Good morning and a warm welcome to your show, Sunny Mornings in Encinitas. I'm your host, Melissa, and it's Wednesday, July 2nd. You'll be interested to know. 61 years ago today, in 1964, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act into law, a landmark piece of legislation that outlawed discrimination based on race, color,

religion, sex, or national origin. This pivotal act marked a significant victory for the American Civil Rights Movement, ending segregation in public places and banning employment discrimination. It stands as a testament to the nation's commitment to equality and justice for all its citizens. So now you know. And now, it's time for the Surf Report. Wednesday in Encinitas and North County. It's looking fair this morning with knee to thigh

high sets rolling in. Weights hold around two to three feet throughout the morning, providing decent conditions. However, expect the winds to remain onshore at four mile per hour, creating some bumps as the day progresses. This afternoon, the swell builds, bringing occasional sets up to chest high. Best time to ride is at 6 a .m. with a 2 -foot outgoing mid -tide when the south -southwest swell is 1 .5 feet at 13 seconds and

the onshore wind is 4 mile per hour. The first low tide Wednesday will be 1 .5 foot just before 9 a .m. with a 4 .5 foot high tide at 4 .15. The nearshore buoy at Beacons reads 66 degrees for the water temperature. Thursday through Saturday features consistent clean conditions with waves ranging from stomach to shoulder high. Morning sessions are ideal with light winds under 5 mph, while afternoons transition to fair with slight bumpiness. Saturday holds the potential for better

conditions again in the morning. Overall, expect manageable surf with occasional funsets, particularly during the early hours. This morning, it's mostly cloudy and it feels like 66 degrees with 8 mile per hour wind. The sunset will take place at 8 .04 and it will rise again tomorrow at 5 .45. Ahead of the sequel to St. Elmo's Fire, Rob Lowe reflects on his favorite moment from the original film, calling it one of the most 1980s experiences. Lowe, who portrayed Billy Hicks in the iconic Coming of Age movie, highlighted the memorable scene of playing the saxophone in a bar, which he fondly embraces as a quintessential part of the era.
