Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announces that Dr Kevin Rudd AC will conclude his posting as Australia's Ambassador to the United States at the end of March 2026 to become global president of the Asia Society think tank. The announcement also confirms Thursday 22nd January as the National Day of Mourning for victims of the Bondi Chabad community attack, with flags to be flown at half-mast across Commonwealth buildings. Albanese acknowledges ongoing emergencies in Victoria and North Queensland, thanking volunteers and emergency services responding to bushfires and floods.
