send me text messages zero foros X zero eight seven three eight seven three my number one three one eight seven three. This is Sydney now. It's sixteen degrees in the coast, seventeen degrees at Campbelltown one three one eight seven three and number. What's the future for
department stores in our city? I've had today confirmed another major closure. We're going to bring your details after three point thirty. If you'd like to have your say, send me an email to gb dot com. No trains are running between Hurstville and Sutherland in both directions because of a power problem. This message from Julian regarding the trains a tip for those wanting to get to Sutherland specifically catch the train to Padstow on the T eight, so
that'd be from the city. Then you can catch the nine to sixty bus from Padstow station to Sutherland station. That's a really good tip, Thank you, Julian. Let's cross to Tom. Hello Tom, Hey have you tried to catch the train home today?
Oh?
What a circus, What a debacle. I sat at the station at Hearst. No one can give us any after going from the city. Now one can give us any feedback. And then they basically said get off, there's electricity issues, powers down, no buses are offered. They just said no one could tell us where the taxis are caught an expensive over about almost seventy bucks. Only lucky I got here. But everyone's freaking out on the trains. Some of the older people and a lot of people come and pick up their kids.
This is half the problem, Tom. The communication is appalling.
It was horrible, but to be fair, I mean there was two guards there trying to field forty questions. They were outnumbered and they were freaking out as well.
Now one can help, Okay, we'll try and get the message out there. Good on your time. We don't know yet when the trains are going to be restored. It's a power problem around Walleye Creek. Susan on the text Lune says the trains are stuffed again. I'm trying to get to Sutherland from the city. There are no announcements as to why. Any news. Well, it is a power problem.
We believe it's around Walleye Creek. But again the information is very scant at the moment, but there are no trains running at all between Hurstville and Sutherland, look just on trains. On Friday, I raised the case of the thirty three year old alleged lunatic, and I say alleged because this bloke is before the courts who's been charged with leading police on several chases on his motorbike. This guy's accused of filming the chases while reaching speeds of
two hundred and ninety nine kilometers an hour. And it's a trend that is increasing because it's been fueled by social media, particularly with teenagers, and that trend is people posting this outrageous lunatic style behavior on social media, kids who think the best way to gain notoriety, to gain likes on whether it's Facebook, it's probably not Facebook. For young people, it's probably Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat is to film
themselves doing crazy things. And I made the point that police are reporting a particular increase on the train network, and I had a couple of listeners getting contact with me on Friday saying, oh no, it's not social media. This has been going on since we were kids. And yes, to an extent, it has been going on for decades, but assure you in twenty twenty five, it is social media that is supercharging this stuff, and the police will
confirm it. And sure, it's impossible to stop teenagers being idiots, a lot of them are born that way. But the government can do more to better control access to social media, and maybe it would prevent a few of these young kids doing something stupid. Maybe it would prevent somebody dying at some point. I raised this because I've been set at video today and we'll put this up online on
two GB dot com. The sort of outrageous behavior that's going to get someone killed, and it's a demonstration of what kids are doing to get likes on the train network. Now you can go to our website and our social media will show this a little later, but this is part of what it sounds like. So what this video depicts is some young teens getting access to the driver's compartment at the rear of the train, so the other
end from where the train's being driven. Somehow they've got it anyway, They've grabbed a fire extinguisher and from outside
an open door, they open the door. They start spraying that fire extinguisher, and you can see the retardant flowing down the side of the train which is traveling it must be at seventy eighty kilometers an hour, and it looks like the train is It looks like the train's on fire at one point because there is so much it looks like smoke, but it's a fire retardant anyway, Eventually they drop this red fire extinguisher and it crashes
down to the rails below. And if that fire extinguisher remains in the rails, it's the sort of thing that could easily derail the train and imagine the harm that would cause. And it follows another video that I saw over the weekend of kids hanging out of train doors. Now, yes, that sort of stuff's been going on forever, but what it's being fueled by is this desire to become some sort of social media celebrity by doing crazy things on trains, riding on the top of carriages, clinging onto the back
of them. Sooner or later, someone's going to be killed by this sort of behavior. And yes, it's been going on for decades, but the fact that I've been sent this video today just a few days after talking about it just proves my point. It is social media that drives this lunatic style behavior on the train network, and sooner or later it'll end up in someone dying. Look, if you've got kids, you've got teenagers, how do you
control it? You probably it's very, very difficult. And that's where I'm supportive of the government's move to bring the access age to social media down because even though a lot of smart kids are still going to get around it, that's just reality. It gives parents another another argument when they're trying to set down the ground rules for their
kids about their how to behave. And yes, they've been hanging outside train doors since we were little as well, but if it prevents a few of them doing it, it may well save a life. One three eight seven three is my number. Twenty five past three. I was broadcasting the program from New Sydney Airport, the Western Sydney's National Airport, Badgeries Creek or Bradfield as the city is
going to be known as. Last week and today the government announced their increasing the expended share on the development of infrastructure in that region by eight hundred and thirty five million dollars in the budget that's going to be handled down in a couple of weeks time, and having been there, the money is desperately needed because the airport is just it'll be a massive driver of economic growth, but they need the basic infrastructure in place, and of
course much has been planned for years, but they need a lot more and driving along Elizabeth Drive now, I know Elizabeth Drive is not going to be used as the main road into the airport. That'll be the M twelve motorway when that opens up, but Elizabeth Drive is such a significant road still and much of it is
a goat track. There'll be a billion dollars for the first stage to the fifteenth Avenue upgrade between Liverpool and the airport, another billion dollars for Mamary Roads Stage two upgrade, which is very close to where we were, and more than two billion dollars for the M twelve and the M twelve will be toll free, which I know, in this day and age is a bit of a surprise,
but it's good. On the issues of social media and how kids these days are using it and filming their stunt Paul says, look, teens are always going to get up to mischief, no more or less. They just have cameras now. Thank god my mother knew what we got up to because we didn't film it, so she didn't know. The police will say the reports of it are increasing, and quite dramatically in the last in the last five years or so, Michael says, I've seen heaps of these
videos on Snapchat and TikTok. I saw a motorbike yesterday who'd done a wheelie on Luxford Road overtaking a police car. You're kiddy, Michael, with a cardboard number plate in big black text. A fake cardboard number plate with three letters on it. Unbelievable. ACDC is go to two of the country. Yes, they're a little older these days, but they'll be back. Peter four with the details shortly. Let's check out his headlines and we've got the lads.
Katie Pullan, Good afternoon, Clinton. True men and a woman have been the target of a brazen lunchtime shooting at Auburn in Sydney's southwest. They were attacked outside a Turkish restaurant near the railway station. No trains are running between Sutherland and Hurstville on the te for Eastern Suburbs and Illawarra line. A power supply issue is halting services. Strict regulations for the important sale of vapes are believed to
be driving black market sales. Data from the Therapeutic Goods Administration suggests fewer than one in sixteen hundred of the products are being purchased legally at a pharmacy and ambulance staff and volunteers from across the state have been recognized at a special awards ceremony in Newcastle. In Sport, Dolphin's enforcer, Police Kefuzi has entered an early guilty plea after being charged with dangerous contact against the Cowboys. He'll miss the next two games. Clinton More news at.
Four kkat sixteen degrees in the coast at seventeen degrees of Bankstown. At the moment, police are still at the scene of a shooting in northwestern Tasmania where a police officer has been shot and killed. Today police were called to a resident cential property in a small town called North Martin in relation to routine duties. Allegedly, a member of the public shot of the police officer as the officer approached the house. Another police officer consequently discharged their
firearm towards the offender, who then surrendered the police. The police officer was critically injured and died at the scene. The offender was not seriously injured. That person is in custody right now. The acting Police Commissioner, Peter Thurtell will hold a press conference in about fifteen minutes time about what's unfolded in Auburn this afternoon. In South Parade, two men and a woman have been shot. We still are
seeking the final confirmation of their conditions. They're now in hospital, but police are now treating this very seriously. The Police Minister will also provide an update at three point forty five. Will bring that to you as it comes to hand.
You want to know what's happening in Sydney, stay tuned to Sidney Out with Clinton on to GV.
The nominees for this year's Logis have been announced today. To Ford is covering all the details TI peterde Glendon.
Yes, it's quite an eclectic group of people and a few strange sort of absentees from it, but they're all terrific talents. Now it's a bit of a mystery. Even I don't quite understand the process to get to today's point. As I understand that the networks all have a chance to put up the people who they would like they can choose. I think it's four people each, and then this mystery group of industry insiders then whistles it down to the final seven that were revealed this morning at
the Opera House at a function there. So it's also interesting that some people might only be on air for a short burst in the year, but they're still get into this category, whereas other people are on every night of the week, such as Ali langdon you know, doing a current affair there every night. Obviously you're in people's homes, you're in their faces a lot more than some of the others. So she is nominated for the Gold LOGI I would have to say I think she'd have a
pretty good chance. Bish Blake is also nominated for Lego Masters. Now that's an example of what I was saying, where he's only on air for a burst and yet he's still made the impact that he's got onto this list again. Julia Morris similar thing on air for those eight or nine weeks of I'm a Celebrity, Get Me out of Here. Lisa Miller from the ABC Now, she of course has left ABC News Breakfast, but she's still got quite a
presence doing other things on the ABC. Lynn McGranger, Irene from Home and Away, and I would think I would probably think she'd be the shortest odds because she's leading the show, lots of good will attached to her. Poe ling Yow from Master Chef, what a great story that is. You know, she was the runner up on the first season and she's gone on to have this great career in her own right. And Sonya Krueger, don't discount her.
She's been there before and got up and won, so this could have gained be her year.
Peter, there's a bit being made about the fact there's only one mail amongst the contenders, Hamish Blake from Lego Masters, is that Look, do you think there's something deliberate behind that?
No, I just think it's how the cards fell, you know, as I say, it does get into a kind of blurry area where this mystery group of insiders get to choose the final seven. So, look, it's a strange sort of competition. It really is, because obviously, if the network doesn't put you up in the first place, you haven't got a chance. And then if the mystery group of TV insiders don't select you you haven't got a chance, so you know, and now it becomes the public's job to make that finals decision.
Now, this is going to make many people happy. We've had news today that ACDC is going to tour Australia again.
Yeah, so it looks like it's quite definite. We haven't got the exact dates yet. There's still I think juggling a couple of things, but it's November December of this year. The concert in Malobourn, interestingly is set for the MCG. Now what I did think, and this is just a random thought. The last something like that happened was was Billy Joel and he was exclusive to Melbourne. You had to go to Melbourne to suh. No, no, well, I don't want to throw the grenade just yet. But they
are definitely playing the MCG in Melbourne. But of course the huge in Melbourne. I mean, they were formed in Sydney. But there's a special affinity for ac DC in Melbourne because that famous you know when you look at it now, pretty tacky, low budget video clip for long Way to the Top as they go down Swanson Street in Melbourne on the back of the truck. But yeah, they'll feel at least one show at the mcg I don't doubt that, but I would be surprised if it is a Melbourne exclusive.
Peter, there will be a right in Sydney if ac DC don't come here, because this has actually been an issue honestly, before State Parliament this year. There's been a demand for a memorial to be erected in Burwood because the original home of the Young Brothers has been knocked down and one of the MP's said to the Premier we want a memorial and he's now conceded. Yet we'll consider that. There will be a rite down mc correy Street if Akadaka don't come here.
Oh wow, Well, in Melbourne there's actually ac DC Lane. They've actually named the street after them. So the competition that the love is on. Good on you, Peter, Thanks Clinton, Peter Ford.
They better be back to see I'm not a massive Akadaka fan, but honestly, if Melbourne has secured an exclusive concert, there's gonna be a lot of outrage in Sydney because, let's be honest, they're from Sydney, They're not from Melbourne. Okay, Bond Scott was from Perth, but come on, they need to be in Sydney one three one eight seven three on this issue of how social media is being used to fuel crazy behavior on Sydney's train network by younger people. Mike diet I Mike got.
A Clinic, Good show tonight, all this stuff, and well, the only way it's going to work is if they start to actually put some identifier on these people who are posting it. The easiest way to do that would be simply tie each account to a mobile number and have it verified the same way as you do with a bank account. They just reading through and ask them to verify the number you sent it to.
So that'd be up to the social media the tech giants, So those who runs some meta for instance Instagram, they'd have to institute that.
Wouldn't They would have to institute it. But they've got to do something. And I mean, as long as they've got anonymity, this is going to continue and there's nothing an you want can do about it. You've got to remove the anonymity for the post.
But this is the crazy thing. I've been looking at some of these videos today and some of the videos I wouldn't put up on our website because you can clearly identify who the kids are, so they don't worry about trying to be anonymous. They're putting themselves out there.
But they're not particularly smart, obviously, But that's not the point. The point is, but apart from the inappropriate behavior, it's the inappropriate post people are putting, the abuse they're putting unless you unless you put to put your name to it, same as you do if you're in a newspaper. You have to identify yourself you want letters to the editor or anything else.
Yep, good on you, Thank you, Mike. This text message from Virginia zero four x zero eight seven three out seven, three week or so ago. I was returning from Glenbrook to Parramatta. The Guard was making numerous requests for people not to force the closure of the carriage doors while in operation. Also Lapston, there were young people drinking hard. So that's what's it called now that that was called
hard solo. They've changed the name. But that lemon alcoholic drink, blatantly drinking on the train at three o'clock on a Saturday afternoon. Maybe security should return. Hey, look, reality is it's been happening for years. But it's this this desire some reason. Kids just want to be famous online and they think they can get there. They think they can get there by posting videos on Instagram or Snapchat or TikTok. It's going to get someone killed sooner or later. It's
twenty four. We all talk to the Acting Police Commissioner, Peter Fertill after the four o'clock news on the unfolding situation at Auburn where three people have been shot. Two men and a woman are in hospital if to have been shot in broad daylight outside a kebab shop South Parade. We'll speak with the acting Police Commissioner after four o'clock word on the street. Thanks to Tempa a great night's
sleep night after night. The difference is temper. When you see something around Citney that we need to know about, send me a text message zero for zero eight seven three out seven three. If you'd like us to investigate something, you can email me two GB dot com received a message from Charles and Charles says David Jones. Castle Hill Castle Towers will be closing down next March March twenty twenty six. There'll be quite a few job losses there as well. As part of the closure. There's been a
breakdown in negotiations between the center management and the company. Well, we've put this to David Jones today and you are right, Charles. David Jones spokesperson has confirmed David Jones Castle Towers will close on March twenty twenty six. We will work with Castle Towers team members to find redeployment opportunities wherever possible. So team members is a fan known for jobs and staff, so hopefully people won't be out of a job. David Jones Tugra will also close so on the Central Coast
January twenty twenty six. They did confirm that one was announced back in April of twenty twenty two. David Jones says we're looking forward to relaunching stores that are currently owner refurbishment, including Bondai and Chatswood. Joe Munroe is the founder of the Savvy Shopperholic. She is an expert when it comes to shopping and department stores. Hello Joe, Hi. This has been a trend for a little while department
stores closing down. Is it disappointing that DJs will close Castle Towers and some other stores?
I think it is.
Really disappointing, But I've got to say, we've all got a little bit lazy with doing our online shopping being aggressive it. You know, we can get really good bargains by doing letting our fingers do the walking online. So I don't think people do as much browsing going into shopping centers and wandering around and purchasing what they see anymore. I think we're a little bit smarter in the way we What I.
Don't quite understand is why it's White's department stores that are feeling this pain when you see places like a Kmart doing really well, and then when the profit results are released by Kmart's owners, they're always very strong.
Oh, Kmart has a cult following. But I also think it's about the value. So people don't mind spending a lot of money on high price items if they're getting value for it. Kmart obviously more aggressive pricing, So you know, if I buy a designer item from David Jones, I expect better service than what I would expect from Kmart. It's just kind of human nature. Now came I give good service, don't get me wrong, But I think it is about the perception.
Yeah, so if people are seeking really good service, how can online offer that? Why would they be abandoning a department store for online shopping if service was so important.
I don't think we're only ever going to go to online. I think some of these big shopping centers I call shopping department stores. Maya and David Jones were very slow get online. So there are a lot of pure players that were online only that really refined the way that they targeted their customers in the early days. David Jones and Meyer, considering sort of the last ten years, are relatively now really up in their game online. I know David Jones, I'd buy a lot from David Jones online,
but i'd buy from David Jones online on sales. I don't buy full price from David Jones online. So back to that value.
Position, Joe, Is it a matter of people going into a David Jones or might be Amia another major department store, having a look at things, then going home and buying it online.
They would go and I would recommend to people, as a person who talked about shopping, I would recommend doing a comparison shop, so find something great, even down to books. You know, eBay have a great app that you can actually scan a barcode and see what price things are going for on eBay. Always do that to see that gives you kind of the medium price of what things are going for. Why would you pay full price. So that's my thing about David Jones having the stores open.
It's very expensive per square meter of those store space. And with Maya I used to work. I used to have a relationship with Maya back in one of my jobs at Telstray. They factor everything on their return on investment on floor space, that sort of thing. It's very expensive to have these big stores open. Less expensive to
run a really killing online store. Now, we always will want to go in and try the shoes on, or you know, lift something up, or see if the color suits you, or you know, those that will never be replaced. But I can see why these major department stores are lowering the size of their footprint because of the cost.
Like most people, I do buy things online these days, but I also still like to go with a store. One of the reasons I do have a preference for going to a store is if I need to take something back, I just find it easier to take it back to the store. Is that a big advantage for a David Jones or a Maya.
Yeah, look, I love to do the best of both worlds. So if I'm buying from David Jones or Mayer, I will often do click and collect that you can go in and just get the thing that you purchased in within two hours. Or you know, maybe your bud in the morning, you pick it up in the afternoon, try it on and then return it immediately.
Yeah.
So yeah, it's about getting the best bang for your buck and making things as easy as possible. But you know David Jones online, they do send you a free parcel post sticker to return things. Yeah, so they've really they've really smoothed out their game. But it is sad that the stores are closing because there's nothing better than wandering around the shop and.
Picking up all the beautiful am Absolutely thanks your time, Joe, Welcome Jay Munroe, who's the savvy shoppaholic. Look, you know, I'm a big fan of guitars over in the UK.
I think the biggest guitar chain retailer has just closed, and that followed the closure of the second biggest retail And these are chains and the reason they are is because people, particularly in Europe, are buying musical instruments online, which I think is terribly risky because it's great to be able to pick up something, but are we going to get to that stage where our department stores just disappear, that we're going to buy everything online and we won't
be able to try it before we buy it. What's your experience being let me know. One three, one eight seven three is our number. It's five to four. The latest from Auburn where three people have been shot at a kebab store. Now we can confirm the Acting Commissioner Peter Thurtell and the Police Minister Yasmin Cantley are currently addressing the media, and the Acting commission will join me
after four o'clock. We can confirm at least one of the victims is completely innocent, somebody who was not targeted. Now we believe that as a fifty year old woman who's been shot twice in the stomach. A twenty six year old male has been shot in the arm and the shoulder. Acting Commissioner Thirdtael has now told us that two masked gunmen walked into the kebab shop. This is Brothers Kebabs, South Parade, Auburn, broad Daylight. They've opened fire
at least eight shots. Now they've struck two men, including that twenty six year old and the fifty year old woman who is an innocent person. The second male has been shot in the face. All of those three people have been taken to hospital. The police say the two offenders then attempted to get into an office. This is at the kebab shop. They've then fled the scene in the black BMW. They have not been found yet. Police
are out there searching for this black BMW. So as it stands at the moment, a fifty year old woman is in hospital. She's been shot twice in the torso. Police say she is completely innocent. Twenty six year old man's been shot in the arm and shoulder. Another man has been shot in the face. We will speak with the acting Police Commissioner, Peter Thurtell after four o'clock.
If it matters to you, you'll hear it here. Sydney Now withod Clinton Maynard.
Until there have been major dramas on the T four train line between Bondi Junction, Cronulla and Waterfall this afternoon with the latest Jazz tumba from Sydney Trains. Have the train services been restored Jazz.
Yes, we have started moving trains again after the power supply issues we had approximately two pm this afternoon we had a power surge which knocked out our signaling system and the overhead wire power. But the power has now been restored and the signing system is now fully operational and we have got trains moving again so.
That they are running in both directions through Inhearstville and Sutherland they are now.
Yes, that's correct. There will be a challenge in getting the frequency of service moving, as you can appreciate, we've got some caps, so for passengers it's just allow you some additional extra travel time if you are going to operate orfully you are going to catch services on the T four on the south coast.
Does the timetable be any resemblance to what's actually happening at stations.
Right now, It won't do, And we're trying to ensure there's a frequency of service going forward. So there'll be a gradual increase in the number of services in the next hour or so and we'll try and get ourselves back to a fifteen minute frequency as a minimum for the afternoon peak.
So for the rest of the afternoon what's your advice forget the times that will just go to your train station.
Yeah, go to the train station, but please allow some extra trouble time and listen for announcements regarding the services that we're operating.
Okay, thanks to the information Jazz Tamba from Sydney Train. So the trains have now been restored between Hurstville and Sutherland, the T four. They're going to ramp up the services in the next half an hour or so. They will be running at least every fifteen minutes. I should point out the rest of the train network is not affected by this outage, which is good because the T four is the one line that doesn't impact the rest.
Of the network until six.
This is Sydney Now with Clinton Maynard on two GB call now one three one ay.
Seven three Okay.
I've got a stack of feedback about the future of department stores and why David Jones is closing some of them. We've had confirmation the Castle Towers store will close in the middle of next year and their Tuggrat store will close the beginning of next year in January. James says, Look, have you ever tried to find a stap member of David Jones to actually assist you. They can't be found within their department stores. Cathy says, I've tried to shop
at David Jones. You can't find what you need, and if you can, you can't find any staff to help you with their high price of merchandise. Ruth makes the point Kmart. I asked the question of Joe, who's the experts, she's the shoppaholic, about why Kmart's still proving popular. There's a bit of a cult following with kmarts these days, Ruth says. Kmart at Ashfield Mall now has registers at the front of the stores, unlike a lot of kmarts
where they're in the middle. We were talking about that in the program a couple of weeks ago, where a lot of kmarts have them in the middle of the store. Clay says, I ordered the nighting board from DJ's Chatswood yesterday. Four hours later, I spent an hour looking for a car spot. I finally found a single staff member to be told the ironing board, which I'd ordered online, was not ready yet. So I'll never do DJs again. Thank you, Clay.
Just talking about shopping, I was walking through pitt Street Mall this morning. It was really cold, right, it's pretty cold at the moment anyway, walk past this line of people would have been three one hundred odd outside one particular shop. What were they doing? They were lighting up to buy one of those Labooboo things, the special collectibles that have become obviously hugely popular. There was a special
one that was being released this morning. Must say something about human philosophy that people are willing to stand out there in the eight degree temperatures in the pitt Street mall for a Labooboo. More on the Urburn shooting after the news.
Then now we've on TGB.
If you're heading home from the city to the southern suburbs, the train network is running once again. The T four is operational after all. Trains had been halted between Hearstfille and Sutherland for some time because of a power problem. Those services are now running again, but there are long delays. If you rely on a timetable, don't just go to the train station. If you're trying to get home in the T four, there will be a train. It's likely
to be crowded. The Transport for New South Wales boffins trying to get some extra services actually up and running the next half an hour, so they should be running at least fifteen minutes or so, but they will not be running the timetable effectively for the rest of the afternoon. Now the rest of the train network is running the
time at the moment one eight seven three. I'll be speaking with the acting Police Commissioner, Peter Thurtel in a few minutes time about what's occurred in Auburn this afternoon in broad daylight. Three people have been shot. Now those three victims are alive. They are in hospital, obviously in critical conditions. There's a fifty year old woman who's been shot twice. She is somebody who was working at the Kebab shop in South Parade Brothers Kebabs, apparently inside the
building when she was shot. Two mass gunmen have entered that restaurant South Parade about a quarter past one an open fire. They've fired about eight shots. A twenty six year old man's been shot in the arm and shoulder. Another man's been shot in the face, and police have confirmed one of the men has been targeted in previous shootings.
The Daily Tien Teleograph is now reporting twenty six year old Sam Azari was shot in May twenty fifth of May while he was traveling in the backseat of a ute in Granville.
Now.
Police later charged him, despite being the victim of that shooting, with possessing an unauthorized gun after a pistol was found in the vehicle. He was given bail despite police warning the court that he was at the epic center of gangland tensions in Sydney. He was given bail well. Based on what's being reported now this afternoon he was shot. Peter Thirtell has explained what transpired.
And approximately one ten pm this afternoon, two masked gunmen walked into a kebab shot in Auburn and fired eight shots. As a result, a twenty six year old male was shot in the arm and shoulder, an unknown male was shot in the face, and a fifty year old woman was shot twice in the torso. At this stage, all
of those victims have been taken to hospital. What we do know is shortly after the shootings, the two offenders attempted to get into an office in the back of the building without success, and then left in a black BMW vehicle with clone plates. What I can also tell you is that one of the victims of the shooting, a twenty six year old male we believe was the
subject of two previous attempts on his life. I can also tell you that approximately one hour before the shooting, that same mail reported to police on bail.
So Peter Thurtill is referring to this Azari who the police argued against bail when he was in court after he was shot at in may The Police Minister Yasmin Cantley has now spoken.
You're listening to Sydney now with Clinton Maynard on t GB.
An innocent victim doing her job. All she did was go to work and she has been caught up in this shocking event. Look, I have to say it's one thing for criminals to be shooting each other, but when innocent people get caught up in this, it is absolutely abhorrent and we will not tolerate it. Less than three weeks ago we set up Strikeforce Falcon. Less than three weeks ago we set up Task Force Falcon. Already, Taskforce Falcon has arrested twenty three people. That's in less than
three weeks. So my message to anyone out there going to be doing these place based shootings on our streets. The police will get you and they will lock you up for a very long time, as they should.
He has been. Catley rightly points out twenty three people have been arrested so far by a Task Force Falcon, but they haven't been arrested of murders. They've been arrested over offenses relating to these crimes, but they're yet to arrest alleged murderers. And as has now been reported by Peter Thurtill, one of these alleged victims, Azari, was actually reporting for bail today. He had been given at bail against the advice of the police. Eleven past four seventy three.
Have you needed to see a specialist doctor? Of late? Have you noticed a rise in prices? One in ten Australians are paying up to six hundred dollars a year in specialist fees, and it's a seventy five percent jump since twenty ten. Now, much of this has got to do with the fact that private health insurance often will
not cover a gap that you're required to pay. The Telegraph reporting today one point nine million Australians are delaying or skipping vital care that they're missing diagnoses, which puts increased pressure back on the public hospital network. The grat nins dute suggests we should name and shame expensive specialists and revoke their Medicare funding. Peter Breton is from the grat Nintz. Hello Peter, Hello, you're finding that special lists of ripping us.
Off, Well, some are, that's for sure. So you know, many specialists might charge a reasonable price, but as you mentioned, it's gone up by three quarters just in the last fifteen years. And there are that minority of specialists. We looked into the data and four percent of them are charging their patients on average triple what the government kicks
in through Medicare. And that would be for going to see a cardiologist or a pediatrician for a first visit three hundred and sixty dollars a first visit with a psychiatrist six hundred and seventy dollars. So there's no doubt that there are some doctors out there who are charging fees that just can't be justified.
How does that then work with private health insurance because it's often if you need to see a specialist, then you want the choice of your own specialist that you need to have private health insurance.
Well, this kind of initial consultation where you go into the rooms or the clinics that's not covered by private health insurance. Down the track, if you go in through the Ustrian a lot of treat mozillos, Well, that's right, that'll be covered. So you're right, this isn't covered. But what's the big challenges? You have those eyewatering fees which many people can't afford, but then on the public side
you're often faced with really long wait times. It can be months or even a year until you can get in. So we think that governments need to take action on both sides. They need to crack down on those really extreme fees when they're unreasonable, but they also need to boost that public capacity because we found that many of the communities with the least care, that's where you don't see the public system stepping into fill.
The gap when it comes to the specialists and what they're charging, and effectively you're alleging that they're overcharging. Is that a simple matter of supply and demand that there aren't enough specialists in those areas that are needed.
That's a big underlying reason. So for many types of specialists like psychiatrists, dermatologists, ophthalmologists. There's been an undersupply for decades now and still they're training at below the average rate for the specialists and below the rates for GPS, so we do need to fix that. Currently the government hasn't got a set of targets or numbers we need
to train, you know. And the other party is training people in rural areas is really important to make sure they stay there and continue to write care in those communities. So we said governments need to come up with those plans and say how many are needed in the city and in the country, and then they need to tie the training money that goes to public hospitals to train the specialists to hitting those target but it's currently the training front then comes without those strings attached.
Well, good on you for raising this because it's an issue that we need to address. Thank you, Peter. Thank you Peter Bretton from the Gratin Institute. But keen to hear from you on this one three one, eight, seven three. Have you needed to see a specialist of late? How much does it actually cost you what was covered by Medicare? And do you then think twice about seeking that treatment
that you really need? Let me know you can send me a text message zero four s X zero eight seven three eight seven three.
You're listening to Sydney Now with Clinton Maynard on two GB com now one three one eight seven three.
Okay, let's get the latest on this unfolding situation at Auburn where three people, two men and a woman have been shot. The Acting Commissioner, Peter third Hill joins us, thank you for your time, Acting Commissioner.
Good afternoon, Clinton.
This is obviously so disturbing because it has occurred in Daylight South Parade, Auburn. Just firstly, the three victims. What's their condition at the moment.
We do know that a twenty six year old male has been shot in the arm and shoulder, Another unidentified male has been shot in the face, and a fifty year old employee, female employee of the shop in which the shooting has occurred, was shot twice in the torso all three are in hospital. I do know that the police have spoken to the female, but at this stage unaware if they've spoken to the two men.
The police talking to her is hopefully a positive sign. Peter, just explain to me what happened once your office has got the call.
So about one ten pm this afternoon, two mass gunmen walked into a kebab shop in Auburn and moved to the back of the shop. What I'm told is that eight shots were fired in the rear of the shop, hitting the three victims. Following the shootings, they did try and get into an office in the shop as well, unsuccessfully, and then left in a black oudy vehicle that was bearing Clone plates. Obviously, police deployed straight away, including investigators
from Task Force Falcon. We've got lots of police on the ground there, including our forensic police and our investigators. As you started off by saying, this is a shocking broad daylight attack and it's unacceptable in a city like Sydney, we won't accept this. There were innocent people in and around the facility while people are brandishing firearms and these gang related shootings have got to stop, and we're doing everything we can to make sure that happens.
And what's most unaccepted, I think it'd agrees the fact that it's now been identified by yourself and the Police Minister that the fifty year old woman is not believed to be a target of this. She is believed to be an innocent person.
My information is that she's an employee in the shop. So yes, you're right, we don't believe that she was an intended target. But as I started off many of the other interviews I've done today by saying, this is early days of what will end up being a major criminal investigation.
The twenty six year old man who you mentioned in your press conference had reported to bail today. What can you tell us about him?
So that twenty six year old male is obviously clearly known to police. He did report to bail about an hour beforehand to all the police station. He's had two previous attempts on his life, and we spoke to him as recently as Friday. So the fact that he was out and about is disturbing in itself. But obviously people know where he is and they've found him on two previous occasions, and on this occasion they've managed to shoot him twice. And as I said, he's now in hospital, as.
Has been reported in the Telegraph this afternoon. When he appeared in court after the shooting in May, the prosecutors they argued against bail because, to quote them, he was at the EPI center of gangland tensions in Sydney. How can we allow somebody like that to be out.
Well, we're dealing with them when they are out, and obviously, now this is a matter for us to investigate the actual shooting and try and apprehend those responsible. You must be tearing a hair which we spend way beyond the two shooters. Obviously, the Tannagles go right into organized crime.
You must be tearing your hair out that you identify who is at the center of this gang land war. They appear before the courts, you charge them, and then they get let out.
Yeah.
Well, all I can say is it's our job to enforce the law and that's the matter for the bail is a matter for the court. As you said, we argued strongly that bail wasn't appropriate, but the court's granted bail on this occasion.
There are some reports in one of the papers there is a fourth person who's been taken to hospital in a stable conditioner. You're able to confirm that.
What I can say is that I'm told several doors up a lady, a pregnant lady, went into labor.
As far as I'm.
Aware, there's no connection between the shooting and the lady going into labor unless the shock of the whole incident played some role, but I don't know that that's a fact at all.
But you know what this does demonstrate that you've got Ashfield, it's such a busy area, it's in a place like this, You've got so many people who are in the streets, and you've had an innocent person who's been shot inside the kebab shop. This just demonstrates the danger of this gang will being played out in broad daylight.
That's exactly right. And these offenders, these organized crime networks, whilst they target themselves and they'll target rivals, they don't really care that other people are in fear when they brandish firearms in the area or in the public places. They don't really care about the law. And it's our job to make sure that.
We lock them up. Okay, now you've got officers on the ground now looking for these offenders and that's audi that they escaped in Thank you for your time, Acting Commissioner, Thanks Clinton. Acting Police commission Peter Thirtel. Now you understand he is limited in what he can say legally about the issues before the court. But one of the people who has been shot here and this has now been
confirmed by the police. Was before court in May because he was shot at on the twenty fifth of May, and police supposed bail because he was then charged with having a fire rum. Please opposed bail because they said he was the epicenter of this whole gangland war. And the courts let him out. And now you see what happens.
One of the gangs who's after him goes after him in the middle of Auburn South Parade, middle of the day in the kebab shop and you've got somebody working behind the counter there, this fifty year old lady who's shot in the stomach as a result. That's why the magistrates and the judges and Chris Mins needs to do something about the way they enforce these laws. People like that should not be given bail. Twenty two past four, Twogb's Winter Wheel coming up. Still in the program. I'm
going to give you the chance to win big. Now. I've got a feeling we're going to hit the jackpot today. There's some fabulous prizes on the wheel. I just had a practice spin during the break there and I spun fifteen hundred, so I'm pretty good at spinning it. Now. There is a prize of two and a half thousand dollars on the wheel today. Some great prizes as well. I've got a good feeling when you played the two GB Winter Wheel a little later in the program. Given
IM pretty good. It's spinning the wheel. You've got a big chance to win, up really big here. Keep listening, don't call yet, keep listening in the program for your chance to win.
You're listening to Sydney Now with Clinton Maynard on two GB com now one three to one peat seven three.
We've just had confirmation from the Assistant Commissioner Police Commission Peter Thurtel that a fourth person is now in hospital following the shooting at Auburn, but it's not believed this person is linked to the shooting. It was somebody who was in a shop a couple of shops away from the kebab shop where three people have been shot, who was heavily pregnant and then went to the labor But as you well know, when you are in the late stages of pregnancy, something can shock you and can can
trigger labor. Eight shots were fired inside the kebab shop where two men and an innocent woman have been shot. It might well, be that the fright of hearing those shots. Those shots have put this woman in triggered labor. She's now in hospital and hopefully she's going to be okay. One three, one eight seven three is our number. We're talking about gap coverage with specialists when you need treatment, and whether your private health insurance covers the surgery that
you need, whether Medicare covers what you need in hospital. Debra, what's your experience being Deborah?
Oh, Crenton, don't stop me. This is the most frustrating thing. I believe you damned if you do, and you damned if you don't. When you're young, as you would understand with young children, it is necessary to have private health insurance because not only surgery, but you know there's dental glasses, et cetera, et cetera. And when you're older, it is
surgery like keap replacements or knees or whatever. We and I'm sure everybody's the same child or we did reduce our premium by increasing our access when my husband had a backup a couple of years ago. So the benefit you receive or the surgeon received, is what the government deems to be the amount for that surgery. So let's
just talk about a hip replacement, for instance. So that's two thousand dollars, say that's what they're okay, but your surgeon charges seven thousand dollars, so you're going to be out of pocket about five thousand. Are you have a choice to whom you wish to do it or you will understand that however, whatever, nobody there are very few surgeons that charge the specified or allocated amount by the government.
Absolutely, and that's a big problem, Debora. And then if you do choose to completely go in the public system, you have to wait. Figures were released last week from the Bureau of Health Information that shows the number of people waiting longer than the recommended time has gone through the roof just in the last couple of months. I'm sorry to here you've been through that experience, Debra. Maureen says,
I'd like to actually have spinal surgery. I really need spinal surgery, but eleven thousand dos a pocket with a good surgeon. Dees, what's your experience been, Dez.
I just love your show. In two thy and fourteen, I received bowel cancer and I had the bowl cancer treated and fixed. Then after in two thousand and eight in a lump turned up on my left lung and they said I had to have a biopsy, which I had in Barrel, and then they found out that I had a bit of cancer in the left lung. I went to Saint George Private, which I am in a private health cover and the operation and the chemo cost me eighteen thousand dollars.
Unbelievable. But you know you're going to be paying anything you can to save your life in that situation. But it shouldn't come down to that. I'm sorry you've been through that situation. Dez one three, eight seventy three. We can take some more calls in this a little later as well. Coming up straight shoot at Craig Laundy. How long do you think Craig can hold a plank for? In fact, do you know what holding a plank is? I'll explain that.
The latest cake for what good afternoon. Clinton Police say a twenty six year old man targeted in a kebab shop shooting has already had two attempts made on his life. A worker is among those injured at Auburn, the woman shot twice in the torso. Another three people have been charged accused of selling fake cocaine to criminal gangs across the city to men already before the courts. The Israeli Air Force has attacked the Iranian command center as fighting
escalates in the Middle East. Six hundred and fifty Australians of contact to the government seeking help to leave the region, and the Corporate Watchdog has launched an inquiry into the ASX over what it claims are repeated and serious failures. ASIK says it's investigating the Australian Security Exchange's risk management, capability and governance. In Sport Lando, Norris has taken full responsibility for a collision with McLaren teammate Oscar Piastre in
the Canadian Formula one Grand Prix. Norris crashed out while Piastre finished fourth. George Russell took the checkered flag. Clinton More News at five k.
Kat fourteen degrees in the coast. It's sixteen degrees in Penrith at the moment. We've been talking on the program about the future of department stores. We've had confirmation today that David Jones will close their Castle Towers stores mid next year. In fact, their tug restore on the Central Coast is going to close at the beginning of next year. In January, Gary says, I don't go to David Jones or Meyer as I can't get any service. Even if you turn up to the counter, they don't serve you
because they're staff are in different department. This one also about Castle Hill, the Castle Towers, David Jones. This says, Look, it's not just because of online shopping. Unreasonable rent has a lot to do with it and lease expectations from the company that manages the building at Castle Towers. Look, it's very difficult when a company like David Jones has to compete with the online retailer and they do have
issues with high rents. Now, just talking about shopping. So I was walking through Pitt Street More this morning was really cold.
I had the big wooly jacket on.
Anyway, I noticed there was about, no exaggeration, three hundred people lined up outside a shop and the store was Pop Mart. Now, I've never been into a pop Mart's store, but I went and had a look. So what pop marts sell? Are these things called la boo boos? Now, I've had people ask us off theair, what's a laboo boo? Well,
apparently this is the latest craze sweeping the world. A La Boo Boo is a stuffed toy very popular in parts of Asia, particularly China, and I think that the really popular ones are just on key chains and people collect them on key chains, and you can pay an enormous amount of money for the very popular ones. So what was happening today in the Pittstree More Maybe you're wondering.
There was a special edition collectible Labooboo being released and despite the fact was freezing cold, you had hundreds of people actually lining up so they could buy themselves a La Boo Boo. At the same time, a Chinese bank, PingER Bank they're based in Sheshuan in China, has been told by the regulators in Beijing they must stop enticing new customers by offering them free La Boo boos. They've
been running a promotion the Wooden Award. New customers who deposit leave seven thousand dollars and keep it in their account for three months with a La Boo boo. So bad luck to those Chinese bank customers. Maybe they jumped on a jet and were lined up outside the PopMart store in Pittstreet, Sydney. You can tell me what the fascination with le boo boos is. I don't get it, but they probably not meant to appear to a forty nine year old Blake one three one eight seven three.
We are also talking about issues with health insurance and increasing gaps. Brendan's Indoreland.
Hello Brendan, Hi, Cleenslin, thank you for addressing this issue. My son, he's sixteen. He's been told he needs to have jaw surgery to fix his fighter. The surgery total cost is twenty thousand dollars. Out of that, between the health insurance and Medicare pays a total of two thousand dollars, So we have eighteen thousand eight BAP plus the anethesis plus the hospital out of pocket as well.
And if he doesn't have that surgery, what's the likelihood of him suffering issues down the track.
Well, there is a real issue there with the saying that there's further health complications because of the way his mouth has developed in the bite process, that he will always have drawer issues his teeth or lot because they're not aligning properly. But what's even worse, my son has now turned around to him said, Dad, don't bother doing that. I'm not worth it.
That's heartbreaking, Brandan, and probably is a a dad. You'll do whatever it takes to help your son.
Of course, we'll make sure he gets the surgery. And then we were told by the surgeons that to expect between four to five years if we do a public yeah, which expect that it won't be done by the actual surgeon. It will be done by a registrar instead.
Yep.
And you've got to wait that four to five years, and goodness knows what happens in the meantime. I feel for you, Brendan. My son this afternoon, fourteen year old Nicholas is at the orthodontist. He's probably been in the last hour. He's having braces put on today. Now he's the third of my children to have braces. And as you know, and this does go back to when we were kids as well. It is a small fortune. And we've got private health insurance and fortunate enough to have
private health insurance. I'd say the private health insurance over the years has probably only covered about twenty five percent, but we've just copped it. My kids. They need the braces because my son has the overlight problem like Brendan's son does. And as a dad, you do whatever takes for your kids, even it means going into debt on the credit card or through your mortgage or whatever. But there's got to be a there's got to be an easier way through all this. Billy's anilla one. Hello, Billy,
what's your experience? Boon mate?
Look on seventy About twelve years ago, I had a sixth centematter brain firmer pop up in my head and I'm in private and all that. Anyhow, I didn't have had aches. I don't get them now. I'm fortunate that way. It was seven and a half hour operation at Saint George, and me and the bride sort of went well, we've been fifty years together now, and we went in there and I said, oh, well, see what we're going to be up for, and the secretary turned around. I can't
mention his name, can I shows too? He's a neurosurgeon. And anyhow, she said, doctor's happy with what the government gives him. What you're up for is five hundred dollars for the nursiss and me and the bride worked that wore damn. We're just gob smacked like We're in a fortunate situation where whatever it was, we're okay with us. But it was five hundred dollars. It was twelve.
Years ago, and reality is things have got a lot worse since then.
Billy.
I'm glad to see that was twelve years ago because it means you know, you're doing really well. But I know this has been a debate that's been going on for years. There's just got to be a better way around it. It's eighteen to five. Congratulations to Ash Barty, the Aussie tennis legend. She's announced the birth of her second child today. She has posted on social media a photo of her daughter, Jordan Welcome to the world. Jordan Barty has posted, you were loved unconditionally. We are so
grateful to have you in our arms. Gorgeous girl. She is the little sister of Hayden, who was born in July of twenty twenty three. Now, Roger didn't get the memo. Roger says Shane Dowan Gisberg and is not an AUSSI. He's a KeyWe He's won in Nascart earlier this morning. We'll talk to MG about that. No, you missed the memo, Roger, Any key we who wins is actually an Aussie.
On Sydney Now you can't handle the truth.
The streets too, our straight shooter on a Monday afternoons, Craig Laundy of course from the Laundy Hotel's Empire and former Federal MP Gooday.
Craig how I Caughton, how are you mate?
She so much to keep up with the moment, with what's unfolding in the Middle East and overseas, and of course when things develop, will bring those to you. This afternoon between the Israelis and the Iranians. Now, I was intrigued to hear one of your former liberal colleagues, Andrew Bragg on the Today Show this morning, with his perspective on this, and I want you, I want you to have a listen to this. This is Andrew Bragg.
Today, Aaran wants a nuclear weapon to wife Israel off the map.
If we were in Israel's shoes, we.
Would not tolerate a country nearby us getting a nuclear weapon. And so I think Israel is trying to stop that from happening. That's a good thing for humanity because these guys are the worst regime anywhere on the planet. These are seriously bad people and they should never be given opportunity to have a nuclear weapon.
Andrew Bragg says the Israelis are doing the rest of us the world of favor by taking his action. What's your view.
I think he's stating the position that would be held by most mainstream Australians. This is a terror state that in the last eighteen months has had its proxies. It's always stood in the shadows and Backez bala Hamas the youths, the Syrian regime, all of those regimes. Israel in the last eighteen months has completely dismantled and has taken the
opportunity to not stop there, it would appear. And the part off on most interesting Clinton is that whilst they clearly need to go in and make sure that there's no nuclear capability, especially considering that you know it's widely considered that it is imminent, but they haven't just done that. They've gone in there and they've decimated the leadership of
the Republican Guard and their nuclear department. At the same time, I wouldn't mind betting that in their minds, Regene change, given that this is an oppressive Islamic Republic where it is. Change in the actual leadership of the country could be an ulterior motive that they're not speaking about public life.
I read an article last night. It was published on the Cydney Morning Hera website, but it was syndicated from New York. It was either Bloomberg's or maybe New York Times, and it featured quotes from Iranian people in Tyrne, the capitol, and these particular people were saying, now, while we don't like Israel, we actually think what's happening at the moment can be a good thing as long as we're safe.
Because these particular people in government, where it's that the heads of the Revolutionary Garda or others are damaging to us. These Irayan people, yes, and don't forget too.
It's not widely publicized because they control the media so strongly. But in September last year, after they lost their president in a helicopter crash, for the first time ever, a modernist, a popularist president was elected against a hard liner that had the backing of the regime. So in the undercurrent, you can't talk publicly over there, obviously because they're completely oppressed. But you know, and I'm sure this is in the
back of the Israeli's mind. Now the question becomes, you know, when you get ragine change in the Middle East, historically you get great uncertainty. You only have to look to Syria in the last twelve months to see that. And you know there are plenty of examples. But I wouldn't mind betting and Andrew Braggs sort of half went there this morning. I wouldn't mind betting that Israel may have this in the back of their mind.
Absolutely wanted to talk to you about what you're experiencing in the laundie hotels at the moment. Now that we're in the winter and it was freezing this morning, how does the transition in a business, a hospitality business like a pub, how does the transition in trade go from autumn to suddenly being quite cold with the start of winter.
And Quinton, it's so funny because you can basically set your watch by the frequency. And this year is probably even worse because we had if you cast your mind back to May, we had a very mild May. Absolutely, but it's dropped off a cliff in June. Now what we see the same time every year we panic in business because we think, oh my God, everyone, you know,
where's everyone gone? But when you look back at the corresponding period last year, the year before the year before that, it takes a few weeks to get used to the cold. And basically I think it takes people a few weeks to get used to rugging up and getting back outside.
So do you reckon? So do you see people don't come out to the pub as much because they don't want to leave the house. In the first few weeks of winter, yes.
Our trade definitely dips by around fifteen to twenty percent, and then it picks back up again towards the end of June. It's a two to three week period and it normally corresponds with the first two to three weeks in June. But once people get over the shock of having to layer up and throw a jacket on, we see the trade come back.
It's interesting to throw that after our listeners one, three, one, eight, seven three. First few weeks of winter, do you spend more time at home because you don't want to get outside because it's cold? And then eventually you get.
Used to it.
I mean, interestingly, I went to my local which is known by your company, Craigar last weekend for the long weekend on the Sunday night, and we just went to the Best with my wife and one of my kids for a meal and I didn't book and I said to Cas, We're not going to need the book on a Sunday night, please, There's plenty of room in that bistro. We got there, we had to beg for a table. It was actually choppers on the Sunday night.
Wow, Well, that's that's I would argue that that's specific to that site because I can tell you that I talked to a lot of colleagues at the moment or we've founder definitely dipped it all start to pick back up again, as I say in the next in the coming couple of weeks, but it does historically that that seems to be the trend.
Now, there was a story today in the Telegraph, and they've been featuring all the health stories in the paper in the last couple of weeks, and this was on planking. Now I don't mean planking, which was a bit of one of those stunts that people were doing on balconies of high Rose hotels at one point. Planking or holding a plank is something you can do for your fitness, to boost your metabolism, improve your posture, Can you plank?
Clinton?
I read that story and got the heads up that you were going to me about it, so I went to the trouble of getting my wife sus to get the camera out. Yes, and I read in the article on fifty four, so I should be somewhere between the thirty to sixty second mark, and your producer in has videograph videographic proof. Okay, that I got to sixty seconds and then let it go. I could have gone a little longer, but according to the Telegraph, I'm right in the sweet spot for my agent.
Well, well, let's see that. Let's hear that. This is Craig Lorndi, former MP planking.
Okay, fifty four year old plank ten seconds who you started to get a bit.
Shakyably twenty seconds, thirty seconds up?
Up she is shaking nearly a minute. Keep going? Why because that's all I been today?
Oh?
Okay, a minute, yep, that's good.
One I six.
Well, I'm in the target demographic.
It's just thirty to sixty, So just describe what you're doing there. For those that haven't performed a plank, it's look, it's like you're going to do a push up, but you just hold yourself.
Yeah, you're on your elbows with obviously your forearms flat to the ground. You start on your knees and then you've got your paunches your feet. You lift up and basically you're using your abdomen abdomen to keep perpendicular or past sorry, parallel to the ground and you're basically your core has got to hold you up for that time and it is not.
Bloody Well, I'm just in my forty so I should be able to do it for a minute.
Apparently, there you go.
We'll have it, put a video and.
Yeah maybe tonight, Craig, we chat next week.
Good on your thanks Quint and cheers mate.
Craig Lawndy.
This this Sydney Now Whip Clintlin ont GB well as the sun goes down across Sydney at the moment, police are looking for two gunmen.
Two gunmen responsible for terror in broad daylight in Auburn this afternoon. Three people have been shot. Another person's also in hospital. One of the people's shop at the Brothers Kebab Shop, the m Brother's Kebab Shop, South Parade, Auburn is completely innocent. Another man has been targeted in two previous shootings. This is clearly related to Sydney's gang war
that's unfolding on our streets and is claiming innocent victims. Now, the condition of these three people in the hospital is critical. I spoke with the acting Police Commissioner, Peter Thirtill a little earlier in the program. He explains what happened.
So about one ten pm this afternoon, two mass gunmen walked into a kebab shop in Auburn and moved to the back of the shop. What I'm told is that eight shots were fired in the rear of the shop, hitting the three victims. Following the shootings, they did try and get into an office in the shop as well, unsuccessfully, and then left in a black Audi vehicle that was bearing clone plate.
Now, this is what is truly horrifying. As we've been reporting throughout the program. One of the victims is truly innocent, a lady who was working at that kebab store.
My information is that she's an employee in the shop, so yes, you're right, we don't believe that she was an intended target. But as I started off, many of the other interviews I've done today by saying this is early days of what will end up being a major criminal investigation.
And the acting Commission to confirm to us a fourth person has been taken to hospital.
What I can say is that I'm told several doors up a lady, a pregnant lady, went into labor. As far as I'm aware, there's no connection between the shooting and the lady going into labor, unless the shock of the whole incident played some role, but I don't know that that's a.
Fact at all.
Let's cross straight out to Auburn. Josh Bryant is on the scene at the moment. Josh, what can you tell us what's happening there now?
Good afternoon, Pinton. Yes, obviously we're right next to the train station here in Auburn. The police tape right on the South Parade exit. So many people arriving home from work learning what's happening from either other bystanders or the police when they try to walk up this crime scene
still in place now. The larger crowd that had formed when I first arrived here a few hours ago has largely dispersed, but obviously many people expressing their shock when they realized, oh, you know, maybe some frustration when they realize they can't walk up the street, but then it's obvious shock and sadness when they learn that the reason they can't is because three people were shot here in
the middle of the day. So police still on the scene and people, as I say, being met with sort of confusion and then surprise or shot when they find
out what has happened here. Being told obviously it will be some time and police can't give a timeline for when these crime scene investigations will be completed because as we know, they'll be doing whatever they can to track down those responsible, so they'll be taking every precaution and getting every bit of evidence that they can from this scene.
And the police are confirmed to us that after the shots were fired, eight shots rung out inside the kebab shot. The two mass men have tried to ram themselves getting themselves into an office, so clearly they were after something at that kebab shop. Josh on the scene there and they're obviously still police. There is there any indication about what's taking place with the hunt for these two.
Gunmen, No, there's no signs. We haven't seen patrol cars moving or As far as we're aware, we haven't had any indication of movement to suggest that there is a movement of the officers that are here as part of that investigation. Those officers that are here obviously sitting about making sure that the public knows what's going on and
that this crime scene has kept contained. As you say, that's not to say that they aren't carrying out other investigations elsewhere as part of Task Force Falcon and this specific investigation.
Josh will come back to you before the end of the program if there are any developments. Thank you, Thanks Clinton. Josh Bryan our report on the scene. He's in Auburn South Parade near the m Brothers kabab shop where the shooting has taken place now. As the acting Police commission Peter Thurtell confirmed to me a little earlier, one of the victims is a twenty six year old man who has been shot in the arm and the shoulder. This twenty six year old man is being named across the
press now as Sam Azari. The Deputy Police Commissioner confirmed to me that he has been the subject of two attempted shootings where he's the victim previously. Now in one of those cases. He himself was charged because police then searched a car that he was in and they found an unauthorized gun. So he then faced paramounta local court and the police prosecutors opposed bail on this bloke. They opposed bail because they warned the court that he was
the quote EPI center of gangland tensions in Sydney. However, the magistrate on the day this is on the twenty sixth of May, decided to set him free. So despite the fact the police have outline that this bloke has been targeted twice and is accused of holding a weapon, he was allowed to go free. And so what's transpired today? In broad daylight one fifteen in the afternoon, busy South Parade.
You've got people going about their everyday business are as a fruit shop nearby, there's a tobacconist, there are other general stores in this strip. You've got a lady working behind the counter making kebabs, and these two mass government burst in clearly looking for somebody. Well, that somebody is likely to be Azari, who was on bail and only reported for bail a couple of days ago to the police that Azari is a man police said should be refused bail because he's at the center of a tit
for tat gangland war. And now as a result, we have seen an innocent person, the lady who is working at the kebab shop, shot in the stomach. She's now in hospital and our prayers with her.
If it matters to you, then you'll hear it here Sydney Now with Clinton Maynard.
Until said thirteen past five. Earlier in the program, I told you about a video that was sent to me of teenagers committing just such dangerous highjinks on the Round network. It makes you wonder how long it's going to be until somebody is killed performing these crazy stunts that are
being uploaded on the social media. I touched on this on Friday and in relation to a thirty three year old man who'd been arrested by police involved in several chases allegedly on a motorbike where speeds of two hundred and ninety nine kilometers now had been reached, and this man's accused of filming these chases posting it up on
social media. But I touched on the issue that the police have made a point of pointing out in the last couple of years that there's been a big increase in the number of teenagers using social media in the same way. So not involved in police chases, but involved in crazy stunts on the train network. Well, this video that was sent to me shows that doesn't show the teenage as they're filming the video, but they break into
a driver's compartment and a train. Now it's the compartment that's not used, so it's at the back of the train, and then they use a fire extinguisher that they've ripped off the wall to then spray out that a retardant from the fire Extra English shop and you can then see the spray. We'll have this up on our social media as well. You can then see the spray shooting down the side of the train. Looks like this huge
cloud of smoke. And then eventually they drop the fire extinguisher, big heavy metal fire extinguished or have dropped on the rails. So why do they do it. They do it to attract likes on social media and it is terrifyingly dangerous and something needs to change here. Josh Murray is the Transport Secretary in New South Wales.
Good I Josh high Twinton.
You've seen footage, the same footage that I've seen the day in similar footage. What do you make of it?
Well, thanks to GB, I've seen that footage today. I've seen multiple other clips and reels that have been sent to me and that are collected on our CCTV network. I mean, it's just sickening when you think of the network and the people using that every day to get
to home, to school, to hospital appointments. You think of the staff that are across our network that are their first priority is a safe and efficient train network every day, and then you think of these people themselves about the horror that this could bring to friends and family members resulting in death or dismemberment from a life threatening criminal act.
I mean, it is sickening and it's something that concerns all of us at Transport and particularly our Sydney Trains and New south West Train week teams.
I've had people message me today and they did on the last Friday when I raised this in the first place, saying, oh, this has been going on for years, this was happening when with kids. How do you respond to that?
Look, you know, the rail network across Sydney in particular is what we call an open network eight hundred and thirteen kilometers covered right now. Today we run three and a half thousand services a day. It's obviously not possible to have a police officer marching up and down every one of those trains, and nor would the community want
or expect that. Unfortunately, the prevalence of social media uploads and likes and the quality of vision that you get from your mobile phone in your pocket means that people are doing these stunts to fill content, and I do think it's getting worse, and it's spreading to other transport modes as well.
And Sir, later either the perpetrator or somebody innocent is going to be seriously injured or will die. Josh in the video that you've seen today, and you can sit on our website to gb dot com. Those filming somehow manage to get into one of the driver's compartments.
How does that happen?
Look, I want to reassure your listeners that we are onto this. Unfortunately, our older train fleet is obviously quite vulnerable to break in, and often this happens on the silver set cars that people say around the v sets and the trains that we are now phasing out of operations. So that's the V sets and the case sets, and they are over the next twelve months or so being
phased out of operation. You'll also be aware we're spending four hundred and forty million dollars on the Tangara to upgrade a number of its operating modes through the train computer, but also to refurbish the cabins in a way that will help with security. We're also looking at some engineering methods which I want to go into the detail of, but will help us secure some of those trains against
break in. The reality is some of those trains are thirty years old, they are prone to break in, and we spend a lot of taxpayers money reinforcing windows and doors. But if people are trying to get in, as I say eight hundred and thirteen kilometers, there are points where they will go to to try and get on. Now, we do have thirteen thousand, thirty and a half thousand CCTV cameras, and I can tell you that that incident.
That you refer to in the video with the fire extinguisher was picked up immediately by the guard on board.
The CCTV was captured and it has been handed.
Over to the police.
Good Thank you Josh, Thanks Clinton, Josh, Mary t Ansport Secretary in New South Wales. So you can see that video on our website two GB dot com. And this is the crazy thing about it. Some of the videos I've seen today clearly show those responsible. So they've also got no brains. Twenty two past five, tomorrow a one day hearing will be held into changes to workers' compensation.
These are the changes that the labor government is trying to implement that the unions are dead against, that the Coalition and the Greens teamed up to oppose in the Upper House. They demanded an inquiry. Well, that inquiry will take place tomorrow and a range of people give evidence. So a stack of people have been called to give evidence, including the Treasure of Daniel Mooki, but also some interest
groups and those from the insurance industry themselves. Bottom line here is, yes, we can't allow workers who are injured on the job to be just put on the scrap heap. They need to be looked after. But we also need a system that's solvent and at the moment the IICRE system is going broke, something's got to change.
Two gvs. The Winter Wheel.
We are turning up the heat with forty thousand dollars worth of cash and prizes to be won in two GB's Winter Wheel. We are spinning the wheel in breakfast mornings, afternoons and right here on Sydney now every day this week. Now, this is your cuter. Call be the fifth caller right now on the prize line. Now the prize line is one three hundred seven double two eight seven to three. The fifth caller will make it through on air, and I'm going to spin this wheel that I have next
to me. If you have a look on the webcam, you'll see the wheel in all its glory. It's fabulous. Now, Michael McLaren has suggested that I'm not going to be very good at spinning it. Well, I've been practicing and I reckon we're a big chance of winning the two and a half thousand dollars here. Jesus a lot of money here on this wheel. We've got a lot of money to give away. It's some good prizes as well. So jump on the competition line right now, one three
hundred seven double two eight seven to three. The fifth caller will play two GB's Winter Wheel.
You'll want to know what's happening in Sydney. Stay tuned to Sydney out with later.
On to gumb You might not be too happy about this confirmation today that Anthony Albersi is getting a pay rise as all federal politicians are on the first July, so a couple of weeks away, his salary will increase by just under fifteen thousand dollars as go from six hundred and seven thousand dollars to six hundred and twenty two thousand dollars. But here's the twist. Anthony Alberzi will
now be paid more than Donald Trump. Donald Trump, despite being a what's a billionaire, is paid four hundred thousand dollars US. That is six hundred and seventeen thousand dollars, but albo is going to be on six hundred and twenty two. So mister Albani is going to be paid more than mister Trump. I think mister Trump's still doing okay, mind you. Now you compare that to other prime ministers. So today Alba has held a meeting with Mark Karney,
who's the Canadian Prime minister. Mark Kearney will make four hundred and seventy seven thousand dollars this year, the New Zealand Prime Minister, Christopher Luxe will make four hundred and seventy four thousand dollars per year, the UK PM three hundred and sixty five thousand, even though the cost of living in London is probably higher than in Sydney. Lawrence Wong, who is the Singapore Prime Minister, he's doing very well now.
He's on two and a half meal. Apparently he's just about the highest paid government leader in the world other than the dictators who just take the money from the cash red stuff. But Albo as of July one, six hundred and twenty two thousand dollars compared to Donald Trump's six hundred and seventeen.
Two.
Gv's Winter Wheel.
Forty thousand dollars to give away over the next few weeks. And I've got a stack here on the winter Wheel that I'm just about to spin. Hello, Janello, you are going to play for a Monday afternoon. Alrighty all, you can't lose. You actually can't lose in this competition because everything is wonderful. Will we will love whatever you win? Now I'm warming up a kay. I'm going to give a really big tug. Here we go one, two, three, Here we go, spinning, spinning, spinning. It's just gone past
the two and a half thousand dollars. Just move past the DD's group. Now it's three hundred. How you're feeling still spinning?
Fantastic.
It's Monday night.
Here we go.
It's slowing down and slowing down. Just past the fifteen, just past dds, just past one thousand, five hundred dollars.
Is yours?
Congratulations Jane, Thank you, TODB.
What are you going to do with the cash?
Well, my two hour has just had eye surgery which was very expensive, so I'm going to put it towards that, So thank.
You so much.
Fabulous Jane. That is wonderful. Congratulations Jane. We will be spinning the Winter Wheel tomorrow morning with Ben in Breakfast and we'll do it all again through Mark Leavy's program, Michael McLaren and back with Sydney Now this afternoon tomorrow afternoon even let's check news headlines and with all the late it's Katie Paula.
Good afternoon. Clinton. The police minister says it's abhorrent when innocent people are caught up in violence after a daylight shooting in Sydney's Southwest. A kebab shop worker is one of three people injured when two masked men open fire at a restaurant in Auburn. The Federal government is being urged to name and shame specialists who overcharge patients in a bid to bring down fees. The Gratton Institutors found some Australians are paying more than six hundred dollars for
a specialist appointment. Closing submissions being heard in the Mushroom murder trial. The prosecution has alleged there are four calculated deceptions at the heart of the case, including accusations Aaron Patterson lied about having cancer and tennis legend Ashbarty and her husband are celebrating the arrival of their second child, Barty announcing the birth of her daughter Jordan on Instagram. In Sport, the Sydney Roosters have agreed to release winger
Dom Young with immediate effect. The English Flyers joined his old club The Nights, just two days after he played against them in Newcastle. Clinton Mornings at six.
Seek Kat twelve degrees in the city, ten degrees in the Western Suburbs.
Finance update with all.
The latest Dead Night Money news. Tonight at seven o'clock.
Hello dead, Hello Clinton.
You were very excited spinning that.
Well.
I love that you've done a practice run as well.
How hyped were you? See?
Michael? Michael suggested that I wouldn't be very good at spinning the wid why. He suggested that I had very weak arms, and he ignored the fact that I spent many, many an hour in the gym. Chocolate are you you could be?
You've got weekling to spin that.
You've got to give it a good tu You don' want to do it careful.
You don't want to do it with too much gusto though, because you'd be here for the five minutes. The amount of times it'll spin around.
It's a wonderful wheels great. There's two and a half thousand dollars on there. I mean, I'd love to there's a one win it.
Don't you worry about that?
Of course they will. The share mark a little flat today, but some games in the sector.
Yeah.
The Middle East tensions sent oil and goal prices much higher over the weekend, so the market did climb on the open, but then there were falls across the day, so we ended up back where we started. On the ASEX two hundred it was just up a single point to eight thousand, five hundred and forty eight. Energy, though, was the best performing sector obviously, it was up five point two percent, and the dollar a bit more positive over the weekend too. It's back up above sixty five YEUS cents.
The Prime Minister is in Calgary ahead of the G seven talks with Donald Trump, but the Assistant Minister, Andrew Lee, has been charged with boosting productivity. You're going to speak with him.
Yeah, He's the first productivity minister that we've had in this country and it is top of the to do list from this government. They know that they need to boost productivity. It's a problem that's not isolated to Australia. It's a problem that many wealthy countries around the world are grappling with. But we're at sixty year lows and until we get productivity on track, we're not going to see the economy growing the way it should.
I mentioned this to Michael McLaren a little earlier. There is a concert that I hadn't heard of before, call presenteism and present teaism is becoming apparently a real issue in the workforce at the moment. It's it's similar to absenteeism, but you decide instead of chucking the siki, you actually go to work, but don't do anything when you.
Were off quite quitting, which is another you just don't we love labels, don't we?
Yeah, presentee But again that's all about, you know, poor productivity if you don't have staff motivated and do a good job.
Well, But it's more than that. It's about actually ensuring because there's a lot of occupations and many people you know, in their cars listening or listening would know I can't work any harder. I work damn hard. So it's about being smarter with the way that we actually use the workforce. And AI is going to be a big part of that. But it's a big task that he's got. And we'll be speaking to Andrew Lee on the show tonight.
And a cosmetic giant has passed away today.
Yeah, the Esta Louder Lorder Company Estlauder, which was the company was inherited by Leonard Lauder from his parents, built it up, but he's been running it, or had been for the past forty years. He died over the weekend in New York at the age of ninety two, and he really took the brand from strength to strength the cosmetics giant. He broadened the labels under the Estae Luta umbrella. And he was also the person who came up with a theory that lipstick sales can soar when times are
tough because women will embrace whatever luxuries they can. So it helped the company to grow, and when he took it public back in nineteen ninety five, the share price shot up a third, so he inherited. He was a nepo baby in the classic sense, but he absolutely grew the company.
It just reminds me when we were going through COVID and as a reporter. Now being a bloke, maybe he can quite appreciate this aspect of the economy. The biggest issue that women wanted reopened were nail salons during COVID during the shutdowns.
Yeah, hair salons with a thing, Yeah, but I think was probably something I was saying, please. And when we were told we were limited to thirty minute haircuts and colors, the women of the country were screaming, what are they thinking? Do they know how long it takes to color your hair?
Deb will be hosting Money News tonight from seven.
Thank you.
You can watch our listen to dev tonight with Money.
News on Sydney.
Now a weather update will be here to help in unexpected weather.
NRIM insurance a health company.
Twelve degrees and the coast at the moment ten degrees in the western southerns It should have made mostly drive this evening Tomorrow. The forecast is for a sunny day, maybe some frost in the west in the morning and top of eighteen degrees. Wednesday sunny and sixteen Thursday mostly sunny, and seventeen Friday sunny in eighteen and the Weather Bureau has provided us with a long term forecast at this stage on the weekend Sunday, on Saturday, mostly Sunday on Sunday.
We've been talking throughout the program about the increasing gap fees that many of us are paying even if we have private health insurance. And the gap has been a big part of the health system for decades, but it is getting bigger and why because specialists are charging more and the government isn't recovering as much as the cost now. Mark says the AMA has so much control over the health industry and the government can't regulate it all falling behind.
Paul says, I've had three hip replacements, all of which failed, and I now have to mobilize on crutches. All have been done in the private system, and it's cost me mega. It's left my wife and I peenless in our sixties.
If it matters to you, then you'll hear it here Sydney now with Clinton Maynard until see a.
Huge weekend in rugby league and Mark Guy has been covering it all.
Hello MG, Hello Clinton, good evening.
Yeah around fifteen mate, It's come to a close and the Rabbit O's have been decimated through injury.
Yeah.
Now, I watched the Rabbit O's play the Bulldogs yesterday and yeah they are suffering with injury.
Out day well.
Colem and Toney, probably their best player this year by a mile, has suffered a suspected fractured eye socket, with Lorie Daily forced to replace him in his Blue squad because he can't travel of course of the socket. Jacob Preston the Bulldogs duck Row will now be the nineteenth man. Also, Joe Gray, the young fullback he broke his some yesterday be up for two months. And the Hookahavilli has suffered
a calf injury. So more injuries for the rabbit as And while we're on injuries, big mainly forward hermoli Ilakwatu his face in the extended stint on the sidelines after discocating his shoulder and his sides lost to the Titans. But some good news for the big boy. He won't require reconstruction, just just set it and it'll be back in about six to eight weeks.
Some good news for the mainly team that is something. What about the football yesterday before half time the players having to go off with the lightning strikes.
You know, I've remembered anything like that in all my time. I've seen stuff on TV, but I've never been live at a game, and we were there yesterday calling the game, and about the thirty second minute mark, the ground manager went onto the field and ushered at the players off the course of the severity of the lightning strikes. And it was about twenty one minutes later that they got
back on the field. And it was funny because they had like a two minute warm up to get back on the field, and they had a reduced half time which was only seven minutes, and then they would have been really really difficult for the players to warm back up again and I think at that stage the Doggies were all cruising. I think that that break probably helped the rabbit os, but didn't help them win the game, because the Rabbits are languishing now. Mate, they've they've lost
three in a row. The Tigers are in thirteenth, they lost four in a row. And up up in front of the up front of the bus, the Doggies on twenty six Canberra, I've won four in a row and some great news for them, young what's his name? I forget his name now, pretty sure son, Yes, Jed Stewart will be making his taboo this week and that's fantastic news. Fantastic news.
He's been I think he's been eighteenth man. I think he was part of the squad that went to Vegas, but he hasn't made his deboot yet.
So look, there's quite a few father.
And son combinations in rugby league. You might be related to one of them. Is there do you think there is? Is there nepotism in league at the top level?
Oh jees, that's that's a that's a nasty word, isn't it if you it's look like I don't think so. I really don't because otherwise, you know, he's a lot of coaches having a lot of their relities playing for them, I think, But at the moment, I think, when you're losing games, the finger points straight to and I'm talking about the Dragons here with Kyle Flanigan and his dad Shane.
At the moment, well, he's on the fire because you know, there's been some ex players and some journalists saying that it's nepotism and that he wouldn't make any other clubs seventeen and all that type of stuff. But it happens when you're losing games, when you.
And you know, just in defense of Kyle Flanagan, now, as a Shark supporter, I saw a lot of Kyle Flanagan coming through lower grades. When he was coming through the lower grades, the likes of Andrew Jordans were predicting that he was going to be an absolute superstar. Now he's not a superstar, but he isn't quite an adequate first grade player. It just makes it difficult because his dad's a coach.
It does, it does.
It puts the pressure on both of them because they're losing games. And at the start of the year when I was going, well, no one was really saying much about this. Obviously, you know the prototype is Ivan and Nathan have won four comps to get but that's kind of one of the before that was Johnny Wang and Martinling who won two thousand and three. But I know that you know, brother Arthur Copp that when he's young, Blake was playing for him Jakie Arthur. So it's it's a nasty thing.
I mean, it really is.
It's it's you know, because I think at the end of the day, we love our kids death and when people are saying that we're favoring them in front of others because of their last name. I think that I coached my son's up until I was about fifteen years of age, and the reason I stopped plant coaching them was because of that reason that you know they started other parents were starting to get Jack and me being the coach, and so I said, you know what the best way to do this is walk away from it.
And I did because I didn't want to cop any more crap from from sideline eyes or sideline mouths now MG.
My favorite sport next to rugby league is motor racing. So I was up very early this morning watching this.
The front wings gone.
Norris is out of this race, and he said ineviatively mcclarens would come together.
At some points, and that points I've lap.
Sixty seven in Canada has arrived now.
And has that damaged Piastre's McLaren as well.
I think he went for a gap that wasn't there?
You all right?
Did? Yeah?
Sorry?
Oh my bad?
So what's happened there? This is actually for those that don't understand motorsport, I'll just explain that this is actually really good for Oscar Piastre because he's leading the World Championship and his teammate Lando Norris is his biggest competitor because they drive the same car, so they're in the best car at the right. So Lando has tried to overtake him. He's hit him from behind, hit his back wheel, and Lando went off and Piastre continues. So Piastre finished fourth.
He gets the points for fourth place. Lando misses out completely, which means that Piastre's lead in the World Championship is now much bigger. It's almost worth a race. It's actually a really good result for Piastre. It could have been could have been so much worse.
Though, oh, I did readly today with Lando Norris was full of remorse and went out of his way to apologize to his teammate and.
Blah blah blah.
But at the end of the day, their competitors, aren't they even though they're in the same team, they still.
Want in the white worst motor racing, they're the biggest competitors because they're driving the same machinery we're on the footy field. Did you ever have fallings out with your teammates that cause dramas on the field? Oh?
Look, I said it happened Clinton a lot of times. I never had personally. No, I would save it for the dressing sheds, or I would save it if someone done something on a footy field that he might have hogged the ball instead of passing it, and I wouldn't say. I wouldn't remonstrate with him there and there because I wouldn't want to embarrass him. I've seen when other players have blown up at their teammates, and it's not a
good look. At a team sport, no one really wants to do anything that's going to make your team lose. So you know, if you want to say something to one of your teammates. You've got plenty of opportunity in the dressing rooms after the game, and when you have it, maybe went back in my day when you're having a nice cold beer. If you won the game, you'd say, hey, Steve, next time, mate, That hog the ball.
Cheers don't do it on the field. I should point out that the Kiwi he's an adopted Australian Shane van Gisberg and won his first NASCAR race for the year in Mexico.
Fantastic, aw some news. He's a good riter.
He's a Kiwi, MG. But when kiwis win, what you have to understand is the restraints of course Australia exactly.
