Episode description

New South Wales is implementing a new anti-bullying framework that replaces zero-tolerance suspension and expulsion policies with prevention-focused strategies. The framework requires schools to prioritise wellbeing counselling, explicitly teach emotional regulation to students around age 10 when bullying peaks, and provide personalised safety plans for bullied students. Under the new guidelines, schools must action bullying complaints within two days and will only use punishment as a last resort after all other interventions have been attempted.
