¶ Swing That Gig
Welcome to Swing that Gig. I am Martin Lindeskog and this is now around one week that I've been around and this is the weekend. And you could think should I do it every day on Saturday and Sunday, also Saturday siesta or only on work days weekdays. But I don't be challenged to do it in 90 days. But I will try when to do it in five months and then already after a
week I missed one day. You could say there was plenty of things to do there on Friday with recording, for example, live streaming with Studio Fusion and some other activities going on during the day and in the evening. So I will do two today. So I will have sort of schedule again I will work on the American time. So sometimes it will be that I record in still the day, the recording in America, but it is a new day in Sweden and I will find the float. Probably it's best to do it in the morning,
my time and starting out fresh. And maybe I've been dreaming about it, thought about it, take some notes and so on. So now I will in a way ventilate in a positive way the tools that I'm using here in order to produce a podcast and in a way that could also be for a gig worker. What kind of tools do you have access to when you're doing your work and your gig gigs and tasks on distance.
And also as you could produce your own podcast in one online studio on your computer compared to going to a physical studio, record there and download it and then upload it, etc. So I'm using here, as I said, all the two and I put that in the show notes made with all the two recommended hashtag and. And it could be interesting to see the hashtag and see if could find other podcasters out there. And Oletu has a site, a page on people using this Oletu for recording.
Now I will take a sip of tea here, Assam with a splash of milk, whole milk you could say, from farmers here nearby. Cheers. So again I will have some time looking
¶ RSS 2.0 Podcasting features
at the clock. I will try to do it short and sweet. So Studio Fusion had here on Friday with Deborah Anderson and we talked about a tool that I include in the Shownos called Headroom and that's made in Estonia, in the Baltic state, states where and there you could do all kind of interesting things with show notes, with chapters, transcriptions, with AIF tool also. And it's a monthly subscription, about $10 or €10
per month. Again I will see if I could find it as a workflow and it's working on this is on Mac I think so I will look into that for this podcast. I want to do it every everything in the tool and giving constructive feedback and suggestions and wish list to all the two team. And again, I know that you can't get everything every bells and whistle in one place, but it's good to have several
of them in one place. It's good enough and I will also push them the folks at all too with this adding features to 2.0 podcasting 2.0 features. So starting out with stats it's pretty limited but it's good enough. You get an overview, you see where the listeners are from different devices. If it's on mobile or if it's on web browser. And you could see different stats where as I said so that it's all good. You don't need everything. And again that's also thing you could discuss and
discuss is it a download or is it time spent? And that's something that Sam Sati of truefence FM is talking about. And that will be the development I think. And one player here that I will come back to is Spotify. They have that kind of data because they control that in their app with streaming so they could see how many are listening and how long time and where if I skip and whatnot. So they have that data and that's also maybe why they have some issues with this RSS feed.
So again coming back to that and I talked about that at the studio Fusion live stream session. It's very important to protect and also enhance and develop and add things to the RSS really simple syndication because that's the heart brain, the motor in everything with podcasting that it will run in smooth way.
¶ Alitu: Show Settings & Auto generated text
So the next thing here is the show settings studio. When I now did that for this new podcast swing that gig I had to pick a studio and you could shift studio and change studio. But now every podcast episodes that I produce for other podcasts also getting the same artwork. So I wonder if it's some settings there that I could add new shows or list or because I have this one as the hosting that ones I'm editing and doing the post production and then upload on other
podcast hosting companies like Captivate. So that's something to think about and ask all to the transcription feature. I liked it when I had it for Captivate and uploaded and when it was certain file it was like you could have a text file but also this other file SRT I think.
And it worked fine with Captivate but here on Ola 2 it's the transcription feed where creating generating and you could also follow along when you are doing the editing is in a good way but it's also that you can't edit it and that's something if you don't get the transcript right regarding a name and so on that could be a bit annoying. You could say for example my name Lindeskog. Sometimes it didn't get the whole every
letters in my last name. But that's okay As a side note there when I haven't listened and used podcasters the app on Apple Apple podcasts the purple one when you see with almost like a person on an eye and this like exclamation point you could say or a head there with the body and the RSS symbol in a way any type of that I saw now that they have automatic transcript transcription that they generate in by themselves and it was like almost like a lyrics test text scrolling on
the screen. And I thought it was very accurate. But that's not the transcript that you use for hosting services and so on. So it's override that. So if you want to have your own when you have to do some settings there also. But I thought it was very accurate and it was nice to see when it was during when you listened to the episode. So yeah something to look into more on how they had developed. And a side note also again another side note I talked about that why this
now? And it has I think with vex accessibility thing and have been in place for websites and others. And now you could be sued here in Sweden due to these European bureaucrats and the rules that have been in place for some years now. So the small business owners website E Commerce they have to get that in order otherwise they could be sued by different ad hoc or pressure groups regarding accessibility. So I think market should decide there and come up with it.
But it's good that we have this feature I think so the chapters I haven't because I haven't found the workflow with it. But I like that you could now add that in all too. And this pretty short now I already babbled for 10 minutes but it pretty short episodes then maybe it will not be so many chapters. And then I wonder how could you add an image that you can. How do you upload that and how will that work so it doesn't break the RSS feed. Now I
¶ Copyright and Claiming ownership of my podcast
have to take another sip of tea here so that also do I'll ask and the URL for the episode is automatically generated and there it's with this long thread of letters and yeah numbers and whatnot. And that in other hosting you pick the URL name. Of course sometimes with the Swedish letters at the end of the Alphabet. O, A that's not in English, so that you can't see that anymore. Then often it's a hyphen instead or some other text. So but otherwise you could change that. So for
the subject, the title of the episode. So that's easier to read. But it's similar to the. I think the hosting company Red Circle that had a free so called hosting option in the past and then it was generating automatically episode. So with this long URL. So maybe it's something with that. I wonder how is it with podhome FM that I have for my podcast Pluck the day if they have a long string of letters also for the episode. But it's more what you are used to. But I like that you could create
or pick the URL in a way. In some way. But thanks to the title or subject you have for the episode. And then you have this AI generating show notes, summary texts and so on. And I like it. But I will ask you as a listener, do you when you read it, is it my style? Is it my voice that you read here so to speak. And it's how you play with words until. But I like it because it saves time and you could edit
it and you could do it. But it's also good enough and it could be good for to searchability be found and maybe also the listener think oh, that kind of description is intriguing. You get this attention, interest, desire, action to listen to it. So I am in a way divided by the that. But I like what AI could do in this way. And then the last thing here in a way is claiming ownership of my podcast. And this
has to be to do with truefence fm. When you have got the podcast included thanks to podcast index in other places you could then claim your podcast so you could do the gamification, you could get a wallet, you could get satoshis like donations streaming or sending booster grammes or super comments that I call it on truefence fm. But then it has to do with that you have confirmed it on an email that you have in your RSS feed
that you when you sign up. And that was all good back in the day when it was included in Apple Podcast Connect when it was included but then it was scrapping and services that used these RSS and finding the email and spamming the owners of a podcast. Then it was a pressure to remove that or hide it, but that led to problems with when you're claiming your podcast. So it's a big back and forth here. And now I did one click to put it on Apple Podcast Connect to be found there.
So this podcast is now available on Apple Podcasts and still I'm an Apple fanboy but the critical one still the main I think still 40, 50, sometimes 60% in our market. Spotify claims sometimes other things. And here in Sweden it's very popular with Spotify. I will come back to it. But overall because the iPhone on iPhone, the default podcaster application is is Apple Podcast. Now they have improved it a bit as I said with transcript
and other things, but sometimes all the time. It has not been the best podcast application in my mind my view. But they have developed over time here. But on Android on the dark side, so to speak with robots you have to find your own podcast application. And now you have Both podcasts in 2.0 New Modern podcast podcast applications that you could find. But also it had been hard back in the day. It was stitchy that was pretty decent and good, but now it's
gone. Is it who bought that? Is it that Pandora or how did that end up? So it's. You don't have that default options. You have to search for it yourself in a way that's good but it's to do it also. So now I got this from the support there on Altu that I have claimed it and got this code on Apple and wait some days and I wonder
if that's the case or if it's something. Yeah, I would go back and forth and so I could claim my podcast here on apple and on TrueFans FM so I could get gamification going in the wallet and whatnot. Now yeah, it will be a pretty long episode anyway, so I'm babbling here. But the show distribution is one feature
¶ PODCAST: Should I have my Podcast available on Spotify?
also and there it was with Spotify. And I have never really had an account on Spotify because I've used free Spotify with ads because I'm an Apple fanboy and I listen to music on Apple Music, not Spotify. So I haven't got it going there and I wonder should I have it available on Spotify? I know you listener out there, maybe you like it, especially in Sweden. But have you asked yourself how much do the guys and girls on Spotify and the management there pay to the artists?
If you are not a famous celebrity and big artist, how much do you earn on Spotify with the streaming That's a question to think about and I will come back that as an new advisor for one of advisor of the value each other that has this talking about
this topic and this issue. So I wonder should I go further and try to get it on Spotify or do you have to search it on other places for my podcast pluck the day I've done that decision that I it's not available on Apple podcast on Spotify either or on Google Now I don't have any podcast anymore but so the big players there so you have to use a new modern podcast
application. So I did a thing about it. But as a new media advisor I would advise you if you start a podcast together with me or by yourself or my by my suggestions and help and advice pieces of advice. You should be where the listener listener is and where you could reach your audience. So it's good to be on wherever
you could find your podcast. So and even YouTube could be something for searchability but that's another thing that we will talk about so called video podcasts or youtubers other options there also Pandora I don't know if that's outside North America. And then iheartradio they have a history of this radio station and doing some things with podcasting that you could have some arguments and thoughts about. So should I be there also and D series and music service
I wonder how is that for podcasting. So that's something to come back with. So I think that was for now and again I see the time is flying and I will do another episode here in a bit for this day for the holiday Saturday siesta. So with that I say cheerio bye for now and talk soon again.
