It's not a about it's not a blank superhero sla It's a weekly podcast where we' talk about everything that's great Like a TV superheroes It's superheroes yeah Hello everyone and welcome to superhero Slate the show where we run down the latest superhero entertainment news. We love TV movies and superheroes so let's talk it all out.
My name is Chris and my name is Mike and this week we're going through a curated list of 2025 movie and TV releases Mike and I say this because there's a lot of movies that would not go on the show normally so we're just going to go through what would we'd probably watch if we had timeically qualifies as curation. I like to imagine. You know, when someone's like curating something, you know, they're like mindfully like pulling together a bunch of things on like a table.
Maybe they're like setting pieces for like a wedding or something, really curating the decorations and Chris is copying and pasting a list and deleting a few things. I dumped all those Ms into a bowl and I'm only picking out the blue ones is essentially what it felt like so um we're going to go through that. Jason Momoa finally cast his loo. uh I feel like we get a lot of fan casting and maybe like one percent come true and I feel like this is like maybe that one percent come to life again.
Yes because because Jane's gun does what he wants because he he pretty much owns all that. uh Also, the DCU gives us our first batese in creature commandos this week, which has lit the Internet up in a few ways, so we'll talk about that in the show and more. Yes. Chris, you're getting lit up in a different way. uh I happen to okay uh long story
but not a long story. uh they they passed the law out here in Los Angeles like a year ago and it just starts to go into effect uh this year where you can actually get a ticket for it where every crosswalk you're not going to be able to park on the street within 20 feet of it. It's supposed to be improving uh visibility at all intersections and it's supposed to lower the the chance of like uh hit and runs and mortalities and stuff like 14 percent or something like that, right?
So, um that kind of goes into effect this year, but I hardly knew about it except for like one random TikTok that came across my uh, like for you page that told me like, oh, it's going into effectction. I was like, oh my God, I didn't even know. And like they're not even doing a lot of work to like repaint curbs very quickly. So like you could like be parking in like a non-red curb and still get a ticket. It's crazy.
But I was looking in the comments on the TikTok page and someone's just like, wow, like like I didn't know about this and someone's like, oh, it's been on the news like all year. And I read that comment and I realized I never watch the news, especially local news. I get all of my information from the Internet like a tri millennial and yes, and I'm sure Jen Z does as well. So like I don't even like I'm a cord cutter. I don't even know how to get the local news for Los Angeles out here on my TV.
I'm sure there's some like random like app I can put on my Roku that I'll like get it to me for free where I don't have to sign in or something, but like I'm not going to track that down, but long story short is I just don't engage with like the news and that also includes the weather channel unless something gets big enough to where it pops up as a clip on my YouTube suggestions.
So last night uh we're like scrolling through YouTube looking for like a couple short things to watch before we go to bed. And I see there's like a little clip from like, I think like a local news station out of like Kansas or something where they're talking about like this snowstorm that's coming through and I was like, hey, wait a minute, Chris mentioned something about this a couple days ago. He was like, we're going to record early.
And everyone everyone's like, oh, it's just a little snowris. What do you what what could possibly be the concern about a little snowike? But what did you find out about the snowstorm? Well, I sent a picture because they show like, you know the banding, right? The the colored like loops that show you like what's going to be what amount of ice or snow and there's like this thin strip right in the middle that's like the worst of it.
And I sent a picture and like this little thin strip, like basically is like touching like Louisville and like some aspects of it. So I just like sent it to Chris I was like, oh, you were you were right for sure. You uh we' need to record early before you're covered in ice and lose power and it works out well for me because um the baby gets us up early so recording for me early now is like, that's not a problem. This isn't even early Chris. I've been home for hours.
I noticed because you I sent uh was it a video of my arcade machine last night like real late uh and you were like you like liked it or had eyeballs on it this morning or something. I'm like, oh, he's up early today. He's doing stuff. Yeah, but Chris, you're out here uh surviving and I I I was kind of I'm a little a little nostalgic for you. Now it's easy for me to be because I'm I'm out here safe on the west coast.
It's like warm and sunny and I don't have to worry about being being covered in ice, but I was talking with my wife this morning about like, oh, remember when we lived in the Midwest and like a storm would come through, it would be all over the news so it would kind of like unite the whole community that you're in. You're all talking about the same thing. You get to cancel all your plans and kind of like hunker down and like just play video games and stuff.
But then there's always that little nag and in the back of your head like, but what if we lose power and or Internet, that all of the fun I had planned goes out the window it's true. I mean that's that's the thing I've um put on my my wife has been on as a teacher. she's on on I guess a winter break. And I was like, hey, while I'm working if you get a chance to go out and buy things that we don't have to cook because I'm preparing for the worst and hoping for the best.
But yeah, right now we're about five, five and a half. Maybe six inches since Mike started talking of snow. I showed him a live feed. It's just coming down like it's no nobody's business here. But last week we lost power and Internet, we still maintained a show, Mike, so I feel confident that even with the worst cases of the scenarios, uh superheroes like will continue to record the rest of the day because that's how we do it.
And this is and this is very uh, I feel typical for the Midwest if somebody's never lived there or they're not super familiar with it. It's like you hope for all of this magical snow during the holidays and then the holidays come and go with maybe not much or like a little bit. And then finally in January, when all the celebration's over and you're like ready to like get your life back on order, you know, and start back to work or getting stuff done.
That's when all the annoying snow and ice comes you don't really want it. It's great because you know, we don't get any real good holidays off until what, um May? So, you know, hopefully you get a snow day every once in a while to celebrate an extra little holiday here around the house.
But I I work from home so I don't I don't get that luxury anymore, but oh well, but outside all of your snow and ice, uh if I was better at um transitioning to into other topics, I would say another cold maker I've purchased, this is already bad. I ordered this little mini fridge that looks like a CocaCola vending machine and I'm so excited at's supposed to come this week, I guess barring any weather. I'm looking at the the order page right now.
It says, um uh shipping expected in the next business day. I get I'm scrolled I never should have followed sideshow collectibles on Instagram. I knew it was going to be a bad idea when I did it a couple months ago, but I just love looking at their statuettes. To your point, you actually purchase something that is functional, not just this is something that put on your shelf. Honestly, I think that might be part of it, too, because sio collectibles and or hot toys.
I don't really know what their affiliation or ownership structure is or if they're even affiliated it anyway beyond just selling things, but they they sell the coolest stuff. Like sometimes their mequettes and their toys and their statues are so realistic. I can't find high quality enough images for our thumbnails for the podcast. And sometimes I'll just take sideshow collectibles and remove the background and like, oh, because they look so real.
So something I was not I was not expecting to see in my social feed was they are selling this Coca-Cola classic vending machine. and I saw they put together a little video of it and it's like a fully functioning little mini vending machine in a way where they come with little tiny coat cans and uh you like hit the little button on the side and then the little coke can pops out from the bottom.
Like that's cool enough as it is right there because this is like a vintage, like, I want to say like maybe late 80s, um Coca-Cola vending machine. So it has the old co logo on it. It has like, Chris, you were just talking about uh you putting coins in your vending machine. I don't know if this comes with many coins or not, but it's one of those where you put the coins in on the side and you have like the big white button next to like your cola option on the right.
It's you it's the ones you would see at Wal uh it might still have them at Walart because like they have like the little one by two inch rectangles with the whatever can you're buying so that they could swap out whatever they put the cans in. Yeah, it's great. And it's so cool and it was just so neat and I was like, oh, this would be really cool to have on my desk.
And then the most magical thing happened where the front of it opens up and on the inside, you can put two full sized actual Kansas soda in there and it's a mini fridge. So I was like, yes, 100 times, yes. So I hit the join the weightless button right away and then a couple days later, it gave me the option to purchase it. I'm like so stoked. I'm going to put this on my desk.
I'm going to have like diet C coes in there ready to go or Chris and I are on the lookout for a lot of new sodas this year so I just love the idea of just having like almost like a little emergency drinks in there and I I'm kind of staying in the dark about this a little bit. I was so excited when I saw the video. I don't even think I finished it.
I think once the woman in the video opened up the fridge and revealed two cans, I just immediately followed the link and so I I so badly want to click on the listing page so I can look through the photos, but I'm like, I already bought it. If I just wait, it'll be a super fun on boxing because I don't really know all the ins and outs and little bits of it because when Sideshow collectibles sell something, it is like of the highest quality.
So I am kind of hoping I even have the option to maybe like slap out the little paper rectangles next to the button. I don't know if they'll give me that option, but cool if I could I mean, they should I mean they have other Coke products, right? It' Coke on the outside, but diet Coke Coke zero maybe even, you know, they make sprite, right? They make sprite.
So like I wouldn't be surprised that or or if they sell like a little update package, you know, how they like sometimes the statues will have different heads are like accessories you can get as well, though.
I want to get I don't know how but I want to get like the the 90s like cherry Coke label brand the perfect I loved it so uh this is my um plea to you to make sure you're subscribed because I'm hoping it shows up this week and I'll be able to like hang out with it play with it then talk about it on the show next week hopefully. So I mean I I excited you know there's a lot of reels I've seen lately about um you know, uh mythic uh garage fridge pools or grandma fridge pools, right?
So I just imagine you like keeping like getting one of these limited uh, you know, Dr. Pepper blackberries and just leaving it in there all year and then like come like next December, you're like, look what I got. Like someone's like, oh, I missed those and you open up your little fridge. You' like look what I got right here and some legendary fridge bows here. I' I'm jealous. I absolutely love it. um which is fantastic. Mike Mike got to see my ninies a little nostalgia.
I brought home a entertainment center made out of pure oak this week, so the orangest oak you've ever seen in your life, right? And it's got all my it's got my TVs on it uh or like two of the tube TVs, my Atari. It's been great. It's it kind of gives it that homey feel. So I' I'm but I' I'm more jealous of Mikeoke machine really at the end of the day, so do that. Well, it's 2025, Mike, we have been doing the show for 10 years as of this episode. I don't know if you do that or not.
We didn't really have a way to promote it, but it's so ceremonial. My uh my my daughter just turned six months old today, so maybe we can start doing that thing that those like driverless car engineers did a long time ago where like, oh, when my baby starts crawling, I need this autonomous car to move at crawling speed and so on and so forth. So I don't know what that means in the form of like a human baby but she starts crawling.
Are we supposed to like, I don't know, um get our first like Spotify deal or something? I mean, I'd be okay with that.
I take any deal at this point, we can look at you know we can use us as as a range for her, you know where where where she's at we can do updates where we're at but like ten years uh doesn't feel like it feels like a blink of an eye really if it was going to be honest to me it perpetually just feels like we' been doing the show for like five years like no matter what, even when we were doing a show for two years,
it felt like five years. five and a half years ago we were at Comic together, which, you know, felt like we were still, you know, have five years on the show. But it's great. I just wanted to give a shout to everyone who's listened along the way people who've joined and stuck with us over maybe not the full 10 years, but you know, I do appreciate it. And you know, I know Mike does as well. We have a good time.
So we're going to we're going to keep on keeping on every time they keep announcing more movies farther and farther out. We keep renewing the show. So that's what we're going to be doing. But I want to go into 2025 looking at a release calendar. because to me, it's important to kind of give you guys a heads up of what's coming because a lot of people don't know. I mean, if I went to ask, we always do Mike's mom test. Mike Mike's mom, what is coming out movie wise this year?
She'd have no idea, right? She wouldn't tell me. So I want to use that as a baseline like, what do what movies do people know regular people know we were coming out this year? So we're going to go through the list of things. I thought we would find interesting or at least we'll briefly touch on throughout the show this year. that sound good to you? Yeah, it sounds great. First up, nothing in January that we're February 14, a mere five weeks away Captain America
brave New World Mike. uh very excited to get this out of here. It's been delayed forever. It's been reot It's been reteaked. um went from the Chic era to the Aiger era of Marvel. And I want to see what they've done, how it plays into it. Obviously we've got Harrison Ford' red Hulk, Tim Blake Nelson returning as the leader from the Incredible Hulk days. excited to see what kind of what they're holding back and hiding from us along the way when it comes out uh next month.
Yeah, really really solidifying even more that Valentine's release used to not be the home for big movies, but now they've they've recaptured the holiday.
Yeah, and I think one of the the other the other movie that we're not going to talk about it's going up against this, which, you know, shows me it's going to be a pretty pretty good weekend as Paddington three Paddington and Peru Mike so uh valine's Day is going to be great um Moving on uh the following month we've got two movies we might talk about in past I'm more curious about these than like in the show number one April fourth is Minecraft and April
18th is Mickey 17. um so Minecraft I just have curiosity more than anything about this movie Mike. I'm not a Minecraft player. I've never delved into it. I'm very familiar with the the concept, but I've never doubt into it, but I want to see what they pulled out for this movie, right? Jack Black Jason Momoa. Obviously, we all love Jack Black, but I would this is going to be so mean. I want to see him in a good movie at some point in the near future. I love that he's getting these huge paychecks.
He's hilarious. He's still doing tenacious D, which is great because it's not like he's not doing great work outside of the camera. But man, like I wasn't a huge fan of the Mario movie. We couldn't even finish his Santa Claus Satan movie that came out like on Paramount Plus uh last year. I feel like probably not going to like this movie. He's got anaconda coming out with Paul Rudd. That actually might be cool. I'm like one of the few people out there that like binged and anaconda as a child.
I I feel I't I can't fall. He's trying everything right now. He's trying everything. um but I uh this is completely offering after watching him in the Minecraft trailer, I'm worried about his health. I'm like maybe he should, you know, he he's kind of ballooning up and I'm like, buddy, you're getting up there in age. Maybe you need to to work on your health a little bit more than be in Minecraft a movie.
Soither here nor there, but I'm like, yeah, I like to I like to see more Jack Black for the foreseeable future, right? So I have no idea what this movie is going to be like. It could be fine. Obviously, we're not the audience for this. we're not Minecraft people, so we'll see what that comes. Mickey 17 is interesting.
It's it's based on the book was it Mickey Seven and uh this is about a a guy who finds like he's been cloned to go do dangerous missions and and after his clone dies, another one comes to life very much like the movie Moon from from years ago. Also, um, what's the Tom Cruise movie that was kind of like that? Wasn't he a clone in that as well?
No, the one where he has like a bunch there's a bunch of versions of him and they're all in charge of kind of monitoring different portions of this like planet.
It's like the white futuristic motorbikes or least I don't remember what it was called it was cool I like that movie though yeah um so but one of the clones Mickey 17 ends up not dying uh and then they bring another clone back to life so they're going to deal with that uh directed by um Bong Jun Ho I think it's his first movie since parasite, right um so yeah, parasite was his last movie so this was first movie since parasite so very exc excited to see what this one's about, really.
I'm excited to see what he brings to the table with this. And uh Robert P Patson, obviously, um he he is he's a great actor and has has finally shed I feel the Twilight days behind him as he as he goes and does some better stuff. He is he's Batman. What was it movie tenet? I really liked him in tenet. He's great in that, you know, this stuff, so we'll see in April. It may to kick off the summer with some action movies. We get thunderbolts from Marvel.
I'm biased obviously because it's got centry in it, but uh we've got thunderbolt so another Marvel movie kicking off the summer. later that month is Mission Impossible the final reckoning. And I've enjoyed the Mission Impossible movies. I it's not something I have to go back and rewatch or necessarily watch in theaters, but I feel, you know, they're just they're just reminiscent of classic action movies and they they hold up over time, right?
I don't feel like they're not very gimmicky as they're always like a yeah, they're like a consistent like B minus for me, which is still good but I feel like I've never been like, well, this is crazy. But I I have a good time. It's spectacle, which is fun.
Yeah, it's like I don't remember a lot of them or they all blend together, but like, you know, Tom Cruise can can put together a pretty good action uh film with some political espionage and uh this I mean this this is like his only franchise he still got going. uh so uh but after the last one kind of ended on a cliffhanger because I didn't see how that wraps up.
In June, we kick off with uh John Wick uh spinoff ballerina, which is set between John Wick, I think two and three or three and four, I think between two and three, starting Anna De Aris um excited to kind of dive back into the John Wick world a little bit. Ken Reeves will make an appearance as we saw on the trailer. And then later that month is 20 years later, the sequel to 28 days later and 20 weeks later and finally coming back to the franchise.
And for people who don't know, this is a part one, 28 years later, part two, the bone Temple, I think, is like coming out pretty much like within less than a year after, because they already filmed it. So they they've got some full faith in the the zombie franchise might come to him back. July, I think, will be one of the biggest dollar box office dollar months that we're going to see in 2025. I'm looking at it right now. Well, yeah.
I haven't quite seen all of it all kind of organized into like one month on a list before. That this is pretty crazy. Yeah, so start off the month Jurassic world rebirth, uh whether you like the Jurassic world movies or not, they are consistently box office performers. This one little Scarlett Johansen and kind of set a new, I guess trilogy or set of movies going forward. A little over a week later is Superman on July 11th from James Gunn officially kicking off the DCU.
The trailer over over the holidays really brought up a lot of hype, so people now have that on the radar. And then ending July uh July 25th It is fantastic for Marvels. The MCU's attempt at fantastic Four, bringing a solid cast, the retrofuturistic 1960s, uh galactus silver surfer. We we've got a lot to look forward to with this month, Mike. Yeah, also big uh franchise movies in the sense of they'll be setting up kind of like the next couple of years of both universes.
I mean, Superman's kicking the whole thing off. So, uh I don't know if the end of the movie is going to kind of set up something or if there's going to be some crazy post-credit scenes, uh coming out of Superman, but definitely establishing our world there. And then fantastic four, you know, we're supposed to be kind of finally, I think, be getting into like this multiversal kind of secret war, you know, Dr. Doom is rumored to be in this one as well.
So it's the last I think it's the last one before Doomsday or there's might be one in in February the next year, but like they are uh yeah, this this will be a nice little um comma, will you like in the sentence before doomsday, I guess, maybe? But uh it's also supposed to be our first good fantastic four movie, Mike. That's what we're hoping for, right? We need a good one, finally, after all this time. But uh all three, I think will be box opera performers.
uh we're we're excited to I'm excited for July. And then at the end of the month as always Comic-on, Mike, so we're going to get even more news for the future. uh kind of feeding out of those. We up a couple months and I October, we haveron Aries uh coming out of uh the sequel toon legacy and um coming in with Jared Leto. I hate it. It feels bad. uh but I like I like the trial world I like the futuristic the the scenes that we saw leaked from uh D23.
It looked awesome so we got Aries and obviously Night Shales do the soundtrack off that one. And then and the end of October is Moral Combat two. Finally the the sequel to the Max movie, Moral Combat come into theaters this time, uh due to the success of the first one. So I'm excited for mortal Comment because you know what? You don't have to do with mortal Comat movies, Mike? You don't have to think. You just got to watch them about them..
That is going to be the only thing I will I will say right now if they do not actually have a mortal combat tournament, I'm out they did the first one without the mortal combat tournament. They were building the one, so they need to do it in the second one. So let's let's cross our fingers. They they do it and bring some good stuff in there. November, we get into the predator Badlands, which is a sequel um uh in the franchise to pray, which was came out in Hulu. uh a couple of years ago.
uh surprise hit, uh love pray great movie, great return to the predator franchise, so this is coming out in November seventh and uh later in the month of November 21st is the running man, which I don't know if you ever watched the running man from the late 80s, Mike, uh with Arnold Schwarzenegger, where he's in like the that's like a weird kind of gap in my Schwarzenegger film franchise. Okay. Well, I highly recommend the running Man from87, I think it was.
Essentially they kidnapped bottle Schwarzenegger, put him in this game kind of like uh it's like a video game. People are watching them and he has to survive till the end, uh kind of thing and it's uh uh, you know, one of those 80s future kind of things, kind of like uh everything's dystopian. So it's it's really fun to recommend that. So we have a reboot coming at the end of November.
And then into December, we have five nights at Freddy's two, and I put that in here more out of curiososity simply because I didn't think that first one would ever get a sequel, Mike, but apparently enough people, a fans of the franchise loved it, wash it. They're putting a second one out there. And and who's the company that does that that franchise? They're the Blumhousehouse. putting it in December is bold because two weeks later is avatar fire and ash Mike.
So they're hoping to get that five nights of Freddie's first weekend because as soon as the avatar comes out December 19th, it's game over for the rest of them through January. we were putting away Christmas decorations uh yesterday, so uh I want to just kind of throw something up on the TV so I put up uh the way of water.
It's the first time that I had watched it outside of the iMac screen that I had seen it on all those years ago felt like came out and I was like, man, I freaking love these movies. They're so cool. I always forget and underestimate how cool the earth tech is. and I just love how effort effortlessly it's introduced into the story, right?
And there's like this big upgrade from the first movie to like the second movie of all this like new tech, these like new robots that these marines and scientists are just using. And I always feel bad being excited for it because like, oh, they're using it to like poach whales and steal their like brain jelly. But like, damn, do I not look at those like submarines and go, oh, that'd be such a cool Lego set. Like I can go out and murder my own Lego whales with it.
um so I'm I'm I'm down for this one looking forward to fire down and and that the they actually use the the boat as like a whole set piece at the end right like like it is the set piece for the final action scene of the movie uh out of so out of this whole list Chris what what is like your most and single most anticipated and maybe single most like dark horsey like if if somehow you had to bet money on it and you wanted like the biggest return because nobody's expecting it
I personally it's as thunderbolts. I'm I again I said I'm biased I'm selfish. I know my favorite comic book character will be in there so I'm biased towards that I will give fantastic for another runup because I love the retrofuturistic vibes. uh the dark horse here is going to be probably predator Badlands. I'm going to say a lot of people probably don't know there's a predator movie coming out and um
drop it in November is going to be pretty pretty good for that. um so I'm I'm going to put that.
How about you what what's your what's your two takes yeah this is going this is going to sound weird as like a dark horse uh but it just feels like since the franchise is kind of like limping right now, I feel like Jurassic world rebirth is my dark horse in a way where uh we're we're going to get like that first trailer that's going to come out and I feel like people are either going to be like, oh, the franchise is dead.
This is so stupid or the trailer is just going to knock everyone's socks off and then the dark horse will be the lead horse right after the first trailer. I feel like you can never discount dinosaurs, because even when they make bad movies out of them, they still make money. I don't get it. We and we have a you know it it's going to almost every one of these movies is going to have a Super Bowl trailer. I'll tell you that right now.
I can already tell you the first avatar trailer will be Super Bowl even Captain America, which is less than a week after the movie will have a Super Bowl trailer. But I believe that Jurassic world reverse trailer will be a talk of the Super bowls well. I agree with you.
Yeah. And if I had to pick my most anticipated, it's it's probably split between fantastic four and avatar fantastic four because obviously I' got to be hype for something MC related and then the other half of just like, I like avatar because I just like being in a different franchise. I looked it up. I wanted to know how far Pandora was from because now I'm getting into the lore.
It's like four light years in some change and people think that humanity we haven't gotten to light speed travel yet, but they're like, oh, if you get to like half light speed travel, that makes the 20-year round trip that they mentioned the movies make sense. So like now I'm in it. I'm ready for it. I can't wait to go back to earth and uh see what happens. Well, the exciting part about this is the fire ash. They're they're introducing a fire tribe more I guess non-good they're
they're supposed to be more horror, more more visceral. um and they they they were delayed this a year, right? They actually gave it an extra year to to polish it up. So uh very excited to kind of see what that looks like as well. anyone who' listening, also listening this one movies you're looking forward to. And now we're going to go to the TV series. There's a lot of TV series coming out next here. I look this up, but uh we're just of the ones that are relevant to the show.
For MCU, we have daredevil, Ironhart, Wonder. Also, these are live action. I'm not putting the animated ones in here because those are more adjacent. except for Invincible. I put invincible in here. I feel that's big enough and so low enough. DCU has peacemaker season two, Mike, uh give me of Invincible on Amazon, the last of us on Max and alien Earth on Hulu later this year as well. Is the um is the fifth season of the boys coming out 2025? I don't know. I didn't see that pop up at all.
uh I'm going to look it up here. I know they're filming it right now. uh because it's supposed to be the last season. Well, it it was filming started filming on November 25th. uh so it yeah it seems like maybe it'll come down to uh maybe what quarter Amazon prime video wants to have their cers come back. Well it's it's a filming goes to mid-2025, so they will probably release it 2026 then forabbits in effects. So not not not this year.
But overall, you know, I think the last of us is what, February season two is coming up pretty pretty soon. Alien earth. I'm interested to see Noah Holly from, you know, legion, uh, you know, bringing what his alien take is uh to the alien franchise after you know coveant was this year. So we've got some interesting, interesting shows, less to talk about here, but uh for those interested, those are those are popping up uh and we'll talk about them as they they kind of kind of do.
Moving on Supergirl news, Mike. This will be the this will be the postcredit scene Superman right here. You mentioned postcredit scene earlier. I want to say Supergirl will be the postcredit scene because that is the second DCU movie filming. And with that, we have our official confirmation that Jason Momoa is cast as lobo in the film, and he has teased this uh his first, I guess big post aquaman role in a franchise, uh ever since the lost kingdom, I think was still in theaters, right?
He's been like, yeah, we know DC is the EU's ending, the DC is coming he's like I just talked to James Gunn. I'm excited and uh he wants to be a littlebo so he got it Mike. Good for him right along the way. Yeah, this is uh this feels kind of like the uh the Benedict Cumberbatch casting. You're talking about fan casting at the beginning of the show. Yeah, he aesthetically, uh he aesthetically fits. He's the least amount of makeup needed for for
a person. whenever I see Jason Mull, I just think of him like woo hooing. Like I feel like that's that's his go-to to woooo. So I feel like aobo woo hooing works for me. He's he's every every person is going to be like my man and point out him. space motorcycle is going to be great. Exactly. So the reports are he will film for a few weeks, not the whole time, so he's probably not the main villain, but bigger than a cameo.
So he'll probably be in maybe a third of the movie, uh, is what the kind of window is looking for there. And then for people who don't know, this is not the first live action. He was a live action character and I think in season three of Krypton that was on sci-fi before this.ryp we always forget about you. I mean, sci-fi didn't do them any justice. I don't even know where we could watch that show right now if you wanted to.
but if you want to your homework on that, you could Lobo is essentially a big space bounty hunter, if you will. Like imagine dog the bounty hunter, but if he was an alien and he might be he might be. He might be an alien. I don't know yet. but um so kind of fits a role. I just thought of this, Mike. He's the villain in fast tin and fast 11. Is fast ten two coming out this year? I nope, 2026. It's 2026 they got another year.
I was like man, that would be another big money maker, I guess in the box office, but 2026. uh moving on in the DC realm uh can we talked about this last week? Clayace is officially been picked up by DCU to be the third movie in the DCU and they are currently looking for a director and it might start shooting literally the end of January this month or the beginning of February since the script is already done, right?
James Gundy said he won't greet anything until the scriptpt's done. uh so he's got a hire a director and then he's got a film the script and go along with that. The speculation mounting is that Andyachete could direct this uh and introduce his version of the dark night in it if he wanted to before the he does the brave and the bold. uh we reported last week that the Brave and the bold was, you know, delayed postponed, whatever, and he was going to do another movie.
He could literally just pick up in film clayace. He's good for horror, right? He did the the it movies. This is like a body horror film. I think it could be a good good little thing for him if he wanted to, Mike, what do you think? Yeah, I can't remember if we I know we talked about the speculation of like this just super just rumor of all rumors that maybe there waiting to see how the Superman movie does to determine whether Matt Re's Batman universe becomes the de facto universe or not.
So I wouldn't be surprised if that rumor is true, that clay face would kind of be caught up in that as well, right? Because he's iconic Batman villain. so it's like, oh, well, let's wait and see how Superman does to see which way this clay face pivots because you don't want to tease the wrong Batman, right? But I mean, we have a we have another Batman tease to to talk about as well.
So maybe they'd use the same strategy of just use the most generic looking silhouette of a Batman and then it could be anybody at any time. It's funny you mention that because literally what we're about, they already have clay face and creature commandos, not even in a silhouette. He was actually a character. So I don't even know if that clay face will be this clayace, right? Like I assume it's DC, you know, we're assuming it as DCU.
We assume it might be, you know, there's multiple clay faces, but like if we do get it and I think well, I think it's should still just be body horror face and like try not to connect it maybe to the larger universe, right? Some of those standones work pretty well um in that regard. So so maybe they could. But I think Andyheney would be fine.
I don't hold the flash against him. uh, you know, many people would be uh, you know, forgiven for remembering the flash as even a movie because I haven't thought about it since I left the theater. uh Have you? I mean that movie was so marred by the controversy around Ezra Miller. I everyone hated that movie, but I didn't hate it. I mean it didn't stick around like as said didn't have any stickiness in my brain, but like I thought it was directed fine. No it's it's it's it's a competent movie.
It went through what, six directors and seven release dates before it came out right? So he was just the last person on he's the bottom one on the totem pole who's like yeah, I'll take the job. and and I'll get it done. So I don't think it's bad. I agree I don't think it's bad. I think it's just doesn't land. It's just not that good. uh but it's not like the worst thing. I watch Mad Web. Mike, I paid to watch Madam Web. So I've seen worse movies within a year of that.
So um, but Andy, I think he's a fine director. I think he does good stuff and it would be a good jobper Clayace. If anyone else has any horror directors they'd like to see do Clayace, let us know. Maybe they take Lee Winnell, who's doing the Wolfman movie that's coming out this month, uh he can do it as well.
but Creature Comandos, let's talk about creature commandos because I'm I'm caught up, Mike There's one episode left and this last week was the uh the uh backstory of Dr. Phosphorus voiced by Alan Tudic and then also given the likeness of Alan Tudic uh when his his human form. And um at some point, he essentially gets uh he's becomes like a big crime boss. He's killing people and it looks like he is uh captured and taken in by Batman. We don't see that happen.
We just see him look look at the skylight, the lightning flashes. we see a Batman silhouette and that is that is the Batman we get, Mike. You got you got to pull out a lot of this one second, one frame thing that doesn't even move. So, um and that's what and that's exactly what I did. I pulled up the one frame, zoomed in, enhanced, tried to find the most high resolution version that I could find. And even then it was just this is just the most generic Batman ever.
And I'm sure that was the just the strategic choice. They had a whole meeting about what this Batman was supposed to look like and they were like, uh we think maybe our Batman's going to kind of be maybe beefier, you know, then because I wouldn't say this would be a um a uh uh a Matt Reeves Batman. seems to be a bit dicker. Yeah, so so James Jones has even gotten to say like he's like I disapproved a bunch of Batman designs because we didn't want to give too many commit to too many details.
And when you look at this, like literally, Mike, it's what, black and blue. That's the only two colors you get out of this guy. um The cape behind him and his belt make him look like he's got a beer belly. Like he looks like it looks like if you got um uh Brandon Gleason in a Batman suit and said, stand up here while we take your silhouette? It's what it looks like, but that's just the bat like that's just the lighting and the coloring, right?
If you take off the bat, the his utility belt, which is one, that's a good thing, and the cape behind his um, you know, left arm there, he's probably just a a muscular dude standing up there. And there's I can't draw anything out of this other than hey, Batman took down a very, very dangerous villain somehow because Dr. Phosphorus has shown to literally melts his hand through people's faces embodies several times, stop bullets. So, um it means he's really good at, you know, fighting villains.
Is that what we' we're getting at here along the way? And then I just want to call this is not the first time we've seen Batman in the show people. uh you use your titles for your clickbates. I don't give a shit. But in an earlier episodes, when Circe's giving visions to Amanda Waller of the future, we actually get to see a version of Batman impaled on a spike uh when all the heroes have been killed around him. And guess what?
It's black and red Batman this time and just as nondescript as the other ones. So um I think, you know, Mike, if you don't show your daughter any Batman content for the next three years and at three years old, you ask her, hey, who is this character and show a picture of Batman? She'd probably know who it was. Like I feel like silhouette is just so iconic they would know. That's a good experiment.
We'll switch over from the mom test to the to the toddler test to being like, what pop culture has like seeped into your brain just from me taking you to daycare? Yeah. exactly. But you know, creature Green has got one episode left. I will say I I'm going to go ahead and give it another another ding against it, Mike, uh how every episode is a flashback for everyone's origin story in this team. but how many tragic villains can we have in a in a show, uh, right?
Like literally everyone's got a tragic backstory and we should feel bad for them, except for Frankenstein, um, I guess he's just he's just evil. I sometimes. it's hard to tell what their motives are in the show. Yeah, like I don't hate I don't particularly hate, you know, the storytelling device of using uh flashbacks, but I don't like it when a TV show's like kind of formula becomes predictable, right?
It's like, okay, so each week we're flashing back because I'm not saying it's not a good way to get to know the characters, but it does get to a point where it's just like, okay, I'm kind of counting down. okay, there's how many people on the team there's how many episodes left, okay. Once we get this last person done, I can finally have a full episode that has no flashbacks in it, you know. So um, I guess leaves room for a lot more to do in season two.
I guess could be a highlight to look forward to we're done telling the stories of all of them, but I still like we have one episode left. We don't know anything about Nina, the fish girl very much. We haven't got Rick Flag's backstory either. um, you know, there there's a lot going on they're going to have to finish up in this last episode. Again, I'm still watching it. I don't hate it, but like, you know, it's a it's a passive watch for me right now until Hey, that's an improvement.
When we first talked about it, after the first couple episodes aired, uh, you were much more negative on the show. So I guess it's grown on you a little. No, no, I feel the same, but uh, you know, it's just one of those things. I'm like I don't want to hear the band Gorgal Bordello one more goddamn time in the show literally every episode is it's it was formula, right as you said, is this formulaic every episode.
I'm like come on, maybe the ending going to give me something really surprising and really cool and and we'll we'll go down that road so we'll see. But um anyway, if you want to get your first several teases of Batman in the DCU characters, take a look at the show. They've got them in in droves. Moving on, the uh the Punisher, uh Mike, this is a rumor, there's a new leaker on the scene, a new new uh scooper, if you will. and uh they've been pretty successful
so far. uh and one of the newest ones they've come out with is that the Punisher series in it works at Marvel television. This doesn't mean screenit or will happen. but it will follow the plane is the daredevil format where it will be a season three for the previous two seasons that were on Netflix, uh spitting out of the daredevil show because he's going to uh John Burthal's returning his punisher in the show as well.
Hey, I remember I remember a conversation I had with with a friend who is not in the kind of uh Marvel cinematic universe bubble and just he just organically watched the Punisher show on Netflix nothing else didn't watch anything else doesn't keep up with the movies or any of the other Netflix shows just really liked the Punisher show on its own so it definitely has an audience for another season.
yeah and it's it's hard for us to remember that you know we we need to uh think of how how the common people are, right Mike uh what what are they doing within themselves? The people with lives? yeah yeah like we're only watching things we want to watch instead of having to watch everything. I'm like yeah, I get that. I appreciate that.
uh But the other thing they mentioned uh on in terms of uh scooping that this uh the show daredeil could lead to Jessica Jones season four, uh based on that success of daredeil daredeil the success when it drops in April, um they could, you know, spin off more of these uh Netflix characters uh or street levelvel heroes into their own shows, bring them back. uh Des Jones would be interesting for a season four as well, I think.
But again, I the all these characters work better when they're together for at least a little bit, right? Like Punisher and daredevil work great. Jessica Jones by yourself, we could try to bring in uh Luke Cage. I would definitely love not to have Iron fists in there, but like they need to have some interaction, right? I think that's when they are really successful along the way.
um but we'll keep you guys posted if this uh comes to fruition and we get those green lights from uh Marvel television, which I would say maybe what, SDCC New York Comic Con, one of those two later this year will probably have a better better view on that. Mike, our first popcorn bucket of the year has arrived with the brave new world bucket and I looked at it and I was like, ah, I know where this would go on our ranking immediately.
Like from last week I did I was like, oh, it's the rubric that we let's flex the rubric that we made any first okay first of all anyED any electronics on this popcornetED all L a plastic mold as well because it's split down the middle. Yes, not the coolest looking mold I've ever seen, but obviously the thing that we're not talking about is that this is a head with a hole. It's a helmet. you lift the helmet up, you have the popcorn in it.
It's got some C-th through plastic in the front, very reminiscent of the ape man uh head popcorn bucket, uh from a couple of years ago and all the other ones. So it would be down in the uh, uh, what, uh C tier I think it is Cter um for for the last one so. Now, one thing that could give this bonus points and I don't know if this person is holding like a rough mold or cast of it. It's like a workshop like it looks like a thing.
and then with the flap open, maybe this theory doesn't work, but if the scene was down the middle, if the helmet was able to come apart and relatch on your head, so it would kind of be something that you could wear, now we're kind of in a different category. We're getting a little bit more original with it. Maybe we could bump it up a tear, but it doesn't it doesn't feel like that's what it is.
Yeah, I think if it had the lights on the on the eyes, I would probably put at the top of the C tier, you know, maybe bottom of the B tier. or, you know, something to do with like it's got the little air hose because obviously the the falcon slashatch will be flying in the upper at atmospheres and faster speeds so they need the the oxygen tube.
If they did something with that rather than just plastic, yeah, but um it it's pretty much just, you know, put it on your shelf with someone's head and fill it with popcorn if you want to. I'm I'm not real in love with it, but it is our first one of the year, so hopefully we get to see some more ones come out um through this.
Also, uh Japan has revealed uh, I believe it's pronounced a toso cup that you can get, uh where it is essentially a uh it looks like a bowl shape, a cup that you would eat or drink out of in Japan uh in the shape of Captain America shield, which I thought, uh, hey, points for that. That's a pretty fun way to use the shield over there.
I thought it would have been kind of cool because, you know, one of the early kind of uh promotional image we saw was like red hulks like fists kind of like crunching the shield a little bit.
I thought it would be kind of cool like if like if it was like the red haulk's hand crunching the shield into the shape of a bowl, you know, kind of you when you see those people do those like things where you take an old record and you kind of melt it over a bowl and it kind of has like that wavy pattern and like that's kind of been cool.
of my favorite ones I have akist I believe is from Thor Ragnar that you know, is a popcorn but like what if you had the hul you put your hand and it was a cup holder and then the shield was your popcorn bowl like together like as like oh, here's your drink holder, here's your's your popcorn thing. So there's a lot of opportunities here, but it feels messed out, but Japan, using the shield for different things, love it.
Lastly in the Captain America Brave in the World, if you're into some merch that you're probably going to buy at Walmart or Target, maybe even cold, we've got some designs for the leader. That's the sickest, most direct burn for this stuff I'm looking at right now. and and and everyone's going to understand as soon as they see it too. They like yeah, I get it. uh But we've got the leader played by Tim Blake Nelson,
our first look at him in prom and Fred Holk. um he looks like the leader in the comic books, right? Just maybe not like the head is tall and he's got a little more hair, but like I'm like that matches up uh looks to be prosthetic based as well. We've heard that before, right rather than CGI and in the Red Hulk. So if you're into red and green these Christmas colors, they just missed it. Should have done it last month, but uh you can take your look at that those clothes here, Mike.
It wasn't as clear until I kind of saw this gallery of images of just like, was this supposed to be a Hulk movie that they just weren't allowed to make so they turned it into a Captain America movie because that's what it feels like. I'm just looking at Hulk. I think I think it's like if again if you emerge a Captain American movie and Hulk movie together because it's got the political part of a Captain American movie and um well in eternals too, because of the hand sticking out of the ocean.
So it's it's kind of a a catchall, if you will, to kind of wrap up some loose threads and maybe set some new ones going forward. I wonder if they're going to put she Hulk in there after because of all the hulks they have supposedly going in this movie or any other hulk like, are we going to get like nerd haulk at all?
is supposed sun or anything yeah it could be and it could be um but um yeah you can check that out in here so we get the leader and and red Hulk both uh hulk blood powered people uh Speaking of clothes another merch uh first drop of fantastic Four first sets merch This is something I feel like I'd find at the Disney parks or Disney store uh out the gate and it is the banners from San Die Diego Comicon put together in a shirt uh with each silhouette of the human torch, uh Reed Richard Soostorm
Ben Grim and it says heroes, scientists explorers, protectors. I love this shirt, Mike. This is this is just a great design. I love the artwork, the print. Wantastic shirt because I should but um it looks like to me it looks like the back of the shirt so now I'm really curious what's on the front of it. Is it just going to be like a nice little kind of like monogram like logo on the chest? I think that'd be cool. Yeah yeah I mean just the four thin like line type for the four as well, right?
Like it's it's not extravag more of a triangle um but I love the the idea of heroes, scientists, explorers, protectors like, you know, the tagline and what it does. So I'm excited to get some fantastic for merch. I don't think I've ever had any fantastic for clothing of all my Marvel attire ever. So looking looking for to add that and there. Moving on. Avengers dooms they we know it's 2025. They're going to be filming.
They're going to start shooting this m March through August in the UK uh for Vindors doomsday, the first of vinders movie coming out next May. Now I will put it out here these production uh weeklies or production monthlyies, whatever they're called. They could include subroduction units, not just the full cast the full-time, right? Like a getting the close-ups, you know, filming the static shots, the everything else, not just, oh, we have all the actors here doing all the stuff.
But I expect to around March to April, we're going to start seeing more and more leaked photos or like who's in London and stuff like that to kind of build up this list of people who are going to be in these Avengers movies, both doomsday and Secretars.
And then lastly we got a shot an image, uh I guess it's from the website of the uh production monthly, I guess, or what it is, um showing uh a Avengers Doomsday, uh the casts that are expected to be in here, including obviously Robert D Jr.,ed Pasalvinus Kirby, just Quinn, Evan Moss, Tom Holland, Elizabeth Olson, Sebastian Stan Florence Pew, White, Russell, David Harbor, Hannah John Can, Olga Curinko, Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie, Benedict Cumberbash
Haley Atwell, and then at the end, it says Anna de Armis is mentioned for a role. So I don't know what that means or why it's in parentheses at the end of this. But like, you know, this is posted 12 12. so like obviously it is kind of along the way. will it be, you know, is this true? Do they just send a list of potential actors? I don't know, Mike, but I'm excited to to uh to kind of start this filming production as we get closer to it, right?
Yeah, this is the Vendors doomday is like the the the busiest rumor mill out there right now. People clocking in uh 24 hour shifts on this one. So you can make anything up with the Avengers doomsday because it's all it's all theoretically possible. This this is secret wars. You could yeah, literally any any character who has been in this along the way could be in here. um but knowing this is doomsday, this is probably prepping for secret wars.
So I think secret wars will probably have more of the uh the variance, right? The the return of Hugh Jackman, the you know, the Toby Maguire, the other thing. So this will be the setup for the payoff in secret wars, but um Aris is as a cast and I was like, I don't even know who she'd be in this movie at the end of the day. I was sitting in the thing on my would she be a variant of the character we already know, maybe possibly a a mutant for another universe? I don't know.
There is in the comic books, a character called uh a character's called Black Swans, and the black swans are essentially the heralds of uh doom as he's like trying to save the multiviverse. So she could be possibly a black swan, like someone who's like, I work for doom and, you know, I'm here to to prepare your world for either being destroyed or being merged with ours, one of the two whatever theyide to do with in this for secret wars. So I could see that.
That'd be interesting. uh Moving on, uh last bit of news here for the day Star wars. Mike we haven't had Star wars. I've actually been watching skeleton crew. We've been doing it in two episode batches, highly recommended to two episode batches. I feel like they're paired together really well, having a good time, uh just not connected to any other Star Wars. Really, really good journey, uh recommend it.
But Sean Levy, uh, who has been tied to one of the many rumored er announced Star Wars movies, whatever there are at this point, is apparently reportedly moving fast. and he quoted literally after Deadpool Mulverine came out last year, and yes, there's a Star Wars movie that I'm developing actually with our Adam Project screenwriter Jonathan Tropper. You never know what's going to become undeniable and get made next.
And the rumor tied to this moving very fast is that they've offered the lead role to a well-known A-list actor who is not Ray, what's her name? Daisy Daisy Ridley? Like this is a non-Ray movie at the end of the day. You're going to say uh not Ryan Reynolds because when I think Sean Levy, I just automatically think Ryan Reynolds. And I don't know how I feel a hundred percent about Sean Levy.
It's kind of almost like how I feel about junk food in a way of like I really like junk food, but I can go down like the snack aisle and like pull a bag of chips that I'll hate, but also pull a bag of chips that I really like and pull a bag of chips like, oh, I like a couple of these, but I'm not going to finish it, right? So, like free guy was a bag of chips that I didn't really want to finish. but uh wolverine and Deadpool really good.
Some solid uh uh sour cream and cheddar ruffles right there. So he's really good at making like like popcorn movies and I liked the Adam project and I was I was shocked that it was just sequestered to Netflix when I watched it. But I feel like I can't like I can't guarantee I'm going to love one of those movies, but kind of like when we were talking about um James Gunn last week and the the rumored quality of the Superman movie.
James Gunn, he's always going to make like a a predictable level of quality. I feel like Sean Levy is there as well, but sometimes you're just hoping like, oh, but am I going to get a swing for the fences just not knock out hit here? I don't know. Well, I will say, you know, he is dived into as a director a lot of comedies. I don't know the writer other than the Adam Project. He did again, Sean Leight at the museum trilogy. He also did real steel. Adam Project, I think is is pretty good.
I agree with you. It's it's fairly good. I'm pulling up the writer right now. What was his name? Jonathan Tropper I'm trying to see what he did. He has done irreplaceable no, he'serodach chrome the movie, uh, a comedy drama. uh this is where I leave you. I never watched that. Did you ever watch that one? Yeah, me either. uh and let's see writer uh some other stuff. So um I I think anyone, a writer and a director can do anything if they're, you know, got a play in place and can do it.
I think if the other recent three movies, Free Guy Adam Project, Deadpool Wolverine and they're doing the writer from Adam Project. I feel that's more Star Wars even what he even has a lighter in it, doesn't he? Brian? Oh yeah, that's right. Yeah, there is a light sab. So I feel that's fine. Again, they're not going to say Star Wars has the whether it's a curse or a great ability I don'tre not green lighting movies that they don't want to make right now, right? They haven't any movie.
They haven't moved any movies recently in the past several years. So if they're not green lighting this, it's not to the point they want to release it. So at least we're not like getting a Star Wars movie every year just to put out Star Wars movies, right? So maybe they can come to it. Maybe they can get there. I think, you know, I'm always going to look back to uh whether you like it or not the guy who directed Joker
or the Joker movies. um can't think of his name, but he did uh the uh hangover movies first, right? Comedy movies. And then he did the serious uh Joker movie, uh, and even the the malign Joker too, which I would say probably the worst movie last year. uh even though it's it's a different tone, it's not the hangover again. So I think directors can pick different genres and be successful. So maybe we'll see them pull some, you know, sci-fi out of this along the way.
Mike, that's the episode this week, I am going to see if I can go make a snow angel uh out there after this, uh go dive into it. I've been given Mike hourly updates and I haven't looked at it since we started recording. It's less so, so now we're waiting for the ice part to come in and cover that let me keep that snow under that ice for a little bit, but we we're getting snow. We got through the show.
