Episode description
Australia's prison re-offending rate has reached approximately 50%, with half of all released inmates returning to prison within two years. The national inmate population has hit an eight-year high while prison costs have surged to $7.3 billion, as governments continue building more facilities. Many prisoners are released back into the same circumstances of poverty, housing insecurity, mental health challenges and addiction that led to their initial incarceration, with one in three women released without secure housing.
