¶ Swing That Gig
Welcome to Swing that Gig. I am Martin Lindesko and today I will do a little bit of catch up during the week in here. As I said, doing it every day. And yesterday it was hectic in different ways, so. And then I took a nap, power nap. And then I listened my favourite thing on Fridays listen To the Podcasting 2.0 podcast live stream until in a way it becomes a audio episode published on the feed process feed. You could listen live thanks
to the lit. The lit live item tag feature of this new podcasting 2.0 features. So with a new modern podcast application you could listen live and you could also interact live by streaming satoshis like bits of bitcoin as a donation and also sending booster grammes like a digital telegram and sending a note and sending a appreciation with amount of satoshis. And then you could do it in different symbolic way. For example, one of my favourite amount is 1776, the birth year of United
States of America. And around now for your reference, around 100 Satoshi souls. You shall say it right now. So 100 satoshis is round. You see one one crown. Yes. So thousand is like 10 crowns. So 10 Swedish crowns. So if you have thousand then it's around 1 US dollar. So here is around 2 US dollars. So that's. We don't now with not so many fees and directly going directly to the receiver and then they
could making splits to that. I will talk about that specific regarding podcasting 2.0 podcast because they have so many splits. It's people working, you could say and doing this freelancing, gigging voluntarily work for the podcast and then they get a split the cut of incoming streams and the satoshis and the booster grammes and they're on now I think it's over 10 different splits added to the splits, different users and people into this podcast in 2.0 space.
So it is something technical there with they have changed the format of how to do this money transactions that if you do it in real time or if a you could say the compile them or doing it in bulk and how that's working. So it's something that I have to look into more in future. So that was a long introduction, but it will come in another episode here. So starting
¶ How to get paid as a podcast host
a new position will probably be the title. And when you pick that on LinkedIn it is now it's that this podcast is a new position, but in a way it's not a real job, it's a interest, it's a hobby. But it's also Striving to become work, a job, an income in different ways. I am realistic. And as a new media advisor, I know the challenges of podcasting to get paid because plenty of listeners and consumers, they take it for granted that
it's free. But as said before, there ain't no such thing as a free lunch compared to like an audiobook. Do you pay for it or do you listen to it for free? And it's lots of things going into a podcast, but then you have to ask with this podcast in 2.0, ask for giving back. So it could be in time, but you're spreading the good word and you are helping out with marketing. Podcast or doing like transcript or show notes or chapters or whatnot, testing something that is working and
then it's the talent then. And that could be the same thing then doing different services and then the treasure is to sending donations support in different ways. It could be by PayPal, it could be Stripe, it could be Buy me a coffee in my case, buy me a tea and also Vidvis now booster grammes and satoshis, streaming satoshis and super comment, as they say on truefence fm. So it will be simple to explain, but it is a money transaction
and it's a value for value. If you value this content, how would you give back then? And you could do it then give a tip to a friend, spreading a good word, helping out with marketing, maybe doing a part of the production or workflow and then sending a small donation. And this could be applicable to musicians and music artists and the music industry that
control and own their own content. So this will come in the future and I think they will get it in a way because there you have many musicians, how to get that next gig, the concert, a road tour and then the streaming on big platforms. How much do they get really for that? And how could you find alternative and extra income streams in different ways? So with this new position then it is not a real position. You could say it is a work thing
that I'm doing, but that could lead to a job. So one big example, successful example is the diary of the CEO Stephen Bartlett. But in a way kicked off with challenge 90 day challenge. But I will have for five months doing a podcast episode every day or in this case I will do two free during the weekend here. So he started out from scratch. Of course he had some investments, had some maybe investors and some equipment. We had focused directly on video production.
So it's, it's different kind of production type compared to the, you could say the indie podcasters. But still it started out pretty small I think and then it's growing. So now he is probably have staff of maybe 20 or 50 or something like that. And it's a very successful podcast in terms of listening and in I think sponsorship and in ad revenue and other things like that. And I will come back to some others that have been around for a long time and how they work and how they get money.
And as I as I said to some of my clients, to be realistic, if you're not on the top tier and it's only like a couple of percent that have like these downloads that you could discuss that number if it's time spent or if it's download notification when you have a new episode. Maybe if you have like 5,000 downloads per episode, depending on the length of a podcast, how often you publish, then you could get
so called regular ads. But nobody in a way are interested in listening to ads if it, if they're not relevant. So a host, sponsored host read could be something if it's relevant to the show, to the podcast and the content. So I will come back to that also in, in the future. So again
¶ Starting a new position on LinkedIn
this was a bit rambling but I have now starting a new position on LinkedIn and I got like I see in the comment threads like over 20 comments and I replying also it's more than 50 reactions from people and over. So thank you very much for that in my network on LinkedIn. Thank you for congratulations and best wishes and so on and have comment and reply to some where
to find this podcast. So it's@gig.allitude.com and then wherever you find your podcast and the podcast application not Spotify so far and I will do a specific episode about that. Should I be on Spotify or not? What do you say? And could you guess why I'm thinking of it? And then around 500 impressions and what that mean is that it had been seen in the stream on my contacts that I have on LinkedIn.
So that's positive. So how could I get this and develop this podcast over time to a gig, to the next gig, to work, so on. So I think this could lead to one thing, could lead to another and that's why I'm starting this podcast and also because it's good for my development and for the job search and to getting that next gig, talking about an area that I'm interested in, has some experience out and with and knowledge and some thoughts. So spreading the better ideas when it
comes to new media business philosophy. And the good life, including tea. And with that said, I will take a sip of tea here now. Cheers. And yeah, with that I say I will prepare for the next episode with the theme on LinkedIn. So thanks again for congratulations and for comments and spreading the good word. And I look forward to having your thoughts about this. And I will include in the show notes the link to that post about
starting a new position. And yeah, so something if I come up with some other things related, but I have some more things here on LinkedIn that I want to talk about, like series. It will be a series over time here. So thanks again and bye for now and cheerio.
